I could spend all day yapping about this pedal…In my travels i've tried countless pedals, but got tired of having 'too many' pedals. The weight, the time it took to hook it all up. I also busk, or play where electricity isn't available, and wanted a setup where i could make one trip with everything, and keep the weight down. I've always been a fan of ZOOM products, so trying out the Multistomp series was a no-brainer for me. The 50G met all my requirements, and exceed them all after i got one and started using it. Tones that are as good as any higher priced pedal, the versatility is second to none, and the price is killer for what this pedal can do. I would say the the Bluetooth version was my favorite, then the 70CDR, then the 50G, with the 50G's new 3.0 update, the 50 G is now my favorite pedal…period. The 50G started with maybe 50 patches, now it has 172, and best of all it has the Exciter patch, which to me is required on any pedal board. All i can suggest is watch the countless demo videos of this pedal. I would recommend this pedal for any level of guitarist, i would also recommend the MS-70CDR, watch the demo videos of the 70-CDR vs Strymons…amazing I cant say enough good things about the 50G, i believe it's near the perfect all around pedal. The MS-50G pedal is first class. It is every bit as clean, quiet, and well built as the Boss pedals. It is not a replacement for the Boss line. Zoom pedals have a character of their own. Personally, I like the Zoom tone. But I'm not a guitar player. There is a great ~15 minute YouTube instructional video for the MS-50G. I got over the learning curve for writing and storing effects by watching this video, then I bought pedal. It replaces several pieces of my high quality studio gear when I need fast results that are of high level audio quality. Zoom delivers with this product. After I watched this video I purchased the pedal. I also like my G1X as a companion to this pedal. The G1X has a nice volume/expression pedal.Sean
I needed something for my living room and practicing while watching TV late at night without a full pedal board or multi-effects box. This along with a Boss RC-3 and a mini mixer for my wireless headphones provides everything I have in my studio at a mini level. The sounds are good enough. There are enough options in sound to play most anything. Eventually I'll try this little beast as a sub for my full pedal board and see how it works in a live jam. One pedal to do everything. It's not perfect but it is great. I wish Zoom would provide updates to it and a better manager. It's pretty old by today's standards and if Zoom provided updated files they would sell even more if these great little boxes. The Kongpressor gives my guitar clarity, even string volume, clean boost, and clean sustain better than other stompbox compressors that I have used. With the chime control you can dial in the amount of treble that you want and get a treble boost effect in the higher settings (VOX in a box). The release and attack dials act uniquely in various combinations (I am still experimenting with that aspect as a lone pedal and also with other pedals to find my preferred sound). I have only used it with a 9 volt adapter so I will be getting a 12 volt to hear the extra boost, but I am happy with the 9 volt. Remember it does not have a battery compartment so you might as well invest in a 12 volt adapter. Compressors can be noisy, the Kongpressor is quiet. AMS service and coupon program are both excellent. Ordering is easy and delivery time is quick.Harv

i wanted to compare this to my boss hm-2 pedal but i can't get to it at this time, so i'll have to do this by itself. this is a very nice distortion pedal. again the plastic casing is durable and inexpensive ,so you're getting a good pedal for the money.the level and distortion controls are sensitive- i consider a plus. i do wish there was more bass in the in the low frequency control. now you might be asking, "why don't i cut back on the high frequency control?". here's why : the high frequency control appears to be a combination high frequency/gain control! the more you turn it up, the more gain. combined with the sensitive dist/level controls this is a nice feature if you want that. i like it . i can always boost the bass on the amp/EQ/whatever. i like to use different dimensions of distortions and if you are like me ,i recommend this.thurstonnalley
I guess I'm more of a roady/studio guy than I am an artist, as I've always got more out of turning knobs then actually playing music lol. I bought this pedal for one reason and one sound only. The Swedish "chainsaw" guitar tone of the 90's that came out of Sunlight Studios that was popularized by bands like Entombed and Dismembered. I think it sounds incredibly good considering I bought it NEW for 25 bones plus shipping! The distortion is sometimes a bit over the top, but cleans up when you roll back the volume knobs on the guitar. I imagine you could really get some interesting tones going if you paired this pedal with a compressor and eq both before and after it in the signal chain (and with Behringer that's actually an affordable option), and of course, a tube amp, as most of the bands with that sound supposedly used Peavey 5150 tube heads. Very nasty distortion pedal, if you could travel back in time to the 90's you could probably sell this to a metal head for absolutely ridiculous amounts