Just want I wanted Santa ! A Christmas present to myself . Always had problems of a slightly distorted sound that I could hear, my friends not so much. Tried different antenna and recieved better reception but still noticed that distorted sound. I Checked the ground from receptacle to breaker box and to earth ground, all good. Next obvious step was to clean and filter the electric. This Furman cleaned that distorted sound. Bass and mids more punchy and defined, with no distortion or hiss in the treble. The drum cymbals are detailed now I can hear the different cymbals crashing and having distinction. Overall: This unit costs a pretty penny- BUT you get quality and peace of mind! This is a rather large and heavy (11lbs) piece, and quite deep. Did I have problems before- NO- my sound system was rock solid and sounded great! BUT, there is a slight perceptible improvement with this unit. I have 2 other Furman units, and am using a M-8Dx as my second unit, itself a fine unit. BUT, am going to replace with another PL Plus DMC very soon! I use this product for my guitar amps. The PL-PLUS-DMC clearly enhanced the quality of my guitar amplifier tone. I noticed that one unit made my amp sound much better, but when I ran 2 amps through one unit, the sound was noticeably worse; so, I bought another unit, and I run each amp through it's own conditioner. The tone improvement is definitely worth the cost, so I didn't hesitate to purchase the second unit for my second amp. We frequently experience lightning in our area. The Furman power conditioner gives me some peace of mind that my gear is protected. I recently ventured back to HiFi. Back in the day I had loads of quality equipment including Quad Electrostatic model Ts and host of great analogue equipment which has all gone by the wayside as I moved throughout my lifetime with less space than before. So I decide to get HiFi in a box with the latest KEF LS 50 Wireless 2 speakers along with a pair of KC 62 Subs. After placing the LS 50 W 2's on stands I noticed the super sharp accurate sound that I had heard in the audition room, but something else was missing from the equation. That something else was the cleaning up of the electricity before it reached my equipment. When I first heard of this I thought it to be hocus-pocus, but I read the reviews, called Furman customer service and decided to there was solid reasoning towards what improvements I would hear. So I made the purchase and I hooked up the Furman 20 PFI and let me tell you, brother, the step up in clarity, staging, speed of sound and warmth was immediately very apparent. It is definitely worth the investment for this particular unit, and it should only get better as the equipment achieves full breakup, which according to Furman is about 2 weeks down the road after plugging in. I hoped this would help somewhat but I've been surprised by how much. My apartment outlets have fairly high and unstable voltage and some devices don't work well connected directly to the wall or through a normal surge protector. In particular anything with a wall wart was noisy before. They're all dead silent now. Also I used to get loud pops from my monitors if changing fan speed or adjusting other stuff in the apartment but that's gone with the monitors plugged into the Furman. Pretty impressive.
Recently, I just built a new PA system for one of my bands. After investing several thousand dollars in a digital console and new power amps, we decided that we should up the ante on our power conditioning. I've been using Furman gear since the early 80's (I've got one of their parametric EQs in a studio rack that's still rockin'). Their power conditioners have been in my equipment racks as long as they've been making them. But the ones we had been using for the PA were coming up on 8 years old. Being a Senior Electronics Tech by trade, I knew that certain components in a power conditioner wear out over time. After comparing specs, features, and price we opted to go with the PL-Plus-C. The two specs I really look at for a power conditioner are the noise attenuation and the response time. A lot of manufacturers don't fully spec these, and in my experience an omitted spec is usually one they're not very proud of. The attenuation and response time of the PL-Plus-C is on par with some of Furman's more expensive solutions, just minus the whistles and bells. I gave up having a digital live voltage readout, but for me the bar graph style meter is a lot easier to read across a stage. Bonus points to Furman for adding the LED on the front to indicate that the protection circuitry is working. This is a section of power conditioners that takes the brunt of line surges (so your equipment doesn't have to). It does eventually wear out, and to have that "wear indicator" on the front is huge! And the lamp socket on the rear panel is a handy addition when working on your connections…because we all know how well most clubs are lit, right? Finally, the unit is seriously built. It's funny because one of the only negative reviews I've ever read on this conditioner was someone complaining about the weight. Well, that rookie apparently doesn't realize that good noise attenuation on AC power lines takes some sizeable inductors, and those are use going to have some heft to them. I personally find the weight (12 pounds) to be reassuring. So, how well does it work? Time will tell. Again, this is 1 rack unit of insurance. I can tell you this…in all of my time using Furman power products I have never lost a piece of gear to an electrical event. And when I can read interviews and see pictures of the gear that a lot of pro touring musicians and sound companies use and see the same piece of gear I've got in my rack…well, there's got to be something to that.

