I patiently waited for something such as this. Debated on buying a used 90's model, or going with the newer version sparkle jets, but never bit the bullet since they just didn't call out and give that "feeling". In checking what this year's model/version would be, I was jaw-dropped and immediately knew this was the one! It was so worth the wait for this model; the best of both worlds (89/older version, but new). The stock pictures look orange, but it is indeed a perfect gold and exactly what I was hoping for. The pictures attached are good to help show it, but it's so much better in person. The quality and craftsmanship? Superb! The feel? Outstanding! The sound? AMAZING! I had a great experience with Musiciansfriend. I called my gear advisor, Scott, and he went the extra mile to answer all of my questions over about a two week period. My guitar weighs just under 10 pounds. The set up was superb with a low action and near perfect intonation. Phenomenal sound. Just amazing. Each string rings out clear and balanced. This is my first Gibson. I am a Fender player ('69 Jaguar, '97 Strat) so I was afraid I wouldn't like the warm tones of the humbuckers (nearly went with P90 because of this), but I can't compliment this guitar enough. It's a legend for a reason. The only bad thing is the case. It's obvious that Gibson doesn't take as much care in quality control for their cases. Pea sized bubble on the exterior and lining already coming unglued. However, musiciansfriend is working to right this for me.Jonathan

Wow, does this guitar growl. These pickups are so hot, I was startled when I turned up the amp. On clean, every note in a chord is articulated brilliantly. And the sustain is strikingly long and full. I thought the fit and finish was exceptional, and appreciate the quality considering the price. It makes my other guitars feel like I'm riding a bike with a flat tire. It's just not a fair comparison. I am afraid I will have to upgrade my entire fleet now – it has spoiled me. The attention to detail is amazing. But that shouldn't come as a surprise as the Japanese are famous for being meticulous. I looked this guitar over every square inch with my face only inches above the piece and couldn't find a single blemish. I've been playing it unplugged for about a week now (I'm waiting for my Roland Cube to arrive) and it sounds lovely. It's actually nice to play unplugged because it isn't as loud as my Guild acoustic, but is louder than my unplugged Gibson SG.na5m

I still love my other two Gretsch guitars (6122-62 and 6120-59VS), but this thing has spoiled me. I was a little leery of the mismatched pickups, having never played either a Classic Plus or a Supertron before. Well, let me tell you, this is quite possibly the best pickup combination ever for a Gretsch. I know why Chet loved this combo so much. It's everything you like about the regular FilterTrons/TV Classics, but on steroids. The TV Classic Plus at the bridge is not quite as twangy or sharp as a regular TV Classic, but it is warmer….more midrange, as advertised. It can still twang with the best of them, though. The neck pickup, the TV Jones Supertron, is the more powerful of the two, even though the output rating is lower. It's warm, full, and incredibly punchy….like a regular TV Classic, but turned up to "10". Combining the two pickups is just perfection. Warm, twangy, velvety…you name it. No wonder Chet liked this pickup combination so much. The playability and finish are impeccable, as well….everything you'd expect from a pro-line Gretsch. If you're thinking of getting it, do it….you won't regret it. The best guitar Gretsch currently manufactures, in my opinion.Mark

Killer and wondrously beautiful silver sparkle jet! this one is made to vintage specs and is a real joy to play. she s chambered out and nice and light yet balanced when you ve got her strapped up. she is chimey as can be and yet articulate and full! this is basically a mint guitar. no fret wear and no bumps in the finish that i could find. the only flaw is a scratch on the headstock that i was able to grab a picture of. comes in gretsch original hard case with all the candy.buy with confidence! you can see this actual guitar in even more stunning detail in the attached video. in addition, i will send a video of the packing process to ensure that she gets to you looking as good as she did when she left me!

