I'm a senior citizen jammer, having played guitar ever since Peter, Paul & Mary were young. These guitar strings have been my favorites for many years. Recently I tried some others, simply because I wasn't in an area where these were sold. I noticed the difference right away, and so did my fingers! Fat Sound, my local dealer stack up these exclusively over the 80/20 because they sound so good. They are luthiers I trusted for many years for advise. If you want get add some boldness to your acoustic guitar, try one of these. They are probably the best sounding acoustic guitar strings from Elixir. I tried these briefly on my Taylor DN3. It came equiped with Elixir Nanoweb 80/20. When it was time to stock some replacements, my local dealer had only the Elixir Nanoweb Phosphore Bronze and argued that they sounded better on Taylor guitar because they have warmer tone. It turned out they have a great tone and are very lound and very well projecting, but unfortunately, the tension is much higher then the Elixir Nanoweb 80/20 of the same gauge, and it made my studio guitar sound like a folk guitar. Sincde I did not want to mess with the near prefect factory setup of the DN3, and I prefered the Studio tone of the 80/20 over the Folk tone of the Phosphore Bronze, I decided to go back to the 80/20. But that doesn't mean they are not good strings. They are in fact better sounding in many ways then the 80/20, but I the 80/20 just suites my taste better with this specific Taylor DN3. The Phosphore Bronze strings have huge and clear mids, and a lot of high mid harmonics. Yes they have much more tension then the 80/20, and would probably require neck adjustement when switching from 80/20 to these, but the bold and forward folk/blues tone pays back for that small sacrifice. They have much more harmonics then the 80/20, and the high E string is not too bright. The first thing I noticed with these strings was the fact that the High E string was not lean, but rather fat and well defined. . However, compared with the 80/20, the lows are a bit overwelmed by the bold mids. Which is not bad at all, it's just that my DN3 has a clean and well defined low end with the 80/20, which is not as noticeable with the Phosphore Bronze. My next guitar will probably be more for Folk and will have these strings.Pierre-BJnej
Put these on a bright, shimmering guitar that had old strings maybe a year or more and put on these Elixir Nano supposed upgrade by suggestions at my local guitar center and immediately took them off an put the old strings back on! These are dull, muffled sounding dead resonance producing strings. They SUCKED compared to old di Addario strings? Waste of time and money. After having heard good things about these strings I had been looking for some for a while but couldn't find them at a reasonable price, until now. And I have to say, they are even better than I expected. The tone is brilliant – loud and full, with heavy lows and clean, crisp highs just what I wanted. I tend to use a lot of alternate tunings, which can be a bit of a pain with some strings that fall out of tune with every pluck or strum, but not these. They are easy to tune and once there, they stay in tune really well. I've used almost every variety of strings over the years and would usually choose one of the expensive coated types, simply for the longevity, but sometimes that means having to compromise on the sound quality. I've only had these on a week or so, so obviously can't rate the longevity of them, but in terms of every other characteristic I reckon these stand up to any of the more expensive brands, and actually surpass most! Certainly one of the best I've used. I will definitely be buying them again. Would highly recommend.James T.

Used to use the Zakk Wylde lo-string set exclusively, but I tune to B standard and the high strings were too floppy. So I went on the hunt for baritone strings. I've tried all the baritone sets and this is by far the best. The gauges are perfect and elixir strings stay bright & resonant– I've yet to break a string! I wanted to try these on my newest guitar (Martin Jr E) as I had liked them on my previous Takemine F cutaway. They are nice, have a good tone but for some reason, I find the fretboard noise greater on these Bronze strings. I will probably wind going to different strings on this guitar, but I want to try as many as is possible. In the end, I've so far found the Martin light 12 SP strings most suited to this size guitar. In this case, it's probably a mixture of my less than perfect right-hand technique and the composition of the strings. Flat picking, these strings really work well for me.Not as fast Eddie
Guitar strings are a subjective thing, and it comes down to the users preference, so note that my take on these is based on my preference and not an indication of the quality of the product. I bought these because I had heard many good things about Elixirs, but as I suspected the difference between coated/uncoated strings is not a positive one for me. These are labeled as being "slick & fast," but I find that they do just the opposite for me – the coating actually stops my fingers from sliding across the strings. The tone seems OK – I like a "duller" tone, as opposed to that bright, metallic new string sound – these are "warm" as labeled, but I'm still not really impressed with the tone they impart on my Martin D-28. I think I'm better off with the Martin strings that came on it. But again, this is just my preference, and the only way to really tell is to buy a pair and try them out. It's an inexpensive way to experiment with the tone/feel of your guitar.Steven

