The ONLY reason I gave this pedal 4 out of 5 stars, is that the TRS cable is hardwired to the unit. This causes at least two issues; if the cable goes bad, I have to either replace the unit, or hack it for a TRS jack. Second, it comes with a six-foot cable. I only need about 2 feet of cable from my pedalboard. So, I have to wrap up the excess and tuck it somewhere out of the way. I like to keep my pedals and cables neat, so this doesn't help. Other than that, the pedal works great. The sensitivity knob on the side is smooth and feels like it will hold up well. The pedal itself is surprisingly solid and travels smoothly. For $20, you really can't go wrong with this.seasidemessiah
I currently use this as my 2nd expression pedal with the Headrush. Before that I used 2 of them with the Boss GT-1000. Things I love: nice feel, low profile, lightweight, looks nice, on the smaller side so good for pedalboard (or in my case, cramming next to the huge Headrush). Personally, I would prefer it didn't have the long-ish attached cable because I'd like to use my own shorter patch cable, but it's a minor issue and I could alter it if I really cared that much. Don't let the super low price fool you, it's a legit alternative to bulkier, heavier, and pricier options, coming from someone who has owned Ernie Ball, Dunlop, Moog, and Line 6 pedals for this same purpose.Matt F
I had my eye on the Boss Reverb RV-6 for a lot of reasons and I felt excited about the expression jack. Obviously I didn't wanna pay full price for the "official" Roland expression pedal because… priorities! I was skeptical about quality but I ordered this knowing sweetwater has my back for 2 years. Flash Forward to me plugging everything in and strumming that first big reverberated chord. Ah yes, glorious. Just had to flip the polarity switch and we were in business. The control knob let me dial in the amount of reverb I want when the heel is down or "off". For example, you can have the heel down and still dial in alot of reverb.The knob works like a horizontal scroll bar on a computer/website if that makes sense. The sweep from heel to toe isn't amazing or huge but it's nothing to complain about. Behringer prices for utility pedals is what we love.

I would rate this product really high for all of its features but it I have two real complaints. The biggest drawback is the difficult programming. I am using this unit to control a lighting console that requires 'note on' midi signals. If you are using it for a guitar rig that uses 'program changes' it will probably work for you without so much hassle. I am a very tech savy guy and this thing came close to being sent back. It comes with NO instruction manual. You must download it off the internet. That being said, the manual was clear as mud. After several days of agony (I'd think I had it figured out, but it wouldn't work) I finally found the answer on a forum on the internet. Yes…you have to hit the Note button TWICE!! Once to illuminate, the second time to flash..then 'Enter'. Now it works for me. If only the manual had thoroughly explained this! Many people seem to give up and program it with thier computer (with a midi set up of course). The second complaint I have is the FCB1010's enormous size. This thing is massive. When playing guitar I am not a pedal user and I am not use to having anything on the floor except a tiny channel switch. Having to drag this thing around to run the lights doesn't thrill me…but until I can afford a lighting guy, this will have to do. One of the few footswitches that will do all three types of midi signals. Lots of features enabling it to handle simple to very complex rigs. Haven't had it long but it seems to be built pretty robust (as much as can be with todays products being made with so much plastic). The body is metal, the pedals are plastic. The unit is very large and heavy for a footswitch. There are only two pedals I can find that will send midi note signals. This unit costs half of what the other did so I guess it makes it an OK value. Getting through the programming is the hardest part.
