best guitar I've ever had. takes time to adjust to the body style but after you have any other guitar than this style it feels insufficient. the strings are close to the fret which is great if you slide up an down between frets a lot, the strings are d'addario which are kinda cheaply, but they last long and are great after you break them in a bit. I prefer playing this guitar over any epiphone or whatever. might wanna get a hardshell case if travelling, probably find a bass case cheaper than the actually case which is kinda costly.Oxide

Don't expect a custom shop handmade guitar; but for the money, this guitar kicks all kinds of tail! It plays very nicely with a very fast fretboard and thin neck. Stays in tune when abusing it with heavy pick attack. It does exactly what it looks like it was made for doing! Not to mention, it looks really cool, and plays as good as it looks! I have been playing for 25+ years, have owned many, many, many, mid-priced guitars over the years and this is definitely a big bang for the buck! Great guitar, nice smooth neck shakes for shredding and just enough thickness for a good grip, EMG pick ups sound as they should punchy and clear, Floyd rose works great but you will have to change the arm as it wiggles in the FR 1500 bridge, the design on body is by far the best, definitely a shredder guitar.kito14

My wife asked what i wanted for Christmas. My response was "you can never go wrong with a guitar." She had received a sale flyer and decided to get it for me. it is not a guitar I would typically pick out based on the style but its growing on me. When it first arrived the action was a bit high but that is an easy fix. The Fret ends were a bit sharp but nothing a file from Stew mac didn't fix. I play in a garage band the tends to be on the Metal, hard rock side and this fits the bill. At this price I don't have to worry about nicks or scratches or spilled beer.I considered swapping out the pickups but it does the job just fine and I am going to keep it as is.As with any traditional style trem don't expect to Dive bomb it and stay in tune. I myself put 2 extra strings on it and locked it down. I would recommend it to a beginner or as a drag around and don't worry guitar.Chris T

Opened it just to inspect it. It's darker than the one shown in the picture. At first I was upset, but this color is really quite nice. It's more a deep mahogany color. Black pickups and knobs. The back of the neck is a neutral light color wood. It's in perfect shape. No nicks or scratches. Can't play it yet as it's my "gift" to me from my wife. Best way I figured I could avoid an argument was to tell her that she got me my christmas gift for under $100. It looks a lot more expensive than $100 too. She was surprised at the finish of the guitar. Very happy so far…2015.monit

The guitar itself looked cool. That was what I assumed when I went to the store. Then I bought it. I was stupid to not try it at the shop. Frets buzz, some sort of hard sound comes out, and even though I keep tuning to standard, it keeps flatting itself, which forced me to keep it at Drop A. This guitar's only good for actual practice; no amps no pedals no nothing except the guitar. I definitely recommend getting something a bit better, and there are lots within this guitar's price range, some even lower priced.Zephyr

I returned this item as it is too thick and heavy in the body for my taste and makes some kind of buzzing in the wiring when playing notes. The volume knob scrapes the body when you turn it, and the strings made my fret fingers black during the testing. Fail!KingPin