I bought this to protect my favorite bass amp. This is my second unit that I have purchased. Plenty of plugs including "wall wart" plugs in the rear. Having the additional plug on the front is super handy for lots of uses (charging your phone at band practice?) I like that it is deeper than other PDU's Allowing access to the outlets easier. Still not as deep as a drawer so you gotta space things out in the rack a bit. The LED's are great; very bright. This on top of my double rack set will do 16U easily. I like that it has a LED hookup on the back, but I'd rather that it was integrated; oh well. I can honestly say that I've used Furman power conditioners for decades. My career in audio has included live sound, television and studio recording and Furman is standard equipment everywhere I work. Most people don't realize that they should have one of these instead of just surge protection. It really isn't that much more for a clean power source and the benefits outweigh the cost, you'll likely be using this 20 years from now. If you get noise from vacuums or clicks from appliances turning on or line noises from most anything this will eliminate it. There are many smaller noises that you won't notice until the amplification is much greater but are still there. These noises combine to degrade the sound quality and what's the point of high end audio if you're going to introduce line noise? It will not fix ground problems but now you know what your problem is and can take steps to fix your ground. The noise filtering is for broadband electromagnetic interference caused by things like electric motors, heaters, some lights, transformers and power supplies. I don't even have to get into the radio frequency interference filtering and why it's needed in this world of wireless we live in, do I? When performing at different venues you cannot be without a few of these because you'll run into truly bad power at some of them. Use this or like it in your amp racks to eliminate the buzz from light control dimmer packs, just calculate your needs because this is only good for about 1600 watts depending on the line voltage, which you can't depend on. I also recommend using ferrite ringed cables on your computer equipment where possible, to reject and contain interference, usually the USB and monitor cables. A while back I fixed a click from a wireless mouse byusing this on a USB audio interface. This has 2 wall wart spaced outlets plus 6 more on the back with 1 on the front and a 15 amp breaker, which is likely the same rating as the outlet you're plugging it into. It of course has the best in surge protection. The only thing missing from this low priced model is voltage regulation and the pull out lights to illuminate a rack. It's small and an excellent option for home use. Furman is the professional's choice and recommended.A.J.

The M-8X2 is a solidly built power conditioner that filters spikes and line noise and protects from surges, in a compact 1U rackmount unit with an all-metal enclosure. Convenience features include a front-mounted outlet and three outlets spaced for wall-wart AC adapters. One other great feature: They're quiet! I used to use APC battery backup/power filters but their constant AC humming was audible in my studio environment. I got two of these M-8X2s to replace them, and I'm not missing the battery backup function so far. Note, if using more than one unit in a rack, you may want to place the units at the top of the rack and provide 1-2U of space between them to accommodate AC adapters, so they don't block other outlets or devices; regular line cords are not a problem. I have this power conditioner rack mounted with an Orange OB1-500 and a Korg PitchBlack tuner. I've been using this setup pretty heavily both in rehearsal and gigging out. I've never had any issues and it provides a clean, solid power supply. It's very simple to operate. Plug it in and go. No bells and whistles, but in my opinion, that's what you look for in a power conditioner. Solid, reliable, and simple functionality. Furman is pretty much the gold standard in power conditioner and this one comes at a very reasonable price. As a cool bonus, the 2 retractable, swiveling lights are a nice feature to have especially in dimly lit venues. Overall, if you need a basic power conditioner that will handle any of your small to medium rack power needs, then the Merit M-8LX is the way to go.B-money

