Reviews:
After the initial COVID lockdown I landed a gig where I had to have a 5 string bass. So like a red blooded American I took my cash down to the local GC store to buy a fender 5 string American jazz. There wasn't any. I looked for an Ibenez. There wasn't any. I looked for anything and we'll there wasn't any. As the date grew near for our first show, I happened in and they had this one. I was disappointed that this was all there was, but out of desperation, I bought it thinking I would trade it once something I wanted became available. It took me about two months and 10 gigs later when I realized I love this thing. 9 months in and I don't know how many dates later, I wouldn't want to live without it. It plays awesome after a quick and minor setup on the action. The tone is big on the bottom and the mids and highs are as shapable as you want. It is a dream to play and guess what, when I finally got to put my hands on the fender I wanted, I didn't want it anymore. This bass is very much like the high end Ibenez basses. Probably too much for Ibenez's liking actually. I run through a 800w mark bass head with a 2×10 cab and a 1×15 cab. It sounds incredible. The big thing for me is when I run through my amp using the direct out in bypass, it sounds amazing. It is like having a sans amp in the bass. The electrics are that good. I have gotten tons of compliments on the tone and questions about how I got it. I literally just plugged it in. Also I can play it all night and even though it is a five, I am less fatigued then when I play the four fender American jazz I already own. The string spacing and scale I believe is responsible for that. If you are serious about playing a 5 string, at any level, then this bass is one you should look at. I am not super crazy about the esthetics but I get a surprising amount of complements on it. So if that is your thing then rock on I guess. I am getting over the fact that I was a fender snob. Also I believe Jackso is made by fender sooo….Chris
Love this Jackson bass. Finish is first class and blemish free. the satin finish of the neck really does give it a smooth easy playability. doesn't have the triangle fret markers or logo on pick ups like more expensive models…and only one screw holding the truss rod cover in place… but this is where savings are made and the price kept low I guess.. The hardware… bridge, saddles and tuning pegs are all solid high quality… i highly recommend this bass to beginners and pros alike… OK… the BUTs.. out of the box… this model must have been rushed through control… the action was so low that that there was fret buzz across the entire fret board. slight truss adjustment and raising of the saddles easily enough sorted that out though…. It plays beautifully now but i would'nt have expected to have to do a full set up. AND…I also ordered a mic stand… this brought my total order to over 200 euro. The website VERY clearly states that orders over 200 euro qualify for free postage to Ireland… but after ordering, I was mailed to inform me that as it is a guitar…. and therefore large, I would have to pay postage…this isn't mentioned anywhere on the Musicstore site… very annoying indeed. So.. great guitar… but might need a little setting up and beware of postage charges.
My one only bass for the past 20 years has been a Ibanez SR405 (2001 year model). I feel like I've purchased a big upgrade with this Jackson X Series Spectra. In comparison to the Ibanez, the Jackson's neck is fatter, lower fret sizes are slightly wider and the string spacing is slightly wider. The playability is a lot smoother for my larger fingers/hands. The pickups and active EQ systems are powerful. Need to have some amp/di box control to contain the powerful output when in smaller venues. I use the passive pickup control when in smaller venues and small churches. I feel that what sets this apart from other basses I've tried is how great it sounds to play the d and g strings as well as going above the 12th fret. The stock strings (D'Addario) sound really pretty when playing the higher octaves. The Elixir strings I'm currently using give the B string a BIG SMOOTH THUMP. For those worried about setup out of the box, I live in high altitude. Setup post manufacturer is usually a must because of that. I have been able to get fairly low action without fret buzz after casually messing with adjustments.Zach

