Ordered this nut to actually replace a damaged nut on a 1980's Japanese S type electric guitar. Being a copy, the nut slot didn't conform to standard Fender dimensions, so I purchased the Graph Tech acoustic model nut (which is much larger but has same string spacing) and re-modelled it. It fits perfectly, strings are perfectly spaced (had to do some minor adjustments to the slot depths) but its transformed my cheap nasty untunable copy into a sweet sounding, playable electric with perfect intonation. The strings now sound much brighter, owing to the dense Tusq material. Graph Tech products are more expensive than your standard plastic or bone nut, but well made and finished, they're easy to re-work with standard hand files and wet / dry paper. I got this graph tech saddle for a lower end epiphone acoustic guitar model ( PR-150 ). i did not expect very much more out of this cheaper guitar, but after the saddle was put in place this epiphone sounded louder much brighter and projected and held the tone twice as long than before. the saddle was a bit to long, a little wider and also just a bit higher but not to much sanding was needed. It only took about 20 minutes to sand by hand to install this graph tech saddle. made a bigger difference than what i thought. I love these saddle,s. Trying to put one on every guitar i own. so if you have a cheaper guitar or maybe a more expensive guitar that came with a plastic saddle try a graph tech you will be glad you did. hope this help,s in your decision.livehere8

In graphtech's website it says that this is the perfect size for Fender acoustic guitars, but it was about 3 millimeters too short in length. My fault though for not double checking before ordering. I didn't have another one so I installed it anyway. The difference in sound is amazing, I love tusq nuts and saddles. I have done saddle work on many acoustic guitars ,and it takes a lot of hit and miss, to get it just right.The saddle, I received was,the exact high, and the right radius and needed just a few thickness sanding's to fit perfect. I Didn't have to do any length, height, or end rounding. The tone and the finished top *compensation* angles, of the saddle, are right on.This will be my new source, for my bone saddles. I bought this for my 80's Yamaha FG340ii, as a luthier who originally setup the guitar when I bought it new told me I might want to replace the saddle with a bone one, but I never got around to it until now. I chose the compensated saddle as my other acoustics have that type of saddle and thought it would improve the guitars intonation. I had to sand the saddle height and width to get it to fit and still may want to round the ends as the original saddle had curved ends and the Graph Tech has pointy squarish ends. Did it do wonders for the sound?–I don't think it has, as the guitar sounds very much the same as it did before and seems neither better nor worse. The guitar had an excellent tone to begin with, and I still have very good hearing and can still hear high frequencies that most of my friends can no longer hear. Maybe long term playing will tell a difference and determine whether it was worth it. A better saddle may improve your guitars sound and costs so little that I would recommend replacing your old plastic saddle.matsont

Wow. I have gone full circle. I started with Tusq, but was offended when in some tunings it would give a ringing in the two top strings. I went to bone, which good for low frequency response and helped with the ringing, but didn't have the clarity of tone that Tusq had. Then I went to the Bob Colossi West African Ivory saddle. Ivory is brighter than bone, but I felt I was missing some high end response and overtones. I have four acoustic guitars, and one by one I started trying Tusq again. The ideal I have now found is to use Tusq on ALL my acoustic guitars, and have several of them de-tuned three frets. (E, for example, is now lowered to C#.)Only Tusq allows such lowering of tuning while really performing acoustically. (If you only detune one or two frets, you might get upper string ringing, and you would have less overtones.) Note: One complaint about Tusq is that it gets grooves worn into the saddle faster than with bone or ivory. If you lower the tuning, this problem should be significantly decreased. If you are a die-hard purist who refuses to lower the tuning of your instrument, you might consider bone as the alternative, to get away from brigtness. I feel sorry for you. With the lowered tuning allowed with a Tusq saddle, you get the rich overtones and sound of a far bigger instrument. Tusq is assumed to be safer than bone or ivory, as the dust is less toxic. My guitars: Larrivee D03R; Yamaha Professional LL16-12 12 string; Yamaha Professional LJ16 Jumbo; Guild GAD JF30 (maple back & sides; possibly tune up with this for a bluegrass sound). In conclusion, I would start with a Tusq saddle, and only go to bone if you have to. I received my new saddle today. It was over-sized, so you will need a sharp knife and sandpaper to whittle it down on the bottom leading edges to fit into the guitar body's slot! And it was advertised as being made of Ivory. It is not, but the quality is O.K. I fixed my Epiphone EJ200 SCE as the old saddle had warped, so thank you for this. And don't shorten the height of the new saddle! Just file v-shaped slots for the strings with a triangle file! Go slowly, keep sizing it to check the string height, and you will be good to go!!!GeralJohn
