I used this in a Country cover band and weekly duo. Long battery life. Strong signal. Damn near bullet proof construction. Not the greatest sounding if it isn't plugged in but that doesn't matter if you're using the guitar to it's fullest capability.basquiat420

Reviews:
I can't tell you how impressed I've been with this Ovation Celebrity Elite maple top guitar after owning it over a year now. I owned a deep body as my first made in the USA Ovation back in the 80s. Loved it but it had pretty bad feedback problems back then. I later bought a brand new Ovation Elite made in the USA that was at the time in the 90s over 1500 bucks. It was a shallow bowl and it sounded great, played great had a solid spruce top and was beautiful all around. The hardshell case was nice also and it sounded better plugged in and had no feedback issues at all. My son has that guitar now and he has the first one too. I still see those two and play them now and then and let me tell you this Celebrity Elite stands neck and neck with the other ones I had in every way but the one thing I have come to love is the mid depth bowl! It's more like the thickness of a normal guitar you play and for me it stays in my lap without the roll much much better. Besides being beautiful and I can't believe I'm going to say this but this guitar with the maple top has a better sound unplugged than the 1500 dollar one my son has. They are hard to tell apart plugged in a blind test using three of us musicians also. Overall for the money I can't recommend a better guitar to people. Some of my friends proclaim they are all about the sound in their speakers they buy for their home stereo or their cars or trucks and of course for their guitars. I have nice solid wood guitars and access to Martins and Taylors and more from time to time and I'm all about the sound also! And if you are truly honest with yourself and not letting a personal bias get in the way of your judgements the fact is that the Ovation has the best sound period! Nothing in my house has a better fuller range covering every note so evenly as this guitar. So anyway, this thing rates man! If you are hesitating don't. Everything about this screams quality! The abolone or mother of pearl trim whatever it is is beautiful and yet subtle without taking attention away from the wood and its truly like a piece of furniture in the house. When I hang this one behind the door to my closet and block the view of it my wife asks me to put another guitar there and move it out where it can be seen it's that striking looking. Also, I've bought guitars and then paid a pro to 'set it up' with better easier action many times but this one came as well set up as many I've paid to have done and I didn't feel the need to adjust it further. For whatever it's worth. I realize this is my third comment on this guitar just know you really can't fully appreciate this guitar until you have it in hand and play it and hear it! It's a big WOW at that point. And I also have come to love the strings that come on this one. They are perfect and in my experience have worn well.
Very clean , plays like I had hoped . Super pretty ! Pleased with electronics . Big Bang Guitar for the price . The Blue Maple top is a conversation in it self . If you want a Ovation Celerty Eilite , get the Case . It needs to be protected . I had a USA made Ovation that was In a Sunburst years back . I can't tell much has changed in it quality from China Made . This new Ovation has a awesome mother of Perl inlay and it is very nice . I have other nice Guitars and feel proud to have this Great playing guitar in My life . My sweet wife give to me for a special Christmas gift and it will be use to bless her ears everyday .Doug
My previous review I said the tuner that's built in did not work very well. The truth is I just didn't know how to use it very well. Once I learned it actually is spot on. This is a super guitar as easy to play as my electric the next a little narrow but fortunately I sing high in most of my stuff is with a capo. The sound of this guitar is amazing everybody that's heard it turns around and has to listen because it is so crisp! And the amount of bass well not just the base but all the ranges that comes out of it, well it's really amazing. But I wanted to correct the last review because everything I said is true but the tuner was just different to me and I didn't exactly know how to use it so it was operator error and not the fault of the guitar.

