Good little attenuator. the nice thing, besides price, about this attenuator is you can select your ohm output from 4, 8, or 16. so if you have multiple amps with different ohm outputs, you can use this for multiple amps. wouldn't actually try a 100 watt amp with it though, it's not robust enough to truly handle 100 watts, no matter what bugera tells you. anything less is fine. there are just a few hours on this as i've upgraded to an ox box. includes a printed manual.

I have a vintage 1978 Marshall 50w JMP half stack that was gathering dust in my studio. We all know that 50 Marshall watts is closer to 75w when dimed. With no master volume or effects loop I was seriously considering selling this rig as it was too loud for home studio use. This Bugera PS1 solved my problem!!!!! The unit is very well made, has three input options 4/8/16 ohms & most importantly a balanced mic emulation XLR & unbalanced line out. I tested these outputs on my Tascam 24 track & it sounds fantastic. I put the line out & xlr out into separate tracks & I got the classic Marshall sound we are looking for. I had my heads volume around 7-8 & used 4 ohm out. I attenuated till I could hear my guitar strings strumming. Even though the PS1 is rated 100w, my 50 w head got the PS1 pretty “toasty” so make sure you have plenty of air around it.marstegreg
I have a Princeton reverb amp that I love the sound of but always have to play it on the quiet channel. The amp sounds great but really springs into life with the volume dialed at 4.5. This is fine on the quiet channel but is still too loud late at night. Also, I'd been watching lots of reviews of the amp on YouTube and seen that it is capable of much more than I was making use of but that it meant cranking the volume. The Bugera PS1 had loads of great reviews so I thought I'd give it a go. Wow! Firstly I noticed that it removed the noise floor of the amp making it pretty much silent when not playing. I can now run my amp in the normal channel with the volume at 10 (though I prefer 4 to 8) and not disturb anyone else in the house (too much ). I've now got several new setting options to use with my amp from gloriouscleans to varying degrees of overdrive. I also found that recording is now easier with the reduced noise when mic'd and the line out works great as well. Overall: This is the first review I have ever written for a piece of gear. All I can say is that this thing is worth every penny, it is excellent. I have owned the Two Notes Torpedo and the Rivera Rock Crusher. While the aforementioned are all good in certain aspects, the Tone King does the job better. It is organic, transparent and built like a tank. While it's not a particularly light piece of gear, it's hefty construction reeks of quality and craftmanship. The Presence control on the front is intuitive and very helpful as I use it on different settings for two separate pieces of gear, a Friedman and an EVH. I also use it with the Mesa Triple Crown, but the Mesa is my stage amp and I just crank that one without much attenuation. The Hi and Lo frequency knobs are the perfect option for when it's REALLY late at night and you just need a little more attenuation without the fuss. Yes, it's pricey, but priced well below UA's and perhaps just as good. It took me a while to pull the trigger as I started my journey with the Bugera, which is absolute garbage then graduated to more expensive attenuators. This is the one.
I have a glorious Fender Pro Brownface that I take to sessions, and love to use at home. But, at home I can't really crank it to the edge of break up for the blossom point that brownfaces are known for. Until know. 40 watts, 8 ohms, and no change to the quality of the tone of my amp. Absolutely thrilled with this attenuator!

