I love this amp 4 its warm tone and great reverb. I got 2 of the dedicated cabs 4 a mini stack and stereo use. This (2 me) is a jazz guitarists dream. If u can't afford (like me) a henricksen or price like amp I recommend u think twice before getting a price like of this head (unless u get the heads with gain and reverb). I enjoy this head 4 jazz(mostly) and clean stuff. This would make an arch-top and semi-hollow jazz guitar sing it warm tones (depending on the pick ups on u ax or how the heads controls r set ). I recommend any 1 getting this u will love it and not 2 mention its price.mrfix

Love this amp. I got it for a portable grab and go that's loud enough to be heard over drums. It's a million times easier to move than my head and cab, and it's plenty loud when you crank it. It was easy dialing in tones in both channels. The clean channel is good, but not spectacular. The reverb choices help a lot. I'm not a reverb guy, but I actually love the reverb on this amp. If sparkling cleans are your priority get a JC120. The dirty channel is a monster. Add some hall reverb and you have a killer Van Halen tone. Turn off the reverb and you have Pantera up the wazoo. The voice of the world speaker sounds pretty decent. As you turn up the amp the tone stays generally the same, and doesn't get muddy. I put a Celestion 75 watt creamback, and a heavy gauge speaker cable in mine and it's phenomenal sounding now. Fat and full at low volumes, and when you crank it the punch and clarity get better the louder you go. Get this amp. Sounds great straight out of the box. Upgrade the speaker and you'll have a pro grade sounding amp that will destroy anything in its path.Lank Dangle

This is stellar I had no idea just how good it would be. Looks great in black – I was so close to an orange Orange but a just preferred the understated looks of this… The clean channel is punchy and I've had no trouble dialling in a great bright clean sound with my Les Paul on 10 its just before break up my Tele sounds sublime through it. The dirty channel can go crazy, but that's not my thing. I've got a nicely screaming tone available but tend to roll the guitar volume back to 7/8 sounds good… cleans up around 6 and is very useable. It's a keeper the reverbs are good I'm running around 2 maybe just 3 using plate. The master volume is good dosen't suck the tone when low so very useful for playing at home. I've push some drive pedals into the front but I love the dirty channel so have been using that on its own. With my looper I'm using the dirty channel creating a loop with the guitar vol backed off and then pushing the amp with the guitars vol control for lead. it's so much fun sounds ace.Nicholas C.

This amp is incredible! There is no reason for a bad review of this product!!!! I've played for 44 years on stage, recorded, collected guitars and amplifiers, I am a guitar tech, sound engineer, touring musician, also I have one set of ears! I have played almost every giggable amp made, and every guitar sound from humbuckers to single coils. I love this amp because in one beautiful box at 60w I can get almost any sound that I want, I dont care if I can plug into a toaster through a 4×12 cab, if it sounds great, it is. If your guitar is set up, your cables are good, your amp is properly grounded, and your strings are clean, you do not have to get into the I need 21 pedals thing, just plug in, maybe have a few pedals, and turn it up!!!! Tubes sound great, but with all the pcb problems a lot of amps do not have the mojo that they did back in the days of craftmanship. This amp is the modern choice for me, at a great price, It sounds fantastic, no tube swap, failure, pcb burn through, or babying. This amp reminds me of old tube amps I played in the 70s that were made in the 60s get one, I got mine price reduced. After cranking it for 20 hours, I will see if it gets better, it already sounds second best of any amp I've ever owned, its portable, you can mike it, also it sounds close to my all time favorite amp, a jcm 800 50w!Eddie Chicago

One of the best combo amps I have ever played or heard. Playing for 55 yrs and have owned or played almost every American and Brit amp in that time from Marshall Matchless and Orange, to Hiwatt to Fender and Two Rock. This amp is right up there in the top 10. The cleans are beautiful and full of nuance the distortion goes from tweed- like to almost full on metal. I have read the reviews from detractors of this amp claiming the cleans are dull or the distortion is fizzy. I don't get it. Perhaps they need their hearing checked? These are the same people that claim a pure hand wired amp has the best tone ever and then slam the front end with pedals containing op amps and digital components and claim the distortion is fantastic! Go figure… I have replaced the speaker with a WGS ET90 (cream back clone) and the tubes with nos: V1:RCA, V2: RFT, Power: Siemens EL34. It is simply STUNNING.Keith Morrison

