Dusty Hill Bass Guitar For Sale (2024 Update)

After the initial COVID lockdown I landed a gig where I had to have a 5 string bass. So like a red blooded American I took my cash down to the local GC store to buy a fender 5 string American jazz. There wasn't any. I looked for an Ibenez. There wasn't any. I looked for anything and we'll there wasn't any. As the date grew near for our first show, I happened in and they had this one. I was disappointed that this was all there was, but out of desperation, I bought it thinking I would trade it once something I wanted became available. It took me about two months and 10 gigs later when I realized I love this thing. 9 months in and I don't know how many dates later, I wouldn't want to live without it. It plays awesome after a quick and minor setup on the action. The tone is big on the bottom and the mids and highs are as shapable as you want. It is a dream to play and guess what, when I finally got to put my hands on the fender I wanted, I didn't want it anymore. This bass is very much like the high end Ibenez basses. Probably too much for Ibenez's liking actually. I run through a 800w mark bass head with a 2×10 cab and a 1×15 cab. It sounds incredible. The big thing for me is when I run through my amp using the direct out in bypass, it sounds amazing. It is like having a sans amp in the bass. The electrics are that good. I have gotten tons of compliments on the tone and questions about how I got it. I literally just plugged it in. Also I can play it all night and even though it is a five, I am less fatigued then when I play the four fender American jazz I already own. The string spacing and scale I believe is responsible for that. If you are serious about playing a 5 string, at any level, then this bass is one you should look at. I am not super crazy about the esthetics but I get a surprising amount of complements on it. So if that is your thing then rock on I guess. I am getting over the fact that I was a fender snob. My one only bass for the past 20 years has been a Ibanez SR405 (2001 year model). I feel like I've purchased a big upgrade with this Jackson X Series Spectra. In comparison to the Ibanez, the Jackson's neck is fatter, lower fret sizes are slightly wider and the string spacing is slightly wider. The playability is a lot smoother for my larger fingers/hands. The pickups and active EQ systems are powerful. Need to have some amp/di box control to contain the powerful output when in smaller venues. I use the passive pickup control when in smaller venues and small churches. I feel that what sets this apart from other basses I've tried is how great it sounds to play the d and g strings as well as going above the 12th fret. The stock strings (D'Addario) sound really pretty when playing the higher octaves. The Elixir strings I'm currently using give the B string a BIG SMOOTH THUMP. For those worried about setup out of the box, I live in high altitude. Setup post manufacturer is usually a must because of that. I have been able to get fairly low action without fret buzz after casually messing with adjustments.Zach

Overall: I got this bass as an early Father's Day gift to myself and also for hitting my two year mark in the Air Force. I would consider myself a beginner bassist but I have some experience on guitar and setting up both, including electronics. After a string change and adjusting the truss rod, this thing plays like butter. I also had to file a few sprouting fret ends, but that's normal where I live. I may change out the cheap pots, but the pickups sound great. Nicest playing bass I've played.Michael

Overall: I had an earlier version of this same make and model for years (and loved it), but it was recently stolen. Rather than looking around for another (make, model, etc), I went back to what I knew… and loved. I purchased this newer version, and love it! With the added features, it has a richer, deeper sound than my old version, but still the same, great play-ability – like having my old friend back. It is a great mid-priced bass guitar!Bruce

I no longer play in public or on a regular schedule so I gifted my handbuilt bass to my son. I was intrigued with this offering from Peavey and the price was reasonable. Spent a few minutes adjusting things to my style of play when it arrived and spent the next 2 hours playing old bass lines. The tone is very versatile and the neck has a smooth, non-stick finish which is a delight to play. There was zero hum with the electronics and the finish is stunning. At present, I'm very happy with this purchase. Online time will tell how well it holds up after a few years down the road. I would recommend this bass to anyone that is either entry level or someone who just want to enjoy playing in the privacy of their own home.madmex35

I've been Thumping for over 40 years. I needed a bass to fill in while my regular rigs are in transit to a new location. This bass is nice and tight. I ran it through a complete setup and only had to adjust string height. This is my first Peavey, and I love it! Great tone, nice action. I've got units that cost a lot more and this thing sounds better than some of them!davlen2000