of money. If you are not buying this pedal for a certain "Swedish death metal" sound or just metal in general, I would not recommend this pedal, as there are probably much better pedals out there for what you need. Its made out of plastic which I personally don't mind, as I'm not a touring or gigging musician. If I stomped on it several times a night for half a year I dunno how that would work out. Not a big fan of the color, but then again, I didn't buy this pedal for aesthetic value. When you buy a pedal for 50 bucks it's kind of a roll of the dice, I've bought cheap pedals before and its about a 50/50 chance of getting a good one, not so with the Steel Singer, it's a winner and 50 bucks is a deal. Overall: I have more overdrive pedals then I realistically need but my selection of distortion pedals has always been disappointing for my taste, just never the right tone regardless of the set up. I figured this pedal wasn’t too much and saw good reviews for the pedal historically. Yes there are differences from the originals to the model we have today but this distortion pedal is ridiculously versatile. The distortion pot is very broad and goes from a subtle O\D to a full faced fuzz and then when you sweep thru the filter, that’s where you see how versatile the Rat truly is. Is this a pedal geared towards the modern metal sound? Probably not. Is this pedal a good product for the price? Absolutely! The ease of use with the three control knobs just makes this pedal a great first buy or for those, like myself, who seemed to keep coming up short with distortion pedals, a truly simple and reliable tank of a stomp box. The Rat pedal is a classic and was my first pedal in 1986 when hi gain amps werent affordable to 15 year old kids. That pedal was mean ! It had the original lm308 chip and gave me the Kill Em All sound I craved. Fast forward to 2020 and the pedal has not changed much. Its mean and can give you fuzz to mean hi gain rhythm and violin line like sustain on leads. For $69.99 it is affordable and awesome. Cons : you cant power this pedal with a standard Boss power supply. Its either buy a Rat power supply/wall wart or run it on batteries. Also, the battery compartment is plastic and not as tank like as the rest of the pedal. The changing of chips does make the pedal lose some of its magic. The new chip is fine but I do miss the lm308 and maybe its hype Im falling for. It likely is. So what can you do ? I sent my pedal of to Utah to be rehoused. The pedal itself is hard to adhere to a pedalboard bc it is so heavy and awkward. So mine is being put in a more pedalboard friendly housing. Also, all the components like in and out jacks etc will be replaced/upgraded as well as some cheap components inside the pedal. You also get the lm308 chip. Hell yeah ! For $150 you get a massively improved pedal. Do you need to do this ? No of course not. But if you want the best Rat pedal youcan get ( which in the new housing also allows being powered by a Boss style power supply via wall wart or pedalboard) then the mod will be a fun way to modify an already smoking pedal.swampdonkey90
This is a great pedal and is very versatile. It can go from an overdriven tube amp tone at low gain settings to very thick heavy distortion/fuzz tone. I like to set the gain low to a nice overdriven tube amp tone and then have my boss SD-1 in front of it pushing the pedal harder. It gives it a nice 80s hair metal, Marshall JCM800 type tone. The tone of the pedal is great and it is very versatile and a good deal. It will stay on my pedal board. The other nice thing is is it's extremely easy to use with just 3 knobs and very easy to find a great tone. When I first got this pedal I didn't like how bright it was but that where the filter knob comes into play and you can roll off the brightness to match the guitar and amp you have and get a great tone. This allows you to play it on bright and dark amps a like. I use it with a Gibson Les Paul standard with burst bucket pro pickups into my 65 reissue fender Princeton reverb and I will also run it into my Boss katana MKii 50 watt. This pedal is for users who are very capable at dialling in. Equally this pedal makes for a good starter pedal if you just want to experience overdrive and what that does to your sound. But for everyone else, I think the natural mid boost gives a little too much mud to be a popular pedal board decision over more modern pedals. The main difference in a Tube Screamer and the Boss SD-1 is the type of clipping. SD-1 utilizes asymmetrical clipping, and a Tube Screamer uses symmetrical clipping. They both have a mid-hump as for as the EQ curve. You can use them both as boosts into other pedals or amps. As straight up overdrives, the Tube Screamer often sounds like a layer of dirty and a layer of clean, where as with the SD-1, you get the single layer of dirty because of the circuit's clipping type. Either are great. Some prefer one over the other. I have both the TS and the Boss. Either work great with many configurations, and in some cases you might prefer one to the other with a particular setup. After watching a few John5 interviews it dawned on me he doesn't use many pedals. But this is one he does use, so got me interested. It’s an Ibanez tube screamer, so of course it’s wicked. Easy to use, bombproof, and gives you that extra bit of oomf for a big solo. If you want pure dirty blues then I’d