I have a Chibson Les Paul that looked amazingly good but unfortunately sounded a lot less than good. Wilkinson pups didn't do much to help so this purchase was to be my last resort. Since each pickup comes with a separate ground wire I was able to wire out-of-phase in addition to the usual split coil effect. These 2 effects (3 if you count using them together) is what's made this purchase worthwhile. The combination of both effects sounds especially great!. I purchased an Area Hot T bridge pup to replace a broadcaster style pickup in a 2013 american tele. I got this to match even though I liked the twisted tele neck pickup tone just fine. Not too difficult to install except that the screws that fasten this Area T neck pickup to the pick guard are too long. The mounting screws bottom out in the pickup cavity. I tried using the screws off the twisted tele pickup but they were a different diameter (smaller). So i just screwed these down until I took up the slack to the spring between the pickup and the pick guard and chopped off the excess screw end, about 3-4mm. Not difficult to chop, I just used the side cutters on a pair of large needle nose pliers. It sounds good, but I kind of raised an eyebrow at the tiny gauge wiring off both pickups (like hair thin).JoelBrett

I replaced my Ibanez's RG4EXFM1's oroginal bridge pickup (INF4) with a Wolfgang Bridge Humbucker Pickup. In terms of ease of setting it up, I needed to study my guitar's wiring system by looking at it (I don't think you need the original guitar's wiring diagram). My Ibanez had a "5 way blade" as a switch board with 8 connecting points, while the instruction that came with the Walfgang was a 3 way. The original had three wires and the Wolfgang had two. I attached the black wire to the volume control and the red one to the swtichboard (one of the two that the original pickup was connected to; I believe you can guess which). It worked. I really like the look of it and appreciate that it's Eddy Van Halen's. In terms of sound, I can't hear the difference. Overall, I like it for its brand image and the cool zebra look.Kaz
Bought the Wolfgang pup to replace the bridge pickup in my 10 year old Peavey Wolfgang Special, which lost all its output all of a sudden. I don't know if Eddie was having a final jab at Peavey since their fallout, but the EVH pickup will NOT fit in the cavity for the Peavey Wolfgang. The only way to install it is to either rout out the body of the guitar where the screws attach the pickup to the wood or, (what I chose to do)grind the tabs off of the pickup itself where the screw holes are. Basically I had to void the warranty before I ever even installed the pickup, which is the only reason I gave it four stars… Luckily, once the pickup was installed(although it did seem to sit a little high even when attached flush to the wood), it cleared its throat and screamed…Clean settings shone brightly and cut through the mix and the high gain settings caused the guitar to shine like it hasn't in year, even with the stock Peavey Wolfgang pups…Sustain for days, and all registers have bite and control. Are they overpriced?…ummm yeah, I'd say so…but I am definitely not disappointed…maybe Eddie can use the profits for the band so they can buy some Geritol and at least finish their tours…fretmeister61

From clean country to heavy levels of amp gain. the dimarzio vintage minibucker mini humbucker pickup is all about clarity, dynamics and lots of sparkle. in a word, the vintage minibucker has chime. it excels at clean country sounds, but it also shines with heavy levels of amp gain because it doesnt get muddy with a distorted amp. the dimarzio vinage minibucker neck model performs equally well with crystal-clean amps or extreme overdrive. although it is a fairly bright pickup, it isnt harsh-sounding and will also perform well in the bridge position of both solid and semi-hollowbody guitars. it has a well-balanced overall sound which allows it to work well in many different guitars and musical situations, and split mode produces a chimey, strat-like sound. its not quite as loud as a paf, but it reacts immediately when a string is picked hard, and it cleans up when the volume is rolled down. both neck and bridge models are wax potted and include 4-conductor wiring.

