Initially intended to buy an Xotic EP Booster because I wanted to try the Echoplex thing out, but saw this little guy and figured…why not? I like it so much, I don't see the point in ordering the EP Booster anymore! Hits the front end of my Soldano in a way no overdrive has yet, and with no noise. Works equally well in front of my OCD pedal for a lead boost. And to all the people whining about the switch not clicking…whatever. I like that about the TC stuff and wish all pedal companies would make their switches "clickless". Great value, just buy it already! Thanks TC and Sweetwater!
This pedal does exactly what it claims and does it better than other pedals of the same purpose. It is constructed extremely well. For around $50 this pedal's physical casing and switch assembly is made better than pedals I own costing hundreds of dollars more. I don't foresee this pedal ever needing replacement or repair. All in all a solid bigmuff clone in small package. The tone knob is nice, you can sculpt a grainy treble or just a nice full warm fuzz, I lean towards the middle. I combined this with a golden horseman that has its gain up too, and it creates a nice doomy stoner sound. This is the amazing Boss DS-1 distortion pedal, loved by all who use it. Amazing value at just £55. I won't bore you with stories about how robust it is, because we all know Boss equipment lasts forever. It looks and feels great, but most importantly, sounds incredible. I play punk rock, and with my Gibson SG Special, plugged into my Marshall JCM 900 this delivers exactly the sound I want. I loved that in the manual it gives example sound setting, one of which was British Punk. That just made me smile. I knew instantly it was right up my street. Oh, and if you're into electronics, this thing is made of pin-through-hole components, so it leaves it open for a good bit of modding. There are plenty of guides for that online. Now I don't hate it, but Its not my first go to pedal. I like the more modern BOSS "Metal Core". It is however like all BOSS PEDALS built like a tank, extremely reliable and a great first pedal. For the money, this is a super value. I found that I like it for "Gain Stacking" in combination with the BOSS MD-2"Mega Distortion" and a few other pedals. Even two DS-1 DISTORTION together improve the performance to me. I have a 60w Fender Deville amp. Lovely clean sounds straight from the amp but couldn't really use the overdrive channel without the volume getting to an inconsiderate level at home. This pedal has addressed that issue really well. This pedal now provides me really raunchy distortion while providing a greater control for volume. I've been looking for a phaser that has more controls than a simple speed/rate knob that I liked and could afford. I had a Mutron way back in the 70s that I sold in the 80s. I have never been able to find another I could afford so I settled for a 1 knob wonder because everyone thinks they are great. Unfortunately I didn't. The phase from the 1 knob wonder was way too drastic and created chaos in my tone. I got a gift card for GC recently and took a gamble on this phaser, but I'm glad I did. This pedal is fantastic. Very versatile, lots of adjustability, goes from subtle to over the top and everywhere in between, 2 different speeds can be set and switched between the two. Overall: This pedal sounds great, it's nice having two chorus options. You can get lots of different sounds out of it. It's very clear sounding. I am satisfied with the sound. I also like the overall look of the pedal but i'm mixed on the lights on this thing.1. I do not like the green led. It is insanely bright. 2. I do like the led lights on the knobs, they're a nice blue color . You can turn them off but you won't because it is easier to see the knobs when the bright green led is lit. 3. Next to the sensitivity knob is an orange led that lights in response to playing speed.4. There are light green leds (normal brightness) that indicate which of the two chorus settings you are currently on and and one that blinks with the rate of the chorus setting you are currently on. Overall though, i like the pedal, i'm definitely keeping it. The sound is the most important thing and it sounds great. It's just a lot going on with the lights. I'm a metal guy at heart, so when I finally put the Metal Zone away and started building a grownup pedal board, a Tube Screamer was high on my list. I was particularly interested in this unit because of the size, since my beginner board probably isn't going to be very big. I plugged this little guy into my regular setup and was immediately blown away. If you've played some metal you know the setup: straight into a high gain amp, drive at 0, level at 10, and tone dialed in to taste. It made my Orange Micro Dark Terror, digital Bias FX rig, and even my sad old Marshall solid state roar, but in a much more defined way that never felt flabby or uncontrollable. I would recommend pairing it with a decent noise gate to trim