I looked up and down everywhere to see what's the best mic for all around, Like the hidden gem in the cornfield. People told me the rodemic, Razer and snow xlr mic, But from looking past the "Normal" I seen the sm57. A famous hidden mic no one really knew about, Basically has the same tone sm7b just a little different. $100ish instead of $400 count me in, I been using it for zoom calls, Twitch, Discord and everyone i talked to said i went from a very noisy and outland voice to a solid nice tone. I personally use mine with a boom arm, the a81ws, focusrite. No issues with it and i had it for about 3 months, I'm not the gentlest on it either so I feel comfortable using it on a day to day basis. Who would i recommend this to? To be totally honest everyone, You want it to do something? Trust me it will. 10/10Bradleigh, K
As long as I can remember and I’m now 67 years old, the Shure sm57 microphone has been onstage and in recording studios worldwide. The first time I used one, I was a teenager and apprentice engineer working with Blue Oyster Cult on a demo. The song, ‘Don't Fear The Reaper’ We placed this microphone in front of a pig nose amplifier and cranked it up. Later the band mastered the song at the Record Plant and the rest is Rock n Roll history. Today I run my own studio and only recently purchased the sm57 for the same reason, recording amplified guitar solos. History is repeating itself to a whole new generation.
I've only had chance to do a quick sound check miking my Bugera V22 and recording the sound using my new Tascam DP-008 EX 8-track recorder. Sound quality was very good, especially for a basic home office recording setup. I can see why this mic is so popular in the industry. For perspective, I am a hobbyist and don't perform, but like to have the best sound for my limited budget to make recordings for myself and maybe friends and family. This mic lives up to its rep for being a great value for what you pay, punching above its class, no doubt.Steve

I recently installed a stereo pair of these mics on a grand piano for recording purposes. I was absolutely blown away by the quality of sound they delivered. The KM184 makes the recording sound like I am sitting in the same room as the piano. It has a very smooth response across the entire spectrum, and with the right placement you can achieve the perfect balance to make a piano sound better than you ever could have imagined, with crisp tone and no discernible hammer noise at all. Whether you are testing the waters of recording or if you are a seasoned veteran in the field, this is definitely the microphone to use if quality is of any concern.Steve
This Pair of Neumann KM184 arrived well-protected in a well-made wooden box that is handy to carry around, with all their attachments included. I needed to record a group of string players, so set them up as overheads and they did a brilliant job of capturing the sound.Reviewed by Andertons Music Co.
I'd kept a vintage pair of km84s in an old sunglasses case in my drawer.. finally decided to give them a proper home. This box was designed for 2 km184s, but my pair of 84s fit fine. The foam cut is a tiny bit too short length wise, but they still squeeze in there just fine. Unfortunately I keep my clips fitted with quick releases, which prevents them from fitting in their designated slots.. I prefer AKG SA60 clips for km84s, which fit perfectly with room for the badge, and are almost $50 cheaper than the neumann clips intended for 184s, and they also are also more rugged. The Neumann wn110 windscreen doesn't quite fit in the windscreen slot without being squished, so ultimately I'm only storing the mics in here, which seems a little wasteful, but it still feels more secure to store the 84s in this box rather than a random drawer, so I'm glad I picked it up.Michael

Reviews:
I think for the price this is a decent mic. It gives a clearer sound then what I had in my arsenal for my acoustic guitar. I've not tried it on anything else, so I haven't had a need to use the pad. I was trying large condensers on the acoustic and they were too muffled. This comes across much cleaner, maybe a little on the bright side but that's better than muddled. I'm using it to mic at the fingerboard and it gives a better, cleaner and more full bodied sound. I would note it's a little sensitive to being bumped. I found if I bump it I have to readjust the connection to get rid of a bit of hum it seems to pick up after the bump.Z
I used this product on a number of things. Timbale,Drums Overheads,Acoustic Guitars,String Quartets, Vocal Choirs,Steel Drums and well as room mic's. It comes with a 20db pad which is very helpful when recording loud percussion like Timbale,Steel Drums, and loud Drums. Make sure you have a low noise pre amp and you get really good results. I only wish it came with omni capsules or at least had that option. These mic's are great for the money.Joseph
I was reluctant to believe that I could make any type of Splash using this microphone to do my first ever voice over gig, but honestly it was all I could afford at the time. It came out smelling like a rose! Of course at that price point you're not going to get anything close to a u87ai. And the noise floor in my opinion leaves quite a bit to be desired, but with the little bit of offset compression and some other tweaking, this mic can sound as good as anything Shure has on the market, or possibly even the sm58 for voiceover work.RB

