Great guitar. Nicely set up. Intonation good, finish really good for that price range. Consider spending a fresh set of strings and invest a little in polish for the frets right away and you'll be fine. Tuners do their job well but could work a little smoother. This bass is a great way to get that vintage Fender VI sound without breaking the bank, but it will take a little effort to fix the biggest flaw…the floating bridge. The intonation on these is notoriously difficult to set up properly because the saddles, particularly the low E, can't be moved back far enough without the string buzzing on the end of the screw. Some people replace the the screws or even dremel them off. A simpler alternative is to simply loosen or remove the strings, pull the bridge out, and put it back in turned around so that the screws face the picukps. There are a lot of complaints about keeping the strings tuned properly when using the tremolo. If you don't plan on using the trem, the best thing to do is fix the bridge by adding a collar around the posts to make for a snug fit-there are a number of videos on YouTube showing how to do this. Once you've gotten this out of the way, you'll have yourself a great way to get that Cure cover band off the ground.vonmulch

For a budget bass, the Squier VM Jaguer SS is surprisingly good. Mine was good right out of the box. The action was good, just needed tuning, and I was good to go. Even with the "cheaper", non-Duncan designed pickups that are available on the full-scale model, the sound is surprinsingly good. I really like the P&J p/u configuration. Much better than it's muddy-sounding main competitor, the Epiphone EBO (I had one). If the EB-3 was available in a SS model, the Epi would give the Jag SS a real run for it's money. Both SS's are an absolute blast to play. If you like a thin neck, this bass is for you. It's much more like a guitar then a bass. For me, there is no easier playing bass. But if you love the neck on a big old Fender P, then it probably won't be. Quality is very good too, considering the price. Don't let the Squier name scare you away. It's much better than an Affinity I played quite awhile ago. I'd say it's closer in quality to a MIM model, but not quite as good (a bass 3x the price!). Don't get me wrong, if you are a "serious" player who is gigging every weekend, and have the money for a more expensive bass, this would not be your main axe, that's for sure. For example, I had the MIJ Fender Deluxe Jaguar, and you can certainly feel and hear the difference in quality. Too bad that model isn't offered in a SS. However, if you happen to be low on cash, are a novice, have small hands, or are a converted guitar player, the VM Jag SS is a very capable gigging bass.Hardrockn

Squier has come a long way of real lame feeling, poor quality, and cheap pickups. The first thing I noticed right off the bat out of the box is that it was perfectly set up. Maybe toward the 12th fret down the frets might have a little bit of an edge but unless your a cry baby, this wouldnt bother you haha. Next, the pickups are pretty good considering you just bought a squier. It sounds pretty good with both on, and the bridge pickup is very musicman like when it comes to treble. The pbass pickup it'snt amazing but it sounds like a traditional pbass but without much body. The eletronics are what make or break this instrument. You have a volume for each pickup and a master tone. But the Bass Boost knob makes any "thin" sound you might experience into the house shaking from a full tone bass. Adjusting your eq as needed to have the mids stand out a little more and everyone can hear you loud and clear with the best tone you can get from this instrument. The Body is basswood, and coming from only using mahogany, it sounds kinda "brighter" as opposed to the dark sounding mahogany instruments. It's also not as heavy as other 5 string IMO. I personally replaced the pbass style pickup and added a delano one (required filing the pickguard) and play at Eb standard. My only complaint is that the human ear can only hear a note so much, so an open B string will have the note kinda "fall out". I use the B string at the 5th fret to have more notes to play in a given time. I recommend this bassradicalsurge

