2 disclaimers: I got this 5 days ago. I've had an Jackson RR tattoo for years. She's a looker… never thought I'd get a purple guitar but the purple quilt w/ gold hardware and white binding is gorgeous and I love how the reverse headstock has the color and quilting too. It plays fast as F. You'll wanna shred on it. It makes me wanna play Crazy Train, Holy Wars and the like but it may make you wanna play stuff that's way above my skill level and you can! Never had a Floyd Rose before but tuning it up wasn't too bad out the box (and it's super fun!); we'll see what happens when a string snaps. The frets and unlacquered back are smooth so it's easy to do fun slides and bendy things! The sustain is pretty good thanks to the mahogany body and the thru neck and it just feels solid. I've read this is heavy compared to other V's but it's the lightest of my 3 electrics and it feels quality and well balanced – there's no neck dive. I love that it comes installed with Dunlop button strap locks which I've had to purchase & install previously on my other 2 electrics. The pickups sound great with distortion and I haven't/am never going to play this w/o distortion so who cares about clean but I will say comparatively it doesn't sound as good as the EMG's on my EC-1000. There are some QC issues: There's fret buzz on the low E, some purple paint smudges on a small part of the white binding and the blending of the paint in some areas (which you generally never look at) could be better. I didn't have any of these issues on my (similarly priced) LTD EC-1000 and (my much cheaper) Ibanez AR-325 so these are pretty disappointing. Bottom line: I haven't put it down yet. It's fun to play and my other guitars currently feel unloved. If you like metal or you've always wanted a V this shape you should get it. I'm going 4/5 stars for the QC issues which are super disappointing but well reported on Indonesian Jacksons. Let's be honest – this purchase is mostly about speed and style. It sounds great and it delivers both of those in spades.Rishav

Paint job is just ok, but not great. It has a cheap quality to it, but looks good from a little distance. Matte is a hard paint job to be fair, and this is entry level, but still, this is a review. Pickup colors don't match at all. I bought black plastic pickup covers, which made it look a lot better fairly affordably. The plastics of the backplate, the humbucker rings, and the pick guard are super cheap and kinda bent, maybe from heat? Once again, entry level, but still, I've bought guitars at this price point without these kinds of issues. The Jackson version of Floyd Rose seems pretty ok considering. I've never had a Floyd rose that stayed in tune for very long, so this seems to be about right. The pickups sound very aggressive and bright, which was surprising. There is a loose wire that I had to tape down because of it hits the right spot, it cuts off the pickups (maybe a ground wire? Everything works still) The high string is a little too close to the edge of the edge of the neck for my liking, but I think that's just a personal preference. The body and neck seem solid, the neck is left unfinished, which I usually prefer, though this neck is like completely unfinished, so I'll probably need to get some sort of wood treatment for it. The fret inlays are great at this price point (not dots) and the frets don't have any burrs, which is a good thing for your fingers. The outline of the neck in white is also a classy touch, and the headstock is beautiful. Overall, it's an ok guitar. I would maybe get a different finish, and wouldn't expect it to be the greatest guitar ever, but it has a personality to it and is still a Randy Rhodes. Plays fairly well, definitely shredable. Accessing the 24th fret is a little bit of a reach, but that's ok. If I were Jackson (fender), I'd raise the price $20 and put decent plastics on it because it really does cheapen the guitar overall. I'll probably replace those parts myself over time, but I really shouldn't have to.Zachary

I own several cigar box guitars – some I built – some I bought – usually fretted four strings that I mando tune. I wanted a three string for slide – I liked that this had a disk with a slide technique lesson. I was more than pleased – as an instrument, it's as good as most any CBG – they are all pretty crude at best. This one was easy to assemble – holds tune – sounds good acoustic or electric. There were some comments on it not using an actual cigar box, but a factory-made stylized resonator box. While this is true, it is at least as good as a cigar box, and I can understand why they broke that way for consistency and ease of build (which as I said, was super easy). Aesthetically, most people would probably prefer a real cigar box, but come on – it's like a uke – cheesy is part of the shtick. The lesson is good – play along CD and a book – comes with a good glass slide. I recommend it – worth the list price – all the better with the discounts.JoeFromSD

