I've tried all brands of strings to get the most sustain, most brightest sound, most output, and most balance. These are the closest I can find to that.These strings are extremely warm for being steel core. That have the most balanced sound I've ever heard. Being a power player, I brake strings pretty easy, but with these, it takes a lot more to get these to snap. They last so much longer than any other string! For being the strongest strings, they're also extremely flexible and easy to play. Sustain in these strings surpass many other brands. The strings I played before were Rotosound Reds. Now those, I must admit, had more "jangle" and twang in it's sound (think The Jam, Oasis, early Pete Townshend), but they lacked sustain, would break easy, and didn't sound very balanced. The features on these Powerbrites outweigh what the Reds had to offer. It's a no brainer.Overall, I recommend these strings to anybody who plays rock and uses nickelplated steel. You'll hear the awesome quality within the first strum of your guitar after you've put these on. Yes they're expensive, but well worth the money!Modernist

I went through several different brands and gauges when I began experimenting with flatwound strings several years ago. I settled on Thomastik Infeld as the best brand and this as the best gauge for my needs. This brand is definitely worth paying more for if you want to play with flats. I have had the same set on my primary guitar for more than 3 years and I really didn't even need to change them yet when I bought these ones. I use them on my ES-175. I have Seth Lover pickups, which are a bit brighter compared with Gibson pickups so I needed really dark sounding strings. These strings do the work very well. The strings are very well balanced. In fact, I don't think I have ever experienced more balanced strings than these. Yes, they are very expensive; however, the touch is fantastic and the sound is amazing. For my ears, they last for a bit more than 2 weeks before the sound goes away… however, if someone is playing a lot solos, one can keep 'em longer. They will actually sound a bit darker when they get old on solos but the sound on chords will lose its definition.Loopio
I have always played D'Addario Chromes on my Ibanez AF155 and have always tweaked for the tone that I could never find… hours of tweaking! (I have actually considered selling the guitar for this reason.) After some investigation, I tried a set of these strings and can not believe the difference. Instead of tweaking to find an acceptable tone, I play guitar. Wonderful classic warm jazz tone with your tone pots on the low end to an almost "acoustic guitar full" as you set the tone pot higher. The tone is rich and full. The feel is much smoother than the Chromes, they feel great. The strings are more consistent in output from string to string. A good sounding set. But if you are putting this set on a short scale Rickenbacker 325, be aware. I was bending an end of the high E string 0.13 to create an acute angle to hook onto the tremolo bar.The end ball popped out of the string loop. It was difficult to put it back together. I think it's a design flaw. The high E string had a too much slack around the ball end. I would give it a few more turns on high E ball end before I start making a sharp hook again.hkat2310

I have been playing the guitar (mostly electric) for over forty years and have used or tried most strings on the market. I find these strings extremely durable ( I don't think that I have ever broken one, and have been using them for around five years). They last a long time, I am just getting around to changing them on all nine of my guitars, it has been at least three months. I play each guitar a lot, mostly at Blues/Jazz Jam's in and around Vancouver BC. I love the vintage grummble I get with these Baby's, I play mostly Rocking Blues and Texas Blues and find them second to none. They are very expensive however if you can afford them get them! Ok I normally use Infeld Super Alloys 10-48 on my Lesters but grabbed a set of these 9-43 for my 74 Strat (just love 9s on that guitar). Got them on and tuned up and lit into them. I'm a fan!!! These silk inlay and brass coated babies are unbelievably great! A bit pricy buuut. Amazing strings that you will notice instantly, and no I don't get squat for saying so. recreational, occasion performance. put on my gibson J-15. i normally play 11's exilrs but wanted to give these a try since i got a 10$ off coupon from GC. these already sounded broken in once i put them on. i've seen a lot of other review that say they last so we'll see. i've found the more spendy strings get replaced less so when they sound so nice i can justify the cost.Eric
I had these strung on a Gibson J45. It's about a few weeks in of medium-light play. So far, they're great. Tonally though, they don't really seem much different than the Curt Mangans that I've had before. It really comes down to cost. If they last much longer than the Curt Mangans or John Pearses, then they are definitely worth it, or at least interchangable. If not, then you may be better saving your money on the CMs or JPs. And I say this as a huge fan of the TI flatwounds for electrics. They also feel a little stiffer, and harder to slide your fingers (bluegrass style) on the lower strings. But maybe that's why they're more durable?Alex

I've used Thomastik Flats on several guitars and basses (in appropriate gauges for different ones) for decades now. They are expensive, but also last a very long time with reasonable care so still deserve 'value-for-money' rating. Superb feel when playing, and to my ears and taste (bit of a jazzer) very good sound too. Once bridge saddles appropriately adjusted (they seem to need less end-correction than others) intonation is great. Highly recommended.JHS, C. i. S.
In 20 years of playing, I've broken plenty of strings right out of the package. The other reviewer must not change his strings much. I discovered flat wound strings several years ago, and I will never go back. Thomasik flat wounds are infinitely more comfortable on the fingers than standard strings. The first time I played them, I got a perfect vintage 60s sound that I had been trying to get out of other strings for a lifetime. Use them on a Strat and my SG. I tried these last year to see if they were worth the extra price. They are!!! I have had three sets now and I am about to order another for a new Jazz guitar I just got. One set went to my Son who plays a vintage ES-175. The feel, sound and the durability are better than anything else I have tried. For mucho dinero a set, I bought these supposed "flatwound" strings for my classical guitar after reading all the rave reviews to eliminate the scrithy sound on the low E, A, and D. Bought 2 sets before trying them out. Well, the Thomastik KR-116s are really round wounds using "unique construction" as false advertising. They are round wound, not flatwound. I use flatwounds on my Gibson ES-175 so I know the difference. They tuned up really fast and keep tune. The feel and sound on the high G, B, and E is weirdly rough after full nylons due to the "unique" construction using what looks like graphite materials. The sustain is ok and the tone is not bad but not worth the high price. All 6 strings have ball ends which is very handy for stringing. If you like the sweet sound of nylons and want flatwound low E, A, and D strings, these are not what you're looking for.Greg

