Squier Vintage Modified Jaguar Electric Bass Guitar Special For Sale (2024 Update)

For a budget bass, the Squier VM Jaguer SS is surprisingly good. Mine was good right out of the box. The action was good, just needed tuning, and I was good to go. Even with the "cheaper", non-Duncan designed pickups that are available on the full-scale model, the sound is surprinsingly good. I really like the P&J p/u configuration. Much better than it's muddy-sounding main competitor, the Epiphone EBO (I had one). If the EB-3 was available in a SS model, the Epi would give the Jag SS a real run for it's money. Both SS's are an absolute blast to play. If you like a thin neck, this bass is for you. It's much more like a guitar then a bass. For me, there is no easier playing bass. But if you love the neck on a big old Fender P, then it probably won't be. Quality is very good too, considering the price. Don't let the Squier name scare you away. It's much better than an Affinity I played quite awhile ago. I'd say it's closer in quality to a MIM model, but not quite as good (a bass 3x the price!). Don't get me wrong, if you are a "serious" player who is gigging every weekend, and have the money for a more expensive bass, this would not be your main axe, that's for sure. For example, I had the MIJ Fender Deluxe Jaguar, and you can certainly feel and hear the difference in quality. Too bad that model isn't offered in a SS. However, if you happen to be low on cash, are a novice, have small hands, or are a converted guitar player, the VM Jag SS is a very capable gigging bass.Hardrockn

Squier has come a long way of real lame feeling, poor quality, and cheap pickups. The first thing I noticed right off the bat out of the box is that it was perfectly set up. Maybe toward the 12th fret down the frets might have a little bit of an edge but unless your a cry baby, this wouldnt bother you haha. Next, the pickups are pretty good considering you just bought a squier. It sounds pretty good with both on, and the bridge pickup is very musicman like when it comes to treble. The pbass pickup it'snt amazing but it sounds like a traditional pbass but without much body. The eletronics are what make or break this instrument. You have a volume for each pickup and a master tone. But the Bass Boost knob makes any "thin" sound you might experience into the house shaking from a full tone bass. Adjusting your eq as needed to have the mids stand out a little more and everyone can hear you loud and clear with the best tone you can get from this instrument. The Body is basswood, and coming from only using mahogany, it sounds kinda "brighter" as opposed to the dark sounding mahogany instruments. It's also not as heavy as other 5 string IMO. I personally replaced the pbass style pickup and added a delano one (required filing the pickguard) and play at Eb standard. My only complaint is that the human ear can only hear a note so much, so an open B string will have the note kinda "fall out". I use the B string at the 5th fret to have more notes to play in a given time. I recommend this bassradicalsurge

When I was giggin' back in the stone age with a three piece band i jumped back and forth between lead and bass lines on my 6 string with the aid of a bass booster pedal. My dream was a bass/6 string double neck ax, but at the time I could buy a new car for the price of one of those. Then I managed to get the index finger on my left hand shattered. Only cure was to fuse all the joints so it wouldn't bend at all, and now the only thing it's good for is barre cords. I could still play lead and chords with a little practice, but a standard base was out of the question. The price was right so I thought I'd give one of these short scale jobs a try. Yeah, I know, the Squires have a bad rap with a lot of folk, but this is my third one (strat, tele) and for the price I haven't had much to complain about. For my very first bass, right out of the box, I was totally impressed. Plugged her in, tuned her up, and ran the scales all the way from the nut to the 17th fret with no fret buzz or water to wade in; set up was perfect. A little string squeak at first, but that soon disappeared. Tried every bass line I ever knew and had no trouble with only three fingers on my left hand. The controls on the guitar are rather limited, but with my amp (Fender rumble 15) and it's EQ and overdrive features I've got just about everything I need – 50's and 60's rock and country – and can throw in a little heavy metal if needed. I'm thinking that this baby would be perfect for a young persons first bass, or for anyone with short fingers or like me missing a finger, or arthritis, whatever. I am sure having a lot of fun with it. I work in a 11 x 11 foot room , so the strings needed a little damping – a couple of my grand daughters hair ties fixed that in no time. I love this bass! The looks of the burst are stunning and the Jaguar body is so cool! I love having both types of pickups, very versatile. The thing that got me was the boost circuit. What should've been a way to get a little more OOMPH turned into a noisy nightmare, it never sounded quite right engaged or not, so I decided to open her up and tear the boost circuit out and replace the pot with the output jack. YES! What a difference! Who thought it was a good idea to put the jack on the edge of the body? Straight cables stick out and get whacked, right angled cables twist, it makes no sense to me. If you think the boost is just eh, DO LIKE ME. P pickup is awesome and punchy, jazz pickup is a little noisy. Planning to replace with a Seymour Duncan set.Dr. Scruggs