This is a great way to learn slide guitar. It is small & easy to learn. The book is full of great info. The CD is great, with back tracks, A tuning track so you do not need to buy a tuner, as long as you have something to play the CD in. It would be a good idea to buy a cheep tuner. As far as the price you just can't beat it. You can buy one for any wear from under $20.00 to $59.95. you just have to look around for a good price. Even at $30.00 to $ 40.00 is well worth it. The sound of the guitar very good and a small amp helps the sound but is not a must. Also you can take this any ware. In all this is a great product and was well thought out. I wanted a three string cigar box guitar and between a black friday discount and backstage pass points, I couldn't pass this up. Some reviewers complain that it's cardboard but domestic cigar boxes are predominantly cardboard. Also, Fender recently built a cardboard Strat that couldn't be told from a "real" Strat in a blind test. Build time was about ten minutes. I ran the strings around the tuners contrary to the directions so the string paths were straight. Sounds great acoustic and also great amplified. The only thing lacking is markers on the side of the neck. Maybe not sturdy enough for roughneck kids but a good introduction to the cigar box genre. Nice slide included.Mike

My 5 year old son received this electric guitar for Christmas 2019 and still loves it. Of course we are selective when he uses it because it's an instrument and he gets a little loud. My niece that is older than my son tried his electric guitar during the summer and I just had to order another one because she loved it so much that she wants one for Christmas 2020. I appreciate that everything fits right in the bag (even the amp) so that nothing gets lost and it keeps organized. For the price it's a wonderful starter kit for your little musician. My Son Joseph took who is now 4 yrs old has always had a blast strumming his toy acoustic guitar and pretending his a Little Rock Star ever since he was 2. I bought this guitar because I wanted a new toy and because of the price – I figured I didn't have much to lose. I have three other guitars, two of them Jackson, that I play frequently, and I always wanted a guitar of this style. The natural finish is attractive and unusual. I like that. The pickups are ok, but the electronics leave a lot to be desired. The fingerboard craftsmanship is lacking attention, at least on the one I received. There are unfinished areas and one of the inlays is missing a small section. I don't know what strings they send over to China to put on this thing, but they are complete garbage. Putting some new strings on improved things a lot. This also suffers from some fret buzz. The guitar comes setup pretty well. The intonation seems to be spot on and the truss rod is adjusted properly. Action is set surprisingly well, considering the price of the guitar. However, as I mentioned above, this results in some fret buzz. I'll work with that a bit later. The neck has the same feel and playability as my higher-end Jacksons, so that's a plus. Overall, I don't think you could go wrong with this in the low price range. I'd recommend inspecting the guitar closely upon receipt to double check quality control. I wouldn't recommend this as a first guitar, unless an experienced guitarist is available to inspect. It's also not a guitar that's easy to sit and play, which is something to consider. If you get a good one and it's setup properly, this is an excellent guitar for ripping out some metal riffs or just having fun. Just don't take it too seriously.Matt

I received my guitar about three days ago, and overall I am very happy with my purchase. The guitar looks awesome – I love the wood finish with gold hardware, and have received many compliments on the instrument's overall appearance. It is incredibly light, weighing in at just about 7 pounds, making it the lightest guitar I have ever owned. I love the feel of Jackson necks, and this guitar is no exception. It has a fast action that makes speedy riffs a breeze to play. Access to the higher portion of the fret board is incredible, thanks to the V body shape. This is my first Flying V guitar, and I will definitely need to get used to handling the unique body shape as I play. Now for a couple cons that made me drop my rating from 5 to 4 stars: this guitar is top heavy. I have never owned a top-heavy guitar before, and it is super inconvenient to play standing up. You have to put in a constant effort to keep the guitar level as you play. I personally like to play with my guitar at a 45-degree upwards angle, which is much more difficult to do on this guitar then on any of my other well-balanced instruments. While the natural wood body looks awesome, it feels as if it would be easy to damage. But as long as you're careful you shouldn't run into any issues. I ordered this guitar online, and was not happy with the experience Guitar Center delivered. It said that the instrument was in stock and ready to ship, but after three days I still hadn't received a shipping confirmation in my email. I reached out to customer support and found out that the guitar was actually not in stock and I would have to wait three additional weeks before my guitar would ship. That was a bummer. All in all I would recommend this guitar, and am happy I added it to my collection!Darin

