Contrary to other reviews, they DO stay in tune (check your intonation and guitar setup in general) and they DO last a long time. I'm not a fan of strings that have windings that work against you. Got these just sampling a few string sets and stuck them on my 2005 Tele Deluxe, they have a fairly decent tone & output compared to my Slinkies and seem to be good quality but my major complaint is the G B and E to me are under much more tension tuned at 440, kinda mixed feelings since some of my guitars are strung with 10's so for me these are 10 feeling 9's ! I've used many strings over the yrs as most guitarists do. But I always go back to Ernie Ball. They are just simply the best quality and tone wise. I'm mad it took me so long to try these though. I love the slightly heavier bottom while still having the mid gauge on the highs that you normally get from the regular slinky set. They work great for standard tuning but work even better if you tune a half step down (my main tuning). Don't hesitate and get your pack or packs today. You won't be disappointed.Vince, T
Tried this string more for helping out with a slight string buzz on the low E. Thought a heavier low E would help out, which it did. That said, awesome sounds for thumping rhythm playing while leaving a standard 10s on the high end for note bending. Great balance when comparing 9-46 hybrid sets, which seemed more out of whack for me. Can't say yet for longevity but assume similar for Regular Slinky which benefit from a string cleaning after each use.Axel

In 20 years, I have never broken a set of stirrings while restringing a guitar. I usually buy more expensive strings, but this time i was a bit low. The boomers got great reviews and i figured I'd go for it. Unfortunately they didn't make it through the process. Whats funny is the high E broke while i was string the A string. I've been using these for years, ever since Dean Markleys became collectables. They're "just right". Bright, bold tone without that feel some strings have, like they're made by Snap-On Tools. My style involves lots of bending, so I like the extra light tops, but it also involves fairly heavy pounding on the bottom that causes extra light 4/5/6's to be an intonation nightmare. Especially with a floating tremolo. GBCL is the best of both worlds – stable bass, yet I can easily bend 3, maybe even 4 semitones on ANY string without hurting my aging fingertips, and certainly without worrying about breaking any string under a year old. If these strings aren't the gauge for you, I'd still advise GHS. Forget those $12 and $15 strings – those are for people who think they'll make them play better.Gravity Zen

Hey you music hounds out there! Give Guitar Center a shot at setting you up with some gear! I also asked if they traded used pedals towards a new pedal and, yes I walked out with a new distortion pedal!! Strings are the lowest around town and in stock. These 3250 nickel plated steel wound fender strings really sound good with the bullet ends (more surface touching the tremolo) and steel is stronger and less likely to break on a large bend and the sound is a little stronger on the pickup I've been playing 30 plus years and tried many string types and this is what I buy!!! I like regular gauge .10-.46 but the choice is yours =JamMan= play till I drop……
The reason I tried these strings (3150R) was because i bought a Telecaster (Baja) in 2007. I read about fret wear being less because it matches the alloy in the frets of new Fender guitars, in comparison to steel strings. Therefore there is the hope it offers less wear and tear on the frets. I had also had problems with the Telecaster 'icepick' sound on the bridge pickup. These strings softened the icepick sound I was getting with steel strings. They last for up to 4-6 months. I think the Tele and nickel string combo is a winner for me. My attitude towards Fender strings changed after this, so I tried the bullets on my Strats. Guess what they were even better with tremelo dives and resistance to detuning. But I thought the pure nickel really affected the sound I got. I like the biting sound from steel strings (GHS Boomers, 10-46) on both a 1970 Stratocaster and a Lace sensor stock equipped 1990 Strat Ultra, so I choose the nickel-plated (3250R) steel strings. Pure joy of sound from both. I had to get a refret on the '70 Strat in 2010, so it was a good move to use these strings to avoid fret wear.