This Sparkle Jet arrived perfectly setup, and sounding incredible. It’s got the perfect balance of hollowbody howl, and solidbody snap. The Bigsby stays in tune, and the looks… wow. It looks like rock and roll. This being the “Vintage Select,” it comes with a lighter brown stain on the back and neck, as well as the cream binding and Grover Sta-Tite open tuners. Such a handsome axe. I’m so happy with this purchase, and once again, AMS has helped me get the gear I lose sleep over. Overall: I have a 6120 but have a had time reaching the upper frets. This model Jet lets you have much better access while keeping that Gretsch sound a vibe!! The action on this is fantastic. Lowered the bridge screws a little from out of the box to my taste. Smooth bigsby with subtle bends staying in-tune. The sparkle finish is just out of this world. The V shape neck is very soft. It gives a nice rounded feel vs. a V feel. Not as thick as a 50's LP or even a Custom LP. Slightly thicker than a 60's LP. Highly recommend this model

Ordered and received this guitar from Sweetwater beautifully immaculate almost tuned guitar.. So nice that sweetwater actually takes the time to inspect tune and clean the guitar then readbox it… Way different than buying at guitar center were they just hand you the shipped box… I have six other electric guitars all solid bodies and one acoustic, so this is my first hollow body electric guitar, it is truly one of the most beautiful guitars I have ever seen, The build quality and craftsmanship on this guitar is so impressive…sound quality is amazing…. Nachdem ich mich zuerst auf dem Vintage Markt nach einer Gretsch umgesehen habe, musste ich (wie allerdings auch bei vielen anderen Marken und Modellen) feststellen, das vor allem runtergerockter Edelschrott angeboten wird und natürlich gerne mit den üblichen Prädikaten wie "Hölzer gealtert", "besonderer Ton" und was sonst noch so alles die Gitarre teurer machen lässt geschmückt wird. In Wahrheit hat man dann oft mit sich lösenden Bindings, Elektrik-Problemen, angegammelter Hardware, abgespielten (weil noch original) Bünden etc,etc zu kämpfen. Wenn man also als professioneller Musiker nach einer zuverlässigen Arbeitsgitarre sucht ist man mit den Neuauflagen einiger Klassiker oft besser bedient. Es sei denn Geld spielt gar keine Rolle 🙂 Gretsch Gitarren sind oft mit viel Gold und etwas überladenener Optik verbunden, aber dieses Gretsch-Orange mit Nickel Hardware sieht richtig toll aus und die 6120 ist für mich sowieso der Klassiker dieser Marke. Eine echte Bereicherung in meinem Gitarren-Bestand, füllen doch die TV Jones Classic PUs genau die Lücke zwischen Singlecoil und Humbucker. Nicht so schlank wie erstere, aber trotzdem sehr schön offen. Sowohl von Clean bis kräftiger Zerrung klingt alles grossartig, selbst High Gain Soli sind drin, obwohl man dafür ja nicht unbedingt nach so einer Gitarre sucht. Für mich aber sehr universell einsetzbar. Ob man die Ton-Presets mag ist Geschmacksache, ich finde sie ganz nett, werde aber vermutlich selten darauf zurück greifen. Mit dem Bigsby kann man den Sound schön schweben lassen und wenn man es nicht übertreibt bleibt alles in tune. Leider gibt aber der Sattel einen Stern Abzug. Der war nicht gut gekerbt und liess damit natürlich zuerst Stimmungsprobleme aufkommen. Das sollte bei dieser Preisklasse nicht sein. Dafür jetzt zu reklamieren und lange hin und her zu schicken habe ich mir aber gespart, mit frischen Saiten und etwas "Schmiermittel" arbeitet dann auch alles verstimmungsfrei. Die kürzere Mensur mit 0.11 – 0.49 Saiten lässt sich super bespielen und fühlt sich an wie 0.10 auf meiner Tele. Obwohl ich normalerweise höhere Bünde mag komme ich mit der eher kleinen Vintage Bundierung hier sehr gut zurecht. Die Oktavreinheit ist trotz der Rocking Bar Bridge absolut sauber und das Sustain ist auch exzellent. Ich bin mit der Gitarre also absolut glücklich und denke für mich persönlich ist das die ultimative Gretsch !
Was sceptic for a while. After many guitars had settled on Gibson ES-330, a Nick Page Telecaster, a Collings 290. But always wondered how a guitar plays that was influential in so many totally different fields from Duane Eddy to Beatles to Neil Young to Townsend etc. It`s a magic sound machine really. And so well built! Love it already.
Die hat einfach alles, was man sich von einer Gretsch 6120 wünscht – Punch, Twang, Klingeln, Sustain, Dynamik, Aggression (wenn gewollt), super Spielgefühl, Top-Optik. (Inklusive original Chet-Atkins-Logo, das aussieht wie ein schlechtes Knast-Tattoo…) Im Vergleich mit ein paar anderen (USA, Japan und Korea) Gretsch liegt sie überall klar vorn. Intonation der Bar-Bridge ist auch mit 10-46er Saiten perfekt, das leichte V-Profil des nicht zu dünnen Halses liegt sehr angenehm in der Hand, Verarbeitung allgemein ist fantastisch. Wer auf den Sound der 59er Gretsch steht (Trestle Bracing!), aber nicht gewillt ist, 10.000 € dafür auszugeben, ist mit dieser Reissue wirklich bestens bedient. Kaufempfehlung! Einziger kleiner Wermutstropfen: der Sattel war bei Auslieferung nicht wirklich sauber gekerbt, bei Verwendungs des Bigsby blieben einige Saiten ständig hängen. Ließ sich aber mit Sattelfeile ganz schnell beheben, jetzt flutscht alles.

