Better than any locking tuner, you just have to measure the string to the second peg above the one you're using, cut it and put it in. When you get to the unwound ones, clip a little shorter (can't tell you how to measure, I figured it out by trial and error. I would estimate 3 wraps by sort of wrapping it loosely, then cut). Perfect match to the vintage F tuners made on the great strats of yore, you can age them to match by fuming the finish with muriatic acid. Place the tuners on an upside down bowl in a piece of tuperware with an inch or so of acid. Seal the lid. Place in a bath of hot water, and the acid will heat and evaporate. After 10 – 15 minutes check the level of chrome removal. You can always do more, but you can't easy put chrome back on. Rinse with cold water when you're done. RAWK ON!!!!ki_jaybones
I love these tuners. They look cool, they hold tune well. I would not upgrade to these for any guitar that doesn't already have them. Use these for repair/replacement only if you have a guitar that comes with these machines (Eric Clapton, 50s reissue strats). American standards, deluxe and mexican strats all use a different mounting method and have a different peg hole size which is why they provide you with those bushings. If you use these to replace the stock Ping tuners you must be able to drill and tap the machine screw mounting holes. The bushings do not set tight in the existing tuning machine peg hole. I used a drop of super glue to hold the bushings in place to the head. I did use these to make a black MN MIM strat look more like Eric's blackie, so it is not impossible to use them, just know you will have to drill new screw holes and tap them for mounting. Be very careful to not drill all the way through the head and with brass mounting screws. There are no extra screws. It is very easy to bur the brass phillip screw heads beyond use. After your holes are drilled use a pick guard screw to thread hole, then use the provided mounting screw for the tuning machine. I drilled and tapped holes to install one machine at a time to more easily manage alignment of machines from one to the other. After I was done it looked factory issue and worked the same. I put a drop of oil between the peg and bushing before stringing to ease peg binding against the bushing.
I build custom Strat/Tele's so this may not apply to all but…. Like others said this peg uses press-fit front bushing style similar to low cost Squire Strat. For standard diecast pegs I drill 10 mm diameter holes on peg head. I use aftermarket necks with 8 mm diameter hole (I remember it is same as low cost Squire). What I do on 8 mm holes for this peg is I drill 4 mm deep 23/64 (9.1 mm??) diameter counterbore holes to accommodate the bushings. I strongly recommend using drill press not hand drill for this. Also for a better support of peg shaft, I made Teflon sleeves to fill the peghead holes of 8 – 10 mm with silicone grease. One minor issue I have is peghead of some aftermarket Tele neck is a little undersized so I need to file the end peg (High E) a bit to fit.Basement Blues

I upgraded my pickups in MIM strat and wanted to go black from the existing white. I lost a humbucker for a single coil in the process and needed a new pickguard. My strat was the midnight wine color (dark) and the black looks absolutely awesome on it compared to the white. Everything fit perfect. No mis aligned screws etc as often occurs when changing out parts on some MIM strats. The strat is year model 2006. The only complaint and it is notable band the reason the rating is a bit lower: I understand black loves scratches but come on, the instant I wiped the pick guard with a very soft cloth, massive scratches. It is brand new and very scratched. Even micro fiber cloth marks it. I know it will get scratched but I wanted the shine at least until playing it caused scratches. I would prefer to pay a little more and Fender make the plastic more scratch resistant. That can be done very easily in the polymers/chemistry chosen. Other than the scratching gripe, typical good quality OEM Fender, looks sharp, fits good. Change your color and personalize your strat easily. I am glad I did.
I love the aged look of the pickup covers and knobs. I have ordered many over the years. The tremolo cover does not match at all and usually has a mint green color. That part of the kit is a waste. I have piles of them which I cannot use. The best look for your Strat is a W/B/W pickguard with matching tremolo cover and these pickup covers and knobs. I will continue to buy the kit. I have tried several others and they are always lacking.lawellness

I put the first one on a Warmoth Telecaster with 4-position switch and Fender Lace Sensors I was building, and liked it so well I went back and retrofitted my old hot-rodded 1978 MusicMaster which has the original neck pickup and a DiMarzio Super II Humbucker in the bridge position. A few months ago, I completed a Warmoth Stratocaster build, with Fender Lace Sensors, a 5-position toggle switch, push-pull volume switch for extended pickup combinations, and TWO TBXs! The TBX sounds great with all of them. This Fender TBX expands the range of a normal tone pot so that from o to halfway (that has a detent notch) it works as the normal full tone pot. From halfway to full, it then slowly removes lower frequencies. When you have one of these you no longer realize what it is doing but the effect is to smoothly widen the overall tone pot function effectively doubling its range. I put together my own Stratocaster, the build took about a year and a half as genuine fender quality parts can get pricey. The neck plate made my strat look legit and high quality. As a professional musician I'm a stickler on quality parts for my instruments and I can tell tell you with 100% confidence that buying genuine fender parts for your build is worth every penny they just look, feel and sound good.Pablo
Be aware these are about 19 grams in weight and are made of some kind of aluminium alloy. The old strat plates were made of some other heavier non magnetic metal. My strats old plate weighed in at 59 grams; both are roughly about 2.2 mm thickness. The fender f plate and vintage plate are both chrome plated steel, (well magnetic material anyway). The vintage plate is about 32 grams and very thin at about 1.2 mm. The f plate is about 1.5 mm, and a little heavier the vintage, (on guitar so could not weigh). The corona plate seems strong and it has a good chrome finish. I marked it down one star due to the radical weight difference over previous plates, but I'm sure it is strong enough to last. Pre-bent to a slightly tighter radius. This eased installation a great deal. Not cut to uniform lengths, but they were all long enough to get the job done. The cuts were a little sloppy, but they must be filed and finished at the ends either way. Needed very little levelling and dressing. The fret wires come in over sized lengths with plenty to work with. I was concerned that the grooves from the removed large jumbo frets would be too loose but they have more than enough tangs that fill and grips the rosewood which can be a bit 'chippy'. I had to adjust the radius of each one which was a bit of a pain that would have been much easier if they left them straight. They filed, leveled and crowned well and are just a bit taller than expected it good quality.001Berek

