Reviews:
I had an original 303 back in the days, but honestly this new version it’s far better. The sound is seamless, the midi integration with DAW it’s really handy, the knobs are a bit small but you can edit automation on any knob on your DAW. The latency on audio over USB makes it difficult to use it live with your DAW sequencer; even with driver compensation error you steel can’t get that perfect sync. For studio use this is perfect if you want to get than classic sound of the 303, if you’re in to electronic music this is a must have peace of gear.
Pleased with my purchase. I was born and raised in Chicago Illinois, the birthplace of House Music. I lived through the entire House Music movement in Chicago and always loved Acid House that was founded in Chicago by pioneer house music producers Dj Pierre and Spanky aka Phuture with their killer release of Acid Tracks" in 1986. I've always wanted a TB-303 but unfortunately the original is a little out of my price range at over $2500. Thank you Roland for re-releasing a classic machine for this is the next best thing in my opinion. I look forward to cranking out some acid patterns with the TB-03. Thumbs up!Roberto

Reviews:
My GR 20 is broken. I thought GR 55 a new product would be more better. I primarily use the brass and wind instruments synthesizer. The GR 20 was the best. I bought the Jamstik and attempted to connect to the Logic Pro on my IMac. It was terrible even thought Logic Pro has a great brass and wind synthesizer sampling. But the interface with Jamstik was horrible. Than I bought this GR 55, it is more complicated to use in comparing with GR 20. But the wind and brass synthesizer sampling doesn't even come close with the GR 20. After spending all that money, I went on reverb and bought another used GR 20. Now my music is alive again. I don't understand why the newer product is worse than the older model. It is shameful that Roland discontinued GR 20. GR 55 is good for those who likes to plays with different synthesizer functions. I don't need that. I just love the GR 20 sounds.Steve
I've had this unit for just over a year and can't believe how great this unit is. I saw a couple negative reviews and really don't understand where they were coming from. The default patches are really fantastic and the editing makes it a "no-limits" device. I use mine in my home studio, I like doing a lot of classic rock which includes a lot of later Beatles, Moody Blues, Eagles and the like, not into heavy metal so much but this would easily be my choice over my Zoom effects processor. The editing isn't nearly as hard as it first appears, the initial setup was actually more challenging, I have a pair of GK-3 on a Tele and a Strat as well as a Godin Multiac Nylon SA, all three have great response time but the Tele and Strat do have to be played exceptionally "clean" which isn't a bad thing and actually helps my overall playing because I am conscious of that fact. I run a separate line out from the guitar out to a Fender Mustang GT 40 (and no I do not use the speakers in the GT40 but rather run a line out from the headphones jack to my mixer) anyway the two played together present outstanding combinations and give single takes for tracks on the recorder a whole new influx of sounds. The string instruments are incredible, the violins and cellos so very realistic when combined with a "light foot" on the pedal to control start and stopping of notes played. The wind instruments sounded somewhat generic until I mastered the pedal effect, although I must say that the "breath" sounds with the flute have pushed me into some Jethro Tull that I never thought I would be able to replicate. The cons that I would mention would be with the piano patches, they sound poor but I have been tweaking with it and am getting closer to the Grand Piano sound I need, again these must be played very cleanly. The depth of editing is amazing, the reverbs, chorus, delays, panning and gain/distortion are as good as any pedal I've ever used. Great Tool and actually reasonably priced.Ken10652
The PC drivers for the GR-55GK apparently unload/uninstall after switching the device off and have to be reloaded from the Internet as far as I can make out. This takes up to 10 minutes which causes confusion when using a DAW. There is also a residual 'GR-55 unknown device' left lurking in Win 10 Device Manager. I would prefer to simply download the Win 10 drivers and install them once. Other than the driver issues the kit is working as expected but a bit of a learning curve as yet.Reviewed by guitarguitar custome

