These are the best strings I've ever used. GORE has been trying to discontinue and keeps pushing the Nanoweb version: but the difference is huge! No match at all! The Elixir Polyweb maintain their tone, brightness and tension over 10 times what a Nanoweb does and probably twice that number over un-coated strings. I play every day and I've had guitars with over 6-7-8 months using the same set of strings with no issues. The're that good! BTW, my main guitars are Gibson Les Paul (TonePros Nashville and Tune-O-Matic Locking Bridge, Tusq Nut) and PRS Custom 24 (Tremolo version with Bronze Saddles and a Tusq Nut). These strings feel so good… no such thing as a strange feel because they're coated. You actually feel like playing with a very familiar and comfy feel. These Elixir Polyweb keep outperforming their competitors easily: D'Addario EXP, DR Extra, Fender DuraTone, Dean Markley Blue Steel, Earnie Ball Coated Slinky or the latest Earnie Ball Cobalt. This was a great price on my favorite strings. Shipping was very fast too. Unfortunately, "new" does not mean the same as"fresh" and I have now learned the difference. These do seem to be genuine Elixers, but a few problems which led to broken strings may indicate that these were either sitting on a shelf for a very long time or else exposed to moisture. Normally, brand new strings will be very springy when you first take them out of the sleeve. They generally will uncoil into a straight line, but every single one of these maintained a strong curl or twist in it. But that alone was not a problem for me. The strings installed normally and tuned well, but the tonal quality seemed a little sub-par compared to what I was used too. Still, it's possible I was just imagining that. The strings were fine for a month. Held there notes as well as any, and the tone was at least decent, though I still felt it was missing something. But after one month I had the B string break. I usually keep Elixer strings for 6 months before they finally lose their great tone and I replace them, and because I wind plenty of extra string around the posts, I haven't had a string break on me in over 8 years. Breaking one now pretty much confirmed my earlier suspicions. I went ahead and replaced all 6 strings with the next set, but 2 weeks later and the high E string broke on me. For now I'm borrowing the high E from the final set, but the first chance I get I will be replacing every string with a new, fresh set from a local music store. They claimed the strings were three years old. They sounded quite good for their age. After seeing a John Paul Jones interview where he said Elixers were all he used. I already used them but his opinion completely sold me. I even bought an Elixer tee shirt. I use them on all my guitars and mandolins. I won't settle for anything else. I just bought a FX5 that had Addario's on it. No pause, I replaced them with Elixers. Great sound. Long lasting. Stay good looking too. Buy multiple set bundles and save money.easymedicine1

Elixirs go on all 7 of my guitars. They last upto a year before I even notice them losing their fresh tone. 6-8 months on my everyday Les Paul's and Strat. My 12 strings don't get as many hours on them, thus the year longevity. All other strings, maybe 45 days, usually a month then dead or boringly dull. There is a difference worth paying for. Overall: I've never been one to write reviews however my few purchases at zZounds compels me to. They have enabled me to get top shelf medicinal music gear that I cud never afford without their payment plan. I have 4 deployments to war zones and am retired early now however my credit not to Shiney from a previous relationship. Their no credit check really is a blessing for people like me that have the integrity but not the credit score. Too my point. I never knew strings made such a difference. These elixirs are a little slick but wonderful once you get used to it in about an hour. Every note is very defined and the highs dont hurt your ears and lows and miss are great. I find these strings extremely good if you have ceramic pickups. Just some magic about them. I gave a shot and they improved my sound technique and overall experience with a guitar. I thought I found the magic when I got some Erie ball cobalts. The feel is similar but the sound of the elixirs optiweb are much better. Harmonics come through much better as well. I will definitely be using elixirs for a while until I may find something better in my tone search.Tigger
I usually use 10-46 but bending them requires a bit of effort. I've since changed to the 10/46 Optiweb from the Nanoweb Elixir's and they are so much better. However, I needed a set for a 25.5" scale guitar I'm keeping in E Standard, so opted for the 9/42 to try out. They feel amazing, play beautifully and are very bright sounding. In the past, I've used several non-coated strings (D'Addario XL/XT/NYXL, GHS Boomers, custom brands, Ernie Ball Slinky/Cobalt/M-Steel). Though some were better than others, even the nicer ones like NYXL or M-Steel didn't last as long as I'd like for the price, and the cheaper ones either started with not great tone/feel or got that way too quickly, requiring too often string changes. I had used Elixir strings before (Poly and Nano). Though the Nano were better than the Poly, and had good tone and lasted long, they still felt coated and I didn't love the feel. When these Optiwebs came out, I tried them out. I totally love the feel of them, as they don't even feel coated. They still have the solid Elixir tone and I can leave them on for 3-4 months without losing any tone or tuning stability. I wanted to try these on my newest guitar (Martin Jr E) as I had liked them on my previous Takemine F cutaway. They are nice, have a good tone but for some reason, I find the fretboard noise greater on these Bronze strings. I will probably wind going to different strings on this guitar, but I want to try as many as is possible. In the end, I've so far found the Martin light 12 SP strings most suited to this size guitar. In this case, it's probably a mixture of my less than perfect right-hand technique and the composition of the strings. Flat picking, these strings really work well for me.Not as fast Eddie
