I don't understand the9volt disclaimer, is it not to be used with a daisy chain power supply like the "One Spot"? I'm a metal guy at heart, so when I finally put the Metal Zone away and started building a grownup pedal board, a Tube Screamer was high on my list. I was particularly interested in this unit because of the size, since my beginner board probably isn't going to be very big. I plugged this little guy into my regular setup and was immediately blown away. If you've played some metal you know the setup: straight into a high gain amp, drive at 0, level at 10, and tone dialed in to taste. It made my Orange Micro Dark Terror, digital Bias FX rig, and even my sad old Marshall solid state roar, but in a much more defined way that never felt flabby or uncontrollable. I would recommend pairing it with a decent noise gate to trim down the hum, but that's just what electric guitars do when you crank the gain, and not a flaw of this pedal in particular. Okay, sure, it can do metal. I've also run this unit through a bunch of other setups and contexts. Through my Orange I definitely got very usable blues and classic rock tones by pulling the gain and volume back on the amp, and setting everything on the pedal around half way. I can even see potentially using it with the drive all the way up as a lead boost or to slightly break up a clean tone. This little thing is a beast for sure, and is pretty much perfect for my uses. It's not a transform your amp kind of effect, it's meant to compliment what your existing equipment already does. It has some specific things it does well, and it *really* nails them. #sweepstakesDan
Stop what you're doing right now. RIGHT NOW, and get this pedal. This tiny little monster sounds incredible and I am kicking myself for not trying any kind of Tube Screamer for my 20+ years of playing guitar. This literally sounds like a tube amp in a box. You can dial in the perfect amount of boost or drive without really impacting your guitar's true tone. If you push it all the way, it's almost in distortion territory, yet it retains warmth and picking dynamics…on the other hand it compresses nicely – like a tube amp. How does it do that? It's magic. I got this mini version because I'm building a mini pedal board, so it fits perfectly. Don't let the size fool you though, because it sounds incredible. The only drawback is that it needs an external power supply. Oh, and as an added bonus, this is made in Japan, and it shows. The switches, knobs, and inputs feel very high-quality. In my opinion, this is incredible bargain.Jamers
I collect Tube Screamers, and decided to get this for the collection. Soundwise, it works as a TS808; great transparent overdrive for stand-alone use but excels at boosting gain on an overdriven amp. Not as harsh or "dark" as a TS9, and a decent price. Definitely a TS to consider if you're trying to save some money; you definitely won't be missing out on the sound of the TS808. Also great if you want to add a Tube Screamer to a board, but need to save space. The only negative I can say is the Level and Tone knobs are difficult to see for settings, but that's true with most mini pedals. It doesn't take a battery, but there again, neither do most mini pedals. Construction is more solid than the Mooer Green Mile, and the TSMini is made in Japan (thought for sure it was Chinese). The price is great on these, but I'd also consider checking out the East River Overdrive by EHX; my current favorite Tube Screamer clone. As far as the Ibanez Tube Screamer line-up, this is seemingly the best value.Dave

I could spend all day yapping about this pedal…In my travels i've tried countless pedals, but got tired of having 'too many' pedals. The weight, the time it took to hook it all up. I also busk, or play where electricity isn't available, and wanted a setup where i could make one trip with everything, and keep the weight down. I've always been a fan of ZOOM products, so trying out the Multistomp series was a no-brainer for me. The 50G met all my requirements, and exceed them all after i got one and started using it. Tones that are as good as any higher priced pedal, the versatility is second to none, and the price is killer for what this pedal can do. I would say the the Bluetooth version was my favorite, then the 70CDR, then the 50G, with the 50G's new 3.0 update, the 50 G is now my favorite pedal…period. The 50G started with maybe 50 patches, now it has 172, and best of all it has the Exciter patch, which to me is required on any pedal board. All i can suggest is watch the countless demo videos of this pedal. I would recommend this pedal for any level of guitarist, i would also recommend the MS-70CDR, watch the demo videos of the 70-CDR vs Strymons…amazing I cant say enough good things about the 50G, i believe it's near the perfect all around pedal. The MS-50G pedal is first class. It is every bit as clean, quiet, and well built as the Boss pedals. It is not a replacement for the Boss line. Zoom pedals have a character of their own. Personally, I like the Zoom tone. But I'm not a guitar player. There is a great ~15 minute YouTube instructional video for the MS-50G. I got over the learning curve for writing and storing effects by watching this video, then I bought pedal. It replaces several pieces of my high quality studio gear when I need fast results that are of high level audio quality. Zoom delivers with this product. After I watched this video I purchased the pedal. I also like my G1X as a companion to this pedal. The G1X has a nice volume/expression pedal.Sean
