Reviews:
I must to have pedal for rhythm guitar players. Very fat an saturated sound, perfect for riffs. I use with a vintage style Ibanez trough an clean tube amp channel, and it is amazing. The tubes are roaring with this pedal. I think it best suits for semi-hollow, vintage instruments with warm sound, cause combined with the Muff you will get a fat but enjoyable sound,. but with very a clean and bright instruments it will be more like harsh. The size is much more pleasant than the original Big Muff and its still massive. The tone on/off switch is a good feature, cause when you have your own EQ settings most of the time you dont want to mess it up with your pedals, but if you want, its still an option. Also, I recognized when its the tone off, you get more gain and headroom. The tone wicker give you more high-mids/presence. Useful when play muffed solos and you go higher in the fretboard.
Can't say much that hasn't been said already. What I can say after using this pedal for a year is that it is the best bigmuff out there. It's all about the tone wicker. To me it's like a vintage bigmuff switch. you flip it and holy dancing cows instant grit and velcro-like-texture fuzziness. you combo this with the right tube amp and Wallah! Siamese Dream tone. Cool thing is, costs much much less what you'd pay for a vintage (banged-unreliable-overpriced-oversized) V4-V5 bigmuff. Careful with the tonebypass, the thing is a 30db volume boost. good for saturated tubes I guess. in my opinion, it's as useless as it was 30 years ago in the V3 or V5 pedals. it does sement this version as a definitive throwback. both switches are there for a reason, EHX knew it, I know it and now you know it. (funny story: Musiciansfriend sensors the word MxUxFxF. cannot use it in the review or tags, yeah, it's a dirty woord to 'em. They did allow EHX to put it on the title though!)zaiten
very classic big muff pi. standard fuzz/distortion. these aren't the best sounding big muffs, but they still sound great for way less money. having an led and power supply jack for modern power supplies is a plus. the construction is way better than the early ones, so less failures and more consistency. true bypass is standard dp3t switches. you can always gut it and put in your own 8) you can't really go wrong with the big muff pi. my suggestion tho is run it on batteries that are almost dead.. some true magic happens when you starve these down to about 6 volts.phatjbp
2. Electro-Harmonix J Mascis Ram's Head Big Muff Pi Pedal
Product Details:
The j mascis ram’s head big muff pi fuzz pedal pays homage to the sonic center of the alt-rock legend’s iconic tone of equal parts thickness and clarity in a special edition white and violet finish. “that’s my sound. the muff is always on,” j says. “all distorted sounds begin with the muff. that’s what i grew up playing so it’s kind of amazing to have my own signature one.” based on the highly coveted 1973 electro-harmonix v2 violet ram’s head big muff, j’s signature big muff produces the indulgent fuzz and exceptional sustain used as his sonic center for decades. the fuzz is sonically more articulate than other big muffs with excellent string separation and dynamics, which make it one of the most versatile big muffs. the pedal’s response feels smooth and aggressive making your leads scream and chords thunder. feel the fuzz of a guitar giant: the j mascis ram’s head big muff pi fuzz pedal from electro-harmonix.

Reviews:
How odd. This review was flagged for writing Big Mu** using the two F's 🙂 For the money, this is a really hard pedal to beat. It goes from mild and laid-back to wild and intense. The controls feel great…like as in excellent quality. This is a reissue of the original Big Mu** PI. I tried a Big Mu** PI with Wicker and forget about it. It hissed so loud in Wicker mode that I couldn't even here myself think and it got even worse with the tone switch off. And even in the so-called Big Mu** PI mode, it didn't sound anywhere near as good as this Rams Head does. And, the Rams Head is quiet compared to the BM PI with Wicker. One more thing, The BM PI with Wicker does not say anywhere on it nor in the included paperwork where it's made, whereas the RH BM PI clearly says New York City on the face of it…Vincent
The tone sweep is nice and there are some interesting spots because it is linear while kind of non-linear at 10 to noon and about 1-2 on tone control. I can't say why but usually I had purchased like more expensive versions of ehx pedals. That being said, I think people need to realize that these are quite accurate reissues and circuits, and just because it is an affordable pedal doesn't mean it isn't great.
Overall: Floats like a stone and stings like a nest of angry hornets! This box has the buzzsaw sound down pat. The fuzz is a thick, smooth, and consistent. I like this kind of fuzz in particular because it’s less fuzzy and little more distortion-like. The Tone knob has a really wide sweep from boomy bass to mid-range Hades. It has plenty of gain on tap and even sounds pretty good with the guitar’s volume rolled back a skosh.I’ve never used the original Green Russian Muff and have only heard them compared through videos online, so I can’t speak as to how they’re different/alike. I got it because I didn’t want to haul my vintage Black Russian Muff around from gig to gig anymore because it’s getting valuable and since it was a pretty jenky design to begin with, it’s liable to break with heavy use. That being said, the reissue Green Russian Muff has a different sound than an original V8 Black Russian Muff. It doesn’t sound as good to me, but it’s not so different that I wouldn’t use the Green Russian live in lieu of the Black Russian for the aforementioned reasons. One huge plus for the Green Russian is its pedalboard friendly size. The Black Russian is the size of an 80s metal lunchbox and took up an awkward sized chunk of the pedalboard. Now there’s more room for other unnecessary boxes (gulp)! One noteworthy ding for this pedal is how difficult it is to see the script on the top of the pedal. The words are printed right underneath the knobs, so if it’s kinda dark (which it usually is) and the lights are all in front of you (which they usually are) the words are impossible to see. Overall it’s a nice fuzz especially for the price. It’s noisy, but once the music gets rolling you won’t even notice it.Brad