Guitar strings are a subjective thing, and it comes down to the users preference, so note that my take on these is based on my preference and not an indication of the quality of the product. I bought these because I had heard many good things about Elixirs, but as I suspected the difference between coated/uncoated strings is not a positive one for me. These are labeled as being "slick & fast," but I find that they do just the opposite for me – the coating actually stops my fingers from sliding across the strings. The tone seems OK – I like a "duller" tone, as opposed to that bright, metallic new string sound – these are "warm" as labeled, but I'm still not really impressed with the tone they impart on my Martin D-28. I think I'm better off with the Martin strings that came on it. But again, this is just my preference, and the only way to really tell is to buy a pair and try them out. It's an inexpensive way to experiment with the tone/feel of your guitar.Steven

I strung my Swingster with NANO's 9's>46's and I loved the feel, but it was far to brite for the Alnico pickups and an old Flextone II. 10 months of Nano use and I wanted to try the Polywebs but they don't have a comparable size to the Nano's so I bought the 12000 Super Lights and the 12050 Lights and made my own top light/ bottom heavy Polywebs. Elixir polywebs will literally last for years. The best hands down, its a no brainer. Why use strings that are dead as soon as you open them? The polywebs have more coat, feel better, and last bit longer than nanoweb. They are so good that Gore , the manufacturer, has wanted to stop producing them because they last so damn long. I have an older small-body acoustic and got these extra-lights to see how they'd do. The literature said the Polyweb sounded a bit warmer and felt "slicker" to play than the Nanowebs so opted for that coating this time. They have accomplished exactly what I wanted. They have plenty of volume in a small-body, are a delight to play, and the guitar is more responsive than before. I have a similarly made deadnought that I put 11's in 80/20 Nanoweb on, and those are perfect for that guitar. They are a different sound. I also have a high-end dread that I put Nanoweb 11's on in Phosphor bronze and they're great for that one. So all three types for three different guitars and all worked perfectly.smugdad

I've used Elixirs since they arrived on the market.. tonal response is negligibly different for bats and oscilloscopes, punters will never know – if you disagree you know where the tone controls are on your guitar and amp 😜. Elixirs go on all 7 of my guitars. They last upto a year before I even notice them losing their fresh tone. 6-8 months on my everyday Les Paul's and Strat. My 12 strings don't get as many hours on them, thus the year longevity. All other strings, maybe 45 days, usually a month then dead or boringly dull. There is a difference worth paying for. These are the best strings I've ever used. GORE has been trying to discontinue and keeps pushing the Nanoweb version: but the difference is huge! No match at all! The Elixir Polyweb maintain their tone, brightness and tension over 10 times what a Nanoweb does and probably twice that number over un-coated strings. I play every day and I've had guitars with over 6-7-8 months using the same set of strings with no issues. The're that good! BTW, my main guitars are Gibson Les Paul (TonePros Nashville and Tune-O-Matic Locking Bridge, Tusq Nut) and PRS Custom 24 (Tremolo version with Bronze Saddles and a Tusq Nut). These strings feel so good… no such thing as a strange feel because they're coated. You actually feel like playing with a very familiar and comfy feel. Normally, brand new strings will be very springy when you first take them out of the sleeve. They generally will uncoil into a straight line, but every single one of these maintained a strong curl or twist in it. But that alone was not a problem for me. The strings installed normally and tuned well, but the tonal quality seemed a little sub-par compared to what I was used too. Still, it's possible I was just imagining that. The strings were fine for a month. Held there notes as well as any, and the tone was at least decent, though I still felt it was missing something. But after one month I had the B string break. These strings have been a lifesaver for me. My hands aren't acidic and I easily get a year from them before needing to restring. I use the same brand on my PRS electric, too. (10's). I gig weekly in our church worship band so I prefer a string that holds tone and these just deliver. Super product! Overall: I've never been one to write reviews however my few purchases at zZounds compels me to. They have enabled me to get top shelf medicinal music gear that I cud never afford without their payment plan. I have 4 deployments to war zones and am retired early now however my credit not to Shiney from a previous relationship. Their no credit check really is a blessing for people like me that have the integrity but not the credit score. Too my point. I never knew strings made such a difference. These elixirs are a little slick but wonderful once you get used to it in about an hour. Every note is very defined and the highs dont hurt your ears and lows and miss are great. I find these strings extremely good if you have ceramic pickups. Just some magic about them. I gave a shot and they improved my sound technique and overall experience with a guitar. I thought I found the magic when I got some Erie ball cobalts. The feel is similar but the sound of the elixirs optiweb are much better. Harmonics come through much better as well. I will definitely be using elixirs for a while until I may find something better in my tone search.Tigger