I bought one of these for my 14 year old son (now 15) to learn on. I've been playing bass for many years, and wanted him to have something of his own that would get him through the early stages (from never even picking one up; through lessons and beyond). I tried a good number of basses in this price range when shopping for him, and this one really is a nice bass. I have an American Standard Fender Jaguar bass, and while this isn't quite on that level, it's a nice bass it its own right. Having the Fender meant that I could try them side by side, and I can vouch for the workmanship on the Squier. I happily gigged a Squier CV for some time, so I don't buy into label snobbery. The one I got for him had a great set up, great neck, and quiet electronics. Highly recommended. I noticed in these reviews that some had poor set-ups from the factory. Just because a bass isn't set up properly doesn't mean it's a bad bass. With a good set up these things are wonderful.Tallbloke

This is a fantastic full-sized bass (be aware they make a short version usually with an SS designation and about $50 less). It has a C shape maple neck that just fits and feels perfect in your hand. The rosewood fretboard has 20 medium jumbo frets – you have to stretch those fingers out. The body is basswood which resonates nicely. Maybe the best thing about this bass is it comes with a split Single-Coil Precision bass pickup and a Single-Coil Jazz bass pickup. You can go for either the classic Fender P bass sound or the J Bass sound or use both for astonishing clarity. There is also active bass boost control, a master tone control, and separate volume levels for each set of pickups. The action is pretty low the only drawback being you'd better be precise on the upper frets to avoid a bit of buzz. You might could make some minor adjustment to avoid this, but if you are fretting it right, it isn't a problem. I'd highly recommend it for beginners, but I wouldn't be ashamed taking it to gigs either. It's a Squire made by Fender, but it isn't a Fender. It's made in Indonesia, not in California, but then that is why it doesn't cost so much. A Fender Precision or Jazz Bass can run 2 grand and a Dimension about $1400.I gave it 4 stars rather than 5 simply because it isn't a Fender. Fora Squire it's definitely a 5 star. This is a dream come true. I've been playing guitar for 50+ years and have always heard about Short Scale (SS) basses that were very well suited for guitarists who want to play bass. This is a great value. I got the Performer Pak that included the $39 gig bag for only $10 additional. What a Deal!! This bass plays great and the Jazz style control configuration is nice for blending the tone. I'll be keeping this one around. I really like this guitar. I purchased the Squier ss Jaguar because I'm a short scale addict and the price was right. I had to make the full gamut of usual adjustments out of the box, and the bass plays just fine now. Stock strings weren't my style; even with a string change and some height adjustment, it''s difficult to get a full sound out of the pickups. I had to really crank the mids on my amp to simultaneously get some definition and oomph. Still, I'll have a lot of fun breaking it in over the next month. I like the flamboyant silver finish and painted headstock; fretwork feels fine, and it sits comfortably (maybe the slightest bit of neck dive) with a wide leather strap. The bass didn't wow me as an instrument outperforming it's price range, but, with a sale price or coupon, it's a good short scale choice for a minimal budget.Michael