My fiance purchased this guitar for me as a early Christmas gift around october 2019. After the usual string change adjustments and tuning it sounded great and played great. Only real issue is neck dive but with this body shape you expect it and can be corrected by moving the strap button placement to the back plate or near by depending on your choice i left it and rest the top horn inside my leg like you see dimebag with his ml and many others with the v shape and non traditional shapes like the warriors king Vs and so on. I personally love the Rhoads shape and the natural finish. Other than some minor changes and upgrades knobs Tusq Nut Locking tuners and a Seymour Duncan bridge pickup upgrade and a good setup this guitar is my daily player out of the 6 i own its become my favorite im looking to buy another honestlychuck thomas

I bought this for my 5 year old after debating whether it would be worth it to go with a Jackson Minion instead. I ultimately decided that since he's so young I'd go with this disposable until/if he becomes "serious" about playing. For now, he's more interested in mimicking C.C. Deville, Jay Jay French, and trying to get "the keys to the Lamborghini." With this in mind, I found this guitar to be perfect. I must admit the first one I received had to be returned due to the B and high E strings laying on the first fret no matter the action or truss adjustment (the nut appeared installed too deep). The second one, while without the fret/string problem, simply doesn't feel as "solid" in all other aspects when compared to the first. We kept this second one, though, just because I cannot justify being too picky for a guitar in such a price range. That last point is really what one should take from any review on this guitar — or what one's expectations should be when they receive it. If one wants something with better hardware or quality, then you will spend three times as much. Granted, we're not talking thousands or even hundreds more, but this is what a decision to purchase this guitar is going to boil down to. With all of that said, should one have an issue with this guitar after receiving it, just know that the process for exchange couldn't be any easier. One other thing to point out — if you want to start doing your own guitar setup, this would be the perfect way to learn. Considering one will spend around fifty for a setup at the local shop, just buy one of these and learn to do it yourself. If you aren't willing to attempt setting it up yourself, then buy one of the name-brand short-scale guitars as it seems absurd to pay for a setup what one pays for this guitar in the first place.Where's my Aquanet?

This little Rogue is a really nice guitar. It's very well built – solid body & straight neck. It's simple, too – volume knob & a rockin' little humbucker. It's slightly smaller than normal, making it perfect for a kid or small-framed adult. It's even good for the full-sized player that travels/moves a lot & doesn't want too much guitar to have to pack around. This guitar is great for a beginner & for an accomplished player, too. I've also got the full-size RR100 guitar by Rogue, and they both play equally well. Both my RR50 and RR100 are the red/black color, and they're absolutely gorgeous. My advice to the beginner — Buy a Rogue acoustic or electric guitar for a great price, start learning to play, and as you get better & better, THEN you can go buy a $2,000 Gibson, Fender, Martin or Taylor. Mostly, though, HAVE FUN.jej-texas

I travel to Europe every month for business and wanted a practice guitar that would fit in my carry-on. I bought one of these and reshaped the headstock and positioned two of the tuners on the opposite side, and reshaped the body – cutting away everything not needed to play. With the neck unscrewed it fits perfectly in my carry-on luggage and often gets interesting comments from TSA screeners, but they've never had a problem with it. I could not have made a 100% full length guitar fit, but this 7/8th size is just right. The guitar needed set up work when it arrived, which I know how to do so it didn't cost me anything. The next was straight and the frets surprisingly level. The nut on my example was pretty close so relief, action and intonation were not terribly hard to set and are now about 98% of where they should be – a very serviceable practice travel guitar. The strings were junk so I replaced them with EBs (as I use on most of my other "real" guitars). I play it through an iRig into my iPhone and it sounds just fine. A better PUP would improve the sound, but the installed PUP is satisfactory for my purpose and most likely for any kid learning to play. The volume knob does get in the way of playing occasionally, as others have mentioned, but not so much and I have not bothered to change it out. Surprisingly, the tuners hold tune pretty well. Not as well as the Grovers on my Gib LP, but they hold pretty well over a week of playing in a hotel room. In the end, for a child that needs a reduced sized fret board or is more likely to just bang on the strings, or as in my case as a reworked travel practice guitar, this is a pretty good deal. However, if your child is likely to be a modestly serious student, or for an adult playing at home, I would buy a Squire Bullet or Affinity for a bit more.LarryC