Overall: Great Sound. Great Build Quality. It comes with a nice case and a windscreen, and mic clip. The high pass filter is quite useful. Took my acoustic guitar recordings up to the next level. Through and through it is a professional mic. Only cons are the high pass switch is little odd to move and compared to other condensers it needs a lot of gain, but not as much as a dynamic mic. Overall, I recommend it anyone looking to recording acoustic guitar or other instruments any day. I'm very happy with it. I will be keeping it for a long long time.Steve
If you want a mic to record the actual sound of whatever you're trying to record, with good mic placement, this is a great mic. I'm using them as an ORTF stereo pair for acoustic guitar and they are perfect. If I want more air (to replicate certain top end biased mics) I can dial it in with a good EQ and the top end stays beautifully smooth, but if I've got a lovely sounding acoustic guitar, these babies do a wonderful job with very little EQ needed. Well made and should last many many years, highly recommended!John
Great for high school plays, etc. Placed several of these @ 3 feet from the small platform stage. They were @ 24 inches off the ground and aimed upwards towards the kids. I had no idea if this approach was going to work. Much to my surprise, everything worked out great. I ISO recorded the three mics and mixed later. 'Used Adobe De-Reverb to reduce some of the echo from the hard walls at the back of the stage. As the kids moved across the stage, I would simply pick them up with whichever mic was nearby. I'm sure there were much better approaches to this problem, but considering the quick time frame, I'm pleased with the results.Dave

Reviews:
Sound: Being 16 bit this mic will not compete with professional analog mics or 24 bit digital mics, however for 16 bit it is exceptional. It is a flat EQ mic and if I had to say where the weakness lies it might be in the high end, but it might be perfect depending on the range of the vocalist. I feel any frequency issues could be corrected with EQ in the DAW. Features: Most useful feature is the ease and simple connection via USB. There is also a mini-jack in the mic, so you can plug in headphones and monitor directly from the mic itself. Meaning, you could hear raw audio as the mic hears it, then via another pair of headphones hear the audio or mix from the DAW. Very handy. Weakest feature is the 16bit convertor. Its good, just 16 bit, not 24. Ease of Use: Extremely easy mic to set up and begin recording with. Quality: Mic is solid, well crafted. Heavy to the feel, good paint and nice cables. Includes a little stand. Value: This mic is extremely cheap compared to other mics of the same quality. I think it is the best of its class by far. Manufacturer Support: I haven't dealt with AudioTechnica before, but there is the good reputation. The Wow Factor: Very appealing to beginners and semi professional musicians. Could even be a great mic for a professional musician for the road, random spontaneous recording, since it is portable and connects via USB so easily. Overall: After researching for many months, I decided on the AT 2020 USB mic. This is a high quality mic with excellent range and detail for instrument and vocals. There really is no question that the mic has excellent recording, the only fact you need to be aware of is that this is a 16bit input not a 24bit input. 16bit is 'just' enough quality for a semi-pro recording session. I believe in terms of 16bit mics and USB mics this is the best model.
I set up in my basement with it a few weeks ago and started messing around, have found nothing to be disliked. The overall sound is good, it has strong low end for my growls, and it doesn't have any problems with recording at any volume. I even put it in front of my drumset to see if it'd pick up okay, which it did surprisingly well with. I haven't been doing vocals for very long, but from what I can tell it easily competes with mics twice the price. 10/10 would recommend, worth it. P.s. get a pop filter toothe wheat man
I have one first generation version, which lacks the headphone jack, and this is my 2nd of the newer generation. If using this in an application where you want a shock mount, be sure to buy the Audio Technica shock mount that is made for this exact form factor. I have both of mine on boom arms. I like the side address form factor and the ability to get cheap pop filters that are semi-cylindrical. Compared to the much more expensive gold standard Shure SM7B, this sounds a bit brighter and has a wider, flatter frequency response. That makes the AT2020 better suited for instrumentals and other sound sources, whereas the SM7B tends to be very specifically suited to voices. I own USB and XLR versions of this mic, and the integrated analog-to-digital conversation seems very good, not introducing detectable noise.Matthew