Reviews:
How odd. This review was flagged for writing Big Mu** using the two F's 🙂 For the money, this is a really hard pedal to beat. It goes from mild and laid-back to wild and intense. The controls feel great…like as in excellent quality. This is a reissue of the original Big Mu** PI. I tried a Big Mu** PI with Wicker and forget about it. It hissed so loud in Wicker mode that I couldn't even here myself think and it got even worse with the tone switch off. And even in the so-called Big Mu** PI mode, it didn't sound anywhere near as good as this Rams Head does. And, the Rams Head is quiet compared to the BM PI with Wicker. One more thing, The BM PI with Wicker does not say anywhere on it nor in the included paperwork where it's made, whereas the RH BM PI clearly says New York City on the face of it…Vincent
The tone sweep is nice and there are some interesting spots because it is linear while kind of non-linear at 10 to noon and about 1-2 on tone control. I can't say why but usually I had purchased like more expensive versions of ehx pedals. That being said, I think people need to realize that these are quite accurate reissues and circuits, and just because it is an affordable pedal doesn't mean it isn't great.
Overall: Floats like a stone and stings like a nest of angry hornets! This box has the buzzsaw sound down pat. The fuzz is a thick, smooth, and consistent. I like this kind of fuzz in particular because it’s less fuzzy and little more distortion-like. The Tone knob has a really wide sweep from boomy bass to mid-range Hades. It has plenty of gain on tap and even sounds pretty good with the guitar’s volume rolled back a skosh.I’ve never used the original Green Russian Muff and have only heard them compared through videos online, so I can’t speak as to how they’re different/alike. I got it because I didn’t want to haul my vintage Black Russian Muff around from gig to gig anymore because it’s getting valuable and since it was a pretty jenky design to begin with, it’s liable to break with heavy use. That being said, the reissue Green Russian Muff has a different sound than an original V8 Black Russian Muff. It doesn’t sound as good to me, but it’s not so different that I wouldn’t use the Green Russian live in lieu of the Black Russian for the aforementioned reasons. One huge plus for the Green Russian is its pedalboard friendly size. The Black Russian is the size of an 80s metal lunchbox and took up an awkward sized chunk of the pedalboard. Now there’s more room for other unnecessary boxes (gulp)! One noteworthy ding for this pedal is how difficult it is to see the script on the top of the pedal. The words are printed right underneath the knobs, so if it’s kinda dark (which it usually is) and the lights are all in front of you (which they usually are) the words are impossible to see. Overall it’s a nice fuzz especially for the price. It’s noisy, but once the music gets rolling you won’t even notice it.Brad

Reviews:
Great sound, full of resources, solid built. You get a lot for your bucket. However, inevitably, you will go round the bend trying to understand what Roland had in mind when the "Scene" button was placed far away from the "Part" button since they are deeply related and you need to press one before the other can do its thing. Then soon you will realise, the way you access and control sounds is utterly cumbersome. Scenes are cool, but not they way the were implemented. Then there is the tiny display and till-the-end-of-times menu diving. You will now hate the "Scene" and "Part" buttons even more, because they change the pagination in bizarre ways. Tip: Read the manual every night before bed for six months, and you will possibly get used to it. Print the chart and peg them to your bathroom mirror. Tooth brrushing "a la Jùpiterr". And talking about the desktop editor: it helps – since you enjoy searching for patches on a 5,000 items list which are not in alphabetical order, without being divided in categories nor having a “Search” tool. Come on Roland, Windows 95 is out since… 1995? Then there are the keys. Ok… Good to have them, better than nothing – but no. You can't think musically twinkling on these. A bigger display, more knobs and sliders would be a sensible swap since plugging the Xm onto a MIDI keyboard is the only way to preserve what is left of your sanity.Gilberto G.
This is a synth that is totally at the top of its game. If you want analogue modelling then this has got it, if you want a synth with all the 'bread and butter' sounds that you need for live performance then this has that too. On top of that, it looks gorgeous and really is the closest you'll get to owning a modern Jupiter 8 flagship synth and don't forget the additional models of the Juno 106, JX-8P, SH101. Add to that the JV5080 sound set and the Zenology Pro sound set. You can, of course, add additional models and sound packs from the Roland Cloud. I actually believe that, for me at least, this is *the* synth that I will own and use constantly for the rest of my life…Dean B.
This is a awesome synthesiser with sounds that are absolutely fantastic. The unit is built to last with all buttons and controllers easily accessible and assigned to meaningful tasks. The mini keyboard is great play and because of its compact size it can be taken anywhere easily. The bonuses include having a fully integrated audio interface/sound card which will play audio from a connected computer, the ability to link the synthesiser to Roland Cloud and download new patches and sounds and even new emulations of different synthesises from the past. Overall incredibly impressed, having on some of the older Roland synthesises that this can emulate it really does sound like them.Julian E.

