Look, just wanted to reply to some reviews that say this guitar sounds well…..thin. Duh, yes its not a jumbo acoustic or even a regular body acoustic. Its a thinline acoustic so it sounds just like what it is. Ive played several thinline guitars and they all sound…well…thin. That doesnt mean its cheaply made or a bad sounding guitar. It has its own sound. If you want a deep bass, then buy a jumbo or regular acoustic. I like the easy neck movement. The chords sound fine and this guitar doesnt require anymore tuning than any other in this price range. I tried ten guitars at guitar center including more expensive brands like fender, mitchell, yamaha and others and this was the only one under 400 dollars that stayed in tune from an E chord to a C chord. I bought it because Ive owned Ibanez before and never regretted it. To each his own but keep in mind a thinline guitar is not going to have a deep rich sound, but, I record my bass along with it so it sounds fine. I had been playing a very old and very nice acoustic at church for night service, and didn't want to subject it to the rigors of live playing on a regular basis. After some research, it came down to purchasing a Talman or a Stratacoustic. I went with the Talman due to the price, and Ibanez's reputation. When the guitar arrived, I was a little apprehensive as the neck felt awesome, but the setup was awful. The strings were heavy gauge, and were set way too high. After some work shaving down the bridge, changing to light strings, and adjusting the truss rod, this baby plays great! I love that the electronics are really easy to use, and it was made to plug in. The sound when you are practicing unplugged isn't as full or rich as you get with a full sized acoustic, but this guitar wasn't made for that – it was made to be plugged in. I was able to eliminate having to use pedals to get the proper volume and EQ, which makes the live rig way easier to set up and tear down. I play it through a Line 6 spider II 75 watt head running through a Marshall 4×12 cabinet. The spider's clean channel is great for acoustic as it does not color the tone, and the Marshall is plenty loud for a church sanctuary. Overall, I am quite happy with the Talman, even though I had to put in some extra work to get it the way I like my guitars. It is a steal at the price if you have the skills and are willing to play with the setup.Stratbuilder

There are hundreds of reviews on this guitar, of course some good and some bad. The good reviews (4-5 stars) far out number the rest. Although I’ve read some really, really bad ones. I suppose every guitar maker churns out a turd on occasion when mass producing affordable beginner (read inexpensive) guitars.
I can only tell you about my particular guitar.
It is fantastic, it’s beautiful, sounds amazing (plugged in and acoustic), plays amazingly well, stays in tune, the tuners are smooth and work as you would expect on a much more expensive guitar. The neck is perfect, the action is great (Martin MA540 Authentic Acoustic Light strings 0.054-0.012). I haven’t a single complaint I can’t say whether the quality has gone up or down in the last few years. Mine is an earlier production model about 10 years old. They’re relatively common , You can find a nice used one locally in most cities for under $150. That way you can play and give it a thorough inspection before you buy it. Check your local Guitar Center, try it, return it if you don’t like it, my bet is you will love it.Larry Daniels

I usually don't leave negative reviews. This guitar is beautiful, it sounds amazing. However, I just can't believe that guitar center would let this be shipped. The neck seems fine but every fret divider is razor sharp. It's so uncomfortable that I have quit playing it. Living in a small town it's very expensive to return stuff, so I guess it will just sit for now. To guitar centers credit, I have shopped there for many years and never been disappointed. But gee guys, why wouldn't you be checking this stuff? If I picked it off your wall I would never buy it unless you fixed it for me. Sorry but this sucksJohn

Tried out two of these at the local store looking for a first guitar for my son. Both sounded pretty good for the price point, but both had problems with the neck and really terrible frets. Terrible like not safe for children or unsuspecting adults – they both had sharp edges sticking out the whole length of the neck. Between that, some minor string buzz, a crazy high 9th fret on one, and iffy intonation on the other, it just didn't seem worth getting either of them. What's the point of getting a low priced guitar if you have to spend $100+ getting it worked over to make it playable? I suspect that the neck binding makes it difficult for the factory to really get the frets properly dressed and still pass cosmetic inspection. It may be I just had the bad luck to find the two worst examples of this model in the same store, but I suggest you move up notch in price range and you will be happier with what you get.triple.ratrider

I purchased this guitar last year after seeing it in the "Open Box" listings. The photos were not clear but it was freight damaged in several places on the top and sides. BIG cracks. MF sold it me at cost. My guitar tech repaired the cracks which took a couple of weeks but didn't charge much for the repairs. When I finally played it after it was set up it was AMAZING. Even at the regular price point it's a steal. Blows Martins right off the stage. If buying it, like any other instrument, it needs to be professionally set up for it to play right and sound good. My tech found no other issues other than the freight damage. He agrees with me that it's an amazing instrument. If need be I would buy another without any hesitation.Sid

