(Guitar there were placed on is a Tom Murphy Painted and Aged Gibson Custom Shop 1959 Les Paul Standard w/ Brazilian Fretboard) Back in the day, Ernie Ball strings weren't packaged well; they weren't even sealed. If you haven't tried them since their packaging was reinvented, they're definitely worth a look now. Tried D'Addario pure nickel strings, found the wound three to be too low output. I swear the core wire looked like it belonged in acoustic strings. Maybe I got a factory defect, who knows. Gibson strings sound great initially but the 'G' starts to sound dead after a week and the wound strings sound dead and filthy in three weeks. These on the other hand sound marvelous. They sound great out of the package, stay balanced, and sound good for longer than I thought possible.MidnightRiderInTX
I have recently come back to playing the guitar, Sax is my primary instrument but I have had my Gibson RD Standard since 1978. I have since increased my heard of guitars to 10 electric guitars and 3 bass guitars. I have come to favor the Ernie Ball lights and super lights on almost all my guitars. I play the 9's on all of my Stratocaster copies and the super lights on the 3/4 size guitars. I have been using the Power Slinkys (11s) for a few years now. I had switched from another brand because the Slinkys made my Strat sound more Straty. After watching a few videos on YouTube about string gauge, I thought I would buy the Regular Slinkys (10s) and see what difference that would make. When I got online to buy I saw that Guitar Center had a sale on 12 packs and since there is a pandemic, I thought it prudent to hoard strings. My logic was that while I may run out of TP, I would never run out of strings for my guitars. Long story short, you cannot go wrong with the tone of 10s. I do like them better than the 11s. They are much clearer in the low end and you get more definition. I have to do less EQing when recording and they just seem to pop better in a mix. The only downside is that they are taking me time to get used to, I play very heavy handed and these are much easier to bend. But I can already see that I have less hand fatigue.Richard

I like the strings, but the over advertising on emails is really annoying. I’m not sure who is your marketing manager, but your time would be well spent at NAAM, Local guitar dealers, online advertising, etc. Maybe even getting a contract to put your strings on specialty guitars from the manufacturer, along with specs that only you meet. I had been reading about these strings in forums etc and was intrigued. Decided to try a set or two and see what was up. I bought the 10-52 Signatures. Well, I have been using them for a month and a half and all I can say is, believe the hype. The feel great, nice on the fingers, and it seems like the difference in quality of the metal is noticeable. I mean, it feels that way. Maybe it's something else. I don't know but they feel good, hold tune very well and settle in easy right after they're strung up. In six weeks of home playing they have not diminished in tone or tuning stability at all. Better than expected. Solid tone. Easy to play. Just right. Not too bright, just clean and tight, as a well made set should sound. Lows still great, even at the slightly lighter gauge. Don't get me wrong, they can get plenty bright if you want that. Just that they didn't seem as extra bright as some kinds try to be because they can with all the "super nano ultra special coated infused …but still hand crafted somehow" type stuff. Was never happy with previous sets on my 5 string. With these, I was able to set up with slightly lower action. This alone is worth it on my instrument. Finally, it's the bass it should've always been. Waited way too long to find these. I hope they keep making them. Probably going to order a few extra sets and try to keep a few on hand. As others point out, I'm not sure there's another set with these gauges for 5 strings. To me these are just right in a lot of ways.Person
Overall: Don't pay any attention to the low price these are great strings. Have used Fender 7250's on all kinds of bass guitars they always sound great and feel good. Been using the 8250-5M set for awhile. Wanted to try a lighter gauge. I get more guitar tones out of these. I was concerned I might overpower them since I'd used medium gauge for a couple of years. These are literally perfect on my Modern Player Jazz Bass V and 2 1993 Jazz Plus Vs. I bought the Modern Player new from Musiciansfriend. I think this light set is the set that it had on it. I use a pick, single and double thumb as well as two finger picking techniques. The E and B strings give a nice low end. I do a lot of country style string bending and did some research to see what the pros were using, But I recall Tommy Emmanuel’s answer to an audience member who asked what gauge strings he uses, to which Tommy replied, “it’s should not matter to you what I use, but rather what you personally feel comfortable with†. I kept this in mind when doing my research. I had been using 10’s but found that bending the B and G string was a little challenging. Hey, we don’t all have SRV fingers that can bend aircraft cable. For my first Stringjoy order I tried to assemble a custom set (a cool feature that Stringjoy offers) and Scott contacted me