top quality built. totally silent pickups. perfect. my fender p-bass has an american heavy ash body and maple neck. it produce a punchy highs. i was looking for pickup set that will suppress and cut some of the too-trebley sound. i installed Dimarzio P122. these are excellent pickups, but are not the flavor i wanted. too much highs and too modern in eq and sound color to my taste. since all reviews always point to the Fender Custom Shop pickups as the best upgrade for Precision, i've decided to choose the '63 pickups over the '62. they have a different eq curve. my bet was successful. the p-bass's sounds is now deeper, sweeter, pleasant growl and has a real vintage warmth that i wished to achieve.doron.mckeithen
I love these pickups! They are a great design that date more than 60 years and sound delightful. Unfortunately, with my most recent purchase of these pickups from Guitar Center one of the coils to the pair of pickups was dead. I suspect during the manufacturing process the dead coil itself was tested for continuity at the factory, but, I suspect, in process of wiring my pair of Precision pickups together the integrity of one of the coils was compromised and broken. This can happen and pickup coils lead should always be retested after the solider leads have been attached. I made the same mistake as the factory and did not check the integrity of the pickups prior to installation. Therefore I voided any return I could have made on this item. I had to buy another set which is now working great.David
I bought a Fender Ash body FSR Precision Bass (the sister to the Ash Bodied Standard Jazz Bass everyone is crazy about.) a few years ago at the Manchaester Ct. GC. the Pup's where not to be desired. so I changed them out with the Original They put these in the American Vintage series and there high end Pricision's so these pup's have to be good. and they are. I get compliments on my Bass I also put in a professionaly made Push Back Wired harness with CTS 250k Pots and spraug Orange drop. She littealy is a '62 now. and im in love with the tonal spectrum of this incredible Bass simply by changing to the Fender Original. looking to pure Precision tone cant go wrong with this set.viperBSG

works great,easy to install…
I had planned on buying this over a year ago, but wasn't really sure (based on hearsay from others) I would be happy with it. I did have to widen my holes with a round file a little bit in order to fit the ends of the wires through; outside of that, the instructions were easy to follow and I was playing in no time. I didn't need to create any extra space under the control panel for the battery, either. After I had it set up, I was amazed by the sound difference with more depth and a richer sound quality than I had before. I would highly recommend it.
This kit has everything you need to make your Jazz Bass sing! Put these in an ‘87 Japanese Fender Jazz Bass just to give the instrument a bit more punch. The only extra step I had to take was routing out the bridge pickup slot a bit wider (barely 1/16”). These solder-less kits are amazing and take no time at all to install. As always, American Musical shipped my order out super-fast and were a pleasure to work with. Thank you EMG and American Musical!Dan A

I installed this unit on a five string bass and use the GI20 MIDI convertor. Both are working great. I find the tracking and accuracy rate very good overall. I found the installation straight forward. The pickup comes with all the adapters necessary for most bass configurations. I will note that I had an initial tracking problem that was due to my rush to try the darn thing out. On the neck side of the pickup are two screws that allow you to adjust for varied string spacing. Make sure you take the time to align these. It greatly increases the accuracy of tracking. PS. Thank you Roland Support! they had me squared away in less than ten minutes.Mickey D.

5. Aguilar Ag 4p/j-Hc P Bass Pickup Set
Product Details:
The ag 4p/j-hc set brings together matched precision and jazz -style pickups including aguilaras successful ag 4p-60 p-bass pickup and the recently released ag 4j-hc bridge pickup. many p/j setups have pickups that are mismatched sonically an overly deep neck pickup with puny bridge pickup tone. by way of contrast the aguilar ag 4p/j-hc is a well-balanced set that provides a flexible array of tones whether using each pickup alone or in combination. now you can get the thunderous lows of the neck pickup or the midrange cut of the bridge or both – without 60 cycle hum! like all aguilar pickups the ag 4p/j-hc set is wound in aguilaras nyc factory and is a direct replacement for 4-string fender p-bass and jazz bridge pickups. the pickups use 42 gauge formvar wire and alnico v magnets for the big dynamic tone that aguilar pickups are known for.