I needed something for my living room and practicing while watching TV late at night without a full pedal board or multi-effects box. This along with a Boss RC-3 and a mini mixer for my wireless headphones provides everything I have in my studio at a mini level. The sounds are good enough. There are enough options in sound to play most anything. Eventually I'll try this little beast as a sub for my full pedal board and see how it works in a live jam. One pedal to do everything. It's not perfect but it is great. I wish Zoom would provide updates to it and a better manager. It's pretty old by today's standards and if Zoom provided updated files they would sell even more if these great little boxes. Initially intended to buy an Xotic EP Booster because I wanted to try the Echoplex thing out, but saw this little guy and figured…why not? I like it so much, I don't see the point in ordering the EP Booster anymore! Hits the front end of my Soldano in a way no overdrive has yet, and with no noise. Works equally well in front of my OCD pedal for a lead boost. And to all the people whining about the switch not clicking…whatever. This pedal does exactly what it claims and does it better than other pedals of the same purpose. It is constructed extremely well. For around $50 this pedal's physical casing and switch assembly is made better than pedals I own costing hundreds of dollars more. I don't foresee this pedal ever needing replacement or repair. I'm not particularly fond of the "momentary volume boost" feature but that doesn't change my overall opinion. It's a great item.ethan1957

Ok lets all remember that this is an overdrive pedal. This is designed to help out your sound and not necessarily be the end all and be all of overdrive tones. There is a reason that amps that have a clean and dirty channel cost more and the better the sound the more they cost. Distortion pedals are relatively cheap and can really help out an amp that is so-so or give a little punch to a lead so that you don't have to fiddle with the knob settings of the amp right before. With that said THIS PEDAL WILL DELIVER. Simple, sleek and with three settings that cover a wide range of sounds. I like the LED that confirms ON-OFF if you are using it as a lead boost. Sometimes you can get carried away and keep using it in the rythm sections, but the light reminds you that you are not Zakk Wylde and that maybe some of the rest of the band might want to be heard. Overall its a great overdrive pedal not over the top and its awesome i Reccomend it to anyone I love the pedal its so simple to use three knobs and it gives great sound it really beefs up the sound on any amp no matter what channel. I read the reviews on how good it and watch so many videos of people using it and the sound was awesome so I knew that I had to buy it. The sound really beefs everything up especially on an overdrive channel. When i played on clean then turn this pedal on it made it sound jump to a crunch settting even though i set it on clean, on overdrive it gives it that extra kick that I was looking for. The main reason I bought this pedal was to have a good overdrive pedal to kick up my overdrive a little more and bring my Zack Wylde Crybaby to life because If you get the crybaby by itself it looses the sound and gets lost in the mix but with the overdrive it cuts through the mix and brings the sound back to life so you won't be disapointed. For the price its a great pedal its really good no matter what channel im playing on im not disappointed and along with my crybaby pedals ( dunlop zack wylde & morley mark tremonti) the overdrive gives them and extra kick
I use this to drive my OD1 channel on my Blackstar series one 100 amp. With all the knobs set at 12 o'clock it gives me the perfect high gain crunch I need. Easy pinch harmonics and sustain. The overall sound is dead on where it doesn't color my original signal. Oh and the gain on the amp is turned all the way up. I have the Blackstar dual overdrive that does not have the right sound and the Hardwire overdrive that also own that i like due to the high gain I want with very little hum or hiss you get when driving an amp however that creamy tube sound is not there like the ZW44.kmclean612

From slight dirt to full on creamy plexi distortion. It’s all there. Cleans up with the guitar volume knob. Pairs well with other exotic effects. I have two SL drives, one for grit and the other set for lead, as well as an exotic AC booster before to add a bit of boost. I run the EP booster at the end for nice volume boost. I chose the SL Drive from a huge amount of drives on the market as I wanted something that fit on a small pedalboard, could provide a Marshall style sound at all gain levels as an alternative to amp gain, and which could work well with the BB MB pre-amp also by Xotic. This pedal really delivers. Although it takes time to set up and find the best sounds for personal preference, it provides a variety of useful tones across the spectra of volume, gain, and equalisation. The design is just so thoughtful and I like the