I am a guitarist and song writer and I have somewhat smaller hands, so I needed a comfortable bass that I could play for session gigs and our own recording. I own a fully modded Fender Telecast but I wasn't looking to spend fender money on a bass just yet. In the last few years Squire has really turned up the production, the bass has good weight, a very smooth and comfortable neck and fret board. Some people on here have talked about fret buzz, part of that has to do with how hard you play it, you'll get buzz on a full grown Pbass or a gibson Firebird if you play too hard, turn up the amp, turn down the fingers, lol. My only caveat, which I didn't count against my rating, is that the electronics are very introductory. The Pbass pickups are nice and fat, round and dynamic, but the Jazz pick up in the bridge leave more to be desired. Along those lines, the bass uses 250k pots. If you like the bass but want a little more, I found the replacement Seymour Duncan set online for 140 add 3 new 500k pots to that and you'll probably have ONE HECK OF A BASS. (this is what I'll be doing in the next month or so)Danny P

The last time I owned a short scale bass was probably 12 years or so ago, so I was pretty excited to give this bass a try when I finally got around to ordering it. I had never actually played one of these Jaguars, and since it based off the price, I was pretty nervous about the quality of it. Once the instrument arrived and I set it up, my fears were put to rest. Squier makes some great instruments, especially considering the price. The action is a tad high, but it isn't too bad. The split pickup sounds acceptable, but the bridge pickup is a little weak. I'm planning on replacing the bridge pickup for sure, but I might leave the precision pickup in there. I've replaced the pots with CTS pots, and replaced the cap with an Orange Drop. I also replaced the bridge with just a standard Fender Precision/Jazz bridge. The saddles on Squier passes are pretty horrible, and brass saddles can have a huge effect on the tone. The neck feels pretty great. The nut is the same width as a Jazz Bass, but since the Jaguar is a short scale, it ends up being thinner overall. For someone who prefers the comfort of a Precision Bass neck compared to a Jazz Bass neck's playability, this could be considered a bad thing. Overall, this bass is a great deal. Mine seems to be pretty much flawless, but even if it had a handful of flaws, it'd be hard to complain about them considering the price.Dan

Overall, this is a good guitar. I'm having a good time with it, the neck is comfortable, the pickups sound really good and handle high-ish gain surprisingly well, and the color (I got the Daphne blue) looks incredible. Taken as a whole, if you're in the market for a Jazzmaster with all the classic JM features but don't have a ton of money to spend, I'd recommend it for sure. If you're going to buy it though, just be aware of a few things… 1.) It'll need a setup. Out of the box, the tuning stability was fine but once I used the vibrato a little bit, it went way out. The action wasn't bad but could be better and the neck may need a half degree shim. I'm probably going to end up putting a Fender AVRI vibrato on it eventually but a decent setup should make the stock one perfectly usable. 2.) It needs a good cleaning. This could very well just be the specific one that I got but the neck and headstock had a lot of dust and a slightly cloudy residue on them, the fretboard was very dry, and the frets were scratchy. None of these were anything that a little lemon oil, fretboard conditioner, a microfiber cloth, and some 0000 steel wool couldn't take care of but it's still something to be aware of. Note though that, while the frets were scratchy, their weren't any sharp fret ends. 3.) It probably isn't a great first guitar. I've seen this said a few times in other reviews and I completely agree. That's not to say that it isn't a good guitar because it is. More that it's not the most user-friendly instrument right away and could be off-putting to a beginner. A pro setup will do it a world of good and make it much easier to play but if you're in the market for a first guitar, look elsewhere. Am I glad I bought it? Yes. I mean, it's a Daphne blue Jazzmaster with a comfortable neck and awesome pickups! I don't mind working on my guitars a bit though, so none of the problems I talked about above bother me in particular. However, if you're looking for a plug-in-and-play guitar right out of the box, this one might not be for you.Jackson