Slight disclaimer: I purchased this item knowing I would immediately upgrade most of the hardware and adjust things to make it more comfortable for my playing. 1) It is a fantastic base instrument. It plays fairly well as sold. This was my first experience with a Floyd Rose Special. Also, it will definitely be my last. I played it stock for about 2 weeks to get a good feel for it before changing anything. It’s a great playing guitar. 2) Every review I saw said that the finish was amazing and pictures just couldn’t do it justice. I agree. They did a great job on the neck and body of this guitar. It’s flawless. 3) Everything was to spec on mine. Action, truss rod, intonation, fret, bridge and pickup height, all perfect. My fretboard had a somewhat excessive amount of dye on it but nothing too crazy. The nut on mine was clearly cut too deep leaving the high e in permanent sitar mode with fret buzz. So, quality control could be an issue. For my needs this wasn’t a problem as I had already decided on replacing virtually all hardware with new parts that I had on hand from a project that I decided not to restore. 4) The pickups sound great. The Dime Slime nailed the Pantera tones, not surprising. I was surprised by the classic/southern rock and soloist tones I was able to get with minor eq adjustments. Clear and warm through the drive/distortion. It does jazz and country pretty well too. It has a very balanced sound to it which I was not expecting. I’ve played it on three different amps with the same results. Great. This is a great buy. A solid guitar as is. I'm far from being a professional guitar player, but this is without question the worst electric guitar I've ever played in my life. I've got it because I'm a big Dimebag fan and wanted one of his guitars. While the guitar looks cool, the sound is just awful, just awful. Compared to another "metal" guitar that I own (a BC Rich Warlock equipped with EMG 60 and 81 PUPS), there is no comparison. The Warlock sounds good plugged or unplugged. The Dean? There is no clarity in the sound and any strummed chords sound like mud. Again, just awful. This is a low quality guitar with cheap components. I'm sure there are better Dimebag signature guitars out there and I know for a fact that there are A LOT of better quality guitars out there for a similar price point. If you are a big Pantera/Dimebag fan and want to have a cool looking piece for your collection, maybe something to hang on the wall, this guitar might work. If you are looking for a guitar to actually play? Keep looking. I wouldn't recommend this to someone jamming in their bedroom. It's far, far, far from being a stage quality guitar. This gets one out of five stars from me only because I can't give it any less than that.MetalDude13

Like the title implies-all looks and zero substance. This body style, in my opinion, is the single most aggressive, no nonsense, killer look ever designed. The head stock alone deserves one star. However, the pitiful tuners, muddy pickups, fret buzz, hit and miss paint job, and over all poor craftsmanship make it a total waste of time and money. I set this guitar up, restrung it, and polished it and even had two EMGs ready to put into it, but just couldn't bring myself to do so because there were just too many things wrong with it. Unless you want this to hang on your wall (which for maybe eighty less I would have kept it to do just that) don't waste your time. If you are new to electric guitar PLEASE do some research and buy an axe that will enhance your learning experience, not stifle it. It is extremely frustrating to try and learn on a substandard instrument you cannot rely on to stay in tune. Before you buy this guitar, ask yourself "Do I want to spend my time learning or tuning\adjusting\compensating?" 1 star for the head stock and 1 for the body design. Other than that-forget about it. I purchased a pre-owned trans black version of this guitar after wanting to add more metal-inflected riffs to my songwriting without breaking the bank. Unfortunately, the tuners had reached their useful lifetime on mine, so after months of fighting in vain to keep it in tune, I ordered a set of highly recommended "Grover" tuners to replace them. After a little drilling to get them to fit, I now LOVE this guitar!!! I also personally set the action to mirror what I had professionally witnessed being done on my original Strat-styled axe (pictured), replaced the strings with fresh Ernie Ball (Regular Slinkies), ordered a set of Xtra-Heavy pics and never looked back. Paired with my pre-owned "Metal Pedal", this guitar keeps me motivated to practice more frequently. Although I play keys in my band, this guitar helps me communicate with my guitar players what I want them to do musically in ways that I just can't illustrate with a "guitar" patch on my sound module. The tone from the dual humbuckers and sustain from the longer body style motivates me to produce heavier versions of my pop material for live performances. Even my "metal" buddies who own higher priced and much heavier guitars compliment me on choosing this guitar so I feel really good about my choice to go with Dean. The ML-XM makes me smile so much everytime a hit a power chord, I dubbed my axe, "Darth Shredder", in honor of & inspired by the imposing presence of the Star Wars character: Lord Vader! I even bought the Dean ML soft case to protect my investment. 😉RC

You can't expect any guitar at this price point to sound great. You can't expect any guitar with a bolt on neck to sound great. You can't expect any guitar with a basswood body to sound great. But this guitar is definitely worth the tiny bit I paid for it. It stays in tune, the frets don't have any sharp edges, the action is not high. It may sound better if I changed the pickups, but most guitarists like to try out different pickups, so that's not a big deal. The important thing is that this is comfortable to practice on at home, which is a big expectation for a guitar at this price pointtheLonnie