Everything good you've heard about these bass strings rings true. They sound terrific, are a joy to play, easy on your fingers, last a very long time plus enhance the tone and playability of just about any bass guitar you own. I am a definite fan of TI Flats and urge anyone who hasn't yet but is thinking about trying a set to do so. However, here's the not-so-good side of this brand of strings. They are expensive! Excessively so in my book and by the looks of things are continuing to rise in price. Does the cost justify the benefit? The only real and unique quality that TI Jazz Flats have over any other brand of bass flatwound strings I've played is, they are truly kind to your fingers. With plenty of give this is the only flat bass string I've used that after extended play don't hurt my fingers.. If it were only tone I was going after, and really wanted that vintage vibe on my Fender or other type of bass, I'd go with Fender Flats which to my ear sound a bit better overall and at about 1/4th the price are unbeatable. As with everything else, there are trade-offs. I've been playing for over 45 years and in that time have burned through a many a set of strings. TI Jazz Flats are a definite winner for those that are into the vintage side of bass guitar tone and want a string that is long lasting plus go easy on your chops. I recommend them for now but am keeping a watchful eye on their price. Enough Already!Rick
I really like the sound! One of a kind. Low mid/mid focussed, very musically sounding strings. They bark and cut trough a four piece band (one guitarist and a loud drummer) pretty good. But beware, theses are very flexible strings and if you are looking for stiff strings and really dig in…maybe you should skip these. Or, try to adept and change your right hand force of playing. And when you do… you’ll love them. They’re on my Fender Original 60’s P-bass (stock). Good luck!
Best flats i’ve ever purchased. These will be living on my bass for years to come! I have found that a lot of cheaper flatwounds tend to have an ugly, scoopy character in the midrange- whereas these guys are really well balanced. Clarity and tone across the board is great, E sings clear. I had to adjust my playing a little as the tension is pretty low at first, but as they’ve settled, they’ve firmed up a little and proven to be very comfortable. This is a set of strings made to live on the instrument for years, and as they settle in on the bass, they sound better and better. Would absolutely reccomend!Reviewed by Andertons Music Co.

I put these on a modified Jaguar-styled guitar with P-90's. These TI's were a higher gauge than I normally use (.09's in round-wound), so adjustments to the whammy were necessary, no problem. Slightly quieter than round-wounds (so I raised the neck pickup a bit). These strings have a great tone, crank the reverb and go surfin'. Plus they are easy on the fingers when you are moving around on the neck..Deter
I've been playing guitar for over 20 years. On my solid bodies I use D'Addario nickel wound 10s. I even use them for my Semi-hollow bodies. I've never really liked flatwound strings so I just put some 11s on those.. I acquired a couple of spruce top guitars and put D'Addario flatwounds on them. I liked the feel but the sound wasn't quite what I wanted. I read that George Benson used his own set of Thomastiks. I thought they were a little expensive so I was hesitant. Curiosity finally got the best of me so I bought a set of flatwound 11s. Put them on my Epiphone Broadway. They felt and sounded so great I ordered another set and put them on an Eastman AR810-CE. These strings caused both guitars to project so much more acoustically that I can not play the Eastman at night while others are sleeping unless I use my thumb!! I have been playing guitars for over 40 yrs. These are the best strings I have ever used both on my hollow bodies and solid body guitars. I would recommend that if you are a novice or a professional musician invest your money in a good set of Thomastik-Infeld guitar strings, the sound you will received is so sweet and mellow when you want it but crank up that amp and you will be pleasantly surprised to hear that heavy metal sound. Try all of Thomastik-Infeld strings and see which ones are for you. These strings work well for me, as a finger style guitarist ( ironically, I'm not a plectrum user at all – perhaps they're badly named?). They keep their tone longer than other silk core strings I've tried, and seem more stable, staying in tune, so I need to change them less often. A light, bright sound but with adequate bass.Jane H.
These strings are amazing, the best sound and feel. I love these strings, even and balanced. The best strings for fingerpicking. Sounds wonderful on a all solid wood guitar btw. I keep buying these because I can't find anything better; after trying brand after brand for 40+ years, these suit better than any other. I'm a finger-style player with an Everett Milano-C; the responsiveness and sustain on these strings is amazing. (I habitually "pick" with my fret hand and the strings make it effortless.) They also record beautifully. Pricey? Yup (but they're pretty affordable at Musicians' Friend). They won't last long if you're an aggressive flat-picker, but I'm sure it'll be a gas while it lasts. I love the fat sound of the heavy strings best but, I am a smaller player, use a versatile Gibson ES 345 and find the lighter strings work best for me for that purpose. I even enjoy the look and the feel but wish they sold strings separately or included an extra 1st and/or 2nd string because they usually receive the most use, stretching and bending during solos.Mr. J aka Ernie Motown
I've only had them a few weeks, but I'm more than pleased. Previously I had flat wounds for about half the price which I consider to be garbage. I just love the rich sound and ease of playing. Been use these strings for a couple of years and they still sound great. When I first installed them, one at a time ,I was amazed at how "hot" they were compared to the Fender Rounds that I had on previously. Since purchasing my Ric 4003-S bass new 26 years ago, there's been that '60s Ric bass tone in my head, which has eluded me until now.