possibility of running it at 18v, although at the moment 9v is better to my ears. I've had the SL drive for awhile now and try as I might I can't find anything that can kick it off my board. I've tried numerous other amp in a box pedals(Marshall and otherwise),overdrives and distortions but I keep coming back to this little guy. I guess I keep trying because I find it hard to believe that a pedal this small and this inexpensive(relatively) can't be outdone. I love this thing. If you're looking for that classic '60s fuzz sound as in the the type in the song this pedal gets its name from this is the pedal to do it. When I think of fuzz that is what I'm thinking of and any pedal I ever tried did not sound like that. EHX nailed it with this one. And although it has that classic sound, it is 21st century technology. It's built solid and the true bypass circuitry keeps the signal clean. I almost put that it only does one thing as a con but I don't really consider that a con. It does what it's supposed to do and it does it well. I should have probably listened to the reviews on this pedal and realized that the high boost was going to give me would be a tough thing to work around. While it does match the sound of the of the satisfaction recording pretty faithfully, I find it hard to believe that maestro fuzztone pedal that was used at the time boosted the highs like this guy does. More than likely the EQ on the amp Keith Richards was using had more to do with it. If you were to add an EQ after the pedal and use it in conjunction with it I have no doubt you could get some great fuzz tones, as of right now in it's current state with out a tone knob or anything to control the EQ it's a little too harsh for my ears. Running into a fairly clean and flat-ish EQ on a Fender Twin Reverb. But I don't think a pedal should require another pedal or effect to sound good. How odd. This review was flagged for writing Big Mu** using the two F's 🙂 For the money, this is a really hard pedal to beat. It goes from mild and laid-back to wild and intense. The controls feel great…like as in excellent quality. This is a reissue of the original Big Mu** PI. I tried a Big Mu** PI with Wicker and forget about it. It hissed so loud in Wicker mode that I couldn't even here myself think and it got even worse with the tone switch off. And even in the so-called Big Mu** PI mode, it didn't sound anywhere near as good as this Rams Head does. And, the Rams Head is quiet compared to the BM PI with Wicker. One more thing, The BM PI with Wicker does not say anywhere on it nor in the included paperwork where it's made, whereas the RH BM PI clearly says New York City on the face of it…Vincent
The tone sweep is nice and there are some interesting spots because it is linear while kind of non-linear at 10 to noon and about 1-2 on tone control. I can't say why but usually I had purchased like more expensive versions of ehx pedals. That being said, I think people need to realize that these are quite accurate reissues and circuits, and just because it is an affordable pedal doesn't mean it isn't great.
Overall: Floats like a stone and stings like a nest of angry hornets! This box has the buzzsaw sound down pat. The fuzz is a thick, smooth, and consistent. I like this kind of fuzz in particular because it’s less fuzzy and little more distortion-like. The Tone knob has a really wide sweep from boomy bass to mid-range Hades. It has plenty of gain on tap and even sounds pretty good with the guitar’s volume rolled back a skosh.I’ve never used the original Green Russian Muff and have only heard them compared through videos online, so I can’t speak as to how they’re different/alike. I got it because I didn’t want to haul my vintage Black Russian Muff around from gig to gig anymore because it’s getting valuable and since it was a pretty jenky design to begin with, it’s liable to break with heavy use. That being said, the reissue Green Russian Muff has a different sound than an original V8 Black Russian Muff. It doesn’t sound as good to me, but it’s not so different that I wouldn’t use the Green Russian live in lieu of the Black Russian for the aforementioned reasons. One huge plus for the Green Russian is its pedalboard friendly size. The Black Russian is the size of an 80s metal lunchbox and took up an awkward sized chunk of the pedalboard. Now there’s more room for other unnecessary boxes (gulp)! One noteworthy ding for this pedal is how difficult it is to see the script on the top of the pedal. The words are printed right underneath the knobs, so if it’s kinda dark (which it usually is) and the lights are all in front of you (which they usually are) the words are impossible to see. Sounds great. Also surprising versatility with the HP/LP settings. One criticism is that its very loud. Slotting in after 2 boosts and an OD, then before a fuzz has played havoc with my gain structure as, with those other pedals operating within normal vol ranges, I've found the volume on the OCD needs to be most of the way down when using drive greater than 12-o-clock which is even more noticeable on the HP setting. Btw, that's into a highish headroom amp so if you were using the OCD to further drive an already breaking up amp into much more compression then probably not that great an issueReviewed by Andertons Music Co.
