Having been messing around with an acoustic for far too many years I decided to treat myself to an electric, and started the search for an amp. I had a few options but went with the Crush 20RT and haven't regretted it. For its size the sound quality is great, and the eq controls allow you to get a nice range of distinct tones. Having the dirty volume away from the gain dial takes some getting used to, but isn't a deal-breaker, and if you find the rather small switch to swap between clean and dirty channels a bit fiddly, you can pick up a foot switch which connects nicely on the back of the amp. Built in reverb is nice, but if you are big on using reverb I'd imagine you'd want to get a dedicated pedal. Tuner seems hit and miss, and again more accurate results will be obtained via a stand alone product. Both good features to have, especially as a starter amp. Overall, highly recommended!Kevin E.
This is definitely the best sounding practice amp I've ever used. The gain channel has several different levels of gain, all sound great. Anywhere from a slightly crunchy overdrive sound to sizzling distortion. I've never had an amp this size handle metal tones so well. The clean channel handles distortion pedals well and maintains the tone of the amp, and if you wanna add a little something extra, putting an overdrive in front of the dirty channel really pushes the mids through. All very impressive for an 8 inch speaker.

Now let me first state that Guitar Center is the only place I'd buy this from, to try it out and return it to the store. Guitar Center is the BEST. This little amplifier is the WORST. I bought this specifically for it's cabinet output and the fact that it can run on a 9 volt battery. I own four other mini amplifiers, two of them are pedals and the other two are Blackstar Fly 3 (with the extension cabinet.) Here's the crux of my review: The Blackstar Fly 3 is louder and sounds far better than the Orange Crush Mini, even if that Crush Mini is powering a larger speaker cabinet (a 2×10, in this case.) So yes, two 3" speakers in the Blackstar are louder, and the sound quality is far superior to the Orange Crush Mini driving a 2×10" cabinet. The Crush Mini's 3" speaker is unusable, sounds very tinny and is very low volume. Now, I also have two pedal amps that run on 9 volts, an Electro Harmonix 5mm and a VHT Redline 6. The 5mm is amazing, and the VHT is very good also. So if you want to drive a cabinet with a pedal size amp you can put in your pocket, try the Electro Harmonix 5mm. The VHT Redline is also very good and has the added features of an aux in jack and headphone out jack. An adapter cable to use a battery can be had (I have a few of them.) Avoid the Orange Crush Mini, the Blackstar Fly 3 is far superior.John

Unbelievable. This is NOT my Vox AC30, and nor is it my 100W Katana. However, for a package that is powered by batteries and can, quite literally, fit into the palm of your hand, the Katana Mini is simply fantastic. The amp models are brilliant and the delay (reverb) function is an excellent feature. On "clean" settings the volume of the amp is perfectly adequate and will fill a room with no issues, and on the "crunch" and "brown" settings, the amp was more than loud enough to fill a large room at 2/3 volume. Whilst I personally think that this is not quite enough for an advanced/intermediate players sole amplifier, I would completely agree that for a beginner, they would need no more than this. Having tried options from Yamaha and other brands, this is firmly my favourite battery powered micro amplifier for any level of guitarist and equipment, the tone is simply that good! The best way I can describe it is this – when I first plugged my PRS McCarty 594 into it, I was vaguely aware that I wasn't playing through my Vox. However, after five minutes or so, I had completely forgotten this wasn't a "real" amp, and had to keep looking down at the tiny box on the floor to believe it! Well done, Boss!Mr I. F.
Overall: I've been a bass player since 83 and just picked up the guitar a year or two ago. I purchased a guitar a few months ago and didn't have funds for an amp. So, after watching countless vids and reading many reviews, I favored this one the most. No local stores had a katana under 50w so, the payment plan zZounds had was perfect and received this little beast on Wednesday. With that said, no vid or review could compare to the hands on experience. For a 7w amp, this truly is a must have and the sound is 100% phenomenal. I'm personally not into effect pedals and what features this amp has, is just enough for me. The delay is just right as well as clean/crunch and brown features. The only problem that I have is, though it comes with 6 AA batteries, the adapter would've been more preffered.Other than that, I highly reccomend this amp to everyone, and would highly recommend zZounds payment plans (if your credit card qualifies) and customer service is great tooOne more thing, it's a lot smaller than I thought and that's one of the many reasons why I reccomend this to everyone.
