I put these on my Gibson J-55 and man what a difference over the phosphor bronze that came stock. I have yet to put them on my '29/'31 L3 or Custom Shop martin 0018, but I really adore the sound on my J-55. The J-55 has an Adirondack top, mahogany back/sides and is essentially a Gibson version of a Martin D-18 without the super boomy low end. I love these strings and they really bring out the natural woody tone of the guitar, which is how it should be in my opinion. After using these I really like the sound, and in a weird way I'm closer to that guitar than I ever was before, the phosphor bronze that were on the guitar were just too bright and metallic, I prefer the natural earthy tones. I put this guitar in different tunings and these strings really open it up there and in standard tuning as well. I can't wait to put these on my Martin 000, I just got it so the strings on it are fresh but they're 80/20s and I really don't like them. You can't go wrong with these strings. These came installed on my new Epiphone J-45 and man do they sing. Nice bass response and they are not tinny sounding, got the just right acoustic sound. They are coated and to me they make it easier to play. As I haven't played them for that long I'll have to see how they hold up. One other reviewer gave them 3 stars but if you read the review, he was complaining about the shipping time and even said he hadn't tried them. I find it hard to believe that it was AMS's fault for the delay, they always ship super fast. I use these for tuning down to B standard and they are perfect with or without a tremolo. They feel firm enough, but not too tight and make for easy shredding. I wouldn't suggest going lower than B standard, but they would probably still hold the up well in A# or even A standard. I don't tune down lower than B and wouldn't know how well they do going lower. I get a lot of good old school death metal tones with these stings. I've tried a lot of different strings and these are the only ones that really are made for lower tunings. They do their job, sound great and last a very long time. It's very simple really. You put them on, stretch them out a little, tune up and you're in knee deep in metal \m/Foul Phil
I first used DDTs on my 4 string bass. I put this particular set on a Peavy Strat clone and it's sitting in BEADC right now will full string tension. Of note is the need for less extra string on the lower two since the "EAD" (or BEA in my case) are fundamentally light bass strings and you probably won't have enough room for a proper wrap due to the smaller machine heads.Jared

I build guitars and buy these for setups period. I have tried to use these on one occasion just for kicks but found the tension all wrong. Not so much on the wound strings as the unwound upper strings. I found the tension and feel really poor. They seemed to be ridiculous to bend and if you managed that they felt like they were about ready to snap. I did not like the brittle tone either. The feel of these is just all wrong but they are cheap and fine to use for building but my guitars would never go out with these!Thump54

Hey you music hounds out there! Give Guitar Center a shot at setting you up with some gear! I also asked if they traded used pedals towards a new pedal and, yes I walked out with a new distortion pedal!! Strings are the lowest around town and in stock. These 3250 nickel plated steel wound fender strings really sound good with the bullet ends (more surface touching the tremolo) and steel is stronger and less likely to break on a large bend and the sound is a little stronger on the pickup I've been playing 30 plus years and tried many string types and this is what I buy!!! I like regular gauge .10-.46 but the choice is yours =JamMan= play till I drop……
The reason I tried these strings (3150R) was because i bought a Telecaster (Baja) in 2007. I read about fret wear being less because it matches the alloy in the frets of new Fender guitars, in comparison to steel strings. Therefore there is the hope it offers less wear and tear on the frets. I had also had problems with the Telecaster 'icepick' sound on the bridge pickup. These strings softened the icepick sound I was getting with steel strings. They last for up to 4-6 months. I think the Tele and nickel string combo is a winner for me. My attitude towards Fender strings changed after this, so I tried the bullets on my Strats. Guess what they were even better with tremelo dives and resistance to detuning. But I thought the pure nickel really affected the sound I got. I like the biting sound from steel strings (GHS Boomers, 10-46) on both a 1970 Stratocaster and a Lace sensor stock equipped 1990 Strat Ultra, so I choose the nickel-plated (3250R) steel strings. Pure joy of sound from both. I had to get a refret on the '70 Strat in 2010, so it was a good move to use these strings to avoid fret wear.