I needed something to stack along side of my TS that did not overpower the sound of the other pedal or sound too thick on its own. This pedal sounds fantastic with single coil pickups and pairs extremely well with other OD pedals. I like the fact it can run on either battery, 9V, or 18V AC connections, making this a great choice if you have limited ports on your power supply. On its own, it stands out very well when dialing up the drive settings and it sounds absolutely great coming through a properly dimed tube amplifier. It is no coincidence you see these pedals on the boards of many great professional players… This box just has excellent tone and all their products are handmade in the USA with plenty of care involved–making them a quality purchase. I've owned the Fulltone OCD for just over a week now and I can confidently say it's the best overdrive effects pedal I've ever had the pleasure of using. It has a sturdy build, it's versatile, it retains the original tone and colour of your guitar/amp combo and it's LOUD! I wanted a pedal that would fit compliment my '65 Twin Reverb Reissue amp and Telecaster, I love the tone of my setup but I really needed some bite in the shape of a good overdrive. After doing some research and seeing the name Fulltone OCD pop up again and again I started to get very curious about this pedal, the clincher was when I saw it on the pedal board of a guitarist on youtube who was showing off some of my favourite licks! Upgraded to this unit from a Pod XT Pro rack. This unit not only has amazing and better sounds but more flexible options and a wider array of effects and amps. Pros: -Sound is stunning. I've not done a side-by-side with a real amp mic'ed with a specific mic in a certain position, but it's utterly convincing to my ears. -Blocks can be re-ordered without restriction. For example, want to daisy chain two amps to get that "you really got me" sound? You can do it and it actually works. -Multiple outs and routing -Flexible pedal assignments. You can connect up another two external footswitches (or exp pedals) and assign to any block. OR, you can assign more than one block to a single pedal (so you could activate a tube screamer, digital delay, and anything else with a single press ready for your solo). OR, you can just use a snapshot and change dozens of parameters with a single press. No more "dancing" around the pedal board, hitting the wrong pedals in the process, looking like an utter berk etc. -Preset sounds with flexible ways to work through them. At a gig I don't have time to change an abundance of settings so have a preset for each song. Sound completely changed in half a second. Next song started without hesitation. -All functions of the unit look like they can be configured through the front panel without having to use the Windows or MAC editor. Cons -Terrible, terrible power supply brick. I can't believe Line 6 sell it like this. They even know it's rubbish – the manual says something to the effect of: "we know the power supply is big but it needs to be special to give you enough juice". Big is not the problem – being stuck upwards in the air from your mains socket standing proud like, er, ahem, well something unmentionable is the problem. Plus when you try to unplug it, the power supply comes in half leaving a little bit left in the mains socket. Which will inevitably get left at a gig. Can't wait for that to happen. -limited number of presets. I need a preset for each of 60 songs. I keep a copy of each preset as a master then duplicate them in the order of the night's set list into other presets – so with that I need at least 120 presets, allowing myself one or two to fiddle with. If I recall correctly this has around 126. Best not learn three more songs that need a different sound each. -It's a little difficult to program the thing – the button layout is confusing and unintuitive compared to the Pod XT pro I have just replaced. I can make the trade-off for the sound but this would not work for many I suspect. -Windows or MAC editor – really? Where do I set that up then? Ah yes I just need a $1000 laptop or a chuffing great desktop unit and monitor to hand. I want to spend my money on guitar gear, thanks! Some other vendors have bluetooth and android apps, line 6 for a change is behind the curve. Two final points. 1) If you need something easier to use buy something with more buttons, knobs and pedal switches. 2) If you really like a particular sound, go out and buy the real amp / effect. You just can't beat the real thing. But this gets very, very close, and of course you have several hundred "things" to choose from with no crackles, no mic stand to get kicked, etc etc.
Purchased as a desktop amp to replace a Kemper head and footswitch, primarily for desktop and recording purposes. The unit is very solidly made and takes up next to no space. Although there are limited knobs on the unit itself, the Windows HX Edit software is excellent and makes it super easy to configure presets. Whilst the HX Stomp's effects blocks are very limited compared with the full size Helix, if you typically use a straightforward setup with, say 3-4 pedals, an amp, a cab/IR I don't see why this tiny device couldn't replace an entire rig. One minus point is that the external PSU has poorly designed plastic adapters for different plug types (UK/Euro etc) which disconnect from the PSU far too easily. First time I took mine out the house I unplugged it and didn't realise the adapter had remained in the socket. I had to buy a US to UK adapter. Something to be aware of if you plan on taking this on the road. Also bear in mind that at the time of writing it's not possible to share presets between Stomp and the larger Helix units.