I use it primarily as a practice amp at lower levels, but I'd feel confident doing coffee house gigs with it, and maybe smaller clubs too. It sounds warm and rich at low volumes, and the EQ is effective. All three voices are useful and I'm not left wanting. I have to make special mention of the delay. I adore reverb (including and especially spring reverb and gritty, trashy reverb of all kinds) but a simple delay circuit is way more useful in this amp. Doubling, slapback, echoes. The treble roll-off and fixed feedback are well-tuned. If you're using this for busking or other guerilla performance, you will suddenly realize that a single delay is worth more than a thousand reflections, because those reflections sound godawful* against naturally-occurring surfaces. *maybe awesome in a sound design way thoughChesterfleet

If you're expecting an amazing Marshall sound, you might want to invest in some of the bigger amps Marshall has to offer. If you think you can get a concert level sound out of this little guy, you will not be the happiest person. However, that level of "high" expectation would not be very reasonable or even realistic for such a little amp. This is a very cute, small amp that will help you plug your guitar so you can practice quietly in any room in your house without annoying your wife. It will distort if you crank the volume all the way out, and if you're used to the full sound of a bigger Marshall (like I do) it might make you feel like you're hearing your guitar over an old telephone (just my opinion). However, if you calibrate your instrument volume & tone you can find a happy medium. With that said, for the price it is a very nice solution to practice and if the sound seems too weak for you, you have the choice of putting headphones. I personally use it just for practice on the fly, it serves it purpose, but then again I was not expecting the best sound output. So I am happy with the purchase.BeeZee
It's basically a toy amp. I can see it being used as a portable amp for non-serious performance. Personally, I like it for a quick jam and for (relatively) quiet practice in my apartment setting. Won't disturb my neighbors but it does get noticeable at the highest volume. That and the overdrive knob are the two main controls. By default it just does a clean sound but overdrive lets you toggle in some gain for that distortion. It has a good look that definitely models after its bigger brothers.Rick
I don't know what some of you guys expect from this thing, but be realistic: it's an inexpensive 5 inch tall, 1 watt amp. It's not designed for anything but sitting in a chair and entertaining yourself or a couple of people. Within that context, I enjoy this thing and sometimes get it off the shelf and play around with it for awhile. Also, when I owed somebody a 1 minute long riff for his podcast and my main amp was getting some regular tech service, I plugged my American Standard Strat into this thing, mic'd the amp, used the OD channel with the volume and tone both on 10, played the part, then added tons of bass, reverb, and chorus to it in post, and it sounded great and nobody ever knew that I recorded the part using a 5 inch tall amp. A brilliant wee amp, which packs a hell of a lot more than the 20w on the spec. You can really crank it. I was sceptical before I bought it, seeing it’s more marketed to the ‘metal’ players among us. I play some metal, but hard, bluesy overdriven tones is what I like to play more than metal. It can really go for the scooper mids metal tone as well as a lower end bluesy tone. So it caters for all. I bought this as a little practice amp that I can use primarily as a clean pedal platform at home for late night playing, and it works fantastic for this. Better than I'd hoped. It's very, very loud, so I used an EQ pedal in the FX loop with the level slider all the way down. The Orange dirt sound isn't totally my thing but I do like to mess around with it now and then, and this thing scratches that itch without having to spend a bunch of money on a bigger Orange head. Quite surprised at how great this is. I've tried some other solid state clean pedal platform solutions, and this Micro Dark has probably been the best of them. For context, I hit it with a Friedman BE-OD, Wampler Pantheon, & Spark Booster and all sound just as they are intended to sound. It's a great amp for very little money for sure!KC
Sound: As a stand alone amp it's best suited for people that play classic rock, hard rock, acoustic music, Doom metal, Stoner metal, Sludge metal, Jazz or anything that you're looking for a warm fuzzy sound. I also play through at least a 112 cab, anything less sounds lousy these days. Quality: As for the construction I have no complaints. Value: Actually if I had to do it all over again I would have went with the Joyo ZOMBIE which has more features and sounds far better for metal or had forked out a little more for a Monoprice amp which is a full tube amp. If you go on YouTube to get a review of this amp please be careful who you go to because a lot of the reviews make this amp sound far far better than it really is. When playing high gain this amp without the right pickups, speakers, micing placement, post processing and/or pedals used that the reviewers conveniently never mention will sound way too bassy, fizzy and muddy. It's not to say this is always a bad, I know people that love this amp for doom, stoner and sludge metal for high gain and other that love it because they're not modern metal players that need a tight response.5. In order to get this amp to play modern metal that actually sounds good(not an Ola Englund post processed video with great pickups and speakers) you'll need a Tube Screamer(or a good Tube Screamer clone), at least a 112 cab and preferably an EQ ion the FX loop to iron out any bad frequencies. A noise gate would be a plus because when driving with all this stuff your rig may make a lot of unwanted noise.6. Only one channel, but you can't always expect much for an inexpensive amp.7. Lastly it would have been good if Orange included a aux in for jamming with other song and drum beats.