go for the 808, but the TS9 is great for rock, it’s got a slightly brighter more aggressive tone. These things really shine with a Strat, but they sound just as great with whatever guitar you’re using, and they are just loads and loads of fun. The tube screamers are, I think, a foundational building block of getting a good blues tone out of your rig. Obviously, your guitar and amp will have a big impact on your sound, but this pedal can help you find that special sweet spot of tone. Being an overdrive pedal rather than a hard distortion pedal, do not expect the long singing sustains you would get from a traditional distortion pedal, but more of a crunch, an added grit. I think the pedal will interface well with a distortion device like OCD, and spatial pedals like MXR Carbon copy, and TC electronics hall of fame… if you can afford them… they are expensive… the price you pay for quality. If you play between the boundaries of Metal to Hard Rock, you will love this pedal! I've own this pedal for years and it has made some eyes pop and gotten me compliments from all sorts of Musicians to include professional ones. Its very versatile and can literally make any rig scream! Even very simple setups like a decent solid state amp and a cheap guitar.I found That really clean amps like Fenders, and Rolands can really make this baby shine due to its high gain and very distorted nature. This pedal is very responsive and has so much attack its insane. The other cool thing about this pedal is the built in noise gate which really helps clean up the hiss of the gain. it also has a mids scoop similar to the signature Dime distortion pedal. This definitely beats all pedals similar to it like the Boss Metal zone, the T-rex bloody mary, Dime Distortion and many other famous pedals. I love howthis pedal has can get many famous sounds like Randy Rhoads, Disturbed, Pantera, Early metallica, All That Remains, Ratt, Van Halen, Godsmack, and more. The only thing about it that some people may not like is that the pedal does have a little bit more controls than average ones and that its high gain maybe too much for some. However I found that if you roll the gain down and mess with the frequency knob and equilizers, you can get a more Crunchy overdrive sound. This pedal is a one trick pony – brutal sounding heavy metal. It can run the gauntlet of thrash, modern, nu, and classic metal – everything from old school Dio and 1980s Metallica to Pantera to Trivium to Avenged Sevenfold. It can scoop the mids out entirely for the dry … And Justice for All sound with the push of a button while the push of another button can enable a nice percussive sound and prevent any bleedthrough of extraneous sound. Using mids dial on this pedal is not a bad thing … it shouldn't be turned down unless specifically needed for a certain sound. Mine is actually set around the 1 o'clock position. Where care needs to be used is actually with the low and especially the high (where it can sound like an annoying chain saw if turned up). Take time and care with dialing in the sound. It is easy to get a brutal sound if used properly and not the high pitched awful whine that you might find on demo videos on YouTube. Definitely recommend using this pedal on the clean channel. Boosting it with an overdrive pedal isn't necessary or useful.JGB
Overall: I have been using my tried and true Boss Metal Zone into a Boss 7 band EQ for a few decades. I had been looking at getting the Waza Craft Metal Zone before my old Metal Zone takes a dump on me, but I also wanted to see what else is out there. I watched a video review of the MXR Fullbore Distortion and was impressed, but not enough to buy one. Well! My fiance took care of that for me and ordered it for me as a surprise. I plugged it in right away the day it got here. I plugged it into my 7 band EQ. I kinda gave it a half ass listen and wasn't impressed. I picked it back up and figured I would exchange it for a noise gate as that is what I needed more. It sat there for a week or so and I decided to give it another chance. I plugged straight in to the front of my half stack and used a suggested setting I found online. I had to back off on my maps EQ across the board and just tweak it. What I heard was something that sounded familiar and new at the same time. I cranked it up and tried the on board noise gate and it works great! Basically it's a distortion, EQ and a noise gate in one pedal. I tried my old set up side by side with this pedal and the fact that this one pedal eliminated 2 other pedals in the chain was what finally sold me. I love this thing. It likes high gain pickups. My Strat with a Seymour Duncan TB 6 Distortion in the bridge sounds like a flame thrower! Distortion is a very personal thing. Not everybody will love it. So far everybody who has listened to me says that it sounds insane, badass, etc. For the music I play it fits. It's an all around sound I can use on everything I cover on guitar. To me that's the goal to have one sound do it all. I'm very happy that I kept it and gave it another try. One thing to remember is that with this pedal it's okay to back everything down and especially on your amp. Usually I would put everything in the middle and adjust my Distortion and EQ around that. This unit is just incredible. I've been playing since the early 70's and with all the equipment that I've owned I really think the GT100 has possibly