I recently had some repair work done on my 79 Peavey T-60 and the tech recommended these. I haven't played my T in years, and back when I did, it was in my garage band where we cranked out a lot of Zeppelin and Hendrix stuff. The T-60 offers coil splitting via the tone knobs. At 10, you get single coil. Below that, you get a variety of full humbucker tones. It has a 25.5 inch scale. It's a perfect cross between a classic Fender Strat and a Gibson Les Paul, with some Telecaster tossed in on the neck pickup. I'm finding this time around with the T that I'm really enjoying the clean tones I'm getting, playing through a Fender Princeton Reverb Reissue, as well as playing through an overdrive pedal (to get some dirt without scaring the dogs out of the room). I'm never sure with strings how much is sales talk and how much is legit technical merit, but I am finding I am enjoying the feel and the variety of tones I'm getting – single coil or bucker – from myT with these strings. I've got about six hours play wear on them so far, and there is no visible discoloration so I'm thinking they should last as long as they claim, to justify the price, which is the only reason I don't give them 5 stars. If they do last a good while, I will come back and update my rating. So far, I am happy.William in Carrollton
Have almost every string. Have a new Eastman t486, 335 clone, that has not sounded right with other strings. Latest we're Tite Fit 10s but they were muddy on this git. The Gibson Vintage 10s are full, smooth with great overtones. Very musical strings. They also allowed me to lower the action to spec without buzzing. I have tried many other strings but have found none that can equal these Gibson reissue pure nickel. I have tried D'Addario, Ernie Ball, and others but these are the best sounding strings i have ever used hands down! I LOVE these strings. I have about 5 sets of Ernie Ball regulars in my guitar case but they will remain there and never get on my guitar. Why? These Gibson's are SUPERIOR and literally sound 5 times better than any other string in my opinion. I can't get over how good they sound. I know I am over the top here but to me they are that good. They have a deeper full beautiful tone and they stay in tune better and they just make my guitar sound so good. I am hooked on these strings. I just ordered 4 sets as I am scared as hell that they will discontinue them for some reason. (notice they are REISSUE). I found out Malcom Young used Gibson strings (heavier gauge than these though) and that says it for me. I consider Malcom Young to have been a very good judge of guitar strings. NO they help anchor the string, they help to prevent slippage of the windings and they look fantastic. These strings are not cheap but you do get what you pay for. They sound great and have a high degree of corrosion resistance – I have never broken one. Apart from my Strats and my Tele I use these strings on all other guitars. If you have a guitar costing hundreds if not thousands of pounds why would you put cheap strings on it? They are getting very rare so buy a set now and try them.cerieds1957

For the new guys like me who are tired of having a crummy sounding guitar but not knowing what to do about it …try these strings! I'm running an epiphone sg with gibson burstbuckers through a fender tube amp…not a bad situation but still couldn't get an appealling sound. Was looking at replacing the epihone with a new gibson or the fender with a marshall but thought I would try these strings first as they had such good reviews and don't cost anywhere near as much as a new guitar or amp…bye bye gibson/marshall (for now)! I've tried various sets of strings in the past. Of which, some were clearly more appealling than others but none clearly stood out or improved the sound of the guitar all that much. These gibson strings are a different story though….clear, powerful, slick….and cheap. So if you're new like I am and having trouble getting your guitar to get a good rock/metal sound, give these strings a try.
These strings sound and play great! However, they just aren't for me. The strings faithfully capture a classic Gibson-like humbucker tone. The problem is, I play Kramer and Fender super-Strats! I just purchased a Les Paul Studio with these on them. I USED to play strictly Elixirs and nothing else. I assumed the strings on my LP were old, so I replaced them with the only strings I had on hand which where Elixir .09's (I use them on my Strats). Anyways, I was very disappointed. The LP obv still sounded amazing, but was missing some of that LP Growl. I quickly went and bought these and I am happy to say the LP is back to barking. I build guitars and buy these for setups period. I have tried to use these on one occasion just for kicks but found the tension all wrong. Not so much on the wound strings as the unwound upper strings. I found the tension and feel really poor. At first I was a little angry that the strings they put on were expensive and not the set of D'Addarrios that I left for them. However when I played the guitar I was really amazed at how nice they sounded. Just nice clear balanced jangle that stayed in tune well (though credit must be given to the the tech for some of this). I like D'Addarios and still use them on a couple guitars. These Gibsons are expensive but I will get a few sets to use at some important gigs and when I do some recording. These clearly sounded better to me than the D'Addarios and Dean Markleys that I'm used to. Richer cleaner tones. I like to change strings often and so I hate to pay a lot for strings but this is a case where I will pay up extra to get the best sound when I really need it.Mike
The gibson brite wires "customs" use lower gauge strings for D, B, and E. Although this did brighten up the tone of my les paul, the lower three strings lose a lot of their sound for soloing, especially while performing bends high up on the neck. However, they did brighten up the tone, and made playing bar chords much easier on the fat gibson neck. Still a quality gibson product, but I would not recommend the customs for this series of strings.Anonymous

If you have an electric guitar or a 12 string acoustic, you will want to have a package of .009 extra light loose strings in your drawer. The can break occasionally and with some loose strings available, you can replace the broken .009's with a spare. These are good quality. Don't get caught without spares!gnm109
