3. Lr Baggs Ibeam Active Acoustic Guitar Pickup System
Product Details:
The ibeam s mipa award-winning design employs a matched pair of virtually weightless film sensors that flex with the soundboard to trace your guitar s voice much like diaphragms in a stereo mic. a key advantage over typical bridge plate sensors is the ibeam s cardioid like response pattern that inhibits feedback and string squeak while selectively admitting rich tone-producing vibrations. weighing less than 1/3 of an ounce, the pickup will not alter the guitar s natural acoustics and easily mounts to the bridge plate with peel-and-stick adhesive. the ibeam active pairs the ibeam with an all-discrete class a endpin preamp with soundhole volume control. the sweet and ultra-quiet audiophile-grade preamp faithfully amplifies every nuance of the pickup. superior sound and performance is built in for easy plug-and-play performance. an auxiliary passive channel is also available for adding a secondary pickup. the ibeam active is also great for direct studio or home recording. comparison tests have demonstrated that the fidelity of this system is a great alternative to studio microphones.

Reviews:
I have heard no after market pickup that more faithfully reproduces the tone of an acoustic guitar. Easy install, comes with jig and extra adhesive strips in case you (or your friend), oh I don't know, drop your guitar on the concrete floor of a Masaai church in Kenya and have to send your guitar back to the states for repair, but want to put the pickup into a cheap yahama for the time being. Baggs even sent me and extra jig and adhesives, in Kenya, to install it. And it makes the Yamaha sound very good, even though it doesn't even really sound that good acoustically! An amazing pickup that I will use as long as they are still in production! Easy to use, easy to install, virtually indestructible, lightweight and invisible. Outstanding quality and design. I bought mine years ago. The current price is very agreeable and worth every penny if you really care about tone, even if you have a mediocre guitar to install it in!prof69strat
After considerable research I had a Baggs iBeam active installed in my Martin D28 – I'd found the D28 recorded well with a mic, but tended to be boomy when mic'd for live sound reinforcement. An experienced Martin guitar tech installed it for me. I've tried it straight into a mixing board and through a Genz-Benz Shen Pro-LT. It sounds oh so very natural, and gets all the gain I need. It really shines for finger-style. It may not be a good choice in loud environments, as it would probably feedback, but in such situations tonal subtlety is usually less important. It was also important that it was both visually unobtrusive and physically non-invasive. That way it can be replaced – the D28 is likely to outlive the useful life of any pickup system. I am picky about sound quality and am quite happy…price was reasonable too.Return2Normal
Sound: Installed it in a Composite Acoustics Legacy/Dreadnought guitar. The sound is very natural. A lot easier to install. Like one other person said here it is real boomy at your regular settings. I had to back the bass off on my amp. It is real microphone sounding as thats probably what it is. Thus it is feedback prone if you are sitting in front of your speakers. It did well in a solo performance. Not sure how well it will do in a setting where volume is needed. But I would just use a different guitar. I do like it a lot. Features: Has a volume wheel you stick inside the sound hole out of sight. Ease of Use: With the installation jig that comes with it you can position the pickup exactly under the saddle perfectly. I really did not want to get into drilling holes under the saddle for the pickup wires, soldering wires, and sanding down the saddle. Installation is a snap. The Wow Factor: A pretty girl came up and said my guitar sounded real nice.

Real sound , no Frills just the Guitars original tone .savmandundee
Hands down! The best sound for an acoustic. I was looking for something that I could hear each string with the same balance. And this pickup was perfect! You dont hear more of one string or less of one. Every string has the same volume and tone. And in the clean channel with no eq, it has natural low end!performanceautoglassandtint
This pickup works great. It's easy to install yourself if you're brave. It took me about an hour. I recommend several pieces of tape over the end pin hole before you drill the guitar, this helps prevent chipping the finish, I also recommend access to a good belt sander to get the bridge sanded down just right to compensate for the pickup underneath it. I use this pickup with an LR Baggs ParaDI and I always get a great sound with them.ToddAllenHooper

6. Graph Tech Pq-9272-C0 Tusq Acoustic Compensated Saddle
Product Details:
The pq-9272-c0 is a great option to replace or upgrade the saddle on your acoustic guitar. it is a very popular saddle and fits most fender acoustics and several other guitars using a 72 x 3 mm saddle. tusq delivers a rich tone, crystal clear bell like high end with big open lows and a significant increase in harmonic content and harmonic sustain. increase harmonics equals more richness and character in your tone. its the difference between a four piece choir and a twelve piece choir singing every time your play a note.