impressed me more than anything I've bought! There's some wonderful preset sounds in this tone monster and it's easy to edit the one's that you like. If you're already proficient at programming pedals then this one will be a dream for you to manipulate. This isn't my first multi effects pedal but I don't enjoy programming and this is by far the easiest to program of the one's I've owned. I can't say enough about the sound of this thing. Overall: I picked this up knowing it was at the end of it's market life, but I wanted to finally own one. COSM is starting to feel a little old, but it's still an amazing pedalboard. The amp modeling is good, especially the clean tones. The distortion can get a little "digital" sounding, but it's still very usable. The effects are top notch, especially the delay and reverb. What attracted me to this product was the routing options, specifically USB. I do a lot of home recording on my DAW and an underappreciated feature of this board is the ability to record both a dry and wet signal to your DAW at the same time. Reamping (routing the signal out of your DAW back into the device for processing after recording) is a great tool and something that is not found in a lot of boards. It really gives this kit an extended life off the stage and in the studio. 6 years after launch this is still a great product!Allan
I have to say I love his board, I've been through several multi effects and was recently building up an all analogue pedal board myself with some nice TRex and Keeley pedals in there. I was inspired after watching Johnny Marr and listening to some of the tones he got from the GT100 so I jumped when it was on offer. I run it through a small Behringer mixing desk into two Yamaha DBR12's and all I can say is that it sounds awesome. As a change to my usual random approach I went through each preset and made a note what it reminded me of or what it might be useful for,if I liked the patch. Its a testament to the board that out of the 200 presets I marked nearly 50 out for being useful out of the box. Now i just refer to that sheet and if I have a cover song I want to try or a feel for an original piece I just the closest preset as a starting point. There are so many features on this board its pointless trying to list them but suffice to say its got everything you are going to need, and there is always the effects loop if you are missing some random effect. What else can I say, oh yes its improving my playing as I use the metronome on it loads, really helping me improve my speed. The screens are clear and easy to view, and the whole menu is very intuitive to work with. Gets a definite thumbs up from me absolute winner of a product 🙂

I've had this pedal for about maybe 5 months, great pedal. The best thing to do is to always read your manual because this particular pedal shuts off. That feature is to save you battery power, or just being on too long when you walk away. I hadn't gotten use to that at first. It pays to read the manual to figure out how to do it. It' easy to blow an afternoon exploring the wide variety of sounds this pedal can produce. While many of the effects are great there are quite a few duds mixed in there. You just have to play. There doesn't seem to be that much logic as to how the effects are grouped. You really need to write down your favorites. Out of 100 effects I think almost anyone can find 20 that they really like. The Stomplab has some very good patches right out of the box better than most MultiFX units. I rarely get to say that. Since I like to try them all, I think it excels in areas that can outdo expensive pedals. The amps sound really realistic and have beefy snappy mids right in your face with great projection and pop. The tones are designed to sound good as you play with EQ settings the amps seem to stay in the zone of what you would expect an actual amp would do. The best way to really experience this is to plug into a Hi Fidelity home stereo etc. and listen to how detailed the mix is. There is a Tube Screamer that seems to actually enhance just about every amp you try it with when trying to get some edge. The clean amps are some of the best out of the box tube gain style sparkling U2 like rhythms with clearly defined picking separation. This is probably about as good as it gets for these type sounds. Very metal like ballading with chorus and delay. Def Leppard Bringing on the Heartache or Photagraph come off terrific. The crunch sounds are very realistic and the US Hi Gain is about as good as it gets for 80s Metal. I can compare this to the VT Plus series because I have it. This pedal sounds good and really excels with a Tube amp. The VT Plus is a tube hybrid and the 12ax7 single tube does add a touch of edge as it is cranked but the pedal is the same Engine and the edge is subtle and the Tube Screamer SIM sounds close. Any sound can be had and it records from the line out with very good definition. Most of the amp sims are very good with little tweaking and I think it has the most good amp Sims of any other multi fx unit. Has way more variables than the VT Plus amp series and it is one of my favorites for downright realistic amp sounds. Hard to believe it but, it stacks up well against the bigger floorboards in respect to tone alone. More controls on the bigger units sometimes can take you too far off base. It really is well designed and keeps you sounding good.