I have 3 of these amps so far and love them. You can't expect a big tube sound because it's not that but rather a smaller very useful sound. I customize them slightly with an 8" speaker that fits in them and do a few other little things. For very little money you can have a killer little tweed looking amp. Cool little amp. Been spending some time playing with it. Love the tweed look. Wish they hadn't put the Rogue plaque on the front of the grill, and had kept true to the Champ 600 look by putting it on the top of the amp over the speaker. The clean channel is good, wish it had some built in reverb. The distortion channel is good too. I ran my "Bluesdriver" pedal into it and it sounded even better. I will likely change out the stock speaker for the Eminence 6.5 speaker to try and coax a little more sound out of this great little amp.KWB MUSIC

When I ordered this amp I expected to change out the tubes for JJs because if recommendations in the reviews I read. The stock tubes in this particular amp didn't produce any rattle and also provided plenty of clarity and bass. I don't sense the need to change out the tubes. This amp has more head room than my 1×10 2013 '65 Princeton Reverb Reissue Amp and I'll say its louder. The Vox Ac10c1 doesn't have a footswitch input installed onto it, if you want to switch from reverb to gain you will have to do it by hand as youre playing. The gain is rich, its a decent factory built in, the gain effect on my 4×10 2003 Fender Concert Reverb Amp doesnt sound nearly this good, if you buy the newer Marshall 20 watt tube amp or their MG solid state series amps their gain effects have a thinner, more static sounding than gritty sound to them. Vox amps have that more lush grit sound, akin to the sound we hear in the songs Ripcord and Vegetable by Radiohead (though Thom Yorke uses a turbo rat pedal) Haven't tried the Ac10c1 with a drummer, setting the Ac10c1 on an amp stand to project the speaker upward or placing this amp on a table should work just fine. The portability and light 27 pound weight are a huge plus if you decide on taking this amp anywhere. With this amp in one hand and a guitar stand and your guitar in a case in the other hand- you will be able to comfortably enter to set up and exit to load up in single trips. I originally expected to change the amp handle out for a leather handle but this vinyl handle is pretty thick. While playing through this amp, you can really feel and hear the nuances of its tube sensitivity while strumming and if you dig in with a pick, you can go from soft to really loud. The touch sensitive dynamics have been well calibrated in this amp. Again, the only downside is the lack of a footswitch input to switch between the amps good sounding gain and so so digital (not analog spring) reverb channel, no one seems to mention this. Everyone has their own effects pedals and loopers and what they already like to use so it almost balances out. I must say I actually like the sound of the gain on this amp. Again Im glad I didnt settle for a solid state Marshall in this price range, or the latest 20 watt tube Marshall which both felt and sounded lesser quality to me. The Ac-10not only looks the business but it has since real depth and warmth to its tone. Clean – it’s bright and has the chime you’d expect. Turn up the gain and your tone breaks up but still retains clarity. Having the gain wide open and master volume down means you can still have the saturated crunch but not disturb others . Perfect for home use but would not be out of place in a small pub gig. Takes pedals will and with a multi-fix like a GT 100, if you disable the amp sim and use like a conventional pedal board, you don’t lose any quality of the AC10’s natural tone. A masterful amp and it even smells nice with those tubes cooking.Mark R.
Ive been playing 35 years and this is probably the best all around practice amp ive ever heard. Pros- looks great, sounds very good, cleans thump and chime, distortion can wail. Its loud for its size. Seems built well. Have had no bad issues. Cons- clean isnt near as loud as w the gain cranked up. No reverb. In short if this amp was 50-100W and had reverb and an external speaker jack id never play another amp. Good job VOX.jjsrvfan

I bought this amp because my gig amp died a cyber twin 2-12s 100 watts that was about 16 years old. I have had many Fender amps they were great. I do country and 50s and 60s rock and roll. I figured 100 watts would put it out there and it does. At performing volume, the distortion is a pure heavy metal on the clean channel. Mine is not much good for high volume for my type of music. I have an old champion 110 75 watt that I will be using It has worked for me when the others were down. Not sure what to do.stev_majo
