Electric Guitar Pickup Height For Sale (2024 Update)

I bought this item for my daughter for her birthday and she loved it, it came to our door on time, it was playable and very attractive, unfortunately a relative with a drug problem stole it within a day and we haven't been able to afford a replacement. It would be wonderful if BCP would be willing to ship another to us, but either way, very good product. I'll buy another one in time when we are able to afford it.Steve H.

I have a Stratocaster that I have been learning chords and following the lessons in a book that is instruction for learning scale. I have a Chibson Les Paul that looked amazingly good but unfortunately sounded a lot less than good. Wilkinson pups didn't do much to help so this purchase was to be my last resort. Since each pickup comes with a separate ground wire I was able to wire out-of-phase in addition to the usual split coil effect. These 2 effects (3 if you count using them together) is what's made this purchase worthwhile. The combination of both effects sounds especially great!. I'm going to make a second purchase and try out on a decent guitar.johnstarr41

I bought the Dimarzio Super Distortion in that I want a passive pick up on my back up guitar. ( I have active EMG pickups in my ESP LTD Les Paul style guitar). After I finally got the new pickup installed I was able to play and WOW, this thing is killer. To the distortion/overdrive and cleans this pickup is by far one of the best pickups I've played by far. While I love active pickups I think I'm going to install Dimarzio on my main guitar. DiMarzio is legendary and rightfully so, they are the best!DN

I bought this to go in the bridge position of an Ace Frehley replica Les Paul.. This is the pickup that Ace used back in the 70’s when KISS was in their heyday.. No disappointment at all with this pickup.. It is HOT and sounds just like it’s supposed to!! Thick sounding lows, crunchy mid tones, and screaming highs.. Harmonics are GREAT.. maybe not as pronounced as an active pickup, but for ceramic magnets it gets the job done. If you’re into classic hard rock or even early 80’s metal this pickup will suit you fine. This is the first DiMarzio pickup that I’ve ever used.. but it won’t be my last. I’ll be ordering another for a Paul Kossof/Dave Murray replica strat that I’m working on.Glenn N

Got this to put on my acoustic/electric and my strat. I have been doing MIDI Guitar for over 20 years and the GK-3 pickup system design is the evolution of the species… It is compact and relatively easy to install if you take your time to read the installation guide and have patience, making sure you get the correct distances and pick-up to string tolerance. Most folks will be able to fit this on a guitar in about an hour or less, and get good results. It is important to follow the directions to insure that you get the best tracking response. I used the provided spacers with adhesive-tape to mount the pick-up because I do not want to drill into my guitars for permanent mounting. Roland provided enough sizes of spacers to get the pick-up to string tolerance just right, along with the radius adjustment and the included gauge, I was able to get a really nice set-up. Having years of experience with the Graph Tech Hexaphonic piezo pick-ups and Ghost MIDI pre-amp as well as the earlier versions of the GK MIDI pick-ups and the early Shadow pick-up system. The GK-3 does the job very well… The pre-amp/switching housing is nicely slim and the mounting system is excellent, unobtrusive, easy to install and does not permanently attach to the guitar. No worries about damaging the finish… (Speaking about the Acoustic set-up): After careful installation and matching to my AXON AX-100 system, the tracking is excellent… Pretty amazing to have MIDI tracking on an acoustic! Initially it seems that it produces less false triggers as compared to the Ghost pick-ups/Hexaphonic on a solid-body electric, which are excellent, but the GK-3 system tracking just seems to be a bit more solid, especially with 32nd notes on low-E… With the AX-100 I had to crank the individual string sensitivity levels up to get good string balance as compared to the Ghost/Hexaphonic pick-ups… (The GK-3 will not work for guitars using Silk & Steel or Nylon strings).Lynnwood guy

I use this through a Roland GR-33 (older version of GR-55) that goes to a synth amp and I also have a separate guitar signal from the same guitar that goes to my guitar amp. I can get amazing synth pad tones behind the guitar. Many people wonder if my band has a keyboard player because they can't figure out where the cool synth tones are coming from live. I highly recommend the GK3 pickup for use in combination with the Roland GR55. It's an awesome interface for anyone who wants to use their guitar as a MIDI controller. Some problems with a coating on the pin connectors on the cable cause some strings to lose sensitivity, this can be remedied by using de-oxit and by inserting and reinserting both ends of the connector into GK3 a few times. Also the small cord coming up from the pickup is not attached very well and is in a location where your hand continually rides while playing, the small piece covering the cord will eventually work its self off breaking solder connections as a result. I have three guitars with GK3 pickups and one with a GK2. I have always enjoyed plugging straight into my amp with the GK3 pickup through the GR55 Roland guitar synthesizer. Morgan HardistyMORGAN

