I have played both electric and upright bass for 40+ years and like a lot of folks wanted a smaller, more portable, amp. I primarily play in a 4 piece acoustic group w/ 2 guitars, upright Bass, and violin. Volume is never an issue. I picked up a Max208 2 years ago and it has become my primary live amp. It sounds fantastic with either my MIJ fretless Precision A/E or any of my uprights. I have several larger rigs that sit in a closet as well as 2 Phil Jones amps (a Suitcase and a Briefcase) and I love the fact that the Peavey is: 1) Inexpensive, certainly for the level of performance. 2) Light and portable 3) Very flexible as far as tone control 4) Much better sounding live than the Phil Jones Briefcase which cannot match the low end of the 208. I did one mod to mine and added a Speakon / 1/4" combo jack to allow plugging in a small external speaker cabinet with it's own passive volume control that I locate behind the violin player who is on the opposite side of the stage from m and it works great for acoustic gigs giving a broad balanced stage sound. We only use (1) Bose L1 that all mics and guitars go through and it gives me an extremely portable system that has never let me down. I have a BSX Allegro EUB as well as a 53 Kay and an 80's Engelhardt. When I take the little Allegro and the 208 it is one trip from the car to the stage and ready to go. You can't beat it. If this ever gets lost, stolen, etc I will for sure get another. Peavey has a winner with this piece. I would highly recommend this to anyone (except someone looking to play loud rock) looking for a great inexpensive combo. If you want loud with it the 208 DI is very clean and it makes a fantasic stage monitor with the front angled speaker configuration.Steve
The sound to weight ratio on this amp is impressive. I bought it to replace/downsize an early 2000s Peavey TKO 115, and the 208 puts out more volume and weighs less than half as much as the 115! Simple controls, and enough options for a variety of genres. You get mild overdrive, vintage or modern voicing (via contour), sub-octave harmonics (via kosmos-c), and plenty of eq options. I'd recommend a cover (nearly any 12" loudspeaker cover will fit), because the finish is not as durable as previous models. I'm using this for small venues (no drummer) and medium venues with full band and PA.Trick

Fantastic bass for the price! I was definitely surprised by the build quality, sound and play-ability of this bass considering the price and where it is made. I rated it 4 stars as intonation was ok at best, still totally playable straight out the box regardless. I would recommend the Club Bass to anyone looking for a hollow bass guitar! I purchased this bass because complications from surgery made playing my jazz bass difficult. I was hoping that the quality would be at least acceptable. I have always heard that you get what you pay for, so my expectations weren't really high. I far underestimated my good fortune. The bass is very well constructed, beautifully finished, has great tonal range, and played like butter right out of the box. I was unsure at first how well I would be able to gig with it, but I sat in behind several different players at an open mic night 4 week after surgery, after not having picked up a bass in several months, and this instrument allowed me to play over 2 hours without any negative reaction from the other players. I was more than impressed and surprised, I was truly grateful. I don't know if it is possible for all of the models of this bass built to be this good, but I really believe that the one I received might be equal to the high-end models costing ten times as much. I own 2 of these Sunburst and Black. I have Labella Flats on the Sunburst and Roundwounds on the Black. FIRST let me say these are VERY playable and useful in most rock/classic rock/blues/jazz situations. They are VERY different if you are a solid body/slap/funk bassist. You can do it but it won't feel the same because they weigh nearly nothing and take some getting used to as the neck is VERY small. They require ALOT of setup out of the box. On BOTH I had to dremel the bridge down alot to get the action low enough. Now they play like butta'!! You can spend the extra $$$ for the CT version but those have a sound block and don't sound quite the same, the build quality is better and the pickups are different. HOWEVER if you are on a budget you can get ALL the same stuff out of these basses. Once you get the action/trussrod/and controls sorted out, you'll be surprised at how versatile they can be. I have over 20 asst Fender/Gibson etc. basses and I've been using these 2 for almost everything and get nothing but compliments on the tone. Just remember be READY to do some serious setup work, take some meat off the bridge to get the action nice and low and you'll find it to be a keeper. Almost forgot the case looks nice in the pics and it would be better than a gig bag but don't expect anything of quality. Both of mine one latch doesn't latch and are pretty shoddily built.Acebassman

I Have 7 Bass Guitars and 5 of them I had to modify and change the pickups, Pots and strings to get the Low Tones and sound I wanted. This Peavey Millennium 5 BXP Bass with Ernie Ball strings 55 to 130 sounds great and has good deep deep low tones without changing anything else. For the price this Bass is almost as good as my $700.00 Ibanez at half the price. I would recommend this bass to any one who wants to get a good 5 string for a decent price!!tnttbj

