A dry fretboard can create all sorts of problems for your guitar. when the fretboard dries out, the wood shrinks, and the frets can become loose, causing fret rattle or even cracking in the fretboard. the easiest maintenance for your guitar is to give a light, even coating of lem-oil to the unfinished fretboard. leave it on about 30 minutes, then wipe off as much as you can. the oil will keep the wood hydrated even in harsh, winter-heat conditions. if your guitar also has a wood bridge, wiping it down every now and then with a little lem-oil is good preventative maintenance.

Lem-oil has certain uses, as do other oils. You would never clean your fret board with crude oil, would you? so for starters, Furniture lemon oils contain waxes and tons of other junk, WHICH WILL RUIN YOUR FRETBOARD. If you were smart, you would know more about woods, especially if it is on your guitar. Dr stringfellow's will work, however, just keep in mind that a little goes a very very long way and never ever use it on ebony or in excess on rosewood, as itll soak it up.Jeff
Before using lemon oil, I used boiled linseed oil. This works better and it is easier to work with. I don't like to see the bridge or fingerboard of a guitar look dry and faded. Lemon oil revitalizes the wood and keeps it from drying out (and possibly cracking). This is a petroleum based product. That means it's mineral oil with fragrance added. It works great if there's a bunch of gunk built up from constantly playing. It cleaned up the rosewood fretboard on my Strat and the ebony fretboard on my Les Paul just fine and it smells pretty good too. You only need to use it once or twice a year with only one or two coats to freshen up your fretboard, I still have the same bottle I bought 2 years ago. First coat to clean off the gunk, second coat to replace any oils that have dried out of the wood (you can leave the second coat on for up to 20 minutes before you polish with a soft cloth) DO NOT USE THIS ON MAPLE FRETBOARDS OR THE BODY OF YOUR GUITAR IT WILL MAKE IT OILY, NOT POLISHED! I have read several reviews after buying this fretboard conditioner. I will fully admit that I've only used it once so far. I had absolutely no trouble with it. It says it's white mineral oil and castor oil among other ingredients and it DOES have a slight lemon smell. I followed the directions exactly. Shake really well…when I shook it I shook it several dozens of times. Spray it on a cloth…which is exactly what I did. I sprayed 2 or 3 pumps on the cloth and did half of the fret board and then sprayed 2 or 3 more and did the other half. I then turned the cloth over to the dry side and buffed the rest of the oil off. Not all of it but it didn't have an oily appearance when I was done. The other comments sound like they sprayed it directly on the board and didn't shake it good… Worked fine for me lol.Devarim12

I ordered GHS' Gorgomyte cloth, the Nomad F-One fretboard oil, and some new strngs, GHS Burnished Roundwound Nickel Rockers Medium (11-50) for my Strat. Like others, I avoid lemon oil. First, I cleaned the fingerboard with some squares cut out from the Gorgomyte cloth (per the instructions). Then I applied the Nomad oil on the entire fretboard. I let it sit a few minutes and the rosewood fretboard soaked it right up. I applied a second coat, only this time I rubbed some on the back of the neck, too. Gave it a few minutes to soak in and wiped off the excess. Lubed the saddles and nut, and put on the new strings. What a difference! It feels so much faster and sounds great! I recommend this procedure every string change.Johne1
I used it on both my rose and ebony fretboards with great results. It slicks on easily with no mess and adds a luster to the look of the wooden surfaces. The price is right close considering you know exactly what is in it, unlike other mystery oils. I like to know what I'm putting on my expensive surfaces and this is good stuff. As a professional for thirty years, I have reasonable experience in cleaning fingerboard, although it's probably been ten years. I watched the demonstration video and got right to it, replicating the video. It's not a complicated process: dab on, soak for a few seconds, rub off. I was pretty disappointed the gunk did not come off anywhere near as well as in the video. I tried soaking, rubbing harder, different cloth, etc. Both instruments (high-end acoustics) had a buildup that I eventually had to carefully scrape off with a tool. Once I got almost all gunk scraped off, I used the fluid again and it cleaned the last bit. It did soak into and condition the ebony, however, so that's a plus. Overall: I bought this kit hoping it would give a long lasting high gloss polish. Very sad to say that in fact it will polish somewhat, it does not last . Within a few days my frets were back to the oxidized look and bends were no better than before I used it. Honestly you need to start with about a 1500 – 2000 grit and work up to at least a 8000 – 12,000 grit like a micro mesh paper. You need to actually put some very fine scratches in the fret and work up to the 12,000….. then polish with this stuff. Then it's a whole different feel and much more of a long lasting smooth shine. Very disappointed. I hope zZounds will start to carry the micro mesh pads In the near future.Ron