Sound: The sound on this board is amazing, I fee it’s also very responsive to your playing and you get that responsive feedback. Makes me feel like it’s easier and more joyful to play my guitar. I will say this you have to tweak settings to get your sound typically the pre made ones aren’t the best. Overall: Ok so first off I’m new to this thing, I never thought I get away from tube amps, but….this headrush caught my attention and I love it! I like the simplicity of it and it produces great models plus sounds really authentic for what it does. I will recommend pairing with headrush frfr108 or frfr 12 or a frfr (Full range flat response) speaker instead of an amp. That way you get the absolute most out of this. I got the headrush frfr108 and it’s sounds amazing! too. As far as the headrush’s competition I haven’t used them yet. But end of the day it’s all personal preference. First off, DO NOT judge the tones of this pedalboard by the preset rigs, they're pretty bad. Build new rigs from scratch and you will discover what this unit is capable of producing. It's not overloaded with every effect pedal out there, but there is more than enough to get any tone you want from Jazz, Country, Rock, Metal, and Blues. For overdriven and distorted tones, it may seem like you only have a few pedals to choose from, but once you combine them with all the various amps, cabs, mics, and impulse responses, you have hundreds of tones in your sound pallet. As for modulation and delay effects, it has all you need to produce any tone. Real Amps and FX Loop – In addition, you can use any of your favorite effects in the FX loop of the pedalboard. It also works great with tube amps and can work in a "four wire" setup with your modulation and delay effects going through the amplifiers FX loop. You can also run into the PA and to a stage tube amp simultaneously. Virtual Amps and IR's – The amps and impulse responses sound fantastic. I have several vintage tube amps and I am able to reproduce the same tones of mic'ing up those amps from this pedalboard directly to the PA or a recording desk. It has the easiest user interface of any of the pedalboards out there. If you can use a smartphone or tablet, this will be very easy to learn. One of the best features is the ability to assign the footswitches to any pedal or multiple pedals (scene function), or do either toggle or momentary mode. In addition, the mini screens for each footswitch change when you assign it to different pedals so it's easy to see what effects you are turning on and off in live performance. Overall: First of all, I am pretty sold school when it comes to amps and effects. A simple tube amp pushed with a couple of tube screamers, the on board reverb from the amp itself, and some modulation like delay and chorus. I joined a band a few years back that was about to go into the studio to record an album the year before covid struck. As a result, I ended up buying a Pod HD500X as a way to try to consolidate the effects that I might need all in one unit. I used it mainly as a "pedal board" in front of the [tube] amp as if it were my old analog board full of individual pedals. Needless to say, the recording project got pushed back because of the pandemic, and I was stuck at home, with a lot of time to play around with the processor. It was "good" but it left me wanting an easier to use option. As you could imagine, what that kind of time on my hands, I did a lot of floating around the internet just looking at possible modelers. All of the names. Kemper, Helix, Axe FX, Fractal, and this HeadRush board. Out of everything that was out there, the HeadRush board seemed to be VASTLY easier to try to figure out. Pushing my late 40s now, I don't really 'enjoy' learning new technology the way I did in my teens and twenties, so I didn't want a steep learning curve just to be able to use this thing. I spent a day while it was being shipped looking over youtube tutorials as to how to use it. Only took me a few hours of messing around with it once it got here to dial in the tone that I had on the HD500X. If you can use your cell phone, you can figure this board out. The effects sound convincing and the amp models really seem as good as the competition's offerings (even if this board doesn't have quite as many jammed into it). We are about three weeks out from going in to start laying down the guide tracks for this LP [finally], and this will make things much easier to navigate when each little tone will be more heavily scrutinized. The ability to tweak it on the fly will save time (and thus MONEY) in that studio environment. No deep dives into large menus to try to make a minor adjustment. Gives me a lot more freedom to just try to play my parts instead of worrying about the setup itself. I think this board is a bit underrated as far as the amps and cabs as well. I still will be running it to my amplifier and mic-ing it up as I do still like the "feel" that tubes give when playing. But who knows, I may use some of the sims as well. Built like a tank. A bit heavier than I had expected. Should hold up well under live applications (though that was actually not a problem with the 500X either). I highly recommend this unit if you want to get something that doesn't take a degree from Berklee in sound engineering to get started making music.Kenneth

i cant believe Musicians Friend is restricting a word that is used in a product they sell. Replace ** with ff The Metal Mu** gave me the sound I was looking for. I have a Marshall DSl40c and an LTD EC401 and they rock. However, when the pedal is disengaged, there was little to no volume, so if I wanted a clean sound, I had to unplug my guitar from the pedal and plug it into the amp directly. I emailed EHX about the issue, they said it was a sensor issue and to return it to MF. I have returned the unit and I am waiting on my replacement. The return was painless, as I expected it would be, can't wait to get my replacement.Kyle E
