1. D'angelico Electrozinc Jazz 12-52 Light Electric Guitar Strings
Product Details:
Electrozinc jazz 12's are ideal for the electric jazz guitarist. with a .52 for a low-e and a wound g-string, jazz players can count on strong bass while comping and a thick lead sound. co-designed and engineered by d'addario, electrozinc marks the return of the partnership between these two legendary brands. the story of the string begins more than 75 years ago. in 1938, john d'angelico was already a living legend known for his signature archtop guitars, while john d'addario was a young kid trying to expand the family string business. their chance meeting would result in the invention of the world's first modern round wound electric guitar string, the zinc-coated bethanized steel. its sound was unrivaled in fullness, volume, and brightness. its tone would be featured on some of the greatest records of all time. but the closing of the bethlehem steel plant in the ‘60s put an abrupt end to its production, leaving its sound unmatched for over half a century. until now. today, d'angelico and d'addario have re-forged their storied partnership. combining modern innovation with john d'addario's original designs, d'angelico's electrozinc string is the truest tribute to bethanized steel since the original. and d'addario's exp technology coats every string to maintain its classic tone even longer. electrozinc will be available in six gauge variations, suiting players from all traditions—from hard rock to swinging jazz.

These strings are versatile. Drop to C and hit them hard, they take a beating and stay in tune. Sonically, they sound think but clear and add some bark to your sound. The wound third just sounds right and evens out chord work very nicely to my ears. Highly recommended if you want to thicken up a thinner sounding guitar!Radsmith

6. Thomastik Bb114 Medium Jazz Bebop Guitar Strings
Product Details:
Probably the only round wound guitar string that can truly be called a jazz string. a similarity to the jazz swing in materials and string architecture, but with a small gauge round wound nickel winding, produces a strong, fundamental rich jazzy tone that is somewhat brighter than a flatwound. this remarkable string is an excellent alternate choice or the player wanting real jazz tone, but with a bit more of an “edge”.

Reviews:
You can feel the quality of Thomastik strings when you open up the package. Very consistent strings. These rounds seem to have a somewhat smaller outer round-wound wrap than other rounds, which can feel a little less smooth to me, but isn't a big deal. The tension, like most of Thomastik strings, is incredibly well balanced string to string. The tone is very even and actually better balanced than traditional string sets, in my opinion. The sound more gradually changes in timbre from low to high, more like a well maintained piano. I think it's odd at first, but if you listen to traditional sets, you will hear a thickness in sound from E to G and a sudden change in tension and tone on the B and E. It can be nice for rhythm guitar but those two factors are undesirable when playing lines and arpeggios, if you ask me. The sound is vibrant and smooth with good depth. Thomastik strings have a richness to the texture that I don't seem to get with other strings. It's easy to see why so many love these strings. I personally like to take the 13/17 strings from the 13-53 set of Bebops and use them for top strings in this set. The 55 is plenty big on the bottom for traditional thick jazz tones, and the 40 A, 32 D and 22 G are nicely matched in tone and tension for a more technique-friendly experience. My main gripe about traditional big string sets is playing from string to string and having to increase down-pressure in the middle of runs for example. Thomastik strings don't have this problem and it's a wonderful thing to experience.Aaron
I can't believe the quality and color of the stringsorly_0
Great clarity, tone (jazz guitar standard!) and playability. Doesn't matter what kind of pick I use and I do not have to spend any time messing with the amp's tone controls! The tone is truly built in to these strings!Pricey but long-lasting and I have not found a roundwound that I like as much.CV4024

I put these on a modified Jaguar-styled guitar with P-90's. These TI's were a higher gauge than I normally use (.09's in round-wound), so adjustments to the whammy were necessary, no problem. Slightly quieter than round-wounds (so I raised the neck pickup a bit). These strings have a great tone, crank the reverb and go surfin'. Plus they are easy on the fingers when you are moving around on the neck..Deter
I've been playing guitar for over 20 years. On my solid bodies I use D'Addario nickel wound 10s. I even use them for my Semi-hollow bodies. I've never really liked flatwound strings so I just put some 11s on those.. I acquired a couple of spruce top guitars and put D'Addario flatwounds on them. I liked the feel but the sound wasn't quite what I wanted. I read that George Benson used his own set of Thomastiks. I thought they were a little expensive so I was hesitant. Curiosity finally got the best of me so I bought a set of flatwound 11s. Put them on my Epiphone Broadway. They felt and sounded so great I ordered another set and put them on an Eastman AR810-CE. These strings caused both guitars to project so much more acoustically that I can not play the Eastman at night while others are sleeping unless I use my thumb!! When amplified they both sound fantastic!! It's like they came alive!! I have to try them on the ES-175!!Eddy2late
I have been playing guitars for over 40 yrs. These are the best strings I have ever used both on my hollow bodies and solid body guitars. I would recommend that if you are a novice or a professional musician invest your money in a good set of Thomastik-Infeld guitar strings, the sound you will received is so sweet and mellow when you want it but crank up that amp and you will be pleasantly surprised to hear that heavy metal sound. Try all of Thomastik-Infeld strings and see which ones are for you. I love the sound and their is nothing that can beat flat wound strings for speed and feel, your fingers will differently thank you.Claude

