Good Headphones For Guitar Amp For Sale (2024 Update)

This is my first pair of AKG headphones. I was going to purchase a modern pair when I read a review about the K240 Sextett which was so impressive, that I decided to see if I could locate a pair. Having found a used pair on E-bay for a very reasonable price ($79 shipped), decided to purchase them, since I was interested in seeing how well these cans would match up with some of my headphone amplifiers; including a Schiit Magni 3 and Little Dot MK2. First off, the physical condition of these roughly forty year headphones is quite good. And they are well constructed. Moreover, the leather ear pads appear to be original, yet, are in very good shape as are the headphones themselves; the only thing needing replacement here being the tiny rubber bands that allow for the adjustment of the AKGs. A nominal expense. As for the sound, this is a headphone that concentrates on the midrange, and whose clarity here is remarkable. There were three versions of the K240S designated EP, MP and LP for early production, middle production and late production. The earlier K240S has 6 orange colored passive radiators per speaker, and the MP and LP models are said to have white colored passive radiators. The EP version is said to be the most desirable of the three because of its ability to produce strong bass, while the latter two versions are said to be a bit shy in bass. The other attributes of the K240S are said to be similar in all three versions. I am not certain how to distinguish between the latter two models, however, the K240S that I purchased does have white colored passive radiators so it would have to be either the MP or LP version of the K240S. As for my K240S I have noticed the following: The midrange is glorious. The bass of this particular K240S is, surprisingly, *not particularly subtle, while the treble, while good, can become a bit shrill with a solid state headphone amplifier like the Schiit Magni 3 (the Magni 3 has been called a giant slayer and for good reason, since it offers Hi-End audio performance and excellent construction for a pittance -$99). *Some reviewers have claimed that the EP version has excellent bass, while the MP and LP version were lacking in this area. I have used the Magni 3 with several newer headphones from Sony, Grado, Koss, and Sharkk, and found it to work quite well with them. In fact, the Magni 3 is so popular that Schiit is constantly trying to meet the demand for this little gem – which often results in a waiting time of as much three weeks from the time it's ordered on their Website to the time it's shipped.While the Magni 3 did not match up quite to my expectations with the K240S, I've found that the Little Dot MK2 – a singled ended triode design – and the K240S are the proverbial match made in heaven; there is a synergy between these two components which results in a wonderful outcome. The warmth of instruments and voices through this pairing is not only palpable, but it also allows for hours of listening without listener fatigue. Moreover, in spite of its 600 ohm impedance, the AKG K240S is easily driven to very loud levels by the Little Dot, which bespeaks how well these components complement one another. *Of course with headphones one must be very careful not to damage one's hearing, so it is easier to start off with the headphones at a lower volume, and then gradually increase to a volume which is comfortable for you. I could continue to wax poetic about these AKGs, however, that would take away time from my listening sessions and enjoyment of them. So in closing I can say this much: If you can find a pair of Sextetts that are in good shape and being sold at a reasonable price, you might want to consider purchasing them before someone else does. Check E-bay's listing of sold items by typing AKG K240 Sextett into the search area, in order to get an idea of what these headphones are selling for. This way you can get an idea of what they are worth based on their condition, before you decide to bid on or purchase a pair. Keep in mind that relative to other versions of the K240, the Sextett is fairly rare and really is a special piece of Hi-Fi gear that has stood the test of time.camerasrfun

I’m an up and coming audiophile so I’ve been exploring some options for professional work, and I love these! They sound clear, and yeah, they don’t have heaps of base, but the base that is there isn’t crushed together, you can hear the really deep sub-bass, and the top end is awesome! The semi-open back design gives it such a wide sound its simply awesome! The cable is a little long, but it is removable so its not THAT big of a deal, plus the cable is really thick and durable. TLDR; Durable, sounds amazing, good for new audiophiles!Ezra

Very Comfortable like pillows on your head the Sound Quality is Outstanding Destroys any BOSE or Apple Product. they are a little demanding as far as Power is concerned. but the Sound Quality is so good. They are Really good at Blocking out the outside Noise so NO need for noise canceling which i feel hurts sound quality. i give them a solid 9 out of 10. My other Headphones i use to compare to are Meze Audio Classic 99, Grado 325i, and Sennheiser HD600's the only reason for a 9 out of 10 is due to the Power Demands these need to really Sing, and the fact they don't have changeable Cables. While testing i Ran a Creek audio headphone Amp with a Rega Planet CD player. For the Price you CAN'T get a better sounding Headphone. They will work good with any Media player source or as I prefer to use a Fiio BTR5 and make them wireless.zeberia