Had to file sharp fret ends and raise bridge one turn. Then it played as well as many of my other guitars. The pickup switch doesn't always make good contact and has to be jiggled – which seems to be common in this kind of toggle. The finish appears to be opaque brown stain over wood, with a flat polyurethane(?) finish. The grain is barely visible but it's there. If you end up filing the fret ends like I did, protect the rosewood fret board with tape or something and use a very fine file. Makes a good beach and party guitar – If it's damaged at this price, who cares?Uncle Willie

First off, i have to say if i say anything negative, it should be taken with a grain of salt because in its price range, this is a great guitar. Right out of the box, i found the color not matching the image, however personally i found its true color pleasing. The guitar has a comfortable feel, not overly heavy, but not cheap feeling either. The neck feels comfortable, the tuners generally stay well in tune. i like the adjustable bridge, its a nice feature. The tone control is decently dynamic. the selector is a bit sticky sometimes, and that can become annoying. Also i find that the pickups are a bit close in range so as not to give the greatest differentiation, but still, its not an expensive guitar. So all in all, i recommend this model for the price, it has a good sound and i find it pleasing. it also has a lot of potential. I made just go crazy and drop some P-90's in there, who knows. lol 🙂 great for starter, or just a base for a custom.JDubya

This guitar sounds very good with the dimebuckers, since they are pretty high output. The Floyd Rose Special is not bad, although I had to tighten the bar a lot for it to stop swinging around. I have played this guitar quite a bit and it still holds tune very well, even though I pretty regularly do squeals and dive bombs. The only problem that I have is just a visual problem, and it doesn't affect playability at all. I don't know if it had to do with all of the weather changes, since guitars don't have problems moving to harsh environments, but I notice that there were some visible cracks in the fretboard binding (not any problems with the fretboard itself). There was also a crack in the finish by the neck joint, but it is very small and hard to see. They seem to be just cracked inside the binding and not on the outside, since I can't feel the cracks. Other than those problems, I really don't have anything bad to say about the guitar other than it feels absolutely amazing if you are a dimebag Darrell fan or love Pantera. I really can't recommend this guitar enough for metal heads that need an upgrade.Joe, B

I'm not sure where to begin with this one. First of all, I bought the Classic Black one, which is quite a bit different from the white and satin black ones. This one seems to have an alder body instead of a mahogany one. The neck is maple. The fingerboard is genuine rosewood. I can tell by the smell of it. The DMT pickups in it aren't name brand and I expected them to be terrible, but they're actually great. I would compare them to the genuine Seymour Duncans I usually prefer. The bridge is simple and solid. The tuners are genuine Grovers and they hold tuning exceptionally well. The neck is a nice medium thickness and has a great satin finish on it. The fret edges are wonderfully smooth and the frets are mirror polished, making bending very easy and comfortable. The control knobs, pickup switch, and output jack are solid. The nut is cut very well and there is no string binding at all. The glossy black finish is flawless. This sounds close to an actual Fender Telecaster with the push/pull coil tap engaged. Otherwise, it's fairly close to a Charvel in full humbucker mode. I am shocked at the quality, sound, and playability of this guitar for the price I paid for it. I have guitars that were twice the price that aren't this good. If you're considering one of these, go for it. I love mine.Mandi J.

Great metal guitar. When I ordered this Dean I was already thinking of swapping out the neck pickup to some type of Duncan. Then the guitar showed up, the Dime Time neck pickup is amazing! No need to really swap it out unless you really dont like the sound of the Dean pickup. The neck profile on this Dean is a soft V. It's chunky but definitely not like an old Les Paul. It's comfy. If you do not like thick necks, this is not the guitar for you. The korean Floyd on this thing is just as good as a German floyd. Will not go out of tune, unless you set it up wrong. Do some research, its not difficult at all. The Dimebucker is a very underrated pickup. Ton's of reviews of those online and on YouTube. Look it up, you're either gonna love it or hate it. This guitar screams METAL. It's huge. When you strap this guitar on you automatically get a boost of testosterone and instantly grow a red goatee. Not for the feint of heart- get an Ibanez instead.Javier M.