It came with the standard DGBE strings, but I knew that I would want to restring the Bari with GCEA strings since I am a novice. These strings in the review are described as being GCEA LOW tune. I thought that that meant the string set would have a LOW-G string, but no; it does not. This GCEA LOW tune set comes with a High-G string. So be aware of that. What I did was reuse the low-G string that originally came with the Rogue Bari Uke (DGBE). It's working out okay. However the original DGBE string set that came with the Rogue Bari was very cheap. (This might not be the case for you if you purchase a more expensive Bari.) I have low-G strings on my tenor, concert and pineapple. I love the sound of the Low-G. Those LOW-Gs are from a better quality maker of strings. (I have a high-g string on my Concert Flea.)RLO

Banjo players will be familiar with metal strings, but some may not have tried non-metal, however these are only suitable for particular banjos – mainly the 'old time' or 'classic(al)' types. That being said, these have transformed the sound of my 100+ year-old Clifford Essex open back banjo which now produces a very mellow, haunting sound without the high jangly overtones. If that is what you are looking for, give these a try. Fitting is not as straightforward as off-the-peg loop end metal strings. There are no ready made loops but I found that classical guitar style whipping knots work fine. Also being non-metallic, these strings take a while to stretch and stay in key, but that is just a natural feature of the material. These strings do what they say but I didn't like the overall tone and tension. the thickness of the strings was too much. The Low E got very clunky sounding. Almost like an acoustic bass would sound. the tension was too high as well for my 25.5 scale length acoustic! I tried the heavy gauge EJ18 Ddarrio makes but they were too slinky for a baritone tuning. I wish they made an in between gauge. They don't. Trust me I looked. If you want a baritone tuning buy a guitar with a longer scale length. I like alvarezs baritone guitars personallyMatt W

Baritone strings are different depending on the guitar type and uses. My type is a “27 scale and is setup for a more down tuned sound rather than a classic”spaghetti western”baritone. These strings make my baritone play closer to a regular electric guitar without the extra slack from down tuning. Good string life to them as well!

The new nylgut is the first product developed and patented by aquila. the new nylgut is nor common nylon or carbon (flurocarbon fishing line or pvdf), or a mix of them. it is a plastic compound of three different components. compared to nylon, the new nylgut produces a better sound and stays in tune better, this because the moisture absorption is less than 0.1% against the 2.0% of nylon normally employed for the musical strings (i.e. du pont tynex polyamide 6-12). due to the higher density, similar to that of pure gut (1.30 gr/cm3), the new nylgut produces a better sound than nylon and it is not so metallic like those of the so-called 'carbon' (fluorocarbon) pvdf strings. in other words, the new nylgut is probably the first genuine synthetic gut in the world. features: a better sound than nylon or pvdf, similar to the genuine gut strings. a more accurate fret-intonation due to the well gauged material. a very stable intonation under moisture changes.

I've succumbed to "ukulele fever," and wanted to try out a Baritone ukulele; so, I decided to purchase the Rogue Baritone. It came with the standard DGBE strings, but I knew that I would want to restring the Bari with GCEA strings since I am a novice. These strings in the review are described as being GCEA LOW tune. I thought that that meant the string set would have a LOW-G string, but no; it does not. This GCEA LOW tune set comes with a High-G string. So be aware of that. What I did was reuse the low-G string that originally came with the Rogue Bari Uke (DGBE). It's working out okay. However the original DGBE string set that came with the Rogue Bari was very cheap. (This might not be the case for you if you purchase a more expensive Bari.) I have low-G strings on my tenor, concert and pineapple. I love the sound of the Low-G. Those LOW-Gs are from a better quality maker of strings. (I have a high-g string on my Concert Flea.)RLO
This is a very specialist item. Banjo players will be familiar with metal strings, but some may not have tried non-metal, however these are only suitable for particular banjos – mainly the 'old time' or 'classic(al)' types. That being said, these have transformed the sound of my 100+ year-old Clifford Essex open back banjo which now produces a very mellow, haunting sound without the high jangly overtones. If that is what you are looking for, give these a try. Fitting is not as straightforward as off-the-peg loop end metal strings. There are no ready made loops but I found that classical guitar style whipping knots work fine. Also being non-metallic, these strings take a while to stretch and stay in key, but that is just a natural feature of the material. All in all I really like the final result and tonality, but this is very much a personal preference.gilescoker