Build quality is excellent, but points shaved off for the dangling wires that link the cans, and for a permanently linked cable, meaning it will not be a simple job to replace, should it become damaged. The sound is a little flat overall, but still better than the lower end headphones (compared against £40 – £80 Sony, Sennheiser, and AKG’s). This is not an issue with what I wanted, as it’s mainly to edit Voice (Narrating and Voiceovers), and listening to music is still very good, picking up all the range with clarity and depth. Could be better, but not by much. They work well on both my laptop and my studio mixer, which is why I chose the 80Ω version. They block out external sounds, and keep the internal sounds contained, even with the volume is high. Rumour has it that the sound is much better on the 32 and 250Ω versions, and may look at a future purchase of these. The comfort is excellent, and the velour pads are perfect, even when worn for 2 hours at a time. Newegg shipped quickly and it was packaged well. I burned the headphones in for about 30 hours before using them as I always notice a big difference in warmth, mids and lows. I bought these cans as a complement to my Sennheiser HD598, which are in the same price range, since the 598s are slightly lacking in deep bass, even though I use an amp. The Beyers sound good, but not as good as I was hoping. The Beyers definitely have more bass, being closed back, while the Senns are open backed. However, I found them lacking in mids and highs compared to the Senns. And even though they are known to have a large soundstage for closed backed phones, they can't compare to the Sennheiser's soundstage. But what made the final choice for me was the comfort level. Even though both sets weigh about the same, the Beyers felt far heavier for some reason. They also made my ears sweat. So I sent them back. Newegg was great about returning them. For decades I have used MDR 7506, 7509, 7510, and 7520 headphones from Sony. Sony discontinued all but the 7506, and it's too bad because the 7520s were spectacularly accurate, detailed, and reliable in all ways. (I have been a location sound guy for film, a producer, director, and editor for same, and now I record audiobooks. I have spent much time with headphones.) 7506 are a bit of a professional default in broadcasting and film; good price point, dependably rugged to a point, and a sound that you know. (A little like Yamaha NS-10 near field speakers…in other words, nothing stellar, but you know what you are getting.) Having recently been on a hunt for cans to replace my 7520s, (and currently using Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro), and I picked up a set of 7506s after years of not having them, and I have to say they are fine-ish but do not excel in any way. They are good for location sound, they are even good for general music listening and TV viewing, but they are in no way mastering headphones, nor are they good for hours-long voiceover work. I find them reasonably balanced, if a little bass-heavy (good for location work because you can year your problems better), but the upper mids, where your speech is, is super harsh. Like a knife in your ears harsh. There is a really peculiar resonance that just makes it impossible to not be distracted, and to really depend on what you are hearing. While they are, again, a defacto standard in the pro world, they leave a ton to be desired in terms of true accuracy and long term use. I recently tried a series of cans from AKG, Austrian Audio, Sonys I imported from Japan, and 7506s, and they all performed way below the DT770 Pro in accuracy, balance, comfort, and all around performance. Also, over the years, the 7506 ear pads have gotten lower in comfort, so I replaced them right away with other, deeper pads. This does affect the sound, if you choose to go this route. Doesn't make it better or worse, but does make it different and you have to recalibrate your ears and brain to get used to it. So if you buy these knowing what you are getting into, they are a good value, but that is about it.Stephen

Not for listening to music, but for accurately monitoring recordings. The frequency response is as flat as possible, ensuring you are hearing what you recorded with no added low end. However, I still listen to music with them and they suit the purpose perfectly. Overall a solid, classic design. Does exactly what it claims. The only flaw is one that can be avoided – don't rip them off your head and clap the cans together or the foam from the earpieces will wear out and become disconnected from the glue holding them to the cans, and you'll have to reglue them after trying to precisely fit it back. Just be responsible and they will take care of you for many years. I swear by them to the point that I've bought them 3 times, and keep the boxes in my mic cabinet.rgdood12345