Reviews:
I owned and played one of these semi-pro for a decade back in the '80s because it was a hassle switching from 6 to 12 string guitars and always having to redial the amp for the different pickup outputs. The heavy mahogany body (and it IS heavy, especially neck-heavy, the reason for the 4 rating) produces crystalline sound with excellent articulation and sustain and the output between necks is well-balanced. The 1275 gave me the versatility and ease of switching (one switch) that I wanted and a sound I loved. My single-neck 12s have been Rics. The 1275 lacks the Ric "jangle" but that's a minor drawback. I also owned a Carvin koa doubleneck: decent 12 string half, totally useless 6 string, but it was well-balanced weight-wise. I played a BC Rich "Bich" doubleneck and the thing is an ergonomic nightmare and didn't sound nearly as good as the Gibson. I installed a belt hook on my strap for the 1275 keep the necks from falling down when I let go and it worked well. If you want a doubleneck, get the Gibson.Jerry
Got silver burst finish which is beautiful and rare. What a beast of an axe. This is a keeper. Epic look and feel. Very playable.RBC
cannot tell from the original. looks exactly as Les Paul's.goodbuy_555
6. Ovation Celebrity Elite Acoustic-Electric Guitar (Black)
Product Details:
Hey guys! i ve had this guitar for the better part of 10 years and decided it s time to let it go and make room for a new acoustic! this model was made before fender bought ovation and moved production to china so it has an interesting history. it s an acoustic-electric and sounds great/ is in good condition; although it s missing a piece on the back (as seen in photos) that i m sure can be easily repaired at a music store. overall, it could use a tune up and some new strings as well.the price includes a really nice hard case and a black suede strap. let me know if there are any other questions i can answer!
Reviews:
I recently bought this guitar and was aware of the reviews on here criticizing the action and frets. Straight out of the box, those reviews ain't wrong, BUT if you put in a little setup work, this is a really fun guitar. After putting a shim under the saddle, tweaking the truss rod, and swapping out the strings (Elixir nanowebs are my preferred), this guitar plays like a dream- none of the buzzing I've seen listed in the other reviews on here. That said, I can't speak to the electronics since I bought this one strictly for messing around at home; for practice purposes and entertaining my toddler, it already serves its purpose well. Most exciting though: NO MORE LOST PICKS IN THE SOUNDHOLE!Tom
Great acoustic electric guitar for this price range. Well balanced tones from low to high. Works well with or without an amplifier. It doesn't have the rolling lows like my dreadnoughts, however, you wouldn't expect that from an instrument of this design. The intonation of the instrument was the first thing that really impressed me, which was dead on, all the way up the neck. Acceptably lower action than a regular acoustic (probably adjusted), with no fret buzz. The neck itself is slightly narrower than I'm used to, however, it is very fun to play, and easy to adapt to. I use lighter gauge strings on this, which seems to be preferable, as opposed to medium strings, which I use on other instruments. It is a beautiful instrument with a striking, unique design.gvbrown
I think all hecho en China models have a hump in the fretboard beginning around the 12th fret, which causes the B & E strings to sound brittle and tinny, if they don't outright buzz. A guitar tech friend calls this hump "ovation-itis". That's why they set them up med/high at the factory, which is hardly playable. This one was a surprise ! The action was almost low enough to be fun and required only a fret dressing, levelling on the 12th and above frets, and action adjust. It needs a little more, but it's fun to play now. This is the 4th celeb elite I've ordered, and 2nd one I've kept. The first, a supershallow bowl, required popping the frets off above the 10th and fretboard plained before re-fretting. The cost was almost as much as I paid for the guitar, cha-ching, lesson learned. Once you get the kinks out, these guitars are great for almost anything. The mid-deep bowl has much better lows and overall projection than the supershallows.SecretAgentMan

Reviews:
Nice Ovation guitar. The least expensive model still is enjoyable to play. The thin neck and slim body are comfortable. The string action is reasonable and the neck smooth. The sound is adequate unplugged and resonates nicely. Plugged in it is even better. It is a good knock around or first guitar.merlynus
Having never learnt 'properly' to play and after a gap of too many years I am re-learning. The guitar to my ear has a very good tone and for the money is excellent and would serve any beginner well if you can't decide, or have yet to decide, on what style of guitar you would like to play most.Steve R.
Very good guitar for a entry level model especially when plugged in. There was some poor finishing on the binding on the model I received. I contacted GAK and they sent a courier free of charge for it to be returned and supplied a replacement.Dave