Reviews:
If you love the Juno series, this has all of them and yes it sounds just like the old ones. Its buit tough, the action is great. Building your own sounds is very adictive, easy and once get used to the layout and menus its easy. I love all the customisable buttons and sliders on the left. The knobs and sliders are silky smooth and tough. The sounds are very lush and full, the effects are good, but not perfect, the reverb is basic, but its smooth. The delay is very nice and so is the drive. It was easy to update the firmware all you need is a thumb drive. If you want that Juno sound and dont want to risk getting an original, this will do nicely.zachary
It blows my mind how roland were able to get such an authentic JUNO-esque sound and feel out of this unit. Programming is intuitive and incredibly simple via the controls on the front panel, although deeper edits will be easier through the juno-x editor (which is free, im looking at you sequential). If you are going to menu-dive, it's not the worst I've seen, and everything is laid out simply and easy to read. The sounds this thing can produce have left me speechless time and again. The Juno-106 emulation is spot on, as well as the juno-60. The new Juno-X engine might be my favorite, and could very easily become a modern classic. This thing just sings in a way that's hard to articulate unless you're sitting down and playing it. The only negative I'd have to say regarding sound Is the onboard speakers, they're quite weak and I would've rather had roland forget the speakers and lower the price by a hundred or so bucks. The build quality is outstanding, with the only obvious plastic components being the side panels, keys, and faders (which are incredibly smooth). There is wobble on the faders, but no more than would be normal on a unit of this price. The keys are excellent, and are a breeze to play. As for how this thing compares to the originals, don't even try. I wholeheartedly believe this has made vintage 106's obsolete. As of June 2022, a vintage 106 in good condition will cost you about as much as the juno-x, and maybe even more. To me this is a no-brainer. Ignore the analog hipsters, if you want the juno build, sound, or experience, this is the way to go.Alex

Oops… Almost gave this a negative review: Watch out, the thing comes with headphones/console optimized output as factory default. So if you hook this up to an amp, first go to the System settings and change them. This makes a very big difference (from "what the.." to "wow!"). Also note that this is an analog type synth sound: Pat Metheney, John McLaughlin (80's Mahavishnu), etc. So, if you're looking for something like that, this is gold. If you're looking for real Steinway sampled sounds, etc. go for the ones with the MIDI pickup. You won't get Scott Henderson's flute-type sounds exactly (those are digital), but you will get sounds which are at least equally great (but analog). As far as John McLaughlin-type sounds, you'll be jamming all day long on this thing. The complement software (not required, but handy) works as advertised so far on a MacBook Air.Alex
I love the fullness that it adds to my sound. I love the ambience it adds to my acoustic guitar. I can not use all the samples it contains but Tone Central has bunches of usable configurations to download. A lot of the tonalities are special effects phrases that you can use to add to recordings. I run some of the calmer effects under my guitar to fatten up its tone. You know something is there but it is not overwhelming. I have had the earlier synth version pedals and they also contained the spatial sounds of a keyboard. Those are not necessarily useful for live performances. This pedal has more practical sounds to edit and gain controls of. The ambient sounds worked well for electric guitars too. Being old school I want my tone on top and not be smothered by effects. Used tastefully this pedal works live and in the studio.
Alert: As a highly experienced musician and highly experienced audio engineer, this box is deep and wide and I keep diving in! For the guitarist who wants to plug and play, this box has great sounds but you can spend less and edit less and play comfortably. The synth section is mind blowing and even conventional effects like limiters delays, reverbs, etc are rich! The SY-300 speaks to me in tongues! It's incredible. – The only thing that is missing is a stereo effects loop but it does everything else so well that it gets 5 Stars.bgl

So versatile a piece of kit offering much more opportunities to levels of performance. There are more than enough preset patches to satisfy most guitarists and then the ability to tailor them to your own taste. Lots to learn … and great fun in doing so.Reviewed by Andertons Music Co.
Many years ago I owned a Shadow Guitar Synth, which I sold a couple of years ago on YouTube for a very low price…but I guess it had a "vintage" charm! Roll the clock forward almost 30 years from that initial purchase and WOW! How the technology has come along! The Shadow had to have the pickup placed very precisely and even if it was a fraction of a millimetre out, it threw the tracking out completely. This Roland unit is truly awesome in comparison. Tracking is faultless, and it even incorporates many guitars "modelled" into the soundbanks, akin to the Variax. The only downside is that you have to drill into whatever guitar you want to fix the pickup on to, and it has to be placed pretty accurately…I've about come to the end of my patience with the temporary bluetack approach! When setup well the array of sounds form this small foot pedal is amazing, from modelled guitars to swirling strings and rasping synth lead sounds. I could never be bothered to learn to play keyboards, so this opens up a whole new universe of sound exploration I could only have ever dreamed of when I had my lame Shadow Guitar Synth Pedal.Reviewed by Andertons Music Co.