I've been using the MDR-7506 Headphones for the last 25+ years, I really love the way they sound. I use them for studio and live applications and they always deliver a clear sound with great definition. I never get tired of their sound. During the last 4 months, I bought the 3 sets of headphones from another brand, the first time it was their 250 ohms version, then I tried the 80, and last the 32 ohms version. I returned all of them within a day of purchase, I guess I really wanted to have those headphones because they look cool and I think I gave them a fair chance (maybe because of their tight isolation of external noise/sound and great soft feel on my ears), but I ended up buying more MDR-7506 instead, maybe I'm an addict to their sound as I used to be to my old Yamaha NS-10 (I had 3 pairs of those). But, since this is a review for the Sony 7506, all I can say is that I will stick to them. I've produced at least 15 albums and 2000+ jingles using them, maybe that's the reason why I love them so much.Hedras Roderico

I recently a BOSS Katana Artist MkII amplifier (which I have reviewed elsewhere) and love it. However, it is somewhat of a pain to connect my phone and studio headphones to it to do a little nighttime jamming – both of those require cables, which makes setup and teardown enough pain that I don't want to do it. When I heard of the WAZA-AIR, I found it is almost exactly a Katana in convenient headphone shape. To be clear, I love this thing. It sounds good enough that I will play it and it is a snap to get started. I traded a Fender Mustang Micro for the WAZA-AIR, and the two are not even in the same ballpark. To be fair, the Mustang is about a third the price, so I'm not surprised, but if you are struggling to get a good sound from a Mustang – and if you have the cash – the WAZA-AIR is likely to do what you need. The software and firmware are…finicky at times. There are a few oddities that I can't explain that differ from the Katana software. For instance, it appears that I cannot use both a Booster and the Modulation at the same time. I don't get that. I can still connect a wireless MIDI controller to the WAZA-AIR, and that might open up more possibilities. It's also another investment, and I'm still trying to determine if being able to hit a pedal is worth it. Overall, I do recommend the WAZA-AIR. It sounds great, the convenience can't be beaten, and it is just very solid and feels right. There are a couple of strange parts that – so far – do not detract enough from the experience for me to try to change them. If you are reading this now, I recommend you give it a try. I am not sure, but I don't think anyone has ever invented this. It's just headphones that connect to your electric guitar wirelessly, right? In fact, I was just thinking of this, before I discovered these on Sam Ash – because i was sitting there, tangled in headphone wires, guitar cables, and I wondered – can't somebody do this wirelessly? So I did a search, and voi la! Here's the other thing – inside the phones, it sounds like outside the phones. In other words, these are not JUST wireless guitar headphones – they are wireless amplifier headphones. The one thing I don't like – and maybe someone knows the answer – but, the controls, through the app, are pretty limited. Or at least, it's not like a amp modeler, like Spark. But then, Spark is not like Amplitube – actually models hundreds of real amplifier setups – from the real world. If the WAZA could pair up with something like Amplitube, it would be over the top.kronikole

I’m still new to the world of high quality headphones and mixing, but I’m very impressed with these. I wanted a neutral pair of headphones as an additional mixing reference. I started with the BD 990 pro, but was unimpressed by the scooped mids and elevated treble. These may work ok for electronic music, but for basic rock, indie etc, they were far too coloured and useless as a reference. I didn’t even find them enjoyable to listen to (I own the closed BD 770’s, and much prefer their sound) The HD600 are so clear… I can hear things in tracks I have previously not been able to. As long as they are driven by something powerful enough, I find the bass response fine for the music I create. Highly recommended 👍Nick G.

A long time ago I had HD 250 Linear headphones, which I remember liking better. You can hear the bass frequencies fine with these, but I like them with more punch. There isn't a lot of isolation. I could still hear knocking at the door in the same room with the volume on medium. I'm pleased with the sound detail and the overall sound quality. I'd agree with any of the positive comments I've read in reviews regarding it. I know I have a good audiophile product. I say they are not comfortable because after listening to about four songs, I feel them squeezing my (thin) head too tightly. I haven't noticed a way to adjust it for that.noctiphile

