I wanted an AB switch that would allow me to choose between sending my guitar through one set of effects pedals, or sending it through a "Sonicport/iPad" set of effects. The guitar goes into the input of the AB switch, then A goes to my effects pedals and into the front of the amp, and B goes to the Sonicport and then to the return side of the effects loop of the same amp. I can switch between my conventional pedals and the Sonicport with just one switch (A or B). While I am running through the Sonicport, I can select and deselect pedals on the other channel, and while I am running through the pedals, I can likewise scroll through the effects on my iPad and select a new sound. This way, I am always connected and playing, even while rearranging pedals or the effect selection on the Sonicport. The switch is transparent with no hiss, additional sound, or loss of signal. Does't even need a power source (9v) to work (that only powers the LED indicators). Also has the option of A&B, which I'm not using, but does work (I've tried it). Can of course do all sorts of other switching combos. I may try using two separate amps, rather than the front and effects return of the same amp. The switch is reversible, too. For instance, you could run two guitars into the A and B jacks (can either be used as inputs or outputs), and use the center jack as the output to go to an amp, so you can switch instruments without changing cords. I've seen other AB switches at higher prices, but this switch gets the job done with no apparent drawbacks for a lot less cash. I would highly recommend if you have a need for this type of switch. Needed to be able to switch between 2 instruments going into the same pedal board/amp. This does that, but there are some problems. 1. Significant reduction in tone quality! 2. Slight volume difference between channel A and channel B 3. Slight volume drop on both channels compared to bypassing the pedal 4. Doesn't fully mute either channel. 5. If both channels A and B are selected, both suffer an unusable reduction in volume and tone quality. On the positive side, the construction quality is good. Some reviews say this pedal is noisy, some reviews say it's great. I figured I'd try my luck, spend the 50 bucks and I'm SO glad I did! I was pretty mad when I first plugged in and got a bunch of noise, but after an hour of trying different configurations I learned that it was actually a bad cable causing the noise. After swapping cables, all is well. No noise whatsoever, not even when switching channels. If you're having a noise issue, make SURE it's the pedal causing it and not something else! As for the "tone killer" comments, I can't really speak to those. I'm running both channels to the same amp and I love the sound I'm getting.

As a long-time fan of Boss/Roland brand products, I purchased two Boss AB-2 two-way selector devices. I wanted the added convenience of routing my guitar input signal to a variety of Boss effects pedals (including Boss GT-100, Boss SY-300, Boss RC-50, Boss ME-6B) while allowing alternative signal paths to different amps and/or PA mixer. I’m not a professional musician, just a novice with a simple home recording studio as a hobby. I like the simplicity and ease of use of the AB-2 routers, and the quality that I expect from Boss.

I think it's fantastic that for 50 bucks you can get a signal splitter. I saw techniques online for creating beefier tones by splitting your signal to real amps and digital effects as well. It would be annoying to route a computer signal into an amp, and then back into the computer, so this defeats that method.

Discovered that when we have an active guitar plugged into A and a passive guitar plugged into B, A's volume knob controlled B's output. As long as A was turned up, B could control its volume with its volume knob, but when A's volume knob was turned down, B's volume went down with it. Literally, A turning itself down could totally mute B. This really isn't a problem as long as you know that. If you want total, independent control, you might want to look for a buffered ABY solution. We also tried it running a Fender Strat guitar into the Y, and the AB outputs were run into a dual input tube preamp that had a Fender input and a Marshall input. Running the AB outputs of the switch into each of the amp's inputs allowed us to very quickly compare the difference between the two inputs and it was very noticeable. One input was very clean and the other had a little distortion added. We got the fattest, richest sound running both inputs simultaneously.schwagerjt

