Ibanez Talman Prestige Electric Guitar For Sale (2024 Update)

This guitar rises above the 'super Strat' identifier. The playability of this instrument is incredible, especially if you are used to the neck profile of these guitars. All the standard pre-requesite Strat tones are here, instantly available for you via the 5 way switch. However, flip the dyna-MIX9 switch, and you have Tele style neck/bridge combo, the option of a neck humbucker (neck & middle PUs in series), 2 humbuckers, and bridge single coil (which I have used more than any guitar I have owned other than a Tele). The playability of this guitar is off the charts! Roasted maple neck & locking tuners keep it in tune for gigs beyond what I have seen in guitars before. I had one of the first series AZ back in 2019, a Premium model, which was very good although there were some things I didn't like that much or were not my cup of tea. The veneer was not to my liking, the pickups although good was a bit hot to my taste and liking, and no idea if it's the basswood body or the constructions difference, but when playing unplugged it didn't resonate as much, although plugged in was totally fine (but I tend to play unplugged as well so I look for guitars I enjoy playing unplugged too) Then I decided to go to a traditional strat and later on I went for a Suhr Guitar. Suhr is fantastic in every way. I sold my Suhrs because I was looking for a more vintage style strat but then decided wanted again a kind of superstrat HSS more modern sounding to replace a PRS I'm selling that it's great but a bit too much for me, and want a more player guitar. I was thinking on the Suhr, but then I saw the 2021 Ibanez AZ with rosewood and tortoise pickguard, covered humbucker, and less hotter pickups and wow, this guitar was perfect for what I was looking. Looks very classy, I got the blue one, single-coils sound great, very good clarity (not vintage style like my other strat, but I like that because they complement very well and serve 2 different purposes), the humbucker is great for rock, hard rock and like 80's rock (I'm not into extreme metal so not looking for that sound). And unplugged this Prestige resonates well, different than the premium I had, so unplugged sounds alive, and like these pickups much more than the Hyperion (but that's my personal preference) Neck is a bit thinner than the Suhr I had, but for a more modern approach is very nice and comfortable. I have no issues going from my 50's neck les paul back to the Ibanez AZ. And quality is there. Pros vs the Suhr, is that it has roasted maple that I really like, and the 9 switch sound options, that for me having the neck and middle parallel is like having a neck humbucker which is really awesome, what a versatile guitar. And of course the price! Pros on the Suhr is that those really are on the top of their game in quality and pickups I liked the Suhr ones a bit more. And the neck on the Suhr is fantastic. This doesn't mean the Ibanez is bad, on the contrary, I'm very very pleased and happy with the Ibanez, is more than enough for me, and even though the Suhr is amazing and overall I give them the edge over the Ibanez AZ, the AZ is top quality guitar too as well and I don't have the need to go for a Suhr with this AZ.Nico

The AZ24027 is fantastically made. It looks and sounds gorgeous. I am surprised how easy it is to play on it. The sound is very even in all registers. I have it only for a few weeks and I can't stop playing… It is good for any music. I like soft music and/or metal and this guitar will take you there.Piotr

Ibanez Prestige. You get what you paid for when it comes down to the precision of this instrument line. The fret work and overall construction of the instrument prove to be at the finest quality. The locking tuners and the nut working in tandem with the thick RG body calls for rich sustain and amazing playability. The one issue one might find with this instrument would be the Dimarzio Fusion Edge pickups. They're great pickups with medium output, great for any sort of sound and can really go in any direction with the right settings. They just dont have any apparent sound qualities compaired to some other after market pickups. If youre looking for a solid guitar with a simply stunning look, this instrument will take you to the place you want to be.George

An absolutely beautiful instrument, this is my second SA360 and although they are no longer. Made in Japan, be assured they have not lost any of the build quality or attention to detail. Overall: I am a big fan of the RG guitar series by Ibanez, and I've wanted to dive into 8 string playing for the metal and tapping options. I must say the trickiest thing about this guitar is just finding out how to make tones (probably the same for most 8-strings). You really just have to cut out the bass a bit. Aside from the learning curve of tone-making, the playability and the coil tap are amazing features on this. The neck is quick, like most RG's, and the finish is more interesting than a normal, matte black. This thing is one of my favorite guitars to play!Eduardo