Love these open back headphones. I find they are not too bassy and give you plenty of detail on the high end – great for hearing instruments you wouldn't normally catch on conventional headphones. Being open backed these are best used in a quiet environment but once you are listening you'll hear details you've never heard before in songs you've played a million times. The packaging is simple and gives you only what you need, however given these headphones are pretty powerful you will want to pick up a DAC to amplify the sound (Fiio are a good brand to take a look at) and maybe a balanced cable to make the most of the sound. The HD600s are a great entry point to audiophile products at an affordable price and will stay good for as long as you look after them! These ATH-M50x don't "exagerate" anything to the point of being distracting and "untrue" to the original source, however they will only be as good as the source you use. It is a very natural sounding, open, listening experience.Theres plenty of punch, warmth and depth, together with detail galore. Every frequency has "space". At no point do these headphones sound restricted or limited. Mid range is clear and smooth and the highs are very pleasent indeed..If you like well balanced, honest sound, suitable for long periods then this is for you. Pls! This is my first headphone of audiophile grade. Before buying ATH-M50X I got all the relevant details from HeadphoneZone gurus. I would suggest that every headphone buyer should first talk to HeadphoneZone guru before making any purchase. Based on your taste of music genre and listening habits they would suggest right headphones. I had confusion between ATH-M50x and DT 770 Pro. It's been more than a month with these cans and I am loving it. In online reviews you might see people suggesting that these can be used without DAC/AMP but that's not true. If you want to unleash the true sound I would really recommend to get a dedicated DAC/AMP. I am using ATH-M50x with iBasso DC03 (also bought from HeadphoneZone) and could really understand the difference and what these cans are capable of. I am using the following combination: Dolby Atmos Music Mode(OnePlus 7T Pro) + EQ tweaking(10 band EQ with 7T Pro) + Audio Technica ATH-M50x + iBasso DC03 + Gaana (Plus/Premium Subscription) and now each of the songs are sounding way more beautiful. I guess since DC03 has dual DAC and that might be the reaon it's so powerful and it doesn't eat up much battery as well. The sound quality isn`t the best, but really good considering no amp is required. It`s great being able to play tracks through the headphones. It has been very useful, as I often work away from home and can practice silently in the hotel room, without having to take my practice amp.Dave T.

While the headphones are built well, portable/foldable, and come with nice accessories (bag, adapter), I found them to be very uncomfortable by the 1 hour mark. Perhaps that's because I wear glasses, so you might want to look elsewhere if that's your case as well. But regardless, I didn't find the sound to be great. Songs that I am familiar with lack the bass and often times, these were no better sounding than the $20 MDR-ZX110 headphones from Sony. I will admit that the headphones are durable and will last much longer than those Sony headphones. The cord length is also incredibly long, which is annoying when you're already near your computer/phone.SuperSmashFM

I'd been using some TASCAM headphones which weren't really made for referencing purposes, and realized I needed a pair that would give me more separation and clarity, while not costing me my first born. These Audio-Technica phones do the trick. Nice balanced sound with decent separation. Immediately was able to tell the difference between them and my Tascams (Not a slight towards TASCAM! I've been a pro live engineer for 35 years. I've owned multiples of the Sony V6's ,7506's, V900s, Sennheiser HD280's, Shure SR440's and have tried countless others. Currently use ATH-M50x but am also going to buy the M70x. However, I previewed these M30x's in a store was immediately impressed by the intelligible but well balanced presentation. Bought a pair on the spot. They don't have the low end oomph of the 50x's which I still use for gigs, but I love them for getting detail out of things and they're excellent for watching movies and casual lower volume listening. One star off as they don't have a coiled cord and the left channel had just perceptibly less presence than the left which hopefully was only that particular pair. I'd have taken them back but was in another city the next day.Stephen E.

These headphones sound so great and very comfortable, I bought two more. The Pro-30 & the Pro-50. I wish I knew about them before I purchased my Beats headset. This OneOdio Headphone Studio Pro-10G has the sound quality of a $200+ headset. I strongly recommend it. I have purchased some cheap headphones in my day. All of them were terrible. I have purchased soem expensive headphones as well, Pioneer, AKG, Sennheiser, and I promise you. THESE ARE BETTER. They have 50mm drivers that just pound. I have not tried using a headphone amp but for 50$ you can buy a tube amp that would make these headphones sound even better. They are comfy, and they come with two cords, that are re-moveable. A feature only offered on high end headphones. And the cable is SO NICE. It even has a bend protector on the cable. very nice! The sound is rich and full, sounds just as good or better than a pair of Beats. using these for Ableton and Serato. BUY THESE. I PROMISE they won't let you down.honestdealsusa

The headphones are good. The customer service is not. I received what I ordered which included a boom mic to be connected to and used with headphones. However, the cord on the boom mic does not fit into the port on the headphones. It is too small. Only one cord in the box fits and it is an extension cord with no volume or mute controls on it.

