I bought this used through Guitar Center to boost the output of my Eastman 815 acoustic-electric mandolin, which has an internal microphone but was too quiet. I'm a hobbyist but play in worship settings. I was able to EQ the output to sound like the natural mandolin tone and to boost the volume which was important to me, since, on occasion, I play outdoors or in a large church sanctuary. The tuner is a great asset, making clip-on tuners unnecessary. The tone boost gives the mandolin even more volume for those times when you want to play a solo. The unit runs on a 9V battery or a 9v DC adapter. I happened to own already own a 9v DC adapter, and it gave the unit much more power than the battery, which was great. I definitely recommend getting a 9v DC adapter. This was a good buy!Jamie
From the very first moment I plugged in both my Martin D42 guitar with it's Fishman pickup and my five string Stelling Banjo with the KAVANJO pickup system to their respective LR baggs Venue DI preamp's a smile lit up on my face. The sound, the controlled sound, the natural sound that came out of each device was absolutely wonderful. I would have to say that my banjo sounded incredibly smooth… And the guitar tone was the best I've ever gotten from my Martin D 42. It was a pleasure to listen as a strummed or finger picked each instrument. And you could tell that the audience was listening intently… There was no distortion whatsoever. And I've really just started using the device, and haven't fully dialed in the potential. I'd also read a lot about the tuner not being accurate… Well I have two Petersen tuners… Clamp-ons … one on each instrument and I double checked it with the baggs built-in tuner… And so far it has been spot on. The boost switch is fantastic and the mute couldn't be better. I am completely satisfied and delighted that I purchased one LR Baggs Venue DI for each instrument.
I've got 2 LR Baggs Para DI's and have been wanting to try out the Venue DI. I have a Taylor 814 V Deluxe, Taylor 614 and a Taylor 354. I always bring at least one of the 6 strings and the 12 string when I play. All 3 guitars have different tonal qualities, so I wanted separate DI's with EQing abilities for each. The Paras do very well, but I found the Venue to be quicker to dial in a great acoustic tone and it sounds more transparent to me. I love the boost function too!!! Very well built! Like others who have reviewed, the tuner is slow to respond at times and phantom power would have been nice – otherwise this is a 5-plus stars.

At a point several years back I only owned Active Basses, but in the space of two months proceeded to acquire several High-End Basses with Passive Electronics, I was in need for something in my signal chain to raise the output of the Passives to the level of my Active Basses. I took the advice of a close friend who's a true "Professional Bassist" who also knows a great deal about the technical issues of Pedalboards, Large-Scale Amplification and such and picked up the Xotic Bass RC Booster which was the highest-quality he could recommend (I'd rather spend the money once rather than upgrade from a "Beginner's Pedal" to a "Midrange Model" and so on…) That was once of the best pieces of advice I've been given in terms of gear, as to this day the Bass RC Booster is a main piece of equipment on my Pedalboard. Between the 2-Band EQ, Gain & Volume controls I'm able to raise the level of my own Passive Basses or a Bass that I'm using at a Jam or Open Mic to the levels of my Active Bass, which I have all adjusted to Unity Gain as to cause as little issues as possible. Two surprising use of note: with a minimal increase in Volume the Pedal becomes just as useful as a Volume Boost to both Passive & Active Basses for solos, drum 'n bass breakdowns and other times where it's necessary to step out into the spotlight a bit more. Secondly, when the Gain is pushed towards the higher registers you can even can a quite useable "SVT"-type Overdrive. Even players who play with a clean tone will certainly find this added bonus helpful in both live and studio situations. To sum up the Xotic RC Bass Booster, it's an extremely high build-and sonic quality, low noise & versatile Boost effect. Its additional use as a light Overdrive effects is just as effective in its field. I use this often on my Pedalboard, and would replace it immediately if it were lost or stolen. A bit pricey when initially purchasing, it makes up for that as you're buying a Professional Quality effect, and would not have any need to replace with a "better one" a year or so down the road. This is all one would need to cover this area of effects!
I have an Xotic AC Booster and it is one of my fav pedals. At the start of my chain – after the buffer – I have a Compressor, then an old DOD Preamp 250, followed by my AC. I like the sound, but had this setup for a while and was just looking to shake things up. I thought the RC ver 2 would be a great replacement for the DOD as what could be better than 2 xotics in series? Well, not this! The Comp (Wampler Ego; another pedal I like alot) did not play well with the RC. The sound was muddy and lost all definition. The RC alone was OK, but not great. Found the effect of Gain 1 to be pretty darn subtle and really not much better than my old DOD gain pedal. Had to crank RC Gain 1 to full CW to hear much – a very different pedal from the AC which is super responsive. I also found the adjustment for the RC Gain 2 pot to be very awkward for a quick adjustment onstage as is occasionally necessary between songs. So, I was pretty bummed out as I love the AC and I use an Xotic EP booster for regular lead boosts. Just did not work out for me. Hard to decide if I would recommend the RC. Personally, I am very picky about effects, usually use only 2 at most at one time (e.g. Comp + AC; EQ + Delay, etc.) . So I think i would say that I do not recommend…but you may like it.BCY123
I'm surprised at how much I use this pedal. I bought it to boost the signal of passive basses and it does that and a lot more. The EQ points are right where you need them. And because you can preset those as well as the volume, when you switch to a passive bass in the middle of a live performance there is no time wasted fiddling with knobs trying to match the sound of your active bass. Also it's useful as a clean boost on active basses for those times when your hands are busy and you can't adjust your amp in the middle of a song. Just pre-set the pedal to a little boost and any time you need it, you've got it with a quick stomp of the foot. The third use I find for this pedal is with effects. You can use it to put a little boost before any overdrive/distortion pedal it will increase the gain. I love this because I like the sound of the Morning Glory pedal, but it doesn't get quite dirty enough. Most pedals that get as dirty as I want don't sound the way the Morning Glory does so this is perfect for me. And the other way it's useful is to add bottom end to distortion pedals (which are famous for not supporting the low end very well). Preset a little bass boost and when you stomp the overdrive/distortion pedal also click on the Xotic RC.PDGood