with a suggestion. That personal attention was something I had not encountered until then. After some experimentation, I am now using the 9-48 set and it has changed my playing in a big way. Before these strings I was using the stock strings that came with my Les Paul…( And of course the first string broke as always). Then I ordered some Regular Slinkys, but the first string broke again. So then I ordered some Power Slinkeys…and Im still using the first two pairs on my Les Paul and my Yamaha Acoustic! I am really impressed with the quality of these strings and I would recommend them every time. I have been a Stringjoy customer now for 4-5 years(I think?) and they are the best strings I’ve ever used on my electric guitars! Love the feel of them and the tone. You guys have an amazing thing going. I would love to try them on my resonator guitar(it’s a square-neck). Beard Guitars makes the strings I currently use on it. They’re a little peculiar as far as the gauge goes though. .18-.20-.29W-.36-.45-.56 but I love the tone of that gauge and like Ariel Posen, I like a fight from my strings. I almost ordered a custom set to try when I was ordering my previous sets of electric strings but didn’t see a .29W in bronze. Anyways, I’m very thankful I discovered you guys! I turned to Stringjoy because I wanted a 9-72 8-string set, for which there aren't many options ot there, unless you go for a custom set. I was tempted by the stellar reviews, so I decided to give these a go. Firstly, these are the clearest sounding strings I've ever tried. They're not excessively bright, but their articulation is amazing, which really helps that low F# string ring true. They are almost clear to a fault, because they emphasise every little bit of fret buzz and string rattle, so you have to watch your technique. Secondly, these are the longest lasting uncoated strings I've ever used. After a month of use, they have shown minimal aging. I don't play my 8-string every day, but still, this is impressive. Also, they don't rust, flake or turn black. They just gradually become duller, while still remaining playable. One bit of criticism I have is the tuning stability. These strings seem to need a certain amount of tension to stay in tune. They were fine on my 27" scale 8-string, but when I tried the equivalent set on my 25.5" scale 7-string, bending made them go out of tune very easily. I need to try the 10-60 set and see if it's any better. Overall, I'm very happy with this set for my 8-string, and I have already purchased more. Oh, and one more thing! Normally, whenever I use gauge 72 or higher, I have to partially unwrap the winding to fit the string into its tuning peg. With this set, the lowest string was somehow able to go in as it is. I like the strings, but the over advertising on emails is really annoying. I’m not sure who is your marketing manager, but your time would be well spent at NAAM, Local guitar dealers, online advertising, etc. Maybe even getting a contract to put your strings on specialty guitars from the manufacturer, along with specs that only you meet. I had been reading about these strings in forums etc and was intrigued. Decided to try a set or two and see what was up. I bought the 10-52 Signatures. Well, I have been using them for a month and a half and all I can say is, believe the hype. The feel great, nice on the fingers, and it seems like the difference in quality of the metal is noticeable. I mean, it feels that way. Maybe it's something else. I don't know but they feel good, hold tune very well and settle in easy right after they're strung up. In six weeks of home playing they have not diminished in tone or tuning stability at all. These strings sound different, in a good way. They are warm sounding with no hint of piercing harmonics and they stay in tune for days. Normally I have to tune every day on the strat but not these. They feel super comfortable on the fingers. I've tried several brands and these will be my choice from now on. Next I'll have to try the acoustics. These strings sound about as good as any pure nickel set can, and at a great price for the quality you receive. Most importantly to me, they feel great. The wound strings are not too stiff even though they are larger than a regular 10 gauge set. I've always preferred a wound g string and these manage to have that in a comfortable sized set for me. I mean, overall, you probably already know what strings you like and don't like if you play at all, but I will say that these strings initially do have a brighter tone than many others. The one knock I have on these is, if you are a chugger, the strings will almost definitely unwind from the base after a while. That said, they definitely hold a nice one until they break. I have yet to have one take on that muted or tinny tonality, so that is a good thing. Overall, these are pretty versatile, but the more aggressive you are as a guitarist on the strings, the more likely you are to have to replace these more frequently than some of the other brands out there.Peter