I have emailed back and forth with their CS, and all I get are replies for more information, which I had already provide in the previous emails. I was then asked for a video of the problem and even with that, I received a reply asking for more information. Extremely frustrating since they only have a foreign number to call.

All I want is a boom mic that fits into my headphones as the picture on the box shows. Apparently, they can’t handle that.Beverly Matthews

I did not get these for their intended purpose DJ'ing. I bought them as an output for a FLAC player (FiiO M11). Initially I tried to use in ear headphones but couldn't get the sound I wanted out of them. These headphones are unbelievable and deliver a beautiful listening experience. Although lightweight & made from plastic, the X-10 is build to last; the metal headband, plastic hinges up to the hex key bolt makes it feel rugged but strong. The sound seems flat at first but while listening more closely, the X-10 quality comes through with incredibly detailed & well balanced sound. The large over the ear cup offer great sound isolation even when the volume is cranked up because you do not feel any pressure within. If you want a headphone for listening in and away from the DJ booth, the X-10 will be the last headphone you will ever purchase.Francisco

Havent had to buy a new set of headphones in at least 10 years but i made the right choice with these. They fit perfectly esp if you have a smaller head, my last two pair (Ultrasone and Sony) were too big. They are extremely well made and sound exactly right; fairly flat not overly bright and excellent bass. Most headphones i have used i need to boost the high or low end or trim up to get the right sound but these sound more true to the source material. They arent cheap by any means but like other Pioneer DJ products i have (PLX 1000 turntable, CDJ 2002 MK 2) they are superb.chilliwinters415

The Pioneer hdj CUE series are a surprisingly well built quality headset. As a Dj for 10 years, I thought I'd add a pair of these to my rather large collection of cans, and I'm very glad I did. These are an incredibly tough low end monitoring headset, so no matter how big or small the venues sound system is, you're going to get precise audio monitoring for whatever genre you mix. No need to crank the cue knob up too much on your mixer either, because these cans are LOUD! Not only are the bass frequencies clean and punchy as mentioned before, but both mid and high eq's are very balanced too. However, these headphones don't come with a 1/4" jack in the box, but they do fit a twist or push on jack perfectly for your dj mixer and audio interface equipment. When you're not having a mix, the CUE1 series offer wireless Bluetooth technology for on the go, cable free listening! Again, in a busy environment, you'll have crystal clear, beautiful audio for all your favourite tunes through no loss of quality wireless Bluetooth. On a side note, I would not recommend these for professional studio mixdowns. Tech lingo aside, you can also change the cable and ear-cup colours too! Comfortable, flexible design will have you wearing these for hours, so don't worry about ear and head discomfort. Don't worry about the 'beginner dj' label, if you're an experienced performer or enjoyed the previous 1000, 700 and 500 series headphones, consider adding these cans to your arsenal!!! 10/10zfoxxentertainment

The headset is robust and well made. Materials are of good quality and construction. Sound quality is very good, although the mic is ok (not good, but not bad.. just OK). It has a bit of bass boost by default (it is not very flat, but not a big problem). It has a major fail: it does not work while charging. For a wireless headset, this is really a point to be fixed. When you plug the charger cable (included), the headset shuts down itself. Particularly, I didn't like JBL QuantumSurround for overall use, but I am aware this is a personal taste. Work well with Bluetooth and 3.5mm cable, although you lost some features doing so. While using the USB RF stick, you can achieve all of them. It also has a great range and I could listen to music even when I leave the PC room and walked through my house. The Noise cancelling feature is good (to be fair, could be a bit better like the Bose's QuiteConfort 35)Guilherme