Absolutely the best pedal that I have ever heard. For classic rock, blues, country edge, NOTHING I've heard can beat it. After playing 40 years and amassing more pedals than I care to admit, I lined them all up for a shootout and started selling off the losers. Just recently I became aware of the BB Preamp, after seeing a video of Andy Timmons set-up. It rocketed to the top of my list and knocked my previous favorite pedal (cmatmods Signa Drive) to the number two spot. I was amazed at the tone and responsiveness of the BB Preamp. It enhances your tone, but leaves it alone, with hardly any coloring at all – very transparent. I play a Mesa Boogie Lonestar Special, and honestly, this pedal sounds as good or better than the drive channel of that $2000 amp. gets that deafening svt sound at merely uncomfortable volume. bass knob has just the right freq to be low and fat without mud and boom. treble goes from warm and smooth to nasty. even without any gain it makes a better tone for your whole rig and band. don't let the lack off a clean blend dissuade you. this doesn't need it and sounds more focused and realistic by pushing your entire signal. easily does slight grit to lotsa grind. I use a EP booster in front of it to get more gain and volume when I want it and it sounds huge with tons of sustainJeff
The Xotic Bass BB Preamp was the first "Quality" pedal I purchased when I moved from Multi-Effects Units and Boss/Korg/DigiTech mass-produced effects to Individual Pedals, and while there are a number of high quality/high-end "SVT-In-A-Box" Overdrive/Distortion Pedals on the market now I still consider this to be among the top units. Firstly is it's perfect balance of ease-of-use vs variety of tone: between its overlapping Treble & Bass EQ section & Gain control, it's quite easy to go from adding just a touch of Overdriven "dirt" into an otherwise Clean Bass tone to Lemmy or Type O Negative's Peter Steele full-on "Lead Bass" Distortion, and many different examples in-between (Entwistle, Squire, Lee and Commerford). However, the amount of Gain you choose to use does not overwhelm the inherent sound of *your* playing style and *your* Bass and other gear. A Jazz Bass will continue to sound like a Jazz Bass, a Precision will sound like a Precision, StingRay, Ibanez, etc… Adding the 2-band EQ section into the equation will continue to give you more options: for example, if you're using a "60's"-type Jazz Bass (Alder Body, Rosewood Fretboard) you may very well want to add some additional treble EQ to sound closer to the stereotypically brighter "70's J-Bass" (Ash Body, Maple Fretboard)… or not, if you simply want to add overdrive/distortion. I've found that while other Bass Overdrive/Distortion pedals may have more functions and knobs/switches, I personally find Gain-increasing effects to be better with a minimum of controls. One feature is of great use both in the Studio/Recording setting, or if you should find yourself with a massive "Preamp/Head/Amp Failure" before a show: as its name implies, the Xotic Bass BB Preamp has enough output to drive a Power Amplifiler or to the Mixing Board on its own. This "Emergency Function" alone is worth its weight in gold if you don't have an alternative method of amplification should catastrofic failure happens. And you wouldn't even need to play the show using a distorted tone is your usual is a clean one – by simply not increasing the Gain you still have a perfectly good 2-band Preamp at your foot/fingertips. The quality of the pedal is also second to none. Hand-wired with top-of-the-line parts, its potentiometers & input/output Jacks are all heavy duty, and the footswitch clicks on and off with an audible (and forcefull) "click". The only negative that comes to mind is not only its but most modern pedal: it will drain a 9V battery very quickly. However, as most Bassists as well as myself are switching to pedalboard-mounted multiple pedal power supplies, I doubt this is a true negative to most players. Again, there are many Bass Overdrive/Distortion pedals on the market currently that give you a choice between multiple presets, more bands of EQ, XLR Outputs, and numerous other functions. However, I believe the Xotic Bass BB Preamp combines ease-of-use, a good deal of tones at its potential & high quality craftsmanship at a reasonable price of pedals of its caliber.