Wow! Once I got these pickups installed and fired up I finally got the Sound I was craving. My Fender American Ultra Precision just did not have that classic P-bass sound, in fact is was just dull, but with these pickups it has been transformed. The combination of these pickups and my Aguilar Tonehammer 700 is killer. Thanks to Andy I would never have found the sound I needed and am inspired by. He knew exactly what I was looking for. Shipping was lightning fast not to mention the deal I received! Love it!!!!
When I ordered this product. I always trusted the Agular name and know they make quality products. When I put the pickups in it was a night and day difference. Clarity, punchy lows, miss, and highs. I would recommend these pickups to anyone who wants to improve the sound of their Fender Jazz Bass.Rick G
Bought these to install into a MIM jazz bass. They sound amazing really happy I installed these into the bass.Adam H.

I wanted to replace the old worn out pickups in my BC Rich Platinum series bass (P-bass style) with some new active pickups. Did some research and came up with these EMG pickups. I had to do just a small amount of routing for the bridge pickup, but nothing major. Got them put in, and all the electronics that came with them, and put new strings on, tuned up, and had to re-set it up, and what a difference! Made it a whole new bass! If you are wanting to bring your bass back to life, or just an overhaul, consider these pickups. Easy to install, no soldering, and they sound amazing.Jesse
I went in with these as a HUGE fan of EMG pickups, but this was my first set with the "solderless" electronics. Well, I was not disappointed. They replaced the pickups/preamp in my '87 Charvel B3, which already sounded great, but some of the controls were malfunctioning. These EMGs not only improved the sound, they also have a bit more output, and range.doublediver
Love it. Had no problems installing these on a passive Warwick Corvette Standard, plug and play. Guitar's pickup slots are more rounded, so I had to remove a little piece of wood for it to fit in, but it's unnoticeable and was required only in 1 pickup. Important – This item includes also 3 knobs+electronics, there's no need to order those separately! When I made the order, no where on the page it mentioned that nor had any image of the package contents, it shown only the pickups, so I thought I redundantly ordered them separately, which doubled the cost.kofif
7. Fender Original Jazz Bass Pickup Set
Product Details:
Available here is a pair of fender jazz bass guitar alnico pickups in used but excellent condition. this is a bridge/neck set that came out of a mexican fender bass from around 2010. i upgraded to aguilar brand pickups so these get to go to a new owner who can put them to good use. there are one or two tiny nicks in the cover plastic that may be seen in the photos. *note*- one of the pickup covers from my aguilar set was a hair too big for my bass and so i re-used the old pickup cover. as a result, one of these pickup covers is labeled aguilar but the internals of the pickup is not aguilar brand.

Reviews:
I put these in an American professional jazz to be able to blend without noise. I chose them because I wanted it to remain a completely Fender bass. They aren't absolutely horrible sounding, but I have decided the only way these companies should make noiseless "single coils" is by using side by side split coils. Not stacked dual coils. Splitting the coils gives good output, attitude, and a low mid bump- you know the kind that makes people love P basses. Everybody is figuring this out except Fender- the greatest guitar maker in the world. Aguilar, Dimarzio, Nordstrand, Seymour Duncan (recently), mojotone (guitar pickups), Fralin. They've all figured out the noiseless thing. I ended up with Nordstrand NJ4SE in one and Dimarzio model J in the other. Love both of my jazz basses now. I love you Fender, but get in the game with your pickups!Andrew
I don't know if this is the LATEST version of the noiseless jazz bass pickups…it is so hard to keep up with Fender as they roll out newer versions, however, this is a great replacement to older jazz bass pickups. It really as close to noise free as you can get as you solo each pickup individually. As most jazz bass players know, the single coil aspect of the jazz bass pickup is GOING to get some hum or noise unless you are playing both the neck and bridge pickups at the same time to cancel out noise. This retains the signature Fender Jazz Bass sound with great clarity with the advantage of being noise free. Highly recommended!!road-cat1
These are a special wind from Tim Shaw, the ultimate pickup guy at Fender. They are capable of perfect vintage deep bass while throwing out strong mids and super crisp, bright highs. Not super hot so you still have to work if you want overdrive distortion, which is a good thing. These have become my favorites for all my Fender builds–basses, teles, and strats.bobvarns