These strings are perfect, sound great on my guitar and make very little noise when sliding from fret to fret. They are also low wear and tear on the fingers and would be ideal strings for new players as they work up your finger calluses. Sustain seems fine and they are now my favorite strings for electric guitar (do they make a version for acoustics?) I like playing guitars, but my practice time is always cut short by pain in my fingers – when I first played flats on my bass, it transformed my practices – I can play for an hour plus without discomfort. These replaced the set of 10's that came on my 25.5 inch scale Hanson Firenze; Jazzmaster style offset with classic-wind Firebird-like blade pickups and a Bigsby. No setup changes were required when I dropped back to this lighter 9.5 set. I can't tell the difference in tone but my 64-year-old fingers aren't feeling nearly as much stress when I play. I liked the sound of the 10's compared to the 9's I was accustomed to but my fingers never quite adapted. These in-betweeners feel great and sound good too.Dave
I'm very surprised these strings aren't far more popular. I think it's because most guitarists don't think about in-between gauges. You get the easy playability of 9 gauge and the tuning stability of 10 gauge. They're not so stiff that ye lil finger tip gets all sore doing them bends and not so light that when ya get all into the groove and apply a tad too much pressure them notes start to sound a touch sharp. As for tone, these sound great! Not too bright. Not too dark. Just right. I play a lot in drop D using a Floyd and these are the perfect string. Not too stiff, not too light. Perfect for noodling around the fretboard. I mean, these are 5 bucks a set. Buy a set and check em' out. I'm sure as hell glad I did. I am beyond gigging at 77 due to arthritis and Tennosynovitis, but these strings allow me to enjoy jams without sacrificing tone. Some necks also become "just right" when they are too limber for nines. If you're a "Tens" minimum guy, give them a try and give your fingers a break. Ernie Ball does it right !

I have used Ernie Ball Slinkys since I started playing guitar (time that can be measured in decades, that's all I say). I have been through other top brands, and just don't like them. I have gotten to know EB strings to the point where I can nearly predict when they'll break. That's good in my book. The lively tone and intonation stays for a LONG time. I’ve been playing guitar for over 40 years, performing in several bands on rhythm and lead electric guitar. I currently mostly play a PRS Custom 24, a Fender Strat Elite and a couple ESP’s I’m fond of. I have always used the ‘big name, low cost’ strings until I decided to give Stringjoy a try and see if there is really any difference. I was blown away. The strings are smooth as silk, feel consistent up and down the neck and from low E to high E, and they stay in tune much better than any of my previous strings. I usually use my fingernail to run along the underside of the thinnest E string, to feel for bumps in the string caused by the frets. It’s a quick way to check to see if it’s time to change strings. After 2+ weeks of daily play, I feel very little fret indentation on the Stringjoy strings, much longer than I am used to. I find myself picking up the guitar more often, getting more creative, and figuring out leads I hadn’t pulled off before. first thing you notice upon opening the package is the ball end and wrap of the string. the wrap goes right up to the ball end with NO slack (if you look at commercial grade brands the ball is loose and the wraps look weak) the length is extra long so you have plenty of sting for any scale neck the balance of the light 10’s is different in that the 48 on the low E looks like it would be heavy at first however, when you string ur ax up you notice a FULL rich tone and the stings feel very strong under your fingers. They bend with ease and the 48 does NOT feel heavy at all! although they are not “coated†the very tight wrap of the winding gives a smooth and fast feel similar to a coated sting. a HUGE plus for a guy that likes coated strings and is converting over! after giving them a proper stretch I tried to intentionally knock them out of tune with a heavy hand while playing both rhythm and lead playing….they stayed perfectly in tune put my freshly strung ax in my gig bag and headed out to my gig (hour away)..took it out once arrived, was still in tune…played the gig…stayed in tune… woke up the next morning and grabbed my guitar for my morning strum and some coffee…you guessed it…STILL in tune! Extremely musical and beefy tone from StringJoy! Everyone should really try these, its tricky to describe with words but no doubt, any guitar player would feel and hear the difference IMMEDIATELY! There are a few "good" brands of electric guitar strings, and I have always chosen Ernie Ball as my goto set. They cost less, and last just as long as anything else that I have tried so that right there is enough for me. The new Cobalt, and Paradigm series strings are even better in my opinion, and it is the Paradigm that I use on my personal guitars now but for every guitar that I sell (several every month) it is always Cobalt series strings. I live on the Florida coast so anything made of metal is short lived especially guitar strings but the Cobalts do the trick, and last a couple of months for me.zombie415.2009