I bought this amp to use in a limited space and at a low volume for very low cost. It obviously doesn't compare to a normal size amp in quality but for being a practice amp it is perfect. Many reviews across the web say it loses power or sounds bad after a short time, but its literally as simple as changing the battery in my case. The manual even says to change the battery if there is an issue with sound, and the battery that comes with it isn't really the best and doesn't last long. It has great sound at a low and mid range volume for the little power it actually has but when you ramp it up it does sound a little distorted but not bad at all for $23-$29. While you certainly could use it in the studio for certain alt/auxiliary tones and/or layers and achieve fantastic results (producer/artist discretion advised), It's not meant for that. It's meant purely for being able to enjoy playing electric, untethered, while wandering about randomly and/or practicing. …Whether outdoors or indoors. …At home, in the park, around the neighborhood, at a camp site or a BBQ, wherever. Perhaps even during your breaks at work. It's not meant for playing in a full band situation (especially with drums), nor is it meant for getting a half-stack sound (or even normal combo-amp sound), for a fraction of the price, during a high-end studio session or full-on concert. mini-amp works great as a travel amp, or playing early in the am when ppl are sleeping lol it fits perfectly inside my hardcase, along with my electric guitar, headphones, tuner, cables, etc. performs as expected.. dont look to be amazed at its performance lol but for practice/travel its the perfect amp. has a heavy grind for chunky metal riffs. doesnt pick up the p[inch harmonics that great, but they do come through. the clean setting is great, too, and for a tiny little fkr it really kicks pretty good! had my finacee yelling at me to "turn that fkn thing down!" so, lol, it hits pretty hard for a small little guy.. but like i said, dont expect it to put out the tones of a line 6 spider IV or a Marsall half-stack cuz it aint capable for that. it isnt designed for gigs lol so dont expect that kinda sound. but, i love this mini-amp; its my new best friend!da.davc.mcoumykeiu

This could be one of Line 6's most awesome products to date. I needed a good practice amp for in-home jamming and lessons I could take with on the go. I wasn't expecting much from the built in settings, but there are 5 amp models (including acoustic), basic effects and even a distortion pedal noise gate and tuner LED integrated. The headphone jack and guitar, aux and input are useful as well. Probably the best feature is the battery powered option which allows you to go mobile for jamming in the park or just not dealing with being plugged into the wall. Some downfalls however include some need to roll back the sound channel when switching models (followed by a pop sound), and a few other minor things. Some people complain about Line 6 sometimes stoic amp models, but they work here because its a small form factor, inexpensive and the expectation isn't much. I only briefly checked out the portable amp models market, but this is got to be a great amp for starters or even serious players that want to improve or have some portability.JZman
Much more positive than negative. Interesting that Line 6 has changed their products (at least this one) to match Peavey's way of thinking. Turn this amp on, effects are on – just like Peavey's. My Spider Jam – turn it on – comes on clean, the way it should be. Anyway, the amp sounds good. My MP3 player, mics, and guitars all sound good on this amp. The battery power aspect is nice (no power cord needed – but adapter is supplied). All the effects work well. The low end is gutless, but you can feed it into a sound board if you need to. For an easy, take-along, practice amp, it is great and I would recommend it. The on-board tuner is nice also, but I have to crank my guitars all the way up to get it to work well – then do not forget to turn your guitar back down, and hit the INSANE button – because you will know why they labeled it INSANE – poor little amp sounds like it is about to blow it's knobs all over the room! It will get loud! For a student, or busker (as they say across the pond), this amp would be a very good choice. If Line 6 would change their turn-on sequence, and put in a long-throw, polycone speaker – this amp would easily dominate the mini-amp market. It needs a better speaker. Remember Line 6, and anyone else who might be reading this – always, always, always, always put your money into the speaker(s) – that is what you hear! For the money – great buy!