I'm surprised there aren't more boards like this, but thankfully it does everything I need 🙂 The manual is a joke but there are plenty of great online guides, videos, and even third party software to help program it. You'll need to learn about the different types of MIDI signals, and you'll probably need to change the settings for if to be useful for your particular software. This can be daunting: but the great thing is that every foot switch can be programmed to send up to ten MIDI signals at once (including two CC settings for the two expression pedals). So even though there are two exp pedals: there's kinda 200! (10 switches and 10 banks). The switches all default to "program change" MIDI signals, which I found pretty unuseful, but they can all be changed to CC signals (eg 0/127 toggle or any value you like, on any CC# you like) or even "note" signals if you want to say control a synth bass line as you play!opium32
THIS IS MY FIRST "MIDI" CONTROLLER OTHER THAN FOOT CONTROLLERS THAT COME WITH UNITS. I WAS UNSURE HOW IT WOULD WORK BECAUSE IT WAS NOT MADE BY THE PROCESSOR UNIT I HAD. BEHRENGER MAKES EXCELLENT PRODUCTS AND THIS IS NO EXCEPTION. HEAVY DUTY CHASIS AND SWITCHES ARE JUST THE OBVIOUS WHEN I OPENED THE BOX. I'M USING IT WITH AN AVID ELEVEN RACK BECAUSE THE AVID FOOT CONTROLLER WAS $400 OPPOSED TO THE $100 FOR THE BEHRENGER UNIT. IT DOES EVERYTHING I NEED IT TO DO AND MORE. IT CONTROLS EVERY PATCH CHANGE I CREATED AND EVEN THE PARAMETERS IN THE PATCHES SO I CAN CHANGE THE TONES INSIDE OF EACH ONE. I HAVEN'T EVEN SCRATCHED THE SURFACE OF WHAT THIS UNIT IS CAPABLE OF YET. THE EXPRESSION PEDALS FEEL AND WORK GREAT UNDER FOOT AND REDUCE THE NUMBER OF UNITS ON THE FLOOR. THEY'RE NOT AS GOOD AS SOME STAND ALONE WAHS OR VOLUME CONTROLS BUT ARE GOOD ENOUGH FOR MOST GIGS. I bought my Coreblade (from 123) without a footswitch. It's a necessity to store settings to a preset other than the one you're currently on. The manual talks about it being able to be used with other MIDI footswitches, but through trial and error, you have to put things in a specific order. There is NO ONE to talk to about this. No info in the forum, and unless you want to pony up for a call to Germany, you won't get their American distributor, Yorkville. 5 calls have gone unreturned. Also, bc the manual is for Coreblade AND TubeMeister, it's not clear as to which MIDI cc's work for Coreblade. Again… trial and error. I will tell you that using a pedal to sending cc values on either cc 126 or 127 (can't remember) results in a factory reset!!! Certainly not Music123's fault, but there's just no support for H & K in the US or Canada right now. I'm using it only to move and store patches only – for gigs, I just send PC #'s through my Ground Control Pro – easy enough…MadMax

Got the is pedal with the GM36 and it works well. For the price, it'd be nice if there were a tuner feature or a display for patch names. With the iPod app, you can name your patches but you can never see what they are with his pedal. Might be better off spending a few extra bucks and getting like a Ground Control or another MIDI pedal that has a better display. Overall though, the pedal does what it's supposed to do and does it well. Plus, the cable that came with it is super long, so that was nice.Brian

This is an amazing pedal. if you need a compressor this pedal has 6 different compressor settings that can all be controlled via midi. the blend control is super useful for dialing in exactly how much of the compressed signal you want. the eq is a 3 band eq with bass, middle, and treble. this is a great tool to use to shape your tone. i used it for when i ran a rig with two guitars so that i never lost any frequencies that i wanted that another guitar may not have had a enough of. the boost or bloom as jackson audio calls it starts at unity gain and goes up from the tiniest boost all the way to a what ll make some amps sound like it had its drive turned to 12. overall a very dynamic and useful pedal.i also have the original box included.