Figured I'd take a chance on this fret polish kit. Boy, is this a great an easy kit for anyone to use. First off I would recommend having another cloth to use with this as when you use the polish it may end up on the fretboard imo. The three different size fretboard guards work great for any guitar you may have and are sized right so you don't get a lot of that polish on the fretboard.You may need to wipe off the guard here and there from the polish tho. Working the polish in is very easy and within a couple of swipes back and forth you can notice a big difference as the shine Comes back to life and the dirt comes right off. Mind you I haven't polished my frets in I don't know how long but let's just say a long time (years). I've notice a difference in my strings lasting longer,bending is easier and smooth and just moving around chords on the fretboard feel much better. I've been playing for 15+ years but haven't done a ton of maintenance on my guitars myself. I usually have someone do any major adjustments beyond string changes and tightening and such. I got a used guitar recently and the fretboard was really gross but the setup was all nice, so I decided to grab some fret oil and do it myself. It was easy, and with a rag and a toothbrush, I got it all clean and it restored a beautiful rich darkness to the fingerboard that made me even more excited about my purchase of the guitar. I have a 20+year old Strat that has been through a war. It is relicd more than I would like. The rosewood was hazy, dirty, and just didnt feel right. Ive never really taken good care of this guitar but figured Id start with a fretboard cleaning. To say that this oil cleaned it is an understatement. Great product, comes with everything you need a larger fabric cloth which is huge. When I ordered this product id figure the cloth would be 6×6 inches but boy to my joy it was about 1ft by 1ft. This product does what it promised to do at a great price. The quality of this product is good. The product does what is said it would and did it very well. I bought a used guitar with a few dings and the coat was about to start fading. This brought back the shine in that guitar and honestly I was a little bit nervous to play because I didnt want to hurt it. This price for you guitar to look alot better. Thats a steal.
Does what it's suppose to and keeps the guitar looking clean and shiny. Simply spray and wipe. I've used a variety of other cleaners, scratch removers, and caranuba wax before and honestly it didn't do crap. I was so silly to think I could spend money on a magic bottle that'll restore the finish on my guitar just as new. Seriously don't believe into the hype of scratch removers. I've spent a lot of money on cleaners and finish restorers. Those products won't erase pick marks because your guitar's finish (assuming it's a decent guitar) isn't made of some cheap coating that can be "restored to new" by wiping some cream. I've been using Dunlop or Gibson polish for years but I saw this cleaner, read the reviews and bought some. The reviews are right. This stuff sprays on and you don't have to wipe and wipe and wipe to get it off. It has a pleasant smell and really does the job in half the time. I've found a new polish. The spray bottle stuff works great. The fretboard oil will amaze you with what it can do to bring that old dried out fretboard back to showroom condition (or even better condition). The polish ("wax" type of stuff) I don't really care for too much, but I honestly don't like using any "wax" type of stuff on guitars or anything else frankly. After being disappointed with the results of a few other polishes, cleaners and oils MusicNomad was recommended, and I was astonished at the results. While it was not able to remove some of the yellowing on my older nitro cellulose paint the polish was able to remove swirls and other light scratches that I had been used to seeing on my 24 year old Ibanez from Japan. I used the polish from the kit along with the wax sold separately and have found it much easier to keep the fingerprints and shmegma that accumulates off the guitars. The F-One oil is amazing and stays around for a long time without the greasy feeling. The spray wax is best for maintenance after playing. A light mist on the great microfiber cloth and any hints of the last session are wiped away. I used the polish on the finish, but I also used it on the frets, lightly and they were even more smooth than they were, and they had just been polished via 2 ways, with fret eraser and #0000 steel wool.
