I have a couple of dozen capos from nearly 50 years of playing, but my go-to capos are still Kyser and Dunlop. May take time to match the right capo to your guitar, and it takes some shopping to figure out what works best on a classical (2" width) or 12-string acoustic guitar neck. Check out the YouTube videos to see how easy it is to adjust the tension on Kyser capos.fred156

Reviews:
This capo works great with slim-necked guitars like the JEM, however whenever I use it with my Fender steel-string acoustic, either the first or sixth string are not correctly pressed. This causes a weak open note with no sustain whatsoever and an annoying buzz. To fix it you really have to press hard on it from both ends several times. So whatever the smart or practical concept was, it's clearly gone.Armando Garc_a
Very simple to use, this auto ratcheting capo does exactly what I bought it for. I play a 3/4 size travel guitar, with a slim neck. Every other I've tried, is a bit of a struggle. Not so this one! Also, there is no overhanging lever or sticky out bits to get in the way. Recommended indeed!daveshuttdave
3. G7th – Newport Pressure-Touch Capo

The g7th newport for 6-string guitar is so small and light, you’d hardly know it was there! easily applied and removed using the quick-release lever, while the screw adjusts the tension – even with the capo in position. the newport is also the smallest of the three models. it’s slim, and rounded, so you’ll hardly know it’s there.

Reviews:
Overall: I have been playing guitar almost 60 years and have tried almost every brand and type of capos available. The idea of this capo is ok, but with my older hands, it is sometimes difficult to get the right pressure with one hand, so I have to use both hands to get it right. It is also quite bulky. I compared it to my trusty shubbs and the G7th actually dulled the sound of my guitar. Not happy at all. Not nearly worth the price. Need to stick with Shubb. You don't have to spend a lot of cash for a good capo.
Fatal flaw – if your style is such that you bend the higher strings, they do not return in tune. Bent strings stay bent. Be clear – you cannot bend the unwound strings with this capo. Worse yet, the manufacturer wanted me to return to capo to the UK, at my cost, in order to provide me with a different, less expensive model which he says will work better, as a straight exchange. In other words, spend half the cost of the capo in postage to receive a less expensive capo.Cal
Previous to this purchase, I have been using capos by Kyser and Shubb. Like most products, each of these three capos has things it does well and not so good. The Kyser is the simplest to use. It clamps easily but not so tight that it pulls all the strings sharp and it has a soft pad that seems to wrap over the strings to keep them in place. The down side to the Kyser is it's big and kind of gets in the way, if playing cords close to the capo. For example, if you play Hotel California and capo on the 7th fret, the capo can get in the way when you go to the F7 chord. The Shubb is compact and unobtrusive, but it takes some adjustment to get it tight enough, but not too tight and the rubber pad is pretty hard, so you have to get the tension perfect to avoid lateral sting movement. The nice thing about the Shubb is it has a set screw to adjust tension, so once you get it set, it's pretty consistent IF you get the capo in the same location between the frets and on the same place on the neck. The G7th is very light and compact and looks sleek. The problem that made me downgrade it to 4 stars, is it takes some practice and sometimes multiple attempts to get the capo attached with the perfect amount of tension. This is done by squeezing the G7th on the neck. If you squeeze toohard, you'll push the strings down between the frets and make the guitar sharp. If you don't squeeze hard enough then you can get string buzz. The REAL test of a capo, IMO is when you put it on an electric and they play solos where you bend strings. If the capo isn't tight enough the string will be pushed laterally across the neck and it won't return to the original position, leaving THAT string sharp. To summarize, NONE of the capos I mentioned are perfect. Overall, I'd have to say the Kyser works best, for me. I think it has the softest pad material that clamps on the strings, so it does a good job of keeping the strings in place, while soloing. Just to clarify, I usually put the capo very close to the back side of the fret, rather than in the center between frets, as I find that does the best job of NOT pushing the string down between the frets. On an acoustic where you are only looking to strum open chords in a different key, they all do a good job. Price-wise the G7th is by far the most expensive, so factor that in. To get 5 stars, I think the G7th needs a softer pad to wrap over the strings and keep them in place better laterally. That would allow less tension to securely clamp the strings in place. I think I'd still recommend the Kyser. It performs well, iscost-effective and the only problem is that it's the biggest of the three I mentioned and gets in the way a little.rockingcpa

Reviews:
When using a capo it is necessary that it provide enough tension to keep the strings, especially the bass strings, from buzzing. Any more tension than the minimum necessary to accomplish that does tend to de-tune the guitar by raising its pitch. The Shubb design is the only capo that I have ever used or seen that can be precision adjusted to apply just enough tension to effect the key change without unnecessary de-tuning. All other designs use springs to apply the tension so must be designed to always apply enough tension where the neck is thinnest so must apply more than the minimum necessary. The Shubb has no springs and its tension is fully adjustable. It is also compact and stays out of the players way when being used.Stan