I have tried a LOT of compressors over the years, never kept any of them (as a solo boost) I can dial in the perfect amount of compression without killing the dynamics of the amp along with a mid boost and slight treble roll off to make my amp sing! I run the gain on the amp about 3 for "clean" and use the Bloom boost with just a little bit of bump to get into fat crunch and then the comp plus eq for solos. All controlled via MIDI Transparent, doesn't jack with my tone. I borrowed a friend's Synergy Syn 1 with the DS module for a week with the intention of buying one.. no more.Charles
Overall: This optical compressor, EQ, and boost pedal is an all around work horse. The optical compression is really smooth and subtle, which I prefer! The presets are nice to dial in different types and they can be tweaked via MIDI if you're looking for that level of tweakability. I found myself setting it the country mode and really only tweaking the blend knob to control the overall sound of the comp. I like that I can keep as much dry signal as I want to retain some of the dynamic while really pushing the compressed frequencies. The boost is a standard clean boost that adds nice clarity and sparkle. Then you have a three band EQ that adds extra flexibility. All three effects can be turned on and off independently of each other and their is a "bloom" mode with the boost where it will swell in if you press and hold. That's a nice little trick but I don't think I'll use it too much since the boost is almost always on. I use this as a table setter for the rest of my rig now. Great choice for anyone looking for studio quality optical compression!Adam

Simple and it works with little set-up. – a bit limited/basic compared to something like the Nectar Pacer (so many more programming possibilities) The unit I received did not sit true on the desk (wobbled) and the foot switches although fine but not as quiet and responsive as the Pacer for my needs. It's great, very well built and seems to work well. But there is a complete lack of documentation and data on setting up and using and as it's new there's only one short video on Youtube and thanks to that I managed to get it going but I'm never quite sure if I'm getting the best from it. The annoying thing is I rejected another one for the same price that seemed to have more features but reviews said it lacked documentation so picked the Blackstar because I assumed such a well known make would have that sorted. Sound: I’m really happy with the sound pallet available on the SY-1. You can get Metheny style saw wave/string style leads, several organ sounds, Bladerunner basses etc. It’s got a lot of 80’s synth vibe to it. The sound editing is somewhat limited yes, but that’s exactly why I went back to the SY1 from the other synth pedals I tried. Sound for sound, I found the SY1 had the most usable sounds for my style. Pair it up with some chorus, delay, and long decay reverb and it is capable of sounding incredible. Features: By far the best feature to me is that everything you need to make/change sounds is on the top. No PC editor required. While it does limit the capabilities it’s also much easier for an old guy like me to get musical sounds out of it without breaking out a manual or re-learning everything I have forgotten about synths LFO’s and filters from the '80s. Ease of Use: Very easy to use. Plug it in, turn some knobs until you smile. Pair it with an expression pedal for even more fun things to do. Quality: It’s Boss. It’s built like a tank. If zombies rush the stage it could be used as a weapon. Clean it up, plug it back in, and keep playing. Value: When compared to similar offerings from Source Audio, Meris, EHX, I think the SY1 is a fair value. A bit less functionality but what you get instead is easy access to usable sounds for a few bucks less. Manufacturer Support: In the 40 years I’ve been using Boss I’ve only contacted them once. No issues. The Wow Factor: Synth pedals aren’t for everyone, sure. But for that occasional something different on a lead or just for tooling around over ambient soundscapes they can be a lot of fun. Overall: I would consider myself your garden variety guitar player. I play rhythm and lead in a rock cover band and do some ambient and prog stuff on my own and this fits right in with the rest of the gear on my pedalboard. I’ve tried a few other guitar synth pedals from Boss, Meris, and Source Audio and ended up going back to this one because it fits my style and needs the best. The tracking is very, very good. In my humble opinion it tracks better than the C4. I’m not Alex Hutchings but I can play moderately fast and it keeps up with no issues. Compared to other synth pedals this is much more straightforward but also much more limited in sounds. It’s very 80’s vs some of the more experimental sounds you can get out of the others, but that’s what I was looking for. If you are looking for bleeps and boops sounds or want deep editing, this pedal probably isn’t for you. If you are looking for a more traditional GR style sounding synth then this is definitely worth checking out.Allan