The Micro Spider III is my first amp and was just lucky that this was the practice/portable amp sold at the guitar store that sold me an Epi Special II guitar a year ago, because one week later I was starting an intro guitar class with a dozen acoustics and (not knowing what I was doing) it only took me minutes with the acoustical setting to dial in a comparable sound! Within 2 months, I bought a MIM Strat and now with these three items I can play just about any sound from Buddy Holly to blues, to surf, to Jimi, to Black Sabbath!!!!!!! With settings from clean to metal, crunch, and insane and 3 adjustable modulations and 3 adjustable ambiance effects, not to mention all 3 EQ knobs, I'm still finding new sounds and I practice up to 4 hours per day! I crank it up in my cabin and outside and can keep it very quiet in my apartment in the winter with mega hours on it and no issues. The 4.5 for quality is due to the not so great built-in tuner, that I quickly bought a Korg tuner to assist my learning ears. Now that I have experimented with all sorts of genres, and now an intermediate type of player, I'm defining my specific sounds that I want to specialize into the future much faster than I could have possibly dreamed of… basically because of the wide array of music I can play with this amp!!! Off the gait… This thing is amazing!!! It's a wall of sound, loud enough to shake the snares on the snare drum from across the room. There is so much punch and lovely sounds it's hard not to love this little guy. There is no gain knob but I actually love that. The volume knob keeps the integrity of the amp, you can get volumes from no one would even know your playing in your bed room to the whole house and the neighbors know every song you play. In stead of using a gain knob to get more overdrive/distortion, or even the gain switch on the amp itself. I use my guitar volume knobs. All these people who say the Orange Micro amp doesn't go clean, haven't tried using their guitar volumes. I usually use an Epiphone Les Paul when I play this guy. I just leave the little guy on overdrive, and I turn down one the volume knobs of one of the pickups on my guitar, and keep the other on full blast, and I just flip the pickup switch when I want a different tone. The cleans are beautiful and crystal clear, with volumes at 1 and 2, and when you turn you turn it to 3-4 you can get a super bluesy John Mayer tone, that sounds so saturated. With guitar cranked you can get every sound you would like from big heavy drop tuning to AC/DC and My favorite part is you can get pinch harmonics on the amp. I honestly get better sounds from this guy then I do with my Expensive Marshall Solid State Head run though a Marshall 1960A Cabinet… Best uses for this is for anybody. Adults, kids, beginners, indeterminate players, professionals or who wanna take a break from the hi watt stuff. Of just a guy who wants to play on the porch. Tuner is fantastic to. I did an experiment on it. My very expensive, super accurate tuning pedal was dead on with the orange amp. I've also had a Marshall Micro amp and my 2 friends both bought one, I was dround out. This is a great little amp. I have a Billy Corgan Strat and it's easy to get some great tones out of this lil guy. It's built very well (I opened it to check). The tuner works well enough to get you there. I hooked it up to a Pigtronix Philosopher's Tone just to mess around and it surprised me. It sounded pretty cool! I also have a Marshall MS-4 too. The Micro Crush is much better out of the box. Be warned tho…mini amps are super addicting! I'm already thinking of getting a Pignose Legendary 7-100 (which I've played before) and a Roland MicroCube. You can easily throw this in a backpack with some stomp boxes, cables, extra batteries, and go anywhere to play.

I’ve known about these for years but never pulled the trigger until now, I wished I would’ve gotten it sooner. I ordered the Yamaha on Saturday afternoon and it arrived on Tuesday morning, great job AMS! I opened it and immediately plugged in my SG. I was very pleased with the sounds from this amp. After watching many reviews I thought I’d skip the clean, crunch and lead channels, I went straight to the Brit hi and Modern channels and I wasn’t disappointed! Studio quality tone and very responsive to volume controls on the guitar. Most importantly, this little amp makes you want to play – highly recommend it!