Great starter/practice amp. It gives a great tone for a great price. Gives some really great crunchy distorted tones for metal and rock. Also gives a great clean tone. Has plenty of built-in effects too. It gets pretty loud when you need it to, and has a 3.5mm headphone jack for convenience and quiet practicing. I love this amp! It is a great amp. Very good sound and options for the price. It is not heavy which is a big deal to someone who has had back surgery. I gave it a 5 in spite of one big complaint. When you turn it off you hear a loud "POP!" Wow, is that loud is what I thought the first time I heard it. I read about it online and there is a simple fix. Find an old set of ear phones or ear buds that you would use on a cassette player or a Sony Walkman. (Yes, these are ancient electronic relics from the past for you younger people. You might ask your parents if they have a cassette player and borrow the ear plugs.) Just plug that earphone jack into the "PHONES" input BEFORE you turn it off. THEN you only hear a little blip when you turn it off. THEN just pull the jack out of the "PHONES" input before you start it next time.chasmigu

I use this primarily as an attenuator. I’ve tried most of the products on this market which all have various shortcomings. The TAE allows you to actually use your tube amp without blowing out your ear drums. It’s the closest thing I’ve found to going straight into an amp. Very transparent. I had another reamper that was tube based and about half the cost that was very dark and colored the sound. Also significantly impacted the reverb/vibrato in my HW deluxe reverb. No issues like that with the TAE and also does well with pedals. Highly recommend. Very pricey, but gives you lots of flexibility. The onboard effects are very “digital” sounding to my ear, so I just turn them off.Joel Gilmore
I've had this device for two weeks now and am selling my PS2 in favor of it (although the PS2's attenutation is just as good). I've used many attenuators over the years and this one is probably among the best. The variable loads help with the feel and reactance of your amp – there's nothing else with this option on the market. The attenuator works great, as well and has a smooth taper for volume. Unlike the OX or other attenuators, doesn't effect your sound as you reduce volume other than removing some speaker drive characteristics. The onboard effects have Boss standard serviceability in their sound and having a boost EQ is very useful. For live use they would do the trick but in the studio I'd opt for some plugins. I expected the IRs to be lackluster, but actually compare very favorably to other 3rd party IRs on the market and are pleasantly satisfying through headphones. If you're looking for a good tube amplifier silent recording solution with effects, routing options, and attenuation for live use… this is the best one on the market IMO. In fact, if you've got an older lower wattage amp, this can bring it up to band volume through a higher power speaker cab. Pricey, but with all those options – worth it!Temple12
Unit itself: After watching all the YouTube videos and reading forum sites I was convinced for a bit that I was just doing something wrong. It seem to add some gain to every amp I had. The only way it sounded close to was to turn the volume of the amp itself down. The reactive load section didn't help at all and it wasn't real clear on exactly I was changing when switching them. The "suggested" settings in the manual did nothing for me. The only way I was able to get a sound even close to what I had without it was to crank the unit which defeated the purpose… For low volume playing at home I could have just turned the amp itself down and used an OD to get the drive… Other guitar player in my band mentioned the Bugera PS1 sounded better! This unit basically made my amps digital. If you're a fan of digital products you will be fine. If not, I'd look elsewhere. Effects/Rigs/Software: I like the effects that was in the unit and giving some tweaking I could see using them. If I could have gotten the tone worked out I could have easily set up rigs with just those effects and done away with half of my board…. Rigs work just fine, you save presets that are switchable with the unit for the controller. Some people complain but that lack of "on the fly" edits and that they can only be made within the software, it never bothered me. The software itself worked fine for me but I could see where someone with more experience using software to control music equipment might have an issue with it. At the time of this writing it can't be used with a updated iMac. Loading IR's takes forever so I used software instead. If there was no other option on the market it would be great, there's tons though, and Youtube isn't the best way to judge a product. Glad I tried it so at least I know but I'm very grateful for Guitar Center's 45 day return policy!Chris K