I purchased this guitar when it was $95 off full price. So that kind of makes it a worthwhile purchase. Definitely not worth full price in my opinion. Poorly packed with insufficient padding in the box allowed two of the strings to be bent during shipping. I assume this happened during shipping. They wouldnt send bent strings right? Thankfully they provided back up strings… The nut is very poorly crafted. You can visibly see burrs and imperfections in the nut that cause the strings to ring out of tune on certain parts of the fret board even after tuning. The pick-up selector nob fell right off first time I adjusted it. I will have to glue it myself. When the notes do play out true the triple pick ups sound better than the Peavy beginner guitar I used to have– Which only had two pickups and came in a similar starter package but was about half the price as this guitar. I think if I research how to fix some of the issues I can make it playable. But this guitar is far from playable out of the box. Fairly poor quality control.Cody

I was looking forward to ordering this as my first guitar after taking some classes a couple years back. The shipping was remarkably fast–however, when the product arrived the amp was completely broken. Upon plugging the guitar into the amp and strumming, it would make a horrendous scratching, broken sound. Plucking strings has the exact same effect, and occasionally the amp will cut off after a second of playing. I've tried adjusting the dials, turning overdrive on and off, I even bought a new cord thinking that was the issue to no avail. To make matters worse I have called the customer support number multiple times asking if I could recieve a partial refund, or ship back the amp for a functioning replacement–every time I'm left on hold before the call disconnects, if I can even get through to begin with. The only reason this isn't a one star review is that the guitar itself works fine and looks beautiful! I wouldn't reccomend buying the full set if they don't bother to make sure one of the most essential parts is functioning before shipping however.James B.

I worked outside for my father for a good many weeks while the guitar was on sale, and when I got it, I had mixed emotions. After a few days, the gig bag started to rip and now theres a big hole in it. Its still usable, but it isnt really well made. Also the bag isnt really protective. Its more decorative. The strings on it and the other ones were both junk, my local guitar shop guy told me that himself, but strings are moderately priced, and most of the time they last a while, so thats not much of a deal. The amp is lower end, and the cable that plugs into the amp and the guitar started to show copper wire around 2 weeks after purchase. It still works, but it should have lasted longer. And the stand on the amp didnt hold up at all, the plastic on it broke and now it wont angle so the sound comes at your face. But other than that its a good purchase, i would just suggest to just buy the guitar alone, and buy the amp separately, instead of the kit, but that may get expensive, so check out those options and compare them to this product and decide for yourself. My local guitar shop guy told me that the guitar itself is great quality though, but there are more expensive guitars out there, its a great guitar to start out with. Another side note, not relating to the quality of the guitar, but for beginners, how to learn how to play it fast. I suggest buying Rocksmith 2014 with this for PC, Xbox 360, PS3, PS4, Xbox One and other game consoles. Although it is expensive, the cable that comes with it counts as $20 dollars of it, and it actually surprisingly works! I started playing the game in late june or early july this year and I learned pretty quickly, to the point where I am now thinking about combining lessons and the game together to speed up the learning process even faster. Now it wont turn you into Guns N Roses overnight, but its pretty effective.TheVanillaMiner

I picked up my Kelly a few years ago. It came with a Bengal tiger finish. Not only is the paint job totally killer, but this is everything a Jackson Kelly is cracked up to be. Killer neck, playability, thick sound, fast neck, no problems staying in tune, The neck is fast and comfortable. Yes it is expensive, yes you are going to have to wait, yes are going to have second thoughts plunking down all the money when you can buy guitars for much cheaper. After you unbox and play it, you will not have any regrets. Period.Jay

I own a quite a few guitars. This Jackson Kelly has quickly became my favorite to play. I really like the feel of maple fret boards. That has been hard to find in a Jackson Kelly. I was excited when I first seen this guitar. And it did not disappoint. It is the best playing guitar that I own, and it looks great as well. I would buy another if it was offered in a different color with the maple fret board.Matt