Overall: overall – maybe the best sounding low wattage amp ever. only small difference in sound between this & a tube amp. weak point is lack of features. they really skimped. twice the price of other compared to other practice amps that have way more features. you're really extra paying for tone here.pro's – * truly terrific tones* even if you have a tube amp that sounds good at whisper volumes (i have a 15w egnater tweaker) it's so convenient to be able to play this on top of your desk.* clean and modern settings are fantastic. i don't use the other amp settings much, but they sound great as well. the only setting i don't like is brit hi.* effects sound good* tap tempo* good tuner* the features are weak* pricey – other practice amps have many more features. they sound pretty good themselves (just not quite as nice as this). so if features are important to you, get something else. digital amps these days all sound not bad to downright good.* are the tones here so much better that it's really worth double other companies' amps? honestly hard to say, but this one does sound the best* can't save settings* one knob control of all mod effects is really limiting* can use the software to tweak settings and effects, but as soon as you unplug, you lose them* max volume on delay is occasionally not enough. usually it's ok. but sometimes, you want a little more & doesn't have it* as mentioned, brit hi setting not that great* the name "modern" might be misleading. i mentioned that modern sounds good, but, it doesn't have enough gain to get you into mesa rectifier range. you're going to need a pedal for that.A
Overall: I have been wanting to leave a review of the THR5 for awhile now. Prior to purchasing it, I had used a 10-15 watt Orange Crush Amp & a Blackstar Debut amp. Neither of those 2 amps were exactly what I wanted but for the price, served a purpose. I was hesitant on purchasing the THR5 because it was twice as much. I have no regrets. If you have not had the chance to try the THR5 in person, video reviews will not do it justice. What I was looking for was a small amp that had sufficient effects built in so that I didn't need to hook up any pedals during an impromptu practice session. The Hall reverb is my favorite and was worth the price alone if it was the only reverb included. All of the amp models sound great, although I tend to only use the clean channel or crunch. Crunch can be toned down to remain clean but adds saturation without becoming distorted. Another bonus was that with the included software, additional compression and gate effects can be adjusted via a computer. These can be set as defaults for when after the amp is unplugged from the computer. I have used it with pedals and loopers as well. Its built well, metal casing. Aesthetically pleasing to sit on a shelf. Extremely lightweight and portable. Honestly this is the best practice/bedroom/portable amp that I have ever owned. Needed to upgrade my amplifier, and have been in love with Orange Amps for a few years. The cleans on this (coupled with my new PPC212OB) really make my Fender XII shine, from highs to lows. The Strat also comes through very nicely, and of course the SG sounds nice and beefy. The dirty channel has wonderful clarity and crunch. The gain mixed with the sustain from my SG just sounds divine. Will definitely be using this head every day for the rest of my life. This amp already has enough great reviews that I almost wasn't going to do one , then a few days ago a friend said something to me that changed my mind. He had got his hands on a new Martin D28 and described it as a life changer. About a year and a half ago I brought home an Orange Crush Pro 120 and a 1×12 cabinet both orange in color. The wife loved the look but I was not happy with the sound. Should have known better than to choose solid state, but live and learn. Came upon some extra $ a couple months ago so I ordered the TH30… "Life Changer". So much tonal versatility and simplicity in a study chassis. So far been extremely pleased with this amazing head. Now I also have Orange happiness! A note about Sweetwater, by far the best bet for me. Been dealing with them for years and not a bad experience yet I'm lucky enough to be in a neighboring state so I get my stuff very quickly and the staff is top notch. Chuck and his family will treat you right.
Sound: its raw and honest so you better tighten up. Features: knobs you have to play with them and once you find your sound, take note of the position of all three knobs Ease of Use: really easy Quality: its made in China and the most important thing about items made in China is quality controls importance , I've seen the factory tour and they do a good job at making this product Value: yes The Wow Factor: Yes! Orange has been to the same concerts I got to go see, so they have to be cool. Overall: Well built. Sounds like wind chimes in tone and can dig out a power chord from the gates of hell. I have already recommended for my nephew, and I look forward to seeing what his ear will find in this three dial setup. i did a lot of research and the VOX 4 watt tube was the other amp I feel in love with. I had a three factors as the reason to go with this 1 because the price point and the fact its a head that makes for more uses. 2 Orange has a sound that is as unique as VOX but "grimy and nasty" is what they should put instead of dirty, it gets down. 3 Orange is as cool as the other side of the pillow (Miss you Mr. Stuart Scott).

I play a Rockerverb onstage and figured hey I'll grab a micro Terror for the studio when I'm working on demoes and practicing. Everyone raves about how it does the Rockerverb thing so hey why not? Don't bother. At best it's a little practice amp but I honestly like my Hotone Heart Attack better. This terror is kind of scratchy and just a little league sound. I love Orange amps but this one pales in comparison to the classics. I guess you get what you pay for but I expected more than this.jq127