The neumann km 184 small diaphram cardioid microphone has become the classic high-quality miniature microphone. the pressure gradient transducer used in the km 184 features very smooth frequency response not only for the 0 axis, but also for lateral (off-axis) sound incidence. in typical usage, there is no coloration of sound over a wide pickup angle. although the km 184 has the same capsule as the km 84, the microphone differs slightly on the 0 frequency response: the km 184 has a gentle rise at about 9 k hz (which brings out the sizzle in cymbals), a characteristic that was introduced very successfully with the km 140. the result is a tonal balance that is fresher and livelier when compared to the km 84 with its flat frequency response in that band. this difference was achieved with just a slight change of the capsule's rear opening, and is not due to resonances.with the same transformerless circuitry as is used in the km 100 system, the km 184 has excellent technical specifications. compared to the km 84 the dynamic range of the km 184 increased by 24 d b mainly through the reduction of self-noise level to only 22 d b (ccir) and an increased sound pressure handling capability of up to 138 d b. the km 184 mic will operate without any problems, even if the input of following equipment happens to be unbalanced, for example as in some dat recorders. the output is balanced and phantom (48v) powered.the km 184 is a good economical alternative choice for users looking for a high-quality miniature microphone. you don't have to give up the electroacoustic features you expect from a neumann microphone!

Reviews:

Reviews:
This microphone is one of the best suited for handling guitar amps and other louder close mic applications, especially where a low profile is advantageous, such as on stage or in a cramped studio setting. The mike can be hung/slung over a speaker cabinet or mounted on small footprint stand and placed directly in front of speaker cone/grill. The flat design allows for setup in extremely tight spaces. The frequency response of 40-18k works well on most amplified instruments. It is designed optimally to handle high sound pressure levels (loud) without pads. Response is fairly flat and even across the entire range. It is also super-cardroid pattern meaning crosstalk can be kept to a minimum, important when mic'ing multiple cabs. I found these to be superior to the standard sm-57 type mics for guitar cabinet pickup, more bottom end, crisper high end and very low profile. They are also fairly durable. I've been using mine for a long time and they have held up well.Steviebone
Couldn't be any simpler – take it out of the box, connect to a cable and hang it in front of your amp! Obviously you need to find the sweet spot, but that won't take you long either. I've used it on a crunchy Marshall and a squeaky clean Vox with and without (fairly extreme) modulation and it behaves beautifully. It just works and as a simple sort of a bloke, this is one of my favourite things of all time!!!
Works great as a guitar-amp mic. You can hang it over the top of the amp, or use something like the K&M 25950 (or 25900) stands. I'm not enamored with Sennheiser's mic clips, but they function; I'd be concerned about repeatedly attaching/removing mics from those clips. That could be unwarranted, but time will tell. Otherwise the mic sounds perfect for my needs (micing guitar amps)Dan

Reviews:
I wanted a pair of pencil condensers for the home studio; that I could use primarily for recording acoustic guitar, but that also sounded great in other applications as well. (overheads, room mics, etc.) On an acoustic as a pair these sound fantastic, the dry signal itself sounds practically record ready (Taking into consideration the instrument quality and room setup as well). There are probably "better" mics out there in this category, but not that I know of at this price, and in terms of sound quality alone maybe not by much. These NT5's absolutely blow away any lower end mics I've used (MXL, CAD) and as far as I can hear sound basically just as good as most higher end microphones that you'd spend twice as much on. (Go to Youtube and watch some Mic Shootout comparisons with these) I grabbed one of Rode's stereo bars for the pair which makes setting them up nicely convenient. (Couln't find this on musician's friend, GC, or Sweetwater though. Went to RODE's website and ordered separate.) A phenominal set of pencil condensers for the home studio recorder. At 0.5" capsules, they don't overkill high frequencies, but certainly don't lack in the bottom end either. I use these mostly recording acoustic & acoustic rock styles and the tonal balance is perfect in my opinion. Excellent clarity as room mics, haven't tried as kit overheads yet.Cully
I haven't had a chance yet to fully experience the microphone in any situation, but so far it's been pretty good. Definitely adjust the gain based on the distance it is from the source. Always keep it a little lower than you would usually like it because that will prevent it from clipping and you can always increase the volume in post production. Worth the money in my opinion.Zachary