If you are tired of searching for a professional sound buy this bass. I hated the mim fender deluxe model, but fender did something special with this bass. It has a clear piano like quality to it. My two sire basses sound like toys up against it. I have wasted so much money on lesser basses. I'm just trying to help my fellow bass players out there. Everyone says that I sound good playing my other basses, but there are certain ugly overtones that I don't want to hear in my bass. This bass doesn't have those unwanted frequencies, it is voiced beautifully. I know that most of tone is in the fingers, but at the end of the day you know what you want to hear. If you are an audiophile this is the bass for you. I have spent weeks demoing this bass and no matter what amp you run it through it sounds good. I played it at a church last week and all I can say is it was nasty. My wife ordered mine yesterday for my birthday and it's suppose to arrive today, fingers crossed.Eric

I've owned and played bass guitars for 30 years now and I've owned several fender basses and the myriad clones out there of the J and P basses. That history and background left me with a bias against fender and an eye for other "better" production guitars like the Stingray which is my other go-to bass. That being said, I am blown away by this bass. It is a SOLID instrument with no flaws or blemishes that I can detect. It came from the factory with an almost perfect setup. I had to make a minor intonation adjustment on the low B and E strings but the string height, pickup height, and neck position were perfect. Fender's Ultra Noiseless pickups (a stacked humbucker really) sound great in passive mode emphasizing a fat bottom end and the tone nob adds a good bit of mids. The highs are kinda meh for me but the active switch takes care of that and I can get as bright as I want. The 18v active preamp provides a lot of room to boost or cut low, mid, and high frequencies to get just about any sounds I want (I still prefer my Sting Ray if I want to get real funky). This is about the best sounding 5-string I've had. Most 5-strings sounds great as 4-strings and SUPER muddy when you work the low-b string but this bass brings it out without too much mud.T. DeWees

I bought this base back in April 2022. It sounds great and plays great. However, the front pickup recently quit all together. After a tech looked at it, it was discovered that it was a bad front pickup. It was beyond the store warranty, so I took it up with fender. After 2 weeks of going back and forth between them and the store that I bought it at, it was determined that fender would send the pickup to the technician if my choice and they would fix it. But it would take 30 days because they send it directly from the manufacturer. Which still boggles my mind, because the slowest mail would be less than a week? So my opinion of fender customer service has dropped considerably. A working musician doesn't have 30 days to do without their instrument. This is unacceptable. I decided to purchase the pickup myself. I can get it in the mail in 2 days, and put it in myself. However this is a great base if you happen to get one with good parts in itJerry

I bought mine new and it's everything positive others say about it. Don't know what bobz429 is talking about. Obviously he has a modified model. Hardware is first rate with a Hagstrom designed P90 single coil at the neck and classic '58C humbucker at the bridge (Hagstrom winds their own pickups). It's a joy to play, very clean factory pups, beautiful finish, very well crafted and flawless. Rivals guitars up to 3 times the cost in my opinion. The Hagstrom composite Resinator fret board is fast and has good sustain. This guitar can be used for jazz with very clean articulation and voicing, moan the blues, fit right into classic or grunge rock and growl with the best of 'em throughout it's entire range. The ringing clarity is stunning! It's a lot of bang for your buck, and lighter than you'd think for a guitar with a 28" scale. A "tad" neck-heavy balance wise, but once you play it and realize it's potential from mild to wild, this is easily overlooked and by "no means" a deal breaker. It has 5 star ratings across the board for a reason. It's simply that good! This is a players guitar and one I'll keep the rest of my life. It will surprise and please you once you plug it in. This is an amazing baritone. Plug it in, crank it up, and jam 'til the cows come home! If your in the marketfor a baritone guitar, the Hagstrom Viking Deluxe is very hard to beat! With more than 15yrs. of experience with various Hagstrom guitars and over 40yrs. of playing and performing, this instrument and review was an unexpected and a very pleasant surprise. I will acknowledge that I was prompted to pull the trigger on the purchase in no small part because of a couple of reviews here on MFI, one by a fellow who is an American musician living in Sweden. From what I was able to glean from a collection of YouTube videos from past NAMM shows, it looks like the Viking DLX 12 made it's debut about 2016, and has had at least one major update since, with the most notable being larger, but traditional-shaped F-holes on the top, fully creme bound, of course. I very much agree with the opinion previously expressed about there being a major advantage for Hagstrom because of their sourcing all woods(primarily Canada)and all hardware and electronics, leaving their factory contractors in China to concentrate on building the best looking/sounding instrument possible. I would place current Hagstrom product on a par with anything from the Park factories in Korea, and nearly on par with some of the older product that came from Matsumoko in Japan. IMHO, and as pointed out by a previous reviewer, the only real contenders in this narrow category of instrument are the hollowbody Ric 300 Series, and the current Gretsch Electromatic 5422-12, both of which are 2-3X the cost of a new Viking DLX 12. Pickups are clear voiced but fairly hot, and the Resonator fretboard feels great and works with the overall timbre of a maple bodied guitar. The bookmatched flame maple body sides, top, and back are a sight to behold; laminated but beautiful. The most playable and comfortable neck I have EVER put in my hand for a 12-string; a profile similar to an early 60's Gibson or modern ESP being "thin", but with a 15" radius and a 45mm black Tusq nut. Perfect for chording and rhythm, but enough room between string pairs for either finger or flatpicking with precision. Get ItArch69er