(Guitar there were placed on is a Tom Murphy Painted and Aged Gibson Custom Shop 1959 Les Paul Standard w/ Brazilian Fretboard) Back in the day, Ernie Ball strings weren't packaged well; they weren't even sealed. If you haven't tried them since their packaging was reinvented, they're definitely worth a look now. Tried D'Addario pure nickel strings, found the wound three to be too low output. I swear the core wire looked like it belonged in acoustic strings. Maybe I got a factory defect, who knows. Gibson strings sound great initially but the 'G' starts to sound dead after a week and the wound strings sound dead and filthy in three weeks. These on the other hand sound marvelous. They sound great out of the package, stay balanced, and sound good for longer than I thought possible.MidnightRiderInTX
I have recently come back to playing the guitar, Sax is my primary instrument but I have had my Gibson RD Standard since 1978. I have since increased my heard of guitars to 10 electric guitars and 3 bass guitars. I have come to favor the Ernie Ball lights and super lights on almost all my guitars. I play the 9's on all of my Stratocaster copies and the super lights on the 3/4 size guitars. I have been using the Power Slinkys (11s) for a few years now. I had switched from another brand because the Slinkys made my Strat sound more Straty. After watching a few videos on YouTube about string gauge, I thought I would buy the Regular Slinkys (10s) and see what difference that would make. When I got online to buy I saw that Guitar Center had a sale on 12 packs and since there is a pandemic, I thought it prudent to hoard strings. My logic was that while I may run out of TP, I would never run out of strings for my guitars. Long story short, you cannot go wrong with the tone of 10s. I do like them better than the 11s. They are much clearer in the low end and you get more definition. I have to do less EQing when recording and they just seem to pop better in a mix. The only downside is that they are taking me time to get used to, I play very heavy handed and these are much easier to bend. But I can already see that I have less hand fatigue.Richard

These strings are much better than the strings I used to use. I love how the bottom end pops out a lot more and gives it a lot more foundation and volume. I tried them on both of my Martin dreds (D16GT and D18 standard) and I wound up disappointed both times. They sounded ok at first, very bright and crisp as you'd expect, but I found they left something to be desired as far as overall dynamics are concerned, bordering on an almost 'tinny' sound that you might get from lesser sets. I also found that they dulled up and died out very quickly (before you ask, both guitars are kept on their cases with proper humidity control when not in use, and I make a point to wipe down the strings each time before putting them to bed). 3 days of moderate practice and one short gig was all it took for the D18. Off they came. Maybe I just got a 'meh' batch, maybe they're just not for me. In any case, that's my take. Again, everything else about this company is 5 star worthy, so keep that in mind.Jesse B

Loudest, longest lasting strings Best phosphor bronze I have played. I like elixirs, but these are are louder and have a fuller sound. Definitely the longest lasting strings I have ever put on a guitar. I normally break a string after about six weeks, but I just changed a set of these after six months without a string breaking. If these don't sound right to you, you either don't like phosphor bronze, or you didn't read the directions on the packet and you deadened the strings by not crimping before cutting the string.
Usually I play coated strings to make them last longer since I teach a lot. However, I needed to stop compromising my sound and my student had an extra pack he insisted I try. Now, I am not usually one to write a review – but this is a great and relatively inexpensive way to improve your sound. Have not tried round core strings before, though I do like DR Tite-fit for electric. But on an acoustic, they really add a lot and the round feels so much more flexible, playing 12's feels almost like 11's but gives you a thundering volume. I've been through 2 sets in what a coated string would normally take in 2 sets, so I am saying it is definitely worth checking out and not bothering with coated strings!!! Finally!!! I've tried DR strings with the recommendation of others and found them to be my absolute favorite for my old Yamaha acoustic. The Black Beauties, which these replaced, played great but had premature coating wear. I like the feel of them, especially on pull offs, where the strings stay put until you say go. The Neons are coated much better and everyone wows them and wants to know if they are real (or plastic). I like them a lot, they have that good feel and less finger pain, but the rainbow effect may wear off in months to come. Then I'll get another set of DR Black Beauties.Gregg

I have used Ernie Ball Slinkys since I started playing guitar (time that can be measured in decades, that's all I say). I have been through other top brands, and just don't like them. I have gotten to know EB strings to the point where I can nearly predict when they'll break. That's good in my book. The lively tone and intonation stays for a LONG time. And they're good enough to scrape clean and, in the word of Billy Idol, Start Again. Well, that beats boiling them (RIP EVH).