After really enjoying playing an RG standard at GC, I decided I wanted a Japanese Ibanez. This guitar is gorgeous. You open up the case and it's a plush red velvet contrasting perfectly with the sexy nebula green burst. It is incredibly easy to play! Has a perfect balance slung over your shoulder or resting on your thigh. They didn't cut any corners with this instrument. Pros: – Black chrome hardware looks slick – Neck very thin and flat. Not just for shredding! Strips of walnut add a touch of elegance. Satin finish makes this a fast neck. Jumbo frets feel great. The birdseye fretboard is gorgeous. Locking tuners are robust. Stays in tune like a boss! – Very clear difference in pickup output from neck to bridge. Bridge gets nice and dirty when the volume is up – Pickups are a bit hotter than I expected, especially the tone zone in the bridge, but dialing down volume cleans them up very nicely (when you want them to be clean). I'm guessing the hot pickups are for shredders, who are a target Ibanez consumer. The parallel mode is a sweet addition allowing pickup to sound like a single rather than a humbucker – Pickups have dimarzio embossed on them, but it's subtle and not visible from a distance- branding isn't as obnoxious as on seymour duncans – Volume and tone knobs are knurled making them easy to turn with just a touch and resistance is light and smooth. Great gradual effect (doesn't just jump from 100% to 10% when you turn the knob only a tiny bit) – Action can be set super low and bridge is very comfortable to rest your palm. No sharp saddles as on some tune-o-matics – Amazing custom-molded guitar case that looks sexy and has a hard plastic outer shell. Overall: I got this guitar last year and still love it as much as when I got it. It plays so smoothly and sounds great on every amp I own. Bogner 3534, EVH 5153 50-watt Standard and Stealth, Marshall JVM410HJS, Hughes and Kettner TriAmp Mk 2, Ceriatone AH-100 Deluxe, Blackheart Little Giant and Hotone Captain Sunset (SLO) I can't say the same for many other guitars I own.The quality of the workmanship is off the page. The components are top notch and it's beautiful to look at. The neck is the smoothest I own. The Tone Zone sounds great clean but really shines in overdrive. The trem is similar to a Floyd Rose. It stays in tune extremely well.I can't say enough about the quality. Made in Japan is as good as made in America these days. Even the case is 5 stars! Well worth the $$!Chris

Sound: The Hyperion pickups do a great job overall and offer up a nice array of different sounds for just about every style of music. When in HH mode it goes from blues to rock and beyond with no problem. When the DynaMix switch is engaged the guitar takes on a completely different characteristic from jangly to warm and has some great tonal options for clean and crunch. I like the versatility of this guitar. It takes a bit of time to get used to all the options and you’ll have to tweak your EQ here and there to avoid them sounding thin or shrill, but I think you'll be able to find quite a few useful tones with this guitar. Features: The Gotoh tuners are sturdy and stable. The ratio is great and they really smooth with no issues at all holding tune. I had never used them before and I had to YouTube how to unlock them lol, but they work great. I prefer locking tuners with the knob on the back, but that's just personal preference. The Gotoh bridge feels spectacular. The titanium saddles are so smooth, no more rubbing your palm raw over rough saddles or screws. I don't use a trem much these days but it does a good job staying in tune even with some dive bombs and flutters. The roasted maple neck is beautiful and has a great smooth feel on the back. The cutaway and contours are very comfortable and the recessed input jack is a thoughtful highlight. And yes, most wireless transmitters will fit. I could not get my Line 6 G10 transmitter to fit in the AZ Premium I had. The Prestige is not as deeply recessed and the transmitter fits just fine. This is my first go around with stainless steel frets but I do like the feel of them and they look good too. Ease of Use: It’s a fairly straightforward guitar to use and maintain. Nothing overly complicated here. Changing strings on a 2 point trem is a breeze compared to Floyd Rose or Edge terms and with the locking tuners you can get through the task in just a few minutes. All the back panels open easily for access to trem springs, input jack, and electronics. The exposed truss rod socket makes adjusting the neck a snap. The included multi-tool is really all you will ever need for quick changes. Quality: This is where everyone will say they have high end made in America PRS, or Custom Shop whatevers and this is just as good or better. They will say that for a good reason because it’s the truth. Fit and finish are spectacular. No gaps or wiggles to be found. Fret work and fingerboard are simply top notch. It feels like it’s been your guitar for years. Electronics are smooth and there is an overall premium feel to this instrument. The hype is real…. FujiGen makes great guitars. Value: Value is a subjective measure. This is an expensive guitar for sure but when compared to similar “modern player” guitars out there the 2402 sits right in the middle price-wise. I feel it’s well within reason for what you get and it’s a good value for your money. I’d rather get a painted body with stainless steel frets than a bookmatched top and standard frets. Manufacturer Support: Haven't needed it The Wow Factor: In my humble opinion the wow factor is somewhat unseen. The story behind the AZ series is quite novel in that Ibanez reached out and met with some of the best and brightest guitarists around today. Over a period of 2 or 3 years and through several prototypes they compiled all of those suggestions into this amazing series of instruments. If all the artists involved really feel that this is their ultimate guitar then that’s pretty wow in my book. Overall: OK first let’s talk about the 800 pound gorilla in the room. That neck!!!! If you have done any research on the AZ series you already know it’s not a Wizard neck, but you may be surprised at how big it is. When I first grabbed it I was thinking I was going to return it, but after playing on it for a few days it felt like home. Like a lot of things about this guitar, the neck is a paradox. It shouldn’t feel this comfortable to someone who prefers Charvel and Jacksons, but it does. It doesn’t feel like a shred neck, but you can play that way remarkably well on it. It has its own unique shape like nothing I’ve played before. If I had to compare it to something I’d say somewhat resembles a Fender American Elite neck but more of a U shape with bigger shoulders. I can say that I don’t notice a huge change when going back and forth with my other guitars. It’s easy to transition between them without a lot of readjustment time to ‘get the feel’. I’ve seen a lot of forum posts asking about how the AZ Prestige stacks up to other instruments. Here’s my opinion. I own a Charvel Pro Mod DK24 HSS with the roasted neck and I really like that guitar a lot. The 2402 is a little lighter and sleeker and has a higher quality feel. I think the Hyperions as humbuckers are more versatile than the Full Shred. The 2402 neck is thicker and feels a little wider vs the DK which is more like a very thin Strat neck. So I want to write a very honest review of this, it is EXPENSIVE, but it is insanely good. However it has its shortcomings that require one thing, TIME to iron out. When i first got it, I was overwhelmed with it, it was excellent and very daunting, but each time I would bend, touch the trem or play something which requires some high fretting I noticed that the tuning would just go, immediately, after 1 week of a love hate relationship with this thing (so ready to return it) it is starting to behave, its so hard to get it to come out of tune now, I did nothing but just really really play it hard, with lots of trem abuse.. and now it doesnt budge out of tune. So my advice is give it a but of time, I was extremely disappointed when my $1000 player strat was better at tuning stability than this 3k ibanez :/ , but now, its no competition, the ibanez wins. Things to note – you cant rip the whammy bar up and carry it like an S series ibanez It kind of lacks an identity… All of my other guitars have shortcomings, and strengths, but in those weaknesses and strengths lies an identity, this guitar doesnt really have one of those because it can do EVERYTHING. It can almost nail the twangy sound of a strat perfectly, and it definitely can hand the heavy high gain sounds my V/les paul can put out with ease, extremely versatile for every genre. Fit and finish, perfect, such a pleasure to look at. Plays like a dream, neck is incredible pickups are crazy, however I will say this.. ITS A SMALL GUITAR, the neck is huge, but this thing is SMALLER than a strat.Anthony C.