I'll never see 70 again, and I finally got me a bass. When I was giggin' back in the stone age with a three piece band i jumped back and forth between lead and bass lines on my 6 string with the aid of a bass booster pedal. My dream was a bass/6 string double neck ax, but at the time I could buy a new car for the price of one of those. Then I managed to get the index finger on my left hand shattered. Only cure was to fuse all the joints so it wouldn't bend at all, and now the only thing it's good for is barre cords. I could still play lead and chords with a little practice, but a standard base was out of the question. The price was right so I thought I'd give one of these short scale jobs a try. Yeah, I know, the Squires have a bad rap with a lot of folk, but this is my third one (strat, tele) and for the price I haven't had much to complain about. For my very first bass, right out of the box, I was totally impressed. Plugged her in, tuned her up, and ran the scales all the way from the nut to the 17th fret with no fret buzz or water to wade in; set up was perfect. A little string squeak at first, but that soon disappeared. Tried every bass line I ever knew and had no trouble with only three fingers on my left hand. The controls on the guitar are rather limited, but with my amp (Fender rumble 15) and it's EQ and overdrive features I've got just about everything I need – 50's and 60's rock and country – and can throw in a little heavy metal if needed. I'm thinking that this baby would be perfect for a young persons first bass, or for anyone with short fingers or like me missing a finger, or arthritis, whatever. I am sure having a lot of fun with it. I work in a 11 x 11 foot room , so the strings needed a little damping – a couple of my grand daughters hair ties fixed that in no time. Overall: I bought this after seeing some online videos and I'm glad I did. Playing on a short scale is infinitely easier on the fingers than playing a standard scale base. Throw in 6 strings that use standard guitar tuning and you get some incredible tonal opportunities. The fact that you can play guitar chords with pretty much ease, is amazing. With that said, you are playing on a uniquely thin neck (its comparable to a standard guitar) that can be tricky playing the Low E string. The Low E string is virtually on the edge of the fret board. Do a fast pass and you really need to come straight down on the string. Any angle, and you will likely fret out. One downside worth noting is that the bridge has no height adjustment. I understand there are after market bridges that are much better, but it would have been nice to have that basic feature available. Interesting choice for pickup selection. One switch for each pickup. The forth switch is "Bass Strangle Circuit" takes some of the Low end out for smoother medium bass tone response. All in all, its very fun to play and inspiring, but you may need to adapt your play style a bit to accommodate it.Richard

On first inspection, the bass looked great, but when I first plugged it in I noticed that the jack socket wouldn't hold the cable securely. Bending the pin didn't resolve it so I had to replace the socket with a sturdier Switchcraft one, which was easy to do but shouldn't be an issue on a brand new instrument. Having had it for a couple of weeks, I've noticed a minor imperfection in the finish near the trem. It looks as though the finish isn't completely flat under the clear coat, but is only visible in certain light, so it wasn't immediately obvious. I've also found gaps around two of the inlays on the fretboard. The cut out in the pickguard around the switch plate is a bit rough around the edges. All minor things but Squier's QC could be better. The stock strings are awful; they're far too light to handle the tuning, especially the low E. It's generally accepted that they need to be replaced to get the best out of it, but it's pretty annoying, especially when Fender makes a set of Bass VI strings in the right gauge. For all the minor annoyances, I do like the Bass VI. It's great to play once it gets a decent set-up and sounds good too.Reviewed by Andertons Music Co.

Love it. If your looking for a plug and play this works. There is quite a following on these and tons of knowledge available. There are somethings that need to be addressed because of the design of these so be prepared to do a bit of modding. I have purchased a hardtail plate to sub out the tremolo. This is a dream come true. I've been playing guitar for 50+ years and have always heard about Short Scale (SS) basses that were very well suited for guitarists who want to play bass. This is a great value. I got the Performer Pak that included the $39 gig bag for only $10 additional. What a Deal!! I purchased the Squier ss Jaguar because I'm a short scale addict and the price was right. I had to make the full gamut of usual adjustments out of the box, and the bass plays just fine now. Stock strings weren't my style; even with a string change and some height adjustment, it''s difficult to get a full sound out of the pickups. I had to really crank the mids on my amp to simultaneously get some definition and oomph. Still, I'll have a lot of fun breaking it in over the next month. I like the flamboyant silver finish and painted headstock; fretwork feels fine, and it sits comfortably (maybe the slightest bit of neck dive) with a wide leather strap. The bass didn't wow me as an instrument outperforming it's price range, but, with a sale price or coupon, it's a good short scale choice for a minimal budget.Michael