When I think of all the cheaper power bars I've purchased over the years, it makes me wish I knew about this product long ago. The cheaper ones, including Monster and other "quality brands", do not provide this level of protection and filtering. Also, the cheaper ones all eventually die, meaning they stop protecting my stuff. One bad storm can kill their surge protection and then you'll have to replace it. The Furman protection will basically last "forever" because of the way it's designed to protect itself with multi-stage protection that the others don't have. If you spend decent money on your computer, TV, stereo, etc. then I urge you to spend a couple hundred dollars and protect that gear. It will last AND your audio and video quality will improve too due to the filtering/conditioning. I can't explain it, but you can notice an improvement between plugging into the wall socket or plugging into this Furman. Highly recommended for valuable home electronics and also for gigging musicians to use for their amplifiers, p.a.'s, etc. I now own a number of these.F.t.M.P.
The Furman PL-8C is a welcome addition to my rack unit. Besides having surge protection for the equipment. The 8 extra outlets really cleans up all those wires running everywhere. Plus an extra outlet in front for convenience. The real reason I went with this model was mainly for the extra lighting. 2 pull out lights in front, have a dimmer switch which acts as the on/off control by pushing the dimmer button and turning for brightness. Not super bright but sufficient because it is always so dark in that area. Plus a bonus. There is a BNC connection in the back of the unit for another add on light (not included) to brighten the back of the rack where you need it the most. I will purchase this item again in the future.
I replaced an older model Furman with this unit. Fit in the rack is perfect. The amount of outlets is just what I needed. There is no 60 cycle hum or other power related noised on any circuit plugged into it. These power conditioners are awesome for a rack full of signal processors, amps, or just about anything you want to plug into it. Beautiful build, delivered fast! Lights are nice with a simple "high/off/low" adjustability. Only knock is that I've had some inconsistency with the connectivity of the usb charger on the front…but I don't use it frequently to charge anything so no biggie to me personally. Um…why didn't someone tell me to get one of these years ago? I'm using this to power a guitar amplifier (tube) and some guitar effects. As someone who has played single-coil guitar pickups through noisy tube amps for 35+ years, I had accepted 60-cycle hum and other noise as facts of life. I lived with these "facts" daily while practicing at home, in rehearsal, in the studio and on stages all over the world for years and years. The power in my house is so dirty that I had given up and installed humbucking pickups in my beloved Fender Stratocasters, losing the twangy essence of their sound but allowing me to practice without losing my mind from the 60-cycle hum and other noise. I use this in a home theater setup. It does a great job filtering out grunge in the house AC, and I feel secure in its ability to protect my system even from repeated damaging surges and spikes. Silent passages in the music seem more silent, nuance seems more detailed. Individual voices are better focused and placed more precisely front to back as well as laterally. However, it needs help dealing with noise that digital devices it's protecting put back into the AC; the ground lift switch didn't help. Plugging an Audioprism Quietline into one of the protected outlets, and grounding components that have grounding screws with a separate wire to a protected outlet fixed that problem. I recommend checking results with an Audioprism Noise Sniffer. A set of feet would be nice for those of us who don't want to mount it in a rack. Hockey pucks with double-stick tape on them work well; this thing is heavy!ChazzPiper

I have just installed this power conditioner into my system and the results are as expected: when you power your audio through this large (and heavy!) black box, the music has a wonderful new clarity and deep soundstage. I think it may need some break-in time because I'm hearing just a *touch* of brittleness in my (mostly classical and jazz) music, but I'm pretty sure a couple of weeks will even this out. Until I can justify spending a couple thousand on a super-fancy power conditioner, this is one heck of a deal and it's making my Emotiva CD player and Lavardin IS integrated amp sound incredible!cygilbert

Overall: I use the Furman in my set up that I use to learn songs on guitar. I connect my Hughes & Kettner Tubemeister 18 into my iMac via the RedBox. This set up blows away any amp simulation software. I have definitely noticed an improvement in the clarity of not only my tone, but the music that I'm learning, which I slow down with Transcribe software. Over the studio monitors I don't notice much difference, but with headphones on I can definitely hear the difference. I would definitely recommend this product and consider it an important part of my studio. It looks nice in my rack, it's very simple to use.
