The Maton 808 fits perfectly. Usually the 4" will fit most guitars but, not this one. I had noticed a few questions concerning this so I thought I would post this. A 4" cover can be ground down to size but, it's a chore that you may not want to tackle. The size here is actually pretty close to 3 3/4". The Maton is 95mm which translates very close to 3.75". A few thousands of inch at best. Pretty snug fit but, you don't want it slop around at all. Just FYI.Terry
I purchased this guitar twice because the first one had a bend to the neck, so the strings would buzz and not play properly on higher frets. I returned it and then ordered another one assuming the first was a fluke. The second one came in and was fine, but within a month the same issue occured. Still have it and just play the lower frets, but still was a waste of money. Looks amazing and sounds great when it works properly.Matthew
I played guitar for 15 years back in the day and owned 6 acoustic guitars in my lifetime. From mid-priced Takamines to cheap Washburns. I went to Guitar Center for a "learn how to play again cheap guitar" and tried all the cutaways in the $150-400 range. Fender, Yamaha, Alvarez, Ibanez and even above my price range. A salesman said one sentence. Try the Mitchell Guitars, they are the best bang for the buck. I went home that night and did my research. I looked at wood quality, body/bracing styles, neck sizes/wood types, hardware. Made a list and went back with 7 guitars in stock I wanted to feel/hear. Yes, Mitchell guitars absolutely had the best materials for the money. But how were their playability and actual sound? I tried a few models and they were either soft/flat sounding or had a sloppy fretboard. Other brands in the same price range had much cheaper materials. It came down to the Alvarez Regent (wish they had the Artist series to try) and this Mitchell guitar. I was able to buy the MX430QAB on sale but this guitar plays above its actual price. I tried a few $600 dollar guitars and the quality is much closer to those guitars. Bass tones are deep/rich/punchy (not dreadnought deep but enough). The mid-tones really shine and the highs pop without being too bright or overwhelming. A wide-ranging rich-toned balanced Orchestra guitar. The neck is so playable. I have read that about other guitars. The Talman series, or Festival series. Maybe they just needed to be setup. This guitar was set up perfectly. Going up and down the fretboard doing scales or chords was a total breeze even for someone who hasn't picked up a guitar in 5 years. It holds the tuning very well and I am sure this guitar will settle in and have an even richer tone over time. Guitars all have different personalities, so trying them out is recommended. But this is a good bet for the 300-400 price range.Myles

I had done my homework and thought that for sure I would purchase either a Fender or Yamaha concert body style guitar! I had this on my wish list for a couple of years and after finally getting to try it out at my local Sam Ash, it did not disappoint. Online reviews were consistently good with a few mentions of the strings being coated and how it gave an unusual feel and sound. According to the Michael Kelly website, the strings are D'Addario EXP16 Coated Phosphor Bronze, Light, 12-53, so they shouldn't be some off the wall knock offs but my experience over the last few weeks has been that after a few minutes of playing, the tips of my fingers on my fret hand and the palm of my strumming hand turned black. I've never had this happen on any other guitars I have. I tried rotating after 15 minutes between my Jackson, my Strat, my Martin Backpacker and then my Michael Kelly and, every time, after a few minutes of playing the Forte Port, my fingers turned black. I've played a lot of guitars since the 80's (not professionally) and this is a new one on me. Obviously, the strings can be changed but I feel it is worth mentioning because for someone's first guitar, it may be off putting if they are unaware. If I can edit a review, I'll try to add a pic of my fingers (there's no way to make that sound right…) when I get time. That's my two cents…Sean
Overall: I was reluctant to buy this Michael Kelly. I like to try it before I buy it . With that being said , The guitar come it flawless. It was packaged very good . I played for about an hour after opening the box. The action is spot on. It plays and feels more like an electric guitar. Hammer on pull offs pitch bends are perfect. The sustain goes on forever. The neck feels a touch wider than my Martin, but that's a good thing for me. There are no fret buzzes at. It's vert light and comfortable , light weight is a must , I have had shoulder surgery 3 times. The balance and weight are near perfect . Michael Kelly may not have the prestige of Martin. Gibson and such , but as far as the sound and quality build , it simply can not be beat in this price range.Mark