I just completed my Mod 102 kit. An excellent experience! I was delighted with the quality of components, clarity of instructions, and, perhaps most importantly, the sound of the amp. It is very loud – currently running into my Fender Twin Reverb cab (2×12) and very sweet! I will be running it into a new 1×12 cab with a new Celestion G12 M Heritage 'Greenback' when I get a case for the speaker (on order). My only criticism (and something to look out for) is that the chassis is very nicely painted in gray gunmetal paint. Even following the directions to file all the holes, it is very hard to get a good ground connection at every point a terminal strip connects. I worried about this, and about 1/3rd of the way through the build, took an ohm meter to check all the connections, and as I had suspected, some of the connections were not great (9-10 ohms or so!) So I removed the terminal strips (with the components I had already soldered still attached) and scraped away the paint under the tabs of the strips to ensure a good connection. Re-testing showed virtually zero resistance. I'd strongly recommend scraping the paint away at all holes under the chassis before getting started on the build. Even better, suggest that Amplified Parts leave the inside chassis unpainted (at least around the important holes). Aside that one criticism, I am delighted with the kit and with Amplified Parts. I spent three evenings building the MOD102. The instructions are very easy to understand and the amp has a great Fender sound. I had one grounding issue that was easily fixed with a little help from tech support, which was excellent. If you're good at following step by step instructions and can solder well this is a fun little amp to build. Only small issue is the labels. They could stand an improvement.Brandon
I just finished this amp build and it sounds fantastic! I also just finished a Marshall 18 Watt clone and I have to say that the Mod102+ holds its own very nicely alongside the Marshall. In fact, I will probably use the Mod102+ for recording because it sounds amazing at lower volumes (the Marshall is loud AF). Honestly, if I were only going to build one of them today, it would be the Mod. I'm blown away by the tone! Great kit with excellent instructions. Great bang for the buck. The parts all seem to be top quality. I love the old style cloth solid core wire, too. I find it much easier to work with than modern stranded wire. The labels are a bit lame but I covered them with packing tape as suggested before cutting them out and they look fine. If you're thinking about building an amp, build this one.danjbeckett

Have used this a handful of times since buying – very simple to use and works as described. It basically sits between the amplifier and speaker to absorb some of the amplifier power output and reduce the volume of the speaker. This is great for getting power tube break-up at more reasonable volume levels. The unit is very well built, simple to use and seems to be pretty transparent (I can't detect any noticeable difference in tone when using the attenuator at 70% or 50% of original signal strength). Really useful for me – enables me to get tube break up at sensible gig volumes and get the best out of my tube amplifier. Personally, I wouldn't use this for bedroom practice levels but a great option for taking a little volume off for gigs or recording sessions while still running master amp volumes into that "sweet spot".Reviewed by Andertons Music Co.

I'm impressed for only being 2.5 watts this little guy sounds good and loud. For my home studio and office. This guy fits for late night playing at low wattage where even my dsl 20 is too loud. I recently obtained this because I have a Randall Diavlo 5W amp head that does not have a working power section, and so I wanted some kind of power amp to route its preamp into that was also not terribly loud since I only require it for at home practice. I run this set-up into two 1x12s with a Celestion Greenback and a Celestion G12-65 Heritage. The sound is actually pretty great! It certainly feels tube-y and even at 2.5 watts, it can get loud (maybe not as loud as you want it with a live drummer, but loud enough for jamming against a backing track coming out of your studio monitors for instance). I will say that if you like to jam clean, this power amp may not be for you. At 2.5 watts, it gets nice break up pretty early (at about 9 o clock). So I think it is better suited for dirty tones and metal. If you want more headroom it will make more sense to get the EHX Howitzer or the Magnum 44 (though i think the Magnum is too loud for home use). About the only con I can see with this pedal is the power supply it comes with is