I recently had some repair work done on my 79 Peavey T-60 and the tech recommended these. I haven't played my T in years, and back when I did, it was in my garage band where we cranked out a lot of Zeppelin and Hendrix stuff. The T-60 offers coil splitting via the tone knobs. At 10, you get single coil. Below that, you get a variety of full humbucker tones. It has a 25.5 inch scale. It's a perfect cross between a classic Fender Strat and a Gibson Les Paul, with some Telecaster tossed in on the neck pickup. I'm finding this time around with the T that I'm really enjoying the clean tones I'm getting, playing through a Fender Princeton Reverb Reissue, as well as playing through an overdrive pedal (to get some dirt without scaring the dogs out of the room). I'm never sure with strings how much is sales talk and how much is legit technical merit, but I am finding I am enjoying the feel and the variety of tones I'm getting – single coil or bucker – from myT with these strings. I've got about six hours play wear on them so far, and there is no visible discoloration so I'm thinking they should last as long as they claim, to justify the price, which is the only reason I don't give them 5 stars. Have almost every string. Have a new Eastman t486, 335 clone, that has not sounded right with other strings. Latest we're Tite Fit 10s but they were muddy on this git. The Gibson Vintage 10s are full, smooth with great overtones. Very musical strings. They also allowed me to lower the action to spec without buzzing. I have tried many other strings but have found none that can equal these Gibson reissue pure nickel. I have tried D'Addario, Ernie Ball, and others but these are the best sounding strings i have ever used hands down! I LOVE these strings. I have about 5 sets of Ernie Ball regulars in my guitar case but they will remain there and never get on my guitar. Why? These Gibson's are SUPERIOR and literally sound 5 times better than any other string in my opinion. I can't get over how good they sound. I know I am over the top here but to me they are that good. They have a deeper full beautiful tone and they stay in tune better and they just make my guitar sound so good. I am hooked on these strings. I just ordered 4 sets as I am scared as hell that they will discontinue them for some reason. (notice they are REISSUE). I found out Malcom Young used Gibson strings (heavier gauge than these though) and that says it for me. I consider Malcom Young to have been a very good judge of guitar strings. I used Fender strings a long time ago and they always performed well. I made the change to super slinkys many moons ago but decided to go back to 350L when I changed over to my Nighthawk. The slinkys seemed a little dull, maybe it has something to do with the Nighthawk having a Fender scale length. Great move! Everything is much brighter and present with no sacrifice on bottom definition. I play every day and liked the longevity of the super slinkys so we will have to see how the Fenders compare. I turned to Stringjoy because I wanted a 9-72 8-string set, for which there aren't many options ot there, unless you go for a custom set. I was tempted by the stellar reviews, so I decided to give these a go. Firstly, these are the clearest sounding strings I've ever tried. They're not excessively bright, but their articulation is amazing, which really helps that low F# string ring true. They are almost clear to a fault, because they emphasise every little bit of fret buzz and string rattle, so you have to watch your technique. Secondly, these are the longest lasting uncoated strings I've ever used. After a month of use, they have shown minimal aging. I don't play my 8-string every day, but still, this is impressive. Also, they don't rust, flake or turn black. They just gradually become duller, while still remaining playable. One bit of criticism I have is the tuning stability. These strings seem to need a certain amount of tension to stay in tune. They were fine on my 27" scale 8-string, but when I tried the equivalent set on my 25.5" scale 7-string, bending made them go out of tune very easily. I need to try the 10-60 set and see if it's any better. Overall, I'm very happy with this set for my 8-string, and I have already purchased more. Oh, and one more thing! Normally, whenever I use gauge 72 or higher, I have to partially unwrap the winding to fit the string into its tuning peg. With this set, the lowest string was somehow able to go in as it is. I've been using them for 8 or 9 years now. The main thing I will say about them is that they mellow out quickly, in other words the new string brightness goes away pretty fast. For me, this is good. I do not like that jangle brightness of new strings. Other than that I can't hear or feel a difference from the major brands. I have recommended them to friends who also liked them. We were in a cover band together and had to restring many guitars fairly often because they would get sweat all over and not wiped down. So these were economical.Quinn
I bought a whole bunch of these in different sizes as it is a good way to experiment with using different sized strings. Some strings last a while but many pop almost immediately right at the ball. Once I had three in a row pop, each one the first time I struck the string with the pick. Enough of the strings work well enough to allow me to accomplish what i wanted but it is frustrating and I will be glad when they run out. But whatever at this price I don't really care.b
I ordered a huge bulk back in 2010, the 10 thru 46 guages set. They hold tune well and have good tone. After each time I practice or gig, I wipe down the strings with 3 in 1 oil and they last. Some people complain that the ball ends break off. But I only use these strings on my Floyd Rose equiped guitars, so I use the ball end wrapped through the posts of my tuning keys, then lock the clamp down. I use stainless steel picks and stacatto pick ( like Yngwie Malmsteen), bend 2 whole steps and pull up hard on the tremolo bar …..and they stay in perfect tune. I'm due for another huge order and will post another review.A.J.