I waiting on this on backordered for a few months (shell pink) and started to worry after looking at a bunch of YouTube reviews. Action, fret ends and leveling were great out of the box (which I really am not up for fixing; esp on a bound fingerboard). Frets could prob use a polish, but that's a lesser concern to me. No shim needed with 09s so far. I feel like recent shipments corrected some of the common complaints of this line… YMMV. I think the the nut is pinching a bit and the trem pivot is jumping a bit so I might go in and see if I can smooth it out. Pickups are microphonic under gains and comp… and I'm not sure if they are RWRP yet. One of the reason I went with MF is that if I wasn't satisfied I could go right into GC and trade towards and CV Jazzmaster. But overall pretty satisfied and think this will be a good first offset and short scale add to the collection.David

I want to love this guitar. Unfortunately however, I will have to be taking this one to a luthier to be set-up due to the neck. Everything for the most part is beautiful, it's a Jazzmaster. Fantastic dark, spanky jazzmaster tones, beautiful tortoise-shell guard, and the very eye-catching very elusive shell pink finish. Switches all seem to be in working order, though due to the position of the neck pickup to the strings right out of the box, the rhythm circuit will be noticeably quieter. Easy fix. I am unsure about the stability of the bridge, which is a Mustang bridge- a HUGE improvement, as I've seen in other reviews that the screwposts loosen by vibration. Vibrato does not return to tune. There is a very strange, unclean grime of some sort on the metal plate of the vibrato piece. I was unfortunate enough to receive a poorly conditioned neck, with glue residue left behind surrounding the tuning pegs on the face of the headstock. The lacquer finish is beautiful and is fine to play on. The fretboard is noticeably dry as well as the frets are unfinished, both feeling scratchy, and the frets being too rough to perform clean bends on. Not sure if it's the neck, the frets, or the bridge piece, or any of the three in combination that is causing the strings to be unable to bend even a half note without losing vibration, or being pinched off. Fret markers are a dark, cheap pearl. Overall, the fretboard itself just feels like Squier Affinity line quality. My impression is that most of the cost of this guitar- to keep it in line with the technologically cheaper instruments (telecaster the same price as a jazz, etc)- went into the body finish, and electronics. However, in the end I still love this thing and cannot wait to hear it sing once I get it set-up.Tyler

My experience- The fit and finish is great. I didn’t have any setup issues as I’ve read here. Sounds great. Everything was set up perfectly even matched the fender setup guidelines I looked up. I didn’t have to do anything other than some lemon oil on the fretboard, and I run flats so I put new strings on. Really impressed with the bass. The necks the same as a jazz but medium scale. Rolling off the tones and bridge pickup volume I’m in Motown mode, or crank the jazz bridge and you can get close to Jaco tone. Very versatile bass. I will probably put a hi mass bridge on and I like the stacked knobs but they have some rough feeling spots when turning them, I’ll probably upgrade those at some point with fender parts. Happy with the purchase and definitely recommend the bass and AMS to anyone.Chris

Very happy with my purchase only regretting that I haven't bought it earlier! Straight out of box was perfect. Well set up and playable. Packaged very well every detail is on spot! Sound-amazing punchy heavy sound even too many options for me. Variety of the sound is up on you cause knobs are fantastic (tone, volume controls) Feel / external – looks fantastic and any time can change pickguard to upgrade. The saddles on Squier passes are pretty horrible, and brass saddles can have a huge effect on the tone. The neck feels pretty great. The nut is the same width as a Jazz Bass, but since the Jaguar is a short scale, it ends up being thinner overall. For someone who prefers the comfort of a Precision Bass neck compared to a Jazz Bass neck's playability, this could be considered a bad thing. Overall, this bass is a great deal. Mine seems to be pretty much flawless, but even if it had a handful of flaws, it'd be hard to complain about them considering the price.Dan

