Sound: The stock pickups sound great especially with high gain. Nice crunch and break up. Features: For me the reason that I bought this model is that it is the least expensive way to get a real Edge tremolo. I can do subtle things with the Edge that I can’t do on an Original Floyd Rose. The bar is easier to position and it stays where ever you put it. As long as the torsion bushings on the bar aren’t worn out, the pop in bar is neither too tight or too sloppy. Value: This guitar is worth every penny. Manufacturer Support: I did not use Ibanez customer service and I did order half a dozen sets of torsion bushings, but had to order them from different places. The Wow Factor: I love the color of this one, Desert Sun Yellow. Overall: In the last 2 months I’ve bought 5 different Ibanez guitars, both lower and higher price. I must say that this guitar is the most bang for the buck out of any of my 21 guitars that I own.Got more than 200 bucks off on mine as it was sold as a slight blemish. When the guitar arrived, I noticed it did have a hairline crack in the paint on the bass side at the neck pocket. That was the only flaw I could find and it probably would have happened anyway if I would have got a “new” one.This is the shreddiest guitar that I have. The only thing that I had to address is that the 6th fret was a little proud. Other than that the fret job was good. All the frets were shiny and smooth and no fret sprout.This is the guitar that is at the price point where if you spend more money, you aren’t going to get much better. Overall: This guitar was a total impulse buy and I’m so glad I bought it! It’s easily worth twice the price of it. Can’t get too many mid tier guitars that are neck thru with decent pickups and a 5-way switch that has a fast and slim neck at this price. I mostly play baritone 6 strings and 7 strings but I needed a 25.5” scale for drop C and this is perfect for it with 10-54 strings. I did upgrade the nut with a Graphtech tusq nut and Hipshot locking tuners with knurled tuner buttons and looks even more badass while staying in perfect tune! I have an Ibanez rgib6 Iron Label 28” baritone and this is up there with that as far as quality and playability. The stock pickups aren’t bad at all and definitely surprised me cuz that’s usually the first thing I’ll change in an inexpensive guitar. As you can see by the other reviews people say it’s a great guitar and they’re not lying so if you’re on the fence about getting it then go for it! You won’t be disappointed at all and if for some reason you are then zZounds has a return policy within like 30-45 days so you won’t be stuck with a guitar you don’t love.Josh
Overall: I have been playing the epiphone les paul std for two and half years now,and started looking at semi hollows around five months ago! I did some research looked at reviews and then bought the am93 ays almost four months ago,and just love it! The body is bigger and its lighter then the les paul ,it rests real nice on the lap no strap is neaded.Pickups and tunners excellent !! I would say the neck shape is a (c ) standard! Not thin like a jackson or wizard 3 neck! With the string action low feels and plays very nice!! Flawless machine ! No sharp frets,no freting out, all notes are clear, fret boards nice and dark no gaps around the block inlays ! All smooth sealed and even. Amazing finish. Thanks to everyone at zZounds ! It's an Ibanez. I am a long time Ibanez fan. Even when they started the Artcore series. I own for PRS CU24's; American Fender Strat Deluxe and Tele; Les Paul elegant and Explorer. Except when I'm playing with our group I'm usually on one of my Ibanez. If they are lower end units like this I expect to change the electronics, nut and tuners. I did the tuners and had planned on installing Seth Lovers. Mean while I put some A4 magnets in the pickups and… NO SETH LOVERS! I love the tone, the responsiveness/sensitivity. See can be smooth as silk with the volume back or nice and crunchy @ 10. Pinch harmonics reach out and grab you in a nice way. Other than the tuning pegs, nut and strap locks she'll stay this way for at least a while. I got her for the color (I'm not into green guitars or fade finishes but she caught my eye for some reason) and what a friend "the Pickle" has become.Mondron
If you want a good looking semi-hollow body guitar that plays and sounds OK, this is probably the best value for money guitar out there. You still get what you pay for, but i think Ibanez has found a good balance in that regard. Craftsmanship : It looks amazing and sounds great for such a cheap guitar. Of course there are some features that could be better, but none of these really affect the looks, playability or sound of the guitar. Sound : the pickups are a little hot and punchy for me, but for a pair of cheap pickups they sound pretty good. They give plenty of output for a good fuzzy sound but also sound reasonably good clean. This guitar can handle a solid rock sound and a decent clean sound as well. A little bright maybe, but you have the individual tone controls to remedy that if you wanted to. Plenty of sustain too. Neck : If you're coming from a Fender electric guitar it could take a little getting used to the smaller scale length, the bigger radius of the fretboard and the smaller string spacing. But nothing dramatic. I would think this is the perfect beginner guitar for those reasons. The neck profile feels good to me. All in all a great guitar for the money.