Reviews:
Some set up issues with the bass, but ,at the price I am incredibly impressed with the overall quality, playability and tone. After some adjustments to truss rod, bridge action ( intonation was good) and pickup height I've now got a 5 string J Type bass that I will happily gig when the venues open again. Although not as slick as my MTD and Warwick basses, the Sire gives me a whole range of tones that I can't squeeze out of the other basses. The active eq is really excellent, but the ability to use and adjust the passive circuit with the master tone control makes this more versatile than any of my other basses. Overall, a bit of a bargain with great service on top!Reviewed by Andertons Music Co.
Fabulous, straight out of the box and arrived in tune! Read and watch the reviews, believe the hype. You won't hear a bad word against it. The only negative I found was someone did't like the headstock (which I love). This is an instrument way above its' price point in every regard. It feels quality, the sound is incredible. There's a very good video on Sires site with Mr Miller himself demonstrating it's scope. It's a very versatile instrument, the pre-amp is the same across the whole range and is quality schmutter, the sweepable mids let you fine tune your tone. And you can have it passive too and the option to string through or over the bridge. The rolled fretboard is the icing. I'd gig with this no messing, and can't wait to record with it. If I'd have had the cash, i'd have gone for a V7, but I am over the moon with this.Reviewed by Andertons Music Co.
Bought it as a second bass for the occasions when taking my Thumb Bass gives me too much anxiety. I have owned a Fender USA Jazz once and always liked the idea of a jazz but just found them irritating compared to how well made and thought out the Warwick is. This bass on the other hand is very good value. Its a little rough round the edges and needed quite a bit of setting up to get it right for me but it was playable straight out of the box just the action was quite high. The two things I am impressed by is the tone and the neck. Both of these have been really well thought out and make it (in my opinion) better than the Fender I had. At least I can adjust the truss rod without having to take the thing apart and it stays where I put it. The weight is subjective, yes it's heavier than a Fender, not by much though. However its like a feather compared to the vastly more expensive Warwick. So in conclusion this is great, you get a good bass that plays and sounds much better than the £320 I paid for it and I now have a Jazz bass that doesn't irritate me.Reviewed by Andertons Music Co.

Great service Great products received my products on time and no damages great guitar great case
This bass is amazing, it doesn't die out like a lot of other basses do. just like a-lox said i haven't had mine in a case since I've had it either and it has even taken a couple falls (other ppl not watching where they were walking) and it still works like it did the day i got it. only problem could be that since it's a V u can't really sit and play unless u put your leg between the two legs of the V but i prefer to stand anyways. i recomend this o any1.Briggsy80

Reviews:
I'll never see 70 again, and I finally got me a bass. When I was giggin' back in the stone age with a three piece band i jumped back and forth between lead and bass lines on my 6 string with the aid of a bass booster pedal. My dream was a bass/6 string double neck ax, but at the time I could buy a new car for the price of one of those. Then I managed to get the index finger on my left hand shattered. Only cure was to fuse all the joints so it wouldn't bend at all, and now the only thing it's good for is barre cords. I could still play lead and chords with a little practice, but a standard base was out of the question. The price was right so I thought I'd give one of these short scale jobs a try. Yeah, I know, the Squires have a bad rap with a lot of folk, but this is my third one (strat, tele) and for the price I haven't had much to complain about. For my very first bass, right out of the box, I was totally impressed. Plugged her in, tuned her up, and ran the scales all the way from the nut to the 17th fret with no fret buzz or water to wade in; set up was perfect. A little string squeak at first, but that soon disappeared. Tried every bass line I ever knew and had no trouble with only three fingers on my left hand. The controls on the guitar are rather limited, but with my amp (Fender rumble 15) and it's EQ and overdrive features I've got just about everything I need – 50's and 60's rock and country – and can throw in a little heavy metal if needed. I'm thinking that this baby would be perfect for a young persons first bass, or for anyone with short fingers or like me missing a finger, or arthritis, whatever. I am sure having a lot of fun with it. I work in a 11 x 11 foot room , so the strings needed a little damping – a couple of my grand daughters hair ties fixed that in no time. I could have performed with this back in the day.noshadow
I bought this because I have always been a big fan of the Mustang and Jaguar short scale basses. I am a guitarist and song writer and I have somewhat smaller hands, so I needed a comfortable bass that I could play for session gigs and our own recording. I own a fully modded Fender Telecast but I wasn't looking to spend fender money on a bass just yet. In the last few years Squire has really turned up the production, the bass has good weight, a very smooth and comfortable neck and fret board. Some people on here have talked about fret buzz, part of that has to do with how hard you play it, you'll get buzz on a full grown Pbass or a gibson Firebird if you play too hard, turn up the amp, turn down the fingers, lol. My only caveat, which I didn't count against my rating, is that the electronics are very introductory. The Pbass pickups are nice and fat, round and dynamic, but the Jazz pick up in the bridge leave more to be desired. Along those lines, the bass uses 250k pots. If you like the bass but want a little more, I found the replacement Seymour Duncan set online for 140 add 3 new 500k pots to that and you'll probably have ONE HECK OF A BASS. (this is what I'll be doing in the next month or so)Danny P
The biggest draw to this bass for me was the fact this bass has 20 frets. There aren't a ton of short scale basses available, let alone short scale basses with 20 frets. The last time I owned a short scale bass was probably 12 years or so ago, so I was pretty excited to give this bass a try when I finally got around to ordering it. I had never actually played one of these Jaguars, and since it based off the price, I was pretty nervous about the quality of it. Once the instrument arrived and I set it up, my fears were put to rest. Squier makes some great instruments, especially considering the price. The action is a tad high, but it isn't too bad. The split pickup sounds acceptable, but the bridge pickup is a little weak. I'm planning on replacing the bridge pickup for sure, but I might leave the precision pickup in there. I've replaced the pots with CTS pots, and replaced the cap with an Orange Drop. I also replaced the bridge with just a standard Fender Precision/Jazz bridge. The saddles on Squier passes are pretty horrible, and brass saddles can have a huge effect on the tone. The neck feels pretty great. The nut is the same width as a Jazz Bass, but since the Jaguar is a short scale, it ends up being thinner overall. For someone who prefers the comfort of a Precision Bass neck compared to a Jazz Bass neck's playability, this could be considered a bad thing. Overall, this bass is a great deal. Mine seems to be pretty much flawless, but even if it had a handful of flaws, it'd be hard to complain about them considering the price.Dan