I really don't have anything bad to say about this guitar. I own mostly all premium guitars and I wanted a floyd rose guitar..I picked this guitar in the shop and was very impressed. I tried a few other guitars but this guitar was just too excellent for the price. I brought it home and did a set up with 10s because that is what I like. The hardware seemed to be of good quality while working with it to set the guitar up. The pickups are pretty good too, I had a set of Bareknuckle Rebel Yells laying around…but I didn't feel the need to swap them at all. The roasted neck also feels good in the hand, it's chunky, it is NOT a wizard type neck, but it is definitely a great neck that I personally like! Overall this is a great buy! Playability, Stability and Tone….I mean that's what we want.Ernie

I tried this out at guitar center riverdale utah and holy smokes it reminded me of the Korean dean dime guitars! I own two of them so I know what I'm talking about. Tone is warm and the midrange is amazing . The floyd rose stays in tune . I did dive bombs and I had 0 problems . The only thing I noticed was the neck kind of clicked when I dived down on the bar but that's not uncommon. That happens when the nut very slightly moves and can be fixed. The action was fluid amazing. The color is neon . A very very good dean guitar .Kade

This guitar surprised me with the playability. The tone was bright and edgy in a good way for high gain. The pickups bring a lot to the table as well. There were two to choose from in the store and both were great. First off I picked up the guitar because the neck and the neck pickup….looked out of alignment…this made me take it off the rack and play it…I played it for 2 hours in store and another 2 at home….Tuning and setup stability was perfect….so I don't know what that is about….but the Guitar plays great and stays great. Don't know if they will all have this though. All in All I can say to give this guitar a try if you are looking for a Floyd Rose guitar. I'm glad I did.Ernie

Overall: I just Bought this guitar from zZounds Feb 2020. I ordered it one afternoon it was here early the next afternoon. I took it out of the box, unlocked the nut, tuned the guitar, locked the tuners, fine tuned, and did a 4 hr gig covering multiple styles! It was perfectly set up and ready to go 🙂 The 12 inch radius is exactly what I need. I can’t play 14 or 16 inch radius necks. The more I play it the more I love it! The neck and middle position are strat like and the bridge position Rips! Great clarity in the pickups. The ONLY problem is the fret edges. They don’t roll/file the fret edges so you’ll have to have that done like I am. It’s a machine otherwiseMichael

Dean guitars are excellent. I've owned 2. Anyway, i would like to shred on this one for 6 hours minimum. But seriously, even though the guitar is beautiful and hopefully easily playable, coming with a CASE or not would be a decision breaker.. Thank you.. TomKThomas

Absolutely a great guitar the width of the fretboard and radius is amazing especially paired with the satin finish neck' the A 500 coil pot is amazing and the pickups are on the money. Shouldering and playing the guitar is a charm and it finds you as an instrument verses you having to continually set up and never being satisfied. Easy to upgrade although I don't see why it would be necessary unless you want a coil splitter. The pickups are good enough to get any chime you want with EQ, and peddle adjustment's. Ebony fretboard is very solid' as I just can't say enough about the neck size as it's perfectly on the money' and last but not least,you can leave your old TUNING issues in their cases because your dean will straight up stay in tune' I run d addario 120 9/42's and play for hours and stay in perfect tune. That's hard to find in an budget super strat. You want be disappointed with this guitar' wether your an living room picker or an actively gigging musician this guitar is money well spent.Henry

Nothing wrong with the craftsmanship but needed a bit of tweaking out of the box. Once it's set up, it feels sounds and plays great. Excellent guitar if your looking for a 7 string that is in a class above the bottom of the line 7s under 300 bucks.MetalTeK

I returned this item as it is too thick and heavy in the body for my taste and makes some kind of buzzing in the wiring when playing notes. The volume knob scrapes the body when you turn it, and the strings made my fret fingers black during the testing. Fail!KingPin

This a is beefy guitar. Very heavy compared to most tele style guitars. Amazing tone, the bridge pick up screams!!! Neck pick up ok , when you want to dial it back down… Nice floyd rose, stays in tune! Set up out of the box was spot on, only need to change strings.Adam