I bought this with a ppc108 cabinet – as my review for that cab says, I was very surprised how good and powerful they are together. I thought I would eventually get a larger cabinet for it, but i would only need to if using it for a live performance with a full band. (might be able to get away with ppc108 with a quiet drummer…) For just playing by myself or jamming with other guitar/bass players it is more than enough. This amp can get you great classic rock tone – but I play all styles of music and generally more jazz and hard rock sometimes into the metal range – and this sounds great for that as well. For full on metal you might want to add your favorite distortion pedal but the tube overdrive of the amp itself sounds fantastic! I haven't tried myself but this thing can drive a 4X12 cabinet pretty well according to videos that I've seen. It really sounds like a slightly scaled back version of a full amp head. for the price you will not be disappointed. You could definitely use this for amateur recording – probably professional recording as well but by then you've probably got a bigger amp. Any one who wants a tube amp to mess around with but doesn't have a lot of money to throw around should check this out – or if you just want something very portable. Note that this is a hybrid, it has solid state power and one tube for the preamp, but don't be afraid, it sounds great! It's louder than you might expect and although with the ppc108 it dosen't have extreme low end, it still has good low tones when used with six string guitars in standard as well as C tuning and I have used it with an 8 string guitar, which flops a little on the low string but with a larger cabinet would probably be fine. I highly recommend this amazing tiny amp. Watch some youtube videos if you aren't convinced. For portability the ppc108 cabinet works very well with this and still sounds very nice, but again you can power larger cabinets including 4X12.valvetuber42

A brilliant wee amp, which packs a hell of a lot more than the 20w on the spec. You can really crank it. I was sceptical before I bought it, seeing it’s more marketed to the ‘metal’ players among us. I play some metal, but hard, bluesy overdriven tones is what I like to play more than metal. It can really go for the scooper mids metal tone as well as a lower end bluesy tone. So it caters for all. I bought this as a little practice amp that I can use primarily as a clean pedal platform at home for late night playing, and it works fantastic for this. Better than I'd hoped. It's very, very loud, so I used an EQ pedal in the FX loop with the level slider all the way down. The Orange dirt sound isn't totally my thing but I do like to mess around with it now and then, and this thing scratches that itch without having to spend a bunch of money on a bigger Orange head. Quite surprised at how great this is. I've tried some other solid state clean pedal platform solutions, and this Micro Dark has probably been the best of them. For context, I hit it with a Friedman BE-OD, Wampler Pantheon, & Spark Booster and all sound just as they are intended to sound. It's a great amp for very little money for sure!KC
Sound: As a stand alone amp it's best suited for people that play classic rock, hard rock, acoustic music, Doom metal, Stoner metal, Sludge metal, Jazz or anything that you're looking for a warm fuzzy sound. Value: Actually if I had to do it all over again I would have went with the Joyo ZOMBIE which has more features and sounds far better for metal or had forked out a little more for a Monoprice amp which is a full tube amp. In order to get this amp to play modern metal that actually sounds good(not an Ola Englund post processed video with great pickups and speakers) you'll need a Tube Screamer(or a good Tube Screamer clone), at least a 112 cab and preferably an EQ ion the FX loop to iron out any bad frequencies. A noise gate would be a plus because when driving with all this stuff your rig may make a lot of unwanted noise.6. Only one channel, but you can't always expect much for an inexpensive amp.7. I play a Rockerverb onstage and figured hey I'll grab a micro Terror for the studio when I'm working on demoes and practicing. Everyone raves about how it does the Rockerverb thing so hey why not? Don't bother. At best it's a little practice amp but I honestly like my Hotone Heart Attack better. This terror is kind of scratchy and just a little league sound. I love Orange amps but this one pales in comparison to the classics. I guess you get what you pay for but I expected more than this.jq127
I bought this with a ppc108 cabinet – as my review for that cab says, I was very surprised how good and powerful they are together. I thought I would eventually get a larger cabinet for it, but i would only need to if using it for a live performance with a full band. (might be able to get away with ppc108 with a quiet drummer…) For just playing by myself or jamming with other guitar/bass players it is more than enough. This amp can get you great classic rock tone – but I play all styles of music and generally more jazz and hard rock sometimes into the metal range – and this sounds great for that as well. For full on metal you might want to add your favorite distortion pedal but the tube overdrive of the amp itself sounds fantastic! I haven't tried myself but this thing can drive a 4X12 cabinet pretty well according to videos that I've seen. It really sounds like a slightly scaled back version of a full amp head. for the price you will not be disappointed. You could definitely use this for amateur recording – probably professional recording as well but by then you've probably got a bigger amp. Any one who wants a tube amp to mess around with but doesn't have a lot of money