down the hum, but that's just what electric guitars do when you crank the gain, and not a flaw of this pedal in particular. Okay, sure, it can do metal. I've also run this unit through a bunch of other setups and contexts. Through my Orange I definitely got very usable blues and classic rock tones by pulling the gain and volume back on the amp, and setting everything on the pedal around half way. I can even see potentially using it with the drive all the way up as a lead boost or to slightly break up a clean tone. This little thing is a beast for sure, and is pretty much perfect for my uses. It's not a transform your amp kind of effect, it's meant to compliment what your existing equipment already does. It has some specific things it does well, and it *really* nails them. #sweepstakesDan
Stop what you're doing right now. RIGHT NOW, and get this pedal. This tiny little monster sounds incredible and I am kicking myself for not trying any kind of Tube Screamer for my 20+ years of playing guitar. This literally sounds like a tube amp in a box. You can dial in the perfect amount of boost or drive without really impacting your guitar's true tone. If you push it all the way, it's almost in distortion territory, yet it retains warmth and picking dynamics…on the other hand it compresses nicely – like a tube amp. How does it do that? It's magic. I got this mini version because I'm building a mini pedal board, so it fits perfectly. Don't let the size fool you though, because it sounds incredible. The only drawback is that it needs an external power supply. Oh, and as an added bonus, this is made in Japan, and it shows. The switches, knobs, and inputs feel very high-quality. I collect Tube Screamers, and decided to get this for the collection. Soundwise, it works as a TS808; great transparent overdrive for stand-alone use but excels at boosting gain on an overdriven amp. Not as harsh or "dark" as a TS9, and a decent price. Definitely a TS to consider if you're trying to save some money; you definitely won't be missing out on the sound of the TS808. Also great if you want to add a Tube Screamer to a board, but need to save space. The only negative I can say is the Level and Tone knobs are difficult to see for settings, but that's true with most mini pedals. It doesn't take a battery, but there again, neither do most mini pedals. Construction is more solid than the Mooer Green Mile, and the TSMini is made in Japan (thought for sure it was Chinese). The price is great on these, but I'd also consider checking out the East River Overdrive by EHX; my current favorite Tube Screamer clone. As far as the Ibanez Tube Screamer line-up, this is seemingly the best value.Dave

I used to think that boost pedals were dumb and that I would never use one. But after watching dozens of videos and seeing several big name endorsements, I thought that the Spark might be for real, and it is now EASILY my favorite pedal. Simply put, it just makes your tone better, no matter what kind of guitar or pickups you run through it. The sound quality and versatility are the best features. It gives you a great boost, but it's extremely amp-like, in the same way that clean channels on good tube amps break up if you crank the gain. And the little toggle switch gives you three different "clean channels" with which to work. The middle position has the most clean headroom and is the classic boost, but still breaks up a little if you max the gain. The Mid and Fat sounds add beef to your tone in fantastic ways, and I use those most often. Do you think that single-coils and/or jazz box guitars sound thin compared to solidbodies with humbuckers, like me? The Mid and Fat settings will fix that for ya. I love my Strats and my jazz guitars so much more now. Turn up the gain and the Mid and Fat settings will give you a great overdrive too. The best part about cranking the gain on the Spark is how well it makes your sound hit tube amps. It gives you glorious saturation at any volume level. This is the perfect pedal to put first in your drive section. Your other drive pedals will greatly benefit as well. Worried about tone? This is the most transparent pedal I've ever used, even more so than TC's other drive pedals (which I also love). The two EQ controls are fantastic and give the pedal a huge advantage over nearly every other boost pedal. Whether fully down or cranked, you get usable sounds in great frequency ranges. Took a bit of a flyer on this as I sort of have an end result in my head and im not entirely sure how to get there. i have a hybrid amp that has a touch of valve harmonics that im trying to exagerate. this is a step in the right direction (and with some fiddling might even be the thing) i think what i was expecting was more like a compressor, but this is more or a transparent drive type effect (at least with my amp). however it is first drive pedal that ive loved without faffing about with the dials for hours. am getting nice bluesy /seventies blues rock tones using the clean setting on the toggle, and the gain about midway. the fat setting starts pushing into proper overdriven sounds, but with a nice natural tone. so despite not being exactly what i was looking for (my fault) im really pleased with this pedal. so much so i might gift one to my kid. theres a tiny bit of noise when the level knob goes up high, but i get much the same from my SD1 so either its just the nature of the beast, or my set upReviewed by guitarguitar custome