Adjustable tension is very important for a nylon-string capo unless you want to spend all your time retuning the guitar. I already own the older version with the pin and it's been my capo of choice. This newer version with the wheel is even better, easier to adjust, and for some reason cheaper. It's almost unbreakable (like any capo made of metal) so it's worth the extra money as long as you don't lose it.
5. Shubb C2n Standard Capo

Very good but one does need to read the instructions. The individual "knuckles" need to be repositioned on each fret as the neck is tapered. Care needs to be taken when turning the "knuckles" down to ensure that they come straight down onto the string. If the "knuckle" is off-set, this can cause a shift in pitch, in the same way that string bending does. Not as quick to apply as a standard capo, but it does provide more opportunities for altered tunings.Reviewed by Andertons Music Co.

I've owned several different capo styles over the years, but this one is probably my favorite so far. It's strong and high quality, and doesn't allow your strings to buzz underneath its clamp. It's super affordable as well, so you don't have to break to add this to your collection. I don't have a bad thing to say about it. Buy it now!!CoopDbomb
Easy to use, excellent quality control, with the strings pad always bouncing back after even a 24-hour period when you forget to remove it when you put the guitar up. I have 8 guitars, acoustic & electric models and it works perfectly on all, except my 12-string. Kyser makes a 12-string version that is made for a 12er with a little more spring strength. They make a couple of special application capos, the "Short Cut" and the "Drop D" capos. All 3 have the same basic engineered style. (from Kyser's web site): The Short-Cut can easily create a DADGAD-like sound, without re-tuning. Just place the Kyser Short-Cut on the 2nd fret from the top to cover the 5th, 4th, and 3rd strings. To play in a different key, you can use a 2nd capo closer to the headstock than the Kyser Short-Cut. For example, place a capo covering all 6 strings on the 3rd fret and the Kyser Short-Cut on the 5th fret to play in the key of G. (from Kyser's web site): Place the Drop-D on the 2nd fret, and play a triangular-shaped D chord. Normally, you'd only play the high 4 strings, but now you can play all 6. With the Kyser Drop-D in the second fret, you're hearing an E chord – and the low string is an E, too. It sounds like Drop-D tuning! (from Kyser's web site): Now, play a normal G chord. It'll sound just like it always did. If you retune, you change the fingering. With the Drop-D, the fingering stays the same, except if you want to play on the low E string. Play an E minor chord. Because the low string is open, you'll need to fret the low E string on the same fret as the capo, either below or above it. Kyser gives a generous 30 days for a FULL REFUND, if you don't like it for ANY reason, or none.Bob

This capo will NOT work on a Paul Beard square neck dobro, so don't even try. Buy a (Charlie's Slide Pro Capo) if you want to use it on a square neck. It's the best. The Shubb is fine for most other square necks. But it's somewhat of a pain to put on and take off. The steel model is fine. You don't need to spend the extra on the C6b. (b) stands for brass. This is a great capo! The salesman suggested trying this over the one that I was going to buy, and it was a great decision. The switch takes a little longer, but the pressure is very even, and notes do not get bent. You can also adjust the pressure depending on the placement on the neck. Great buy!Phil

The kyser drop-d quick-change is a tool for creative exploring. with it, you can get new, richer sounds from your guitar without having to relearn how to play the chords you already know.place the drop-d on the 2nd fret, and play a triangular-shaped d chord. normally, you'd only play the high 4 strings, but now you can play all 6. because the kyser drop-d is in the second fret, you're hearing an e chord – and the low string is an e, too. it sounds like drop-d tuning! now play a normal g chord. it'll sound just like it always did. if you retune, you change the fingering. with the drop-d, the fingering stays the same, except if you want to play on the low e string. play an e minor chord. because the low string is open, you'll need to fret the low e string on the same fret as the capo, either below or above it.the kyser drop-d can be used on any fret, in standard or inverted position.
Reviews:
I play solo fingerstyle guitar and this capo makes it so easy to play the chords and melody at the same time. The key of D is very friendly to playing the melody of a lot of songs over the chords but you need that low root note. You can use drop D tuning but that takes away your normal G chord and kind of messes things up with scales and chords. This capo make it so easy plus it's quick to take off and go back to standard tuning. I love it and I've been using it for years.Josh
I wish I would have gotten one of these sooner. Drop d without the rethinking of the fret board. Also works great with the shortcut capo for "no tuner turning" tunings all up the neck. My acoustic guitar has become a new beast!! If you want to experience new sonic vistas, try this capo out. You are only limited by your imagination.