Overall: I received 2 of these from zZounds. The first one had chips in the paint in several places, the frets were trash. The fretboard on the sides had bad dings and scratches. I returned it. They sent me another one (that took 5 days to get to me after they lied about when it was shipped), when it arrived it was in much better shape. At least the paint was. Right out of the box the frets needed a $100 fret job. The trem claw screws were put in at such a bad angle it was pressing against the back plate. It would not stay in tune for anything. I replaced that one with an RGAIX6 Iron Label Ibanez. Right out of the box it was a superior guitar. I'll never buy another Sterling again.Anthony

Overall: I was at a big Guitar shop near the Center of town looking at strats. Found an excellent American strat from 2013 for $800 that i was all set to take home. I saw this sterling MAJ100 on a stand next to the amp i was using to test the strat and decided to play it on a whim…… WOW! Totally blown away. I've played other Ernie Ball electrics that were much more expensive and played like an expensive guitar. What surprised me about this MAJ100 is that it played WAYYY beyond it's price.The tone and volume nobs are fantastic. Totally impressed. They work effectively with no degradation to the sound at all. This guitar is comfortable. extremely light, well balanced, and the resonance is insane. Frankly when i picked it up it was so light it felt like a toy guitar. Like it's hollow or plastic or something. When i played it though, even unplugged, it clearly resonates like a serious instrument. Even with the amp in my face i felt each note clearly resonate through the guitar. Reminded me of an acoustic almost. Despite trying, and owning, many other guitars (gibsom, fender, prs, ibanez, as far as electrics go) this sterling sold me on it's merits. Not looks though. Initially i HATED the looks. They are growing on me but i think it's because of how stellar this guitar is in ALL other areas. The only thing i wish it had was a way to split the coils.Try this guitar.Sam

Had a Jackson SL2 back in 2009 and sold it….big mistake. This SL1 was bought as a used level 1 and it was truly in mint condition!!! WOW!!! I don't believe it was ever played. The humbucker and part of the neck were still covered with the orginal plastic protection. Can't believe I only paid a little more than half of what the original cost is right now. The tags showed the guitar was inspected in 2011, so I imagine it was built that year as well. I'm really amazed with the cost and the quality of this level 1 used equipment. Definitely I will not let this one go and will continue to purchase items from Music123. Thanks guys….great buy and great guitar!!!CR

I've owned a soloist SL1 for three years. Gorgeous guitar with flawless workmanship, most beautiful thing I've ever seen. Neck has a decent feel to it in your hand. Frets seem to wear quickly though. Terrible lack of sustain on the E and B strings up past the 15'th fret, too. I have to use a lot of finger wigglin to keep them going or the sound dies within a few seconds. I don't know if it's the Floyd acting as a damper at that frequency or what, but it's pretty bad to me. Other than that, it's a nice guitar, like I said. Strings last nearly forever, and that's with me working the bar fully down and up. Stays in tune too. Just that with the Floyd, string bending lowers the pitch of the other strings, and bending the G to match pitch with the B is messy, because you have to bend both the G and B, otherwise you're flat. Either that or raise the bar while you do the bend, but it's a hassle either way. So the Floyd is great, and not so great at the same time. I agree that the volume knob placement is not very good, it gets in the way when palm muting the higher strings, and I have to hook my pinky around the knob. That's why I give it average marks. If it weren't for the few negatives I listed here, it would be heaven, but these negatives are kind of a big deal to me, so that's why I give it an average grade when it comes to value. Narrower frets would be a plus when playing up high, too, because maybe it's the 24 frets or whatever, but the frets are very close together and difficult to place your fingers to get a crisp sound when you're burning it up.Jiminy Quick Fingers

2 weeks ago was my birthday. so my wife took me guitar shopping in dalian china. i went to the top 5 guitar shops in some special disrict for guitars. i tried 35 different guitars from 4 countries. there was alot to pick from. korea, japan, america and china. the 2nd guitar I played was a black no frills looking Jackson SL1… Nothing impressed me like the SL1 after many hours of trying guitars. my wife and best friend were with me and listened to each guitar. Everyone agreed on the Jackson. so, we got it. if you have a chance, try one. you may become convinced as i did that these guitars rock really well. i've done no customizing yet. we're talking a stock guitar… i've been playing gibsons and strats since i was 17… i am 49 now… stock strings are good also, but i plan to use some: ernie baall skinny top heavy bottoms soon.dalian gino

