I debated whether to mic the guitar and go for a 100% acoustic sound or install a coil pickup and enjoy an electric sound with acoustic overtones. I went for the latter and purchased the Lace California pickup. I wanted something that would tuck up neatly against the neck and slender so as not to obstruct the sound hole. To tuck it tightly against the neck I had to trim a corner of the pickup to clear the raised pick-guard. Once installed it looked pretty good. It got the acid test under florescent lights, played through a vintage Fender Bassman. The sound was better than expected and hummmmm was nowhere to be found. It's been more than a year and the pickup is still installed and doing its job. Yes, I would do it again. It is a quality built product, delivering as advertised, at a fair price.Tuna Tim
The Pickup; This is a real nice sounding pickup. I have two of them installed on an older Alvarez and a Martin LXM. I don't really have any gripes about the tone and overall sound. I like the way they fit into the sound hole with the cork clamp setup. It would be nice if they had a volume/tone wheel like the more expensive brands, but it's still ok with me. They are very quiet and almost feedback free. It was a real nice upgrade to both guitars. NOTE: Will fit into the sound hole of Martin LXM but just barely. The Endpin Jack; Seems to be of good quality but the picture MF has is not what the endpin really looks like. The picture shows an endpin jack with enough threads to go though the small block of wood on the Baby Martin. Mine came with a rubber coating and lacked enough thread to pass through this block. It worked perfect on the Alvarez and I had it installed in about 15 minutes. Instead of sending it back, I ordered the endpin jack like the one shown in the picture with plenty of threads to spare. NOTE: The original endpin hole on the Martin was way to small, so drilling that hole larger to 15/32" will be required if you put one on a Martin LXM. Bottom Line; This is a nice sounding pickup and very easy to install on most guitars.Foxcrik

Just after Christmas 2012 I had this installed in my Epiphone EJ200. I usually obsess over things like this for a while, reading review after review of the choices and looking at vids on YouTube. Finally I pulled the trigger on this one, and I must say it's pretty darn impressive. It gives a really really close to true acoustic sound, but where it totally shines is when you throw in a bit of chorus or some other effect. Five minutes ago I was playing along with some bluesy backing tracks through a Vox AD30VT modeling amp. I dialed in a nice jazzy tone, added some delay and I am VERY happy with the sound. I had expected the original batteries to have fizzled by now, but 11 months and hundreds of hours later, they are still good. I do need to mention that they had the price for the passive pickup on the stack of these active ones, which we discovered after it was in my guitar, so I got the deal of the year! Pay the extra, it will be worth it spread out over the years.warren foil
I have had an Epiphone EJ200 for a few years now, great guitar, great sound BUT the Shadow e-sonic pickups were not. The under-saddle became very noisy and finally gave up. Been looking for a pick up to amplify my Gibson J45. Love the natural sound of that guitar and wanted something that would stay true to the acoustic tone. Tried the rare earth HB after reading the other reviews and was not disappointed. Absolutely great pu. Keeps as true to the natural sound as anything I've heard. I actually like this better than the factory expression system in my Taylor and I thought that was really good until I heard the Fishman. It's dead quiet too. No hum or feedback due to the humbucking features. You get volume control only with this but I prefer to use the amp to control everything else anyway, so no down side for me as is. I knew the minute I heard this, it was going to stay with the Gibson for good, so I permanently mounted it. Very easy to do if you're handy with tools but not for the faint of heart. You will need to drill out the end pin hole on your guitar to accommodate the end jack and will also need to shorten the lead that's supplied and do some soldering. Take it to a professional if any of this makes you nervous. Was so thrilled, I bought a second one within a week for another acoustic I have and permanently mounted that one too. Just be sure to leave enough lead wire slack to allow you to take the pu out of the hole for battery changes. I highly recommend this to anyone looking to amplify a straight acoustic and wants to stay as true to its original tone as possible.

Despite seeing the one-star review on this item, I decided to try it. Big mistake. When plugging in the cord to power up the pickup, the light would come on when the cord was half-way in and then turn back off when the cord was fully in. So I returned it for another one, figuring I couldn't get two that were faulty, right? Wrong. Big mistake. The second unit did the exact same thing. Basically, this thing is junk in a box. I've had my Taylor 614CE Grand Auditorium with the Taylor Expression pickup in it for almost 14 years now and never was pleased with the EQ options with the pickup. Solo/acoustic, it was fine because it had a nice "warmth" about it and made my sound more "full," but performing with my band and/or other musicians, it would "muddy" up the sound and would never "cut through" like I wanted it to. I tried various pedals and other EQ'ing options, but nothing every worked to get the sound like I wanted it to. Another problem I had was it had ZERO percussive capabilities for my looping shows. A fellow musician recommended the Fishman Matrix Infinity, and after weeks of researching various pickups, I decided to go with it and can't be more happier! I can get a "kick drum" sound out of my acoustic now, if needed, and the blending option allows me to get various effects/sounds I never had an option to get out of my old system. I would HIGHLY recommend this pickup for any guitar!

This pickup is a quick fix for the acoustic needing a pickup. With just the end hole to be drilled, it's a fast install. Not to mention the sound! Perfect balance, unlike the UST, (under saddle) transducer, where you have to sometimes use shims under them to hear all the strings evenly. Great tone, great projection, good value. There are no on-board controls, however, so all your tone and volume has to be done at the amp or P.A. I would highly recommend. 🙂mtybluesman

I've owned this pickup before & have an OM/GA sized acoustic. It's 93mm across the sound hole so normal sized humbucker sound hole pickups won't fit. I knew this one would because of its spring. That really saved the day! The volume control on the pickup is very useful. It has the hum rejection of a regular humbucker but doesn't have that 'thick' sound. It works great with acoustics & of course you'll have to cut the mids to get 'that' tone. Great pickup for tight places. EZ in, EZ out.The Shadow Knows
Have used it in a Gibson B-25 concert size guitar since the 70's. The tone I get with the aged acoustic is thick and mellow. It nudges me toward the music of Sade and Santana and Rickie Lee Jones. My guitar shop installed an end pin quarter-inch jack (the strap goes right around it) and that solved the cable placement issue. The cable goes to the jack and is entirely inside the body. In truth, you can get almost any sound you need simply by adjusting the tone of your amp. Brighter sound, darker, in between; it's all there. It's basic: cheap but reliable and unobtrusive.trudeau

Einbau problemlos; musste aber 2,5 mm Klinkenstecker zum Anschluss einen Preamp anderwärtig besorgen, da ein solcher unverständlicher Weise im Shop nicht angeboten wird. Zum Produkt: Habe den Tonabnehmer an einen vorhanden gewesenen Preamp von Nautilus angeschlossen. Das Ergebnis ist überraschend gut. Sehr ausgewogener Sound ohne Betonung einzelner Saiten. Dazu noch Ausgangspegel (zuminderst mit dem beschriebenen Preamp) ohne Ende. Und das noch dazu ohne Rauschen! Das einzige was wirklich stört, ist der happige Preis. Fairerweise muss ich dazu sagen, dass ich nicht weiß, wie billige Piezos klingen.

Awesome sound. I researched and came to the conclusion that the Fishman Humbucking PRO-REP-102 was the best choice. I decided against the PRO-REP-103 as reviewers report sagging of the flexible shaft for the mic, short battery life and other issues. The PRO-REP-102 has wonderful, natural sound and no hum or issues.keybanker