I splurged and got these on Cyber Monday as a treat for myself during the lockdown. It was my first wireless headset and I wanted to try out a midrange brand to minimize any issues. 10/10 would not recommend. Not only is the sound quality is not as good as I expected (and the materials used are cheap plastics), but they are an absolute nightmare to even use. They require frequent software updates, but the update will often not install correctly and glitch out the headset (just do a cursory google search of this issue). The game/chat balance option has never worked for me and their drivers make it exceedingly hard to swap back and forth from your PC speaker system to the headset. You also can't charge these and use them at the same time – it's a huge pain if you want to go into a long gaming session but forgot to charge them the night before. I don't normally write review, but I want to do everyone who's thinking of buying these a favour: don't buy these unless you're okay with spending several hours a month tinkering with them to make them run properly! If you're looking for an overpriced wired headset, these are fine; if you're looking for a versatile wireless headset, look somewhere else.Leo

Was really excited to get my hands on this gaming headset, the features looked great and JBL are known for great sound quality and for the most part I am not disappointed. PROS: Sound quality is awesome Combining the 7.1 with noise cancelling means that nothing can sneak up on you even with the washing machine going and the kids screaming in the background. The ability to easily adjust the chat to game sound ratio with the dial controls on the headset mean I can drown out the chatter and focus on that crucial point in the game or vice versa. Versatility/Battery I am using the headset to run conference meetings in the day and game in the night and the battery is still going when I decide its bed time but only once I turned off the flashing LED’s on the sides. Colleagues and friends have commented on how clear my voice is in comparison to my old Plantronics RIG 800 gaming headset or my Sony WH1000XM3’s. Ease of setup/use Simply plugging in the wireless dongle asks you to install the software, updating the headset was a bit of a pain though. I didn’t struggle with using Bluetooth on my laptop either although without the software installed the features are limited but the sound is still awesome. Ove being able list the mic arm and it muting, the light showing you that its safe to let off steam The range is really good, I am able to wander the house making a tea, grabbing the washing whilst still chatting away. CONS: Charging if I forget to charge the headset overnight then inevitably the headset starts warning me that the battery is almost gone, not so great when halfway through a presentation and you ask the audience to bear with you while you change headsets or try find the 3.5mm cable. It would have been great if you could charge and use at the same time as you can with a lot of gaming headsets. Unfortunately, this is the main reason for only giving 4 stars. Weight One the one hand the weight of the headset is reassuring as they are very robust. However, as I so frequently get animated when I lose or when my in-game character is assassinated I found that throwing my head back means the headset ends up on the floor. Don’t get me wrong so far they have survived a hammering but it scares my team mates when they hear the loud bang. Hot Ears The ear cups are really comfortable but after wearing them most of the day my ears get a little sweaty, something I didn’t really get with my older headset but noise cancelling isn’t as good as the JBL’s so I can live with the compromise.MrGDH

I recently a BOSS Katana Artist MkII amplifier (which I have reviewed elsewhere) and love it. However, it is somewhat of a pain to connect my phone and studio headphones to it to do a little nighttime jamming – both of those require cables, which makes setup and teardown enough pain that I don't want to do it. When I heard of the WAZA-AIR, I found it is almost exactly a Katana in convenient headphone shape. To be clear, I love this thing. It sounds good enough that I will play it and it is a snap to get started. I traded a Fender Mustang Micro for the WAZA-AIR, and the two are not even in the same ballpark. To be fair, the Mustang is about a third the price, so I'm not surprised, but if you are struggling to get a good sound from a Mustang – and if you have the cash – the WAZA-AIR is likely to do what you need. The software and firmware are…finicky at times. There are a few oddities that I can't explain that differ from the Katana software. For instance, it appears that I cannot use both a Booster and the Modulation at the same time. I don't get that. I can still connect a wireless MIDI controller to the WAZA-AIR, and that might open up more possibilities. It's also another investment, and I'm still trying to determine if being able to hit a pedal is worth it. Overall, I do recommend the WAZA-AIR. It sounds great, the convenience can't be beaten, and it is just very solid and feels right. There are a couple of strange parts that – so far – do not detract enough from the experience for me to try to change them. If you are reading this now, I recommend you give it a try. You'll probably be impressed.Robert