This is a very enjoyable pedal. Would I recommend it, and is it good value? That depends on your expectations. It benefits from being used in conjunction with other pedals as on there own some of the synth tones are very dry and digital. I feed an overdrive into it, and a light reverb after. Adding fuzz to the effects loop also adds to make the overall effect more massive. That being said, I have struggled to find tones that I can use with my (rock) band in a live setting, and I was hoping it would enhance/thicken up my sound. Build. It’s a Boss so it will probaat still be around when our sun has gone supernova. Sound. Nothing short of amazing when you consider you do not need to screw some kind of special pick-up on your guitar. And there are sounds galore, 11 types that have 11 subtypes each. That’s 121 in totaal! And all your favorites are there, Lead, Organ, Pad, you name it. Use. As straightforward as it could be. Choise your mail type, select a subtype, dial in tone and debt, adjust the mix with the original signal and you are good to go. Features. On the upside this pedal has it’s own effect loop, the sound of the unit can be manipulated with an external expression pedal, for driving the effect up an octave for instance and the front of the pedal (next to the powerinput) has a little switch where you can determine whether you are using the unit with a guitar or a bassguitar. Possible concerns are the facts that there is no MIDI compatibility, sound can’t be restored or recalled and, suprisingly enough, the unit is mono. Bang for the buck? For days! With these possabilities, features and sounds it is basicalky a steal, not to mention how little real estate this unit takes up on your pedalboard.

First of all let me say I also have the G1ON and bought the G1X Four for the enhanced features and so I'd have one with the expression pedal. I sold all my tube amps when I was laid off, retired and moved to Mexico. My reference point is tweed and blackface era tube amps. I gotta say, once you learn how to dial in the tones you want, these little plastic boxes do a pretty decent job of amp and effects modeling. Like the G1ON, the G1X 4 does a good job of imitating the touch and volume control dynamics of a cranked tube amp at any volume. I really like the Deluxe Reverb, AC30 and DC30 simulations. The G1ON has more vintage style amp types to choose from, and in that regard it is more useful to e. Two kinds of spring reverb, one eats up a lot of memory but really sounds lush like an external unit along with the other types (room, plate, hall, church, etc.). Tremolo is built into the Fender models that have tremolo along with a couple of very configurable trems and rotating speaker effects. The G1 4 does NOT have the Z Organ effect the G1ON does, boo hoo. Beyond that, there are tons of effects to play with and they all sound good to my ears. I currently have 3 small amp setups. 1. Quilter 101 mini docked in their 10" BlockDock cab. 2. Quilter MicroBlock 45 pedal teamed with a 5E3 pine cab with a Emi Legend 12" and 3. an old Carvin SX50 1×12". I can get all three do to do the Deluxe Reverb,Vox AC15/30, E and F series Tweed tones that don't make me miss my tube amps. Wish I would have had the G1ON and the 17.7lb Quilter 1×10" combo back when I was in a blues band and gigging. For several years now, my pedalboard has had only ONE guitar "FX" pedal. First it was the G1Xon. Now it's the G1Xfour. I play both acoustic AND electric thru the pedal, and they BOTH sound great! Though I've played for over 40 years, I'm not a professional musician and rarely play out; but I do play a lot at home and IMO this is the best VALUE "name brand" guitar multi-FX pedal on the market. I can't speak to it's use in a live setting , that's not what I bought this for but to have at home to record whether bedroom music or demos it's perfect. The effects are great they're easy to use, the older Zoom models were a bit laborious to set up and get sounding right but this has enough knobs to feel like you are just setting up any stand alone pedal. The distortions, the delays, reverbs etc are all good but it's the amp modelling and the EQ options that make it a great little tool to work with. No amp or no room for one in your apartment where your neighbours will pound the walls if you so much as sneeze too loud? No problem !!! this little guy's got you covered. A little tinkering and your demos sound better, a little more and you can get a reasonably good sound for home recordings. The looper is great, its easy to use. The tuner is good. What's not to love ? Plug this into your computer or your four-track or whatever recording devise you've got on with the earphones and you have a decent sounding pedal board and amp which takes up as much space as a box of chocolates. No one will be any the wiser. I'm sure I sound like an absolute shill for Zoom. I don't care I have a bunch of their gear and I love it all. Is it built to survive the apocalypse? No. Most of the stuff I own is plastic. Is it as warm and distinctive as Electro-harmonix or Boss ? No, but it's cheap and it's solid and it works. Is it going to sound perfect through your huge amp? I don't know but it's probably not the point. Me – I make music at home with cheap gear because I have no money or space. Zoom are a gift to home recorders everywhere. And thanks to everyone at DV247 as well. Very helpful during a difficult time to get products shipped efficiently.