Reviews:
In graphtech's website it says that this is the perfect size for Fender acoustic guitars, but it was about 3 millimeters too short in length. My fault though for not double checking before ordering. I didn't have another one so I installed it anyway. The difference in sound is amazing, I love tusq nuts and saddles. Although I might have to change it in the future to a longer one since its very easy to remove with the strings off.faustbaltaza-0
I fitted one of these bridge saddles and I think it was worth spending the extra on a saddle made of a material that improves transmission of string vibrations, I also replaced the strings which arguably would account for some of the improvement but I am pleased with the purchase.Martin K.

This enhances the Graphtech Ghost bridge I installed. Installation was relatively simple since all the wiring is modular and plugs into the pre amp. Minimal soldering was required for the jack and switches. There are a lot of wires so the electronic cavity in my guitar is full but I did not have to enlarge it or modify the cavity.Martin
Absolutely the best acoustic guitar sound from any electric guitar hands down. I've tried and owned aftermarket piezo systems and OEM piezo equipped guitars, the ghost just has that nature sound. It reacts like a "plugged in" acoustic guitar. Soft passages are smooth and even, all the strings have equal output, something the other systems did not have. Step into it and the Ghost just gets dynamic, no piezo "quack" or unnatural thin, sharp distorted tones. Add the fact that string breakage becomes a thing of the past, will pay for its self inside a couple of months. Once you've been able to play a cool acoustic intro, then light into the electric chorus, you'll never go back!Anonymous

Overall: I installed this item on my guitar and plugged it in. Immediately, there was a bunch of static. I traced it to the jack on the bottom of the unit where the line from the input jack plugged in. I can't move my guitar without the noise. The pickup is unusable, and zZounds refuses to allow me to return the unit. I am very disappointed in both the Acoustifex Go and zZounds.Jim
The effects are awesome! And they sound amazing unplugged! Couldn't be happier with the purchase.Brandon
I was debating whether to buy a new acoustic electric guitar. But I love my yamaha acoustic and only wished it was acoustic electric. I was going to buy a cheap pickup and I decided to invest in this pickup. I feel it was worth the money. I've been recommending it to my buddies and can't wait to show it off to family when this pandemic is overSalTheBeardedBrewer

Reviews:
Graphtech has made installation of the preamp kit as easy as possible. Everything came with pin connectors attached to all of the leads and clear instructions. I was using a different output jack than the one that came with the kit, and their instructions covered that change as well. All that was left was connecting the mag pickup volume output to the Acousti-phonic lead and that was that. Just make sure you have room in your control cavity for all of the wires. As you can see in the attached photo. Mine was a tight squeeze.John D.
I rebuilt an Epi Dot installing this system, I run my acoustic sounds out to an acoustic preamp and my electric sounds out to my guitar amp, and it's very very cool. Finally got the guitar sound in my head. If your a strummer like me and an acoustic alone don't do it for you, and neither does an electric, get a semi hollow and install one of these. You'll love it. Put your electric guitar amp on one side of the drums and your acoustic amp on the other and take over the whole rhythm section. Very cool switching between acoustic electric and both. The mid dark switch almost sounds like a phase switch.nobody special
Excellent isn't the word for the ghost system far better. Thanksld212666

Reviews:
Very well made and well cut, and was shipped in a timely manner. My one gripe is that the saddle cavity in the bridge on my guitar was a good deal smaller than the saddle I received, so I had to sand and shape part of it myself. That's probably more on me, but hopefully this helps warn someone to make sure they buy the right size for their guitar.aimohr-0
I got this to replace the plastic saddle on a Takamine G Series. (GS430S) I ordered it 1mm shorter than the original to lower the action a bit, and it was perfect. It dropped right in, no adjustments necessary. I also replaced the plastic nut with bone. It noticeably improved the sound and sustain. It's a cheap way to make an affordable guitar sound better.palpatine1