I was looking for an acoustic electric guitar to do some home recording with. I already own 2 dreadnaughts so I was looking for a concert style body. I also wanted something other than a spruce top guitar, as that is what my other two acoustics are made from. I happened across this Michael Kelly model and did a lot of research to see if it would fit my needs. It looked and sounded great. The price was amazing. I was thinking that it was almost too good to be true. I ordered it from AMS and it got to me in 5 days. It's all I had hoped for. Great sound, beautiful guitar, and it was set up well. Last year I was in the market for a good guitar, tried lots of them, and finally settled on a Taylor 114e, which I love. But if this Mitchell had been in the showroom at that time I would have bought it hands down not because it sounds better than my Taylor but because it rivals it in tone for a third of the cost. This guitar just sounds great with or without an acoustic amp! It's mahogany finish is gorgeous to look at as well. It has a shorter scale than my Taylor but the Mitchell's neck fits my hand perfectly and plays fast. I also prefer the T333E's electronics over my Taylor's when recording through my mixer but when recording open mic the Taylor has the edge. It would have been nice for Mitchell to have put a strap button on the neck heel but no big deal. The tuners may turn out to be its weak spot but time will tell. I have a mx430 quilted ash burl model and, it is a superb guitar. I was looking for a second or a backup guitar and, Mitchell scores again. Was wanting the auditorium size and, really didn't care if it had a cutaway but, it had to have the good Fishman electronics. This particular model has all mahogany construction, never had a guitar that had this except a solid body electric. The sound is smoother and, not quite as bright as my other one, this I like very much. I had an open pore finish Les Paul and, the neck was open pore also, didn't like it the way it felt so, it went away. The neck on this Mitchell is satin finished and, very comfortable to play, no problems here. The open pore finish is really quite beautiful. Not to mention this model was on sale and, I scored an open box deal which made this even better! I highly recommend this instrument to anyone looking for a Great guitar at an affordable price. I have been a musician for over 50yrs and have had my hands on just about every brand of guitar out there and, Mitchell has shown me a quality instrument for a working musician's budget. I had to do a few minor adjustments when I received this but, not much and certainly anyone could do by themselves. I do this to every guitar I own, it's nothing more than just personalizing it to my tastes. I was looking for an inexpensive acoustic electric as an alternative to my dreadnought. I tried a number of Breedloves, Epiphones, Ibanez and others. On a whim I gave this a try and was surprised by the sound, fit, finish and playability. The sound reminds me of a great old Guild I learned on. Very clear and chimney but not harsh. Great for fingerpicking. The neck is very comfortable for me with nice action out of the box and ample string spacing. Tusq nut and saddle a plus. Electronics better than expected. I bought this guitar off the wall at GC after playing it and a few others in the < 500 price range. To me, it was the strongest contender in store based on tone, even with well aged strings, and feel. I've made no adjustments to mine other than restringing with D'addario EJ11, and have played it probably a cumulative 4 hours in the week I've had it. It has opened up a little more at this point and the tone is quite satisfying. This is my first exposure to a mahogany top and while I'm sure the effect of that varies from model to model, this one has dispelled my general concern of a lack of clarity and volume that I had based on many demos and reviews characterizing mahogany as being "warm" and "mellow". The size of this guitar makes it well suited for the couch which is where I've played it about half the time so far. I haven't plugged it in so no comment on the electronics. I already hold this Mitchell in equal regard to my mid level Martin, Taylor and Yamaha. It does a different thing and confidently ends my search for a small (ish) guitar to round out the group.Kenny

Went into my sort-of local Guitar Center store with a modest budget to add a new acoustic to my collection, and it was a quiet day, so I was able to 'test drive' a number of guitars in the designated price range (and slightly above if there was a noticeable quality jump worth the investment). After sampling about a dozen or so, I was surprised that this Mitchell model remained constantly in the running sound-wise, competing with and surpassing brands and models that I would have preemptively assumed to be front-front-runners for my hard earned dollars. In the end, the sound, the materials/construction of the instrument, and the increasingly important-to-me neck/fret board dimensions that my arthritic hands could navigate more comfortably than my other acoustics won the day. It being an acoustic-electric did not have a huge bearing on my choice, but I have found that those enhancements have won me over after spending some time at home plugged into an amp. This a beautiful ukulele. Each individual ukulele in this style sounds a little different, so I recommend that you play it in the store before buying it. I played 3 different ones– 2 sounded dull, and the one I bought had a very bright rich quality. It also comes in 3 colors — natural (light brown), blue, and aqua. The blue is almost black– much darker than the photo– but very beautiful. I bought the aqua one. The ukulele is heavy, solid, and has a thick neck, which makes fingering the chords easier. I've had this guitar for almost two weeks, and that might not be long enough to judge its longevity and durability, but it's still the most comfortable acoustic I've played. The beveling fits so neatly under my arm as I strum, where other acoustics always leave a line in my arm where it rests as I strum or pick. Also, its tuner is a dream. My other guitar with a built-in tuner requires a plug in the jack for it to work. It was nice and convenient, but this one is way better. It also came pre-loaded with D'Addario strings. The size of the body plus the bevels in the side give a very deep tone, as well as volume in the acoustics. I would absolutely recommend this to all fellow guitarists. The name might not be the most popular, but it should be. This is simply the most comfortable acoustic I have ever played.Ron