Where do I begin? What a fantastic unit. I've played it both through a tube, stereo 4×12 rig and an FRFR and it sounds incredible through both. The delays, the mods, the tube amps, the pedals the IR options. The most exciting thing about this is the sound! The Helix class software lets me play like me and sound like me. However, another fantastic feature is the edit-ability, and that you get Helix Native for 99 bucks that loads in full Helix profiles with tons of presets. I love loading the profiles into Native and scaling them down for Stomp XL. Another is the portability. I can tote this thing around everywhere and not even feel the pain of dragging around heavy processing gear. I haven't had it long and am just digging in, but i can tell you, it gets more and more exciting what the Helix class software/ HX Stomp can do the further I go. Seamless computer to unit edits and updates are easy. Get it…get it now. You wont regret it. Five stars in every category.Bobby O'Dell

I track usually 4 rhythm tracks, two of the exact same then two more of the same but with accents or harmonies etc as my main rhythm and I like it to be tight and sound like one guitar performance, the variations and accents and harmonies blend and widen the sound, also I use hard panning and other panning to make the guitar sound huge. With the guitar sound very close performance wise and tone/distortion quality wise, I find that it just sounds like one massive performance and the listener perceived it as a Randy Rhoads kind of singular performance. I'm the only guitarist and I play complex chords, this also let's be play parts of the chord separately for more even intonation and harmonics definition. It goes towards the big sound, I kind of learned from Alex Lifeson, Rhoads, and Hatfield and Wolf of Accept this approach as they all do the main rhythms and it sounds tight and huge. Mimiq helps me get the 4 tracks with only two performances and it adds natural sounding random variations that do what the multitrack stacking of individual performances does, it doesn't just uniformly cancel out all the interesting variations, which can happen if you just copy the same track and reamp. It does what I wanted to do, with less than half the effort.Mindcage
This replaced the signal splitter on my board with the added benefit of actually making my stereo sound better. I have it right after my tuner and it splits into an HM-2 LHP on the dry side and a Blackened Fuzz on the wet "double" side. Makes my stereo rig sound better. I only use the 1 dub mode, so Dry and 1 Double L/R and I use it pretty tight, just enough to make it sound "different" but not sloppy. Does exactly what I had hoped it would do.
Bought to run a slight delay to a second amp more so than the "double track" thing. But actually this effect seems pretty decent. Did i immediately notice you can get phase issues? Yes of course. Did i get some of that notorious left right jump thing? Yes. But it seems to relate to using the pedal at the limits of what its happy with. For the price this thing is a keeper…because otherwise im having to spend big dosh on either the 30ms or the Deco. Buy this but be prepared to accept some limitations and bug bears. This is a decent fuzz pedal that is better than some of the other offerings. I have a bunch of fuzz pedals and this one is good but not great. It will get you reasonably close on a lot of tones. It does not quite have nearly the tone and certainly not the feel of a couple of my other boutique fuzzes that simply are much better. That said, for a mass produced pedal it is one of the better ones among it's comptetitors. I have a fulltone OCD and I really like it a lot. I did not care for the mini dejavibe or this pedal. They were not horrible just nothing special. Fulltone does build a quality product that will last and some people really like them. Always heard a lot about the Holy Grail and the Soul Food pedals, and wondered what the fuss was all about. Found out.I have a half dozen od pedals ( Ts-808, BD,DOD) and they all have there place on the board, but this one has a different growl than the others. Not as brittle as the BD, yet not as smooth as the TS. Not overpowering, just the "right " amount. Needed a reverb pedal too.The Defender amp I use has Dark Vader spring reverb, but not on a foot switch. There is a switch that let's you choose between spring, hall, and plate reverbs, as well as a reverse reverb. The first three sound very good. Can't really find a use for the reverse though. Maybe it sounds different to me mites in Austrrrralia , since everything is supposed to be backwards down under. If I was stranded on a desert island and could only take one pedal, this would be it. Great pedal if you like smooth distortion and unobtrusive fuzz a la Jimi Hendrix. Extremely well made and well researched as to use transistors etc. that were used in his equipment . Tried it in a store – didn't like it – too subtle. Then I tried it again, and gave it a shot live. It rules. The cool thing about this pedal is that it's really practical – it doesn't blow you away in a store with how "effected" it sounds. Instead, it is incredibly transparent. It allows you to just juice your amp. I bought it after doing a record where I used no pedal, just moved my gain (JTM Marshal style hand wired amp) up and down for different tones. Live I realized I need a pedal that could push my amp without altering the character. The Catalyst does this really well – and gives you all the extra you would want, without sounded at all like a pedal. Most TS style OD cut the bass and push the mids. This pedal pushes everything at once. It can also enhance your mids, which is what happens on my amp when I crank it up, so it captures a very usable approximation of me moving my gain knob around. I'm using it in the spark setting, with the gain almost all the way up. The flame is cool too, but I have a fulltone soul bender for fuzz, so for me, the catalyst is all about transparent "MORE" – so good.jonnyscience