slightly large (though not gruesomely large as say the Line 6 HX Stomp). Also, it requires 500mA to operate, so make sure your pedal power supply can supply that or else you will have to deal with the included power supply. Thank you EHX! I am using it with a Mark V 25 Head + 1×12 slant cab. I was very much on the fence about buying an attenuator but after doing some research, i decided to go for the TK Ironman ii mini because: – The Mark V 25 does NOT have a single master, but a per channel one, which needs to be set between 10-11 for the amp to shine (otherwise it sounds bleak and thin). By using this thing, I have a single master, the amp is in "set and forget mode" – Sits on top of the head. It is light and relatively portable. – It is PASSIVE (no power adapter needed) – It is very granular. I personally do not use the "solo" function because it sits on the amp, but that gives another layer of versatility. Only downside is the small rubber feet which I replace for bigger ones to sit properly on the head. That's not a problem, just an observation in case you are wondering. Great bang for the buck.Nando

This has to be one of the best stamps I've ever had with the exception of one little hiccup. This is replacing a Fender Blues Deville, which I absolutely loved. I had access to almost every Fender amp when I bought my Blues Deville and it just spoke to me. Well, they don't make Blues Devilles anymore, and I knew the Hot Rod Deville existed, so I went for it. To my ears, it's the same as my previous amp. This is a two channel amp in which each channel is independent of the other with the exception of the tone knobs, which are the same for both channels, which is not a problem for me. When I plugged it in, I couldn't believe how incredible it sounded clean. It absolutely blew my mind. I used both a Stratocaster and a Les Paul. Then, I took the second channel and add a little bit of gain to it, which distorted it. The distortion on this amp is so creamy that I don't even need to use my TS9. It has to be one of the best distortions I have ever heard from an amplifier. I usually use an Orange TH30C for my distortion. My Fender amp was always a clean amplifier. I may be using this one for the distortion and my Orange may get sidelined. The reason I'm giving this amp four stars is because of the following; when you go to switch channels using the included foot switch, there's a loud pop that happens every time you switch channels while you're playing. Apparently, it's inherent to the amplifier. It's the only reason I cannot use this amplifier with clean and dirty at the same time unless I use a TS9 on the clean channel. That really was not a well thought out process from Fender. For the price of this amp, I would think that problem would've been fixed, but it is what it is. I still love the amplifier and I'm still glad I bought it, although I will have to use my Orange when I want a distorted sound.Chuck
I bought my new Fender Blues Jr v4 about 2 months ago from a guy who decided he was more of a "Marshall Guy After All" so I got a bargain, but that was just the beginning. I wanted to spend some time and several sessions playing with this thing before I rushed into a review, but it turns out my first impressions have been even more reinforced since playing this thing for several hours, and the big word here is WOW. I have been playing for over 62 years (that's right, got my first guitar at 7) and bought my first Strat in high school. I've played and owned a LOT of different amps, and even now I have a few pieces for which I have some sentiment, but now it seems I will have to seriously reconsider. Good thing there is no "Amp Limit Law", but if there was I could finally happily liquidate all the others if I could have just my new Blues Jr. I have read voraciously for years about concepts such as "touch sensitive", "controlling breakup with the guitar volume", "takes pedals well", etc. Turns out these have only been myths to me all this time until now. Everything good and superlative that's been written about this amp is absolutely true. The preamp section is like pure magic in shaping the tone and delivering it to my favorite-EL84 power amp section. I have never been a fan of the usual Fender tube lineup, and when I heard this runs EL84s I was already excited. I am still a Strat guy to this day and love everything about it. But I have never even dreamed it could sound so good. I have an Egnater Rebel 20, a vintage Crate 15 watt blonde with a Dr Z speaker, and my prior favorite-a 5 watt Epiphone Valve Jr into a 12" Eminence Lady Luck. I have some others, but nothing I own or have owned can even come close to this thing. And what has been said about the Celestion speaker choice is again, absolutely right on. The sound from this amp would be as if you had an old Deluxe Reverb, did a cap job, retube, and maybe speaker upgrade. I guess I'm trying to say that it soundsMark, R