I really can't find any cons. This little device is just so easy to set up and install. Plug it into either an acoustic amp or into an electric guitar amp., the results are unbelievably good. I'm running it through a Boss GT1 Effects Processor and into a Fender Mustang amp and it is just superb. I highly recommend this pickup to any acoustic owners who would like to broaden the capabilities of their guitar.polish4me.0184
It sounds pretty good but the output is a little weak for me. No volume/output power control. I also recently bought the De'Armond sound hole pup. I think I like that better—but this is still pretty good. The output was a little weak to drive an old Peavey 20 amp—but the body of the guitar is also smaller than the other guitar that I put the DeArmond pup on. The Gretsch name kind of beckoned to me knowing how wonderful the big jazz box Gretsch guitars sound. I didn't quite live up to what I expected—but again I installed it on a smallish guitar and it still sound pretty darned good. It should have a volume/output control.rbro1081

I just fitted this to my guitarist it was bellying . The JLD bracket is a excellent fix and doesnt interfere with the integrity of the guitar once fitted you cant tell its has been worked on. A little fiddly if you are not used to DIY but relatively easy to fit if you follow the instructions . Plus checkout YouTube as there are videos to show you how to fit the bracket.dje1111david
I purchased a tatty second hand thing as my first acoustic guitar for an evening class. On comparing it to the other guitars in the class I realised it was quiet with terrible action. It turns out the top was badly warped. So purchased and fitted the JLD Bridge Doctor, following the instructions as best as possible. Straight away the guitar played better and sounded both sweeter and louder. Good result! I then went away for a few days. On my return the guitar sounded awful, like something had fallen off inside! It was just the wood settling in. I adjusted the bridge doctor to take up the slack and all was good again. The one issue was that the drill and allen key sizes required are all Imperial which forced me to improvise a bit here in metric Europe. So overall very good product that saved a guitar from the rubbish tip.roli4414
These are great for a simple fix to minor belly bow in guitars. They also enhance the tone somewhat to give a good resonance sound for the avid player who want's a little extra bonus with their performance. Breedlove uses them in their new models with thin sound boards to keep the bridge from bowing. Try one and you'll be pleased.davidjared803

Reviews:
Just after Christmas 2012 I had this installed in my Epiphone EJ200. I usually obsess over things like this for a while, reading review after review of the choices and looking at vids on YouTube. Finally I pulled the trigger on this one, and I must say it's pretty darn impressive. It gives a really really close to true acoustic sound, but where it totally shines is when you throw in a bit of chorus or some other effect. Five minutes ago I was playing along with some bluesy backing tracks through a Vox AD30VT modeling amp. I dialed in a nice jazzy tone, added some delay and I am VERY happy with the sound. I had expected the original batteries to have fizzled by now, but 11 months and hundreds of hours later, they are still good. I do need to mention that they had the price for the passive pickup on the stack of these active ones, which we discovered after it was in my guitar, so I got the deal of the year! Pay the extra, it will be worth it spread out over the years.warren foil
I have had an Epiphone EJ200 for a few years now, great guitar, great sound BUT the Shadow e-sonic pickups were not. The under-saddle became very noisy and finally gave up. The neck pickup became noisy and pretty much unusable. Stripped the lot out and fitted this single humbucker, easy to fit and sounds superb.Reviewed by Andertons Music Co.
Been looking for a pick up to amplify my Gibson J45. Love the natural sound of that guitar and wanted something that would stay true to the acoustic tone. Tried the rare earth HB after reading the other reviews and was not disappointed. Absolutely great pu. Keeps as true to the natural sound as anything I've heard. I actually like this better than the factory expression system in my Taylor and I thought that was really good until I heard the Fishman. It's dead quiet too. No hum or feedback due to the humbucking features. You get volume control only with this but I prefer to use the amp to control everything else anyway, so no down side for me as is. I knew the minute I heard this, it was going to stay with the Gibson for good, so I permanently mounted it. Very easy to do if you're handy with tools but not for the faint of heart. You will need to drill out the end pin hole on your guitar to accommodate the end jack and will also need to shorten the lead that's supplied and do some soldering. Take it to a professional if any of this makes you nervous. Was so thrilled, I bought a second one within a week for another acoustic I have and permanently mounted that one too. Just be sure to leave enough lead wire slack to allow you to take the pu out of the hole for battery changes. I highly recommend this to anyone looking to amplify a straight acoustic and wants to stay as true to its original tone as possible.
14. Tusq Pq-9276-C0 3 Inch Compensated Acoustic Saddle
Product Details:
The graph tech pq-9276-c0 is a great option to replace or upgrade the saddle on your acoustic guitar. it is 3 inch long and compensated to help improve the playability of your guitar. tusq nuts and saddles have rich tone without the inconsistency found in ivory, bone and other natural materials. bone and ivory have hard and soft spots (grain) throughout each piece, hampering consistent transfer of vibrations to the guitar top. tusq nuts, saddles and bridge pins are designed to transfer the right frequencies more efficiently from the string to the guitar body.