to throw around should check this out – or if you just want something very portable. Note that this is a hybrid, it has solid state power and one tube for the preamp, but don't be afraid, it sounds great! It's louder than you might expect and although with the ppc108 it dosen't have extreme low end, it still has good low tones when used with six string guitars in standard as well as C tuning and I have used it with an 8 string guitar, which flops a little on the low string but with a larger cabinet would probably be fine. I highly recommend this amazing tiny amp. Watch some youtube videos if you aren't convinced. I picked this up for my son so he could practice around the house. Killer stocking stuffer! When the son is away the dad will now play. I started playing my Mustang Bass through this and it did the job. It's a small amp, not a practice amp. This is perfect for camping trips, rocking at the office or kicking it in the backyard. Took a chance on this and purchased it without every playing it. Watched video reviews on it and gave it a shot. Yes, I know that it's small in size, smaller than a kids lunchbox but I hoped it'd produce quality sound and what I got was muddy sounds at increased volumes. It's not clear sounding and my goal to play through an amp is to sound good and I felt if I actually played this in front of people, the muddyness would make me sound amateurish. So, for what you pay for this, yes, you get amplified but it's not real great quality, unless you're a metal player because you don't get a clean sound from this. This ain't no micro cube or vox. This less than 20$ & runs on 1 9v battery or 9v plug in the wall.(transformer not included)& Holy Friggin' Smokes does this baby perform.Monster overdrive tone & super bright, clean tone.Headphone input.Probably exceeds 60 decibels,which is beyond city ords. could get U a fine it's so damn loud. My Strat Squire sounds soooo Fender good out of this lil sucka & my electric/acoustic, sooo crisp.Ultra light to carry around.I've been using the JOYO mini,I love it,plug in,no chord,fun but this Fender mini is a bit more.More tone options and louder.I've yet to find out how quick it eats batteries. The JOYO burns them up fast.Get the rechargeables.Also the JOYO has an MP3 input.This doesn't. I run guitar strap thru the handle so the chord is like non-existent or U can old school it and have a 10 or 20 ft chord.So light it can be pulled over by the chord.These mini amps also pick up radio signals. The amp is built from a good quality plastic. It's pretty cheap, it's Marshall and it looks like a reduced copy of a real Marshall stack. The clean sound is not bad but I couldn't manage it to make a good distorted sound like I've heard on YouTube videos. Compared to other similar compact amps, the sound is not really great.yurersho_4
Awesome Product. The only mini amp that can hold its own when playing with an acoustic guitar. All of the other mini amps I've experienced are either drowned out by an acoustic, or sound horrible when cranked loud enough to play with one. This amp can play with an acoustic or quiet electric and still sound great. Very portable and durable (I have dropped mine multiple times and it still sounds great). I very strongly recommend this amp for anyone who would like to bring an electric on a vacation or somewhere else.
OK I will write something none did about use of this "amp", at least I didnt notice so sorry if someone wrote that : I checked on some gear forum question from a guitarist–he tried to connect this MS-4 to his amp as preamp boost, he said he got no sound, sohe got advice to mod thing(you have to open back of amp and solder certain jumper to get direct out–but headphone is not usable after that !)And one guy told that he got sound through headphone to another amp but it was nogood sounding ! So…both was wrong, first of all I quite intensely play and practice guitar every day, now some about sound…So :1. You have to put jackin just a half cause headphone out is stereo, 2.I have plugged thing to my Bugera 5V–5watts tube amp-which have excellent sound just lacking little push…so this MS-4 have provided that push, it serves excellent as a preamp boost and gives to your amp (specially good if you have dark sounding tube amp) Marshall caracter, so amp turns into Marshall and rally sound as you are playing tube Marshall amp–no kidding here, crystal clear strong punchy cleans and also with this you can overdriven tubes really nicely, great also to give you lead channel! So you dont need boost predal if you use this for an amp ! And you dont have to mod this amp, just use this headphone thing ! You can use micro cube roland in same way–rec/hedph out to another amp ! This amp is FUN. The sound quality is great, and it is packed full of amp models, effects, and pre programed drum loops. That combined with a 40 sec looper, and it's become the most effective practice tool I own. And it's so simple, I don't need a bunch of equipment, it's all in the amp. This amp has a great range of sounds, including some earthy grungey stuff, and weird vocoder setting. The most all-round versatility of this unit is a combination of the Rhythm section, the separate input and control of the Mic, and the Looper section. With up to 10W of output this unit can entertain more than just yourself. I like the tri-select of output power, (especially when the missus wants to watch tv!). The footswitch to select between effects, rhythm and looper is more essential rather than desirable, yet it cost me another $100+ to buy, which seems like a lot for just switch (although it's heavy duty). The only other downside is the rhythm tempo switch, which needs a guess in the time between button presses to alter timing. This would be better done and made more repeatable with a rotary switch. Great little portable unit, and my new GoTo.David M. C.