Great for a pedal into a decent clean. Settings are touchy tho; makes it a little tricky to dial it in at first, but once you get a feel for it, it's not so bad. Go against your intuition to crank it; it seems to prefer being restrained. Otherwise, lots of different tones; very versatile. Seems to prefer passive pickups; my active's get a little screechy and bring out that "pedal-ly" tone, whereas the passives give a more organic sound. It's not as good as plugging straight into a Peavy, Randall or Boogie or something. A pedal never will be. But as far as a pedal into a clean amp goes.. you can get some pretty satisfying "high gain but still natural sounding" tones. Without the price tag of a high gain stack. Basically it's the sweetest pedal distortion i've played. Such a range of sounds that you can dial into nearly any amp, guitar or situation. But yeah, don't expect it to sound like you're plugged into a satan. It's more for an all purpose rig that you want to get some brutal metal out of. Also, I got some cool stuff out of it by plugging it into my FX loop.. but i usually keep it in front of the amp as it's a more versatile position. On my H&K you can use it as a boost into the lead channel, but it breaks up pretty easily, gets real noisy, and actually sounds way more brutal into the clean channel. My eq pedal works better as a boost into the amp distortion. By the way, a noise gate comes in handy. Also a Wah after the pedal.. makes things interesting.Kenny
Well not to do a life story I am the lead guitarist, in a giging punk band. for the last year and a half been trying to find a good tone at such a loud volume. So I settled on a mxr full bore metal pedal. And a lbr boost from electro hanmonix. Now the mxr is a good pedal, however when combined with the boos thats where trouble began. when i hit the boost for very short modest solos, it is punk, it would take all the bottom end out with a huge shot of mid range. I tweeked and turned till the cows cane home nothin. now with the metal miff, with the top boost saved the day. I was worried it would just flood me with treble and sound very bad not so. Also it eliminates have to get a boost pedal all together. GET ONE!!Drew

First off, I would like to say that I have literally owned and tried every single direct amp/cab sim option on the market, both in a studio situation and a live gig/touring situation that required nightly in ear monitor usage. My one and only quest was to get as close to my tube amps, that I dearly miss being able to use, as possible! I have ditched every single unit after one or two gigs for the same reasons; too digital in response, and they just don’t feel good during a gig (which makes the whole gig a struggle in some aspect), and don’t handle analog pedals well. My search has ended with the Strymon Iridium! I popped this little monster on my pedalboard and off to rehearsals, and sessions I went! I have been able to dial in almost exact responses of a gorgeous fender style clean, and a Marshall style lead tone, in seconds. I also have been able to do my beloved overdrive and fuzz stacking to my hearts content and this little black box handled it with ease and felt realistic while doing it! I will leave with this; if you have been struggling like I have to confirm to the direct trend and need an immediate solution to take you as close as you could possibly get to recreating those killer tube amp tones on a nightly basis, definitely cut your journey down by thousands of dollars and countless irritating hours by just going to purchase the Strymon Iridium first! I love this pedal. This is the best sounding amp sim on the market. I'm thinking about buying a second one to have a stereo set-up. The only downside is the power issues. Strangely enough you get a high frequency in the signal with both the adapter and a separate power supply. I even had a complete power lock down in my house, when plugging in the pedal. I just wish you could at least save one preset per amp. You can have two, if you set the control to one amp and save one preset with another amp. But that's it. Or you have to work with midi. But that's part of the concept of this pedal; hands-on and WYSIWYG. No one mentions there's a time lag when switching the pre-set on and off, so you cannot switch between amps mid song. I wonder if one could leave the IR empty, to use this pedal as a pre amp-only before a real amp. Have to try that one! I sometimes find the lay-out confusing; if the drive knob is somewhere around 2 o'clock, I tend to think I can use it to switch the amp type. Every time I use it I experience this two or three times.
A little perspective. I've been playing electric guitar for a little over 20 years. I've never had a good situation for loud tube amps so I've used modelers. The last few years I've used the latest and greatest Helix and Axe Fx offerings which are great in their own right. Endless options. You can get lost with chasing your favorite artist's tone. And I did. But in that process I started to become a tone chaser and not a guitar player. I obsessed over the tone and feel and played less and less. Enter the Iridium. Here's my experience: If you turn the knobs and adjust your tone using you ears not your eyes (what your eyes think a good setting looks like) you will easily find exceptional, inspiring tone. No need for menu diving. No need for settling with a tone that's 95% what you want. If you give it a chance this little box can get your musicianship back. There are wannabe recording engineers out there and for such folks I say go get an axe FX. If you want to grab your guitar and make music from jazz to acdc, the Iridium will get you there. This simple little box has breathed new life into my playing and it can for you too. Highly recommended.