It caught my eye hanging in my local Guitar Center in Goodlettsville, TN, which has a terrific staff btw. I asked to try it and was quite impressed with the overall build quality and set-up. Simply perfect; action, intonation, fret dressing, etc. It didn't need a thing! Thought about it overnight and returned the next day to buy it.Alan

After doing a ton of research, I made the Rockbass Corvette my first bass purchase about 4 yrs ago. Love this bass. Especially for the price. At the time, I couldn't really appreciate the quality of this instrument, but now that I've been playing for a while and have had a chance to play around with multiple instruments, I have to say, this bass is wonderful. You can get plenty of great tones from it and it always maintains a beefy, meaty sound. It's lightweight. It's sexy. And can take some abuse. I always found it a little difficult to play near the bridge pickup (it's so tight down there, it's been hard to get a good sound), but I'm actually having mine adjusted professionally right now, so hopefully, when I get it back, things will be a little better. Either way, if you're on the fence about getting this bass, I'd suggest getting one. Definitely worth the money, in my humble opinion.WOOT

I went into the shop to look at other basses and picked this up whilst they were being prepared. It felt amazing straight away, excellent action, I didn't think I would like the very flat (compared to an Ibanez) fingerboard but within a couple of minutes it just felt right. The sound is outstanding, the massive MEC pickups give it real power and growl. The build quality is excellent, it is difficult to put objectively but you can tell the difference between the Pro and Rockbass series and the extra cost for the Pro is worth it. It comes with a User Kit (tools, cloth, straplocks) and a really good case (better than any non-hard/flight case I've seen on the market). I tried the other basses but kept on coming back to this. Nearly a month on and I am so pleased I bought this, it is lovely to look at but begs to be played (I am even allowed to keep it in the front room!). I know Warwick have been criticized in the past for quality and playability – definitely not the case now, I can't see me seriously looking at another bass for a good few years.Reviewed by Andertons Music Co.

Warwick lives up to its standards, and this afordable model is a true testament on what Warwick basses are all about. I purchased the natural model and the wood alone is amazing! It's got a nice weight to it and the neck is smaller in width compared to other basses. The humbucker pickups makes this bass a beast sound wise. Incredible for slap players. It has three knobs that control the pick ups to a sound you're comfortable and happy with. You can pull the knobs upward and push down so you have full control of the pickups. The bass is passive so no need to worry about purchasing a 9 volt battery. It also comes with the lock strap hardware and tools to for adjustment. You may want to adjust the bridge because the strings have a slight buzz, and don't forget to stretch out the strings that come with the bass. Overall, the bass is built with pride and it does not dissapoint! For those that can't afford the German models, this is definitely the best 2nd alternative for those who want a Warwick.Dino