I would rate this product really high for all of its features but it I have two real complaints. The biggest drawback is the difficult programming. I am using this unit to control a lighting console that requires 'note on' midi signals. If you are using it for a guitar rig that uses 'program changes' it will probably work for you without so much hassle. I am a very tech savy guy and this thing came close to being sent back. It comes with NO instruction manual. You must download it off the internet. That being said, the manual was clear as mud. After several days of agony (I'd think I had it figured out, but it wouldn't work) I finally found the answer on a forum on the internet. Yes…you have to hit the Note button TWICE!! Once to illuminate, the second time to flash..then 'Enter'. Now it works for me. If only the manual had thoroughly explained this! Many people seem to give up and program it with thier computer (with a midi set up of course). The second complaint I have is the FCB1010's enormous size. This thing is massive. When playing guitar I am not a pedal user and I am not use to having anything on the floor except a tiny channel switch. Having to drag this thing around to run the lights doesn't thrill me…but until I can afford a lighting guy, this will have to do. One of the few footswitches that will do all three types of midi signals. Lots of features enabling it to handle simple to very complex rigs. Haven't had it long but it seems to be built pretty robust (as much as can be with todays products being made with so much plastic). The body is metal, the pedals are plastic. The unit is very large and heavy for a footswitch. There are only two pedals I can find that will send midi note signals. This unit costs half of what the other did so I guess it makes it an OK value. Getting through the programming is the hardest part.
I'm surprised there aren't more boards like this, but thankfully it does everything I need 🙂 The manual is a joke but there are plenty of great online guides, videos, and even third party software to help program it. You'll need to learn about the different types of MIDI signals, and you'll probably need to change the settings for if to be useful for your particular software. This can be daunting: but the great thing is that every foot switch can be programmed to send up to ten MIDI signals at once (including two CC settings for the two expression pedals). So even though there are two exp pedals: there's kinda 200! (10 switches and 10 banks). The switches all default to "program change" MIDI signals, which I found pretty unuseful, but they can all be changed to CC signals (eg 0/127 toggle or any value you like, on any CC# you like) or even "note" signals if you want to say control a synth bass line as you play!opium32

The M-Audio EX-P expression pedal is a simple, no frills, budget expression pedal. It has a polarity switch to ensure compatibility in most cases. I can confirm that it works well with the Zoom G3 guitar multi-FX. The pedal is plastic. It seems fairly robust, but obviously the material of its construction means it will only take limited punishment and will probably have a limited lifespan. That said, I've used it at band rehearsals (and will try gigging with it) and it is holding up so far. For the price, one could probably afford to get one or two additional pedals as backups and still spend less than it would cost to get a sturdier metal expression pedal. Been meaning to buy an expression pedal for my midi keyboard for some time, so did a search and the M-Audio expression pedal came up at a great price. I already have the M-Audio sustain pedal on my keyboard and have used M-Audio soundcards in the past so know the brand to be good quality and value, so bought this pedal. I wasn't disappointed, the pedal looks a bit plasticy but is actually more solid than it looks, I wouldn't gig with it but for use in a home studio it is just the job. It responds well in use and I immediately experienced what a difference it made to making my keyboard tracks more expressive. It feels nice to use and has a very smooth action. It was delivered ahead of schedule by Maplin who also had the best price after a search of various suppliers. In conclusion, very pleased with the purchase and would recommend this pedal for home use, great value for the price.jiflem