The Battalion is great. Spent a long time trying to find the best distorted signal for my playing and finally found the right thing for me. Has plenty of options and a variety of other really useful features. The noise gate, although simple and the envelope being a bit too long is still really useful for it's intention. The Compressor is again basic but works as intended and gives the sound way more punch. The EQ is true and allows for a greater deal of control over the signal. Overall: I loved this pedal when I first got it. The tone was great, the distortion was decent, and the compression was nice. This being a DI was one of the main selling points for me as I run direct into a set of Bose systems for gigs. I rarely used the distortion, but always tone and compression.After about 5-6 months the distortion stopped working, it would just pop and cut in and out. Around 6 months after that the DI slot stopped working all together, which rendered the pedal useless to me outside of practice. Figured it would last longer for the price.

I recently replaced a 5 watt Roland cube street with the more powerful cube street EX. I was disappointed that the EX did not come with Roland JC setting. The clean setting on the EX produced a sterile, cold sound that I warmed up nicely with the Behringer tube modeler. This was my only reason for purchasing this pedal. Case is plastic to evidently help with cost. With the cost of musical equipment any help is great. I take very good care of equipment so I do not "stomp" on them. Pedal has quality sounds that seem to work within relm of eq'ing. This pedal has it's own drive built in although a bit sensitive. Take your time and you can dial in some quality tones and sounds. I play lots of various music ranging from southern, blues and Christian rock and have been able to fine something nice that works with each style or genre. Again the pedal controls seem a little sensitive so take your time when you start with the pedal. I enjoy expermiemting so this facet is a-ok by me. Over all good pedal.Bo L.
I've had the pedal a couple weeks now and I am more familiar with it. I may have written a previous review so this might be an update… I purchased this pedal for the few times I would have to play on others' amps that don't have any effects as I already have two very good modeling amps. It works great on the modeling amps with the clean channels selected. Recently I bought a Fender Blues Jr which has no effects. I am in a small space where you really can't crank up the volume. To cut to the chase, the TM300 can stand toe to toe with either of my modeling amps, either plugged into them or the Blues Jr. In the modeling amps it provides more clean voices than the amps do without a lot of fiddling. You can also use the distortion/overdrive features instead of the amps' native on-board features if you wish. It is very intuitive and if you take the time to play with it you can come up with some very interesting combinations. I have a Les Paul Custom and a Fender Strat. And though both have upgraded pickups I couldn't quite get the sounds I wanted. The LP was a little too jazz-like and muddy when played in distortion thru the amps. The Strat was just tinny and quacky. I was considering changing out the pickups in both a second time. The TM300 breathed new life into my LP. I can now dial in the sound I want without having the change the pickups. The Strat has a richer fuller sound when I want and the quack when I want. I got this one simply because it was cheap and I just wanted to play around. Venti cinco dolares? Are you kidding me??? The only drawbacks are: 1) It has a plastic housing. It's not heavy duty like a Boss. 2) If you use 9V batteries you have to take the stomper off the change them. A minor annoyance. 3) If you use batteries you have to be careful to unplug the unit after use or it will burn thru your battery in less than a day. Or you will have to buy a 9V adapter. BUT… If you don't want power cables and like to keep things neater, the battery option will help and will also make it more portable as you don't have to pack a power cable if you go anywhere with it. This is my 3rd Behringer pedal, and though not the best in the world I own 3 for 75 buckaroos… less than the price of one professional pedal. For an amateur they work fine and can help a newbie find out what they like and need in pedals without a lot of financial pain.