I've owned a Peavey 5150 212 combo back in the day, a H&K 20 watt tube, and used everything from Marshall to Mesa, Vox and Fender, and everything in between. This amp is simply the best tone I've ever heard out of an amp, period. I originally owned the first rendition of the HT series, with the smaller 20 watt amp, which was great but lacked the "super saturated lead" voicing on the HT40. I exchanged the 20 for the 40, and enjoyed the power, incredible tones, and durability of the original HT40 for years. Fast forward to recent times, when I was trying to go smaller, and tried out many modeling amps, as I didn't think I needed the full blown power of a 40 watt valve amp anymore. Needless to say, modelling amps still sound weak, harsh, and digital to my ears, and probably always will. I ended up buying the MK2, and they actually managed to improve my favorite amp of all time. This amp has stunning clean tones, and wonderful options for a modern or more boutique voicing, and two different reverb styles. Really, the cleans I get from this Blackstar from my tele are simply incredible, maybe not Fender level, but darn close. This is the one amp I've tried that has absolutely stunning clean tones AND brutal crunch and overdrive. This amp can play ANYTHING you throw at it, from metal to country, jazz and punk, and everything you can imagine. There an emulated out for recording, a switch that outputs only 10% of the wattage and turns it into a 4watt amp, giving you incredible saturation and warmth even at low volumes. I truly cannot say enough good things about it, I am a Blackstar customer for life after my first HT40, as they truly blew me away with the tone and features. The ISF is essential to me, and can transform the tone of this amp significantly. IMO, the high gain of this amp is miles ahead of even the Peavey 6505.B. Free Productions

As many have stated, if any amp could be a "swiss army knife" of tone, this would be it. The clean channel is fantastic, and has a lot of tone shaping ability between eq settings and changing between bright and dark reverb. The drive channel has a lot of variance as well, and can cover tons of ground – anything from blues, classic rock, to flat out metal.

Where it falls flat is the PCB assembly. Flux was still all over the board, and solder joints had voids in areas and were very poorly done. I believe many of the reliability issues others have reported are due to the poor PCB assembly. It's a fairly easy fix that shouldn't cost much more than $100 by a local reputable amp guy to redo bad/cold solder joints and strip the flux off the board. Despite this handicap, it is undoubtedly worth every penny. If you play through one and love it, don't let this scare you away.David Moore

How are you all doing Rocking people ??? Well, it's me again. Let me go on with my next review here. I'll tell you (No BS !), this guitar is one of the lightest guitar out there. Feel so light that it feels like you're just holding an empty carton box. I've own a Schecter and a Fender before but you can't compare the weight of this guitar to those 2 because they're heavy. As far as tone/performance, the PU's on this are good contrary to the negative comments other people had to say about it. I'd like to upgrade the PU's (to SEYMOUR DUNCAN Humbuckers) though, because I've been wanting that classic Rock sound. Also, I want to upgrade the tuners to Grover Rotomatics. Plenty of good reviews about these Tuners which I believe because I've had them come standard with my SCHECTER Damien Elite. Anyway, I really recommend this guitar for its value, looks and performance and mostly the weight because it makes a big difference on your playing, especially if you play standing a lot. Someone here mentioned that this amps sounds horrid with a Gibson J45. It's all in the ears of the beholder I guess. Anyone that has a fondness for the Gibson J160 (I Think), or the model Epiphone sells as the John Lennon model will really appreciate this amp. I use a Martin not equipped with electronics but put a soundhole pickup on it and it roars. It's a little light on the wattage output in the clean channel but does everything I need on the overdrive channel. I do not use pedals or external effects of any kind. The built in reverb/delay is great for Carlos Santana, Peter Greene, or most anyother soulfull styles. It probably wouldn't suit a hard rock guitarist using an acoustic guitar. I don't know. Someone who can think outside the box might be able to justify the rig. Everything about the amp is a bang-for-the-buck value.Ed-HEYns