Overall: I’ve always been somewhat skeptical of branding based on an owners name. But having held this instrument I can understand why. The HP2 is handcrafted in the Czech Republic, mine using 30-year-old new original stock Birdseye maple. NOS is stamped on the back of the head stock.If you know the story behind this guitar, I think this small detail reveals why this guitar holds Hartley Peavey‘s name. I think he remembered why it was made, I think he remembers working with the original inspiration. You can definitely see it in the detail and quality in this guitar.Into it:Pros:-Stunning finish – Flawless.-The neck is made from a single piece of Birdseye maple with detail to matching the grain of the top and back of the neck.– The double dipped humbucker‘s or completely noiseless. I agree that tone is subjective – but I don’t really have another guitar to compare this to other than the original Wolfgang. -The humbucker‘s can be split – I’ve heard people go either way on liking or hating this feature but the tones are very versatile. Cons: If you don’t have one, that’s a con. I might change the case if I absolutely had to change something, but then again- I think it’s pretty much perfect too.
Overall: I had high expectations for a $2500 guitar that is not made in the USA. My initial impression was WOW! However, I started noticing the following issues as I get to know more about the product:1) The Peavey Floyd Rose is a cheap imitation with very stiff turning screws in the bridge. The bottom ends are not smooth so it roughly rubs against the horizontal saddle screws. A definite flaw compared to a 15-year-old guitar I have with genuine Floyd Rose which I never had such an issue with even today.2) The neck humbucking pickup is mounted at an angle from the body. In short, it's not straight.3) The first two frets from the nut are higher enough to cause string buzz.I took a chance on this without the Peavey guitar-making heritage because it's an EVH design. You're more than likely to get a much cheaper MIM EVH Wolfgang without all these issues. Best European luthiers, what a joke. Check out the story of how Hartley tried to put plywood pieces inside the 5150 amps to which EVH argued and won.It all makes sense to me now. The Peavey HP2 has no soul and inspiration from EVH. It's basically a capitalist-inspired replica of the Wolfgang. Hartley has done the same as he did with the amps when he was working with EVH. It's like a replica watch made in Korea.Joseph

I can only talk positively about this guitar , its the best I've ever owned. Other reviewers' complaints about the front veneer are specific to this color (you can see the odd 2-tone effect in the photos). This model also comes in "root beer," tobacco burst, and translucent black. Those finishes all blend the front veneer pretty seamlessly with the mahogany back, while still showing some nice front grain (very subtly in black). Yamaha's Indonesian-made 174 series mixes together fairly unbeatable features and tone in this price range. They aren't the world's fanciest basses, but they make no serious compromises. Necks are 1-piece maple (no 5-piece matchsticks). Bodies are made from real tonewoods: 3-piece mahogany (174EW) or 3-piece alder (174). The P/J pickup combination offers a wide range of tones, with solid electronics throughout. Nice touches: The neck is skinny (like a Jazz Bass') but extended to 24 frets. The downsized body is really lightweight, while substantial enough to be resonant. With the right EQ, these can really punch. Only downsides: I played 2 of these at my local GC, and noticed a real difference in tone. So I'd recommend buying from a local store where you can compare 2-3 copies. Also, the neck's satin finish feels a bit coarse to me. (I love satin finishes, but like them smoother.) While priced like a beginner's bass or impulse purchase, these are well-made, viable, giggable instruments. I've had my similar RBX270F fretless for years, and love it. I was playing guitar, but thinking about getting a bass again. I wanted a solid bass, without investing a lot. The Yamaha was a perfect pick. The construction and finish of the bass I received was perfect. The bass I got is really good looking, in person. It plays great. I've had so much fun playing it, that I've put my guitars aside, and I am now studying bass seriously. After many months playing it daily, I think I am going to lower the action slightly. Tone wise, the two pickups, along with the tone control, cover a lot of ground. I've gone from playing this through a guitar amp, to playing it through two different 100/150W combo amps – the better of which cost 3x what the bass cost. The amps make a huge difference – more than a change of bass. I've thought about trying to mod the bass with higher end pick-ups, but frankly I'm afraid I'll mess up what is currently good about the bass' tone. As I progress, I will probably buy a much higher end bass, something on the order of 1-3K in price. But I believe this bass is decent enough to gig with, unless you are in Victor Wooten's class of player. For comparison, I bought one of those Steinberger Spirit basses (5 string) also. I bought this bass awhile ago. After reading several negative reviews I think the issues they have is this bass is shipped with no tension on the truss rod/neck. Out of the box it is not playable, sounds horrible and you need to adjust the truss rod to add relief to the neck. After making that adjustment this bass is a great beginners bass and sounds good. You will not be disappointed. Just watch a YouTube vid on how to add relief to a guitar neck / adjust truss rod.Gerald
I got this just to use for home recordings after YEARS away from bass playing. I've owned better in the past, but this is not bad! It has a good tone and the neck is easily playable. Sounds good playing through a Fender Rumble 25 watt amp. If there is one thing I don't like, it's the round-wound strings. I first started with flat wounds, playing funk and R & B, so the strings aren't as "warm" as I'd like. Still good for slap styles or for rock.Lee
I bought this bass back in 2003, and wanted to start playing again. I played bass in the early 1980's till 90's. I grew up with Rock to Metal days and had a Fender bass. I got caught up in marriage and working 12 hr days , so I sold my equipment. This bass plays well once you get it set up. Sounds great for a budget bass. Bought this as an open box return. The finish was slightly scratched near the bottom strap peg (so slight I didn't notice it for several days) and one fret marker was missing leaving just the hole. For the price the damage was VERY minimal. I have yet to replace the missing fret marker and have never noticed any issues at all while playing. Overall, considering it was an open box return, the quality of the bass greatly exceeded my expectations. The bass itself is very nice. Good tone, ease of playability, sound electronics, solid construction, and overall of good quality. I wouldn't choose it over my Peavey T-40 but that's because I bought the Peavey new in 1980 and we've been best friends a long time. Otherwise the Rogue could have easily become my go-to bass. In summation, I would have no problem in recommending this guitar to a friend.Pokyhawk
There's not a lot to dislike. I thought I would have to strip the finish and redo it to my liking, but the blue sparkle actually looks quite nice. Tuners are sealed, and like the pickups and controls might need upgrading, but are perfectly serviceable right out of the box. Maybe this was because it was a scratch and dent special, but there was SEVERE fret sprout, so bad that I scratched my hand badly during initial playing. Fixing that isn't terribly difficult, though, and during that fix I noticed the action was a bit high, so I lowered it. Once I change the strings I'll give it a full setup for neck relief and all. I'm not docking it any points for this as you as the buyer should be aware that any instrument that you get in the mail, especially at this price, will likely need a setup done. I bought a rogue A/E guitar on a scratch and dent special and it's served me well over the years. I expect even better from this bass.SKR3N3S
Don't waste your money on this bass. Get an Ibanez GSR 105EX instead. I wanted to try this bass out and played it for a day and then put it back in the box and put it in storage. The craftsmanship is very poor: back of the neck is not completely smooth and feels sticky, fretboard looks dull and faded, paint was messed up in some areas, and the neck is unecessarily long. The strings it comes with are awful too and leave your fingers smelling like metal. The pickups are terrible (had to turn up the volume really high on my amp to even hear sound from the bass). Overall, this is NOT a good bass guitar and you will be better off putting that money elsewhere.egears123