Reviews:
Nah, that's probably a bit of false bravado– also not alot of Irish traditions in my family, and to say that my admiration for this mic will extend to my dying day, that I will breathe my last breath holding onto it and capturing some musical performance– a nice picture, but how realistic, really? I guess I just metaphorically, in a Clint Eastwood kinda way, want to impress on you that, if we were all cowboys, this mic would be the six-shooter that everyone longed to have– lawman, outlaw, everyone in between. There's a reason it's a standard of the industry and you've heard its coolly accurate wondrous alive-sounding exceptional capture on a gabazillion records. It gets and gives you what's really there. The self noise is so low, 6 decibels, that there is no self noise. Everything comes through crisply and clearly. I will confess to you– I've cobbled together a subsistence farming kind of audio life, recording singers and ensembles, and I've always made do with gear that checked in much lower on the food chain than this. So when the house tech at a classical quartet concert had a pair of these and set them up just basically at the front edge of the stage, and offered to feed them into my tape deck, I swooned. Back in the studio mixing that performance, the 414's were smooth and airy and cast a lovely perspective on the players. Okay, that's it, I am getting myself a pair! What did I hear when I set up a pair of these for the first time in front of a guitar player? Within the ringing density of the guitar sound, a whole rainbow of colors, a detailed picture down to the granular level. The dual capsule will give you any and every polar pattern, from omni to hypercardioid, with halfway settings in between each setting! Also, four versions of low-cut roll-off, and also three levels of volume pads. A finely crafted German-engineered shockmount, and double sided (the best kind!) pop filter to affix to a mic stand. And a windsock. There are going with me everywhere from now on. Although– this overblown elaborate packaging with all this cut-out foam– no, give me all-put-together-and-ready-to-go in the smallest space, please. (I attach a picture of the pair suited up and ready for the showdown.)Joel

Specifications:
Weight | 1.8 lb |
Reviews:
The Aston origin has been a complete game changer for me. It works on virtually every source, electric guitar, acoustic guitar, and of course vocals. This mic makes a vocal cut and sit right in the mix. Throw some traditional eqing on it and it's the complete wow factor. People probably think that at this price point, it can't be as good as some of the big boys in the industry. Those people are terribly wrong. This mic should be in everyone's collection, it is a workhorse and in my opinion will eventually become an industry standard. Thank you Aston for making such a great and affordable microphone that sounds as good as as it looks.Rick
In the past, I've owned the Rode Classic, Rode NTK, Neumann TLM 103, and currently own an MXL Revelation Solo, Neumann TLM 49, and Rode NT1. The Origin is easily as good or better than any of the mics that I've owned up until now. It's amazing what you get for the price! Unlike the TLM 103, which sounds almost hyper-real, the Aston sounds completely natural. It was love at first-listen! I was intending on buying another 103, but since I bought the Aston, what for? It's that good of a mic! Ignore the price. This mic takes me further on the dollar than any mic I've ever used. I was a little concerned about the SE Electronics connection, because I had tried and returned a quite lackluster SE mic in the past, but this little mic wipes the floor with the SE mic I tried. And, unlike the new Rode NT1, which is a pretty good mic for the price, the Aston doesn't make you feel like you wish you were using something a little better. It sounds GREAT!!!! After experiencing what this mic can do, I can't NOT get the Spirit!Oklahoma Crooner
Sounds great, excellent design, integrated pop shield works beautifully. Light enough for desktop mic stands too. No daft rubberised coating to peel and flake off in a couple of years either. I don't think I'll ever need to buy another large diaphragm condenser.Reviewed by Andertons Music Co.