I usually use 10-46 but bending them requires a bit of effort. I've since changed to the 10/46 Optiweb from the Nanoweb Elixir's and they are so much better. However, I needed a set for a 25.5" scale guitar I'm keeping in E Standard, so opted for the 9/42 to try out. They feel amazing, play beautifully and are very bright sounding. Standard tuning, these are my go-to string from now on.Wayne G
In the past, I've used several non-coated strings (D'Addario XL/XT/NYXL, GHS Boomers, custom brands, Ernie Ball Slinky/Cobalt/M-Steel). Though some were better than others, even the nicer ones like NYXL or M-Steel didn't last as long as I'd like for the price, and the cheaper ones either started with not great tone/feel or got that way too quickly, requiring too often string changes. I had used Elixir strings before (Poly and Nano). Though the Nano were better than the Poly, and had good tone and lasted long, they still felt coated and I didn't love the feel. When these Optiwebs came out, I tried them out. I totally love the feel of them, as they don't even feel coated. They still have the solid Elixir tone and I can leave them on for 3-4 months without losing any tone or tuning stability. I've been playing a Strat since the 1970s. When I first put these strings on I was not happy. They were too bright. They made my Strat sound like a guitar with EMGs. No tone. The next day I tuned down a semi-tone and OMG! My Strat has never sounded more like JIMI & SRV. I've tried tuning down with lots of other strings but they all sounded dull and played floppy. I have used elixir acoustic strings for years. However I recently started doing a One Man Band act and started using an electric semi hollowbody guitar. So I wanted to try there electric strings. I purchased a set of the 12-52s and had a problem with the strings breaking at the locking tuners. I wrote to them and they totally backed there product. I got another set strung them up and am pleasantly surprised. They feel great to me. They have a real smooth feeling to them. They have a great tone, not too thin sounding almost a little mellow. They stay in tune great. I will have to see how long they last. Usually with electric strings I have to change them after every show cause the oil in my skin my sweat just tears them up. If I can get a month to a month and a half out of these I will be extremely happy. I wish all companies stood behind their gear like this. I have Elixirs on every guitar I own. The heavies are perfect for jazz; I have those on my Ibanez wooden-bridge archtop and my Les Paul Florentine. Excellent, even tension across the strings, and the simply feel incredible. I just can't go back to playing anything else; they all feel tacky now. They have enabled me to get top shelf medicinal music gear that I cud never afford without their payment plan. I have 4 deployments to war zones and am retired early now however my credit not to Shiney from a previous relationship. Their no credit check really is a blessing for people like me that have the integrity but not the credit score. Too my point. I never knew strings made such a difference. These elixirs are a little slick but wonderful once you get used to it in about an hour. Every note is very defined and the highs dont hurt your ears and lows and miss are great. I find these strings extremely good if you have ceramic pickups. Just some magic about them. I gave a shot and they improved my sound technique and overall experience with a guitar. I thought I found the magic when I got some Erie ball cobalts. The feel is similar but the sound of the elixirs optiweb are much better. Harmonics come through much better as well. I will definitely be using elixirs for a while until I may find something better in my tone search.Tigger
I usually use 10-46 but bending them requires a bit of effort. I've since changed to the 10/46 Optiweb from the Nanoweb Elixir's and they are so much better. However, I needed a set for a 25.5" scale guitar I'm keeping in E Standard, so opted for the 9/42 to try out. They feel amazing, play beautifully and are very bright sounding. Standard tuning, these are my go-to string from now on.Wayne G

I've used Elixirs since they arrived on the market.. tonal response is negligibly different for bats and oscilloscopes, punters will never know – if you disagree you know where the tone controls are on your guitar and amp 😜. Elixirs go on all 7 of my guitars. They last upto a year before I even notice them losing their fresh tone. 6-8 months on my everyday Les Paul's and Strat. My 12 strings don't get as many hours on them, thus the year longevity. All other strings, maybe 45 days, usually a month then dead or boringly dull. There is a difference worth paying for. Plus they are easy to slide your fingers up and down on.Preacher Dave