Well you know how some people are when it comes to amplifiers on stage for church worship services. They don't want them because they think everyone will start cranking up and jockeying for sound. So I bought this direct box. Its amazing! You will like it a lot. I plug my acoustic guitar straight in and then send it to the house speakers. We have a Presonus 32.4.1 AI mixer in the new building. My favorite thing about this is the eq settings. I can dial in a sweet tone, my settings are bass at 2oclock, mids at 2 o'clock and presence and highs at 1 o'clock. Gain at 12 and volume at 3. This box is really all you need. I don't like tinny trebly sounding acoustic guitars. The bass and mids are wonderful for balancing out some highs and giving the guitar a "fullness". This box sounds very realistic. It is a very good representation of how the guitar sounds unplugged. I have a B Band pickup under the saddle so i have never had any frequency issues. I don't use the notch. I also use a TC electronic arena reverb pedal. Make sure you send the acoustic into the Para DI first and then to the reverb pedal or else it don't sound good. You can do this by getting an effects send return 1/4" cable and using the FX jack on the DI. Nice feature!! I will say i think this box sounded better on the old analog mixing board at our church, but I'm sure we can tweak it to the Presonus. Our church just moved from a 14,000 sq ft building into a 30,000 sq. ft. new building and new sound system so the room is playing into effect also. You need to keep this in mind. The old room had 12 ft. tile ceilings. The new building has 40 ft. ceilings. I think it sounds good coming out the house but it still sounds a bit digital in my headphones. If you've ever faced the problems of booming (or too thin) bass, acoustic feedback, "quacking," nasal sounding treble, or clicking picks, you will welcome this marvelous box. On my very first gig with the Baggs, I told the sound man to set the board flat and let me handle the EQ. With just a little experimentation and adjustment, I was able to boost the bass to the point where it was full but not booming, eliminate quacking and feedback, and balance the sound on my Taylor GS7 across the musical spectrum from low to high. When the sound man called down from the booth that he could hear my picks clicking on the strings, a few tweaks of the mid-high and presence knobs dialed that right out, without sacrificing volume or clarity on the treble strings. Admittedly, it's a bit tricky to master the somewhat complex settings on this sophisticated device, and the minimal instructions provided by Baggs don't help as much as one would wish. But there are some helpful videos on YouTube, and with a little experimentation you can get this box under control. I love the sound that it lets me get out of my guitar, and can't imagine that your experience would be any different. The best DI for acoustic guitar I've ever used. I bought one of these little gems at a local music store for almost ten years ago and it's like brand new. Quiet. Clean. I have a Tascam DP24 and there is ZERO hum or hiss in the signal. Onstage, I darned well won't use anything else for my Guild J series. The control over feedback in a live setting is incredible. I can notch out any hint of feedback with just a tiny alteration of the sweep knob. If my strings are a little old, I can dial in some crispness. The control in the lower mid to low high end is most sensitive–and very impressive. Most DI's give you a flat signal all across the spectrum which is okay for bass guitar or keys, but somehow this little guy gives me a certain springiness in the mid's, about 800 Hz to around 1.5 KHz. I frickin' love it. It turn my acoustic into a lead instrument that doesn't get lost in the mix.Michelle

Amazing little pedal, set the internal DIP to flat and not the "vintage" roll off (my opinion) even if you use zero level boost the overall buffering and sweetening to your signal is just better. Once on, you will forget about it (end of chain, after drives) only when you switch it off you'll realize, "oh yeah that makes everything sound better". What it does to the EQ and overall signal tone is unlike any other pedal I have used including all so called "based on EP3 boost circuit" stuff. The line boost really brings out the amp's potential tonality. Cuts through the mix and really enhances the amp's tonal character. Currently running it in front of a Blackstar 100 watt tube head that is paired with a Marshall 1960 Vintage cab equipped with Celestion V 75's. The sound is great. This is a great boost pedal, no doubt about that. I bought this used for less than half the price and while it does exactly what it should I have used boost pedals that are nearly identical that are at half this retail price point. If you have a lot of money to burn and are looking for the best boost this very well might be it, however this money may be better spent on a pedal that is more versatile and more noticeable in the overall sound of your pedal chain. This pedal is a clean boost and only flavors your sound slightly, and what it adds sounds very natural and very good; the build quality is top-notch aswell. So my rating is based on the fact that I feel such basic circuitry shouldn't cost as much as this does, and I would highly recommend buying this on the used market if you can get a nice discounted price.Rareintech