Purchased the Fender Player Jazz bass. Overall great looks and sound, but some quality issues from the Fender Mexico factory (not Andertons' fault): – First bass had very clear weird uneven blemish under the varnish on the sunburst body. Not awful, but if I was in-store I would never have chosen that particular item. Returned and swapped by Andertons, no quibbles. Second bass arrived. Overall happy, sounds great, but still a few issues with quality control and design. – Control plate was missing 2 screws and was moving around – how does that get through Fender quality control? Replacement screws sent free of charge by Andertons. – Nut has not been slotted correctly – high G must have been passed through a machine and slipped, string is clearly a couple of mm too close to fretboard edge and you can see the failed first pass. Doesn't really affect playability, but is annoying and I will get it corrected at some point. Again, points to poor quality control. – Fretboard (Pau Ferro) is really thin – on the Player series, at least. Neck fret dot markers in white are half over the mid-dark fretboard, half over the light maple neck. Very hard to see in low light levels. OK, so they're just an indicator for position, but the design isn't great. So overall, the bass sounds great and Andertons service was very good. …and falls in love. Let me start by saying I actually have owned one other P-Bass. I had a 50s reissue Precision, but honestly the neck was just too thick for my liking after years of playing Jazz basses. Honestly, it felt thicker than the neck on my Yamaha 5-string. So, I picked this bass up after always dancing around getting what would be considered a more standard P-Bass. I have a 70s Jazz with a ton of modifications, I've had quite a few other brands of basses, but I wanted to see what the fuss was about. I ordered this a few weeks ago, and have been very pleasantly surprised. The action was pretty good out of the box. I adjusted it a bit, made a few tiny tweaks to the intonation, and now it's super smooth. And, on the pickups, let me say it's a great sounding bass. Pickups are clear, bass sounds great. I play through a little Ampeg Micro cabinet. Earlier this week, I bought some Flats to throw on it (because that's what you do with a P-bass, right?) and now it's quickly becoming one of my favorite instruments to jam with. It really cuts through the mix when playing in a group. I see why folks really love the sound of a precision. My Jazz still has it's place, but man, I really like the sound of this bass. The Player P is a great value for what you get. I've never owned an older MIM, but I research the heck out of pretty much any purchase I make, and it looks like Fender really stepped it up with this rendition of their MIM Precision basses. Good tone out of the box, no discernible pickup noise, good action, a beautiful neck, and a Tidepool Blue finish that just shines and shines.Dennis F

Purchased this guitar thinking that I could cross a lot of musical boundaries. Installed new strings and allowed for substantial break-in but the limitations began to surface after attempting a second intonation and realized you get what you pay for. With even a Mexican Strat or tele the limitations are minimal and I have handily moved from ballads to jazz and raunchy rock. The Squier series would be fine in the mix with other instruments. Just dont expect a silk purse from a sow's ear. Not going to happen. I have heard of a lot of players buying better necks and switching them out. So that is one option and for a Jaguar today you are probably going to save 2-300.00 by going that route as opposed to moving up to the MIM Jag Special series which is in 900.00 range. Conclusion. This is a fine entry level guitar.Randall