Overall, this was my first really decent practice amp, and it's my pride and joy. I have recommended this to a friend and do not regret it one time.If you get any of the raven amps, just be ready to change out the speakers for and 8 ohm ANYTHING, because this amp has a 6 ohm speaker…or at least all mine did. I have no idea if they've changed that up at all. But other than that one, count 'em, ONE flaw, these amps are perfection. Get one ASAP. You won't regret it. These days, it's very hard to find a solid state amp that doesn't have a built in effects rack. This is one of the few exceptions. I'm not a very smart girl, so I enjoy the simplicity of a two-channel solid state like this little monster. It has a rhythm channel, which for all intensive purposes is basically a clean setting, and a lead channel, which is a somewhat lacking overdrive channel (but for the $100 I paid, I can't really complain too much). So, I use a Digitech RP90 mutieffects pedal with a crybaby wah," and that gives it that amazing death metal tone I wanted. It has a single 12"" speaker…and this is my only issue with it. This speaker", even with a noise gate, causes the harshest feedback at high levels. So, I replaced it with an Eminence Black Powder and that stopped the feedback. I can't believe no one else addressed this one problem, but oh well. The tuner is, well, the tuner sucks. It skips around the note and gets confused quite easily. But I tune by ear anyway, so it's not an issue. This thing is built like a tank! I know this because in early February of this year, my bassist and I were driving down the road, and we had an accident in which his suv flipped and landed in a ditch. His tube amp and my raven were thrown all over the back of this truck and my raven survived! It still works, and long story short, I'd buy another one if this one were lost or stolen. So yes, this amp is worth your hard earned money. I honestly think that musicians friend is screwing themselves by dropping the price on these amps. They're amazing pieces of equipment, that with a little work, get even better! I don't understand why people bash these amps because of the OD channel. In all honesty, these amps were intended for use by beginners. And with that being said, I'm playing shows all over the Southeast US and I love this amp. Fantastic amp for the price! The clean channel is great, and has time delay effects that is unexpected for an amp in this range. The overdrive is excellent too, and you can control different frequencies as well. It also has two inputs for guitars, and a microphone input! So you can jam with friends and sing along. Overall: This is a fantastic amplifier! Powerful tones for days! I am a Stoner Rock/Doom Metal player. So the feature for tight and loose in a single knob is a great addition for me personally. I just absolutely love the overall tone and features on this amp!However! You have to be wondering by now why only three stars. That's because there is a serious downside. When I spend $2,800 on an amplifier I don't want to HAVE to use pedals. Ironically I love pedals. However, I shouldn't have to use a pedal in order to drive this thing. YOU ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO HAVE A PEDAL TO DRIVE THIS TO THE POINT TO FULL ON SATURATION AND HEAVY TONES. You absolutely have to have one. I've been playing guitar since a kid. My Dad used to own a guitar store where he was an amp technician. I'll always remember sneaking into his room when he wasn't home and playing his salmon pink Strat and Twin reverb amp. There was always a magic in them and they really inspired me. Fast forward 30 years and I've grown up just like him. Been playing professionally for a long time through some pretty nice gear but something in me always wanted to revisit that amp, it just had the perfect sounds I played lots of amps before choosing a Marshall 50w plexi as my amp of choice for gigging and it was good, no doubt a about that, played it for almost 15 years straight until one day buying that Twin I'd always so wished I also had. Found I played it far more than the plexi so actually ended up selling the Marshall and just sticking with the 65' reissue! It does everything the Marshall did and more I think. Playing them side by side before making the final decision to sell set my mind at ease because I couldnl get the same sounds from the Twin. Even did a little A/B recording with overdrive and no one could pick which one was which I play mainly classic rock and this amp is everything I'll ever need. Small wattage Amos always sound and feel small to me so was never interested in them, of it's too loud turn it down, the volume is far better than the plexi because that one sat on a hair trigger, really difficult to get a bedroom volume out of. The Twin is quote easy and pot smooth to use. Plexi goes from 0-almost full volume at half way to 1 on the dial. Love itJez

I received the amp yesterday and have only played it (both the vibrato and normal channel) for about half an hour in my living room, but I was so impressed that I wanted to go ahead and write a review, which I almost never do. I've been playing electric guitar almost 50 years and have owned many different amps, almost all Marshall or Fender, including a late 60s or early 70s 100 watt Marshall (no master volume), a mid 70s silver face Twin Reverb and Dual Showman, a 1987X 50 watt Marshall reissue, a '59 Bassman reissue (before the LTD version), a '65 Super Reverb reissue, a Twinolux, and a standard '65 Deluxe Reverb reissue. The only other amp I have currently is a wine red '65 Deluxe Reverb reissue (DRRI) with a P12Q Jensen speaker. The '65 DRRI has been one of my favorites. I like the 6V6 sound and I think it's hard to get a bad sound out of that amp. I really like the clarity of the 64 Custom Deluxe Reverb compared to my '65 DRRI. It is noticeably brighter than my '65 DRRI, but part of that may be because the '64 has a C12Q speaker while my current '65 DRRI has a P12Q speaker. Since reverb and vibrato work on both channels of this '64 Custom Deluxe Reverb, the vibrato channel is like having the bright switch on (it reminds me of the way my super reverb sounded with the bright switch on) and the normal channel is like having the bright switch off. I like the way both the reverb and vibrato work and sound on this '64 more than the '65 DRRI. The same guitar (a Strat with '69 custom shop pickups) has noticeably longer sustain when I play it through this '64 compared to my '65 DRRI. Some people have mentioned a possible problem with noise (hiss or hum) from this amp, due to the way the channels are connected together, but I hear virtually no noise at all from this amp, not when it is sitting still (with both normal and vibrato channels turned up to 3), and not when I turn any of the knobs. I wish I had bought this amp in the first place instead of the '65 DRRI.Kenneth