Out side of the shipping box being heavily damaged due to poor boxing up causing it to show up opened and crushed , fortunatly the guitar made it appearing so far undamaged, Time will tell on that. As far as the bass itself I was impressed by the quality , the finish, the playability and the fact it did not seem to need a set up. I tuned it , checked its intonation and was off to the races as they say. I recorded a song with it and was impressed by its sound and the overall characteristics of this bass. I have many basses in my arsenal as well as friend bass players who have tons of basses that we use to play out with and record songs. I will say this bass stacks up against most of them having one of my friend bass players marvel at the cost of this bass and the fact that he himself had to dive deep to find anything he could thumb his nose at. His comments to me after the search. OMG . In the long run I had planned to replace the stock pick ups but after hearing them I will reserve that thought till I know this bass better over time. The volume and tone pots maybe could have been better at making fine adjustments but again normally I set it and forget it so here again I will wait till I know this bass better before deciding if I have to upgrade them. Nut and tuners shocked me at this price point > I see no reason to even bother changing them now or in the future. Time will tell but for the price you cannot make a mistake here..Bigangbo

About 2 years ago I had been looking for a bass to start learning and practicing with. I carefully sifted through the ones on this website to see which one I'd prefer the most. I ended up going with this one in sunburst and it's been a great choice. Playing on precision pickups give a nice sound almost like a professional bass depending on how good your technique is. The jazz pickup sounds punchy and gives decent tone, not as great as the other one but gives you an idea on how a jazz bass sounds when you start learning. it's a good pj configuration for beginners and you're hearing two different types of sound, how awesome is that for someone starting to pick up a bass! Eventually the high G string gave me fret buzz but at that point I already knew how to adjust the saddle and found that's what was causing it. All in all though this is a great bass and I would never go back on thisBrett

Had to send first one back for having a bubble in the poly finish on the of the neck by the nut. The second one was perfect…other than frets being a tad sharper at the ends than I prefer, but a little filling took care of it. Most of these Indonesian Squier guitar's and bass's that I've bought don't have sharp ends. Anyhow, was worth it for the sound, feel, and look of this Lake Placid Blue bass. I put a white pickguard on it. PJ pickups on a bass, to me is the best of both worlds. I can slap, finger, or pick and get most any sound I want.mv

I bought this because I have always been a big fan of the Mustang and Jaguar short scale basses. I am a guitarist and song writer and I have somewhat smaller hands, so I needed a comfortable bass that I could play for session gigs and our own recording. I own a fully modded Fender Telecast but I wasn't looking to spend fender money on a bass just yet. In the last few years Squire has really turned up the production, the bass has good weight, a very smooth and comfortable neck and fret board. Some people on here have talked about fret buzz, part of that has to do with how hard you play it, you'll get buzz on a full grown Pbass or a gibson Firebird if you play too hard, turn up the amp, turn down the fingers, lol. My only caveat, which I didn't count against my rating, is that the electronics are very introductory. The Pbass pickups are nice and fat, round and dynamic, but the Jazz pick up in the bridge leave more to be desired. Along those lines, the bass uses 250k pots. If you like the bass but want a little more, I found the replacement Seymour Duncan set online for 140 add 3 new 500k pots to that and you'll probably have ONE HECK OF A BASS. (this is what I'll be doing in the next month or so)Danny P

The biggest draw to this bass for me was the fact this bass has 20 frets. There aren't a ton of short scale basses available, let alone short scale basses with 20 frets. The last time I owned a short scale bass was probably 12 years or so ago, so I was pretty excited to give this bass a try when I finally got around to ordering it. I had never actually played one of these Jaguars, and since it based off the price, I was pretty nervous about the quality of it. Once the instrument arrived and I set it up, my fears were put to rest. Squier makes some great instruments, especially considering the price. The action is a tad high, but it isn't too bad. The split pickup sounds acceptable, but the bridge pickup is a little weak. I'm planning on replacing the bridge pickup for sure, but I might leave the precision pickup in there. I've replaced the pots with CTS pots, and replaced the cap with an Orange Drop. I also replaced the bridge with just a standard Fender Precision/Jazz bridge. The saddles on Squier passes are pretty horrible, and brass saddles can have a huge effect on the tone. The neck feels pretty great. The nut is the same width as a Jazz Bass, but since the Jaguar is a short scale, it ends up being thinner overall. For someone who prefers the comfort of a Precision Bass neck compared to a Jazz Bass neck's playability, this could be considered a bad thing. Overall, this bass is a great deal. Mine seems to be pretty much flawless, but even if it had a handful of flaws, it'd be hard to complain about them considering the price.Dan