Bottom line up front: I’m blown away I’ve been playing guitar synths off and on for about 25 years. I’ve had the GR-1, 09, 20, and 33, and the VG-99. The GR-55 was always on my wish list, but it was never in the cards. With the advent of the SY-300 I was intrigued about the possibility of playing synth tones without the GK pickup and 13 pin cable. Wireless guitar synth?? Yes, please! Then Boss introduced the SY-1000. Alex Hutchings’ videos do an awesome job of showing you what it can do. But now that I’ve been able to play mine for a bit (thank you AMS for the 12 pay plan), I am truly blown away by just how powerful it is AND how easy it is to edit with the software editor. I’m inspired.Eric L
I use this product live. It has excellent emulations of other guitars, as well as sitar and banjo, so if you don't want to carry a lot of instruments, this could be the answer. As with other Boss/Roland products, it has a "clunky" interface (e.g., GR 55, GT1000), and in my view, Boss should really work on that. It takes a significant amount of time and experimentation to get usable sounds from the synths, and quite honestly, the presets are novel but mostly useless. You CAN use them as templates for your own sounds, but as I said, this takes a lot of tweaking…if you're into that sort of thing, this is your processor. Sound quality is very good, and effects are excellent. It isn't perfect, but it works, and I'm keeping mine.Old Rocker
It's like I got a bucket of assorted boss pedals. Great sounds! It's all about layering with this thing. After my second round through the interface I was moving patches editing affects programming expression pedals quite easily. With my touchscreen laptop running the PC software the editing is even easier. One of the neatest features for me was the effects send and return being able to be placed anywhere within the virtual effects chain. I can tell it's gonna take some time to really dial in the dynamic synthesizer and sequencer. Hours of fun.Joe

For studio use this is perfect if you want to get than classic sound of the 303, if you’re in to electronic music this is a must have peace of gear.

now we can really play with a Roland SH101!!!! with midi.. affordable, sound and features close to the Vintage SH101. but the analog warm sound, and the authentic feeling are not really here. in the past i had a few vintage synths, needed to be repaired/restored after years, high cost. the Roland Boutique synths and TR are really nice Affordable, easy to use, reproducing the sound and functions of their ancestors. So try the JU06, JP08, JX03, SH01a, TR09, TR08, you will be amazed, guys !freerol
Worth every penny. After a subsequent purchase of a Tr-08, I can say that the layout/design of the sh-01a is much more spacious and easy to perform with . Like all the boutiques, you have a subtle but inescapable digital "smooth" sound compared to the more lively analog equivalent, however this boutique is incredibly expressive and most importantly responsive. It's envelopes and attack are faster than my brother's Juno-106. The filter is hella resonant and sounds really, really, REALLY good for a digital filter. You can make sweeping pads, traditional basslines, get 85% of the way to a squelchy acid bassslube a la Luke vibert, or get some really lush traditional analog synth sounds. Overall it sounds 8.5 of 10 compared to the original, but it's overal sound quality is excellent regardless of its digital nature. +1 for being able to sync the LFO to clock (even if only possible when using internal clock).Sean

Reviews:
I've spent the last few days with my SE-02 and here are my thoughts: As a former owner of an original Minimoog, I can say that it definitely has the character and sound of the original. Not a one for one, but certainly close. The three oscillators, when detuned, sound HUGE. The filter is creamy and delicious. When you play the filter, there is no stepping that I can hear. Nice and smooth. The feedback is awesome and can go from slight distortion to all out ripping. The new features add so much more to the synth. The Xmod can give you sounds that were just not possible with the original. The syncable LFO is a great feature which allows you to modulate the oscillators without losing the third one. The delay is also a nice touch, which is also syncable. The size is not an issue for me, and I have huge hands (I have a 14 1/2 ring size). I find it quite easy to tweak the knobs. All in all I think this is a synth that I will hang on to as it is so much more than a Minimoog clone.Bayouland
It is small but sounds very good. It is an analog monosynth with 3 oscillator but has an electronic circuit – which enable to save the patch setting to PC editor. You can create various sounds and can download commercial level sound patch from internet. Its 16 step sequencer is a great tool for live performance. I like the best that this synth can be controlled by MIDI, USB cable. It has CV inputs for pitch and filter. I use my EWI with midi-to-cv interface, which makes SE02 very responsive to my breath control. Only limitation is that it has 1-voice polypony. This is my 3rd analog synth (microbrute, moog mother 32) and I like SE02 the best.ewi4christ
There simply is no mono synth with this pedigree with this feature set and sound. Roland and Studio Electronics really extended the design to make the SE-02 unique rather than a replica. For someone switching between sessions and on stage switching between songs, I don't have time to dial in settings. – The SE-02 with the new patch designer/librarian software makes editing and storing a breeze. – The sequencer is excellent in every possible way, especially the motion sequencing – giving life to a sequence by recording all the knob movements. – The USB audio and midi are fantastic, I get pristine audio directly into my DAW. – When I play live, I only have to bring this in a small case and a midi controller and I am ready for an entire set, playing bass or leads. – The cross modulation makes this a truly modern and vicious sounding synth. – the tape delay is hauntingly beautiful. – The bass is astounding. There is no other synth on the market this size with these features.J Cooper