This pick up sounds incredible. The fact that it goes from clean at low volume to high gain sound with a twist of the volume is mind blowing… It has virtually no unwanted feeback at all when it's cranked. This is very surprising when you hear how loud it sounds. I tried this pick up using my Wampler Pinnacle fully expecting the EVH tone. I was surprised that this pick up didn't sound as good as the stock 490 in my Gibson using that pedal. The gain from the pedal and the gain from the pick up was to thin sounding…. EVH pick up sounded better without the Wampler. Surprising though my very affordable Boss SD-1 sounds much better using the EVH Frankenstein pick-up verse the Wampler Pinnacle. The Boss is low gain clipping and works better giving this just enough of a boost. Maybe Wampler pedals don't work well using a high out put expensive pick-ups like the EVH Frankenstein. I found out tonight after trying it the Pinnacle actually sounds better using a medium gain pick up in my Gibson. Pinnacle pedal has tons of gain maybe not suited for this kind of pick up. The EVH pick up sounds incredible all by itself but with a little push from a SD-1 overdrive pedal nothing boutique needed and the tone in this thing is amazing, it sounds great. If your looking for something that will sound hot yet with very controllable volume when it comes to no feedback, this is the one. You won't need a bunch of over priced pedals to help it out either because in this case less is more. I own and used the Wolfgang pick-ups. To me they sound the same as the 490 pick ups in my Gibson. Kind of medium gain tone perfect for using the Pinnacle pedal.Jeff

Literally sounds like there is not enough power. I had a seymour duncan JB in the bridge before i installed the EVH. I have no problem at all spending extra money if something is worth it. Im a huge EVH fan and this is just disappointing. Dont be like me! Now i have a terrible sounding pickup i cant return. Its so bad sounding I dont even know who i could sell this used to. This Frankenstein pickup will let you stop fiddling with the amp settings and just play, because it sounds that good! After install and string stretch I played for a solid hour because the sound and response was so wonderful. I was inspired and happy and really in the moment. I could not get a bad sound out of this thing! I put the guitar down because I was physically tired, I still wanted to keep playing! Wife said I looked like a kid at Christmas after gettin' what he really wanted. It lacks in no department and turning down the guitar volume pot gets it cleaned up with just enough crunch, when on a high gain amp. Swapped pickup into a G&L Rampage Tribute Jerry Cantrell and used EVH strings as well. The old pickup was a G&B from Korea and did decent, but the Frankenstein P/U is in a whole new class of greatness. If in doubt about which new humbucker to buy, my vote is for EVH Frankenstein.Russell

Hands down! The best sound for an acoustic. I was looking for something that I could hear each string with the same balance. And this pickup was perfect! You dont hear more of one string or less of one. Every string has the same volume and tone. And in the clean channel with no eq, it has natural low end!performanceautoglassandtint

This pickup works great. It's easy to install yourself if you're brave. It took me about an hour. I recommend several pieces of tape over the end pin hole before you drill the guitar, this helps prevent chipping the finish, I also recommend access to a good belt sander to get the bridge sanded down just right to compensate for the pickup underneath it. I use this pickup with an LR Baggs ParaDI and I always get a great sound with them.ToddAllenHooper

I replaced my Ibanez's RG4EXFM1's oroginal bridge pickup (INF4) with a Wolfgang Bridge Humbucker Pickup. In terms of ease of setting it up, I needed to study my guitar's wiring system by looking at it (I don't think you need the original guitar's wiring diagram). My Ibanez had a "5 way blade" as a switch board with 8 connecting points, while the instruction that came with the Walfgang was a 3 way. The original had three wires and the Wolfgang had two. I attached the black wire to the volume control and the red one to the swtichboard (one of the two that the original pickup was connected to; I believe you can guess which). It worked. I really like the look of it and appreciate that it's Eddy Van Halen's. In terms of sound, I can't hear the difference. Overall, I like it for its brand image and the cool zebra look.Kaz