Reviews:
Mark Neill recommended these. I have been using Boomers for 30+ years and like them much. I put a set on a les paul and was pretty stunned that they sustained well and had a much more pleasing mid range and the highs were only down a little. Loved the balance. And no sqweekin with high gain!! So i put a set on a tele and started hearing some of the classic big fat tele tones. Those were all lighter sets. Since i liked them so much i decided to try them on a dobro. BOOM. Love the thick mids and no string noise when sliding. The half rounds are now my do to on all my instrumentsTheabis debris
I've been using these strings for years… no one seems to know about them. I showed the salesperson at the cash register – tore the package open and he was amazed what "half-round" meant. These are the most flexible (style of playing and tone) and durable strings on the market! I can play Jazz, Country, Blues and Rock with them and sound top-notch. They don't have the "zip" sound of round-wounds, and are more lively than flat-wounds. They don't ever seem to corrode! Get 'em!FRANK
I bought some of these just because I was getting irritated by string squeak. Didn't fancy full flat wound. These strings are really great to play. They feel fantastic under the fingers and still have a great tone. I also love the wound g string as it has tweaked the intonation, making it much more accurate on the lower frets, in fact, all strings are more in tune on the lower frets (thicker strings I think). I used to use 10-48s on my telecaster style guitar but these 12-52s give a much better sound. If you're heavy on the bends then they will take a bit of adjustment and hardening of your fingertips! For the price I'm hoping they will last me well but so far… love em!Stefan

Reviews:
A good sounding set. But if you are putting this set on a short scale Rickenbacker 325, be aware. I was bending an end of the high E string 0.13 to create an acute angle to hook onto the tremolo bar.The end ball popped out of the string loop. It was difficult to put it back together. I think it's a design flaw. The high E string had a too much slack around the ball end. I would give it a few more turns on high E ball end before I start making a sharp hook again.hkat2310

I must admit to some scepticism sio I only ordered one set, but have since orderd more. These play very well on my Gibson J45. I like the lighter gauge bass strings which give me a good clear tone without straining to fret the string. The relatively heavier treble gauges produce plenty of volume so the sound is more balanced than normal 10 gauge sets.barefootbutch
I bought these to curtail the low frequency boomy sound of a Martin guitar, but found them to be a poor choice as I got them out of the package. They felt porous and slightly unfinished as I was putting them on. After playing a few minutes it became obvious to me that they would tear up my frets and fretboard if I left them on. Save your money and your friend board, and buy something else.Worship Team Trader
Overall a good value in playability combined with pricing. As with all D'Addario string sets they come all in one pack and have color coded end balls to tell them apart quickly. I prefer single paper pack PER string, but this is how they save money in packaging. So, not very convenient but saves money for them and us. Really nice set of strings. Good tone and nice feel to the fingers. I will probably use them on all my acoustic guitars except those I play bottleneck on. These flatpick well and fingerpick nicely, very easy on the flesh of both hands. They have only been on for a week so I don't know about durability and how long the tone will sound like new. There is another brand that the Gypsy guitarists use. I haven't tried them and they do cost a little more than the D'Addario. After I get a set of the other brand I will let you know.

Reviews:
I mean, overall, you probably already know what strings you like and don't like if you play at all, but I will say that these strings initially do have a brighter tone than many others. The one knock I have on these is, if you are a chugger, the strings will almost definitely unwind from the base after a while. That said, they definitely hold a nice one until they break. I have yet to have one take on that muted or tinny tonality, so that is a good thing. Overall, these are pretty versatile, but the more aggressive you are as a guitarist on the strings, the more likely you are to have to replace these more frequently than some of the other brands out there.Peter
These strings are perfect, sound great on my guitar and make very little noise when sliding from fret to fret. They are also low wear and tear on the fingers and would be ideal strings for new players as they work up your finger calluses. Sustain seems fine and they are now my favorite strings for electric guitar (do they make a version for acoustics?) I like playing guitars, but my practice time is always cut short by pain in my fingers – when I first played flats on my bass, it transformed my practices – I can play for an hour plus without discomfort. Same goes for the guitar. Allows me to play/practice longer, and that is worth the extra $$.Axiom71