The Squier Bronco Bass delivers exactly what I expected. It's a 30" scale bass with a body shaped like the Fender Mustang bass; it has a single pickup (I believe it's a strat pickup), is fairly light weight (mine weighs in a 7 pounds 10 ounces), and it's a fun little axe. It's also the lowest-priced bass by an actual musical instrument company. How do they keep the price down? One way is that this is the only bass I've owned that has no fingerboard. It doesn't affect anything, but the front of the neck IS the fingerboard. The hardware is okay quality. But here's the thing – it sounds decent, feels great, plays well. There's going to be a little luck of the draw in a lower priced instrument, but my tuners stay in tune, intonation was on, everything is good. There was a little too much neck relief, but that was easy to adjust. If you're realistic about your expectations, the Squier Bronco Bass is an awesome value, looks good, and it gets you playing. It's not going to sound like a Stingray or a Geddy Lee Jazz Bass, but it doesn't sound bad, either – I would do a show with one without worrying about it. I have other basses, but wanted to add an inexpensive short scale to my stable, and this bass was exactly what I wanted. I may upgrade the pickup later – I may not. For now, it falls between my 34" scale and 28.6" scale basses, and it's fun to play. I'm very happy with it.Pcake

I ended up using this bass for songs where long scale can be a bit difficult. My main bass is an imported '54 P Bass copy, Alder body and maple neck/fingerboard. It had to go into a local shop for some major nut repair, and I needed something to play around with. Off the rack, it was a pretty great bass for the price. The neck is very well crafted, no sharp fret edges like some imported instruments. It's an agathis body, so the tone can be kind of bland, but compared to older Squier Broncos, it seems that all of the bridge and neck contact one piece of wood on the multi-piece construction, so sustain isn't too bad. The bad: The tuners are pretty sorry and are an oddball size, which makes replacement with good tuners very difficult. My E and A tuners rattle some, but all four do hold tune pretty well for cheap tuners. Also, the stock pickup is a six-pole ceramic Strat pickup, so it can sound…odd when bending strings. The other bad is the bridge: although it intonates pretty well, two saddles can make proper intonation difficult to achieve along with proper radius. Also, the bridge mounting pattern is almost impossible to replace with another bridge–four hole lock-down and quick-release style bridges DO work, but the bridge is mounted a little too far forward, and intonation is almost always sharp on the upper end of the fingerboard. Gotoh 201's are also very difficult to adapt to fit. But for its price point, some of these cons are easily fixed. I have a Mojotone Alnico V lipstick Strat pickup in mine with CTS 500K pots. It sounds excellent–it fools some of my buddies about how cheap it is. This bass could probably also benefit from a bar retainer near the nut. It went from an around the house beater to a mainstay for certain songs.Isher

my dad, a professional and extremely experienced bass guitarist, bought me this for christmas last year, and i love it. this is the first bass i've ever picked up and it's easy to play, is well built, has a nice feel to it, etc. i highly recommend it for beginners. i play it in my school band class and it fits in very well with the rest of the instruments. however it can fall out of tune easily and the pickup isn't the best, but ultimately it's the most perfect beginner bassout there, especially for the low price, it's high qualityace

Overall, this is a good guitar. I'm having a good time with it, the neck is comfortable, the pickups sound really good and handle high-ish gain surprisingly well, and the color (I got the Daphne blue) looks incredible. Taken as a whole, if you're in the market for a Jazzmaster with all the classic JM features but don't have a ton of money to spend, I'd recommend it for sure. If you're going to buy it though, just be aware of a few things… 1.) It'll need a setup. Out of the box, the tuning stability was fine but once I used the vibrato a little bit, it went way out. The action wasn't bad but could be better and the neck may need a half degree shim. I'm probably going to end up putting a Fender AVRI vibrato on it eventually but a decent setup should make the stock one perfectly usable. 2.) It needs a good cleaning. This could very well just be the specific one that I got but the neck and headstock had a lot of dust and a slightly cloudy residue on them, the fretboard was very dry, and the frets were scratchy. None of these were anything that a little lemon oil, fretboard conditioner, a microfiber cloth, and some 0000 steel wool couldn't take care of but it's still something to be aware of. Note though that, while the frets were scratchy, their weren't any sharp fret ends. 3.) It probably isn't a great first guitar. I've seen this said a few times in other reviews and I completely agree. That's not to say that it isn't a good guitar because it is. More that it's not the most user-friendly instrument right away and could be off-putting to a beginner. A pro setup will do it a world of good and make it much easier to play but if you're in the market for a first guitar, look elsewhere. Am I glad I bought it? Yes. I mean, it's a Daphne blue Jazzmaster with a comfortable neck and awesome pickups! I don't mind working on my guitars a bit though, so none of the problems I talked about above bother me in particular. However, if you're looking for a plug-in-and-play guitar right out of the box, this one might not be for you.Jackson