Reviews:
If you are tired of searching for a professional sound buy this bass. I hated the mim fender deluxe model, but fender did something special with this bass. It has a clear piano like quality to it. My two sire basses sound like toys up against it. I have wasted so much money on lesser basses. I'm just trying to help my fellow bass players out there. Everyone says that I sound good playing my other basses, but there are certain ugly overtones that I don't want to hear in my bass. This bass doesn't have those unwanted frequencies, it is voiced beautifully. I know that most of tone is in the fingers, but at the end of the day you know what you want to hear. If you are an audiophile this is the bass for you. I have spent weeks demoing this bass and no matter what amp you run it through it sounds good. I played it at a church last week and all I can say is it was nasty. My wife ordered mine yesterday for my birthday and it's suppose to arrive today, fingers crossed.Eric
I've owned and played bass guitars for 30 years now and I've owned several fender basses and the myriad clones out there of the J and P basses. That history and background left me with a bias against fender and an eye for other "better" production guitars like the Stingray which is my other go-to bass. That being said, I am blown away by this bass. It is a SOLID instrument with no flaws or blemishes that I can detect. It came from the factory with an almost perfect setup. I had to make a minor intonation adjustment on the low B and E strings but the string height, pickup height, and neck position were perfect. Fender's Ultra Noiseless pickups (a stacked humbucker really) sound great in passive mode emphasizing a fat bottom end and the tone nob adds a good bit of mids. The highs are kinda meh for me but the active switch takes care of that and I can get as bright as I want. The 18v active preamp provides a lot of room to boost or cut low, mid, and high frequencies to get just about any sounds I want (I still prefer my Sting Ray if I want to get real funky). This is about the best sounding 5-string I've had. Most 5-strings sounds great as 4-strings and SUPER muddy when you work the low-b string but this bass brings it out without too much mud.T. DeWees
I bought this base back in April 2022. It sounds great and plays great. However, the front pickup recently quit all together. After a tech looked at it, it was discovered that it was a bad front pickup. It was beyond the store warranty, so I took it up with fender. After 2 weeks of going back and forth between them and the store that I bought it at, it was determined that fender would send the pickup to the technician if my choice and they would fix it. But it would take 30 days because they send it directly from the manufacturer. Which still boggles my mind, because the slowest mail would be less than a week? So my opinion of fender customer service has dropped considerably. A working musician doesn't have 30 days to do without their instrument. This is unacceptable. I decided to purchase the pickup myself. I can get it in the mail in 2 days, and put it in myself. However this is a great base if you happen to get one with good parts in itJerry