I have tried many pickups including Seymour Duncan Antiquities II, Nordstrand and fender custom shop. These are the best by far! Nice round tone and very clear. Perfect for a jazz bass with 60s position pickups. I liked them so much I bought the Ag 4J-70 for mi 78 fender jazz bass and I was not dissapointed. Best pickups for the money!Funkbass78
9. Aguilar Ag 4p-60 Bass Guitar Pickup
Product Details:
The fender precision bass provided the big, round tone found in almost every hit song from the '60s. to create a pickup with that much vibe and feel, aguilar studied the pickups from aguilar president dave boonshofts personal 1963 and 64 precision basses. the ag 4, 5, and 6p-60 pickups use all the period-correct parts, including heavy formvar wire and alnico v magnets. these pickups have just the right amount of mid-range nose to cut through a loud rock band and give all the deep support one would expect from a great 60s p-bass pickup. the ag 4p-60 is direct replacement for precision bass style bassesplease see the specs section below for the ag 5, 5cl, and 6p-60 dimensions. the ag 5p-60cl has a smaller cover and accepts a narrower, 17.5mm18.5mm string spacing.

Reviews:
I replaced the pickups and circuitry of a new Squier Classic Vibe '60's Precision Bass, first with EMG pickup (Did NOT like the EMG) then the Aguilar, after seeing reviews. I also replaced pots with Bourns 250k Linear for Vol. and Bourns 250k Audio for Tone, installing a 0.068mf capacitor on the Tone pot. Terrific combination. There is a fine range of tone with these pickups, nicely governed by the Bourns. Really lovely deep clear growl on the low E, so it's a pleasure to be doing scales and riffs down there. The .068mf cap filters off the thinner, snappy upper string sound, so there is more useable range since the A, D and G don't sound tooo thin and barky on the low frets. That single, inexpensive capacitor change makes a fine difference! Oh, also installed a Fender higher-mass bridge, as seen in photo.Andrew G.
Aguilar 4P-60 4-String P Bass 60's – High quality of pickup. class A . I installed it on my Fender P bass made in Japan and you can hear the difference straight away, bright and load of mid with full open tone, and if you close the tone old Motown sound that take you right to old funk club. this is very good replacement for MIJ or MIM bass or take every "on the budget" bass and make it high standard bass (or if you build you own bass kind of guy or girl) . this is top a product from top A company that give you 120% value for you money.kinkyroy2
It is just the sound I wanted.. Great fat sound with nice high end and a good " Nose" sound.dijk_79
10. Emg J Set Active Bass Pickup Black
Product Details:
This item was returned in mint condition. it is free of any performance issues, and has no scratches, blemishes, or other cosmetic flaws. sweeping harmonic overtones and clarity, these active bass pickups have full-bodied sounds that add new dimensions to your bass playing. they have very low ratios of resistance to inductance that increase the low-frequency response, yet still maintain the narrow aperture for that typical jazz bass tone. instead of the side-by-side pole pieces, the emg j sets use single-pole crescent-shaped magnetic fields to complement the radiused fingerboard. so whether you play fretted or fretless bass, you'll get incredible sound yet retain that traditional tone. recommended maximum overall string width, however, is 2-3/4" (70 mm). the emg j set bass pickups come complete with prewired harnesses including dual volume controls, master tone controls, output jacks, battery clips, and pickup adjustment screws.