I waiting on this on backordered for a few months (shell pink) and started to worry after looking at a bunch of YouTube reviews. Action, fret ends and leveling were great out of the box (which I really am not up for fixing; esp on a bound fingerboard). Frets could prob use a polish, but that's a lesser concern to me. No shim needed with 09s so far. I feel like recent shipments corrected some of the common complaints of this line… YMMV. I think the the nut is pinching a bit and the trem pivot is jumping a bit so I might go in and see if I can smooth it out. Pickups are microphonic under gains and comp… and I'm not sure if they are RWRP yet. One of the reason I went with MF is that if I wasn't satisfied I could go right into GC and trade towards and CV Jazzmaster. But overall pretty satisfied and think this will be a good first offset and short scale add to the collection.David

I want to love this guitar. Unfortunately however, I will have to be taking this one to a luthier to be set-up due to the neck. Everything for the most part is beautiful, it's a Jazzmaster. Fantastic dark, spanky jazzmaster tones, beautiful tortoise-shell guard, and the very eye-catching very elusive shell pink finish. Switches all seem to be in working order, though due to the position of the neck pickup to the strings right out of the box, the rhythm circuit will be noticeably quieter. Easy fix. I am unsure about the stability of the bridge, which is a Mustang bridge- a HUGE improvement, as I've seen in other reviews that the screwposts loosen by vibration. Vibrato does not return to tune. There is a very strange, unclean grime of some sort on the metal plate of the vibrato piece. I was unfortunate enough to receive a poorly conditioned neck, with glue residue left behind surrounding the tuning pegs on the face of the headstock. The lacquer finish is beautiful and is fine to play on. The fretboard is noticeably dry as well as the frets are unfinished, both feeling scratchy, and the frets being too rough to perform clean bends on. Not sure if it's the neck, the frets, or the bridge piece, or any of the three in combination that is causing the strings to be unable to bend even a half note without losing vibration, or being pinched off. Fret markers are a dark, cheap pearl. Overall, the fretboard itself just feels like Squier Affinity line quality. My impression is that most of the cost of this guitar- to keep it in line with the technologically cheaper instruments (telecaster the same price as a jazz, etc)- went into the body finish, and electronics. However, in the end I still love this thing and cannot wait to hear it sing once I get it set-up.Tyler

For the life of me I can't understand how the bass vi spent so much time in the shadows of obscurity. This is the most useful bass I've ever played: in the right hands it fills the gap in the chordal range that usually is missing between guitar & bass. I'm talking about chords usually reserved for the piano. Its just amazing to open up this end of the spectrum. As a straight bass the low end is all the way there, guitar players should be advised: you can definitely blow out your guitar amp with this thing. It is a bass and can cover all of the bass's traditional roles. The cons: it is a Squier so dont expect the cleanest finish. Mine came with some irregularites in the neck finish but the neck is straight and it played pretty well right out of the box. The binding on the neck is a little sloppy but minor and purely cosmetic. My volume pot came jacked & only useful for the last quarter turn but thats an easy fix. PUPs sound better than I expected and dont need to be upgraded. I will replace the bridge before anything else. All in all for the money you cant beat this instrument. Stoked Squier made this instrument affordable with the classic jazzmaster/ jag looks.Lazybullet

