The things most often replaced on my guitars are the tuners. Original equipment tuners seldom measure up to my expectations. Options for Gotoh tuners are limited, if you want replacements that don't require drilling. These units aren't great, but they are better than the originals. I have several sets on different guitars. They are a little stiffer, and turn a bit harder, but I've had no problem with slippage or change in "feel". I don't care for the buttons, but I often change those as well. I didn't answer the question on value as it's too subjective. I didn't answer enjoyable as it doesn't even apply. I believe the product is good, but not great. There are several Gotoh replacement copies out there. I've tried some, quality varies. I prefer to go with the name brand even if it costs a bit more.strait53

I am an Acoustic Guitar Tuning Geek. As far as "Open back" Tuners for expensive Acoustics there is no better Tuner on todays market than the Schaller GrandTune Open Back Tuners. With their 18:1 Ratio, smooth! did I say smooth action, and precision tuning these are a pure joy to tune with. I like them better than the ever popular Waverly Tuners and in fact have replaced all the Waverly Tuners with Schaller GrandTune Nickel Butterbeans on all my Martin Authentic Series Guitars. Also, these are a direct drop in replacement for Waverly's, including the Tuners, bushings and screw holes. FYI-I had to use the existing Waverly screws since they were existing and are a larger diameter than the Schaller Tuner screws. I couldn't be happier with all aspects of these Schaller GrandTune Tuners! And besides, they are pure "GUITAR JEWELRY"! 🙂 Did I mention how well they hold tune…..THEY DO!dadthrash
These tuners are remarkably smooth, more so even than the Waverly version. The plating is high quality as well. My only issue is with the tiny wood screws. While they certainly don't run the risk of being too long for even the thinnest headstocks, they're very difficult to hold onto and put in place, at least for my hands.marc-1951

I have purchased this only for the engraved Kluson Delux on the back. and noticed the quality is worse than Wilkinson which made in Korea and Goto which made in Japan and Taiwan. even the price is not good as the competitors on the market. do not buy Kluson again. it's my advice to myself51nocaster
I MUCH prefer these over the stock ping tuners that came with my classic series 60's strat…unfortunately I didn't read the fine print that said "uhhh btw, you have to buy our adapter's SEPARATELY in order to fit modern guitars"….So I just spent probably 4 hours trying to make these things work before reading that….Wasted so much time, why the h3ll didn't they just include the freaking adapters! These work OK once you get them installed, but my headstock ('94 Epiphone Sorrento) is too thick for them. The Sorrento had Kluson tuners on it so I thought these locking jobs would be a drop-in replacement. The problem is that the string hole in the post barely clears the top of the ferrule. This makes threading a plain string difficult and threading a wound string nearly impossible. I will probably end up going with Sperzels when I have the time and money, which is what I've mostly done the last fifteen years or so.phrembah