These are not bright strings, the sound is somewhat dull – not so much you can't boost highs and adjust mids to compensate enough for most purposes, but these will never sound great for anything that needs to pop with bright presence. I am forced to keep a 5 string tuned down a whole step for one of the bands I regularly work with and this is the only game in town. You will need to re adjust your bridge because your intonation will change with these strings on and it may be enough to make solos and high passages sound a but wonky. If you have to keep a rigged tuned down, these are what you need but they put an awful strain on the neck if you try to pull them up to standard pitch – use for lower tunings ONLY.Doug
In the interest of full disclosure, I am a DR endorsing artist. But I chose to endorse them because I truly believe they make the best strings I've ever used. At the same time, I realize that you have to have the right strings for the right bass, and your playing style and type of music you play also determine to a large extent which strings are right for you. I've tried almost every string they make, and they're all great, but not all perfect for every situation. These are definitely the right strings for me, though. I currently play a Lakland 55-60 with a maple fretboard. I used to swear by the Marcus Miller Fat Beams. But then DR sent me a set of these DDT's to try, and I was blown away! The MM strings are great, but these are much more to my liking for what I'm doing right now. I play in a modern country band and I never down-tune. But the tension, stability, and sustain of these strings are phenomenal. They also give my jazz bass a hotter output, probably due to the density of the strings. If you like tight, stiffer strings that will sustain for days and sound big and fat, give them a try! I'm giving quality an 9 because the build and overall quality is great, but they didn't last as long as I'd like. Unlike some strings that can lose tone over time, though, these pretty much sounded awesome for about a month (of playing 4 nights/wk) and then all of a sudden just didn't sound good anymore. Personally, I'd prefer it that way, rather than have strings that sound a little worse day after day. But I wish I could have gotten more use out of them. When you find the right string, you have to have it. And these are a great value. And they're cheaper than the Marcus Miller strings that I also loved, so bonus! : )
i've been using these strings for almost 2 years for hard/heavy rock. on a 36" scale 5-string the 135's feel great, and stay nice and tight at Eb or D tunings. at standard E tuning they are extremely tight. i've taken them down to C tuning, which puts the low B all the way down to seriously subterranean G, and that's about where they start to get floppy on a 36" scale bass. i would describe their tone as being loud and punchy, which suits loud, heavy music very well. as for longevity, i'm getting a solid month out of them at 10 hours per week of fairly vigorous playing. i kept the last set on to to see how long they'd go for. after 3 months they're starting to loose temper, and need to be replaced… but that's after a lot of playing.Wesley

When S.I.T. (Stay In Tune) strings first came out years ago, they came shipped straight, not coiled up. That was their thing. I tried some 9's back when I used 9's and they were better than D'Addarios which always broke. I recently tried a new coiled up set and just be warned… They went on nicely, then got really stiff before slowly breaking in. They're just like that. I've tried worse. I Love Rhythm and blues, jazz and swing. But I also like folk music and great C&W riff lines. To be honest, I have only been using these strings for about three weeks but I like them so much that I plan to use them on most of my instruments. So far, In my opinion, these strings are clean and crisp and they have a very satisfying tone even at higher volumes; and, at the present time, they appear to be pretty flex-able and easy on the fingers. I have a used 2005 hollowbody Cort Yorktown. I tried D'Addario ECG23 (10-48 "chromes" flatwounds). They were nice, but for this guitar, they were too bright, at least on the treble strings. I put on these DR flatwounds (11-48) and immediately heard the difference. The tone was mellower, including (especially!) on the treble strings. Don't ask me why. After all, the high E is just .001 inch heavier, but the consistent softened jazz sound was there, from low end to high end. Guitars differ in variables (woods, pickups, etc), so all I can say is that for my guitar (laminate maple back and sides, laminate spruce top and original humbuckers), DR 11-48 flatwounds did the trick. Will stick with these from now on. (By the way, both brands have a wound 3rd string, but DR's is 22 instead of 20. Go figure!) At one point, I was even thinking of replacing the neck pickup. I use these strings on 2 different scale length guitars currently. One is a 26.5 and the other is a 27 inch scale 7 string. The package says they are balanced for a 25.5 inch scale but they work well with my current setup without unnecessary extra tension. They work great for the standard tuning setup of a 7 string but I currently am using drop A tuning as well as drop G# and the tension is still excellent. I have no tried these strings on a multi scale guitar yet so I am unsure of how they would perform but I would imagine the strings would be even more balanced ina multi scale configuration.JASON