I finally decided to buy a mini after years of admiring the tone of greats like Johnny Winter and Allan Collins. Since I don't have lots of money to throw around, I went with this model and all I can say is, now I can't put my SG down! The thing just shimmers. Gibson gear 490r modern classic humbucker neck w/ nickel cover the mid to late 1960s saw the emergence of a very different type of music coming from the clubs of england. it was an interpretation of the blues that hadn't been heard before, and it was much harder, more rocking, and definitely louder than anything else before it. as such, this new genre's players were demanding more powerful amplifiers with increased volume outputs to satisfy their sonic explorations. this led to a call for a more versatile pickup that could split coils through a push/pull knob, and prevent microphonic feedback from occurring when the volumes were turned up to maximum levels. gibson answered this call with the introduction of the revolutionary 490t and 490r pickups ("t" for treble, and "r" for rhythm), which has the traditional characteristics of the original "patent applied for" pickups, but with two key modifications. first, a four-conductor wiring scheme allows the 490s to be connected to any push/pull knob, which lets players split the coils and increase versatility. gibson also introduced wax potting, which does away with any air space, minimalizing microphonic feedback. the 490r is a humbucker with the tonal characteristics of an original paf, with a slight increase in upper mid-range response. the 490t bridge pickup is calibrated to match the 490r, with pole pieces aligned a little further apart to accommodate the spacing of the strings at the bridge, which is different than the spacing of the strings at the neck. chicago music exchange is an authorized online gibson gear dealer.

I have been searching for years for a pick up like this! I primarily play Hard Rock and Metal. I have spent hundreds of dollars on Seymour Duncan, Dimarzio, and EMG pickups. I was always looking for the pickup that was so well rounded that it sang when I played my guitar. But, I could never find a pickup that gave me the clarity to hear every note on the low end and fatten up thin mids and treble. Well now I've found it. Railhammer pickups are 5 star plus in my book. Loud, clear sound, and tones through my amp. Clear sharp lows which are not muddy. Mids and Highs even and not thin. They actually sounf beefy. Artifical and natural harmonics ring out. NO feedback at all, and they are as quiet as my EMG 85/81 set. As a matter of fact for a set of passive pickups, they put my EMGs to shame! I have a Hypervintage (neck) and Chisel (bridge) setup. Really worth the money, you can't go wrong buying this pickup.Frank
I've had a number of Railhammer pickups in various guitars over the years, since they first hit the market: Gnarly90, Tel90, Alnico Grande, and Hypervintage and they have all been fantastic pickups. The Hypervintage is one of my favorites (put it in 2 guitars), because it has a great vintage PAF tone when rolled back and/or played clean, but really shines with a little overdrive. Very responsive to pick attack, super articulate, even with heavy overdrive and is one of the easiest pickups I've found to bring out nicely controlled pinch harmonics. I tend to favot single coils and feel that many humbuckers are too dark nd mushy, but these have a balanced brightness and clear tone. Definitely in the same class as Seymor Duncans and Bare Knuckles, for half the price!Ronbo

Bought this as the finishing touch to my Telecaster project. I was given the original guitar which had been left out in torrential rain in someone's garden years ago. Having refinished the body, replaced the neck and upgraded the hardware I decided to increase the tonal range by replacing the neck pick up with a Humbucker pickup. This involved some careful surgery to accommodate the new, bigger unit and a replacement, purpose made scratchplate ( customising the original didn't go well!) The new pickup is a genuine Fender part, substantial and well made. I installed this Satch Track Neck pickup in the neck position of a Fender Strat with a SSH configuration and a maple neck. It is a little darker than I expected, as I heard people describe it as a Strat style sound but with the fullness of a humbucker. I wired it to a parallel / single coil / series switch. The single coil and series positions are lighter and more strat-like. I like having the depth in the neck position that this pickup delivers in the parallel position. Combined with a Duncan SSL-3 (hot RWRP middle pickup) and a Pearly Gates in the bridge, this Satch Track makes a versatile neck pickup in this combo. The 2 and 4 positions have the right quack, especially when the Satch Track or Pearly Gates are in the single coil positions. In the neck position on the 5-way switch and the parallel position, the Satch Track Neck has plenty of stones. I am still trying to figure out how to fine-tune my processor to take advantage of the heaviness of this pickup in humbucker mode. I wanted something with a humbucker tone capability in the neck position, so this works for me. Someone who wants more strat sounds in the neck pickup might want to go with one of the many other mini humbucker options out there (Duncan and DiMarzio make a lot of variations on this theme). I play Strats. I'm getting into playing with a slide. I didn't want to buy an expensive Les Paul. I use to play LP Customs and then came the metal revolution of the 80's. I switched to Strat styles with the Floyd Rose. This Satch Track neck pickup is just what I needed to give me a fatter sound from a Strat i've set up for slide. Its more powerful and a little brighter? It was a lot cheaper than buying an old LP and I still get a pretty good sound for slide. You don't have to have an SG or LP with this.JC
I was trying several single-sized humbuckers for the single coil neck position of a Gibson SG-Z. This is an excellent pickup, but it is basically a Chopper with a little less output and livelyness. If you are looking for a higher output strat flavored pickup, save yourself some money and get a Chopper instead. Sounds great tapped. Yields a nice quack in tweener positions. Bought this as the finishing touch to my Telecaster project. I was given the original guitar which had been left out in torrential rain in someone's garden years ago. Having refinished the body, replaced the neck and upgraded the hardware I decided to increase the tonal range by replacing the neck pick up with a Humbucker pickup. This involved some careful surgery to accommodate the new, bigger unit and a replacement, purpose made scratchplate ( customising the original didn't go well!) The new pickup is a genuine Fender part, substantial and well made. It's done exactly what I was hoping to achieve and I now have my perfect electric guitar with a fat, dirty sound option as well as a clean traditional Tele sound.jo_611328