I was really surprised at how good this amp sounds. Years ago I tried Line 6 and was not at all happy with the tone; but this is another story. It does take me awhile to dial in a specific classic rock tone, but when I do, it sounds better than any other amp that I've tried. I have tried the Marshall Code, Blackstar id Core, Vox Valvetronix, Boss Katana; as well as some all tube amps. The only other amp that is a close 2nd is the Fender Mustang GTX; also a great amp. The Spider V is fairly easy to operate. It offers lots of choices for amp models and cabinets. I like that it has variations of a mic'd cabinet. The parametric eq is a plus. I haven't played around too much with the effects yet, so I can't comment on that. The only negative thing I could say is that when you're editing a preset and want to hear how it sounds before you save it, you only have a short time before it goes back to the Home Screen. This really is a small price to pay for the quality of the amp and all the versatility it has. I like the App too. Musicians Friend got me a great on this as well; and their agent is following up making sure that I'm satisfied. The funny thing is that I came across this by accident. I placed an order for a Peavey amp that was on back order. I called Peavey multiple times, but they never returned my call. I also emailed them, but they didn't respond to that either. As far as I'm concerned, Peavey doesn't have any customer support.crrkr

Been playing about a year, so my review is from the perspective of a complete newbie. The things I like- Lots of presets, mobile app functions, computer interface, and loads of user created effects available. Nice and loud, but no real basis of comparison to say if clarity is better or worse than other comparable amps. Don't likes- The micro-usb interface. I had to get an adapter and it's just not as good a connection as nearly anything else would be. IMHO, micro-usb is far too flimsy. Connecting to PC is far more problematic than just using the spider mobile app. It's probably a little more complicated than it should be for a beginner, but it's feature rich for the money.Nic T

I had a Line 6 120w amp for years that I regrettably sold a while ago and was looking for another amp. I looked at all the amp reviews I could find and decided that the new Katana was the way to go. I got the Katana home and absolutely loved it but the second day I had it it started a really loud buzzing that I couldn't stop. It probably was an easy fix but the fact is the amp was way too powerful for my purposes and their software wasn't compatible with the new Catalina OS. I returned and started looking again. I saw the 60w Spider V and the price was excellent so I made an on the spot decision to buy another Line 6 and I'm really glad I did. The tones this amp can get are incredible. There are so many amp models and cabs that you can dial in pretty much any tone you want from a crispy snapback country clean to the most vicious heavy metal and everything in between. You can use the presets as they are or you can use them as a baseline and tweak to your own liking or you can start from scratch and build your own rig from the ground up. The controls are intuitive and easy to use but there are some features where you'd have to be a professional to really know how to use or even care to use. The software and the mobile app are so easy to use and give you all the options at your fingertips. The amp comes with a lot of presets that I find are completely useless but there are a lot that are excellent as I already talked about. There are only four empty slots for your own custom presets and I wish there were more but if you use the mobile app you can have your own tone library on there. I bought the FBV3 foot controller so that gives me a lot of flexibility to have various effects. One of the limitations is the lack of good effects though. There's enough that if you work at it you can get a decent sound but there could be some better ones. Overall I would recommend the amp. Don't listen to the naysayers or the amp snobs, it's a quality amp and extremely versatile.Just Plain Joe

This amp is night and day compared to my old line 6 spyder. The clean channel is beautiful and the 2 overdrive channels cater for pretty much any rock/metal style. It's insanely loud, I can't really hear what the guys at my work are saying which is great because they talk absolute pish. The reverb is fantastic on both dark and light but why why why blackstar did you put the switch on the back of the amp?, who thought of that idea and do they still have a job at blackstar? It's mental, makes absolutely no sense! That aside it's a fantastic piece of kit which a nice 4 way foot switch for your 3 channels and reverb and it looks amazing and is really well made. Why do I call it the Hyundai of Amp? It's an amp designed for people who look for boxes to be checked or compare features online. Like Hyundai or Kia buyers. It works like this: Is it tube? Check. Does it have spring reverb? Check. Does it have emulated line out? Check. 1st off this has to be the most Chinese amp I've ever seen. IT's CHEAPLY MADE. They oversized it and made it heavy to give the appearance or impression of quality. Fail. Peavey claims they did that for bass response. However the bass response is poor it is not tight or anything you'd expect from a 6L6 amp. It's flubby and loose. My 1 trick pony statement? Well, no matter how you turn the eq pots, the sound is always kind of the same. The EQ doesn't have a lot of impact. It behaves like a digital amp. If you've used cheap modeling before, you'll notice that turning up the bass seems to decrease treble and mid rather than increase bass. The reverb is just awful. Your better off with it disabled. Its unusable. Digital would have been better. So this amp is for people who'd buy a Hyundai over a quality car because the Hyundai comes with similar features for less. Buy yourself a Marshall DSL40. It's way higher quality for the same money. But again this one check's boxes for features the Marshall doesn't have: Spring Reverb… Check. 6L6's…. Check. Emulated line out…. Check. 60 Watts… Check. But again it's the Hyundai of amps. There are lot's of amps in this range like the DSL40 that are more reliable and just drive better.Guylemieux

