I bought this humbucker to replace a Seymour Duncan SH-5 Custom that was installed years ago on my Epiphone Korina Explorer (Korean, 90s model). I did this because the other mentioned is a pickup that scoops the mids; and I noticed that when playing in my band, I was constantly competing for the same sound frequencies as our bass player. So when I changed to this pickup (which does the opposite of scooping the mids, but instead boosts them) the guitar tone cuts through the mix muuuuch easier. This allowed me to even be able to reduce the volume of my guitar which was loud as hell before and hence sounded annoying even to me. In sum, this pickup is a warm, midrange sounding hot pickup that will allow you to actually be heard in the mix.
Sounds amazing. You've heard this pickup your entire life on countless tracks. The perfect hard rock, hot pickup. Mine measured 14.26 and I'm very happy with that. Similar in sound to the JB but slightly less midrange focus and a bit more treble. Very nice. The only issue and the reason it gets 4 starts for me is the crazy thin wiring which makes it extremely difficult to strip. Possibly 24 AWG or even thinner. Good luck with that as it will take multiple tries before you get a good clean strip. Still a great sounding pickup if you want the hard stuff!John

Gibson gear 490r modern classic humbucker neck w/ nickel cover the mid to late 1960s saw the emergence of a very different type of music coming from the clubs of england. it was an interpretation of the blues that hadn't been heard before, and it was much harder, more rocking, and definitely louder than anything else before it. as such, this new genre's players were demanding more powerful amplifiers with increased volume outputs to satisfy their sonic explorations. this led to a call for a more versatile pickup that could split coils through a push/pull knob, and prevent microphonic feedback from occurring when the volumes were turned up to maximum levels. gibson answered this call with the introduction of the revolutionary 490t and 490r pickups ("t" for treble, and "r" for rhythm), which has the traditional characteristics of the original "patent applied for" pickups, but with two key modifications. first, a four-conductor wiring scheme allows the 490s to be connected to any push/pull knob, which lets players split the coils and increase versatility. gibson also introduced wax potting, which does away with any air space, minimalizing microphonic feedback. the 490r is a humbucker with the tonal characteristics of an original paf, with a slight increase in upper mid-range response. the 490t bridge pickup is calibrated to match the 490r, with pole pieces aligned a little further apart to accommodate the spacing of the strings at the bridge, which is different than the spacing of the strings at the neck. chicago music exchange is an authorized online gibson gear dealer.

So, I decided to replace the pickups in my 2019 Tobacco 50’s Les Paul Standard. I really liked the pickups in the guitar.. but I noticed that the burstbucker in the bridge had way less output. I thought about moving the neck to the bridge, but I didn’t like the idea of having a weaker neck pickup. So, I did some research that led me to these. Also, I wanted to dabble with unpotted pickups. I’m very happy with these pickups. They have a snarl to them, and a real openess to them. BUT, to be completely honest, they’re not far from what the stock pickups sound like. I noticed the burstbuckers were potted, but very slightly. In the end it resolved my output issue, and they sound slightly better than the burstbuckers, I highly recommend these if you’re into PAF tones. They definitely have that articulation and grittiness the originals had. They are awesome!