I normally play flamenco guitar and have a very good acoustic amp I use for flamenco. I acquired an electric guitar, and needed a vintage overdrive sound, but I didn't want to buy another guitar amplifier. This unit does exactly what I need, providing a good range of distortion from mild to heavy, transforming my acoustic amp into what sounds more like a vintage tube amp. My wife likes the sound of the acoustic amp and TO800 combo, which surprised me because she usually doesn't care much for the sound of electric guitars. I'm very happy with this unit. I got this pedal to use with a low gain amp at rehearsals. I didn't want to drag out my regular board or take it apart. I was looking for an inexpensive overdrive pedal. I saw this , read the reviews and said what the heck. I actually got the pedal for free as I had enough reward points. I regularly use a Boss Blues Driver which I have had for over ten years. I got the pedal and hooked it up and was pleasantly surprised. It is very comparable to my Blues Driver. It accepts both my Dunlop nine volt adapters and my One Spot power supplies. The case is metal. I may even incorporate it into my regular board for another degree of overdrive. If you are considering trying an OD pedal, you can't go wrong with this. I am a semi professional guitarist with over fifty years of playing experience. I use tube amps and mainly American Fender guitars. I know what I'm talking about. An OD pedal is not the same as a distortion pedal. The purpose of an OD is to push you're amp to a higher gain level than it may be capable of or to give you a little more guts when playing a lead without changing the settings on your amp. The Good: The sound of this thing is great for grimy, doom metal. It's easy to use, sounds great, and has a decent depth of customization. The Bad: You have to press in the hinges on the pedal itself as the battery is under the pedal. It was scratched up before I even got to play it because of this. There's no reason the manufacturer could not have just put a small door in the bottom of the unit like every other pedal I've ever used. Also, the first time I changed the battery, the negative wire pulled out of the connector. I've decided that since I already bought it and like the way it sounds, I'm going to jury-rig a battery connector outside the main body. It'll look like cr4p, but I'll be able to use it without damaging it further and won't have to spend extra for a 110v adapter. I had read about the difficulty changing the battery, but figured I'd give it a shot because it's got so low-priced. Had I gone to a brink and mortar store and seen it, I would not have purchased this unit. If someone already has an adapter they plan on using with it, by all means do so.Russ G

I purchased this one pedal to be all the pedals I don't want to buy as single units. I have an extensive pedal collection but I have grown tired of hauling around a pedal board filled with effect units I only use every now and then. I decided that a good way to remedy that would be to add a pedal that could function as simple delay, reverb, boost, and modulation. I have greatly reduced the amount of pedals on my board thanks to this unit. The weakness of the VOX Stomplab IG is in the distortion/overdrive/amp selection. I didn't find any that I found pleasing to my ears but I didn't expect to. I did find a few low gain overdrives that were acceptable but nothing I loved. I intended to keep my overdrive and distortion pedals my board anyway, so I wasn't worried about it. The compressor is solid, but a bit noisy. The delays and reverbs are quite good and I consider those alone, worth the price tag. my pedal board is now just a few choice pedals and the VOX stomplab IG serving as single and multi effect pedal. I absolutely love this pedal. The modeling, especially, is quite wonderful. It's basically everything in the Vox VTS series (I think it's called) in one pedal. Only thing I wish is that distortion/overdrive was as easy to select and control (independently of everything else) as much as the delay is. But that could just mean I still have learning to do. This is a great pedal for home recording or shows that you want to avoid bringing a loud amp. You can plug this right into a PA, choose the amp model you want and it sounds just like you have an amp right there. For the money I think this is a great accessory for any working guitarist to own.
I am trying really hard to like this. With regards to the preset effects, some 9fnthe sound pretty good. But some of them, it's like they are non existent or pretty horrible sounding. The other issue is you are supposed to bypass the effects. But of you do, your volume reduces so significantly that I either have to turn up the volume on the amp, or disconnect this thing all together and connect directly to amp. The last issue is that creating your own defects is pretty hard to understand. The instructions are not very helpful and it is pretty hard to understand the abbreviations used on the box to figure out what effect you are working with. Oh btw, you have to hold the power button down for a couple of second for it to turn on. If you don't it will seem it is not working. So, this thing is not horrible, but the verdict is out as to whether it is something that will end up collecting dust in a cornerJohn, G