Very helpful staff even while very busy with other customers. Was able to try both the Fender Downtown Express and the Fly Rig V2. Yes the Fly Rig was more expensive but it also had more features. Plus the Downton Express produced a nasty pop when switching the compression in/out and it didn’t have a tuner. Very happy with my Fly Rig purchase and the price match. Thanks!Poida B.
I've had the Liverpool character pedal for a long time. It sounds like a Vox. I've had both versions of the RK5 Fly Rig (still have and gig v2) and the dUg DP3X (gig this one, too). I hadn't heard about this until I got my latest issue of Guitar Player magazine in the mail and these guys are al over the outside back cover ad. I ordered it immediately through Sweetwater. It sounds great! I have the UAFX Ruby, a Quilter Superblock US (shoulda been the UK, I know) and a Mooer GE 300 Lite: all trying to solve the "silent stage" conundrum when I can't bring out my Top Hat or Dr Z or Fender TRRI. But this is the pedal I was waiting YEARS for: XLR and 1/4" outputs for FOH and monitor amp, respectively. Voxy Voxness that's Voxtastic for the convenient, silent stage live application. While the other products are fine in their own capacities (and, to be fair, the Ruby sounds slightly better though digitally noisy in live situations), I would've saved about a thousand bucks had I known this existed. But, um, no built-in tuner. That'll cost ya a star, particularly since the RK5 and the dUg have built-in tuners. (Really, Tech 21?) Totally a keeper!!
I bought this because I'm a huge fan of the RK5 Fly Rig, but I wanted something that was programmable and MIDI controllable, to integrate with my pedalboard. The PSA2 does all that perfectly but it's the sounds that have blown me away. It sounds incredible. Every Marshall tone is achievable and authentic, so are Fender and Mesa tones, and anything in between. And it really responds well to picking dynamics, and when you back off the volume on the guitar it cleans up perfectly. And…it just feels and sounds better than digital – my HX Stomp is now for effects only. I couldn't be happier, it's exactly what I needed. Thoroughly recommended!rossmacrae777

5. Isp Technologies – Decimator G-String Pedal Ii Noise Reduction
Product Details:
This pedal follows the signal directly from the guitar, allowing you to switch from clean to high gain sound without changing the threshold setting. its new design allows you to plug your pedal into an effects loop or after your high gain pedal or preamp. thanks to a mini-jack you can chain 2 decimator pedals (whether ii or ii g string) to obtain 2 noise reduction channels or for a stereo system. this connection allows each pedal to directly follow the instrument like the brand's rack versions. the decimator g string provides a fully independent decimator noise reduction channel that can be inserted into an effects loop in series or after a preamp section, the advantage being that the decimator's level meters will follow the signal. directly. with the g string pedal you can adjust the threshold of the reducer and whatever the noise level the decimator will follow it without any problem. thanks to its complete transparency, you won't have to worry about the threshold being too high or having to turn off the decimator when you go from a high gain guitar sound to a clear sound. it offers an input to connect a guitar directly and a buffer output that can be plugged directly into your amp, as well as a second processed audio output as well. you can connect other pedals between the output of the decimator and the input of your amp, this allows the g string to remove any unwanted noise you may have, even with overdrive pedals located before your amp.

Reviews:
I am a home use player and wanted to run this in the effects loop of my 40 watt tube amp to get my preamp crunch without blowing out my windows. I quickly noted that the response was smooth and just what i wanted except that as i neared the full heel position to get the volume i wanted, i was getting some very loud popping from my amp which i worried might blow a speaker. I read online that other Ernie Ball vp owners had noted that there were loose solder contacts on the pot. I took a look and sure enough, one of the solder lugs was loose on mine too. The wire was soldered just fine but the lug was loosely crimped to the little board on the pot. I took the pedal apart pulled the pot out, crimped the solder lug better put it back together (which was a real pain to get the string wrapped correctly and back on the spring). With the pedal back together, it worked great and gave me exactly what i wanted with no popping. This is a great product but could really benefit from some better quality control.Jack
This volume pedal has a great, even volume swell. The addition of gain controls makes the volume pedal even more useful, however. When I'm playing bass, I sometimes want to increase volume for certain passages, but without the sudden change in tone that comes from an overdrive or boost pedal. This does that (I use a few different class D amps). Additionally, this allows me to have greater flexibility with my volume without needing to fiddle with my amp or bass' volume knobs while playing. On guitar, this can act as a nice, subtle boost that can push gain-ier amps (I use an Orange) into some sweet saturation. Great pedal.Derek P