I found one cheap and used and bought it with no preconceived notions. This pedal chugs and grinds in its own unique way. Not like a Bogner Red, Wampler Triple Wreck, or HK Warp Drive (all great pedals). You can play dissonant chords and it will evenly drive each note (A Vox Satchurator does this too, but the Metal Core has INSANE amounts of usable bass). I play through two 4×12's with V30's and G12T100's and it THUMPS! Turn down the gain and it backs down and lightens up. Works great with delay/time based effects.DaveMan
You can get every pedal in the world and BOSS is just going to tear them up and be the ones you want to go back to. The BOSS ml-2 is simply that distortion pedal you are looking for to carry you over the top in sustaining notes feeling like you're playing on butter, yet ripping that growling crunching chug you want to push thru the mix. Try using it also with a overdrive pedal and turning the ml2 distortion level down to about 7.5. Then use the overdrive to kick it back in for your leads. THE ML-2 METAL CORE IS… BOSS IN "BEAST MODE!!!" Hands down my favorite "Metal" Distortion pedal by Boss. They got everything right on this one. Deep thundering distortion that's up in your face. It's a very modern sound that's very defined yet clean enough to enjoy. I'm probably one of just a few who happen to own every distortion and medal pedal made by Boss. Each were designed for specific tones in the search for that perfect sound. While some are lacking to be honest numerous are very good. The ML-2 "Metalcore" is great. For someone who has recently started learning guitar and not in a position to own a classic or boutique tube amp yet, HX Stomp has transformed my learning experience. While not a cheap pedal to buy its much cheaper that its direct competition but with equal sound quality and flexibility. Its also much cheaper than buying a proper tube amp. Being a new player, it allows me to explore all manner of different amps to find a sound I like so when I eventually do buy a tube amp I’ll know exactly what I like. The size of the unit is just perfect for fitting onto a pedalboard and sounds amazing along with my existing pedals before it in the chain or in the Stomps FX Loop. Matching the tones of the songs I’m leaning is both fun and just amazing how close I can get in a few simple steps. It also lets me experiences how different the guitar feels to play through different style amps. With just simple fretting techniques I’m sounding like I’m an 80’s rock star which is something my small practice amp couldn’t even begin to reproduce. The sound quality and variety of tones available from sweet and clean to pure filth is a complete joy to use. My wife also loves it as she can no longer hear my daily practicing as now playing through headphones is so simple.GARETH W.
The HX Stomp is a ridiculous powerhouse of a pedal. I'm not a modeling expert or guru, but this thing is incredibly intuitive and fun to use. I've previously owned M9s and M5s and this picks up where those left off. If you're a fan of multi effect pedals, and interested in amp modeling look no further. You have to be strategic with what combinations you want since the DSP isn't unlimited, but I don't find that to be too much of a nuisance. Since you can run your analog pedals into it, efx loop or not, you have so many tonal options. I've purchased an external footswitch to add buttons and a dedicated tap tempo which I'd recommend to add functionality and ease of use. Besides those additions and minor gripes I'd highly recommend this unit. *The PolyCapo effect is my favorite! I use it to emulate a baritone guitar without needing to own another guitar and that alone to me justifies the price.
This unit is amazing value for money, so many tones available through the choices of effects amps and cabs it is almost overwhelming! There is however an amazing online community of HX Stomp users who share a huge amount of expertise so it was very easy to get up and running with the pedal. Brilliant. Only thing you should be aware of is that sticking it on a pedalboard isn’t the easiest thing in the world, it’s quite highly powered and the connector is non standard so you would need an adaptor to run it on a pedalboard. Delivers six different ways to color tone in a single box, for a rock-bottom price. You can use one at at time, which is really no drawback– just buy another one of these if you want to chain them. Experienced pedal users may have effects that are superior. But I'm a low-rent guy in a high-stress world, with no prior experience in pedals or tone shaping, and for me this is a gem. Instant therapy. A lot of fun, finding sounds that I've heard on songs and always wondered how people made them. I don't find it to be very noisy at the volumes employed in my apartment (duh), and a noise gate in my chain makes it virtually silent. The build quality is not an issue for me, at least so far. I won't be abusing it, and for the price, if I somehow manage to break the case… it's not a tragedy. It's a cool box for people like me who want inexpensive access to the world of effects. You get what you pay for. This pedal is fun to experiment with. Some effects are really good, others are not. The Flanger needs a high-cut filter. The Phaser is kinda weak and it sucks your tone. The chorus is really good. The delay would be really good, but it won't go slow enough for me. So I don't see myself using it. I don't like the Tremolo effect, but it seems to work fine in this pedal. The Pitch Shifter was my favorite effect in this pedal. It is sensitive to adjustments, but once I had it carefully dialed-in, it sounded great. The Level knob works great. It seems to blend the original signal with the selected effect nicely, without dropping the volume or sucking your tone. I use this pedal in the effects-loop of my amp head. The two parameter knobs seem to have a pretty big range. They go from subtle, to really wild. It takes some time to carefully adjust them to get the sound you are looking for. The knobs feel stiff when you turn them, which is nice. They will stay where you set them. Construction is plastic, so this pedal is not too durable, but it will be fine for home use. Overall, this pedal is great for the price. It has plenty of use-able sounds in it, but some of the effects are not perfect. This pedal would be great for new players, because it allows them to experiment with different effects to see what they like, and it doesn't cost much. I use a 1-spot power adapter with it, which works great.