Overall: I was looking for one guitar that would cover a lot of tones and styles, and this fits the bill. It's rare to find a guitar that has more than one characteristic sound, and this one has several. Jazz? Neck pickup/dynamix off/ roll off some tone. Rockabilly? Bridge pickup/dynamix on. Funky, glassy Strat? Use the #2 or #4 position. At full output, the pickups roar nicely.First impression: from the factory, the neck feels a bit sticky at first, but it smooths out quickly with some wiping down with a synthetic cloth. The bridge saddles were set too high for my preference, but the included multi tool made height adjustments quick and easy. The vibrato arm was scraping against what sounds a like a spring to hold it place; I dipped the tip of the arm in oil, reinserted and tightened the collar, and no more noise issue.I've never heard a guitar with this much sustain, and that didn't need an electronic sustainer. The neck shape and frets are precise beyond anything I've seen. Typical Japanese precision ha ha.After a few tweaks to get it to your preferred set up, it's a real champ. And it's not 'irreplaceable' like a high end Suhr or PRS, so you can gig without paranoia for the safety of the instrument.J

Full disclosure, I dont own a lot of electric guitars. I have a Fender Squire I got in the late 90's and a BC Rich Warlock Bronze I purchased in 2000 and now I own this beast of a machine! This is by far the best guitar I have ever played personally. I have played several high end guitars in the past, such as Les Paul's and such but this guitar…it just feels right. The neck is something special to hold. It is just buttery smooth. Your hand just glides all over this thing. Hitting pinch harmonics are so easy. I feel like I can almost get them anywhere and on any string. Same goes with natural harmonics. I feel like I am finding secret places on that guitar everyday. The Lo-Pro Edge Tremolo System is fantastic as well. This is my first floating bridge guitar I have, and have played for that matter, but it just screams! The strings also stay in tune pretty good. I may have to adjust the fine tuners ever so slightly after a good long session of hitting reverse dive bombs and flutters. The DiMarzio pick ups sound great too. I am running it through a Boss Katana 100 MKII and it just sounds incredible on it. The coil tap is pretty cool too but for my playstyle I prefer keeping them in humbucker mode. The finish on this guitar is so cool! I didnt like it in the pictures but then I saw someone playing it online and thought, that actually looks kinda cool. When I got the guitar in and opened the case, my jaw hit the floor. It looks SO awesome in person. Even better then I thought it would be. I brought it into my local Guitar Center to have the guitar tech take a look at it and several customers in the store instantly were drawn too it and wanted to look at it. It truly is remarkable to look at. The way the light changes the color on the Cosmic Shadow finish. It seriously goes from black to reflective silver depending on how it hits the guitar. It's like it is alive. My only small disappointment, but easily fixable if setup, is the low E buzzes a little.Justin B.