The Squier Bass VI materials and workmanship are excellent, its sound is clear, strong and extremely variable. It plays great, feels good to hold and while covering anything a regular bass can do, offers an upper extension even to chording. Personal setup is quick and easy. The supplied .024-.084 round wound strings sound and play well though the E6 can be a bit slappy and requires a bit of finesse to master cleanly. However, LaBella offers custom round wound and .026-.095 flat wound sets and the neck responds well to truss rod adjustments so the bass is not a one trick pony nor limited in usefulness. The only conundrum concerns installing the Trem Arm. There is no user guide in print or online to describe its installation. It doesn't screw in and no matter how hard pushed into its collar, it just won't fit into the internal collet. So far, query to Fender has been acknowledged but unanswered, but they do have a toll-free support line which is the next course of action. As one experienced with vintage American Jaguars and knowledgeable of these Trem Systems and Fender in general, I find this unusual but just a bump on the road to sonic bliss. This is an incredible deal on a vintage type reissue of the Fender VI and overall, as well as in all the usual specific respects, the instrument is excellent and of the highest order.Larz

Opened and found a beautiful instrument that played pretty well before set up. All finishes were good with the exception of a slightly noticeable marking on the lower body(mine is white). BUT, this instrument is so well made otherwise, it's not worth complaining about. I performed a slight neck adjustment that was easy to perform. Neck finger board action is great. Tone is where instrument really shines. It has three pickups and with the combinations, the sounds are varied and complex. There is a forth switch which changes the bass dynamics keeping the tones brighter for a very haunting sound. I'm primarily a guitar player that uses drop "D" for tune choices. This new guitar gives me all the other creative choices I wished for further expanding my playing options. The only complaint I have is the Fender bass case that was recommended by MF that I purchased that can not be used with this guitar as it had a molded interior that prevents the guitar from fitting inside at all. MF needs to know their product better before making such a recommendation. I am confident MF will get me the proper hard shell case for it since Fender is now advertising one specifically for it. I play at home and at church. It has that jazz bass sound that I love! The feeel of the neck is great. The highs are not overwhelming and the bottom end is not muddy. It is very responsive. I love this bass! The looks of the burst are stunning and the Jaguar body is so cool! I love having both types of pickups, very versatile. The thing that got me was the boost circuit. What should've been a way to get a little more OOMPH turned into a noisy nightmare, it never sounded quite right engaged or not, so I decided to open her up and tear the boost circuit out and replace the pot with the output jack. YES! What a difference! Who thought it was a good idea to put the jack on the edge of the body? Straight cables stick out and get whacked, right angled cables twist, it makes no sense to me. If you think the boost is just eh, DO LIKE ME. P pickup is awesome and punchy, jazz pickup is a little noisy. Planning to replace with a Seymour Duncan set.Dr. Scruggs

I have an American Standard Fender Jaguar bass, and while this isn't quite on that level, it's a nice bass it its own right. Having the Fender meant that I could try them side by side, and I can vouch for the workmanship on the Squier. I happily gigged a Squier CV for some time, so I don't buy into label snobbery. The one I got for him had a great set up, great neck, and quiet electronics. Highly recommended. I noticed in these reviews that some had poor set-ups from the factory. Just because a bass isn't set up properly doesn't mean it's a bad bass. With a good set up these things are wonderful.Tallbloke

This is a fantastic full-sized bass (be aware they make a short version usually with an SS designation and about $50 less). It has a C shape maple neck that just fits and feels perfect in your hand. The rosewood fretboard has 20 medium jumbo frets – you have to stretch those fingers out. The body is basswood which resonates nicely. Maybe the best thing about this bass is it comes with a split Single-Coil Precision bass pickup and a Single-Coil Jazz bass pickup. You can go for either the classic Fender P bass sound or the J Bass sound or use both for astonishing clarity. There is also active bass boost control, a master tone control, and separate volume levels for each set of pickups. The action is pretty low the only drawback being you'd better be precise on the upper frets to avoid a bit of buzz. You might could make some minor adjustment to avoid this, but if you are fretting it right, it isn't a problem. I'd highly recommend it for beginners, but I wouldn't be ashamed taking it to gigs either. It's a Squire made by Fender, but it isn't a Fender. It's made in Indonesia, not in California, but then that is why it doesn't cost so much. A Fender Precision or Jazz Bass can run 2 grand and a Dimension about $1400.I gave it 4 stars rather than 5 simply because it isn't a Fender. Fora Squire it's definitely a 5 star. Overall: I bought this after seeing some online videos and I'm glad I did. Playing on a short scale is infinitely easier on the fingers than playing a standard scale base. Throw in 6 strings that use standard guitar tuning and you get some incredible tonal opportunities. The fact that you can play guitar chords with pretty much ease, is amazing. With that said, you are playing on a uniquely thin neck (its comparable to a standard guitar) that can be tricky playing the Low E string. The Low E string is virtually on the edge of the fret board. Do a fast pass and you really need to come straight down on the string. Any angle, and you will likely fret out. One downside worth noting is that the bridge has no height adjustment. I understand there are after market bridges that are much better, but it would have been nice to have that basic feature available. Interesting choice for pickup selection. One switch for each pickup. The forth switch is "Bass Strangle Circuit" takes some of the Low end out for smoother medium bass tone response. All in all, its very fun to play and inspiring, but you may need to adapt your play style a bit to accommodate it.Richard

