I bought these along with the 12ax7 Tung Sol preamp for my Fender Super Champ x2 head( came with Groove tubes). I play three guitars through the head An Ovation acoustic Electric, on the clean channel. An Epiphone Dot Studio and a Les Paul mostly through Channel 2. The results are outstanding. Each guitar has its own character, however the top end is more pronounced, the Dot and Les Paul now have the "old school" chime without sacrificing the mid and bottom. The Ovation is cleaner but with some low end enhancement. Great Tubes. If you want to bring your Champ, Princeton or Deluxe Reverb to life these are the tubes. My one amp is a Vintage Sound, Vintage 15 hand wired "Princeton clone" using a 5Y3 J.J. rectifier. I've tried TAD's, J.J.'s and Tungsol's. I've now been using Tungsol 6V6's for 10 years with no desire to try anything else. Hands down I found that the Tungsol's give me the "sound and the feel" that I've been looking for. Years ago, when they first came out there was a "quality problem" with them, hit or miss, some of them didn't last too long. But that problem has been solved for quite a while now and I easily get 2+ years out of a pair of them with no problems at all. (4-6 hrs. a week @ medium-to-medium low volume) To me they're "the perfect match" power tubes for my amp.Bob
I replaced the original power tube in my VHT Special 6 Ultra with this tube, and wow! It breaks up much later allowing me to play the amp at full volume with brilliant definition and clarity. At the top, the distort cleanly and smoothly, musically and beautifully. It is also more quiet than the original tube, louder, but has still preserved the sound of the amp. Its just made it more-better! On another note, there were packaged just like the two preamp tubes I ordered were, thrown in the bottom of a small box, packing paper squeezed in on top of the, and the box sealed. They arrived one intact (currently in my amp of course), and one broken by some impact during shipping. I emailed the GC customer service about this when the preamp tubes arrived and got no reply. This could have easily been avoided by taking 3-5 seconds to wrap the tubes in the packing paper. I have not written their customer service department about this since my last attempt to communicate with them was ignored, so I feel that it would be pointless to do so. I will continue to do business with GC, but will never order anything from them that must be shipped to me. Anything delivered to the store will be inspected and/or tested before I leave the store with it.

Comparing new production tubes to old is a bit absurd, unless thats going to be your universal standard. Too much of the insdutrial sources for grid and plate material has gone away.The New sensor tubes from Russia are getting better and closer though. New Sensor is an American owned company with American engineers working in tube developement. My overall Favorite 6V6 is the CBS/Hytron 6V6GT, and the 6V6EH is an extremly close copy. SNAKEBITE, I think your problem started with rebiasing your amp. I'm not sure what the Plate Voltage on your amp is, I think it's close to 410V. Most amps running 6V6's the bias should be around 19 to 23 mA. I think what you did was over stress the B- plates its no wonder the tubes are failing. Infact I'm supprised either tube is still working. A true testiment to their quality. Please rebias you amp closer to factory specs and then try again. You wrote…. I work on a lot of amps, most are vintage or reissue Fender amps. I find these tubes are pretty good, matched didn't seem to be a big issue, most come pretty close to the same specs. for current draw, so once you have the amp properly biased you probably shouldn't have to worry when changing tubes again. To the guy who pushed the bias to 40 mA on his Super Champ, you didn't need to do that. What was the plate voltage? I'm thinking something closer to 29 to 32 mA would be about average. If you don't know what your doing stop doing it. Better to run the tubes at the factory setting than fry the tubes looking for some "sweet spot". Anyway I've used 100's of tubes, NOS as well as almost every new tube on the market, I like the JJ's better than most the Russian tubes. I think some Fender tubes are just re-labeled JJ's. I'm not a big fan of EH 6V6's since a few years back I ended up with a dozen of them that were junk and everyone of them had problems. Something to remember, tubes are meant to wear out, so if you have a love for tube amps, plan on replacing tubes often. Learn how to trouble shoot problems. Todays best tubes are not as good as the old RCA's or Sylvania tubes of the late 60's, some of which I still use in a few of my amps. If you can't handle the maintenance of a tube amp then get a Solid State amp, it's that simple. FWIW I use some SS amps I think sound good as a tube amp. I have repaired fewer SS amps of than tube amps over the last 40 years.Johnny
The second matched and 24 hour burned in set of JJ6V6S bought from TubeDepot, and I couldn't be more happy. Ordered tubes with late breakup, and in my 1984 model Fender Super Champ these tubes sound absolutely superb. Sturdy tubes that take a lot of beating. Compared to nos 6V6GTA they may sound a little more 6L6ish, but I really like that. Big and clear sounding. Almost unbelievable how loud the little 18 watt amp sounds with these tubes. i replaced the stock power tube in my Mooer little Monster BM with one of these. Now it sounds rounder, warmer and more balanced. I get sweet smooth jazz and blues tones with nice break when i push the amp. My amp is now quieter when idle as well. I'm very happy with this tube definitely buy one for this amp again. Waaaaaay richer tone than a blackface princeton reverb–period. this is a loud, rich toned vintage 50's don mcgohan pa head thoroughly gone through by the famed acorn amplifier in atlanta. the mods only included replacement of a couple of caps, the addition of a grounded plug, and 1/4" jacks for input and 8 ohm speaker output. the two channel volume knobs can be used to create overdrive, amazing growl–no exaggeration. the tube compliment is 2x 6v6, a 5y3 rectifier, and 6sc7 and 6sn7 preamps. the tubes test strong and are all original to the amp. the issue with the finish is decades old, only in the finish, and affects nothing. i've used this amp for 16 years and it will fill a room with lush tube sound. the tubes will be wrapped separately and secured inside the amp cage. this thing gets great chicago sound with either guitar or harp cause it was built in chicago and is equal or better any masco or bogen of the same wattage. remember, tube 10 watts will fill a room. it's a clean so…