This is a very good unit for it's price. I purchased it for my "little" amp when I go to friends place's to jam. My "big" amp has the same effects in it & are better. However, it does do the job I purchased it for. It is well made in China under German supervision. The Germans don't do rubbish products & that's what made me check it out. I'm not complaining about it at all, this is one of those "horses for courses" items. I have another pedal that does what this one does & more but it cost three times what this did. I'd recommend this to anyone that wants those effects but doesn't want to pay close to $200. My last remark is "you can't beat it for the price"Roger R.

Overall: That baby would be born a black and orange stomp box. Ok we all now how most of us are going to use this pedal, straight chainsaw mode. Many of us want that early entombed sound. The cool thing bout this pedal is it can be used for so much more. You can get slightly broken up tones, a nice Gilmour sound, and everything in between. Custom mode adds more bottom end making this thing sound huge. If you are running everything on ten and roll the low end completely off you go from sweden to norway circa 88-93 (church burning and murderous bandmates not included) seriously, this pedal is everything dirty and heavy that I could have asked for. I FINALLY found the sound in my head. Now if you'll excuse me, I have neighbors to annoy.
This recreation of a iconic pedal is amazing. They have captured the original hm2 perfectly but with modern clarity and custom settings. It’s getting increasingly harder to obtain a original in great condition and with reliability. I highly recommend this pedal it’s a great addition to anybody's board. I use this pedal to nail the David Gilmour tone to boost a fuzz but is highly versatile. I give this pedal 5 starsPaul M.

It is the sound of The White Stripes, QoTSA, The Black Keys. If that is what you are after, get it. It is a always on pedal and it feels like a amp, not a pedal. Listen to Magic Potion by The Black Keys or White Blood Cells by The White Stripes…this is that sound. This can also be a incredible tool in the studio if you want something DIFFERENT. You just have to want that sound. Quality build, very fair price considering, and it looks incredible. A tad bulky for a board however. I run it with the JHS Milkman Slap Echo/Boost and a True Spring Reverb pedal and a delay through a Deluxe Reverb Normal Channel. That's it. Again, its like a amp with a certain sound, so you don't need a lot to go with it.

I put this pedal in front of my DSL and I understand all the negative reviews. For whatever reason, this pedal shines in the effects loop. Run on the clean channel through the effects loop, it sounds amazing. You can achieve practically any quality Metal Tone you desire. It's adds another dimension / channel if you will, to my amp. I have clean, overdrive and the Metal Zone!!! I have amps with no effects loop and this pedal does not bond with amps like that.Robert, L
Its the original high gain amp in a box. If you cant get a good sound from it- then you havent spent enough time tweaking the EQ. And also useful as a boost in front of your amp distortion channel if you turn the pedal distortion all the way down and level up. Again- spend time tweaking those EQ knobs, theres a few sweet spots in there. Of course nothing sounds better than amp distortion, but when you need a portable amp in a box, this is the original. You can see by the amount of reviews and good reviews how popular this pedal is. If you ever felt that full blown metal distortion with depth and crunchy saturation was the sound you want, this was the start that all other pedal makers followed. There is a difference in types of distortion. There is Crunch Rock, there is Tube Distortion, there is Overdrive, there is Screamer style, there is Fuzz, there is Grunge, there is Classic Rock which is Plexi Rectified, there is Hi Gain Modern, there is Drop D style, each having a feel to the style you seek. This pedal can do a bit of most all of them, This is the versatility of this pedal. It has the flexibility to go almost completely clean to roaring metal. The parametric tone control knobs are more flexible than most any other pedals I have seen. I have done a lot of studio work and no studio is without this pedal. It is designed to be versatile but it's main use is of course, metal Marshall 4×12 speaker stack arena rock. It needs to be used thru an amp or multifx that has cab simulation. It has the habit of sounding great thru just about any amp. Some pedals that sound great in some amps do not cut it in other amps. This one usually works in most. Even amps like Mesa and Marshall this pedal gain goes down to just a tad of distortion that warms up your amp distortion. One of the very few pedals that blends with most other distortions. The most fabulous thing about this pedal is the parametric equalizer knobs that can fine tune to just about any tone you want. With most other pedals you are locked into their preset eq frequencies with no control over the eq frequencies. This is a great feature. I have other great distortions but none have the flexibility of tone that this one has for metal crunch. For all out heavy metal it cuts through the mix, no mudiness. At 9 o'clock gain it has great plexi tone. At center gain it has full Marshall Stack gain. For 80s metal this is no doubt my favorite pedal.