On first inspection, the bass looked great, but when I first plugged it in I noticed that the jack socket wouldn't hold the cable securely. Bending the pin didn't resolve it so I had to replace the socket with a sturdier Switchcraft one, which was easy to do but shouldn't be an issue on a brand new instrument. Having had it for a couple of weeks, I've noticed a minor imperfection in the finish near the trem. It looks as though the finish isn't completely flat under the clear coat, but is only visible in certain light, so it wasn't immediately obvious. I've also found gaps around two of the inlays on the fretboard. The cut out in the pickguard around the switch plate is a bit rough around the edges. All minor things but Squier's QC could be better. The stock strings are awful; they're far too light to handle the tuning, especially the low E. It's generally accepted that they need to be replaced to get the best out of it, but it's pretty annoying, especially when Fender makes a set of Bass VI strings in the right gauge. For all the minor annoyances, I do like the Bass VI. It's great to play once it gets a decent set-up and sounds good too.Reviewed by Andertons Music Co.

Love it. If your looking for a plug and play this works. There is quite a following on these and tons of knowledge available. There are somethings that need to be addressed because of the design of these so be prepared to do a bit of modding. I have purchased a hardtail plate to sub out the tremolo. Worth every penny. This honestly feels just as good as my Fender's. Build quality is top notch, the satin finish is as beautiful as it feels, love the colour, and I'm very impressed with the anodised pickguard. I have a gold anodised guard on my Fender Strat which feels like nails on a chalkboard if you scratch it with your nail, but that isn't a problem with the guard on this Squier. I don't know what they've done differently here but it's a massive improvement. Not sure what else to say except you should definitely get one of these quick as they are only making them in 2022.Andrew G.

For the life of me I can't understand how the bass vi spent so much time in the shadows of obscurity. This is the most useful bass I've ever played: in the right hands it fills the gap in the chordal range that usually is missing between guitar & bass. I'm talking about chords usually reserved for the piano. Its just amazing to open up this end of the spectrum. As a straight bass the low end is all the way there, guitar players should be advised: you can definitely blow out your guitar amp with this thing. It is a bass and can cover all of the bass's traditional roles. The cons: it is a Squier so dont expect the cleanest finish. Mine came with some irregularites in the neck finish but the neck is straight and it played pretty well right out of the box. The binding on the neck is a little sloppy but minor and purely cosmetic. My volume pot came jacked & only useful for the last quarter turn but thats an easy fix. PUPs sound better than I expected and dont need to be upgraded. I will replace the bridge before anything else. All in all for the money you cant beat this instrument. Stoked Squier made this instrument affordable with the classic jazzmaster/ jag looks.Lazybullet

The Squier Bass VI materials and workmanship are excellent, its sound is clear, strong and extremely variable. It plays great, feels good to hold and while covering anything a regular bass can do, offers an upper extension even to chording. Personal setup is quick and easy. The supplied .024-.084 round wound strings sound and play well though the E6 can be a bit slappy and requires a bit of finesse to master cleanly. However, LaBella offers custom round wound and .026-.095 flat wound sets and the neck responds well to truss rod adjustments so the bass is not a one trick pony nor limited in usefulness. The only conundrum concerns installing the Trem Arm. There is no user guide in print or online to describe its installation. It doesn't screw in and no matter how hard pushed into its collar, it just won't fit into the internal collet. So far, query to Fender has been acknowledged but unanswered, but they do have a toll-free support line which is the next course of action. As one experienced with vintage American Jaguars and knowledgeable of these Trem Systems and Fender in general, I find this unusual but just a bump on the road to sonic bliss. This is an incredible deal on a vintage type reissue of the Fender VI and overall, as well as in all the usual specific respects, the instrument is excellent and of the highest order.Larz