I have been playing bass guitar regularly for 50+ years. About five months ago I began to put my music (rhythm) charts onto an Acer tablet rather than continuing to use paper charts on a music stand. It has worked well except for when I need to move ahead or back a page in a section when taking my right hand off the bass to swipe the tablet is a problem for maintaining the groove. After some research, I decided an AirTurn PED was the solution. Wrong, at least so far. The problem is that is unreliable. Sometimes I'll have to step on it more than once to turn the page and then sometimes it will jump ahead two or three pages at once and if you're playing at 130 bpm, that's a PROBLEM. And forget about it if the PED is on a carpet or your shoes have soft soles. It simply doesn't work. Hard floors and hard sole shoes are a MUST. I keep thinking "maybe it just needs some breaking in," but on each of the 3 or 4 gigs I've tried it so far, I've quit using it and gone back to swiping with my finger. I hate to give a bad report, but I know when I'm reading a review I want honesty. I'm going to try it another time or two before giving up and looking for something that's reliable. It's a clean design and a great price but if it isn't reliable, it's not worth anything to me.lowendpreferred
I came into Sam Ash to looking for a bluetooth controller to assist me when leading music at church and other activities. I walked to the counter and asked what they had available, and without hesitation they brought to me the PEDpro2. It's perfect! My iPad detected this guy the moment I turned it on and immediately showed up on my iPad's bluetooth list for pairing – which paired instantly after selecting it from the list. And unlike other foot-switches where I constantly had to futz with settings to get the pages to turn the appropriate way, the PEDpro2 turned my pages exactly the way I desired without adjusting any of the settings. What I particularly appreciate is the small portability of the device. It is lightweight and actually fits perfectly in my back pocket if I need to carry it. I first tried to set this up with a Samsung Galaxy Pro 12.2. After two long calls to AirTurn support we determined it was not going to work. (They were very friendly and helpful, BTW.) Finally got it connected to my wife's Galaxy Tab SE 9.7, but it was unreliable there. It seemed to cut in and out, and the Page Up pedal would sometimes page down. I gave up and bought a new ipad prod 10.2 It seems to work fine on that device, although the pagination is not what I expected. If I have a two-page pdf doc and move from one page to another, only half of the next page (up or down, depending on the direction I'm going in) displays. A second tap reveals the rest of the page. This is very disconcerting; I may yet return the item. Also, one important thing to note: The ipad seems to recognize this device as a Bluetooth keyboard. So if you're connected to the pedal and try to do anything else on the pad that requires you to enter text (such as uploading files to a package like ForScore) the pad's keyboard will not display. You have to disconnect the pedal from Bluetooth before the pad's keyboard will display. This was extremely frustrating until I realized what was going on. So I'm keeping the AirTurn for now but am investigating other pedals and may return it. For now I can't say it knocks me out.NJKid

Works well but complicated and is manual hard to understand. Questions submitted to customer support were answered well and promptly. Having an in and out on each loop (in addition to a send and return) allows for support of stereo effects — but be aware that you will consume two loops for each stereo effect. It's midi implementation is better than the other brand's product that is very similar (but you may want to consult their website for better hookup example diagrams). Works well with Roland FC-300 footswitch. Requires LOTS of patch cables — would be better if a loop's "out" connected by default to the next loops "in", but this would have to be override-able.goSteelers

The results are not as powerful and defined as a talkbox effect. But close enough if you don't have the patience or time to master the talkbox techniques. The trick to achieving an articulate pronounciation is to EQ and find the right sounds and gear combinations in your set up or effects chain. I've owned several midi pedals. This is the coolest one I've owned. I don't use 128 patches in my guitar rig. I use a maximum of 5. I just want to switch to them when I'm playing. That's all this does. No programming class required. I just set my patches for my preamp and rack effects and I plug in the midi mouse and scroll and step on the number I need. Overall, I'm very happy with this purchase, it works well, fits well into my pedal board set up and works with all of my 5 pin Midi units. Awesome. This thing is rare. most midi pedals are massive and elaborate. I needed something