Thinking about adding a 15 inch speaker but probably not necessary. Being an old school bass player this really is great for the songs my band plays.
Easy to work with, has a great soundstage to it and to my ears sounds better than Radial DI and plug-ins. Does have a little ‘woofy’ sound to it that a little post eq cut ( in the box) would help. But a great product to get that vintage bass sound. My go to bass sound for recordings! Recommend!
In my opinion, as a bass player since 1967, and a luthier/tube amp tech since 1973 Simon Keats at Origin Effects designs the best sounding pedals (reproductions of vintage amps & compressors) and are the highest quality pedals on the planet. I bought both Bassrig versions which duplicate their respective amps ( the '64, a Fender blackface Showman and the Super Vintage, an Ampeg SVT) which reproduce very accurately these amps from the input to the output jack, and both even have a cab sim on the XLR output. Absolutely the best pedal that I have ever heard. For classic rock, blues, country edge, NOTHING I've heard can beat it. After playing 40 years and amassing more pedals than I care to admit, I lined them all up for a shootout and started selling off the losers. Just recently I became aware of the BB Preamp, after seeing a video of Andy Timmons set-up. It rocketed to the top of my list and knocked my previous favorite pedal (cmatmods Signa Drive) to the number two spot. I was amazed at the tone and responsiveness of the BB Preamp. It enhances your tone, but leaves it alone, with hardly any coloring at all – very transparent. I play a Mesa Boogie Lonestar Special, and honestly, this pedal sounds as good or better than the drive channel of that $2000 amp. gets that deafening svt sound at merely uncomfortable volume. bass knob has just the right freq to be low and fat without mud and boom. treble goes from warm and smooth to nasty. even without any gain it makes a better tone for your whole rig and band. don't let the lack off a clean blend dissuade you. this doesn't need it and sounds more focused and realistic by pushing your entire signal. easily does slight grit to lotsa grind. The Xotic Bass BB Preamp was the first "Quality" pedal I purchased when I moved from Multi-Effects Units and Boss/Korg/DigiTech mass-produced effects to Individual Pedals, and while there are a number of high quality/high-end "SVT-In-A-Box" Overdrive/Distortion Pedals on the market now I still consider this to be among the top units. Firstly is it's perfect balance of ease-of-use vs variety of tone: between its overlapping Treble & Bass EQ section & Gain control, it's quite easy to go from adding just a touch of Overdriven "dirt" into an otherwise Clean Bass tone to Lemmy or Type O Negative's Peter Steele full-on "Lead Bass" Distortion, and many different examples in-between (Entwistle, Squire, Lee and Commerford). However, the amount of Gain you choose to use does not overwhelm the inherent sound of *your* playing style and *your* Bass and other gear. A Jazz Bass will continue to sound like a Jazz Bass, a Precision will sound like a Precision, StingRay, Ibanez, etc… Adding the 2-band EQ section into the equation will continue to give you more options: for example, if you're using a "60's"-type Jazz Bass (Alder Body, Rosewood Fretboard) you may very well want to add some additional treble EQ to sound closer to the stereotypically brighter "70's J-Bass" (Ash Body, Maple Fretboard)… or not, if you simply want to add overdrive/distortion. I've found that while other Bass Overdrive/Distortion pedals may have more functions and knobs/switches, I personally find Gain-increasing effects to be better with a minimum of controls. One feature is of great use both in the Studio/Recording setting, or if you should find yourself with a massive "Preamp/Head/Amp Failure" before a show: as its name implies, the Xotic Bass BB Preamp has enough output to drive a Power Amplifiler or to the Mixing Board on its own. This "Emergency Function" alone is worth its weight in gold if you don't have an alternative method of amplification should catastrofic failure happens. And you wouldn't even need to play the show using a distorted tone is your usual is a clean one – by simply not increasing the Gain you still have a perfectly good 2-band Preamp at your foot/fingertips. The quality of the pedal is also second to none. Hand-wired with top-of-the-line parts, its potentiometers & input/output Jacks are all heavy duty, and the footswitch clicks on and off with an audible (and forcefull) "click". The only negative that comes to mind is not only its but most modern pedal: it will drain a 9V battery very quickly. However, as most Bassists as well as myself are switching to pedalboard-mounted multiple pedal power supplies, I doubt this is a true negative to most players. Again, there are many Bass Overdrive/Distortion pedals on the market currently that give you a choice between multiple presets, more bands of EQ, XLR Outputs, and numerous other functions. However, I believe the Xotic Bass BB Preamp combines ease-of-use, a good deal of tones at its potential & high quality craftsmanship at a reasonable price of pedals of its caliber.