Have the Spark 40 and am very happy with it. The Mini, not so much. Biggest issue is that it is much to easy to overdrive the speakers, especially the bass. It is not very loud. It's OK for a small quiet room, but I really can't use it outdoors on the patio. It works best sitting on a reflective surface like a table. You don't want the bottom mount bass speaker facing, say, a rug. I love the iPhone / iPad app. It has a good variety of amps and pedals, but you really can't get the same sound as a tube amp like my Blues Jr IV. While it has a variety of reverb pedals, it does not have spring reverb. A big disappointment. I really like that it is battery powered, usb chargeable and really like the Bluetooth speaker function.Dave
I fell in love with the capability of the PG Spark 40 and I had to have this mini for it's portability! I pre-ordered mine direct from Positive Grid when they were running their pre-production discounts. I've been playing on and off for about 30 years. I wish this was available then instead of that clunky, weak Squire 15 amp I started with. The app for Android and iPhone opens up all kinds of possibilities! A starting musician and use the features to play along to their favorite songs or you can look up backing tracks to tinker along with. The standard hardware sounds are very warm, and the tone cloud gives you access to an unfathomable amount of tones modeled after near all of your favorite artists! It is more than enough to appeal to the budding guitarist to keep you interested! And for more experienced players, the options that are part of this thing are incredible, and will have you noodling with your Sunday morning coffee before you know it! The sound and tone quality from such a small amp is amazing! It sounds huge. You will quickly forget you are playing through a 6 inch cube. There are a bunch of amps and effects to create your own sound, and the Smart Jam and play along features are both fun and inspiring. Plus, the various tones in the ToneCloud are great for matching a tone to a song you are learning to play. Believe the hype from the reviews online. I will say that this is amp may not be for everyone. At 10 watts, it is not loud enough to gig with. Plus, I would not recommend this for a first amp. There are a lot of options that can be overwhelming for beginners, and the limited on-board options do not allow for simple plug and play. Beginners may want to start with something like a Black Star ID Code. There are also a few things I am not crazy about. Because of the limited on-board controls, 6 to 8 presets would have been better, plus the default presets are not that good. The amp models in the app are OK, but some sound too similar, plus each amp has the same knobs (Gain, Bass, Middle, High and Volume). Nothing to distinguish one amp model from another (Channels, Presence knob, Intensity knob, etc.). The same goes for the reverb pedals (each has 6 knobs whether or not the pedal being replicated has 6 options). The Vox Tone room has better amp and effect modeling but does not have all of the other jamming and recording options. So all of that being said, this amp is still fantastic for someone with some knowledge of amps (for example, the difference between gain and volume) and is looking for something small and discrete to play around the house (or apartment) that does not want to sacrifice tone quality. The battery power is nice for playing anywhere without having to plug it in. I've played mine for a couple hours without having to recharge. It is also a great option if you want to record your work. All in all, this is an innovative amp that is just fun to play, has a ton of options and sounds way too good for its size. Get one, you'll love it!Dan

I purchased the Loudbox Mini Charge to use in small settings as a solo fingerstyle acoustic guitarist. So far I've found very little I don't like about this amp. It has great volume and tone for its size … it really sounds wonderfully articulate despite the fact it simply can't match the headroom of larger, more powerful units. Then again, it's designed for small venues. The reverb and chorus settings are well-executed and pleasant sounding and the three band eq is responsive. Bluetooth is easy to pair and use making this a potential boon at deck and tailgate events. If I had to list negatives my first gripe would be that the channel two input is XLR only. It would have been nice to see a combination jack here for times when players want to use a second instrument input. However, a passive DI box will solve that issue. The other missing feature is an anti-feedback circuit. There is a phase switch but the lack of a true auto-notch on an amp in this price range seems strange. Finally, the on-board battery makes this unit heavier than it looks. It easily outweighs a Fender Acoustasonic 90 even though the Fender is physically twice its size. Those issues aside, the Loudbox Mini Charge is a great performing little amp with the bonus of being battery powered when needed. I'm definitely a fan.GS
So far I've just practiced with it at home and the sound is superb, especially the low end being very present and not muddy. Big bonus for me is I can easily carry it in one hand and guitar in the other so no need for multiple trips. Another reason I got it is for my outdoor gigs where access to electricity can be iffy. Overall: This amp sounds so good playing a Taylor acoustic through, the on board effects are smooth and polished and very balanced… The low end of this little amp is very impressive and HOLY $&@! this little box is freaking LOUD!!! It 100% lives up to its name, add the fact that you can charge it up and use it away from any power supply means you can play music anywhere and from my experience with using it for about 2 years now the charge still lasts about 6 hours at 50% master volume of playing before needing a charge again and that’s more than enough playing time for most people, now that playing time I’ll go down a bit if you crank it up to 85% volume but will still last about 3 hours. I give this amp a 9.5/10 only because the carry bag is a must have but is sold separately and it’s a little pricy for what it is, if your paying just over $500 for a very small mini carry amp to me the carry bag should be included in that price tag IMO speaking that you can buy a Randall half stack head and cabinet for about the same price.