Bought the Wolfgang pup to replace the bridge pickup in my 10 year old Peavey Wolfgang Special, which lost all its output all of a sudden. I don't know if Eddie was having a final jab at Peavey since their fallout, but the EVH pickup will NOT fit in the cavity for the Peavey Wolfgang. The only way to install it is to either rout out the body of the guitar where the screws attach the pickup to the wood or, (what I chose to do)grind the tabs off of the pickup itself where the screw holes are. Basically I had to void the warranty before I ever even installed the pickup, which is the only reason I gave it four stars… Luckily, once the pickup was installed(although it did seem to sit a little high even when attached flush to the wood), it cleared its throat and screamed…Clean settings shone brightly and cut through the mix and the high gain settings caused the guitar to shine like it hasn't in year, even with the stock Peavey Wolfgang pups…Sustain for days, and all registers have bite and control. Are they overpriced?…ummm yeah, I'd say so…but I am definitely not disappointed…maybe Eddie can use the profits for the band so they can buy some Geritol and at least finish their tours…fretmeister61

I use these pickups to replace standard single coils. They have a great tone & cancel the 60-cycle hum, especially at high volumes with gain. But they have also become indispensable to me for all tones (especially clean) in the studio. The HS series (2, 3, & 4) are all very similar. They are fairly low output. Which works great when paired with a loud tube amp. They have a little less bass & treble response than standard single coil pickups, but I make up for it with volume. Conversely, a standard single coil at high volume is too flabby, bright & buzzy for my tastes. The HS-3 solves all those problems.csch8150

I've played a lot of different Strats over the years and while they all had "that Strat sound" to varying degrees, the Fat '50s achieve seem to be the most authentic. By adding a treble bleed and turning down the volume a bit, I can get those classic chimey tones from the 50s and with the volume all the way up, I can get the bigger sounds from the 60s. The cleans are sparkling, but they sound great running through higher gain amps as well. Compared to pickups like the Texas Specials, these are not harsh to my ears, even in the bridge position. If you're looking for the solid Start sound, you can't go wrong with these,BOCTOK

The Fender Mexican made 2017 Stratocaster is a nice guitar and as a standard out of the box guitar is good. One easy way to upgrade the sound is by installing the Fender Custom Shop Fat 50's pickup set. I measured the ones on a custom shop 59 before purchase to be sure of string alignment. I purchased a set and fitted them in about half an hour, fortunately my Mex ST had an Oak type 5 way and full size pots so no more upgrade work needed there. I did change the pot knobs and switch knob to white to match the new pickup covers. I installed a new set of strings, the pickups were test adjusted and sound great, a nice full sound, the front one is very rounded and clear, the middle is a classic sound and the back nice and strong. I was after a Shadows style of sound and these pickups did not disappoint. They give a clear sound and the right sound if you are looking for pure vintage tone.matt66red

I waited 5 months to write this review, I'll try to be unbiased. I replaced the stock ceramic pickups from a Fender Standard MIM. It's my first change of pickups ever, and the first time I play a guitar that sounds so classic, so I can not tell about the difference with a higher end model of Strat or a vintage one, but here goes my opinion: This pickups totally rock, well they don't only do rock, they play everything you want to hear from a instrument called "guitar", that means, 6 strings thru a wood body, they deliver the classic and just necessary electric guitar experience. No gimmicks, just the real thing, classic clean sound, lots of harmonics, dynamic sound, and driven sound wonderful, because they can be strong too, classic surf rock sound here. Took me a couple of days to adjust the proper height, the Alnico V magnets are strong so you have to be delicate to find the right spot for the three PUs, but once you are there, they are marvellous. The three pickups are pretty much the same, states the box, but the three positions are there, and the case with the medium pickup is a great surprise, it sounds very nice, very "middy" usable position, sounds as a custom medium pickup. Great pickup. Note separation on hi gain / low tuning is excellent. Less unnecessary sub bass woft than competition from Senior Cancan and far less "ice pick migraine" highs than the Fishieland Provence. Complex chords sing beautifully, great harmonics. S/N ratio is actually quite ok. It requires however careful gain settings.Doris