For the price I think this is a pretty damn good guitar. It came nicely finished with no visible cosmetic issues. Set up well out of the box and accurately intonated. Plays well and sounds very Jaguar like – suitably bright and dark in the right places using the many switch combinations. Once tuned, perfectly playable out of the box. Of course it looks a beast too. The pickups seem qood quality. Machine heads are perfectly serviceable and it holds tune reasonably well for a guitar with a trem system that allows such deep dives. The frets are well finished, sufficiently level and not rough at the ends (although they could be always be better, if being really, really picky). 12th fret action was around 2mm (0.080") and comfortably playable (nut end is a slightly different matter, see below). Only negatives or areas that need attention are the strings, nut and bridge (all well known issues if you do a Google search). It comes with a very light set of 9s – from what I've read Fender originally intended Jaguars to have 11s, so that's what I've now fitted. The nut is cut conservatively high, particulalry on the heavier strings, so could do with some filing to make really super comfortable (not something the inexperienced should probably have a stab at without some research and the – expensive – correct tools). I replaced the nut with a Zero Glide zero fret system and the action is now very low and comfy. Not the easist or indeed the most difficult job (some skills and tools required) but the benefits are manifold – I like a zero fret anyway. The ('Mustang' style – no string jumping like the earlier type) bridge is designed to float back and forth when using the trem – that's fine and works OK but after (only) playing for a few hours I found it had sunk down on the height adjusting screws (i.e. the screws are effectivley loose and due to the vibrations wind themselves up over time) causing too low action, loss of tuning and string buzz. Once all set-up to my liking and at the correct height I applied a drop of loctite to the bottom of the threads to just stop them moving too freely. One other thing is that the neck PU doesn't seem to want to adjust up very much – not yet taken it apart to see why exactly that is or if even it supposed to be like that. Doesn't seem to affect the sound for now though. In summary: great value, good enough out of the box and with a little set-up/some mods or the attention of a luthier not that far off a 'real' Fender Jaguar, for a fraction of the price. I've had vintage semi/hollow bodys before and I like this slightly non-standard solid body. A good project for somebody who likes/wants to tinker and end up with a really good playing/sounding guitar at the end (but isn't too shabby to start with) and that doesn't look like yet another Tele, Strat or Les Paul.Mr D. For the life of me I can't understand how the bass vi spent so much time in the shadows of obscurity. This is the most useful bass I've ever played: in the right hands it fills the gap in the chordal range that usually is missing between guitar & bass. I'm talking about chords usually reserved for the piano. Its just amazing to open up this end of the spectrum. As a straight bass the low end is all the way there, guitar players should be advised: you can definitely blow out your guitar amp with this thing. It is a bass and can cover all of the bass's traditional roles. The cons: it is a Squier so dont expect the cleanest finish. Mine came with some irregularites in the neck finish but the neck is straight and it played pretty well right out of the box. The binding on the neck is a little sloppy but minor and purely cosmetic. My volume pot came jacked & only useful for the last quarter turn but thats an easy fix. PUPs sound better than I expected and dont need to be upgraded. I will replace the bridge before anything else. All in all for the money you cant beat this instrument. Stoked Squier made this instrument affordable with the classic jazzmaster/ jag looks.Lazybullet

The Squier Bass VI materials and workmanship are excellent, its sound is clear, strong and extremely variable. It plays great, feels good to hold and while covering anything a regular bass can do, offers an upper extension even to chording. Personal setup is quick and easy. The supplied .024-.084 round wound strings sound and play well though the E6 can be a bit slappy and requires a bit of finesse to master cleanly. However, LaBella offers custom round wound and .026-.095 flat wound sets and the neck responds well to truss rod adjustments so the bass is not a one trick pony nor limited in usefulness. The only conundrum concerns installing the Trem Arm. There is no user guide in print or online to describe its installation. It doesn't screw in and no matter how hard pushed into its collar, it just won't fit into the internal collet. So far, query to Fender has been acknowledged but unanswered, but they do have a toll-free support line which is the next course of action. As one experienced with vintage American Jaguars and knowledgeable of these Trem Systems and Fender in general, I find this unusual but just a bump on the road to sonic bliss. This is an incredible deal on a vintage type reissue of the Fender VI and overall, as well as in all the usual specific respects, the instrument is excellent and of the highest order.Larz