The addition of the Boss style adaptor plug was a very welcome modification. The indicator light is cool as well. Both were absent in earlier versions of this classic overdrive. I've owned all versions of this pedal, including the original grey and yellow pedals. This is a nice take on them and the lighter weight casing appears to be aluminum. The originals and later reissues used a cast material that was heavy and was a bit of overkill for such a simple circuit. This is a great alternative to those. The circuit has a tendency to be a little bassy especially as the gain is increased. It lends itself to single coil guitars very well(yngwie) but works great with humbucking pickups as well. One of my all time favorite over drives, and I own them all. Stacks well with other pedals. Everyone should try this one, it rips.Duke
I'm in an acoustic jam group and needed some extra punch for my vintage Guild D-40 so it didn't get swallowed up when taking solos. Running a Fisher soundhole pickup through a 25W Danelectro solid state amp just didn't do the trick, but adding this does. I set it very clean with the gain dial at its lowest setting and the level up, using the eq on the Danny to brighten up the highs. A very natural sound, not like through the mic, but good for my purposes. With the gain up a bit, the added sustain on the low end was a pleasant surprise. The LED light is so bright, I'll never forget and leave it on. My one complaint so far is the changing the battery involves unscrewing four screws and taking the back off — why not build it with a slide-open compartment? When I hooked it up to my Tele, it took a little tweaking to get the setting right, but it produces a nice gritty sound. For the price, I'm happySwampy
I have been playing guitar since 1979. I have owned this pedal at least (2) times in my life. Currently I am in a band using EMG loaded Strats and an EMG loaded LP Custom. I play through a "Made in England" JCM 2000 DSL 50 Amplifier. The "Classic" channel has a mode that will give you a 1970's Super Lead or JCM 800 tone. I have used Super Leads all my life until now. So the "Ultra" channel has the gain and sustain you would want for heavier riffs and definitely for guitar solo's. The "Classic" channel, much like my Super Leads, has a great rhythm tone but suffers from a lack of sustain for guitar solos. There's nothing worse than playing a guitar solo and having the vibrato notes fade out too quickly. So I decided a quality boost pedal would goose the front of the amp in "Classic" mode to increase sustain without changing the tone. I looked at Xotic EP Booster's, Xotic SL, MXR Echoplex, and the MXR micro amp. All were very good but I thought they were a little too expensive. When I saw the DOD 250 Overdrive/Pre Amp "on sale" I immediately placed my order. Now for more than half the price I have a pedal that has a level control to goose the front end of my Marshall and the added benefit of a Gain knob should I decide to add a little more Gain. The DOD 250 is a transparent OD/Boost pedal with big head room. You can tell it doesn't mess with your tone too much. So, if you are looking for a boost pedal like what I stated above, I strongly suggest checking out the DOD 250. Save money and get the boost you need and the added gain knob as an extra feature. 100% satisfied and I feel great about saving money. A win win pedal.

great value; plenty volume on tap; treble and bass very usable; does color tone a bit but in a good thick way; less bass helps clear up the sound a bit. with small toggle switch in down pos perhaps a little more transparent and with toggle up adds a little more girth to the tone. flat response with vol around 1 o'clock, gain at 7 o'clock, bass at around 10 o'clock and treble around 3 o'clock (at least with my circuit…); gain begins to gets very "gainy" adding significant volume at around 10 o'clock and from will continue to increase to an extreme full tone slightly mid scooped distortion. not designed to be a big bumble bee crackly fuzz but like its label states an "overdrive" and will defiantly push your amp into breakup from mild to extreme.baycman
This pedal has gotta be one of the most underrated OD pedals out there…. especially given its price point. I have A,B'd this thing against modded BD-2s, modded OD-3's, and the SD-1W and the Mojomojo is just bigger and less tinty. I dont want it to be, but it is. It is a wonderful sounding OD and is great for OD rhythm sounds. It is in the cranked Marshall class of OD's so not to be confused with the green OD pedal. The only area that some of my modded ODs beat it in is sustain. It does tail off on lead stuff sooner than some more expensive pedals. That is the only area that it doesn't win though. You can also use this as an always on boost as well. All in all this thing always seems to knock more expensive pedals off my board time and time again. Highly recommend this pedal and at it's price point it should be in all OD aficionados collection.KL
I use the MojoMojo on my Fender G-DEC Junior and it helps to make the amp sound warmer, richer and fuller. The MojoMojo when dialed in right adds a very slight and suttle low mid thickness, hard to explain. I find its not a "set it and forget it" type of pedal (i.e. Tube screamer), for each amp setting I have to dial it in or it will sound muddy but with a little tweaking between the amp settings and the pedal settings (usually level settings rather than tone knobs) I can get them matched tonally and sonically, bass tone knob is usually set pretty low. I use low output humbuckers and it works great with these. I can get nice overdrive without changing the amps overall characteristic sound.