My comment is about the PileDriver circuit as I did mine as a DIY project. I used mine with my custom passive J-bass at a jam session, the bass rig is set up for a P-bass with Quarter Pounders (hot pickups compared to my J-bass pickups) … I adjusted the PileDriver to get my bass signal up the the level the amp was set up for then I could plug in and play and not even touch the amp. A friend has a USA Strat with Vintage noiseless (toneless) pickups, using the PileDriver he could switch from his hot P-90 Casino (straight in) to the Strat with the PileDriver without completely changing the entire amp's settings … we brought the treble down a number or two … that was the only amp adjustment. Recently I gave my DIY PileDriver to a friend who plays violin/fiddle, he has a Barcus-Berry bridge and with the PileDriver can plug straight into a mixer at a jam session and have decent tone because of the signal buffering (the output impedance works with a mixer a lot better than the piezo pickup).Rock_Mumbles
While I had fun listening to music out in the garage putting this together, I wouldn't use it to make music. There was a barely audible boost in volume when in use and it only occurred in the last 1/4 turn of the knob. Additionally, the foot switch made a loud pop through the cabs when engaged and disengaged. On the plus side, I have a nice pedal enclosure for future projects or to re-house some old plastic pedals.Plectrum72
This kit was super easy to put together, and sounds great with no noise. I personally would have preferred at least an option for an AC adapter, but the circuit was simple enough to modify it to fit my needs. The instructions were very straight forward and easy to follow, and the diagrams are clear and simple to understand. This is a great introduction to building pedals, and for the price, I might buy a couple more of these to use as the start of my own circuit designs. It's a clean boost, not a lot of features needed here. Since it's intended to be run on a battery, I assume there is no LED to conserve power, in addition to simplifying the circuit by not including it. I went ahead and wired it up for use with a power supply instead of a battery, and it works very well that way, but I have some experience with electronics so I can't speak to how simple that would be for true beginners. Everything seems to be of decent quality, especially for the price. I might experiment with a different potentiometer in the future, though. The included pot seems to only affect the level once you get up past half-way, but that might just be a matter of personal preference. It's a pedal for a price comperable to what I've seen people charging for just an enclosure this size. You can't beat it for an entry into the world of DIY effects pedals.BJRory
8. Electro Harmonix Tone Corset Analog Compressor Pedal
Product Details:
The tone corset, electro harmonix's new four-knob analog compressor, squeezes your guitar tone in all the right ways! mike matthews says, "the tone corset is the funkiest analog compressor i ever heard on guitar!" the 4-knob design provides excellent control and gives the user the ability to precisely shape their instrument’s dynamics. the sustain knob controls the amount of compression applied to the guitar signal. the attack know adjusts how quickly the compressor recovers. as attack is turned clockwise the pedal’s response is slower and more initial pick attack comes thru. the blend knob adjusts the mix of the dry and compressed signals. volume controls the overall output level. the pad switch pads down the input signal to prevent undesirable distortion if the tone coret is used with high output humbuckers, bass guitar, etc. true bypass for maximum signal path integrity.

Voltage | 9 V |
Number of Knobs | 4 |
Weight | 0.68 lb |
Power Source | Battery |
Reviews:
I did quite a bit of research before I decided on this pedal. I'm very familiar with Electro-Harmonix pedals and had no doubts about the build quality. One thing that sold me was the fact that it had a blend knob, which enables me to really fine tune the amount of compression. The price is not outrageous either! RecommendedEd
This is my first compressor pedal, and this one is a great choice. It has a blend knob which is awesome because you can control how much compressed signal gets mixed in with your True Tone. I have this always on, definitely keeps the bass strings from overpowering scales and just keeps things nicely balanced. Also helps tighten up flabby distortion. EHX is always great quality as well. Very satisfied.Bryan C
9. Zvex Woolly Mammoth Germanium Fuzz Vexter
Product Details:
It is highly uncompressed, very dynamic, warm and 'woolly. it has slightly less sustain and needs more from te output to match the silicon, but it's a throaty monster. the real beaut of this mammoth is the pinch knob. this pedal provides a lot more splatter with the pinch, it excels at that gated fuzz sound. it reminds me of the although it gets very splatty, you can still apply that thick woolly coat thing. epic. it sports 60 year old ge spam can transistors. rad. i prefer the silicon version, and i recently got a ff7 so i need to funds ! the pedal works flawlessly and it is in excellent condition. it comes with the og box, and it will be very well packed.
Specifications:

Reviews:
Killer sounding fuzz – incredibly dynamic – like scary! I never really understood what people meant when they would say, “I prefer less compressed distortion.” It isn’t till you compare something like this with a super compressed dirt box (e.g. Big ****, Tube Screamer, DS-1) that you truly understand how compression and distortion interact. This thing is loose and wild. I think next step is the silicon woolly mammoth! This one doesn’t go quite as heavy as I would like – but the harmonics are heavenly and raw – there is no way I can return it.John L.

Reviews:
I wanted a simple, easy to use octave pedal to add some new colours to my sounds, this is perfect for that ! The sound is a really nice quality, it tracks smoothly and works well with my other pedals so I can simply fill out the sound, create nice lush harmonies or push things into some weird and wonderful places that are quite unique.Neil
Does exactly what it claims to. The upper fifth and octave sounds a bit synth-like when played clean, but when fed through an overdrive definately delivers the desired effect of a crazy, beefy sound. However, if playing clean and accompanying a distorted guitar, the octave up helps to solidify harmony lines without the synth sound being too noticeable at all. When using the octave down (with boost) you can make sounds like a tractor being sick (in a good way), which is always fun!Reviewed by Andertons Music Co.

12. Electro-Harmonix Nano Deluxe Memory Man Analog Delay
Product Details:
The nano deluxe memory man analog delay/chorus/vibrato pedal by electro-harmonix is the compact follow-up to the classic deluxe memory man, which has served as a gold-standard analog delay for over 44 years. featuring the original's quality bucket-brigade-delay circuit, along with a host of new features for modern players, the nano deluxe memory man is both compact and powerful. dedicated rate and depth knobs provide the ability to dial in a number of modulation effects ranging from chorus and vibrato to epic tape-style delay, while the blend and level knobs let you find the perfect wet/dry mix and ideal volume balance between effect and bypass. the nano's small form factor is both rugged and convenient, allowing it to fit perfectly onto pedalboards, while the universal 9 vdc jack can be used with the included power supply or most pedalboard psus. even the original deluxe memory man true-bypass circuit has been improved with the option to toggle a tails switch that permits delay echoes already in the block to continue to ring out while keeping any new echoes out. reliable, flexible, and featuring a famously warm and lush delay tone, the nano deluxe memory man is a great effect pedal for experimenting with your own sound, or simply adding a three-in-one modulation pedal to your signal chain when space is at a premium.

Finally available again: The famous sound of the classic Memory Man Deluxe in a contemporary housing. I'm sure there will be debate about how closely it manages to mimick the original's sound, to my ears it sounds great. The only fault I find with it is, for a delay of that price range and in this day and age, not to include a tap tempo option or at least an external input for a tap switch or an expression pedal. If that would have implied a slightly larger unit, I'd have gladly chosen a standard mxr-sized housing instead of the ehx-nano size.

For the price and fun of saying you built it, this is a great pedal. Anyone with moderate soldering skills can hammer this build out in no time. All together took probably only an hour to put together and test. Pedal sounds great and acts as two pedals in one, first a really nice clean boost and second a great overdrive that goes from subtle to fuzz. Plays very well with my Carvin tube amp.Ben
I think this kit (my first attempt) is very well designed and has a great vintage feel to it. My only problem is me! I took my time, but it so far the red LED lights up when I switch it on but all it does is dead silence… is it possible to put in resisters backwards?? If so – I think that is what I messed up on. Any way- I WILL get this working! Then I'm buying a tube amp from these guys – cause these kits are certainly fun to build – and I think I can only get better!!teezzur

The first step in putting this unit together is to install the 1/4" connectors. right out of the gate, the holes milled for the 1/4" connectors are to close to the top of the box, and the connectors are not able to install and sit flush against the side of the box. the only fix is to oval out the holes, or maybe drill new holes. the only reason I gave 2 stars is that it still might sound good, and it's cheap. I'll revisit the review after i get it together.dickieziggen
I purchased this with the intention of modifying the original circuit. I used a 2n3904 and a nte123ap in a cascaded darlington configuration and I used a germanium diode with red led instead of the provided pair of silicon diodes. It functions as a dirty boost but when pushed, it has a raspy aggressive distortion with asymmetrical clipping that closely resembles early Led Zeppelin tones.Josh
Super easy to build and sounds great! It likes single coils and humbuckers! Throw this in front of an already driven amp and drive it some more…or put in front of a clean amp and get a nice rich overdrive. This pedal is on my pedal board now! Can't beat the price for a great pedal and a fun experience!Clint