Reviews:
I have been a bass player for several churches, and continue to do so now on a weekly basis. I played bass in several church events and fundraisers aswell, but never really got the low-end and punch from my bass that I wanted. It always seemed a little too shallow, and behind the music in volume. I finally invested in an active set to replace the passive stock pickups, and I couldn't be happier (I also invested in a nice bass-booster pedal, which is phenomenal). I bring my 5-String SX Vintage Series Bass equipped with these EMGs every Sunday now, and the tone could not be more impressive. I recently bought a 4-String P-Bass Style Fretless for a more wide-range of sounds, and it won't be long before I stick some EMGs on it aswell. Also on a side note, running these EMGs through a nice Ampeg Bass amp, is a bass dream come true.Shawn
I bought this J5 set to fit to my 5 string jazz that I had previously modified in 1996 with a set of emg pick ups. Unfortunately, at that time only standard 4 string pick ups were available and although the string spacing was within tolerance and the bass sounded great the pick ups were undersized and the install never looked tidy. This J5 set is a direct replacement for the original pick ups in a 1996 USA Fender Jazz Standard 5 string.
11. Emg J-X Active Bass Pickup Set Black
Product Details:
The emg j-x active bass pickup set features ceramic magnets powered by a newly designed preamp. it has characteristic jazz bass tone, but due to emg's custom radiused ceramic bar magnet, and the very low ratio of resistance to inductance, the tone has a modern, tight midrange punch, and superior dynamic high-end response-all with less noise and more signal. so whether you play fretted or fretless bass, playing live or in the studio, the emg bass pickup gives you incredibly full sound. give it a try and experience why the "x" factor is exciting bass players all around the world. the complete replacement pickup package includes emg's exclusive solderless quik-connect system; control set including 2 volume controls, master active tone control, output jack, battery clip, and adjustment screws.

Reviews:
The pickups were super easy to install and almost hassle free! Almost all connections are solderless which makes installing them a breeze. These pickups sound amazing compared to the stock Peavey Millenium Pickups. Only slight sanding on the screw point was needed in order for the neck pickup to drop into place.Trisphere
I bought the pickups a couple of days ago and immediately tried setting them up for my jazz bass and i was having a little bit of difficulty. one of the soderless wires didnt quite fit in the pickup but eventually i made it work. Also there was not enough room under the control plate so i had to route out the back of the body and use an old pickguard and the back of a wah pedal to fashion a battery clip. After the battery was in place i realized that i had the wrong type of output jack. I had a mono and needed a stereo jack. i drove down to radioshack and picked one up and plugged the guitar in. I immediatly heard a difference. i can get anywhere from ajaco pastorius sound to a growling sound easily just by tweaking the knobs on the bass. Im really happy with their performance so far and cant wait to test them at a gig.reedorius123
These emgs are overall a very good buy. You won't hear a completely different tone coming from your amp if you have jbass stock pickups, but they are definitely a whole different level of pickup. Fairly easy to install. The only trouble I had was fitting the battery in, but I made it work. Slapping is crisp and nice and fingerstyle and pick playing are nice and smooth. Highly recommended to anyone who has stock pickups and would like an upgrade.Jbassist
12. Emg Jvx Bass Pickup Set Black
Product Details:
The emg jvx set is a mixture of old and new, utilizing traditional exposed pole pieces and emgs x series preamp. this preamp bridges the gap between passive and active tone and feel. developed to deliver the classic tone and look of a vintage jazz bass without the noise often associated with vintage passive pickups. this pickup maintains the faded attack of the offset pole pieces that many players prefer in combination with our most dynamic preamp. the jvx set will appeal to the player looking for a retro vibe with the active tone and frequency range of an emg.

Reviews:
My only grip as mentioned earlier is the length of the pickup leads. Had these had been just an inch longer they would have fit my bass. If you own a Fender Jazz Bass or very close clone with the same control cavity and distance from the pickups than this pickup set will work. NOTE: The lead provided from the pickups to the volume pots are made to fit exactly with that specific distance in mind. I also think that it would have been nice to have this pre-installed on a Fender Jazz Bass control plate. I must say the components included are top notch. Very solid connectors, pots and input jack. Had this pickup set had long enough leads to accomidate my bass the value would be comparable to that of Seymour Duncans active set. However, this set doesn't require soldering which is better for the novice DIYer to assemble.ClasRoc85
After trying numorous pickups(Dp123's, basslines, fender, Nordy's) in my Fender Jazz, I have finally found the sound I was looking for. They are very open and have a very focused, tight bottom end and nice crisp highs with a classic growl from the bridge pickup. These pup's are dead quiet! They were very easy to install (outstanding directions)…the only issue was trying to get the battery to fit in the bass, but it does fit and everything works and sounds perfectly. IMO, These are by far the best sounding pickups I have ever heard. Great job EMG!Stickman-RM0bt
Me: 25 years on bass playing everything from dive bars to music festivals to opening acts for legendary artists. I put these a MIM Jazz that I got from and equipment trade with a friend. The sound of these pickups are unparalleled. I knew I would get a better tone just from the reviews and YouTube videos, but i never expected what I got! The highs are clear as a bell, the low are smooth and full, mid range cuts through the mix just the way you want, no "jazz buzz" at all. Bottom line, they made this MIM Jazz sound like a top of the line American deluxe. On the bad side, there is zero room for a 9v battery in a jazz compartment. When I first put it together I had to remove the base nut and lock washer from my 2 volume knobs to allow enough room to fit the 9v. So those 2 knobs were way to high and looked very awkward. So I purchased and battery box off ebay and routed out a spot on the backside of my Jazz. I know not every one can do that but I highly recommend you do it or find someone who can because the lack of space is a nightmare. Also, changing out the battery would eventually lead to broken wires because of the limited space and you having to push wires out of the way of the battery to reattach the plate. Also, during the wiring process, read the directions very carefully. There is one wire that has to be connected in the opposite manner as the rest and it is only notated in the diagram in very small text. I missed it the first time and had to take it all back apart to change that one wire. This was even more irritating when you consider the lack of 9v room I mentioned earlier.Professor Tice