To use a fine old term 'bang for the buck' this is definitely it. If one understands how these work this one delivers the goods. I am easily able to get the full envelope range using a stock Strat. This pedal is cool but kind of strange. The overall effect is very mild through clean instruments but is very noticable with distortion. It boosts your signal a bit which will cut your volume if you switch it off in the middle of a song. The white knob does reshape your mid range tone which can either add an extra layer to shape your eq or diminish your eq altogether. This knob always reshapes your tone in this manner regardless of what the other knobs are at. One major benefit to this is that it seems to polish your tone a bit. The difference was extremely obvious when I tested this through my full bore pedal. This is worth having but it's more of a secondary effect pedal. If you need something to go with your distortion/reverb pedal combo and don't want something generic, this is a good choice.gei_57

The results were surprisingly good, after using some acoustic guitars as my samples and then using a cheap single coil guitar to recreate them. It even captured a passable sitar sound. I'm going to build up a good selection of various guitar samples for future use. You can certainly change between generic guitar sounds easily. A start will not sound exactly like a les paul but certainly gets in the ball park and captured tone can be tweaked with the excellent tone controls before saving. Maar nu ik het ding een paar weken in huis heb, maak ik er steeds minder gebruik van. Het begint steeds meer tegen te vallen. Bedieningsgemak en afwerking zijn prima. Lekker klein=ideaal. Het capturen van een Les Paul met als target een Strat is wel oké. Je krijgt een veel zwaarder geluid dan met de standaard-Fender. Maar de sustain komt niet in de buurt van die van een echte Les Paul. Een Lucille-capture is al veel beter. Met een elektrische gitaar een akoestische capturen is gewoon niet oké. I’ve been playing a long time and I used to own the Roland Phase II, ‘70’s analogue pedal which, for me was the ultimate phase sound until I foolishly sold it when I took a break in the early 80’s!!. This pedal is very versatile but not quite as good sounding as the Red Witch moon phaser pedal I’d been using until it died very recently. Hopefully though it will turn out to be much more reliable than the Red Witch!! I’ve found the tone prints interesting to experiment with and I’m now using one of the prints beamed to the pedal as the main phaser sound at present..All in all a good pedal for the price I’d say…Reviewed by Andertons Music Co.
This is my 2nd TC Electronics pedal. They work great. There is plenty of competition out there and these days most gear is actually quite good compared to what was available in the 70's. Some people swear off any digital FX but I am quite satisfied, Years ago I had a MXR Phase 90 and felt it was a one trick pony. With this you get a lot more flexibility and you really don't give anything up. Is it as good as let's say an Empress Phaser, I cant say for certain, My Empress Chorus is great so the Empress Phaser is probably just as good if not better but honestly, they are not in the same ball park in price or features but this does get high marks as an overachiever in the regular pedals segment by using the tone print app. The Tone Print app lets you "beam" presets to the pedal through your smart phone, dozens of sounds tailored by professional musicians are available to you on demand. There are settings for guitar and bass. In short this is a really great option for a flexible digital Phaser in the standard pedal price segment. It meets my needs and does not break the bank. Bought this mainly for re-creating the original 1970's stereo Mutron Bi-Phase sound for use with my Korg Kronos using a Fender Rhodes voicing. Comes pretty close using the stock Mutron tone print, without the original analog background noise, of course. I'm in process of tweeking the tone print to get closer. All in all, a good deal, given that a good used stereo Mutron now goes for $1500. Should have kept mine. I find that the Helix and the Hall of Fame Reverb are studio quality effects in a pedal format. I regularly run the Hall of Fame in my analog mixer's effects loop. This pedal sounds really nice. It's very bassy. But it's not muddy at all. It's got more gain than most overdrives but it's not really high gain. It's a hair less from being a high gain distortion pedal. I has