I bought this mic a year ago, but sent it back. Last week I gave it another try. On drums it was ok, my room is big but doesn't sound good. I can only get close mics to sound good. On the base amp it is my best mic, beating out the re20 (tighter low end). On electric guitar amps it sounds 70's man, although a 57 is fine to . On acoustic guitar it sounds really natural, I was surprised, I thought it would be dull (concert body, low boom factor) . I am keeping it this time. It is the only non figure 8 ribbon mic I know of.tjs
Just thought I'd chime in on my personal experience. I've used this mic on drums, percussion & tambourine, guitar cabs, acoustic instruments, horns, and even voice. This mic may seem deceptive at first, not "exciting" like some hyped mics, but when you start mixing, well, that's usually the tell-tell sign of a good mic. This mic is an absolute necessity on saxophones. I've never gotten a better sound on tenor sax – seriously, no compression or EQ needed if tracked properly. My studio partner used this mic to track a song where he played every individual track himself – vocals, percussion, solid state guitar amp, snare drum, misc. instruments, and the tracks were easy to mix with little effects or dynamics needed. This mic may seem pricey, but I'd have no reservations about purchasing another, and hope to do so in the near future. I have no complaints at all with this mic. BTW, I did drop this mic once from about 4-5 ft while trying to attach it to the mic clip (a ribbon no-no), and it continues to work fine. Beyerdynamic makes great mics. I perform with a pro area blues / rock / party band and the sound guy uses nothing but Beyerdynamics.Chase's Sire
Just read the above. It's another valuable brush for painting the sonic picture. Sound is so subjective…that's my disclaimer for this review. First, the gear: Rivera Knucklehead Tre into and EVM 12L with Blackout loaded Jackson 7 string. This mic udoubtedly is hyped in the 2k-4k region, but definitely not in an abrasive way. It really is great at providing the "meat" of your sound if you use lower treble settings like I do. It is one my favorite mics I have used on my cab. Has less proximity effect than the Peluso R-15 I have (which is an R121 clone). Very comparable to an SM7b with the mid boost engaged, but more natural. For typical speakers like the V30, and Classic Lead 80, may be a bit harsh and thin. Great mic on warmer speakers with lower mids. Had the Rivera cranked. master on 7, preamp gain on 7. Mids on 3. No issues. Modern ribbons are troopers. In this amp, the mids matter just as much as the master for volume. I give this a medium rating. It's pricey compared to other dynamics, but not so pricey considering how much reputable modern ribbon mics cost.Sharpsburg, GA

Our church has a few aging SM58 mics. Some time ago I purchased an XM8500 and just recently added three more to our closet. Buying the Behringers was cheaper than upgrading the SM58 mics. The Behringers actually seem more brilliant than the Shures, but admittedly I am comparing them to the aging SM58s. Regardless, the sound is excellent. A big thumbs down for the mic clips, which were totally useless. I couldn't even slip a mic into them. I ended up forcing them onto an old mic and then I hit them with my heat gun to relax the plastic. That seems to have worked OK. At least I can get a mic into them now.rer-tar
To my ears, the XM8500 sounds just as good as any other XLR microphone. Its body is fully metal, and feels strong enough that I could throw it at a wall without so much as scratching it. It even comes in a hard plastic carrying case, which is much higher quality than the price would suggest. The included clip isn't amazing, you need to permanently stretch it to even be able to put the XM8500 in it, but it's still much better than nothing. If you're going to be close to the XM8500, I recommend getting some kind of foam windscreen, which DJ City doesn't sell for any kind of reasonable price. All in all, I highly recommend the XM8500 if you're after a high quality mic at a fair price.Charles M.
I heard a ham radio operator using one of these and his audio was simply GREAT! Based on this, I decided to invest $20 for one. It came promptly as scheduled. I connected it to my Elecraft K3S {an absolutely awesome radio} in place of either my Heil PR-781 or Shure SM-58. I immediately got GREATsounding audio reports. In comparing the specs and frequency response of the Shure SM58 {basically a $100 mike} and the Behringer XM8500, the 8500 has a wee bit more high end. Otherwise they are identical I've listened to my station and my voice in a critical listening environment, and I agree, it is a good sounding mike. Correctly interfaced to the radio and with the radio properly adjusted, it should produce great sounding audio on yours as well. Of note – I find with many mikes, and this one is no exception, the correct mike technique is the single most important factor to getting great audio reports. You can equalize and compress and process until you run out of knobs to turn and settings to adjust. If you don't use the correct mike-to-mouth distance and correct mike position, you'll never get great audio!k4tax