i bought this head about 3 weeks ago and I also bought a 412 Marshall speaker cabinet. I have been playing guitar on and off for 26 or 27 years now and have played thru just about every name brand of modeling amp and tube amp but this has got to b in my top 5 maybe even top 3 favorites so far. Me personally I think it even sounds better than my friends 5150 head & cabinet!!! It may be only 20 watts but don't let that fool you this thing gets very loud and has a very good tone from everything from metal to classic rock to country this head will do it all!!! It has allmost everything the full size 6505 head has but it's much lighter weight and is smaller. I have this head and a Marshall mini head both sitting on top of my speakers so I can plug the speaker cable into which ever 1 i'm in the mood to play that day but since i've bought the 6505 I really haven't played the Marshall that much. I researched some different heads and went on youtube and listened to different heads before I bought this 1. I actually heard my friends 120 watt 6505 plus head and it wasn't far off from what it sounded like on youtube of course I have a nice surround sound system hooked to my tv & computer so I got pretty close to the real sound of the amp like that but usually I wouldn't just buy something like this or a guitar without playing it first. I am very pleased with this head and the price is not bad either. I would recommend this to anybody who wants an awesome sounding amp that you can use as a practice amp or play out with and record with also with tons & tons of tone this has to be one of the best amps from Peavey yet!!!!smileygene30

I've owned many amps over the years including several other Peavey amps (Valveking, Triple XXX head with Mesa 4×12 Cab, Triple XXX 1X12, Sterero Chorus, US Bandit, Chinese Bandit), 3 Mesa's (dual recto head, .50 cal, and Mark III combo) , several Marshal's (DSL 40, DSL 100, and a couple of Valvestates) and a BlackStar HT-60……among others too numerous to list. My point: I've owned bad amps, average amps, and amazingly good amps. I heard good things about this amp, and after getting back into playing after a 10 year hiatus, I was hoping this would sound and perform similar to it's cousin, my old Peavey Triple XXX. Not so. The XXX had a stellar clean channel, with lots of Fender Chime. The clean channel on the 6505+ 112 is brittle and never completely cleans up unless you roll back the volume on your guitar. Even then, it's not wonderful. The crunch switch adds some decent crunchy tones good for old school rock. No complaints here, other than it obviously shares the eq with the clean channel….. so compromises will need to be made on tonality between the two. The heavy channel sounds just OK. My biggest disappointment is that this amp does not have the chest thumping low end that my XXX had (also a 1×12). Also, there is a high end "swarm of bees" buzziness emanating from the amp that you just can't dial out. Even reducing the pre-amp down below 2 and increasing the post to ear splitting levels doesn't solve this issue. I'm going to throw a Celestion GT-70 in tonight to see if it performs better than the Sheffield. Tubes will be next, but this doesn't sound like a tube issue, and other players are complaining about the buzzy tone all over the Internet. This amp just isn't the fire breathing monster it's cousin the XXX is. Seriously, I just don't understand why this amp is so highly rated.Wild North

Was looking for a small light weight amp whilst away from home, not wanting to lug around my heavy tube amp, cab and good sized pedal board. This amp fit's the bill perfectly. This amp sounds great, the onboard effects sound good to my ear. And I also like the controls on this amp. Simple layout that makes it easy and fast to dial in a decent sound. If you need more flexibility the architect software, which is a free download from Blackstar, is straight forward to use giving you even more flexibility. Another thing I like about this amp is as I'm away I often need to us headphones, no to disturb the neighbours, through the architect software, you can change the cab simulation from 112, 212, 412, even choose what mic simulation is used, which I think it's an excellent addition to this already impressive small amp. This amp also sounds great through its built-in speakers, giving it a great stereo sound. For this price I honestly cannot fault it, I did look at other amps but settled for this. And I'm so glad I did. This amp is a bargain!!Lesley C.

I hate amp hunting. I wanted something small and specific for a home studio. Shiny cleans with some grit too? Quality build? Under $600? I searched the used listings for weeks trying to find a deal. Nothing really GETS me. Finally, utterly sick of shopping, I walked into Sam Ash, saw this thing on the shelf and just bought it. Didnt try it. Just read the specs online, read a few reviews and snagged it. I figure, worst case scenario I'll return it tomorrow. Let me say, the sound from this amp is just so incredibly nice. Even without pedals, the built in reverb sounds very good. Not splashy, more like a plate reverb. Adding a transparent overdrive makes my G&L ASAT sound like a tone monster. I have no specific affinity for Blackstar. Never owned a single one of their products and I am totally blown away by this thing. I don't know a thing about the tonal waveforms and harmonic frequencies of the most expensive boutique amps but, on a stage or studio I'd put this amp up to pretty much anything. It FEELS good. It sounds good. Between my guitar and an overdrive pedal and the tone knob on the amp itself, I'm able to pull at least 6 very distinct tones before I even engage the dirty channel. It's even got an effects loop. Get one! You'll like it!DANIEL