driving mids and sounds very robust. The tone control is very useful. U can color the tone from a smooth overdrive to a cranked distortion pedal kind of cutting high gain for leads. I'd say it's pretty versatile compared to a super overdrive perhaps. This is the only overdrive pedal I have so don't have a point of comparison. I chose this over the Tube Screamer for my Telecaster based on YouTube sound comparisons, and certainly don't regret it. While I bought it to use with a Blues Junior, which is currently on backorder from MF, I've been using it on a Champion 40 modeling amp. Through the clean channel, you get a range of overdrive sounds, from crunch, though British into super distorted metal, particularly with the guitar volume cranked up. Switching from clean to modeling channels shows this pedal generates a smooth balanced overdrive sound that you just cannot reproduce with the amp's gain and voice options, which sound thin and tinny. The only minor negative is the power supply – expect to replace the 9v battery immediately, and understand that whenever an input cable is connected the unit is on. I noticed the power light had dimmed from leaving a cable plugged in for a day, even though everything else was off. Can't wait to hear this through a tube amp!Mike

Overall: Finally got another Whammy V after missing my prior one in a "stupid-sell all-great new multi unit dumb idea". Not sure what to say about this pedal as it would seem of the many vids I have seen on it, I cast doubt if anyone really can understand how to use it without having one for a time. I constantly hear this "weeeeoooo" thing and really that might be of use now and then but what nails this pedal for me is the harmonizer mode section. 8va's and 4ths,5ths, utterly amazing. This is not so much a moving the pedal thing as everyone seems to want to do. Most of th etime mine is parked up or dwn for a specific harmony or maybe a sweep of low to high octave, play a version of Dazed and Confused using this and you may just never be the same. The lowered 5th harmonizer mode on this puppy is probably one of the best all time tones I have ever had the pleasure of playing. A harmonizer, with no set key or scale restriction, polyphonic tracking, true bypass, I'd pay more just for that. The DT model is cool but I am not really doing step tuning variants. Anyway, this pedal is sooooo much better than what you will hear being done on typical vids. Mastering this puppy will afford you a range of really cool tone possibilities nothing else can muster. Those who hate this pedal suffer from the terrible videos of it or the old models that glitch and burble from only being monophonic tracking. The buffer has been removed and this is improved poly tracking tech! Full bandwidth 1M ohm and out. Simply no comparison tech wise to the previous models.Whambam
I love how certain players use this pedal. Bucketed is the absolute master of the Digitech Whammy. I like Buckethead and got a whammy to try for myself. The only time I actually use it during performance as a ad-lib bit. The problem is that when its engaged it sucks the life out of your tone. Its like going from an all tube amp to using an iRig to play your guitar through your cell phones speakers. The effects are crazy awesome though. People that don't know gear that hear you play, bug out when they are trying to figure out how in the world you are getting those crazy sounds. The pedal needs recalibrate all the time. For no reason, even when you have the pedal on heel down, when you engage the unit the pitch will shift. The dive bomb effects are crazy for weird rumbling effects. All in all, typical of my experience with Digitech, they aren the best effects tonally. But if you want to go weeeee-ooohhhhh, weed-ohhhhhh a bunch for the fun of it, this is your pedalSpaceman Spiff
Bought this in a heartbeat to replace my Digitech Whammy IV, which is a fantastic pedal but lacks the sound quality and additional features of this latest version: the Whammy V. For the uninitiated: The Digitech Whammy is a versatile pitch-shifting, harmonizer, octave, drop-tune, and chorus pedal used extensively by at least one of your favorite pro guitarists: Johnny Greenwood, Tom Morello, Jack White, Matt Bellamy, Buckethead, and countless others. I use it not just to replicate parts of their songs–Johnny's +2-octave riff in "Just", the solo in "Like a Stone", the "bass" line in "Seven Nation Army"–but in plenty of my own songs, both live and in the studio. The construction is solid and designed for both touring and in-studio use–durable but not too heavy, big but not obnoxious. Next, the upgrades: This new Whammy comes with two huge improvements. The first is true-bypass switching. Previous models are well known for being tone-sucking beasts, and although there is still a noticeable change in your sound when this latest version is on, when it's off it's off. The other massive upgrade is polyphonic tracking while pitch-shifting, which means it