Reviews:
I've used Thomastik Flats on several guitars and basses (in appropriate gauges for different ones) for decades now. They are expensive, but also last a very long time with reasonable care so still deserve 'value-for-money' rating. Superb feel when playing, and to my ears and taste (bit of a jazzer) very good sound too. Once bridge saddles appropriately adjusted (they seem to need less end-correction than others) intonation is great. Highly recommended.JHS, C. i. S.
In 20 years of playing, I've broken plenty of strings right out of the package. The other reviewer must not change his strings much. I discovered flat wound strings several years ago, and I will never go back. Thomasik flat wounds are infinitely more comfortable on the fingers than standard strings. The first time I played them, I got a perfect vintage 60s sound that I had been trying to get out of other strings for a lifetime. Use them on a Strat and my SG. Highly recommend this brand of flat wound strings. You the man, Thomasik Infeld.Jeff
I tried these last year to see if they were worth the extra price. They are!!! I have had three sets now and I am about to order another for a new Jazz guitar I just got. One set went to my Son who plays a vintage ES-175. The feel, sound and the durability are better than anything else I have tried. And they say their special material at the top of the strings helps them stay in tune longer. They are the only flats I will be buying in the future and I recommend them.wscott336

18. Stringjoy Foxwoods Light Gauge (12-54) Coated Phosphor Bronze Acoustic Guitar Strings
Product Details:
Looking for a set of acoustic strings that have just the right amount of tension, the right amount of tone, and still have enough volume to annoy your neighbors? then you need a set of our light foxwoods. these are going to work great for most guitarists, since they provide excellent low-end and midrange volume while still being easy on those calluses. foxwoods are the perfect coated phosphor bronze strings for players that love the bright, lively tone of uncoated strings, but want the extra snap and longevity of coated strings. pairing an enamel-coated wrap wire with a tinned hexagonal core, foxwoods typically provide 2-3x longer life and peak brightness compared to our uncoated strings.

I am quite happy with the Stringjoy Acoustic Strings and I'm still deciding which ones are my favorite. I recently put on the Foxwood and am now needing to record an "original guitar only song" with it on a direct track and a high end microphone track. Then I will do the same with the Naturals and also the Brights. At least I can then do a comparison but my suspicion is the I might prefer different strings for various purposes. Such being the case, I am not currently positioned to supply anyone with a FAVE RAVE!!!David F
Love these strings. I’ve had them on my Ibanez AC240 for just a couple weeks but I’m blown away! They started unremarkable (in the best sense of course) but have opened up to a nice, full, vibrant sound. They don’t feel coated, but they don’t feel fully natural either which I love. Best of both worlds! I’ve been using your string cleaner with them as well and I’m convinced these will last a good long while before needed a swap out. Going to put these on a couple other guitars as well! Thanks guys! You rocked the park with these!Garrett G
I bought both coated and uncoated versions of the Stringjoy acoustic strings in regular medium light. I now have these on 3 different guitars and plan on installing on 2 more. Have to say I don’t know how you do it but the tension on these strings seems different than anything else I’ve ever used. They just seem “comfortable†and sound fantastic. They’re pricey but worth it. Only con I can think of is they’re a bit noisy when sliding but I’m sure I’ll get used to that.David M

D'addario EJ26 Phosphor Bronze guitar strings are very good. I have played this strings for years. D'addario is a very trusted brand among guitar players. They are always consistent great sound and playability. They are comfortable on the fingers and they last a good while. The longevity of strings all depends on how much and how often you play. Phosphor Bronze have a warm smooth tone. If you are looking for great sounding strings look no farther than D'addario EJ26 Phosphor Bronze strings.Travis
I have used various D'Addario strings since the early 80s. I was 'aware' of them in the 70s but I typically used Fender strings on electrics and Martin on acoustics. I have always maintained that D'Addario strings are cheap, plentiful, and get the job done. The argument could be made that there are better strings out there ("boutique" strings) but D'Addarios are available in any music store and they are consistently good. I think I only had one or two sets where the unwound strings were nasty…. they looked 'kinked' and didn't sound right. One or two sets out of how many hundreds of sets?? As to these particular strings, I have a 1947 Gibson L-5 and it just feels more 'right' with caveman strings. I'm not one of those 30s rhythm players that go runka chunka all day long, I play it like any other guitar, and it begs for heavy strings. D'Addario has them available….not everyone does, ya know. I'm happy with the company's products, across the board.ksdaddy
I bought these for a Little Martin, which was recommended to me as the best way to introduce Nashville tuning to my repertoire, as the smaller scale takes better to high-string tunings. Nashville tuning is sort of a studio trick most often used as a doubling of a standard guitar in order to achieve a 12-string or natural chorusing effect with less playing effort, more mixing possibilities, and no worries about having to down-tune to D to avoid neck or bridge issues due to the tension of most 12-strings (other than Guild models). There aren't many choices for pre-configured Nashville sets (many people put theirs together from individual strings), but this set seems the best balanced of what's available, and is especially designed to work well on short-scale guitars like the Little Martin series. I just wish they also made this in an 80/20 formulation, as I am starting to prefer how that metal combination blends with other instruments in the mix vs. the more modern phosphor bronze formulation. But one could always use 80/20 on the main guitar and get an even richer sound when blended with this phosphor bronze set.