Reviews:
Came ready to play out of the box. String action was a tad high but a little tweaking with a string gauge and trial/error brought things down to my comfort zone. I really like the ability to switch the pickups from single to dual-coil configurations. The difference is clear and use both settings a lot depending on the song/genre I am playing at the time. I've been playing DR Coated strings for the last year and I found the Ernie Ball strings that came on the bass quite comfortable and good sounding. The neck is very smooth and comfortable. It is wider than my ESP 4 string but narrower than some other 5 strings I've played. The ebony fingerboard is solid and I only have trouble accessing the last fret on the low strings. Overall quality is excellent and I am very happy with bass. You get a hell of a lot of bass for a great price.Raisin'Hell Again
Everything I wanted it to be. Wished I would have got a 5 string sooner. Neck seems wider but, you get used to it almost immediately. Super tones high and low. Very nice quality as I expected. My 1st Schector. Strings low no buzz out of box. Tuning keys are good so far time will tell. Stays in tune like a quality axe should. Very satisfied, getting used to extra string but coming along fast…..loving the LOW B. Not super high end but very nice for the money. Color is sweet, very nice looking bass…. stays in tuneskibert
The Bass has everything I wanted. Tone-wise it is off the chart. Deep, well defined Low End all the way down the Low B, which is nice and tight. It packs beautiful highs as well. The EQ works great and give more tone shaping ability than most in much higher end basses. I like the push pull EMG's but they stay on Dual Coil most of the time. Still, what a powerful pickup. The bass has such a rich sound, that I feel like I can't do it justice. The sky is the limit for this thing. I feel like it can easily put to bed a lot of basses at twice the price. In the looks department, it has a sort of dark elegance that still impresses me everytime I open the case, 2 months after buying it. I fall more and more in love with this Bass. It shows me more and more evryday. Also, I had a question, and Schecter's support was great. I think if you play the Bass it will speak for itself. Anyone thinking of getting a Bass near this range, you may come to regret it if you don't look at this Bass. Nobody wants to realize the one they bought comes in second to one they didn't think about.Red87

Reviews:
With its wider neck comparatively to the jazz model it may appeal at first to the more aggressive style of player, however, it's powerful electronics responds well to the soft touch. Coming from years of playing the J line it took a little bit to get used to. So don't be too quick to judge after about a half an hour of play I fell in love with this Bass. The pick ups are superb and offer many dimensions of sound possibilities. this gutair will be a strong addition to my stable of work horses.Chef
This American Elite Dimension 5-string bass is everything I was hoping it would be. The tone is amazing, the playability is excellent and its incredible, and it's extremely versatile. It's got killer looks, solid electronics and great hardware. The pickups are stellar. The oiled neck feels so smooth; it's comfortable to play for hours. However, the second fret was nearly dead and the bass needed an extensive setup right out of the box. I don't mind doing certain maintenance but it did need a stop off at my local shop to get it to where it should be, which was quite a bummer. Still, I would absolutely recommend this bass. my issue was probably a fluke.Engineer Greg
I like this bass a lot. Criticisms are minor (for me) and pointed out here for those to whom it might matter more. I did a direct comparison to the Jazz, Precision, Gibson SG bass and Rick 4003s as well as a few other lesser known instruments in my stable. I have play for many years in a classic rock band in mostly smaller clubs. The contoured body is a welcome carry over from other Fender solid body basses. Like those, the balance is excellent with no neck dive. High mass bridge allows for good intonation and action adjustment.. Pegs are smooth and hold tune very well. Fret finishing is excellent as was the overall fit and finish of the entire instrument. I find the satin finish maple neck and finger board very comfortable. Neck width is slightly wider that the Jazz (closer to the Precision) but narrower that the chunkier Rick. The truss rod adjusts at the body via a wheel that can be easily turned with a narrow allen wrench WITHOUT loosening strings or removing the pick guard! Much easier and allows for a stronger headstock. This base has 21 frets instead of the 20 on the J or P basses. Welcome addition are the gloriously powerful and SILENT humbucking pickups. Much more powerful that any of the comparative basses and much more silent than the noisy Rick PUs. You won't get quite the high end of the Jazz, but it can still slap and pop with the best of them. PU heigh can be easily adjusted. A bit more work that The tone is great for my style of playing. One master tone may limit some other players. Like the Jazz, there is no PU switch. Instead, there is a volume pot for each PU. It's great for dialing in a blend. But, you need to turn down both volumes to silence this bass. Not an issue for me. But other players might prefer a master volume which would allow you to dial in that PU mix and leave it alone to turn off the volume.Honest John