I bought this amp a few months ago after LOTS of research, having finally decided to replace my previous amp of about 20 years! (A Marshall AVT half stack) Firstly, it looks amazing IMO and build quality looks and feels great too. I play in two bands, one playing southern rock, the other heavy rock/classic metal so needed something that was going to cover a pretty wide range of sounds. The Blackstar handles it amazingly! Wonderful warm crunches all the way to chugalicious highly saturated metal gains. The high gains are so smooth and creamy too and not 'scratchy'. (Something I always struggled with with the AVT) The clarity is also pretty amazing at high gain too. Individual notes can be picked out clearly and not just lost in a fuzzy mush. The 2 OD channels work perfectly for the two separate sounds I'm looking for to suit each band, with Voicing on each channel giving even more versatility. This amp produces beautiful cleans too, which can also break up nicely if you push the clean channel volume up. I'd also really recommend the optional 5-way footswitch, shame this doesn't come as standard, but hey..! All in all, I'm absolutely over the moon with this amp. It can do everything from sparkling cleans to tasty crunch and up to all the gain you could wish for. I've even been able to get THAT Stevie Ray Vaughan tone! 😍 But not only that, it's not some 'Jack of all trades, master of none'…it absolutley nails all of these brilliantly! Perfect for home or studio use. Good live in small venue, and works well for larger venue thru a board. The effects are precise and vocals come thru well. I use mine now for studio recordings with a 12 string Taylor and added a sub woofer (which the AC-60 allows) to give it a punch. Being able to plug in headphones is a huge ++ for practice. Highly recommend the Roland AC-60 for a beginner to pro. It will allow you to really hear yourself play and be 'in the pocket' to either play live, or more important for me, lay down clean tracks without using any digital effects from the computer, or rack.fboomer65

I've been through a couple acoustic amps lately including a Fishman Loudbox Mini, Crate CA-60D, and Acoustic AG-60. The Roland AC-60 is by far my favorite. It's not the loudest of the bunch and it doesn't have the effects of some, but what it does have is a clarity of sound -especially for vocals. All the amps I mentioned are great for acoustic guitars. I couldn't really tell you which is truly the best for that. But the Roland shines if you want to sing along with a guitar. With it's smaller size and the carrying case, it's much more portable than the others. Also of note is an output for a subwoofer if you choose to extend the sound range. The bass is slightly lacking since it only has 6 1/2" speakers. I would go for the AC-90 with the 8" speakers if I could afford it. But I'm more than happy with the AC-60.Groovy Jones

Very pleased. Crystal clear sound, good reverb and nice subtle chorus. Using the piezo input and the phantom powered mic input with a condenser mic together gives a very realistic acoustic tone though feedback still an issue.Graham

This amp is versatile and easy to use stand-alone. It has a great selection of amp models built-in, along with enough effect and delays so that you can find something that you like fairly quickly. I like the clean and boutique models with some reverb. Then I played around with the other models, adjusting settings and effects. You can adjust everything on the amp, not necessary to connect a computer. I did find it confusing initially due to all the different methods required, i.e. "press a button", "press and hold", "press for 2 seconds", etc. That's why I read the manual a few times! Line6 puts a nice 2-sided "cheat sheet" on top of the amp around the carrying handle which is a lot easier than flipping through small pieces of paper staring at small font printing. So don't remove the amp-topper sheet and toss it in the box with the rest of the packing material :-). The best feature of the Catalyst amp is the manual channel. This is WYSIWYG. Adjust the knobs and controls just like a "regular"amp. You can then save the settings once you get something you like. In the future I will connect the amp to the computer and see what else you can do. Right now I am quite happy with the Catalyst amp and I highly recommend it. Go get one!Gene

After suffering a disabling back injury I needed an amp that was easier and lighter to move and set up than the tube amp combos I was used to playing through. I never cared much for the solid state amps as they could never duplicate the warmth a tube amp provided and was considering retiring from live performance altogether. Then I heard about the Catalyst series of amps and decided to try them out and was amazed! My bandmates were as well, telling me how much more clean and clear my sound was. Programming channels was a snap ( just follow the "cheat sheet on top of the amp and read the manual) and the manual button provides the familiarity of a regular amp, and at a third of the weight of my Blackstar 40 watt tube combo I can continue to perform without dealing with debilitating back pain from moving a 70 pound amp. I was so impressed I went back to GC and got the 60 watt Catalyst as well for home and playing at open mic and jams. I couldn't be happier with these amps and am grateful for the help and guidance the folks at Guitar Center in Concord Ca. always provide.Stephen