Product Details:
The boutique tb-03 bassline synthesizer from roland features the classic sounds of the original tb-303 in the palm of your hand. the tb-03 retains the same layout and controls as the original but with several enhancements. utilizing roland’s analog circuit behavior (acb) technology, the unit recreates the liquid grooves of the magic silver box. the enhanced feature set includes a four-digit led display, which allows for precision sequencing, while the on-board overdrive and delay effects unleash a torrent of twisted, tribal sounds capable of sending an audience into a frenzy. roland’s analog circuit behavior you know when you hear a tb-303—a hypnotic, tribal sound that works best in dark, crowded rooms with big sound systems. using the same acb (analog circuit behavior) technology from the acclaimed aira series, the tb-03 accurately emulates the expressive, slippery sound of its older brother, and even adds a few surprises. saw and square waveforms are available, along with all of the rotary control knobs that help shape the 303’s unique character, including tuning, cutoff, resonance, envelop mod, decay, and accent features not found in the original the tb-03 includes several enhancements over the original tb-303. firstly, the four-digit led display makes programming easier and more detailed, since you now have a visual representation of the value being edited. then there are a variety of overdrive, delay, and reverb effects that dramatically change the mood and tone of the tb-03, going from smooth to spiky to squealing. programming patterns is also easier thanks to added functions that include step write, shuffle, and fine tempo control. finally, the inclusion of midi and usb ports mean that the tb-03 can send and receive control information and connect easily to computer-based daws classic tb sequencer with enhanced functions if you’re familiar with the tb-303’s programming method, then you’ll feel right at home with the tb-03. the original pitch and time write modes are included, along with an added step mode. pattern programming is also enhanced by the led display, which shows the current step in the sequence as well as showing fine tempo values (such as 125.5 bpm). the internal sequencer can be triggered externally via the trigger input, and you can even switch between write and play modes without stopping pattern playback, opening up many possibilities for live performance connect with external gear the tb-03 includes midi in/out ports and usb, allowing control information to be exchanged with other instruments and devices. this turns the tb-03 into a versatile controller, especially as you can use the cv/gate output to control external analog gear and modular synthesizers. this level of control works both ways, thanks to the trigger input that lets external gear drive the tb-03’s internal sequencer. once connected to a windows computer or mac, both audio and midi data can be sent through the usb port battery or usb bus power some of the best music is made away from the studio, so the roland boutique series runs on 4 x aa batteries, ready for when inspiration strikes. alternatively, the tb-03 can run on usb bus power usb audio interface for direct recording to your daw via its usb port, the tb-03 functions as a high-quality 24-bit/96 khz audio interface, providing a simple and reliable way of recording directly to your daw application. you can keep your favorite settings and sequencer patterns safe too via the usb data backup function upc: 761294509487

16. Roland – Tb-03 Bass Line
Product Details:

Reviews:
i bought this as a money saving utility module to accompany a Grandmother and Mother32. Low and behold, it's a massive beast all on its own. As a stand alone unit its good fun and very usable. As part of a modular rig it really shines. The Digital envelopes are super snappy and punchy, I find particularly useful when making drum or bass sounds. I would highly recommendJames M.
Pros: Super easy to get a decent sound very quickly. Solid feeling dials and sliders. Integrated with Ableton super easy. Cons: Radioactive green backlit dials that burn your retinas. I'm still looking how to switch them off. Maybe I missed something, but only 8 internal memory slots for patches seems unnecessarily limiting in a digital synth.Ben R.
Over the past six months this has become my favorite synth. While it may seem tame at first it really opens up once you get to know it. Easily my most versatile synth. The designers really knew what they were doing. Huge bass, fat brass, giant pads, analog tones, crazy noises, etc. Paired with good pedals/fx it sounds massive. My only complaint is the lighting scheme. You can disable the demo mode (which helps); but you can't turn them down.

[ SHIPPING ] I gave a four, because I ordered this brand new, got an open box, missing CD, missing manual – who knows who touched it, programmed it, dropped it?? Fortunately it has given no indication of breakage, but when you pay for an unopened, brand new item, full price, you don't expect to get a floor model. [ PRODUCT ] WOW – great sound, wish fulfillment. Super happy to add this, the USB bus is great too! Now I want more Roland Boutiques!Jack