I have always appreciated TC Electronic for the great effect boxes that they make. Each one is built like a brick house, and this Hall of Fame 2 is no exception. Anything from gated reverbs to reverse are available in this easy to use package. I use mine primarily for my Moog Subsequent37 to enhance the sounds on it even further and I'm always pleased with the results. I also have the smaller Hall of Fame that I use with my Marshall top, but I think you can expand even deeper with this one. The other thing that I love about their products is the availability of the TonePrints, and there are many to chose from. There just seems to be no end of what type of sound you are looking for when you use the Hall of Fame 2 in your arsenal of effects. I am very pleased with this purchase and, as always, I'll be looking forward to more in the future. Sweetwater always treats me right when I order anything from them and I kind of like the candy too. I would recommend this unit to anyone looking to expand their horizons and, of course, if you have any questions about anything, contact your Sweetwater Sales rep, because they have the answers you need.
Needed a reverb pedal as my recent amp purchase, Marshall Origin 20H does not have onboard reverb. Decent sound from subtle to cavernous. AN expression function on the switch adds more versatility. As a professional recording engineer I've been familiar with TC Electronic for decades. I've used TC Electronic gear for a long time in the studio and have always found it to be the best of the best. However, as a hobbyist guitar player I was not as familiar with TC pedals as I was with pedals by other manufacturers (MXR, Dunlop, Boss, Ibanez, etc…). I've been looking for a good reverb pedal to run in my FX loop because the reverb built into the amp is pre FX Send and since I play with tons of gain I have a gate (TC Sentry – also amazing) in the FX loop and the gate was cutting off the reverb tails. I considered a variety of Reverb pedals but ultimately decided on the TC Hall of Fame 2 for several reasons. First, TC knows reverb, their System 6000 reverb is 13,000 without the remote, 15,000 with the remote. And they are using algorithms from the System 6000 in the Hall of Fame 2 – pretty cool. Additionally, with Tone Print capabilities you get unlimited preset options and the ability to design your own Tone Prints. This is an incredible powerful and amazing sounding pedal. Overall: This is purely a review on the quality of the product itself not based on the sound. For the price I am beyond disappointed on the quality of this pedal. The knobs are gritty, and make a noise when you twist them. They are so tall that your toes will hit them every time you turn the pedal on and off. The on/off buttons feel fragile, they won’t last very long. One the most infuriating things about this pedals design is the expression switch. It’s a inch away from the on off switch and like with everything else on this pedal feels fragile and will most likely get stepped on and broken off. The box is grey and the labeling is light blue which makes reading the pedal harder than it should have to be. Over all I’m feeling stupid for spending $400 after tax on this pedal.Nick

Initial plug and play left me with the impression that this pedal adds a lot of volume to your guitar without coloring over the tone. The EQ is very responsive to inputs and really help me dial in the tones I have in my head. Of the Drive Clipping options like the Blue (Timmy/King of Tone) and Amber (Marshall) options best. The Green (tube screamer) and Yellow (treble boost) are to harsh for my liking however paired with the Drive, I like the Boost on Yellow, which has the least body, as it doesn't get in the way of the Drive's EQ. What I like most was being able to alter the Internal Presence Trim Pot, I left the internal tone trim pot alone. From the factory the Presence and Tone are at 12 o'clock buy the Pedal is a little harsh and rolling off the Presence sweetened the Tone and now, it's perfect. I don't MIDI, yet, so only having CC rather than PC does not really affect me. If you want a great Over Drive Pedal with Boost, this Pedal is a must try. Also, the Gain Cycling is very intuitive and I set the gain do I'm on the 3rd cycle, that way I can gain up once and have 2 lower gain options. It cleans up well.David

It is the sound of The White Stripes, QoTSA, The Black Keys. If that is what you are after, get it. It is a always on pedal and it feels like a amp, not a pedal. Listen to Magic Potion by The Black Keys or White Blood Cells by The White Stripes…this is that sound. This can also be a incredible tool in the studio if you want something DIFFERENT. You just have to want that sound. Quality build, very fair price considering, and it looks incredible. A tad bulky for a board however. I run it with the JHS Milkman Slap Echo/Boost and a True Spring Reverb pedal and a delay through a Deluxe Reverb Normal Channel. That's it. Again, its like a amp with a certain sound, so you don't need a lot to go with it.

Overall: I installed this item on my guitar and plugged it in. Immediately, there was a bunch of static. I traced it to the jack on the bottom of the unit where the line from the input jack plugged in. I can't move my guitar without the noise. The pickup is unusable, and zZounds refuses to allow me to return the unit. I am very disappointed in both the Acoustifex Go and zZounds.Jim