I have a few amps that I'm selling and a couple that need work – I picked up this Catalyst 60 on a whim so I'd have something reliable and portable while I'm moving amps around my local used market – but I'm super impressed with this amp and am probably going to upgrade to the 100w model! (In fact, I'll get two because I play in stereo!) I found it impossible to get a bad sound out of this, I plugged in direct with my Vox Virage DC and tried all the possible pickup combinations and did not want to stop playing. Great cleans, great crunch. The higher gain amp settings had me revisiting the metal riffs of my youth, haha. I haven't dived into the software editor because: I haven't needed to. This thing sounds great out of the box.FitzG

I’ve been using the same solid state mg30cfx since I started playing. I purchased this along with the Marshall 1×12 speaker cabinet. This amp makes playing so much more enjoyable and I’ve finally found the tones I’ve been missing over the years. It’s great for in the house at the .1 watt setting. At full 1 watt it definitely makes my neighbors hate me. The foot switch and effects loop is definitely a plus for me. I’d recommend it to anybodyTim

I bought this amp as a practice amp to keep in a house that I'm remodeling. I'm running through an old early 2000's marshall MG 4 x 12 cab that I had laying around. I love the high gain channel…its got that great marshall dirt from the 80's type sound. The normal channels can get you that ZZ Top type of blues overdrive if that's what your after. I'm not crazy about the clean sounds, but nobody really buys a marshall for cleans anyways. The digital reverb is pretty decent as well. It's really nice to have the effects loop as well. Overall, a great little amp!Kevin

Overall: First off, this amp head is LOUD for 1W, even at the attenuated volume you will piss off the neighbors if you live in an apartment or condo. A 2 channel tube amp w built in fx loop and reverb from Marshall at this price is hard to beat. I mainly use the clean channel and run pedals through that as the dirty channel wasn't quite what I wanted, but it's a nice option to have. If you are a big reverb player than the built in reverb won't be of any use, but if you just use it sparingly like I do it gets the job done. You could easily gig with this head and a single 12" in most venues without issue, especially since most of the time your amp is mic'd once you get into larger venues.Chris

This little amp head rocks. I mean it really rocks. Now, I am using this after using the DSL40CR for years. Yes, sounds crazy I know. But, I am trying to downsize and this is perfect for room playing. I also love the size of this. It is small, light and very effective. I also feel that the reverb on this is way better than the DSL40CR. The other thing I really love about this amp that makes it unique is it has a dedicated clean channel which the other Marshalls do not have. The gain channel also sounds like a Marshall. So here is the story. I am trying to downsize my house by getting rid of duplicate things. I have two amps. I sold the Marshall DSL40CR. I missed the Marshall sound so much I bought this little 1 watt head. Best decision I made. Do not think about it just BUY this amp now if you want a rich tube amp sound without breaking the bank. Have been using these as backline for years, and have finally got my own one. Does everything you'd expect it to, and is built solidly. Can load in for a solo show with one trip from the car, and light enough for public transport too. Absolutely loud enough by itself for a pub/bar or small outdoor stage gig, no extra PA required.Henry B.

Overall: I wanted to give this amp some quality time to really understand it before I wrote this review. First off let me say this amp can do anything and do it gloriously with the right outboard gear. Here's my journey. Straight into this amp all the channels have a more classic voicing than I was expecting. Which at first was a downfall. I expected crushing tones??They are there in spades…you gotta work with this baby. She will give up the goods. Here's how!! Add an eq in the loop, as V scooped as you can.(something about doing it in the loop still cuts through a mix great both recorded and live). People have been doing it with the mesa mark series graphic eq for a long time. It works That gives you a modern voicing. Add a mid boosted od like a ts or sd1 to tighten an already tighter than tight Ironheart…And hold on for dear life. This amp will get modern and mean as they come. Maybe even meaner. No joke!!Keola