Reviews:
The Seiren Mini is an honestly wonderful microphone for personal computer usage. It picks up voices accurately and clearly while often successfully ignoring background noises such as large summertime fans. This mic is about the size of a 355ML soda can, which makes it easy to relocate on your desk when in or out of use. Unfortunately, this size comparison makes it easy to accidentally attempt to drink from your microphone out of reflex if you're a habitual soda drinker. My only real complaint is that the microphone's top half is designed in a way that's very easy to collect dust or other stray particles that you wouldn't want on your mic. Cleaning has been easy, though it may concern messy eaters or people who work with paints or other craft materials. I'd happily recommend this product, though do be very careful to keep the space it's in clean!V1ral
Got this so I can stop using my PS4 controller as a way to use a microphone on PC. It sounds good but a few issues I have with it include: No mute button (which is okay for me because I use the discord mute instead) When using it in an Xbox party on PC the other person hears me as very echo-y, but not sure if it is their headset or the microphone, will test when I can next Every now and then other people in the party/channel I'm in hear some weird noises, I unplug and plug it back in and it's gone, but it doesn't happen very often. VERY cheap build quality in the threads for the screws. I have probably unscrewed and re screwed it about 5 times and some of the threads started coming off. Just don't do that and it should be fine. On the plus side, the cable is the same colour as the microphone no matter what colour you get it in. It is also pretty good at eliminating noise from behind it as you have to talk into the front of it and not the top like I did for a day (like an idiot.) Also as I said, it does sound good, so it is a good cheap alternative to expensive microphones that can charge you $300+ for the same sound but just has extra features.
I pick one of these up while I was building a better zoom/Microsoft teams set up. I wanted something that had better sound quality than the integrated mics in laptops or webcams like the c920, along with good enough noise isolation that I could use it on a desk with speakers, and perhaps most importantly it had to be truly plug and play. One of the primary users of the system it would be part of is my elderly father so having to fiddle with settings menus regularly would be an immediate disqualifier. I'm happy to say this little mic exceeded my expectations in every way. Sound is crisp and clear even when the mic is positioned fairly far away from the speaker and the pick up pattern is tight enough that there's no weird echoes or feedback from the speakers on the desk. The easy of use is also great, I did a little fine tuning in the settings menu of zoom and teams but honestly that step could be skipped it worked perfectly well right out of the box.Cecil

Reviews:
The RODE NT1 has long been a mainstay for any recording studio. This was my chance to get one and I have to say it's reputation has not been overstated. I have and have worked with many microphones in the last 50 years and the RODE NT1 has just become my all around "go to" mic. From it's almost noiseless "floor" (4.5) to it's crystal clear warm overtones, this microphone is pure joy to work with and at an affordable price. Top that off with RODE's 10 year manufacturer's warranty and you'll be hard pressed to find a better deal. I couldn't. Thank you Sam Ash for being close by and having my order in record time. Note the pop filter is no longer the same steel one pictured in the product photos, RODE uses a more standard circular mesh filter compared to the steel mesh. Nonetheless, still works amazingly and for the price/bundle + quality for a starting XLR set, it’s fantastic. Sounds clear, professional, there’s a reason the NT1 has been popular for so long now. Only gripe I have is the USB power – using my M1 iMac (which has only USB-C), even using a dongle in the thunderbolt port didn’t seem to power the mic enough which resulted in a LOT of crackling. Had to buy a USB-C cable capable of 100W and plugged in directly to my iMac, solved the issue. If you’re a Mac user, I recommend swapping the cable unless you have a USB type-A port capable of properly powering this mic. However, that’s just my experience, your experience may differ especially if you’re using PC, which I can’t vouch for. Overall though, highly satisfied.WhoelsebutCoop
If you are considering the purchase of your first condenser microphone, then I highly recommend the Rode NT1 Kit. – High build Quality – Everything you need comes in the kit – Strong signal – Low noise – Perfect on vocals and acoustic guitar When broadcasting on JamKazam and micing my acoustic with the NT1: someone that I play with frequently on JamKazam asked me; "What guitar are you using?", before answering I asked why do you ask? They said it sounds amazing. Then I told them its my Ovation elite that I always play, it is just that I am micing it with my new Rode NT1. To which they replied…Wow it sounded like you had a different guitar…it sounds so full and rich. I have had this microphone for a couple of weeks now and it has met and surpassed my expectations. Before buying I did my research into all condenser mics in the $300 range; compared specs, product reviews like this one. If you are on the fence about which condenser mic to buy to get started with, get off the fence and get yourself the Rode NT1 Kit. Trust me, you will not be disappointed.David