Opened and found a beautiful instrument that played pretty well before set up. All finishes were good with the exception of a slightly noticeable marking on the lower body(mine is white). BUT, this instrument is so well made otherwise, it's not worth complaining about. I performed a slight neck adjustment that was easy to perform. Neck finger board action is great. Tone is where instrument really shines. It has three pickups and with the combinations, the sounds are varied and complex. There is a forth switch which changes the bass dynamics keeping the tones brighter for a very haunting sound. I'm primarily a guitar player that uses drop "D" for tune choices. This new guitar gives me all the other creative choices I wished for further expanding my playing options. The only complaint I have is the Fender bass case that was recommended by MF that I purchased that can not be used with this guitar as it had a molded interior that prevents the guitar from fitting inside at all. MF needs to know their product better before making such a recommendation. I am confident MF will get me the proper hard shell case for it since Fender is now advertising one specifically for it. Bass came out of the box needing a minor trust rod adjustment, about 1/8 turn, and that was in. Perfectly intonated, action super low, NO and I repeat NO high frets, and zero fret sprout. Plays like a dream and sounds good. I may update the pick ups at some point down the road just because I prefer dimarzio. But these sound fine for stock. Why anyone would pay almost 3x as much for a Mexican J bass is beyond me. Oh, it doesn't say Fender… Also got it on sale for 279.00 a no brainier, Best buy of the year for my collection.MIKE

PROs: Vintage Fender tones, modern tones, bright and sparkly, dark and fat, punchy and mellow. Awesome looks, totally digging the combination of yellow natural wood texture, the black elements (binding, block inlays, etc ) and silver hardware. The finish is impeccable to my eyes and fingers. Affordable. Noiseless with both pickups open, very mild hum with just one pickup open. CONs: I regularly have to do truss rod adjustments because action seems to perceptibly vary with temperature. Somewhat neck heavy (balanced by the weight of my right hand resting with the thumb on the neck pickup). Had to file down the string grooves in the nut because the string height at the nut was noticeably higher than at the 1st fret. 18 mm string separation at the bridge feels too wide for me although it is not wide as the bass guitars go and I'm still thinking about whether to replace the bridge or get used to it.andbala-92

Purchased this Telecaster Deluxe in December of 2016 thinking I was going to have to modify and update it. I was wrong! The only thing I had to change was the input jack which is pretty standard on Telecasters. It did that "giggle loose" thing and quickly and cheaply replaced it. After putting my preferred gauge strings and a nice set up…it plays amazing. Just as well, if not better then a guitar three times this price. Pick ups sound really good. They cut through really well in a band situation with ease…makes my Marshall really sing. I really love this guitar…very pleasantly surprised. I'm a Gibson guy and wanted to try something different but with a humbucker and fixed tail piece and this fits the bill. In my experience with guitars in this price range is that over time the switches, and volume pots tend to fail quicker with normal wear and tear. This is wear the $ is saved by the company producing it. This is by no means a reason to shy away from this awesome guitar! Plus….it looks really cool!kingadrock23

I decided to pick this guitar up during a sale. I’ve read many places how great the quality is lately of Squire instruments. For the money, we’ll worth it, but don’t expect it to be any kind of playable condition when it arrives, if your experiences are similar to mine: Price and shipping? Can’t be beat! Quality of workmanship? Uneven at best. While the paint finish is nice, the neck pocket looks very uneven at the edges, I would normally think of this as a factory second. The trimplate around the upper switches wasn’t flat and the screws were at a slight angle. I removed it to find that the drilled holes were never cleaned, the tops of the holes raised slightly and the screws put in at a slight angle because of this. It was easy to remedy by filling, sanding and redrilling the holes, but to me that’s a little extreme even at this price point! The action was terribly high, the intonation totally off and there was string buzz around the bridge. After watching a few Jag specific videos, I shimmed the neck pocket slightly with two small cut business cards to increase the break at the neck. Did a complete readjustment of the bridge and strung it with 11’s (per most articles I read). Now it’s a beautiful, beautifully playing instrument! So beware! P.S. no case or gig bag, I know these aren’t mentioned as being included but I was still surprised that it came “naked”. P.P.S. Squier guitars have often been underestimated by many guitar players – myself included. I've always wanted a Jag but didn't want to pay the high price for a Fender American so I decided to try it out. Happily to my surprise this guitar, for the price, is a fantastic deal. It plays very well, feels good, and sounds great through my Fender Champion 100. It's well made and has all the hallmarks that made the Fender brand famous. As someone who owns a Fender Stratocaster, Gibson SG, and Gibson Les Paul Standard, I can honestly say this guitar appropriately joins the ranks of those favorites in my collection. I tweaked the setup to my liking and it's pretty easy to do. (There are plenty of online tutorials for doing this). Bottom line – if you've ever wanted a Jaguar and want a great looking, great playing, great sounding guitar at a great price – then you need to pickup this Squier Jaguar!minnesodamac