These strings need no credability having already been used and endorsed by the likes of Eric Clapton and Steve Vai and many more guitar giants. I only recently tried these cobalts and will probably never go back to the standard nickel strings. The big difference you notice right away is the feel of the strings when pressed and played, almost giving the feel of having a scalloped neck. The strings have a sort of elasticity to them, making for easy bending. Just a great feel. The next difference you'll notice is the higher output they give, while in my case actually making each note more distinct and clear at higher gains. Overall: Use these exclusively on my 7 string. Perfect gauge sizing for down tuning; I love tuning to GDGCFAD. As far as "output" I can't really discern any advantage over other strings, but these of course have that great bouncy Ernie ball sound to them. I feel like they last a tad longer than plain Ernie balls but it could be a placebo effect. The gauge is perfect for what I do, anything else with these is just a plus. I Love Rhythm and blues, jazz and swing. But I also like folk music and great C&W riff lines. To be honest, I have only been using these strings for about three weeks but I like them so much that I plan to use them on most of my instruments. So far, In my opinion, these strings are clean and crisp and they have a very satisfying tone even at higher volumes; and, at the present time, they appear to be pretty flex-able and easy on the fingers. I have a used 2005 hollowbody Cort Yorktown. I tried D'Addario ECG23 (10-48 "chromes" flatwounds). They were nice, but for this guitar, they were too bright, at least on the treble strings. I put on these DR flatwounds (11-48) and immediately heard the difference. The tone was mellower, including (especially!) on the treble strings. Don't ask me why. After all, the high E is just .001 inch heavier, but the consistent softened jazz sound was there, from low end to high end. Guitars differ in variables (woods, pickups, etc), so all I can say is that for my guitar (laminate maple back and sides, laminate spruce top and original humbuckers), DR 11-48 flatwounds did the trick. Will stick with these from now on. (By the way, both brands have a wound 3rd string, but DR's is 22 instead of 20. Go figure!) At one point, I was even thinking of replacing the neck pickup. As described on the package, these are primarily jazz guitar strings. I play a Benedetto Manhattan Custom 7 that was originally strung with round-wound 12-72 strings. After going through a few sets, I was looking for a slightly lighter feel and mellower sound. The typical 7-string sets with unwound third strings and lowest strings in the 50s felt like rubber bands and did not produce the sound I wanted. D'Addario chrome flat wound strings have the sound I want while allowing a relatively low action without buzzing. The strings start out mellow and hold their tone throughout most of their life. They will eventually sound dull (not necessarily a bad thing – listen to Tal Farlow). When intonation begins to suffer, it's time to replace them. I do not recall breaking a string. The majority of my playing is finger-style in the George Van Eps tradition and these strings are great for that application as well as comping and single-string work. They sound great purely acoustically as well as amplified. If bending notes is a major feature of your style, you probably will not be happy with these strings. If you are fortunate enough to own a seven-string jazz guitar and want a classic jazz sound, these strings will suit your instrument and style of playing quite well. They are practically the only game in town unless you prefer piecing together sets from individual strings.Mike H
These strings have proven to be the best on the market. Flatwounds are the most under-rated string ever, and D'addario chromes are the best of the best. They are very warm, very mellow, so if you play extreme metal like I do, you will have to tweak your pre-eq tone a bit to get the same "bright" sound from roundwound strings, but this is easily achieved with a treble booster or a pre eq with some of the bass turned down a little and some mids and highs turnd up a little. Once you've done that, these strings are RAZOR SHARP and virtually all string chirp is eliminated. They're "tighter" feeling than rounds so they stay put when you're tremolo picking. If you want to do artificial harmonics, they work well on these strings, but you have to be precise. Also, pick slides work well, but they're a bit "softer" sounding than on rounds… The few adjustments you have to make in your tone to compensate is a very small price to pay for a string that lasts forever, cleans up your sound, and eliminates string chirp… I recommend these to every guitar player I know.Manos
I bought these seven strings for a six string guitar 'cause they were the only ones I could find flat wound and not for a bass. I was concerned that the tone would be flat too, but it's not they sound warm and mellow, perfect for jazz and classic rock and blues. I can finally make the slides in "Blackbird" sound right. I put them on my new semi-hollow body Hagstrom guitar that has this amazing fret board made out of a man made wood composite that is practically friction free. After setting the action to my liking I installed these strings and have the fastest neck you can imagine. I'm so happy with the strings I ordered three more sets.opalguy