simple and this is perfect. I can actively search for presets or inactive meaning if I need to go from preset 12 to 23, I can go right from one to the other without the sound changes in between. You can also up and down bank actively hearing every preset in between. Nice having options. Light weight, but metal, not plastic. Could possibly survive a small drop, but probably nothing higher than 3 or 4 ft, you're buying a new one. Bouncy trailers and crouched down fumbles should be ok. Buttons are very common, therefore easily replaceable if need be. About what I expected to pay, but props to Tech 21 for having such great packaging to proctect it during shipping or storage. This is a great controller. I am running a Mesa head with a G-Force effect processer. It is wonderful to change the effect of the G-Force and the channel on the head with one press of a button. The only thing that I did not like is Roland did not include a power supply, it had to be bought separately.Anonymous
The FC-300 MIDI foot controller is a rugged floorboard that gives you complete realtime control over all your MIDI devices. If you're familiar with Rolands older V-Bass or V-Guitar floor modules, or their GT series effects processors, you know the basic physical layout of this unit, and the quality and durability of its parts. There are no flimsy plastic components, and you'd have to work really hard to do any damage to its tough metal chassis. The two Expression Pedals have very smooth travel and output evenly throughout their full range. Theres just enough resistance to allow the pedal to stop securely at any point along its excursion, great if you want to capture a particular filter notch in a wah or synth, or the sweet spot in a volume sweep. In fully depressed position, there are on/off switches that are easy to access without putting all your weight on them, and yet they will not switch too easily so you don't have to worry about accidentally switching them on or off. The two Control Pedals can be set for latch or momentary operation. The Expression and Control Pedals are each assignable to virtually any two controllable parameters. There are two Mode Pedals, generally intended as Bank Up and Down controls, or to switch between Modes when depressed simultaneously. There are five Patch Pedals, each of which can select two patches within any bank. Depending on which of the four Modes is selected (standard, control, sys ex, or patch) each of the pedals can be assigned somewhat different if related functions. All pedals have associated lights to let you know exactly whats currently engaged. The two-line LCD allows for 16 characters per row, so you can have a pretty thorough designation for each selected patch. The variable intensity lighting in the LCD display insures that the characters are clear and easy to read in any lighting. If you need more control, the FC-300 has three additional jacks for connecting external Expression or Control Pedals, and a dedicated Mode jack for a pedal just to switch among Modes. There are even Amp Control jacks so you can switch between amp channels and their effects if your amp allows for that. Because this is a MIDI controller, of course there are MIDI in and out jacks too! The FC-300 has an onboard memory of 8 KB, and is capable of storing 100 separate Patches. If you have a very extensive MIDI set-up and somehow need more than 100 onboard Patches, that may be the only limitation you'll find with this controller. Full disclosure, this is more than Ive attempted with mine so far, but thats on the horizon. While a full-featured MIDI controller able to work with all MIDI devices, the FC-300 is optimized for both the VG-99 and the VB-99, and communicates with them so seamlessly that all programming is effortless and automatic. Ive only used mine with the VB-99, and I couldn't be happier with just how transparently easy it is to use, and how perfectly all the functions perform. No need to be fluent in MIDI if thats your main use for this. The FC-300 can be powered by an external power supply or internal batteries, but as an additional bonus when connected to the VB-99 through Rolands RRC2 cable (their proprietary CAT5 cable), it derives all its power from that. That eliminates the need for a separate power cord or MIDI cables to the VB-99 too, helping to minimize stage or studio clutter. The FC-300 isnt a sexy device, but its an extraordinarily functional one and will make your life a lot easier. Packed with features, as versatile as you could want, expandable with external pedals, and built solidly enough to withstand all the rigors of the road, Roland got this one exactly right.