Yamaha TRBX174EW is a great bass. It has a very balanced and versatile tone. I bought it with a pickups upgrade in mind after watching YouTube videos, but decided not to as soon as I played it. Looks great and sounds very nice.Alex

I'm really a 99% guitar player and only 1% bass player but I am completely satisfied with this bass for my purposes. I like to make guitar videos on you tube and honestly , I only even play the bass to add fullness to the sound. For not being a professional musician the price I paid for this bass is a great deal. ( This sight won't let me type in how much ?!?) I get exactly what I want out of it. I find it easier to play ( good action ) than my last similarly priced bass and it sounds good. If I could play like Geddy Lee or Steve Harris ( my 2 fav bass players ) maybe I'd spend more money. But this bass is plenty good enough to learn songs , practice on , or even play it in a local band. I've played in a few local/garage type bands and I would have no problem using or letting someone else use this bass for a show. Unless you are a professional I would definitely recommend this bass.scott b

This bass is great, I bought it used not too long ago with Ernie Ball strings. I went in looking for a Warwick or Ibanez or something like that but this one was recommended to me and I loved the sound of it. Definately worth the money.Unknown

First off, this is a high-quality bass. I love 5-string basses. The look of this bass is unique in a suberb way. If you play around a little, you can get a low thunder-like rumble out of a decent amp. However, the only thing which I don't paticularly care for is the frets. They stick out a bit on the bottom and have sharp edges, so they can tear up your hands if you arn't careful. While the cuts are annoying, they arn't painful. All in all, this is a high quality bass.Some random guy

Amazing bass for the $$. Smooth neck and balanced lightweight body. I have the graphite black with little sparklies. Just beautiful. First I should warn you that there is a quality-control issue with recent batches of the Embassy Pro – the bridge is positioned too far forward so it can't be intonated properly (the E-string 12th-fret harmonic was about a semitone flat compared to the fretted note even with the saddle as far back as it could go). This isn't Rimmers' fault as it was shipped straight from Gibson's DC and they were great about organising the return. Tuning problems notwithstanding, the bass plays smoothly and has a really rich, aggressive tone – depending on the strings you use, it can go from a hard-rock Rickenbacker clang to deep, subby reggae sounds. I found it hard to sound subtle or laid-back though, so I wouldn't recommend it for groove-oriented styles. But if you're in an avant-garde punk band, the dodgy tuning might even be an asset…Martin

Not sure if there are many minuses to this bass; its an old school 20 fret P bass kind of neck beast. The tone control works well and I like the passive pan, rather than a toggle or two volumes. Heavy duty humbucker tones but not muddy like an SG, still retins some P bass sound. (cant comment on bridge pu i dont use it) Back of neck is slick, I dont mind, some may apply sandpaper to make it matte. Overall QC seems good. Weight is decent at 8.3lbs, balance not bad if slung low, doesnt seem neck heavy. Bridge isnt great but a lot better than the fatal Gibson 3 point bridge. Lots to like at a sweet Epiphone price!Go Brady

