After some adjustments to truss rod, bridge action ( intonation was good) and pickup height I've now got a 5 string J Type bass that I will happily gig when the venues open again. Although not as slick as my MTD and Warwick basses, the Sire gives me a whole range of tones that I can't squeeze out of the other basses. The active eq is really excellent, but the ability to use and adjust the passive circuit with the master tone control makes this more versatile than any of my other basses. Fabulous, straight out of the box and arrived in tune! Read and watch the reviews, believe the hype. You won't hear a bad word against it. The only negative I found was someone did't like the headstock (which I love). This is an instrument way above its' price point in every regard. It feels quality, the sound is incredible. There's a very good video on Sires site with Mr Miller himself demonstrating it's scope. It's a very versatile instrument, the pre-amp is the same across the whole range and is quality schmutter, the sweepable mids let you fine tune your tone. And you can have it passive too and the option to string through or over the bridge. The rolled fretboard is the icing. I'd gig with this no messing, and can't wait to record with it. Bought it as a second bass for the occasions when taking my Thumb Bass gives me too much anxiety. I have owned a Fender USA Jazz once and always liked the idea of a jazz but just found them irritating compared to how well made and thought out the Warwick is. This bass on the other hand is very good value. Its a little rough round the edges and needed quite a bit of setting up to get it right for me but it was playable straight out of the box just the action was quite high. The two things I am impressed by is the tone and the neck. Both of these have been really well thought out and make it (in my opinion) better than the Fender I had. At least I can adjust the truss rod without having to take the thing apart and it stays where I put it. The weight is subjective, yes it's heavier than a Fender, not by much though. However its like a feather compared to the vastly more expensive Warwick. So in conclusion this is great, you get a good bass that plays and sounds much better than the £320 I paid for it and I now have a Jazz bass that doesn't irritate me.Reviewed by Andertons Music Co.

This item was returned in great condition. it looks and plays like new, with only minor signs of use (slight scuffs, etc.). the sire marcus miller m7 is known for its pure humbucker sound and modern feel. with a big, deep and warm sound, it sits very nicely in the mix when played with the band. when thumped or slapped, the m7 has a distinctly different sound than the other sire models. it has coil-splittable marcus miller pure-h revolution humbucking pickups and a heritage-3 preamp with bypass for serious sonic control. rolled fingerboard edges on the ebony fingerboard make it incredibly comfortable to play. with both classic and modern feel and design, this bass can produce the desired sound for all genres of music from soft to even strong metal grunge. for an added special touch of detail, the m7 truss rod cover and back plate are also made of wood for a premium look and feel.

For the price, I cannot expect anything else. The active pickups are amazing with the ability to switch to passive (im not used to having a switch I've only had a passive) It looks amazing and so much lighter than my EDC700. The neck and body of this bass are beautiful, and it plays like butter. One piece of advice though. When you order this bass go to the Hipshot website and order the HB14 tuners. These are the tuners that Hipshot manufactures specifically for this bass. The tuners are NO GOOD! I couldn't get the bass to stay in tune with the current tuners. The bridge is also sub standard but it's a lot harder to find an after market bridge that will fit but again Hipshot has one that will work. It's the FM2 bridge. So if you want to gig with this bass you're going to need to shell out and additional 250 for tuners and a bridge but after that you'll be ready!MdeInKc

With the on-board pre-amp it's versatile. If you want punch you can get punch, and if you want a more melodic sound you can get that too. The fret board, with its rounded edges, has a comfortable feel. I love the swamp ash body. Bought it as a second bass for the occasions when taking my Thumb Bass gives me too much anxiety. I have owned a Fender USA Jazz once and always liked the idea of a jazz but just found them irritating compared to how well made and thought out the Warwick is. This bass on the other hand is very good value. Its a little rough round the edges and needed quite a bit of setting up to get it right for me but it was playable straight out of the box just the action was quite high. The two things I am impressed by is the tone and the neck. Both of these have been really well thought out and make it (in my opinion) better than the Fender I had. At least I can adjust the truss rod without having to take the thing apart and it stays where I put it. The weight is subjective, yes it's heavier than a Fender, not by much though. However its like a feather compared to the vastly more expensive Warwick. So in conclusion this is great, you get a good bass that plays and sounds much better than the £320 I paid for it and I now have a Jazz bass that doesn't irritate me.Reviewed by Andertons Music Co.

The quality of this bass is outstanding for the money. The fittings all appear to be well made and well designed. The sunburst finish is exceptionally good as is the high gloss finish. I was worried about medium small frets as I am used to medium jumbo but they are fine and don't notice the difference when playing. Even cheap guitars are well made these days but what really sets this bass ahead of the rest is the pickups and active EQ. The pickups are really good, and the active EQ gives you more tone options than you can ever hope to use. I am in love with this bass. The sound has such a nice punch to it. The neck feel is perfectly suited to my hand. I'm in several bands and members from both bands told me they love the sound both on-stage and out in front. The build quality is excellent. I have two Fender Custom shop basses, a J-bass and a P-bass. Have had both for decades. I enjoy this new Sire PJ more, for all the reasons listed. Mike Conyers at Sweetwater helped me talk through the pro's and con's of the bass and was instrumental (ha! get it??) in helping to facilitate my Q&A as well as communicate lead times, arrival and quick shipment.

These are the most amazing, under-rated bass guitars – I have bought 3 now over the past 2 years. This one is a 5-string, and the other two are 4-string bass guitars (one of woods and round wound strings to give a brighter sound; the other of woods and flat wound strings to give a deeper, richer sound). I use them at live gigs, and people always want to know the make of these bass guitars because they sound phenomenal! Marcus Miller would not put his name to a piece of rubbish! All my bass guitars are precision (as opposed to jazz) bass guitars, but you have the best of all worlds because the lower end of the neck is extremely narrow, you have a precision and a jazz pickup, and the fact that it is an active bass makes all the difference in that having that 'first stage' amplification enriches the bass contribution when your music is amplified futher by the back line equipment to give a beautiful, rich, powerful sound. I love these bass guitars – I don't ever feel the need to use the famous 'F' (brand) word when I have these instruments which I strongly believe give all the popular established branded instruments a very good run for their money!Reviewed by Andertons Music Co.
This is seriously a phenomenal bass for the price range. It's versatile, easy to play, and fits well for my needs an army musician. It only needed a few tweaks to the action and intonation out of the box, and I had it gig-ready in about 5-10 minutes. There are only 2 major complaints that I have about this bass: 1)it didn't come with a gig bag, and 2)the P pickup is a good bit louder than the J pickup. However, I'll still give it five star rating given the great price. I was drawn to this bass because I'm a die-hard fender player, I wanted a 5 string PJ style bass, and fender doesn't actually make a 5 string PJ. This bass is easily as good of quality as my $1500 American J and P basses.Eric
I bought the sire p7 five string 6 months ago from musicians friend. I wanted a pbass sound but in a 5 string. I am a converted guitar player to bass for some 20 years. I play with a atleast weekly with c & w group and also with church praise team. This bass is wonderful. It is of course a single coil and not a humbucker like I always played before. This bass has a great tight sound and does not boom like a humbucker. But the low B is the best I have ever played. And You can dial up any style. In addition to the sound, it is very playable.