can shift entire chords up or down without sounding glitchy or garbled (e.g., "My Iron Lung"). For people who like that glitchy Whammy IV sound and want the option to use it, there's now a Classic/Chords switch which lets you do just that. On the cosmetic side, Digitech renamed a few modes, reorganized the layout, and brought back the Whammy logo on the expression pedal. All of these upgrades are godsends for long-time users. Finally, the drawbacks: First, as always, there is no "intelligent" harmonizer setting, so you're still limited to choosing an interval–4th, 5th, 7th–and not a key–Bb, C#, E–for your harmonies. Also, this latest version keeps the MIDI jack but ditches the dry output, which is a bummer. This pedal is worth the hype 100%… If you're reading the right hype! It's an awesome pedal for that classic rock crunch, pushing an already hot tube amp over board into perfect leads! Think glam, early punk, and especially britpop like Oasis! One last important note to all the jokers complaining that it's not "transparent" enough… Guess what, it's not supposed to be! Do some research, watch some videos… This is the best of the best of SOFT CLIPPING overdrive pedals. Soft clipping means it adds mid tone grit that isn't there to cut through the mix beautifully. If you want a "transparent" drive pedal that completely keeps the tone of your guitar like an amp being turned up a bit, you want a BLUES BREAKER or a similar clone. Most satisfied with this overdrive unit. With my Tele on wide open volume for solos, along with compression on guitar, the guitar becomes a driving force of sound even if direct thru a channel on your board as opposed to an amplifier. But, the direct location of the amp or pa speaker in relation to the guitar will create a musical feedback response without turning around and trying to shove your guitar face first into the speaker as some do. It does a good job with overdrive and also compresses as well. My foundation is a Schecter semi-hollow that I've gutted and replaced with 50s wiring, vintage taper volume pots and unpotted humbuckers – my amp is Swart with RCA tubes throughout. Plugged straight in to amp, I can roll the volume and tone control on the guitar to get a lot of tonal variations. The tubescreamer colors all the nice things that great tubes produce. I think a more transparent overdrive like a Klon clone would suit my setup better and they can be constantly on all the time – the tubescreamer is different and not in a bad way as it is really cool at what it does. I can see it being well suited to warm and fatten the bridge pickup in a strat when playing leads. It has a nice buffer – just wish the buffer was on all the time. i cant believe Musicians Friend is restricting a word that is used in a product they sell. Replace ** with ff The Metal Mu** gave me the sound I was looking for. I have a Marshall DSl40c and an LTD EC401 and they rock. However, when the pedal is disengaged, there was little to no volume, so if I wanted a clean sound, I had to unplug my guitar from the pedal and plug it into the amp directly. I emailed EHX about the issue, they said it was a sensor issue and to return it to MF. I have returned the unit and I am waiting on my replacement. The return was painless, as I expected it would be, can't wait to get my replacement.Kyle E
Great for a pedal into a decent clean. Settings are touchy tho; makes it a little tricky to dial it in at first, but once you get a feel for it, it's not so bad. Go against your intuition to crank it; it seems to prefer being restrained. Otherwise, lots of different tones; very versatile. Seems to prefer passive pickups; my active's get a little screechy and bring out that "pedal-ly" tone, whereas the passives give a more organic sound. It's not as good as plugging straight into a Peavy, Randall or Boogie or something. A pedal never will be. But as far as a pedal into a clean amp goes.. you can get some pretty satisfying "high gain but still natural sounding" tones. Without the price tag of a high gain stack. Basically it's the sweetest pedal distortion i've played. Such a range of sounds that you can dial into nearly any amp, guitar or situation. But yeah, don't expect it to sound like you're plugged into a satan. It's more for an all purpose rig that you want to get some brutal metal out of. Also, I got some cool stuff out of it by plugging it into my FX loop.. but i usually keep it in front of the amp as it's a more versatile position. On my H&K you can use it as a boost into the lead channel, but it breaks up pretty easily, gets real noisy, and actually sounds way more brutal into the clean channel. My eq pedal works better as a boost into the amp distortion. By the way, a noise gate comes in handy. Also a Wah after the pedal.. makes things interesting.Kenny