Received it with no foam or springs under the neck pickup, so the pickup pretty much rattled. Easy fix, but for over $3k? Bottom E string piezo didn't work. Real hard to set up with low (1mm on 12th fret) action, without buzz. Constantly goes out of tune, especially when using the trem. It sustained real well, and is beautiful, but it drove me crazy the first night I had it. Before you go on thinking I didn't set it up correctly, I worked for Leo Fender in the 80's, and have worked on guitars my whole life.Ernie K

The Music Man Majesty is gorgeous. It is also hands down the most comfortable and most fun guitar I have ever played! They are worth every bit of praise they get. And I will absolutely be buying the 7 string version. (And the rumored 8 string should it come to reality???) American Musical supply is also a huge help in this purchase. Words cant come close to describing this guitar. You have to play one to truly appreciate it. The action, tone, finish and overall quality of this guitar far exceeds anything Ive ever owned or played. Including my Gibson Les Paul Custom. I use my RR1 for all types of music, from metal to blues, and though the guitar does excel at the heavier tones, it creates sweet blues tones effortlessly. If you're on the fence about purchasing one of these incredible guitars, find one locally and spend some time playing it. I assure you, all your doubts will be forgotten as soon as you plug in.Don Brozz

I was never the type of player who gravitated towards "metal" guitars, with all of their funny, pointy shapes, and super hot pickups. Les Pauls were good enough for me. I was wrong. After doing a lot of research online, and playing a cheaper model at a local store, I decided to spring for the real deal, the RR1 (in snow white) and I think it's just about the best guitar I've ever played, and I've owned and played A LOT. I'm not a speed player. I want to be, don't get me wrong, but speed isn't my thing. I can do some Gilmour and some Jimmy Page and even Johnny Marr, but Randy Rhoads: I'm not…but this guitar certainly helps. I've never played a guitar that has singlehandedly improved my playing without me having to change my technique at all. This guitar was designed by people who know guitars and what players want. The notes just glide right off the finger tips without much effort. I have .09s on mine, with my action set as low as can be, and I can bust out "Blackened" and "Ride The Lightning" with no problem. Sure the body shape is a little bit awkward and unintuitive, but it's honestly a comfortable guitar (I have the V over top of my right leg and it's very comfortable…more so than a Gibson V). I believe these are jumbo frets and the neck is a compound radius. It feels a little bit different than the el cheapo Jacksons, and in a good way. The sound on this guitar is really just as impressive as the amazing fit and feel. The TB4 is as hot and as punchy as you'd expect. Whatever gain I want to throw its way, it's glad to handle. I was worried that I would have to use EMGs to get my sound, but these Duncans do the trick. The SH2 is another pleasant surprise, as well. Despite being a "jazz" pickup, it's another gain-loving monster. Cleaned up, the SH2 is the star of the show. The beautiful, balanced mellow tones are killer. With gain, you can even get a Guns N Roses tone pretty well out of the neck pickup. The clarity on both of these pickups is outstanding. When playing a song like Megadeth's "Holy Wars…" with fast picking, the individual notes come out much, much better than in my Gibson with the hot ceramic pickups. I think I'm going to keep this totally stock and use my money to put the EMGs in my Gibson instead. The only knock on this guitar isn't really about the guitar itself, but the Floyd Rose system. I gravitate towards "difficult" guitars. I love Jazzmasters and Gretsches, but I've never owned a legit Floyd Rose. Getting this set up was a chore, but after a new set of strings and a lot of little tweaks and adjustments, I think it would hold tune after the apocalypse. I'm digging the Floyd Rose, I just wish that it weren't so finicky and touchy. So, maybe it's not a knock, per se, but if this is your first guitar with a Floyd Rose, don't be discouraged if it takes a while to get the hang of the set up. I'm a believer in Jackson Guitars and I might even spring for a Soloist when it's time to look at guitars again. The USA models are top notch and are great for metal, but can definitely handle alternative and classic rock just as well.IronMorrissey

This guitar is great for Metal, Jazz and cleans or really any style. The guitar is on par with guitars that are twice the price. It plays and feels great. The neck is very smooth and comfortable. I play this through a Positive Grid Spark 40 and is sounds great.Mike

A great book if you want the words and chords for all the old standard songs that rocked in the 1950s when Elvis was King. The book makes guitar playing fun. Not cheap but worth it.clever_daddy