After months of searching for my next guitar I finally settled on the Ibanez Prestige AZ series. As a lifelong strat player, my goal was to find a guitar that married modern features with classic American Strat-like qualities. The obvious choice might be the modern Suhr series, but the pricing on those was too high for me to even entertain exploring. The Ibanez Prestige AZ2402 is the perfect rendition of the featuree I was looking for and after 3 weeks of playing, I could not be happier with this purchase. I was able to secure the guitar for a few hundred less than new, as it was labelled as "minor blemish" on the AMS site. I immediately jumped on it and am ecstatic that I did so. To this day 3 weeks later, I cannot tell what the "blemish" could be. This thing looks, feels, plays and sounds like a brand new guitar. Out of the box the guitar was set up and only just slightly flat of tune. To meet my preference, some minor adjustments were made to the neck and bridge, but the 20 minutes or so that it took to slap some fresh strings on and make the measurements was well worth it. I have even had to do this on product that was brand new before, so I could not even attribute this to the "minor blemish" label. Th pickups are amazing. The coil switch mechanisms are great for added versatility, but the standard humbuckers are excellent and the guitar should still be considered even if you do not plan to use the switching system. The neck is super creamy and clear as a bell, while the bridge is just hot enough for metal and crystal clear enough to jangle some clean chords. The bridge is very solid with comfortable saddles and screams top quality. Tuning stability has not been any sort of issue, even with the use of the bar. I am not an extreme whammy bar user, but I did do some tests on deep dives and the guitar tuning needed no adjustment afterwards. In fact, since I changed the strings and did the setup on the second day, the guitar has not gone out of tune at all. I will highlight that the neck is way thicker than what I was anticipating, but in a few hours I was right at home with the feel. I have played many wizard necks and it simply was not what I was looking for, being accustomed to chunkier modern strat necks. The AZ neck is big, chunkier than the strat but I am now in love with it and this guitar has become my go to #1. Definitely recommend even at the full new price. So many professional guitar players choose this Ibanez Prestige AZ2402 and when you get your hands on one you know exactly why. Where to start?!? First off the Japanese craftsmanship on these guitars a second to none! Perfect execution in every way! Neck, body, frets, tremolo everything just fits together in joyful harmony to make for an awesome axe that practically plays itself. Stainless steel frets will last a life-time and pickups offer a wide array of tone arsenal. If you need just one axe in your collection i would recommend this for sure. Overall: The guitar feels great! Only issue is that every hole on the guitar has paint issues, neck bolt holes, jack input, the cavity around the bridge etc.. . The bolts holding the neck look like they are starting to corrode as well. And those holes had marker around them? Side dots were sloppy. Very bad quality control. The neck is nice but it’s not worth the money in the condition it is in. I felt as tho it was an open box or blemished item as well. Everything looked tampered with and it was tuned to drop d. So this would be the second time I’m returning an item because it’s quality. I Still love Ibanez I feel zZounds is to blame more so than Ibanez? I've always been a sucker for a good RG and have several that I love. This kept coming back around for consideration. I have had this guitar now for almost a year and it rose to the top. There's just something about it. The neck is not flat, doesn't feel "fast" at first grip, but somehow it's just magical and feels great. There's nothing I can't play on it now that I can play on others. I love the trem / tuning stability without having to deal with the locking nuts, drop D is a breeze in a flash. The trem doesn't have the full range of the Edge trems but still has plenty of give. I came back to review this tonight because I just realized the ultra lite trem UTA20 from the JS models fits it and was kind of excited about it. The Hyperion pickups are something else. Man this thing just sounds SO good. Bright grumbly tubey rock chords, takes gain just fine for harder stuff. Offers 9 different tone positions all of which can't lose. This is the swiss army knife of guitars and does it all. Don't compare this to Fender, it is clearly taking on Suhr and the like. You're not going to find a better guitar at this price point.M. R.