Reviews:
Bought this guitar for a specific purpose – as one half of an acoustic guitar duo, we sometimes need to either tune down 1/2 step or we use alternate tuning. This was a "kill 2 birds with 1 stone" purchase – tune the 12-string neck to EEBEBE and tune the 6-string neck down 1/2 step. Visually the guitar is beautiful. First thing I noticed out of the case was that the neck selector switch is very flimsy and awkwardly located. I've only used this guitar at a half dozen gigs, and at Friday night's gig there was no sound output at all. The volume slider actually came off the guitar on stage. Very embarrassing. Had to retune a standard tuned guitar to EEBEBE on the fly. We will see how Ovation handles my warranty claim. The guitar has taken no abuse at all – always in the case. I think the electronics are flimsy at best. All in all – very nice to look at, but not as well made as it appears.Tonto Goldstein
Ordinarily, one thinks of Applause guitars as being Ovation's overseas line. This guitar arrived with the "Made in Korea" sticker prominently emblazoned on the back of one of the headstocks. I had assumed this would be the case, though. A doubleneck (Made in the USA) Ovation would probably run upwards of $5k! For a "shallow bowl," it seems a bit deeper than I thought it'd be–I'd hate to imagine what a deep-bowled guitar would be like! The action is a bit high from the factory, but at least that gives you the option to lower it (mine came with spacers for the saddles). If the action's too low, there's not much that can be done (for a reasonable price). I always play in standard tuning and haven't had issues with the 12-string bridge lifting off the soundboard. I've had my guitar for about seven years now, and the volume control (or any other part of the electronics) hasn't broken, dropped into the case, or anything. They're all fine. Granted, I might play this guitar five or six times a year (Suite Madame Blue, mainly), though. The main reason for that is the poorly designed neck selector switch–it's a "paddle" style switch that sticks up about 3/4" from the side of the otherwise very sleek guitar. As clumsy as I can be, it's a wonder I haven't knocked that baby off yet! That design may make it a bit easier to switch necks mid-song, but Kamen (the company that owns Ovation) is one of the world's premier engineering companies of military hardware. Surely they could have come up with a better, more rugged way to switch between necks!Musical Friend
On first sight and thought it seems like a good thing. It can be but realize that it is an off shore production guitar and it needs things such as action set up and yes the switch and electronics are the much cheaper cost even for an off shore plant with what appears to be limited quality control from the one I was holding. The wood is Pli Wood/not choice spruce top from a temp controled stock room and it has very little to be desired within the fret job from the model I had in my hands. I wanted it but after I picked it up I didn't want it. But your probably safe with Musicians friend on returning it. Some off shore guitars will surprise you with pleasure. For me the one I had in my hands didn't. If it was made the way everyone here wants it to be made it would run you much more $$.

Reviews:
You will be drawn to this guitar because it's both atypical and beautiful in appearance once you are captured by the grape clustered multiple sound holes as was I. It's also relatively inexpensive given its features. I found it an "economical" way to purchase the Ovation look for my collection without having to move up to the Adamas models which are three to four time more expensive. FYI,Ovation Adamas guitars remain Ovation's USA made brand (New Hartford, CT) while all other Ovations are now produced in Korea, as is the Elite, covered here. Fender music corporation, who now owns Ovation, chose this route after acquiring the company. The Elite has no sonic limits when plugged in. The Pro-Op pre-amp system features an "expressor" slider that adds or subtracts harmonic richness to the overall Elite sound. It works in conjunction with a drive dial that controls the level of expression. Along with the three band tone control and an outstanding pick up, the Elite can conjure up some enticing sounds. (I play it through a Fishman Loudbox Performer.) The neck is more akin to what you'd expect with an electric guitar (albeit a bit fatter) with a nut width of 1 5/8 inches. Nice for easier to attain bar chords but less accomdating for finger-pickers. The deep contour bowl is reasonably comfortable but plan on using a strap to hold the Elite in a comfortable position. The action out of the box is reasonable but at least in my Elite's case, could benefit from a set-up. This is not a lightning fast neck but falls within what one might expect for a mid-level acoustic guitar. As alluded to above, acoustic tone is average and in my opinion volume is somewhat subdued when compared with a similarly priced Ovation Legend that uses a standard centered round sound hole. (I own one of those as well, an older USA made model)I would not compare its acoustic tone to a high end Martin or a highend Taylor. The Ovation Elite has a sound of its own that works just fine so long as you are not expecting a rich sounding, all wood, Martin Dreadnaught. Again, the Elite comes to life when plugged into a sweet sounding acoustic amplifier. All things considered, I've no regrets on the purchase and the Elite looks beautiful when not being played, hanging on the wall. Guitar art work, if you will…. Over and OutMarty
The finish was good although there were some rough spots on the neck. The was a small separation of the body between the top and the bottom. However it was easily fixed with some superglue. The keys worked fine, but the strings were really old. Just a slight bow in the neck that was easily adjusted. The guitar sounds great.cuevas533
The guitar was slightly damaged because of poor packaging. But it still sounds great.leftystrat