This is an extremely nice guitar, especially for the price. Great action, set-up, and play-ability straight out the box. Humbucker pickups are nice and warm, giving a nice "dark" tone to the guitar (strong bass and mid-tones) to my ears. Good variation of range of tone from the bridge and neck pickups and so is quite versatile. Lovely overtones/ harmonics going through a Blues Driver into an Orange Micro Terror — you can rock with this! — and the guitar combined well with a Roland Jazz Chorus 22 cancelling out some of the brightness of this amp. Quality of components and finish is very good. It's also a light guitar in terms of weight, so it's a practical instrument to play on stage, especially if you have a long gig — and are starting to get on a bit, like me. Of course, it's green, which might put people off, I guess… Then again, it's very eye catching and people won't miss it on stage! In summary, a great guitar at a great price that provides a different blues or jazz tone in addition to your other instruments.Damian F.

Overall: The first guitar I bought myself was a PRS SE Custom 24, it was an amazing guitar especially for a beginner. As I played more I found that I didn't like the finished neck, the fret work wasn't as good as it could be and the pickups weren't the tone I wanted.So I started looking around. A friend of mine showed me his PRS CE and after playing it I was sold. His was the matte black, but when I went on zZounds I saw several colorways that I liked. A few of them had pictures of the actual guitar, so I picked one that had beautiful figuring.The neck, fretwork, and setup are all amazing. This guitar played perfect right out of the box. The pickups sound amazing and the ability to split the coils for complete tonal diversity.My signal chainPRS CE24JHS Muffuletta Ibanez TS808 Fender Blues-Deluxe Reissue As to the case vs gig-bag issue. I prefer a gig-bag, but I wish it had come with the same one that the Silver Sky comes with instead of one that seems almost the same as the SE gig-bag.
This is a beautiful guitar and if it were 1000$ it would be well worth it. For 2300$ though I would like to have some inlays that don't look like cheap plastic and not have fret buzz. The buzz could be fixed with a set up but for 2300$ I feel like it should come set up. On the back the slots for the cover plates are not routed so they just sit on top. Not a deal breaker but this does make it look a little incomplete. Overall it sounds great minus the fret buzz. I'd say no better than a se model and not worth the extra money unless you just want a bolt on neck. I prefer bolt on or through necks which is why I bought the ce but I plan to return it and either get an ernie ball music man or an American strat.Not satisfied with AMS quality c
I bought this because I was in the market for a US guitar and I already had a US Strat. I was thinking about a Gibson Les Paul Classic and then PRS showed up on my radar. I did some research and decided to play both. I have an Epiphone Les Paul so I thought I would prefer the Gibson. I played this guitar first and the Les Paul just didn't feel right after that. I bought this one a couple weeks later. After having it for an extended period (12 hours) I started thinking about selling my Strat and buying a Silver Sky. This guitar just felt so good I didn't want anything else. The neck feel is fantastic. The tone options are amazing The color is sooooooo much more vibrant in person than in pictures It is sitting in the rack in the other room while I type this and I wish I was playing it right now. It was totally worth every penny and I would recommend it to anyone who wants a true quality instrument.Jay P

This is a fantastic and very versatile guitar for the money. It looks like a tart's boudoir – almost over the top with all that gold and red, but that's somehow 'right' even for me who usually likes things understated. Great sustain, sweet cleans and a surprisingly aggressive 70s sounding bark with a bit of gain. its Mini Probuckers are the business! It's a fraction bigger than a Les Paul, and surprisingly light. The finish is better than most guitars in a similar price range – frets are good, finish almost faultless bar one or two very minor binding imperfections on the f holes and the masking of the side of the neck where it joins the body, but seriously, these are micro issues. Setup out of the box was close to perfect but action a tad too high – lowered it to my taste and it is now perfect.Reviewed by Andertons Music Co.
