Many of my crafting projects involve adding a final coat to preserve paint color and any other details I've added. I like to make tile coasters. The problem I've encountered over the years is that sprays are either 1) noxious in their odor, 2) spread unevenly, 3) aren't exact waterproof or heat resistant, and 4) bubble up, leaving a finish that isn't so smooth. When used outdoors or in a well-ventilated area, the Rust-Oleum product dries quickly and evenly. Usually, I apply three thin layers to my projects, giving them 72 hours to dry. Never have I had an issue with my coated coasters sticking to hot drinks or packing material when I ship them off as gifts. The product its self is top notch. I use them for spray paint art and the colours are vibrant and deep for the most part apart from like certain blues and pink's for obvious reasons. The low pressure so easy to control. I'd reccomend them to spray paint artists and and taggers alike
Used it to paint my bass guitar, so if using on wood that has already been painted, make sure to rough it with sandpaper, taking care to remove all of the glossy varnish coat if there is one. The rough surface allows the spray paint to adhere to the last coat. I gave the wood 5-6 light coats of paint, allowing around 15 minutes between each coat. It's also advised that you use these in warmish weather at the very least, in a well ventilated area (I sprayed outside). All in all, great product, vibrant colour, would recommend!

This is by far the worst paint I have ever used. It doesn’t go over other rustoleum paints. I started with a Rustoleum grey color, when I ran out I thought I would go more metallic. The can was wrong when it said that it was compatible with other paints. It’s hard to sand, and peels very easy. In addition it is very hard to get an even coat. I’m pretty unimpressed with this spray paint. I liked the color, but the “paint and primer” feature was not strong enough for my project. I was painting a few small black picture frames, but 1 can ended up not being enough so I had to buy a second. The second can was defecting and sprayed splotchy and dripped paint everywhere. I ended up having to sand down the spots and drops and repaint with a different spray paint. I noticed some splotting with the first can as well, but not nearly as bad. I wish I had just started with a different separate paint and primer.Katie
The only reason this got two stars is because my chairs were absolutely gorgeous for about a month! I love the depth of color this has, and it was exactly what I was looking for! I bought a set of wicker chairs second hand that were a hideous pink. Instead of sanding, I scrubbed the chairs with a good degreaser and a brush. I did a black primer black on them first, then coated them in this lovely paint. They were stunning, especially after i added the recovered chair cushions! I smiled happily every time i saw them on my deck for about a month. Then they started flaking. The paint is less than a year old, and the paint has flaked off horribly… you get some flakes on your clothes every time you sit on them. I definitely wouldnt recommend for furniture use!Bethany
Oh my!! This is some strong fumes! Mine did tend to spit as I started and stopped it. Perhaps it should have been shaken more. It does spray at any angle! I love Michaels, so this isn't a review of them. And Krylon is usually a very solid, reliable brand. However, they completely mislabeled this spray paint. Both by name (Chrome) and with the shiny, chrome, mirror like finish on the cap. This paint is not chrome by any stretch of the imagination. It's silver. Pure & simple. it's a very nice silver, but no mirror-like finish as implies by the cap! And the finish scratches and flakes off very easily.XTOS
Used it to spray over glass vases. I let it dry upside down overnight, but after handling it the next morning, it left behind my fingerprints! Then after setting it on fresh newspaper, it still stuck to the bottom of the glass, and when I pulled it off, it left behind traction marks from where it stuck to the paper, plus pulled off some of the paint. I would suggest if you use it glass let it dry 2 days at least without handling it. Noticed after the 2nd day I could touch it without adding my fingerprintFloraldesigner

I work in the toy industry and spend a lot of time painting prototypes. Gold is notoriously difficult to work with in water base form. I use the shortcuts gold leaf as a base color and tint as needed with an overspray. The Chrome is essentially silver. They go on in nearly one coat, dry nicely, and look great. As for the other colors, I've never used them, but I know that the plastic cap color never matches the actual paint. Here are some tips for anyone who is interested. Primer the surface white first if you want the colors to be brightest, spraying on dark surfaces causes the color to dull. Sand the surfaces of smooth/glossy objects before painting them. The paint will adhere better and is less likely to chip off. Don't spray too much on the first pass. Spraying too much at once will case drips, do a pass, let it dry and do a second coat. Don't hold down the nozzle the entire time, spray in short bursts (and not too close), this helps you disribute paint evenly and avoid drips. Happy painting!Emily1987

I bought 2 cans of this same spray paint, both tips clogged. I soaked them in paint thinner, still clogged, I soaked them overnight, still clogged. They make the tips so you can't interchange them with any other brand. So now I have 1 1/2 cans of spray paint and no tips. Rustoleum wants you to jump through hoops to get any refund etc. including taking pictures and sending. Taking pictures of the cans numbers? and sending, signing some affadavit all this for a 25 cent tip. Good paint ruined by a 25 cent tip. Makes no sense. I said that's it no more Rustoleum, I'll buy Krylon and haven't had a single problem since.GARYRETH

It sprayed on like dust on my bookshelf. The only way I could get it to stick on the material was to get it within a couple of inches, and then it created horrible streaks and pooled up. (I did sand it before spraying.) Finally gave up and sanded down the bookshelf to start over….I was able to just wipe off most of the paint. I tried 3 cans and they all worked the same.cp

It seems like I am CONSTANTLY painting something. If it isn't indoor walls or furniture, it's outdoor garden projects. This is easily a favorite paint for both indoor and outdoor projects! I originally purchased this to restore my outdoor patio sectional. LOVED IT! it was incredibly easy to cover the metal and the textured finish looked amazing! It didn't fade or chip all Summer! What really sold me, however, was its magic on my indoor furniture. I had an entryway piece that was a cheap, manufactured wood that has chipped around the edges. I was just going to throw it out but had extra paint from the patio furniture and just decided to give it a go. Wow! It covered the manufactured wood without an issue and made the piece look so much nicer/more expensive that I kept it! It was the year 2014 and I had just renovated my house. The furniture looked so filthy that I wanted to sell it but I had spent a lot of money already that I couldn't afford to buy new furniture. The kitchen cabinets were looking so ugly and dirty with marks and rust all over that I wanted to get a cover for it but my friend suggested that I get it painted instead. I asked the price to get it painted and they were charged about $30 which was too expensive and when I inquired the price of this paint, the price was so less that I thought I should paint it myself. I started paining the first cabinet and left it for 5 hours to dry and it looked really good as if it was brand new. It took me 5 days to paint all my 5 cabinets and the kitchen was looking perfect after this and whoever came to my house to see the changes I had made kept praising me for getting the cabinets painted on my own and my neighbor asked me about this metallic spray paint and herself purchased it from a nearby store. She was confused of how to use it but it's so simple that I had just to explain her the method of painting and she got her car and other furniture painted with this spray paint. great easy finish for welded projects as it effectively conceals small cosmetic defects like grinder marks. Much better than satin black. Looks as good as any factory finish and requires no primer on clean metal. When applied to worn, scratched and nicked previously painted items it's like an instant refinishing. If the old paint is well adhered and compatible (test in a small area first) this stuff is magic. Surface roughness and scratches pretty much disappear.anonymous

Here is the thing … the "metallic" effect is achieved by some metallic particles mixed with the paint (I can see them floating in the air in the paint cabinet when I spray) but the issue is that these particles are silver in color, so after the paint dries out you barely see the color the paint is supposed to be, you mostly see silver. Also if the can sprays these particles unevenly, a side of your job will show more color/less metallic effect or vice-versa. Ideally these particles should be pigmented like the paint itself, but not the case.Mintaka