This guitar is absolutely in mint condition! it was played once to make sure it worked before selling it. it could pass for a new guitar if it wasn't for the serial number, which shows it was made in march 2015. you can see it still has the original protective wrapping. it was 947 made of that year! the signature behind the headstock is authentic. it was signed by fred gretsch in 2018.

The neck is a bit wider than I am used to so getting comfortable with that took some practice. The instrument sounds better the more you play it. Don't over-wind your strings because that could lead to tuning issues. It does have a bit of that distinct Gretsch sound that is perfect for rockabilly and country but it is more versatile in my opinion and the pick ups seem hooter and more geared for rock. I've played White Falcons before and have loved their sound but never liked all the gold hardware. The Billy Duffy model fixes that problem. I play mostly rock, blues and a lot of 90's music. To me at least, these were the best eras recently in music overall. Love the feel of this even though it's large than most guitars but with that comes a very unique tone that's always at the ready! And as with all Gretsch's it's finish is absolutely amazing. Upon delivery I went over it literally with a magnifying glass to find imperfections, I couldn't find any, let alone one. Plugging it in to my Boss Katana MK II 100 was that "aha" moment you always hope for when you initially start to play any new guitar. Instantaneous gratification to the ears. There's more of a tonal feedback feel than with any other guitar I own (9 currently). I can actually feel the sound as opposed to just simply hearing it. I saved up for several months for this one in particular and it absolutely delivered in every category I had and exceeded a few too. Now if I could only find a black one 😉 !Will

Super mint 2015 gretch g6118. made in japan. plays perfectly. lightning fast neck. the guitar and case are all original. guitar is lightweight, balanced and easy to handle. these pickups sound amazing. the original owner bought it and put it in a closet and never played it. i am selling it for his widow. absolutely amazing guitar.

Absolutely in love with this instrument. I have a wide range of guitars: Fender Tele and Strat, Gibson Les Paul Studio, Epiphone DOT, Washburn G10-V, PRS Swamp Ash Special and DGT Standard. These are all great guitars. but I am really taken with the Gretsch. A superb addition to the stable. Very pleased with it overall. I have never had a MIJ guitar and was a little leary about it. Do not be confused, this is the real deal, a genuine 1959 production year anniversary model. gretsch used the "1959 anniversary model" name on this model for many years but this is a drop dead original1959 year example in really great condition and fit with the original optional bigsby. i upgraded just the string bar with a tremtrue bar but the original is included of course. i am trimming down from 200+ guitars and sadly some great guitars just have to go. i only own rock stars. i seriously actually bought this from chet atkins' nephew for what that is worth. i had my luthier who is also dickie betts' luthier reset and level the frets and make some very tasteful mods making it probably the best playing and sounding anniversary on earth. i suppose most people looking at this guitar know what the "mud switch" is. this allows you to switch from a useless tone to a slightly less than useless tone. i had through experimentation the switch replaced with a cts tone pot and new cap of a p…

Awesome guitar. i’ve had a couple of gretsch models and the players edition upgrades definitely help the issues i had with my others. stays in tune very well. i got it from the original owner. has some tarnish on the hardware and some swirling in the finish on the back (tried to photograph). all paperwork is in the case.