Very well built and quality ABY. However, I fell for the the audiophile hype thst s non buffered ABY doesnt change youre tone. Thats true, but it also cuts the volume on the second output. I retuned it for a switchbone v2 and coulnt be happier. I debated the twin city, but went for the switchbone for the additional boost functions and am glad I did. I was looking for an ABY switch pedal in order for me to play Rocksmith through my Spark amp so that I would be able to hear my guitar without turning the song down in the game. I was considering another brand but then came across the Big Shot and decided on it mainly due to the price being about $50 less than the other brand. After utilizing simple A/B boxes for my amp and effects chain switching. I had far too much noise and I needed a better solution. The Radial Bigshot is perfect. This ABY amp switcher does the job I wanted it to do, and it does it better than I expected it would. The phase switch is exactly what I needed to get a Fender Tweed Blues Jr and a Vox AC15 to be in phase with each other. That was a pretty good instant gratification in one flick. The switching between amps (and switching to both amps) occurs instantly and without any trace of sound. The ground lift was needed to get my Blues Jr to stop humming whenever the Vox and Fender were both attached to stereo delay pedal outputs… or the Twin City with the lift switch unlifted. Didn't seem to matter which output the Fender was attached to, it was the one to hum… either using stereo pedal outputs or the Twin City outputs. But the Twin City's switch fixed that problem. The drag feature is useful. It actually does what it says it does. I have mine about 60% up. The Radial Twin cities Tonebone is an awesome switcher which does not zap tone and works super silent. It is active and it's buffered so it cleans up everything in your chain be it long guitar cords or noisy pedals. I hear a lot of people saying they like passive switchers because they don't need power. Well I can tell you from experience that passive switchers suck…they suck tone and they are noisy. This pedal works like a dream and has all the essentials needed in a top notch switcher for a decent price. 180 switch so your amps are always in phase. I researched many cheaper models of ABY switches, but the features of this device just seemed to outweigh any cons over price. With a groundlift switch and phase/polarity settings (including Drag control), it handles any combination of amps you throw at it and immediately dials out the noise. The signal and tone of my guitar is as clean running through two amps at once as it is from just one. Product is built like a tank and can withstand lots of abuse. Only con I see is that it does not have a battery option, but I won't deduct anything from it for that as this box works like a champ. Got it for practicing with two different bass guitars running off one amp. Discovered that when we have an active guitar plugged into A and a passive guitar plugged into B, A's volume knob controlled B's output. As long as A was turned up, B could control its volume with its volume knob, but when A's volume knob was turned down, B's volume went down with it. Literally, A turning itself down could totally mute B. This really isn't a problem as long as you know that. If you want total, independent control, you might want to look for a buffered ABY solution. We also tried it running a Fender Strat guitar into the Y, and the AB outputs were run into a dual input tube preamp that had a Fender input and a Marshall input. Running the AB outputs of the switch into each of the amp's inputs allowed us to very quickly compare the difference between the two inputs and it was very noticeable. One input was very clean and the other had a little distortion added. We got the fattest, richest sound running both inputs simultaneously.schwagerjt
Pedal works perfectly however the base is warped so won't sit on a flat surface. Mine goes on a carpet so not an issue. Might not work on a pedal board. There are no problems with the sound and very flexible ins and outs. The addition of gain on each input is invaluable as I'm mixing magnetic and piezo pickups.Reviewed by Andertons Music Co.

Very well built and quality ABY. However, I fell for the the audiophile hype thst s non buffered ABY doesnt change youre tone. Thats true, but it also cuts the volume on the second output. I retuned it for a switchbone v2 and coulnt be happier. I debated the twin city, but went for the switchbone for the additional boost functions and am glad I did. Radial makes a great sturdy durable product, so if you truely need a powerless situation, this will work. Otw, go with the powered buffered pedalsCbouty
I was looking for an ABY switch pedal in order for me to play Rocksmith through my Spark amp so that I would be able to hear my guitar without turning the song down in the game. I was considering another brand but then came across the Big Shot and decided on it mainly due to the price being about $50 less than the other brand. The Big Shot also features a ground lift switch that the other brand didn't have, this features reduces the amount of feed back received when having both A&B amps on. Hooked the pedal to my Spark, PS4 and guitar and everything worked just as hoped it would. I've had this for about 3 weeks now and glad I chose the Big Shot by Radial.Andrew
After utilizing simple A/B boxes for my amp and effects chain switching. I had far too much noise and I needed a better solution. The Radial Bigshot is perfect. It fixed my amp polarity issues and I can't hear a change in the signal. Plus, with the LED's it's super easy to see my signal path on a dark stage. Completely happy, no brainer buy again solution.