I usually have been an electric player and have been wandering into more acoustic styles lately, so I figured it's time to get an acoustic. I spent a few weeks playing different models in the the sub-$800 range and this was the best feeling and closest to how I like my sound. I put on a set of Elixir 80/20 strings right away and was impressed at the sound. Very full and bright. My only complaint is that the fretboard feels cheap. I hope that'll change as it gets worn in and dirty but its nothing that affects playability. Plus, that cutaway for your arm is genius and should be on all acoustic guitars!Ranana
I played in bands and did acoustic gigs for years when I was younger. Took a break (basically life happened) but decided recently to plunge back in. Was actually looking at other guitar brands when I spotted this beauty by accident. She was tucked behind a few others but I could see the finish a mile away. Almost looks hand hewn with the little intentional scratch marks. Quilted back is gorgeous and I love that the white parts are more of a cream. The whole appearance is very rustic, very woodsy. Yes, there's some "cheaper" aspects to it but do far I love it. The look, the feel, the price, everything. OH! And if it hasn't been stressed enough, the beveled comfort edge where your forearm rests is the crowning feature. No more dig marks or deep impressions on your skin! A lot of value, especially at the discounted sale price. Handsome design. But… Where is the quality control? Sharp fret ends, action set waayyy to low. major fret buzzing. several of the tuners were sticking. Rough edges on wooden bridge, strings are "rough" and lifeless. Pre-amp works well, but the tuner is inconsistent. Fretboard wood was really dry… did they store it dry storage? If you are willing to invest some time and effort like I did, filing the fret ends, raising the bridge, conditioning the wood, etc. it can serve as a first beginner guitar or a beater that I wanted. I'm no expert, but one can't expect a novice to take care of these issues. Getting a luthier to fix things properly, and you've doubled the price of the guitar. I've been spoiled. My other 4 guitars are medium to entry-level Yamahas, and none had these type of issues. BTW. the finish is not black, it is a charcoal grey and is distinctive. The neck is easy to play, but the sound and resonance is typical for a thin-bodied guitar. But, with a built-in tuner pre-amp, it's a decent value.Lawrence
Sounds good so far. First impressions: the "metallic black" is more metallic than black. It's really more of a shimmery dark grey than black; the pick guard which IS basically black contrasts more than product images suggest. Frets are a bit sharp at the ends, but otherwise, no major complaints.Jeff
The electronics didn't work well at all. I was able to sporadically interface with my Tonewood Amp, but it was hit-or-miss. I know it wasn't my TWA or cable that was the problem. I liked the sound of this guitar, and it was comfortable for my frame. The action was perfect for me out of the box…about as low as you can get without fret buzzing. However, all of the fret ends we're sticking out and would have needed filing. The fretboard and bridge wood seemed soft and rough. I suspect neither would wear well. There was a spot near the sound hole where it looked like glue had been smeared when the pick guard was placed on. That would not rub off. Gooey streaks elsewhere did clean off. There were some ripples in the finish around the sound hole. The color was more grey/gunmetal than black, and spray marks were visible in the paint. I got this guitar on sale at 40% off: $127.19, delivered. For that price I probably would have kept it had the electronics worked properly. I returned it.Regina

I purchased this guitar without ever playing it or hearing it in person. Right out of the box, this guitar sounded amazing! Such a deep, rich, full sound! The neck has a really nice feel about it and the action is just right for me. The electronics are superior to my other acoustic-electric, and the built-in tuner is quite handy. This guitar sounds just as good going through a PA as it does unplugged. For the price and the quality, you can't beat this guitar. I have just come back to guitar after playing banjo for several years. I was looking for a reasonable priced quality and comfortable guitar to use at home and while camping. I didn't want to worry about dings but still wanted something very enjoyable to play. I think this fits the bill and it also comes with a built in tuner. Took my daughter to local GC to find a good first guitar. Im a firm believer in not buying instruments that are way out of your league, but a good first guitar should also have a sound that you love and motivates you to want to play better. We played about 20-25 guitars and this one outshined all others in the $300-$900 dollar price range. It projects so well and has really great tone. We both had that "that's the one" feeling about the guitar. It's just a great guitar. It was the only torrified Mitchell guitar there, so not sure if they all are this good, but given this one's sound, playability and higher end options on a fairly inexpensive guitar, I would highly recommend it to any beginner to intermediate player.Russ R