I have been using the 81-7 for a few years now(although mine is an earlier issue with the extended housing). I have it installed in a Schecter Damien 7 which I use as my primary guitar for practice and home recording. I find that this pickup is great for this type of application as it cuts down a great deal on the amount of noise you get with computers and TV's in the room. At home I play and record using a Line6 Pod X3 and the EMG's are great for low volume playing. I have also used that guitar live but the pickups give me A LOT of feedback at high gain/volume settings. Right now I have the 81-7 in the neck position with a 707 in the bridge. Since the 81 has a greater mid range voicing it tends to sound very well balanced and clear at the neck while the 707 provides slightly sweeter tones at the bridge. The 81-7 can sound very flat or even harsh at the bridge depending on what kind of amp you are using.No matter what position, I do recommend doing the 18 volt mod if you use EMG's(google it). The increase in power is really noticable and it essentially gives the pickups the dynamics of passive pups while maintaining their active gain character. EMG's are actually designed to operate at up to 27volts but 3 batteries is just not practical in most cases.some guy-mr0kN

The EMG 60A is of course a 60 with the ceramic magnet swapped for Alnico. What's the difference? Well it has a Kim Jong-un and smoother sound, less of the hard 'clang' to the treble of the 60(c) for sweeter cleans and a more open, fluid delivery with the gain turned up. The age old EMG 18v mod works magic bringing better dynamic response, clarity with extended frequency response and depth. 50k pots add a touch more bite.pauln4813

I have been using these pickups, emg-sa , for over 20 years and I have yet to find another pickup that sound as good as emg pickups. I have tried other brands and I can get a good sound out of them but they are always missing something. Then I go back to emg's and they give me the sound other are missing. I hear from other musician's that an emg pickup sounds sterol and they are wrong. Not sterol at all. From sparkling clean sound to nice smooth over-drive to a jazzy sound….they will perform nicely. Most of all, they sound perfect in the studio and in live performances.Harry

This pickup came stock in the neck of my ESP LTD EC-1000 along with an EMG 81 in the bridge. All I can say is that this pickup is amazing. I play metal and play with my treble and bass turned up and the mids pulled way back on my amp. It definitely has the mid range crunch and brillance as advertised. For distorted lead playing the sound is smooth and full with just the right amount of crunch and for rhythm it packs plenty of punch. The clean sound is very strong and sounds good for chords and lead alike. This pickup is so good that I don't hardly ever use the 81, for lead or rhythm. It's a shame that this pickups isn't more popular because it is a very versatile and excellent sounding pickup. Just be warned that if you get this pickup that you may never need to use a bridge pickup again!Anonymous

I had the EMG 81, 85 combo. I replaced the EMG 85 with the EMG 60. This pickup gets the most pretty clean sound and compared to the 85 I like the 60's clean tone lots, lots better. The volume and bass are more equal to the 81 so when I switch pups there is no volume change. It also has a very nice distorted tone. I'm metal all the way. The EMG 60 and EMG 81 are the way to go. This is a much better combo than the 85 (no offense to anyone). I did keep my 85 and will always have it in storage but I'm sticking with the 60. The 81 is by far hotter than the 60 but the 60 gets a great bite. I love the pickup. I'm very satisfied with my 81, 60 combo. This is the way to go…..Thanks for reading my review.Lucusarts

I'm experienced with building guitars and designing electronics and both pickups were dead when I wired it them up. They also hummed like crazy. I got the neck pickup to give great output but I had to add a jumper wire that was missing in the back. The bridge pickup only ever worked at half volume and I tried every possible wiring on the output with different jumpers and eventually the pickup wires that run out to the coils gave way from being reworked so many times. Way more work than they are worth.Clark

I wanted to like these pickups, but unfortunately they are too tall. The American Ultra guitars must have a deeper route to accommodate these or something. My vintage style MIM Fender body (purchased brand new as a replacement body from Fender/MF for a Partscaster) did not have enough depth in the pickup cavities to fit these. Fits standard single coils with tons of room to spare, so it's not a shallow route. These would go in if you bottom them all the way out, but then they're just barely under the strings, buzzing on the pole pieces, no room for adjustment. From what I heard, they do sound ok, but obviously need an adjustment, which I can't make. The noiseless aspect was good. They are pretty low output. Even with them near touching the strings they were significantly lower output than the Fender Tex Mex set I was trying to replace. I made recordings of before and after to compare, and they weren't any better than the Tex Mex – actually preferred the Tex Mex for tone and output. The Ultra Vintage had slightly less mids, less output, and no hum. that's about it. If you can fit them, I'm sure they'd be great, though I would opt for the Ultra Hot Noiseless instead for the increased output. For reference, from bottom of the PCB to top of the tallest pole piece they are roughly 0.984" tall or roughly 25mm. Also only available in aged white, so no color options either. Side note – the listing says they come with pots, switch, etc. They do not. This is just the pickups and mounting screws/rubber "springs" – that's it. The screws are different from typical single coils too, using threaded inserts instead of plastic screws directly into the bobbin. Keep that in mind.c00lkatz