I had been looking for a used Fender or Squier Dimension V, when I discovered ProAudioStars ridiculously cheap deal on a brand new one. I thought it was a misprint or that the bass was damaged, but it was the real deal. When I received it two days later, I took it out of the box, adjusted the intonation on the bridge, and commenced playing it for hours. 100% satisfaction! Ill be keeping my eye on future ProAudioStar deals.LuckyBeetle-21573
On par with the more expensive offerings from Squier. Nice bass!!!!!johnnypro
The active electronics are outstanding . After setting the bass up the way i like it (very low action) the bass played and sounded like a1000-1500 bass . Word of warning , if you play very close action some modifications to the bridge saddle is required , filing it to lower the height of the string saddle . You could put a spacer under the bottom of the neck but i like the most contact of the neck to the body so i modified the saddle . Tone and variety of sounds are outstanding . Fit and finish is superb .liliya13intn

I watched dozens of reviews of various Bass guitars of varying price ranges. This guitar sounds fantastic in whatever genre of music. This bass is everything that Dagan, of PMT, said it was. It looks great too. Watch his review here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VmJAYSbM2ZMGeoff W.
I've had mine for 1 year so far. Very nice. I have the natural wood looking style, which gets compliments all the time for musicians. The neck is smooth, easy to play. Sounds great. Down side is the active pre-amp drains batteries too fast. Even when set in passive, the battery will drain if it is plugged into an amp (even with the amp off). It will eat a 9V over night. So with that said, I never use the active setting, I just leave it in passive mode. You'd be better off getting a pre-amp pedal if you want that functionality.Michael
Wow, what a stunning bass this is! So much punch and grunt! The sound has so much depth, with beautiful lows and rich mids. Beautiful neck, slim and smooth to play. Sadly, I had to set the bass up when it arrived – AWFUL fret buzz, but no real big issue I guess. All in all, VERY impressed!Simon B.

Reviews:
It is a great entry level bass, and is actually not far from a pro level instrument. It is an outstanding value. I believe that it is worth more than the bass sells for. There isn't anything that actually needs to be changed on the bass, other than a good set up (to fine tune the action, etc.)and some better strings, if desired. I was surprised how well the bass played right out of the box. The bass looks amazing! I was able to see actual photos of the bass I ordered, and I could see it has a two piece body, with no serious knots or flaws visible. It's good to see what you're getting! There are lots of guys buying these basses, and then modifying them to their liking. It is a good platform for that kind of interest. (The bass has good bones.) But for someone just looking to get started on a 5 string, or someone on a budget, this bass KILLS! Buy one. Everything works well enough on this bass to make it a "keeper". The low cost will please you, especially when you start playing one.9033charles
I wanted to learn to play the bass but i didn't want to sink alot of money into an Made In America jazz bass in case i didnt like it. This bass is a great bass to learn on.

Schade, hatte mich so gefreut …

Reviews:
This is a beautiful well balanced instrument with outstanding tone flexibility. Both active and passive.I've had it a litte over a month and have not put it down. I had to have it set up out of the box but other than that it's exactly what they say it is. It has a lot of features that I see in the more expensive basses and it sounds, feels like the higher end basses that I own. I can gig and travel with this bass with no worries. Great value for the money. I'll be watching Michael kelly guitars to see what's next. I'm SOLD on this one.Mister Chandler

Très belle basse avec bonne acoustique. Assez facile à jouer, peux mériter quelques réglagesBobo
Quality product as you would expect. However needs tweaking in setting up. Arrived with action too low, even with truss rod fully cranked open. Fret buzz when played acoustically – which is the idea, isn't it, that it works unplugged? So I resorted to fitting a taller bridge nut that I happened to have in my guitar toolbox. Cured, and happy with it. But the moral is – you have to make it your own, and that might require some fiddling about. Also in my case I installed a homemade thumb rest, which assists my style and also aesthetically is an improvement on the unadorned plain body IMO. As a design piece, for me the advantage of the roundback is you can both see better what you're doing, with the bass tilted towards you, and feel the notes vibrating against your ribs as well as listening. So, an enjoyably organic experience, unplugged for accompanying something low volume. In the end does the job.ffretnot
This was a great find! Very easy to order and my acoustic bass shipped in days!!Nick