Gives my guitar a new tone which was what I hoped it would do. Very nice saddle.Tom B.
I got this graph tech saddle for a lower end epiphone acoustic guitar model ( PR-150 ). i did not expect very much more out of this cheaper guitar, but after the saddle was put in place this epiphone sounded louder much brighter and projected and held the tone twice as long than before. the saddle was a bit to long, a little wider and also just a bit higher but not to much sanding was needed. It only took about 20 minutes to sand by hand to install this graph tech saddle. made a bigger difference than what i thought. I love these saddle,s. Trying to put one on every guitar i own. so if you have a cheaper guitar or maybe a more expensive guitar that came with a plastic saddle try a graph tech you will be glad you did. hope this help,s in your decision.livehere8
15. Tc Electronic Bodyrez Acoustic Pickup Enhancer
Product Details:
This is the tc electronic bodyrez acoustic pickup enhancer. it adds a significant amount of bass and "body" resonance to acoustic guitars when they are plugged in with their electric pickups. the challenge with electric-acoustics has always been that you lose a significant amount of bass and resonance when you choose to plug it in versus mic'ing it like you would a standard acoustic guitar setup. this pedal adds back those missing frequencies in the simplest way possible. one knob, tune it to taste and you sound amazing again.

Guitars used: A Martin with minimal electronics, the tone does nothing. Another with LR Baggs more of everything. I have an EQ pedal an Compressor on my acoustic board to begin with. I was interested to see if this pedal basically did the same thing. After switching on and off comparisons I ended up keeping the Rez and taking off my EQ pedal. I could not duplicate what the Rez does with my EQ and Comp pedals. I did back my compressor way down to very light. I could have done without it but I like it. The Rez does kill feedback nicely even when I was sitting directly in front of my amp doing the tests. I got feedback with the pedals when pushing the bass and mids trying to match it but none with the Rez. After running through a bunch of my songs I really liked the new sound and picking dynamics. If you are not a pedal person this is the only pedal you will need at gigs and open mics. It does come with a 9v power supply. Nothing for instructions. It has one dial you turn it till you like it.AZ PICKER
I play a Taylor, and even the Expression System can use some help when you are in a live situation, playing through a PA. Many of the other "preamp" type options out there are great, but cost 200 – 300. This box warms up the sound, adds some compression, and just sounds fantastic! Dead simple to use, as it has one adjustment knob. Footswitch turns the unit off/on, but with a hold can mute the signal for guitar changes. Also has the ability to switch the phase in order to get rid of low-end feedback in some situations. Bottom line, the Body Rez is just another example of the innovative folks at TC Electronics. Love this pedal, and it has earned a spot on my pedalboard!Austin Steve

Reviews:
They said the MojoTone Quiet Coil NC-1 Acoustic Soundhole Pickup sounds natural. I was very surprised to find that it really sounds great. I do not detect that typical soundhole pickup "electric guitar" sound. Very feedback resistant as well. It looks good for what it is also. I like it so much that I decided on a permanent installation on my 000-15SM. Highly recomended. Would I record with it? Probably not on solo guitar, or maybe mixed with mic signal…but in a group setting, yes
Overall: I play regular acoustic gigs, and for the past 10+ years I've used an LR Baggs M1 Active. It's a great pickup. But recently I've been been playing more lead parts than usual, and I found the Baggs to be a little lacking somehow…just not as responsive and balanced as I'd like. I tried several preamp pedals to compensate, but wasn't really happy. On a whim, I decided to try the Mojotone NC-1. Holy cow! It was night and day difference. I mean a HUGE difference. Compared to the Baggs, the NC-1 just sounds bigger, more realistic, more alive and more balanced. It makes the Baggs sound like a piezo in comparison. There is so much more of the sonic spectrum covered. It's absolutely huge and rich. I'll be buying a second one shortly for my other acoustic.
Overall: I put this in my Martin HD-28 and it sounds very much like my guitar. It's really sensitive and I can hear when I tap the top or pickup coming through which I guess is part of the natural tone. I was worried about feedback but cranked through my Bose L1 it was completely silent with absolutely no feedback. This replaced an M-80 because it was unusable at high volumes with feedback and didn't sound nearly as good. I'm very happy with this purchase!