I live in Pennsylvania quite near to a famous well established major acoustic guitar manufacturer. Most of my friends own guitars of that brand. But when they play my Artwood guitars they look at their CFMs with a jaundiced eye. Compared to their "auditorium" size X models my grand concert size Artwoods are equal to and in most cases superior to theirs. Both have solid sitka spruce tops chrome tuners and Fishman electronics. Mine have rosewood fretboards and bridges; theirs are made out of black plasticized paper materials called richlite and coriian. Mine have bone nuts and saddles and theirs have plastic ones. Mine have laminated mahogany WOOD back and sides; theirs have some kind of synthetic laminate material (Formica perhaps?). Mine have black and ivory perfling with mock tortoise shell bindings; theirs are unbound. Theirs were made in Mexico, where making quality stringed instruments is a 500 year long tradition; mine were made in China where quality stringed instruments have been made continuously for over three thousand years. Their guitars play well and sound good. Mine play and sound even better and cost hundreds less. QUESTION: Why pay extra Benjamins just for a name?Cat

The neck feels good in the hand and the matte finish makes it easy to slide the fretting on the neck. The craftsmanship is very good. My only complaint is that one side of the back on my guitar is noticeably darker than the other (which is why I deducted one star). The finish looks and feels almost like smoothly sanded raw wood. Don't buy this guitar if you are wanting something flashy. Overall, I think it is a good value.Dennis

I was just moseying around the Cherry Hill, NJ store and I came across the Ibanez AC340OPN. I was amazed that it sounded better than some Martin's. This guitar Booms. I came back the next day and the sales personnel – who are excellent – fully accommodated me with a trade-in. I took this baby home, and man O man – I had an AC240 several years ago, but this model beats it by a mile. I love the 1.75" nut. I love the warmth of the sound. The scale is shorter than an OM – making it way more playable – it's so easy to play it's almost a joke. I would definitely recommend this to beginners, novices, and professionals.Dave M

This is a great guitar for $300. The tone and string clarity is amazing. Its a beautiful guitar with the open pore exposed mahogany. The tuners are not the greatest, but that is not the important thing. It sounds and plays awesome that is what matters. The tuners do hold a tune, but there are some "flat" spots in them. They do work a little better now that they are slightly broke in, but I think I will be changing those out. I will say its a keeper for sure. Prefect quality guitar from Ibanez as usual.Troy

Been playing for a long time and have owned many guitars. I was insearch for an all mahogany guitar. I was close to buying a Fender Paramount 000 which is all solid hog and more expensive but as I was trying guitars at GC, I played the Ac240 and was blown away by how much better it sounded and played at over half the price! It doesn't matter to me that only the top is solid wood because in the end, it is all about the playability and sound. A large part of its mojo is the all satin finish instead of the glossy thick poly that is applied to the majority of acoustics. It deadens the sound as the top doesn't vibrate as much. I also tried the parlor version of this guitar ( Avn5opn) as well as the cheaper all laminate satin finish line and was impressed by them all. This ones a keeper for me!Dq

I really was hoping to love this guitar; I play Ibanez semi and HB electrics..as for their acoustics, very meh..Yes you can love this guitar for 1. nice looks 2. very lightweight 3. loud for its size and responsive. So, with such responsiveness its therefore a shame that this guitar exhibits nearly zero low mids or low end,which makes it sound "cheap". Yes its loud, almost as loud as a Taylor 114, but even the Taylor has some low end. Yes i know its a mahog top, but even the smaller mahog GS Mini or Taylor Jr mahog give you a a wider freq response.Go Pats

The guitar I received did not look like the one pictured. It had a beige binding around the body and on the side of the neck. Okay but different. It also had sharp fret ends that needed to be filed.gnev

Im very pleased with my purchase. Ive been playing for years, ive played hundreds of guitars but this one is the one. It has tone, it stays in tune, the intonation is great, my hand slides nice on it, great harmonics, the fret board is straight , not twisted or bowed in anyway. The cords are crisp. Great looking, well built, excellent sounding guitar! The workmanship is high-end and the loud sound is what you would expect from an acoustic guitar without a cut-out. I found no imperfection in the stain, shape, or assembly. Everything has been well done. Just an observation, the nut and saddle sat a little high, so some adjustments had to be made. However, adjusting the saddle is typical for a new guitar since each player has personal preference for string height. Even if the guitar is in tune, it may not sound right if the saddle and nut are too high. The sound changes significantly if the strings have to press down too far down to the frets. Sanding the saddle and filing the nut to the right measurements has made this guitar something to keep for many years.Benneth01