Our sets are made using innovative materials, discovered and perfected in our laboratory after a long period of research and after being thoroughly tested, thus giving rise to a new synthetic product of high technology. attention just like gut, the new nylgut is liable to suffer from cutting edges. before stringing the instrument do make sure the nut and bridge are free from sharp edges and the nut grooves not too deep and perfectly smooth. you can get rid of sharp edges with very fine grit sandpaper (600, for example) or the finest steelwool (000). important the best sound quality develops when the strings have completely set, which may ordinarily take sometime. to achieve a stable intonation in just a few minutes you can repeatedly pinch each string at midlength with your fingers, pull it decidedly sideways and tune it up again. stop when the string does not pull out of tune anymore.

This is the set I use exclusively now. I was always bothered by the G-string on my electric guitars but not my acoustic….the difference, wound G. I have heard it described as that, the G string is a perfect storm of size, frequency and tension so, it causes microphonic problems. The wound G is an almost complete solution to this inherent problem with electric guitars. It probably wouldn't suit you if your style is a lot of monophonic, bendy, blues leads but, almost any other style is fine. And, of course, D'Addario is the choice for quality and price. Give a set a try…you might like it…they make 11's also.kevoinidaho
I have always hated the transition from picking out or making chords from the lower strings to the higher strings. You just hit that "G" string and it is really a noticeable tonal difference especially when recording. The wound "G" in this set eliminates that. I have read that all guitar string sets used to have a wound "G" string and while I understand some theories as to why that was changed to my ears I will never understand why. This set of strings is smooth and makes transitional sweeps across the fret board sound much more even. I find no real loss in tension when bending the "G" string at all as some have theorized as to why many guitarists don't like a wound "G" string. I say it's a theory that doesn't hold for me. Once you stretch these out a bit they hold tune great. They last a good amount of time if you wipe them after you play. The tone is even and full. I tried these out about 4 years ago and I will never go back to an unwound "G" string. These are simply great strings!cray54dog

The Mitchell Bari Uke I just purchased arrived with a bad D string, (the knot had pulled out and was too short to retie). I notified MF by email and they sent me a set of EJ87Bs. I switched the D & G strings and the E & B strings and tuned it to GCEA. It sounds great. Like a Ukelele, Guitar hybrid. A Uketar…Guitlele? It has a very fundamental tone, good for mahogany guitars. But on rosewood guitars, it may kill off the overtones, which may not be right for some people. Recommended on larger guitars rather than small ones. They do last quite a long time, which helps justify the high price to an extent.J A.
recently asked curt mangan to make me up a custom set of round core monel strings in 12 string configuration. What a great set of strings. I loved monel strings on my maple bodied guitars. But when i saw they had round core available i ordered a set of 6 string strings. They were so good ,i asked about a 12 string set. They dont offer them as of yet, but rep. said they could make me up a set. i askedfor 10- 48,s round core monels, …What a great set of strings. My guild F 412 has always been a stunner tone wise with monel strings. But the round core monels enhanced that 5 x,s .. Btw, ive got over 26 hours of playing on the 6 string set. and no noticeable fall off .Dave Gover
I put these on my Gibson J-55 and man what a difference over the phosphor bronze that came stock. I have yet to put them on my '29/'31 L3 or Custom Shop martin 0018, but I really adore the sound on my J-55. The J-55 has an Adirondack top, mahogany back/sides and is essentially a Gibson version of a Martin D-18 without the super boomy low end. I love these strings and they really bring out the natural woody tone of the guitar, which is how it should be in my opinion. After using these I really like the sound, and in a weird way I'm closer to that guitar than I ever was before, the phosphor bronze that were on the guitar were just too bright and metallic, I prefer the natural earthy tones. I put this guitar in different tunings and these strings really open it up there and in standard tuning as well. I can't wait to put these on my Martin 000, I just got it so the strings on it are fresh but they're 80/20s and I really don't like them. You can't go wrong with these strings. I'm going to be using them on my acoustics forever. Just vintage, natural, woody earthy tones and I couldn't be happier!Antonio