Simplicity itself, with great tone and a big sound from a small package. I've a few amps, ranging from heads and cabs to combos, but had a hankering for a small tube combo – one that could do a rehearsal if needed. This has a great sound with a 335 and a Telecaster, and so easy to dial in a fantastic tone – infact hard to get a bad tone. Plenty loud enough, I would happily take this out and gig it. I love the fact you can unplug the internal speaker and plug it into a cab, makes it a great package. No perceivable noise when winding it up, and the stock speaker is great, good tight bass and nice and chimey on top. Seems solidly built, but I guess time will tell on that front. Great sounding clean tones for playing at home, which is why i bought it – my beloved Mustang 1.1 started having issues and I MUST have a great clean tone to relax. Wanted a tube amp and did my research. Decided on the Blackstar. I must say I'm extremely happy with it. The reverb is KILLER to my ear and does a great job at adding shimmer without destroying the tone. No external effects are needed to get a gorgeous clean tone – I use my Zoom G3Xn into the front end to get univibe and compression. The effects loop is very functional. The amp can be very bass heavy, depending on your instrument, but if you run a 10 band EQ (go with MXR) in the loop you amp can achieve any tonal result you want. My best sound comes with everything at 12, with some of the bass rolled off with the MXR EQ – but its just a matter of taste i guess. This amp moves a lot of air when you use the drive channel, and if your not pleased with the amps distortion it does respond really well to distortion pedals. I'm mostly in the clean blues zone but must brag on the amps darker side: it can get very loud and stay rich. I haven't tried any of the direct recording features. The 2 selectable characters of clean that the amp offers thrill me and ,again, the reverb is classy and a bit different from other amps ( I read that is a room reverb). Highly recommended.Tim H.
This amp out of the box sounds fantastic. Crystal clear clean tones and a snarly gain channel that lets you choose between a more American gain tone and a British gain tone. I would say ‘cater for everyone’. But, I received my first amp and within an hour of playing I’d noticed a loud ‘POP’ when changing channels. This pop occurred if a note was being played at the same time as the channel change. (Footswitch and Amp buttons) So, of course I returned the Amp to PMT. they arranged DPD next working day collection for me, completely hassle free. I awaited my next amp, as a direct replacement. A few days later the next Blackstar HT-5R mkii arrived, box fresh like the last. I plugged the amp in, let the tubes warm and away I went. Within minutes of found a great tone again, but the loud ‘POP’ I heard from the first unit was there again on this amp. I tried 4 sockets in the house in case there was any kind of interference/static, but to no avail. Absolutely gutted, I called PMT again. The amp was returned for the second time. Apparently this hasn’t happened to anyone else, I may just be unlucky or the amp may not get along with the electrics in my home. Just check this out as soon as you buy one. I’ve tried two other valve amps on my house since, including a Blackstar Artist 10 AE and an Orange terror with cab, and there’s absolutely zero noise with these. Very important to note here, this is not a slam of PMT, they’ve been absolutely brilliant throughout this whole thing. Customer service is second to none and they are very easy to contact. Used these for a very long time and I will be returning once stores open to try out a new amp.Jack H.
Overall: So, I have been playing guitar for 40 years, always used Marshall's, So I did a bit of research, And found that 2 guys from the research and development team at Marshall for almost 20 years were trying to make some changes on some Marshall amps, Well Marshall said, "No", and these 2 guys decided to leave and start their own Co. Well just let me say, This 50 Watt head, Loaded with British sound and quality, could not be better! So many different features, and options of tone is incredible! Anyone looking to buy a Marshall head for over 2k, buy one of these!! you will not be disappointed! My god it sounds incredible! Après quelques temps pour dompter le set up on a accès à un ampli de bonne qualité et super polyvalent. Personnellement, je préfère le brancher dans mon 2×12 mais la red box fait un travail très correct. C’est puissant et on peut accéder a pas mal de sonorités différentes. Il ne manque qu’une réverbération mais c’est facilement insérable dans la boucle d’effet.