If you want a premium bass for a mid level price this is the one! I bought this because I play in a Pantera tribute and as we know Rex loved Spector and now I know why. This thing is beautiful solid and heavy constructed but well balanced. It feels like power in your hands. Excellent tone controls and a great feel, cannot recommend enough. This is the fourth bass I've owned, and I am quite satisfied with it. My one complaint with it is that the pots are loose and don't have a center detente. But that's nothing that new pots and a soldering iron won't fix so I'm not bothered by it. I also bought it used; it could be a singularity but other people have had some trouble with the electronics. But this thing is passive and re soldering it is a walk in the park. I absolutely love the tone variety that I can get from this bass. With new strings on and on a bridge heavy tone you can coax out that signature Warwick growl using fingers or a pick; both sound good. It isn't a one trick pony though, if panned onto the neck you can get a nice fat sound that is sufficiently toned down but not so much so that you get lost in the mix. If you have both pickups at a similar level, you get a good balance of tone. I vastly prefer the placement of the pickups so you get a more ballsy sound than from something like my Schecter Stiletto. I also like that a tone knob is used instead of an onboard EQ- it's simpler but just as versatile especially when still figuring out the tone that you like. I put Power Slinkys on as soon as I got it and they work great. I play through a Hartke LH500 into a 1×15 cab, the only effects I use are a Xotic RC booster and an MxR comp. I love both, the comp is an always on pedal for me and the RC booster really brings this thing to life and gives it a little extra body and oomph so you really cut through the mix. I haven't tried this thing with distortion yet, so I can't speak to that if that's something you're looking into. This thing really can do just about anything; I played it in church and the sound guy loved it and I play hard rock/ metal tunes for fun at home and it rocks for both. Word of warning though, if you're used to covered pickups the open magnets may throw you if you're used to plucking pretty hard (guilty). Bottom line, if you want a versatile bass that tends toward an aggressive tone, buy this. Try and find one used, it's a much better deal. I don't know that I would've bought this at the new price. I would advise playing one in person first; I picked up a Warwick at a store a few years ago and didn't like it but then picked this one up recently in store and loved it. So it isn't for everyone. But for the price, the tones you get from this thing are real hard to beat, even if you buy new.Ajgriff

Overall: This is my second RockBass by Warwick. I must say, I’m even more impressed with this one than my last one. First, it looks even better in real life. The natural finish is what I prefer on instruments. Besides looking awesome, the lack of a lacquered finish means your wrist shouldn’t stick if you’re sweating. I mean the bass looks like a big chunk of wood with some strings and electronics, need I say more? The wood really gives this bass the distinctive tone that I personally love. Alder has a great brightness to it. This means I can really make this bass sing. Having that much natural high, even the EQ flat, means this bass is incredibly bright. Don’t get me wrong, the MEC pickups play a big role. A good allegory being “the wood is like the water, while the electronics are the coffee beans” or the other way around. Lastly it plays extremely slick. Warwick uses a 3D adjustable bridge, as well as having the adjustable nut. This allows the player basically every possible avenue to set this bass up perfectly. It may take some practice to get all the adjusting nuances down but it’s worth the practice. These RockBasses really are great. They fill the gap for people like me who are great players that haven’t met band mates yet thusly, don’t necessarily have the reason/means to get a $5,000 Thumb or Streamer. I love this bass, in just a month it has already become an extension of me. I can’t ask for more.Alex

All it really needed was a lowering of the bridge overall, to get the string height / action right. Also I HATE round wound strings, so had to put on flatwounds, now it's perfect. If only the bass Gtr manufacturers realized the flat-wound strings actually make people want to play for longer, they might sell more basses. Overall: I have owned a German-made Warwick Fortress One Masterman for nearly 20 years. I have always loved the tone and playability of this particular instrument. With this in mind, I was in the hunt for a back-up 4 string bass for a 3 piece acoustic gig. I knew that I did not want a used piece, but perhaps a new, entry level model Yamaha or Ibanez as a suitable back-up. I was close to getting the trbx505 Yamaha for about $500.00. So when I price comparison shopped online, I came across this beautiful Warwick RockBass Corvette $$. What?? 8 payments, No interest, No credit. I was tempted to give this a try and man am I ever glad that I did. 4 days after my order was completed, this brand new, factory sealed Warwick in my hands. The playability is much like the Fortress one German bass and the tone and sustain of this beauty is absolutely remarkable. Serial to parallel switching in both volume pots, and tone enhance on another pot. The high and low mids are exceptional. the dual humbuckers (passive) offer a very punchy low growl at higher volumes. Use a compressor/enhancer and you will be in hog heaven as I was. I you are loyal to the Warwick brand and have not tried a RockBass, you might be very suprised. The balance, weight, adjust-a-nut III, 3pc bridge bring a very familiar feel to the German counterparts. M.E.C. electronics are the same as well. Now, with the comparisons aside this Warwick Rockbass does just that, it Rocks the Bass.Best bang for the Double Buck out there.I am very satisfied with my purchase to this point and zZounds made it all possible.Thanks guys!!!!! Some advice, play as many basses at your local guitar vendor that you can, ask questions, settle on the sound and feel that you want, then go for it.Thomas