Habe das Teil gerade mal ein paar Tage und kann jetzt schon sasgen, dass ich es nie wieder hergeben möchte. Egal ob Clean, Crunch oder High-Gain: der Klang bleibt immer glasklar und ha dabei weder zu viele Höhen, noch zu viele Tiefen. Auch klingen die Akkorde auf der 6. und 7. Saite (spiele in drop G) jetzt nicht mehr so matschig und sind schön klar raushörbar. Melodien jeglicher Art sind ebenfalls kein Problem. Kurz: ein geiles Teil!
I installed the Alpha in a basswood guitar with a Floyd Rose. I like a neck pickup that retains brightness and clarity, has a modest open vowel quality with hard picking, and doesn't compress. This pickup joins the Mojotone Black Magic and Seymour Duncan Saturday Night Special as one of my top three favorite neck pickups. If you have a similar taste in neck pickups, I highly recommend the Alpha.Basswood Rules

Incredible tone for the CC/Praise genre. More highs and more lows than a traditional Humbucker. Not overly hot and super cleans. Great crunch and more when you apply some heat. Using Suhr 5 position switch wiring diagram is critical! Vastly different usable tones. My Tele is now an absolute beast with zero bad habits!igozoom

I put this pickup in a cheap HSH Strat that I've had sitting around since the early 2000's. The stock pickups were too thin and sharp sounding–except the middle single coil which sounded okay. I was deciding between this Railhammer pickup and humbucker sized widerange pickups from several manufacturers. I'm glad I picked Railhammer. This neck pickup is exactly the fat noiseless single coil sound that I was searching for. It sounds thick with just a touch of hair in the mids. The clarity across all strings is the best I've heard. I also put a Cleancut pickup in the bridge position but I didn't like that as much as it sounded a little ***** on my Strat. I added a cool rails (humbucker in single coil size) to the middle position–but I wired it in series–so that the low end rounded out the ***** bridge pickup. This is a great sounding set up and maybe one of the best for clean and spanky tones of any guitar that I've had yet (I've owned Les Paul, Hagstrom, Strats, Tele, PRS, Dan Electro, etc.).Jonathan R.
I never thought I'd get my volume this equal across all 6 strings. The half-and-half design really appealed to me, but there was no way of knowing until I actually bought and installed it. It's just as effective as the design implies, it's not a novelty! I play a lot of complex chords using all 6 strings in a high gain setting, and every note cuts through, retaining touch sensitivity all the while. There is an inherent compression in the pickup which might not be everyone's cup of tea, but in a mix it's not a problem, if anything it's a benefit. The harmonic content is rich and musical, the high output is assertive without being abrasive, the bass response is fantastic, the highs are pleasing although subdued, which is ok with me because with normal pickups I usually dial the tone knob down to 6 or 7. I keep it wide open with the Railhammer and it sounds awesome. I can't recommend them enough if you want to generate a rich wall of sound with one guitar. I'm surprised this company hasn't become industry standard!Brendan

Great upgrade, especially for the price! Recently procured a music man sub 1 guitar, and the pickups were just lackluster. Along with that the volume pot was crappy then the pickup switch completely broke! I decided to replace switch, volume pot, and upgrade pickups. Pickups installed easily and sound good either clean or distorted. The neck pickup is very smooth. Both pickups seem to be brighter versus darker. Here's my caveat, for a volume pot I ordered a 1M pot versus the usual 500K pot. I'm not sure I would recommend that as the bridge pickup is pretty crispy! 🙂 Amplified Parts did a great job in ordering and fulfilling. I would recommend ordering a pair of these from them if you're looking to upgrade your tone at a reasonable cost. Thanks!Henryfordcastro