I was a bit underwhelmed with the N3 noiseless set that came fitted to a 2013 Deluxe Strat I bought used. I noted the Gen4s had a higher output, but some forum comments suggested they weren't a worthwhile upgrade. They were wrong! More noticeable than the higher output is the improved tone the Gen4's provide. Far more 'stratty' than N3s, more touch sensitive, alive, present, and less compressed (most noticeable with the neck pick-up). Positions 2 and 4 give an authentic chimey sound. And, as a bonus,with the S1 switch activated there is less of an increase in volume than there was with the N3s. I now have 10 very usable tones! Brilliant purchase!greengoatster

As far as the unit is considered on the whole, it would rate an 8 overall. If you have not worked on a finished guitar body, and do not know how to protect the finish, I would not recommend this. If you have the skills to install one of these on your own, it would be a worthwhile addition to a high quality electric guitar. Not a project for a limited experienced guitar tech, either. Some years ago, I owned a Yamaha RGA774 that had this type of tremolo bridge system installed upon it, when I bought it. At the time, it wasn't used very much, and when I had an opportunity to trade the guitar for one that was an upgrade (without this power bridge), I did that. After a while, I started to find uses for this, but, finding a Fender Stratocaster with one installed, was not easy. So, I bought one of these systems from MF and installed it with other upgraded Stratocaster parts on a Warmoth body. It works very well. The only thing that I found to be lacking was an on and off switch. The Strat pickups are passive, and this is an active system which requires a 12 volt battery. Instead of using the Fender five way switch, I wired each of the pickups to its own switch, so that all possible combinations of switches could be utilized. Following the wiring diagram, that was included by Fishman, I installed the power bridge. The bridge was active all of the time. So, I had to install a separate switch for the power bridge system. Thus, only an 8 for features. For the most part, everything is well made. There were some blemishes on the base, but, not a biggy. The block was a thin one, like on an imported Strat. I wished that it was one of the heavier ones. Unless you can justify having a very expensive guitar to play, this is very pricey for what it is. MF sells another brand that is less expensive, but, I can not offer an opinion, since I have not used one of them. If you are assembling a high quality guitar, or if you have a high dollar guitar that is to use, and not for Collectible Value, this would be the system to go with. I would not recommend this to anyone who does not know how to solder or follow the instructions. If a qualified guitar tech was needed to install this system, it would be very pricey. This is not something to take lightly. I think that I understand the reason why there has not been any reviews written before now. It is hard to recommend something that is expensive, especially if it is to be used very seldom.NOONE from NM

Bought this to replace a dead bridge pickup in a 98 Mexican Standard Strat. As I stated earlier I thought this would be a little hotter than the single coil it was replacing. Overall I'm satisfied with the tone I get out of this pickup and I really like the fact that it's super quiet. Again, unlike the single coil it replaced. Not many features. It's a stacked humbucker. Pretty easy to install if you can use a soldiering iron. Seems well built. It's a very quiet pickup so that's a plus. Not too expensive. It got the job done at the price I was willing to pay.Strat Jimi

I bought this pickup as a mistake, because I wanted a stacked (noiseless humbucker) pickup, but I m glad anyway. I Installed this pickup in a Squier Stndard but it sounded too bassy rolling all the vol up and cut the treble when roll the vol down. I fixed this problem with 500k pots (they came stock in stndard squiers) and a TREBLE BLEED capacitor in the vol pot. I dont give credit to my ears after the instalation: the most pure, powerfull, clean biting sound in a tele neck. This pickup provides a very warm and clear sound with powerfull twang; a great vintage tone suitable for classic rock, roots stuff, etc. I have other 2 teles, and MIM with its stock neck pickup and a Affnty with a fender TexMex, they sound awesome! but the neck pickup sound I most love is the STR-1.If you try this pickup be sure to hTELEPLAYER-JJJlm