Overall: okay i'm going to get this out of the way right now, QC needs to be stepped up on these quick. my tuning machines are loose (they are not only not tight on the headstock but the bolts that hold them in place are loose as well) nothing damaged just not tightened all the way, the neck pickup pot had a read bad crackle to it when using it, and for some reason there are ALOT of metal shavings stuck to my pickups. those out of the way i still ADORE this bass. i had an older 5 string jazz version and it sounded wonderful but was VERY neck heavy. this is not the case as the body is not really heavy but.. i'll say robust. there's no neck dive i find and the neck, frets, and body were flawless. it plays and feels like a dream.the reason i don't care or can write off the pot and pickups having metal on them so quickly is cause i had no intention of keeping the stock ones anyways. those are already switched out. i can say there's enough room to make this an active provided you don't plan on using an onboard preamp. in closing i guess i can say that i do feel they really need to step up (or wake up) on the QC, but after that it plays amazing, sounds amazing, and feels amazing. i've wanted this bass for some time and have no intention of ever losing it.Donald

great warm fender cleans. reverb is excellent. gain channels suprisingly good. plenty of volume. well built. simple to use. dont use pedals anymore but i hear its a good platform. i got it to plug straight in and play. when your pressed for time and dont have hours a day to scree around with the levels this will give you great tone fast with no hassle dialing it in. great valuethe cheese

Great Fender tube sound, spring reverb. Loud, bright clean tones, plenty of headroom. 2 adjustable levels of gain/distortion. 2 12in Celestion speakers. Pine cabinet like the old twins, lighter better sound. Takes pedals like delays power amp in/preamp out. The choice of lots of pros for good reason. Absolutely love this amp.Jon

Ordered a Warwick Corvette B-stock. That is what I got. Blemish was identified with tape arrow. Minor crack in finish at neck joint. Super hard to see. I had to do the set up for string height, neck relief and saddle height which was easy with the instructions and the multi adjustable bridge, nut and truss rod. I didn't feel a need to adjust the nut. Maybe a first timer would be reluctant to adjust their new bass but I think try it, you're not going to hurt it unless you crank really hard on something. Package came double boxes and labeled "fragile". It was a good thing too because there was a 1" diameter hole in the outer box. Other than that the boxes was in great shape. guitar was wrapped carefully with factory wrapping. Shipping was a little longer than I am used to (about a week from day I ordered to day I got it) but it came from across the country. Great experience.Mjbehrendt

It has three knobs that control the pick ups to a sound you're comfortable and happy with. You can pull the knobs upward and push down so you have full control of the pickups. The bass is passive so no need to worry about purchasing a 9 volt battery. It also comes with the lock strap hardware and tools to for adjustment. You may want to adjust the bridge because the strings have a slight buzz, and don't forget to stretch out the strings that come with the bass. Overall, the bass is built with pride and it does not dissapoint! For those that can't afford the German models, this is definitely the best 2nd alternative for those who want a Warwick.Dino

The bass has excellent tone. Was exactly what I expected. Was not happy about the loose tuning peg which buzzes from the vibration of the strings, but will find a way to make it stop. Fret buzz on the A and D string on the first fret of each one is an issue which leads me to believe that the nut is not properly fitted. Pickup buzz from the lower bridge pickup will mean that I will not be able to record with this bass. That being said, for practice and jamming purposes it will definitely be ok. I ordered this bass because I was looking to emulate a particular sound (I'm in a tribute band). It's a beautiful instrument and sounds great. It stays in tune pretty well. My only minor complaint it is that it is a little unbalanced (probably because it's hollowbody), so the neck will dive if you're not supporting it with your fret hand. Other than that, I love it. On a side note, we were messing around and I got a lot of crazy feedback from it by putting it up to my amp with delay and overdrive on.D-Hook

It caught my eye hanging in my local Guitar Center in Goodlettsville, TN, which has a terrific staff btw. I asked to try it and was quite impressed with the overall build quality and set-up. Simply perfect; action, intonation, fret dressing, etc. It didn't need a thing! Thought about it overnight and returned the next day to buy it.Alan
