It's a keeper. Joe Walsh is at his best in this info dvd. I happen to know Joe in real life , and he really does know his stuff. He helped out my old Guild with just a couple simple techiques shown in this dvd. It does make a difference, and the changes you make in neck adjustments are" subtle", if you learn nothing else just that may save a big mistake. His tuning section and slide mystery busters are tips that make playing slide seem hopeful for the rest of us. There are probably better "show and tells " out there but not as much fun as this one. I bought this when I first started learning how to play. It teaches you all of the basics and some really cool riffs and solos. The video is broken down into sections. The first talks about all of the notes on the neck and basic chords and power chords. The other sections shows you how to play different styles like blues, country, rock, ect. The lessons are excellent and very easy to understand. I learned a lot of cool riffs watching this video and it also taught me some cool solos. I bought this DVD last year-and it taught me a lot. In only minutes, I was playing three or four chords and making simple songs from them. The lessons do tend to jump around somewhat, but if you take your time and learn the lessons in order, you will be playing in no time. I especially liked the tour of the Fender plant in Corona,Ca. Keith Wyatt also shows how to take care of your guitar and change the strings properly.Another interesting part is where he demonstrates distortion and a few pedal effects. Overall, I think this is a great DVD to start guitar with. There are a lot of different pages and chapters to explore at your own pace, without a teacher breathing down your neck. The very first thing you hear when you press play is "welcome to volume 2". The description says nothing about this being volume 2, so I have bought the second half of a lesson which is much less appealing since I have not seen the first half. I bought this DVD as a gift for a friend just starting to play guitar. Kieth Wyatt is a great guitar teacher, already have several other books and media, so I knew this DVD would be a good bet for anyone beginning. I watched most of the DVD before I gave her the gift and was impressed by what I saw. Just wish this DVD was around when I started playing guitar,(1969)it would have increased my guitar learning process by at least 2 years, no kidding! Kieth Wyatt has a real gift for being both an accomplished guitar player himself, as well as an encouraging guitar teacher. I gave it a 9, becuase nothing's perfect, but it's really, REALLY good. GREAT VIDEO If you're a guitar-playing Police fan…no brainer But importantly: If you learn the chords and stuff in this video, you WILL have new stuff to exapnd your sound as a guitarist. Andy doesn't play the usaual blues/pentatonic stuff. He avoids major and minor thirds, and that alone goes a LONG way toward not sounding like 632,000,000,000 other guitarists. Be ready to stretch your fingers big time. If you haven't felt any pain from playing in a long time, you might from this! It's really great! It's really, REALLY good.
This instructional dvd by Andy Summers is very insightful into his style of playing. It is easy to follow along. He demonstrates everything he talks about so you get to hear as well as see what he is doing. My only negative comment would be that he didn't spend enough time going over his material with The Police. He does show how to play a few songs from the Police with excellent demo's to go along with it. I would not by it if your only interested in learning police songs. But if you want to improve your playing and learn a ton of new chords this is a sweet dvd.joeguitarmusic

This DVD is ok. But only ok. It has decent quality, but I got bored quickly with it. There are some good tips that are presented in it, but once you learn these tips (and I mean it's general stuff like "Use a metronome at half speed to get the feel of a snare drum beat on 2 and 4 of a 4/4 beat" kind of tips) I found this DVD rather useless. If you can't read or understand written music, you're going to have trouble with this learning video. The instructor is constantly refering to (half-steps, and drop-tuning) in different keys you're expected to already know. The camera is at such a bad angle, that it's almost impossible to see what string he's plucking and what fret he's holding down. Often, there are extreme close-ups of the neck of the guitar which again…leaves you guessing what fret he's on. It's extreamly frustrating at best. Also this video claims to teach a number of licks and tricks from Led-Zep to AC/DC, Metallica, ect, all of which sounded close, but not quite right. This video claims to be for beginners to advanced, but unless you're able to read and understand music, you're going to have a lot of trouble. I highly recommend this Nancy Wilson acoustic guitar video lesson! In this DVD, Nancy Wilson has a causal approach to showing her style of playing, like a conversation. Theres a wealth of information and exploring to be had from this DVD for any guitar player and would have to watched many times to glean the most from it. Having been a big Heart fan since the Dreamboat Annie days, listening to and learning from Nancy Wilsons style of playing was an easy purchase.