Really amazing for the money – I've owned many US-made guitars from top-notch manufacturers and the quality of construction and finish on this one is immaculate. Not only that but it's a very well-designed instrument too, stylish and decently ergonomic for a semi. Perfect for providing a bit of jazz mojo. On the basis of my experience with this one, if I was in the market for a Les Paul I'd be looking for an Epi, not a Gibson. I've owned two Gibson Les Pauls and a Gibson SG and none of them was as well-made as this. One thing I don't like about this guitar – playing it for a while tends to make your fingertips go black. I suspect the ebony fingerboard has been stained. But it's mirror smooth (and the inlays are the nicest I've seen on a budget guitar) so I'm inclined to forgive that one foible. While I was waiting for this guitar to arrive, I kept reading the many reviews about this guitar on the internet. While they were almost all positive, a tiny few people complained about little flaws in the fit and finish of this guitar. I figured that in the the worst case scenario I could send it back and upgrade to an AM 153 if the AM 93 wasn't satisfactory. Upon receiving the guitar I inspected it top to bottom. It was basically flawless. The binding looks perfect, no chips or voids. The neck was very comfortable and the frets were nicely dressed. The guitar was beautiful. The AM 93 sounds great with these pick ups and I knew right away that this was a keeper. I bought this initially to set up as a smaller bodied "jazz box" with heavier gauge flatwound strings. My "problem" now is that it sounds so good for blues/ rock with the lighter gauge strings that I might need another guitar to set up with the flatwounds! Eventually, I will probably change the tuning keys. These hold tune fine but a sweet guitar like this deserves silky smooth top of the line tuners. This is the 23rd guitar in my collection, and I am blown away by what the Chinese are able to accomplish in 2017. In the past Chinese guitars suffered the same reputation as Japan's earliest efforts. Just like Japan, they have made a determined effort to become a world class builder of electric guitars. They've succeeded. The quality, fit and finish of this guitar is outstanding, and I have paid twice as much for new American made guitars and received much lower quality in the last 10 years. The pickups are especially noteworthy. I almost always upgrade my humbucker pickups to a major manufacturer's " '59 " model for tone and reliability. The reliability of these pickups remains to be seen, since it usually takes years of sweat and vibration to judge the toughness of a set of pickups, but the tone is all there. The tone is comparable to ones that came out of Michigan in the late 50's and early 60's… snappy, plenty of treble and "bite", harmonic overtones that bloom nicely when overdriven. These are less likely to feedback, which is not a plus if you like to use feedback to increase sustain (ala Santata or EVH). It's my feeling that having a decreased tendency to feedback is sort of a plus in a semi hollow guitar. They can get a little unruly at stage volumes. The only possible downsides to this guitar are that the gold plating on the hardware looks a little cheap, and I would not be surprised if it wore off to the underlying brass and aluminum the way "gold" hardware on Asian guitars has a way of doing. Another possible issue for long term quality is that the beautiful quilt maple seems to be a paper thin veneer. On a more expensive instrument, even USA made ones, the maple portions of semi hollow guitars are laminated. This actually leads to a stronger, more resonant instrument that stands the test of time. The CURRENT version, as sold by a competitor, has an ebony fingerboard and tortoiseshell pickguard. After half a dozen emails with the Hoshino folks (Ibanez America) I found out that my guitar was manufactured in Indonesia. The Super 58 pickups are also manufactured in Indonesia. They no longer make the rosewood fingerboard version because of legal/environmental issues. As well, you cannot get a black pickguard with binding, even from Hoshino, because they are sold only in EU and Sino countries, not in U.S. The nut chipped on the G string slot when putting on D'Addario Chrome flatwounds, 10-48. And some of the frets are not the correct height. This becomes very evident when lowering the action. I've had to file numerous frets and still get some string buzzing. I had to replace the 3-way toggle switch because it makes so much noise when flipping between pickups…so I installed the old Standby, Switchcraft. I replace the turners with Planet Wave Auto Trim Locking tuners and put the 3 ply black plastic pickguard that Hoshino sells and fits this model. It's now a very, very respectable axe and I'm getting nice, sweet, jazzy sounds from the neck pickup. Overall, it's VERY well made, it's beautiful, it sounds great.VonBach

It will arrive with action higher than most les Paul's! So you will need to lower it first thing. I got lucky and got nice frets but you may have to do a complete fret job! My strings were good but some say they had to change theirs first thing..now the pickup…the humbucker is actually pretty sweet and more than I expected..the bridge pickup well it's just there…it's decent to say the least…guitar is extremely light, so light it's almost scary…I will definitely have to pull the control plate off and do another update later on!! But all for all it is worth the money if you're willing to do some work on it first!!
When I received the guitar, I found many new upgrades, starting with double boxed packaging with internal neck support. The guitar was wrapped in a foam bag, and inside of the new padded gig bag. The cable has also been upgraded to a heavy nylon covered cable with metal ends, one straight, one 90°plug. Bound Laurel fretboard and bone nut. The awesome Purple finish is near flawless, smoothly applied with no runs, sags, or rough spots. The electronics and hardware all work smoothly, and the tuner hold tune. Out of the box, the guitar plays well, but is in need of a setup, like most new guitars. The Setup: The neck is very straight and needed a slight adjustment of the truss rod to add a bit of relief. There was no fret sprout, but I did find a couple of frets a tad high, (all above the 12th fret), a few taps with the fret mallet sorted that out, and followed with a polish. The nut slots were even and well cut, but the nut was too tall for my liking, file the slots some, to avoid going to deep, I popped the nut off and filed the bottom to bring it into perfect height. A few dabs of PVA (white) glue reset the nut in place. Conditioned the fretboard with some lemon oil, it was really dry, and looks awesome now. Setting the string height and intonation were as simple as turning a few screws. The guitar now looks and plays wonderfully! Closing thoughts: This is a beautiful guitar, and Glarry's upgrades and revisions are greatly appreciated. The padded gig bag is nice, but grab yourself a soft, flurry towel to line the bag for extra safety, If you want even more security, Glarry sells a hard case to fit this guitar. If you are into mods this is a great platform. Want a Bigsby? add it, custom pickups? why not, locking tuners and strap lock? for me always! Way to go Glarry!