Reviews:
nice and small looks fantastic. by the way this is black quilt not brown as said, darren
First and foremost, this guitar is gorgeous. I purchased the transparent regal to natural (blue) color scheme, and as great as I thought it looked online, it looked even better in person. It's sort of like a "moonburst" with a pearl color transitioning to a deep blue on the edges – very unique. If you do a google search for this particular guitar, you can find owner-posted pictures that give different visual perspective (and more accurate) from the stock GC picture. Guitar sounded great right out of the box after a quick tuning. Great quality strings, electronics (battery included) worked perfectly, and I didn't need to have anything adjusted. Quality seems high, no flaws were noted after delivery. As for the sound, it seems like there are some mixed reviews on the "super shallow" bowl from Ovation, but I was pleasantly surprised by the range of sound from the guitar. Obviously the highs and the mids are clear and bright, but the lows are much better than I anticipated for the shallow body style. I personally opted for the shallow bowl as I wanted a comfortable guitar with a compact size (yet full size) to play around the house, and I certainly feel like the sound doesn't disappoint. Sure, it doesn't have the bass presence of my full size dreadnought, but it sounds great nonetheless for its size, better than I anticipated. I was strongly considering a mid-depth bowl Ovation while purchasing this particular guitar, but I am happy I went with this particular model. After owning this guitar for a several weeks now, I still wear a big smile every time I pick it up. Would pick this guitar up again in a heartbeat.Ashcon
This guitar looks and plays great! I used to have an Ovation years ago and I loved it. Regretted selling it. I had forgotten how I loved the sound. So glad I returned to Ovation.gamikat38b3

Reviews:
This is my second Ovation A/E. The first was a Celebrity CC057 Narrow Body. I have been an active musician for 20+ years now, playing gigs once or twice a month. This guitar has a voice like a dreadnaught, straight up. Played unplugged, it's loud and strong across the spectrum from low to high tones. Plugged in, the electronics really shine. The tuner is a nice feature, and the battery is super easy to change, due to the great design of the electronics panel. I like the flat finish on the spruce top. I hear people complain about how it's not flashy. I don't care one whit what a guitar LOOKS like…it's what it SOUNDS like and PLAYS like that matter to me. And this guitar satisfies me 100%. I actually like the understated finish on the top. The strap lock buttons are a fantastic addition. All in all, this guitar plays like a dream and sounds excellent. I tweaked the set-up a bit to suit my playing style, but that is to be expected from any new guitar. I have never been disappointed by this guitar, and I don't think you will either.TaosMax
I've owned this guitar since it was introduced in 1992. It's not a Jumbo body so it's a lot easier to play than the original Ovation design. He eq works fine but the volume knob is easy to turn by accident. Every now and then the instrument sounds wonky . Don't panic ! Its just the battery needs to be replaced. Don't trust the battery indicator light on the eq, its green even when the battery is weak. Disconnect the jack when not in use as the drains the battery prematurely. This really is the the most playable guitar you'll ever own.pemopssr
I have an older Guild, two Martins, a nylon La Patrie. Thus, I have a wide range of sound covered. I've always admired the Ovation sound, and now I've added that to the repetoire. Photo is of "my family" on Hercules rack from MF. None of my other guitars are plug-ins, thus, I'm set to go. Sounds great (better!) unplugged. I'm not so sure about the built-in tuner… it doesn't agree with my ear; no big deal. I patiently waited for a 25% off deal from MF and got this git at a super deal. Very happy happy happy. I have to go play now.Jamoof

It's angelic and I adore it. Fingerboard is slick and makes it easier to play than any other 12 string I've tried. Plugs in, built in tuner. What's not to like?ewhi6557
The guitar was beautiful and sounded wonderful. The problem was a loose pickup/pre-amp. I bought it used, so it's hard to say if it was shipped that way or damaged in transit. Nevertheless, Music 123 promptly accepted return and credited my PayPal account. I was so impressed I bought a new version of the same guitar from them.vcc26

Reviews:
Très belle basse avec bonne acoustique. Assez facile à jouer, peux mériter quelques réglagesBobo
Quality product as you would expect. However needs tweaking in setting up. Arrived with action too low, even with truss rod fully cranked open. Fret buzz when played acoustically – which is the idea, isn't it, that it works unplugged? So I resorted to fitting a taller bridge nut that I happened to have in my guitar toolbox. Cured, and happy with it. But the moral is – you have to make it your own, and that might require some fiddling about. Also in my case I installed a homemade thumb rest, which assists my style and also aesthetically is an improvement on the unadorned plain body IMO. As a design piece, for me the advantage of the roundback is you can both see better what you're doing, with the bass tilted towards you, and feel the notes vibrating against your ribs as well as listening. So, an enjoyably organic experience, unplugged for accompanying something low volume. In the end does the job.ffretnot