Well not to do a life story I am the lead guitarist, in a giging punk band. for the last year and a half been trying to find a good tone at such a loud volume. So I settled on a mxr full bore metal pedal. And a lbr boost from electro hanmonix. Now the mxr is a good pedal, however when combined with the boos thats where trouble began. when i hit the boost for very short modest solos, it is punk, it would take all the bottom end out with a huge shot of mid range. I tweeked and turned till the cows cane home nothin. now with the metal miff, with the top boost saved the day. I was worried it would just flood me with treble and sound very bad not so. Also it eliminates have to get a boost pedal all together. GET ONE!!Drew

For someone who has recently started learning guitar and not in a position to own a classic or boutique tube amp yet, HX Stomp has transformed my learning experience. While not a cheap pedal to buy its much cheaper that its direct competition but with equal sound quality and flexibility. Its also much cheaper than buying a proper tube amp. Being a new player, it allows me to explore all manner of different amps to find a sound I like so when I eventually do buy a tube amp I’ll know exactly what I like. The size of the unit is just perfect for fitting onto a pedalboard and sounds amazing along with my existing pedals before it in the chain or in the Stomps FX Loop. Matching the tones of the songs I’m leaning is both fun and just amazing how close I can get in a few simple steps. It also lets me experiences how different the guitar feels to play through different style amps. With just simple fretting techniques I’m sounding like I’m an 80’s rock star which is something my small practice amp couldn’t even begin to reproduce. The sound quality and variety of tones available from sweet and clean to pure filth is a complete joy to use. My wife also loves it as she can no longer hear my daily practicing as now playing through headphones is so simple.GARETH W.
The HX Stomp is a ridiculous powerhouse of a pedal. I'm not a modeling expert or guru, but this thing is incredibly intuitive and fun to use. I've previously owned M9s and M5s and this picks up where those left off. If you're a fan of multi effect pedals, and interested in amp modeling look no further. You have to be strategic with what combinations you want since the DSP isn't unlimited, but I don't find that to be too much of a nuisance. Since you can run your analog pedals into it, efx loop or not, you have so many tonal options. I've purchased an external footswitch to add buttons and a dedicated tap tempo which I'd recommend to add functionality and ease of use. Besides those additions and minor gripes I'd highly recommend this unit. *The PolyCapo effect is my favorite! I use it to emulate a baritone guitar without needing to own another guitar and that alone to me justifies the price.
This unit is amazing value for money, so many tones available through the choices of effects amps and cabs it is almost overwhelming! There is however an amazing online community of HX Stomp users who share a huge amount of expertise so it was very easy to get up and running with the pedal. Brilliant. Only thing you should be aware of is that sticking it on a pedalboard isn’t the easiest thing in the world, it’s quite highly powered and the connector is non standard so you would need an adaptor to run it on a pedalboard. I am an avid pedal enthusiast, as my 42 pedal pedalboard will attest; and I have had a few flangers before, but ABSOLUTELY NOTHING compares to Josh's flanger. I could add to this review but it will not do anything for you: JUST BUY IT! YOU NEED IT! THERE'S NO OTHER FLANGER LIKE IT! I can get this pedal to do three things: a very subtle reverb that adds a touch of space, a room-like reverb, and a super long-tailed ambient reverb that's so expansive it almost sounds like it's mixed with delay. There are other reverb pedals for a bit more money that have more options built into them-spring, plate, hall, room, shimmer, modulated reverb, and so on. With this pedal I find it difficult to switch between the different sounds since it's a lot of knob fiddling. It does sound absolutely killer, which is why I gave it 4 stars, but I don't recommend it if you want to easily switch between different types of reverb. For me it will be more of a "set and forget" pedal for long ambient reverbs.Andrew
I was recently using one pedal board for all my guitars, and the chorus I had was mainly designed for use with acoustic guitar. Now I'm rearranging things to have one board just for my electric guitars and all I needed was a basic chorus pedal of quality build and tone. I knew from reviews the JHS 3 series was perfect for me. I've been playing for 57 years and have owned pedals in the $100 to $500 range to provide my chorus effects. No matter if I had mulitple options in some stomp boxes I usually settled on a good subtle setting, so I knew there was no need for me to get anything fancier than the JHS. It sounds are good as the little blue Boss Chorus I bought way back in 1980.Jon