I am not sure, but I don't think anyone has ever invented this. It's just headphones that connect to your electric guitar wirelessly, right? In fact, I was just thinking of this, before I discovered these on Sam Ash – because i was sitting there, tangled in headphone wires, guitar cables, and I wondered – can't somebody do this wirelessly? So I did a search, and voi la! Here's the other thing – inside the phones, it sounds like outside the phones. In other words, these are not JUST wireless guitar headphones – they are wireless amplifier headphones. The one thing I don't like – and maybe someone knows the answer – but, the controls, through the app, are pretty limited. Or at least, it's not like a amp modeler, like Spark. But then, Spark is not like Amplitube – actually models hundreds of real amplifier setups – from the real world. The sound quality is the worse ever , you can barely hear. Then the color is suppose to be "Gold" and it looks silver smh . There a lot of false advertising on these headphones so buyers beware. I think this is one of the worse products I have ever purchased from Shure. I'm very disappointed and think they should remove them from inventory just my opinion . I just bought a couple of these on sale price to add to my early-stage home studio. Overall, I'm pleased with these. I think they're great to throw on each of my band members to lay down tracks. Plenty of low end to keep the drummer and bassist happy, high freqs don't offend, and mids sound good. In fact, I'm not really sure what my issue is with these. However, when I'm mixing and think I have a good sound, I'll compare with a pair of Skull Candy Aviators and Apple Ear pods and find different issues with each. Not huge issues, but usually something to do with the mid to mid-high range. It SEEMS like these color their mid freqs. a tad. I know all headphones are different and it is good practice to often switch between different sets for reference, and it could totally be inexperience on my part as a mixer, but these are the issues I've come across after 20+ hours of use. It is not something that would discourage me from recommending these to fellow home studio dudes and dudettes. Probably not for audiophiles, but if you are one, you're probably not even shopping in this price range to begin with. The pros definitely outweigh the cons with these and at the price I got them, I couldn't be happier.J. Flores

Meh … but, shoot, what should one expect for such a low price? While these cans are fairly lightweight, they are fairly well built, overall. Comfortable, with little or no "microphonic" distractions (meaning one does not hear noise from the cable or headband or earphone receiver cups – as occurs so often on inexpensive headphones.) Cable is lightweight and does not feel as durable as the rest of the unit. Headband copies many other headphones, such as the venerable SONY 7506 and some Audio-Technica studio monitors – and is just OK (no complaint, but nothing special,either). Sound signature is dark, muffled, and lacking detail. Mid range and treble frequencies are subdued and dull. Bass is muddy and lacks punch, and disappointing overall. But, this is what one USUALLY expects and gets at this price point. In contrast, the similarly priced Takstar HD-2000 has a far cleaner, more open, and detailed audio profile, and Superlux HD-661 andHD-672 for an additional ten to fifteen buckaroos are WAY more open, clear, clean, punchy, and neutral – i.e., accurate – and represent a huge bargain among affordable headphones. Similarly the JVC HRA-R700 are a much more substantial product with far superior sound, close to the Superlux, (which I think are the current performance value leaders in this market segment. Therefore, while the Musician's Gear headphones are … um … just OK … they ARE, ultimately, worth what you pay for them. I guess. I will probably give these away to someone without any headphones. I rate them 3 stars because they are just average, ordinary cans for the price – as I think there are better alternatives for the same or just a little more of your hard earned brass. And this is just MY take – your mileage may vary.TT

GREAT HEADPHONES for GREAT PRICE! ~ Took a little bit of time to arrive, but well worth the wait. – IMPORTANT NOTE: I destroyed my headphones by trying to splice the wire in-order to shorten them, the cord is quite long…, but, when I cut the cord, it was Impossible to re-connect they barely have any insulation between the wires, I ended up buying another pair. Don't buy these if you are looking for studio headphones. I thought for the price they would be great for mixing but that is just not the case. very "airy" and "ambient" sounding. fine if your listening to your ipod and other music, i suppose.. but awful for making your recordings and mixes sound perfect. very comfortable, look amazing, and have a good sound, but just don't get the job done in the studio.Hollywood

Very Comfortable like pillows on your head the Sound Quality is Outstanding Destroys any BOSE or Apple Product. they are a little demanding as far as Power is concerned. but the Sound Quality is so good. They are Really good at Blocking out the outside Noise so NO need for noise canceling which i feel hurts sound quality. i give them a solid 9 out of 10. My other Headphones i use to compare to are Meze Audio Classic 99, Grado 325i, and Sennheiser HD600's the only reason for a 9 out of 10 is due to the Power Demands these need to really Sing, and the fact they don't have changeable Cables. While testing i Ran a Creek audio headphone Amp with a Rega Planet CD player. For the Price you CAN'T get a better sounding Headphone. They will work good with any Media player source or as I prefer to use a Fiio BTR5 and make them wireless.zeberia