Out side of the shipping box being heavily damaged due to poor boxing up causing it to show up opened and crushed , fortunatly the guitar made it appearing so far undamaged, Time will tell on that. As far as the bass itself I was impressed by the quality , the finish, the playability and the fact it did not seem to need a set up. I tuned it , checked its intonation and was off to the races as they say. I recorded a song with it and was impressed by its sound and the overall characteristics of this bass. I have many basses in my arsenal as well as friend bass players who have tons of basses that we use to play out with and record songs. I will say this bass stacks up against most of them having one of my friend bass players marvel at the cost of this bass and the fact that he himself had to dive deep to find anything he could thumb his nose at. His comments to me after the search. OMG . In the long run I had planned to replace the stock pick ups but after hearing them I will reserve that thought till I know this bass better over time. The volume and tone pots maybe could have been better at making fine adjustments but again normally I set it and forget it so here again I will wait till I know this bass better before deciding if I have to upgrade them. Nut and tuners shocked me at this price point > I see no reason to even bother changing them now or in the future. Time will tell but for the price you cannot make a mistake here..Bigangbo

About 2 years ago I had been looking for a bass to start learning and practicing with. I carefully sifted through the ones on this website to see which one I'd prefer the most. I ended up going with this one in sunburst and it's been a great choice. Playing on precision pickups give a nice sound almost like a professional bass depending on how good your technique is. The jazz pickup sounds punchy and gives decent tone, not as great as the other one but gives you an idea on how a jazz bass sounds when you start learning. it's a good pj configuration for beginners and you're hearing two different types of sound, how awesome is that for someone starting to pick up a bass! Eventually the high G string gave me fret buzz but at that point I already knew how to adjust the saddle and found that's what was causing it. All in all though this is a great bass and I would never go back on thisBrett

Had to send first one back for having a bubble in the poly finish on the of the neck by the nut. The second one was perfect…other than frets being a tad sharper at the ends than I prefer, but a little filling took care of it. Most of these Indonesian Squier guitar's and bass's that I've bought don't have sharp ends. Anyhow, was worth it for the sound, feel, and look of this Lake Placid Blue bass. I put a white pickguard on it. PJ pickups on a bass, to me is the best of both worlds. I can slap, finger, or pick and get most any sound I want.mv

Worth every penny. This honestly feels just as good as my Fender's. Build quality is top notch, the satin finish is as beautiful as it feels, love the colour, and I'm very impressed with the anodised pickguard. I have a gold anodised guard on my Fender Strat which feels like nails on a chalkboard if you scratch it with your nail, but that isn't a problem with the guard on this Squier. I don't know what they've done differently here but it's a massive improvement. Not sure what else to say except you should definitely get one of these quick as they are only making them in 2022.Andrew G.

Take it from me, this is one of the best deals on an inexpensive bass. Some people complain about the tone of the stock pick ups, but they're actually not bad at all. You have to adjust the tone ON THE AMP to get a good sound. Which brings me to the second point – A GOOD BASS AMP. Don't expect this bass to sound killer on a cheap bass amp. Get a good quality bass amp (Fender Rumble cough cough) and you can get some pro tones from this bass for a fraction of the cost. I have 45 years music experience and there's absolutely nothing wrong with this bass. You can upgrade the pickups and tuners etc etc, but its fine just as it is. Its good for blues, rock, country, and R&B with the stock pickups in my opinion. I love it.beautifulloser