Love it. This thing feels really nice out of the box though it would definitely benefit from a good setup. The size makes it really comfortable to play at home on the lounge and holy balls that bevel on the lower bout should be mandatory on all acoustics because it makes it soooo much more comfortable. The smaller neck obviously puts the strings closer together which I imagine would make it more difficult to play if you have larger hands but I have small hands and find it isn't small enough to make it difficult at all. Sounds like a guitar that is a lot more expensive than it is and has a surprising amount of bottom end and volume for its size. I really just have nothing negative to say except I wish it came with a pickup because I would have no qualms with gigging with this little monster, but that's asking a lot for the price.plsbuymystuff

SATISFIED BUYER has had this only three days now and after one eaay to do truss rod tightening, I got the action nice and low, I AM VERY HAPPY WITH IT!!! I usually sit and play solo electric guitar at gigs using a Godin 3 voice XTSA. But it is too valuable to take to open mics and got damaged once at an open mic. I have toyed around bought and sold about 5 low cost acoustics I found around here, but they all caused thumb joint pain and hand fatique. But the access to the 12 through 18 fret was alnost impossible. I play up the neck often, and this Ibanez Talman finally allows me to focus on the "playing" and not on muscle fatique or joint pain. The neck, sound and features are really outstanding considering the price. The neck is "suberb" for a $200 budget guitar. Although it has a small and thin body, and the volume is "less" than a teaching or jumbo I LIKE IT. It is easy to position comfortably while sitting or standing. Even the 15th fret and above is easy to access, it plays wonderfully.buzzura

This guitar arrived set up right out of the box. No truss adjustments necessary. String action at the second and twelfth frets spot on. The instrument is a perfect fit for me. The size is slightly smaller than a full size guitars but definitely not a toy. Great for travel with a thin neck which makes play ability a dream. Plug it in to an amplifier and the magic happens. Overall: Normally I don't write reviews unless I stumble upon something exceptional, and this guitar is no doubt something else. I've been doing research over the past year to find my dream acoustic guitar, something that I'll cherish for a lifetime. I'll start off by sharing that I'm not an Ibanez guy per se, although I am a big fan of their craftsmanship for their electric guitars, I've mostly played HSS Stratocaster's before settling down to my Studio Les Paul. Up until now the only acoustics I've had were beater guitars, with the exception of a Luna Acoustic which was a gift I could never quite take to because of the small neck profile and scale. A few months ago I was lucky to run into an Ibanez AW54 Artwood (non electric, no cutaway) at a local guitar shop and was blown away by the sound and tone, it had the same richness and warmth as a mahogany Martin and Taylor (both cost over a grand) but with way better action and feel. At that moment I was sold. I needed to get the AW54CE.This morning I was pumped to find the guitar arrived after 2 days, free shipping. Even though the temp outside was 40 degrees (big concern), the guitar was well-packaged and insulated. Taking it out of the box I felt like a kid on Christmas. The pictures you'll find floating around the internet don't do this thing justice. Not one flaw or blemish anywhere to be found. And the one thing that shocked me the most, the neck and bridge needed absolutely zero adjustment. The action was flawless! There was already a battery inside, so after an hour of letting it acclimate, I just tuned it up and was absolutely floored by the tone. Holy crap. I still can't believe I can rip on this thing like my Les Paul, with no action set up whatsoever! I'm now sold on Ibanez products. The craftsmanship between the setup, the bridge, the special pins, tuning heads, attention to detail with the neck, I could go on forever. But I'll leave you with this. If you're in the market to drop a couple hundred on an acoustic, and you want QUALITY that will hopefully last you a lifetime, look no further. This is the guitar you've been dreaming of.Christopher

Having played bass for 28 years I never thought I'd actually enjoy playing an acoustic guitar. I grabbed this as a barley used guitar for my daughters to learn on. Even if they don't follow through and get tired of it, I'll keep it for myself. The wood and finish are what caught my eye, as the mahogany and ovangkol match my 1206E nicely. But I was blown away when I realized how good it sounded both unplugged and amplified. Aside from a minor cosmetic issue (glue in center of book matched top seam) it was WELL worth the price they were giving away this used acoustic. It still had the pickguard wrap on it! I can't wait to reveal it to the girls for Christmas. A beautiful sounding piece of eye candy. As long as I don't ever need the two-year protection plan, I think this might be the second best guitar investment I've ever made.Matthew