Build quality is excellent, but points shaved off for the dangling wires that link the cans, and for a permanently linked cable, meaning it will not be a simple job to replace, should it become damaged. The sound is a little flat overall, but still better than the lower end headphones (compared against £40 – £80 Sony, Sennheiser, and AKG’s). This is not an issue with what I wanted, as it’s mainly to edit Voice (Narrating and Voiceovers), and listening to music is still very good, picking up all the range with clarity and depth. Could be better, but not by much. They work well on both my laptop and my studio mixer, which is why I chose the 80Ω version. They block out external sounds, and keep the internal sounds contained, even with the volume is high. Rumour has it that the sound is much better on the 32 and 250Ω versions, and may look at a future purchase of these. The comfort is excellent, and the velour pads are perfect, even when worn for 2 hours at a time. Studiospares provided an excellent price and service, and have other high quality products that range from competitive to excellent value for money.George K.

Newegg shipped quickly and it was packaged well. I burned the headphones in for about 30 hours before using them as I always notice a big difference in warmth, mids and lows. I bought these cans as a complement to my Sennheiser HD598, which are in the same price range, since the 598s are slightly lacking in deep bass, even though I use an amp. The Beyers sound good, but not as good as I was hoping. The Beyers definitely have more bass, being closed back, while the Senns are open backed. However, I found them lacking in mids and highs compared to the Senns. And even though they are known to have a large soundstage for closed backed phones, they can't compare to the Sennheiser's soundstage. But what made the final choice for me was the comfort level. Even though both sets weigh about the same, the Beyers felt far heavier for some reason. They also made my ears sweat. So I sent them back. Newegg was great about returning them. Just got these today after 2 months for shipping, likely from back-ordering. The very first thing I listened to on these literally stopped me dead. I was absolutely floored by how good these sounded just out of my phone for how much they cost me. I’ve been throwing every kind of music I can at them over the last few hours, and everything just sounds great out of them. The bass is surprisingly strong and in your face, but somehow everything is still pleasantly balanced and clear. I knew these would sound good and feel good, but I was never expecting THIS level of performance for something that cost less than a nice dinner for 2, and that is often regarded as a “throw away” headphone. They’re definitely called that because they’re inexpensive, but you know that you’ll be going right back and buying another pair if anything happens to them. My first pair of headphones that fits the pure vibe that these headphones give me. I had a pair of these back in the 90s and loved them; I'm so glad I decided to revisit this old classic. They aren't going to replace my Beyerdynamic DT880s for mixing, but their sound has a certain "something" to it that is just, well, /fun/! They are lightweight, comfortable, and cheap enough to toss in my backpack without worry. The way they fold up neatly to fit into their pouch is clever and means they are less likely to get tangled up in the rest of the crap in my bag. In short: these are not high-end cans but they are comfortable, sound good, and are simply enjoyable to use; there's a reason they've persisted virtually unchanged for over 35 years. If I had any complaints: the cord is a bit short, and I'd prefer a multi-button remote, but really for $38 that's a _minor_ nitpick. Also, the updated cable strain relief at the jack is excellent, but there is no strain relief on the cable at the headphone end; time will tell if this is a weak point. Overall, I love these so much I may buy another for a backup. Oh, and Koss support is legendary, even for inexpensive products like this. It's kind of a no-brainer at this price.dhwn

Like the KPH30i, these could also be the headphone to end all headphone wars if these had detachable cables and were built with materials that cost more than $1.50 Koss makes the most frustrating products from my perspective. On the one hand, they clearly know good to great sound and how to build small speaker units to deliver it. But almost everything else about Koss spells cheap and nasty. The Porta Pros are no exception. Made from cheap plastic and a small sliver of metal that could bend/break with the slightest lack of care and cables that are thinner than vermicelli, the overall experience is part ecstasy (sound) and part agony (build). I understand price sensitivity, but perhaps split the same product into a lite and pro version, one made cheaply for college kids and the other for people willing to spend more? For $40 odd, these are fine, but I wish these were $100 and built twice as well. They would still compete with $200 headphones on sound.entreprenerd