14. Aguilar Ag 4j Hc Bass Pickup Set
Product Details:
As a direct replacement for 4-string fender jazz and other j-style basses, these split-coil pickups give you noiseless jazz bass tone that works for all playing styles.with traditional single-coil pickups, bassists are plagued by hum when the neck and bridge pickups are at different volume levels. while other hum-canceling pickups tackle the noise, you are left with thinner lows, a harsher midrange and a lack of dynamics. the aguilar hum-canceling pickups feature a split-coil design that allows you to get any pickup level combination without 60-cycle hum – all while retaining the natural, organic tone of your bass. now you can experience the deep, resonant low-end of the neck pickup or solo the bridge pickup for that sought-after midrange cut without annoying hum! wound in aguilar’s nyc factory, the hc pickups use 42 gauge formvar wire and alnico v magnets for the big, dynamic tone that aguilar pickups are known for.

Very easy to install with no messing around with soldering. The sound I get from these is mega.David S.
I love the EMG JAX sound because these pickups actually let you hear what your instrument should sound like. I can feel the instrument better and be more creative at the same time. No matter if you play at low volumes or crank it out these pick ups bring your instrument to life and allow you to be creative and use your instrument to its fullest. Available in three colors to match just about any color combo. I cselected the white to match the finish on my four string signature series Marcus Miller Fender Jazz. The JAX series is plug and play so no drilling, cutting or soldering! The pick ups are direct replacements so they fit perfect. All volume, tone controls and input jacks are included also. The pick ups are super quiet! The tone is very vintage but mantains a very modern edge. Wide range of tones with what comes in the box. Add the EXB tone enhancer if you are a tone freak like me. I have the JX series in my natural color signature series Marcus Miller and the sound is more modern with a very mid range punch great for slapping. Install the JAX Series if you need a do it all tone. Awesome Funk,Rock,Jazz, R&B, Latin Etc. Well I need to say it again first and far most quiet!!! Noisy pick ups on a bass is not cool or fun. Do not except anything lees than the best if you are serious about your tone. The wiring is professional quality. The pick up covers are strong and robust built to last. The Vol and tone pots are pro quality & again quiet. EMG = Quality. Quallity USA Manufactured Products. The EMG JAX pickups are a great value because you can do all the work yourself and the result will be a professional look and sound every time.

19. Fender V-Mod Precision Bass Pickup Set
Product Details:
Awesome sounding pick-up. bought and installed it back in july to liven-up my fender pj bass, and it did exactly that. i originally wanted to get a mike dirnt custom p-pickup (which i now have), but settled for this because none were available at the time. i didn't have any good referneces for how the pick-up sounded before i bought it, but i took a chance on it anyway and was not dissapointed. the alnico 5/3 magnet variation actually had a substancial effect on the tone. the low-end is crisp, controllable, and not overbearing, and the high-end is gritty and fat. i definitely recommend this to anyone trying to upgrade their p-bass. barely used it at all. no wear or damage on it or the wires in anyway. recorded a single with my band and played a few shows with it. took it out of my bass a few months ago because i finally got the pick-up i've been after for a few years. comes with the new screws and cushion, manual, and original case.