Guitar looked fine when I received it. Bought it on sale a little over a year ago and the guitar has developed a haze or blush under the finish that cannot be "buffed out" and looks horrendous. Everyone has told me it is from putting on the finish while the wood still contained moisture. The guitar has a 2-year "repair" warranty but I have to pay to ship both ways and there's no guarantee they'll even do anything. When they receive it they'll decide if its a manufacturing defect or not, which it clearly is. Then, If "they" decide it is, they couldn't tell me exactly what they would do. Is MF going to repaint and refinish the whole guitar, or try to buff it out anyway leaving it in worse condition than when I sent it? Or do absolutely nothing after I pay 40 for shipping both ways? I honestly don't care what their policy is, this is unacceptable, They sold me a defective product and it should be replaced at their expense. I have 2 Electric Ibanez guitars, but I'll never spend another penny at Musicians Friend or on Ibanez.MetalTeK

I twice received this guitar in sub-standard condition. The first one had two scratches and one polishing mishap, all of which were under the final gloss coat (so they couldn't be fixed). I called to request a replacement, was assured that problems like this were unusual, and that they'd send me a replacement right away. When I received it, it was worse than the first. There was a very visible semi-circle indentation about two inches below the sound hole, almost as if they went to stamp the sound hole there and then repositioned the machine. Because I had a gig that weekend and needed a guitar I had to keep one of the blemished versions (I kept the first one), and Musicians Friend did refund me a little money, but it was still quite disappointing. That being said, the guitar itself has a beautiful tone and plays with ease. The onboard tuner is convenient and accurate and I have no complaints about the overall performance.B&B

Overall: I purchased this guitar in February and it arrived unplayable. I was unable to review for this reason. Due to living in a remote location and being disabled it was to dificult to exchange, however, zZounds was very prompt at trying to help me return it. Unfortunately my caregiver had to throw away all the packaging. So my fault I couldn't return. I have purchased many ibanez guitars and this was the first time I had a problem. However, it's pretty obvious ibanez knew about this when sending the guitar to zZounds. So a little disappointed. So I'm unable to try this guitar, however, zZounds was very prompt and the customer service was great. I just can't return it and that's my fault. Looked good online but like someone else said it's like a toy I should have listened. I was told since I didn't like it I would have to pay return shipping and ups quoted me eighty five so I called guitar center and they said I could return it there. I hate to be negative but….Here we go. I love the electronics (SST Technology) on some of the Ibanez brand Acoustic Guitars because it eliminates the need for an EQ and delivers a fuller, fatter sound than most acoustic guitars. That being said, I have to be able to play it first and foremost. Upon receiving the well packed and shipped guitar, I took it out of the box and fretted a Gadd9 and noticed a disastrous buzz on the high E at the 3rd Fret. Figured it just needs a set up and took it to my guitar guy who told me after adjusting the truss rod with no fix that the fret would probably have to be filed. This is a brand new guitar, the frets shouldn't need to be filed out of the box. American Musical was very helpful w/ trying to expedite me one last minute for Monday on a Friday afternoon (since I have to play on Monday) but we'll see what happens. This is the 2nd Ibanez Guitar in 3 months that I went through this with. I'm slowly getting turned off.JR Huffsmith

I got this as my first real guitar. It's an amazing guitar, the sound is really nice, more of a soft tone for finger picking. Plugged in it sounds pretty nice, I like the options with the fishman preamp. The tuner works pretty well. Now for complaints, it came in a brown color, which I didn't mind, the tuner for the G string is suuuuuupppper hard to turn, either it's too tight to turn, or way too loose, when I first got it it had an awful buzz, but when I got it in tune and played it some it sounded fine. I am very happy with this purchase! It was sold as a factory second because of a minor flaw with the finish. To actually see the "flaw" you need to angle it just right in the light. It is NOT seen without close inspection. The pictures are not of good quality (they look splotchy). It is nice and easy to play as the strings are close to the neck (as I have seen with other Ibanz guitars). It sounded very good and I got compliments when I played it for a worship service. I had priced this exact model at musiciansfriend and it was $100 more expensive (with free shipping). So this is a very nice sounding, good looking guitar for a good price! This guitar is actually solid. After getting it setup with a bone saddle and bone nut, it sings. The frets were perfect polished and the intonation was spot on. The neck did require less relief, but who cares. That's a simple job. Amazing playability, and once you swap that plastic crap out for bone, I don't know you'd be able to find an acoustic this cheap that plays like this one does.Don

Being a guitarist since 12 I've always had a hard time playing acoustic. Since I've always played electric guitar. Low and behold the Alt30 came into my life! And this guitar has changed everything!