I have used Ernie Ball Slinkys since I started playing guitar (time that can be measured in decades, that's all I say). I have been through other top brands, and just don't like them. I have gotten to know EB strings to the point where I can nearly predict when they'll break. That's good in my book. The lively tone and intonation stays for a LONG time. And they're good enough to scrape clean and, in the word of Billy Idol, Start Again. Well, that beats boiling them (RIP EVH). What's even better is all these new, attractive hybrid sets, allowing you to easily find your groove without having to get two packs for your ideal set! EB just keeps getting better.Guy lll

These strings are okay for the price, but I've had several problems with them. 1) This is not a sealed pack, so when I bought it the .010 had rusty patches right out of the pack and maybe the .013 too. They're in individual folded paper sleeves all together in an open-air fold-over plastic sheath. 2) They're NOT for your standard extended-range/long scale 8-string. Short scale guitars only. These fit my 25.5" guitar nicely, but when I tried putting these on my Agile Interceptor 30" scale guitar, they were probably 5"+ too short. Didn't even reach the nut, much less the peg (partly because it's a string-through, tune-o-matic, long scale, and reverse-inline, so lots of extra string is needed. Also, on the paper sleeve, it tells you that it's a 30" taper, which means that the string gets narrow after 30" to fit through the tuning peg. On many extended-rang/long scale guitars, the taper will begin before the nut, which you do NOT want. You want the string to be the same diameter along the entire vibrating length. 3) The tension balance is all out of whack. The gauges are okay on the last 6 strings for 25.5" scale. A little too tight from the .054 down (I can imagine on your typical long-scale 8-string they'd be way too tight), but I drop-tune the low strings to E and A, and the .074 is totally floppy and smacking the frets and the 0.64 could definitely be thicker.The Kev
I wrote a review earlier about these strings, but I have definitely changed my mind. I do have an eight string, and I used these for it and wow…they were not very good. The most obvious thing was the .74 string gets smaller WAY before the tuners, even for my seven string. So playing the first fret feels extremely awkward. Second, palm muting on these things sounds hideously dirty compared my old strings or even the stock strings. I also have to agree that a .54 for the E string is very ridiculous. The only thing I'd recommend these for is softer playing or if you never play chords. Otherwise, get the D'Addario or any other 8-string set.Brian Dice
Ernie Ball completely failed on this one! Ernie Ball is my usual brand of string, but whoever put this set together knows absoultely nothing about string tension or 8 string guitars. 8 string guitars are extended scale instruments from 27-30", so why are they putting a .054 for the E and a .064 on the B? In their 7 string sets they put a .052 or .056 on their low B, and that's for a normal 25.5" scale. Do you see any logic in this? Then they put a .074 on the 8th string. It's actually a good choice for the 8th string tension-wise (if the rest of the strings were balanced), but it has WAY too little tension compared to the low E and B. Compared to the other incredibly heavy strings in the pack it makes no sense. If you want a nice, balanced set look into LaBella Crazy 8's, or just buy a 7 string set and add on the appropriate 8th string.

I've been playing/collecting new and vintage guitars for 26 years, and regularly try new strings. I noticed that if these strings contact the bridge when re-stringing, the color will chip off immediately. Secondly, they feel like dull plastic. This feels like your fingers are dragging, and seems "cheap". Thirdly, I had to adjust all the pickup heights on the low-E, as the heavier strings sound completely dull and lifeless. I also received a damaged string, and contacted DR customer service. I haven't even received a response in two weeks, which demonstrates how unimportant we are. In this day and age, where online retail is more important then ever, this is unacceptable. This is NOT a reflection on Guitar Center, which always takes good care of me. Ultimately, these strings are a cheesy gimmick that will hopefully fade out. If you want quality coated-strings, try Elixir.DS
I decided to pick up guitar after a 15 year break and found Rocksmith to be a pretty useful tool. I put these on my guitar to help with getting familiar with the fretboard and neck. Because it's been awhile. The first couple of days, the strings sounded great with no issues, but a couple of weeks in, some of the strings sound muted a little bit and are just not as crisp as non-coated strings. i'll probably take these off sooner than later. I would recommend these for RockSmith but if you're looking to just dress up your guitar, I would caution against them.Citiznkain
I'm a beginner and I never learned to read music. I bought these strings specifically to play along with the game Rocksmith 2014. For those who are just starting out, these strings make it easier to learn to play because of the individual colors of each string. I have bought multiple packs of these strings. I've recently bought a electric guitar, acoustic/electric, and a bass. I have put these strings on all three. Love them. As an added bonus, these strings really light up underneath a black light.Mark just starting out