Like many guitar types i have played and owned many different amps from Peavey (JSX, Satriani model) to Mesa Boogie (SOB, Dual Rec) to Marshall (TSL, DSL, JVM combo, and 800's) to some older rack gear, to modeling am even some boutique types that i tried out, and this amp is holding its own with all of them and im keeping this one! The amp has 3 channels (Clean Crunch, Lead) and delivers great tone in each channel, built in reverb (I use it sparingly but it sounds great) a built in attenuator that actually works for lower house playing. (Yes it really works!!) It has a easy bias switch on the back to go from 6L6 to EL34s i want to try this out soon. The amp also has a dynamics knob (makes the amp tighter or breath more) sorta like compression, i like my amp to breath and bloom a little.. Tone is subjective but i LOVE the tone im hearing after all these years of playing (playing 24 years) it just feels great when i play and it responds to you picking, slapping strings and volume knob, great response to playing it. No mud, no noise, nothing just clarity and warm tube tone at any volume I have played for 24 years and currently play in a cover band playing things from 70s (Zep, Deep purple, acdc) to 90s and modern (Foo fighters, Lenny Kravitz, Tool, modest mouse, STP) and it covers all the music with ease…. want a old school rock sound? its there, a clean jazzy sound? its there – modern metal? its there, and it does it well,.I cant say how much i love playing the amp and the interaction i have with the head, my cabinet and the guitar with me, it is a sweet amp and i truly cant say anough good things about the amp. I have owned the 60 watter for 9 months and its been a fixture on my cabinets I Highly highly recommend this amp for anyone looking at a amp that sounds awesome, has great useful features and slays/sounds great in the house, in the studio or on the stage. Overall: Purchased this amp from zZounds and have owned it for about a month now. Initially I was looking at 3 amp heads, the EVH 5150 III 50 watt head, the Peavey 6505, and the Laney IRT60H. I went with the Laney head after reading and watching many reviews and came to this decision as the Laney is a 3 channel amp that has two separate eq sections and seemed to offer more tonal diversity than the other two amps. I am very satisfied with this decision. The amp has plenty of gain, though you need to turn the gain up a bit more on this amp to achieve the same amount of overdrive as the other two amps. I have my Gain set at 6 for my rhythm and 7 1/2 for my lead channel and I usually run them with the optional gain boost set to "ON". Each of the individual EQ knobs also have a pull push boost to put a some bump in either your lows, mids, or highs. With the addition of a overdrive pedal and noise gate in front of the amp I have achieved an amazing sounding metal tone and it was very easy to obtain. This amp screams metal. It comes with the variable wattage control knob, Which means you can play this at bedroom levels at 1 watt or turn it up to 60 watts all without losing any tonal qualities. I have mine set around the 15 watt level and play through a EVH 2×12 cab and I get amazing tone, I can jam in my living room and not wake up my neighbors. The clean tones are better than other amps dedicated to the metal sound, but still mediocre at best, same with the included digital reverb. The clean channel and the rhythm channel share the same eq section so you have to decide which channel gets the better tone or try and find some sort of middle ground, You get the 3rd Lead . For my purposes though, which is playing between crunchy blues and face melting metal, my needs are satisfied. I can get anything from Black Sabbaths old school Iron Man tone to Slayers thrash tone to modern day Djenty down tuned death metal of doom tone. The quality of the build is excellent, this is a heavy and very sturdy amp head, looks amazing when you first plug it in and the red light bathes you in all it's hellish glory. Just to be clear I have played many metal monster amps before, I have owned a Marshall Plexi and a I have played Mesa's and the 6505 line as well. I currently own the 100 watt Peavey Valveking mk II head and matching 4×12 cab. I could have easily sprung a couple of grand for a Orange or Dual Rec. But sometimes it's fun to break the mold and try something a bit different. They make a 120 watt version as well but there is no situation where I would ever need to be that loud where a PA system couldn't compensate. If you are looking for a high gain metal monster with amazing build quality and tone then I highly recommend this amp.Jeremy

This amp is night and day compared to my old line 6 spyder. The clean channel is beautiful and the 2 overdrive channels cater for pretty much any rock/metal style. It's insanely loud, I can't really hear what the guys at my work are saying which is great because they talk absolute pish. The reverb is fantastic on both dark and light but why why why blackstar did you put the switch on the back of the amp?, who thought of that idea and do they still have a job at blackstar? It's mental, makes absolutely no sense! That aside it's a fantastic piece of kit which a nice 4 way foot switch for your 3 channels and reverb and it looks amazing and is really well made. Wow! After playing guitar for almost twenty years I started to believe the tone in my head was something that was more imagination than actual possibility, but here I am. The lead channel on the Savage 120 Mk ii is PERFECT! It has lightning fast tracking, crystal clear note separation, loads of gain, massive bottom, is tighter than most amps WITH an OD in front and is saturated in all the right places. This is exactly what I've been after my entire guitar-playing life. The clean is also extremely good and more versatile than most dedicated clean amps. The crunch is brilliant. From a pushed clean all the way to the brown sound in one channel! Crunch 2 is kind of a hot rod 800 channel, German Style. There are a crazy amount of tone sculpting options that will take some adjustment, but once you get used to it, it provides you near-limitless sonic possibilities. An absolute 11/10 for me.Metal

This thing has taken over my entire stack of amps. My 5150, 6505+ and dual rec have done nothing but collect dust since the first time I flipped the switches on it. The Savage MKII truly needs no pedals in-front of it to get any tone you could want from beautiful cleans to punchy tight metalcore rhythms and silky smooth buttery leads. There is quite the learning curve with 4 channels and more settings than you would think are needed, but they all serve a purpose. Wish it would have came with a foot switch at the price point.Z