Opened and found a beautiful instrument that played pretty well before set up. All finishes were good with the exception of a slightly noticeable marking on the lower body(mine is white). BUT, this instrument is so well made otherwise, it's not worth complaining about. I performed a slight neck adjustment that was easy to perform. Neck finger board action is great. Tone is where instrument really shines. It has three pickups and with the combinations, the sounds are varied and complex. There is a forth switch which changes the bass dynamics keeping the tones brighter for a very haunting sound. I'm primarily a guitar player that uses drop "D" for tune choices. This new guitar gives me all the other creative choices I wished for further expanding my playing options. The only complaint I have is the Fender bass case that was recommended by MF that I purchased that can not be used with this guitar as it had a molded interior that prevents the guitar from fitting inside at all. MF needs to know their product better before making such a recommendation. I am confident MF will get me the proper hard shell case for it since Fender is now advertising one specifically for it. I play at home and at church. It has that jazz bass sound that I love! The feeel of the neck is great. The highs are not overwhelming and the bottom end is not muddy. It is very responsive. It is a great entry level bass, and is actually not far from a pro level instrument. It is an outstanding value. I believe that it is worth more than the bass sells for. There isn't anything that actually needs to be changed on the bass, other than a good set up (to fine tune the action, etc.)and some better strings, if desired. I was surprised how well the bass played right out of the box. The bass looks amazing! I was able to see actual photos of the bass I ordered, and I could see it has a two piece body, with no serious knots or flaws visible. It's good to see what you're getting! There are lots of guys buying these basses, and then modifying them to their liking. It is a good platform for that kind of interest. (The bass has good bones.) But for someone just looking to get started on a 5 string, or someone on a budget, this bass KILLS! Buy one. Everything works well enough on this bass to make it a "keeper". Let me just say that once I saw the shell pink bass vi was coming out, I had to rush and sell my then-current boring black squier bass vi to justify the pink one. I purchased the other one last year from that one huge online retailer, and it came needing a setup really badly. After a tuner thread mishap and a replacement one (from the retailer), I was back in business. It just played badly. Even with La Bella strings. I sold it and placed my order with CME for the shell pink one, then just waited. It just came today, and it plays like night and day from the other one. It's lively and the action is nice and low. The frets feel like they've been polished and dressed, and it just plays in tune, even with the cheaper D'Addario strings. Great job guys. I will always buy from your store after this. It was worth the months of waiting.Zach

This is a super well made instrument for the price point. There were no problems with the finish and the color is amazing. The fretboard looks good, particularly the block inlays. The neck itself has this kind of matte/satin feel to it which I like. The fretboard and neck are straight and bonded well with no obvious dead spots. The all-wound strings take a little bit of getting used to but I think the gauge choices were largely correct since the instrument intonated perfectly out of the box. The only build complaints I have are 1) the fret dressing could be a tiny bit smoother at the edges and 2) the tuners should have been geared a bit higher for better precision. The instrument's sound is incredible. It really plays and feels like a long scale guitar, but an octave lower. Each pickup has its own voice, and each combination of pickups plays well and feels distinctly different. The "Strangle" switch is a hard low cut and is effective for "filter" type sounds. It also drops the output level significantly, so you will find yourself with a large amount of extra gain if you build a tone around it being on and then flip it off. Overall it is a wonderful instrument. My friends already envy it. If I lost this one, I'd buy it again in a heartbeat.David S.

I've always had the urge to buy a Bass VI, and even considered going the Fender Custom Shop route, but thought better of it because I had never actually played one. I had considered a Squier VI, but the two colors offered didn't thrill me. I was very excited when I saw these announced as a limited run, and I knew I'd finally get my hands on one. I had read about the issues common to the Squier VI and the Bass VI in general. In short, this one has the same issues originating from design. The quality issues I'd heard about from the Squiers, however, were not to be seen. This is a fantastic instrument, and the quality is much better than the previous Squier models I've owned. I'm quite happy with it, and after adding a set of Flatwound strings, it's even better. I can't recommend this enough to the guitarist who has everything they need, but still wants something new and exciting.Marc