I had to buy an Allparts, this "genuine Fender" is NOT correct spec for either true vintage or reissues. The holes are spaced about 2-3 mm closer together than they should be, this means if you tried to put it on vintage or reissue, or in my case an exact replica I built, the whole thing will not fit. Perhaps if you drilled your holes to match this one than it would fit. These facts are only about the GOLD version, not the chrome version, for some un-concieveable reason, Fender's gold plated version is off spec, but their chrome version is correct. That said, the gold plating is better than the gold Allparts, but that's about all.b_u_z_z_y
I wanted to replace the ferrule that came on my Roland G5 Strat as it has a much shallower angle so the cable sticks out at more than 45 deg. Really tacky. [Not sure if it was original, or if the previous owner had replaced it for some reason.] I tried a cheaper alternative [about half the price, but turned out to be the same as the G5 one.] By contrast, this is the 'real thing'. Identical to the nice ferrule on my Roadhouse Strat. The mounting surface for the socket is nearly at 90 deg to the lead-in slope, so the cable comes out parallel to the ferrule and sits at around 30 deg to the actual guitar face. Much better look and feel, It also seems to be made of a slightly heavier gauge stainless steel and is nicely finished. If you want the real thing, buy the real thing!wendy77bb

The only thing puzzleine me is why is it more money for the vintage tree with onw metal spacer and one nylon spacer and on tree, than the pack which I bough that has two trees and two metal spacers? i also thought that the screws provided are longer than what i remember my 56 strat or even the screws from the 60's were. made it harder to instal. I drilled it with a 1/16 drill but one be careful not to go to deep but you have to go deep enough of you can't screw it in tight. otherwise it works just fine.Mike

For as much as I love my '99 AVRI 57-reissue Strat, I always hated the "aged white" plastic parts installed in that bright white pickgaurd. The 'aged-white" is actually cream… I've seen real 57's in person and in tons of books, and I've never seen one that has the mismatched look of the later AVRI 57's. Wanted to replace the plastic switch tip on my Gretsch. The import Gretsch has a metric thread switch which does not fit with many of the tips available. This fit perfectly. Could not be more happy with the purchase. Nice little, inexpensive upgrade to the look of my guitar. I've included some pictures; one on a Torino Green G2622T and one on a Golddust G2420T.tonwed
I ordered these tips for an import Strat copy, (actually it's for an aftermarket switch anyways) and they didn't fit, they were much too big and didn't fit snugly at all. So, I figured, fine, my fault. However, I tried the tips on a stock Squier switch, and they didn't come close to fitting that one either! Maybe it's only American Strats that these fit? Well, it's a switch tip, not much to say… although I will state this: it's original Fender so the quality is decent and more importantly, it will fit the wider blade on the switch common to Fender original switches (maybe others too). The slot on cheaper import switch tips are too narrow.danb435

Except for the length, it's a great product. Good gold color to match the jack plate and tele-style knobs, and seems durable enough you won't be chipping off gold and seeing potmetal screw underneathe. They work nice for the switch, but not so much for the pickups. Would be better for pickups if they were a countersink head shape, and a little bit longer. The action is nice and low on my guitar with a short screw like this it doesn't let me adjust them down out of the way. Caution and advice – Check the pickup height before you put all those freakin' screws back in. When the pickup pops off the short screw and the spring falls down inside, frustration is maximized. Especially at 2 in the morning. Well made, good finish., good color. Tuners are solid and work — not locking type, but stays in tune. Installation takes either a neck with the two little guide-holes all ready to go, or else some skill with a small drill bit. Put it into place and tighten down enough to leave two faint dents on the headstock, then remove and drill. Tape a stop guide so you don't drill too far through the neck, just deep enough for the wee pegs.zippinski
The only downside to these tuners is that they require two holes to be drilled in the back of the headstock alongside the 10mm hole to locate two pins extending from each tuner that prevent it twisting around under string tension. If your headstock is pre-drilled, no problem, but if it isn't you will have to do this yourself. I used a Dremel with a dentists' drill and a steady hand. Other than this they look great, very tidy and most importantly work well. They hold tune perfectly. Recommended.johthoma270
These are the tuners that came stock on my E4 Fender American Standard. They have a smooth feel, and stay in tune well. The tuners have worked reliably since I bought the guitar in 1985. I also have several other guitars with these tuners, and they all function perfectly. I think that the tuners improve the sound by making sure that the strings stay in tune. Also, these tuners make good contact with the neck, and don't vibrate like some marginally acceptable Chinese tuners, found on some Squiers (and other budget guitars), thereby better transferring vibration to and from the neck and strings.