Ich habe den Ampman aufgrund der vielen guten Bewertungen im Netz gekauft und bin sehr zufrieden. Ich nutze ihn auf einem Pedalboard mit einem vorgeschalteten Elektron Analog Drive und im Effektloop einem Line 6 M5 und uraltem Ibanez Stereo Chorus. Der Sound des Ampman alleine gefällt mir schon sehr gut und es gibt einen Haufen Einstellmöglichkeiten. In Verbindung mit dem Analog Drive lässt sich das gefühlt endlos erweitern. Wer nicht gerade so ein Riesending wie den Analog Drive auf sein Board packen möchte, kommt sicher auch mit einem einfachen Zerrer gut aus. Wie gesagt, die Möglichkeiten sind gefühlt unendlich. Die Bauqualität ist auch super. Die schlechte Ablesbarkeit der weißen Schrift kann ich bestätigen. Stört mich aber in der Praxis überhaupt nicht. Die Redbox AE über Kopfhörer finde ich Klasse. Sound gefällt mir auch da sehr gut.

We all know that the valves have to be set to "stun" to get a great tone, and being someone who mainly does a lot of home recording, trying to get the amp to where it needed to be would shake the foundations of the house (along with the wife's temper!!). Works perfect, built like a Tank. No hum like the variac I had. Use this with a '68 AB763 silver face drip edge blackline Super Reverb. My line voltage was consistently 125. I drop the voltage to 117 or below. Now I can crank the amp without blowing the 2amp fuse. Would recommend this for all vintage amps. Smooths out my Mark V as well.Ken

Blown away by it. No-one needs actual cabs anymore. Or mics. Tube amp cranked into headphones in the middle of the night? no problem. The cabinet models sound fantastic and there are extra little sound tweaks available like body & thickness that can really lift your tone. It also comes with a plugin that can do the cab emulation in software, with all the benefits that brings – such as not "printing" the sound at the time of recording. Unless you're playing live (and even if you are, tbh), don't buy a cab, just get one of these. It's so good I wanna keep it a secret. Dang too late.Robert G.
All the features stand out! The attenuator feature is nice as you can use this to crank the amp and have bedroom or slightly louder volumes for that cranked amp sound. The stereo headphones is very nice for quiet night time playing. The cabs sims are great with software for PC/MAC and Bluetooth versions for IOS and android. The IR loader is great as you can load your favorite IR into the device. The on board reverb and all the mic, EQ and room adjustments. I have been able to get greats sounds from this device in all aspects, as an attenuator for my amp, and a excellent cab simulator. The 'feel" is great. For the price, nothing else comes close, and if this was more expensive, it still would be better than what's is currently out there. My exceptions were exceeded as all the features were really good, not just one or two.Dave
I’ve never believed in amp sims. They can make do for parts buried in a mix but never stand up on their own. With the Captor X your amp will sound like… your amp. The interface is easy to use and versatile enough to make your amp sound like you want. It’s not like playing your guitar in the room (unless you have a real speaker connected as well). It’s like a recorded playback of your guitar in a room. It reacts properly because it’s your amp reacting. Stock cab sims seem fine but I decided to get some Celestion Greenback IRs since that’s what I use in the world. Happy to say that they sound like Greenbacks. I was worried about unrealistic sound and input lag but no complaints about either. I was worried about using fuzz and distortion pedals but they sound as they should. You can certainly make it sound bad, but you can do that with expensive microphones and boutique amps just the same. I don’t think you can get better without paying more than twice the price. I don’t think it’s better than miking up a real cabinet but I will be recording a lot more guitar without having to hire a studio or traumatise my neighbours. It does take some tweaking but it’s all down to your own preferences and the point is that those tweaks can get you where you want to go. I’d suggest looking up the Andy Demo on YouTube to hear some guitar in isolation. Search for “captor x with fuzz pedal” and you should find a video called “doom pedalboard 2.0…” from Dirty Demos to see what high gain distortion pedals do. These will demonstrate some actual normal playing rather than directionless noodling. If you don’t like the sound then this is not for you, and that’s fine. If you’re trying to record tube amps and you don’t have a nice big space with understanding neighbours then this could be what you’re looking for. It’s definitely what I hoped it would be.