Amazing little pedal, set the internal DIP to flat and not the "vintage" roll off (my opinion) even if you use zero level boost the overall buffering and sweetening to your signal is just better. Once on, you will forget about it (end of chain, after drives) only when you switch it off you'll realize, "oh yeah that makes everything sound better". What it does to the EQ and overall signal tone is unlike any other pedal I have used including all so called "based on EP3 boost circuit" stuff. Had mine on the board for years now, still nothing has bumped it. The GOAT always on pedal! Try it.Paul
The line boost really brings out the amp's potential tonality. Cuts through the mix and really enhances the amp's tonal character. Currently running it in front of a Blackstar 100 watt tube head that is paired with a Marshall 1960 Vintage cab equipped with Celestion V 75's. The sound is great. The pedal's choice of using a 9V battery or direct power plug makes it even more versatile compared to other pedals that only run on a power source. Great little pedal.ZenCat
This is a great boost pedal, no doubt about that. I bought this used for less than half the price and while it does exactly what it should I have used boost pedals that are nearly identical that are at half this retail price point. If you have a lot of money to burn and are looking for the best boost this very well might be it, however this money may be better spent on a pedal that is more versatile and more noticeable in the overall sound of your pedal chain. This pedal is a clean boost and only flavors your sound slightly, and what it adds sounds very natural and very good; the build quality is top-notch aswell. So my rating is based on the fact that I feel such basic circuitry shouldn't cost as much as this does, and I would highly recommend buying this on the used market if you can get a nice discounted price.Rareintech

After searching high and low for a Marshall'esque dirt box to go in front of my Mesa Rectoverb, I found this beautiful box of filth. I was looking for something to not only give me a different sound from the Mesa, but it had to be responsive and amp-like. I checked out offerings from JHS, EVH, MXR, Wampler, earthquaker devices, Full-tone etc. I thought I was going to dig the higher gain Friedman BE-OD, but THIS was exactly what I was looking for! Versatile gain that can handle anything from blues to metal. Amplike breakup, or THICC mid-forward grunt. That mid control is all additive, BTW! Handles AC/DC to corrosion of conformity with ease. This is the first "Marshall-in-a-box" that passes the Pepsi challenge for me.BignastyNate
I looked at a lot of videos on YouTube to decide what I wanted for an overdrive distortion pedal almost made a couple of choices I'm very glad I did not. Pedal is awesome, as others have said I think it goes kind of right up to the point of being good for metal, probably better for old school metal and glam Hard Rock. Freddy thing heavier the beod will do the trick. That said you can adjust the gain on this pedal which is awesome it is very touch responsive I have been using it first day with the game that about 1 to 3 p.m. since the game on the pedals set to about halfway or so it feels good and sounds really good going right from soloing and playing single notes right back the chords sounds great for the kind of music I do which is not metal but I do rock out. For the money it is very much worth it I would say to look at comparison videos between this one and the beod to figure out which one you want more. If you doing really heavy music you probably want the other one if you're doing everything else this will be perfect and with the payment plans AMG comes through again great people great service thanks again!Jared J
I'm using this with a Tele or Les Paul into clean tube amps run loud. It's been in my rig for maybe 4 months now. One stop shopping for higher medium to high gain rock tones. Full & natural sounding. Mid knob is boost only. Mids on zero is actually flat. If you want the scoopy scoop (I don't) look else where. If you're using a clean or cleanish amp & want touch sensitive, natural sounding, amplike dirt in the hot rodded Marshall camp, this is for you. Easiest way to dial it in is to set everything at noon & the mids at zero. bring up the mids to taste then fine tune the rest a bit. An internal trimpot offers further control of the gain range. I’ve been interested in getting a Rat for a good while and wasn’t sure which version I’d like the most, thanks to the PackRat I was able to try more than I thought and ended up liking them all, although I’ll say the JHS and LA modes are my favorites. Definitely worth getting if you want a Rat with variety.Dylan
One of the best pedals of the year and I’m sure one of the decade. Comes with the best rats inside(that doesn’t sound too good) but the pedal does and it’s so accurate to the original rats. It’s not a simulation pedal its done with the original wiring and all analog of every version of the rat. Engineering genius? Perhaps but it sounds good!!!