Mine came with a warped neck, body is super soft and easily dings,and finish as you would expect is consistent with most low cost cost Asian basses. Electronics also. Required a lengthy setup but still could not optimize with bad neck. There are better options in a beginner bass. The Rondo SX and the lower end Ibanez lefty basses are just two examples.kraigster414

I called Peavey, have been using their equipment for years, PA's , Basses, Bass amps and guitar amps and have always been satisfied. This is the worst sounding bass cabinet I have ever used. When I spoke to them, they said that I am the only one that has complained. i have a 4 x10" TXF cabinet which sounds great and wanted to get 2 sets of 2 x 10" for easier transport.I swapped speakers between the cabinets and the TXF cabinet sounded great with either set, the Headliner 210 sucked with either speaker. I did some internal measurements of the 210's and used speaker cabinet software and the 210's do not meet any specifications for a 2 x 10" speaker cabinet. bought them online and cost too much to return them. sold 1 set of them for a substantial loss and still can't get rid of the other one.Guy
Overall: I played a show recently that had an in house sound system. They had a headliner410 and a peavey tour750 amp. It sounded good but…. I had to go out to the trailer and grab my peavey 210cabinet with a built in tweeter. Im not impressed by cabinets that dont have a horn/tweeter, Im a funk r&b motown bassist. On some songs I have to slap or thump. Together the 2 of them sounded awesome……..Maverick
WOW is the only way to describe this cabinet. I purchased a "scratch & dent" product, let me tell you this cabinet was in almost perfect condition all but for a "REAL SMALL DENT" Played this cabinet for the first time "Live" three days after receiving it and …WOW…paired it with a 1×15 cab and a GK MB500 head and I literally shook the venue to where you could actually feel the vibrations on stage and the dance floor, thinking it was the 1×15 I disconnected it and to my surprise it was the Peavey 4×10 doiing the shaking , again WOW ! Some people in other reviews has giving negative comments for the "Carpet" to me no big deal because it is "A Lot" cheaper to recover the carpet then Tolex when that time comes, so not a big deal for me. I did install a set of removable Fender casters because this cabinet is heavy (75 lbs) and they make it real easy to move in and out of gigs… I also love the fact that I DOES NOT have a horn that suits our style of classic rock that we cover. YES I Highly recommend this cabinet over the more expensive brands, WHY pay three times the amount for the same results !!!!!Doug, bigdog2116

This one of the best sounding Macartney style basses. What I like about it is the bridge pickup has been moved forward unlike other brands. This gives the bass a warmer tone. The Wilkinson pickups sound great. The only downside is the string spacing is more narrow then most basses. That's why I gave only a 4 star rating.janr816