Great unit that is silent! No sounds at all when switching channels. It allows we to take my guitar signal and route to two different amps or the DI for the house PA – or any combination thereof. Someone mentioned that when routing to two sources, the output lowers by 50%. No for me. Levels did not change at all. I play mandolin, acoustic guitars and electric guitars for each show and I use this to route to either a Roland JC-120, Fender Bluesman or the house PA.memporados
It switches on/off any combination of three inputs to one output, OR routes one input to any combination of three outputs. It works with or without batteries– which are solely for the LEDs. Plugging a cord into the single in/out jack enables power (LED function). It is a little large, but that is necessary for stability and ease of foot access to the three switches. There is a 9v power in (for LED) and a 9v battery compartment with a click-in plastic cover. It is mono in and mono out. The actual jacks are TRS, but the additional R (ring) isn't used for anything. I wish they would have made the unit capable of switching balanced or stereo signals. The design is right. The build-quality seems very good.stubbsonic

I bought this pedal for use on a Keyboard & a Synth. I use my Korg SP-300 to control my Korg X50 Synth, and both have their own output (so that I can combine the sounds when I want to, or play them separately via my stage piano & this switch). One annoying problem I have found with this and other switches like it is that when you try to use the "BOTH" mode, it significantly reduces the signal strength of both inputs. For those of you guitar players who use it simply as an "A or B switch", you will never encounter this problem… But if you try to blend 2 inputs, you will lose volume in both, and you will send a sound/mixer technician crazy trying to re-adjust you during a gig… If this is your intention, you should probably get 2 of the AB-2 2-way switches.A OR B = GREAT PRODUCTA AND B TOGETHER = NO-GOElmoMich
I use this playing live on stage and when recording. No signal loss except in the BOTH configuration, but that's physics. They *could* add pre-amp circuits that would kick in. And that would just make it more expensive. So, you anticipate it and compensate further down the signal path. I like the silent foot switches and the silent optical switching. This thing is built pretty solid. I've had various liquids spilled on it and had it stepped on and thrown around. Had equipment fall on it and it still works really well. I've done over 45 shows with it and used it for an equal amount of practices and still doing fine with the 1st 9v battery I put in. It is completely noiseless when switching. And it doesnt affect the sound what so ever. I only put a 4.0 on value because it seems a little spendy for what it does. But I'd buy it again no questions asked. The 2 problems I noticed which is my own fault is that the buttons are a little close together when rocking out and jumping around on stage and you need to do an on the fly switch from amps. (my own fault though) and 2nd issue is that if its not bolted down to your pedal board it gets pulled along with the cables fairly easy and will move around on stage.TSMF / OC

I bought this because I wanted to switch between a Friedman Dirty Shirley and another Friedman Head I don't have yet (saving up) but i do have an Orange amp to get things going and to try the new switcher. Connecting was simple, programming it was a breeze, it looks great and I loved the led lights, big and bright. Everything is now working plus the tuner out, the problem is there is a hum depending on where I'm standing, even in the best position there is a hum. I now tried completely isolating the power supply from my tuner, no change. I don't have any other pedals. The next problem is there is a popping sound when switching amps, I tried all the hum reducing features but they were already in the best position, without the ground loop or phase thing the hum is about five times louder, so those hum reducers work but there is still humming going on. The popping made me a little scared so I turned down the gain and volume very very low to not hurt my brand new 4×12 Friedman bottom. All the cables are brand new Mogami gold cables, but I just touched one of the cable ends on the switcher side and it crackled, I started to move it more and the cracking sound was loud. I disconnected the switcher to test all the cables straight into the amp and total silence, not to mention I can dime the Dirty Shirley with barely a hiss, It's the most silent amp I've ever heard. That being said after hooking everything back up it was one of the output jacks again that was crackling loudly. So between the popping, humming and hissing, and crackling on one of the outputs made me return this. There is no way I'm using a switcher that can not only damage my speakers with the popping (I can only imagine what would have happened if my amp was loud) but hums like crazy depending on where you're standing. I got this after reading many good reviews and it looks like they make quality stuff, I'm sure I just got a defective one, I did however lose confidence with the Lehle Dual SGos.Moe

Bought this AB/Y pedal to allow me to use both my guitar amps…..Fender 68 Custom Princeton Reverb and Blues Jr. NOS (Tweed). I waffled back and forth between Morley, the Fender, and a more expensive one with lift, ground, etc. switches. I figured for the price (it was on sale after Thanksgiving) it would be noisy, hum, etc. but it's dead quiet and works EXACTLY as advertised. Years ago, I'd use my two Black face Fender Deluxe Reverbs by going out of the #2 input on the 1st amp and then go to the second Deluxe Reverb input #1, but you always had both amps on and the second one had to be set at a higher volume due to the #2 output being attenuated. This AB/Y pedal allows switching from one amp to the other, or having both on. Haven't tried using it with one amp and two guitars (the other option for the pedal's use).
